12 Best Things To Do In Treasure Island FL You Shouldn’t Miss

Go to treasure island beach.

From my experience, you can’t visit Treasure Island and not visit the beach! It’s one of the best things to do in Treasure Island. Going to the beach is the whole reason to visit a Florida beach town after all.

If you’re looking for a quiet spot, you can definitely find it at Treasure Island Beach. With three beachy “neighborhoods”, you can find the vibe that suits you best.

In the middle, you have the widest section, known as Treasure Island Municipal Beach. Here you will find the most hotels, shops, and restaurants. You’ll also have the .85-mile-long Treasure Island Beach Trail, which runs parallel to the water.

If you walk north or south, the beach will narrow a bit, and it will become more residential. To the north lies Sunrise Beach, and to the south is Sunset Beach, where a boardwalk covers the southern tip of the island.

At any of these sections of the beach, you can expect the iconic beauty and warmth of Gulf beaches !

Join the Sunday Sunset Drum Circle

If you happen to visit Sunset Beach on a Sunday evening, you can catch the weekly sunset drum circle! Experiencing this Sunday ritual is definitely one of the more unique things to do in Treasure Island.

Drummers start playing around 4 pm until the sun goes down. All are encouraged to drum along if you have anything to play. If not, feel free to dance! If you don’t want to participate, it’s totally okay to bring a beach chair and be an audience member.

The drum circle takes place on Sunset Beach, behind Sloppy Joe’s.

A crowd of people stand while others play on the beach during the sunset drum circle, one of the best things to do in Treasure Island.

Visit the Florida Shell Shop

If you don’t feel like shelling , or your searching hasn’t yielded any treasures, head to the Florida Shell Shop. Visiting this unique souvenir shop is one of the best things to do in Treasure Island, FL for those who like shells, or just want to visit a fun store!

The Florida Shell Shop has been around since 1955. It is a family-owned and operated business, offering more kinds of shells than you could possibly imagine. They have everything from local shells to coral to sea glass.

The Florida Shell Shop prides itself in providing a feeling of “Old Florida”. When you step into the shop, you might feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

At least six different types of shells sit in wooden boxes, separated by type, available for purchase like those in the Florida Shell Shop, one of the best places to visit in Treasure Island, FL.

Go on a Dolphin Cruise

If you’re looking for fun things to do in Treasure Island, try going on a dolphin cruise! This adventurous outing will get you out on the water, and you’ll be able to see some of the ocean’s cutest creatures.

Adventures Cruises offers a combined dolphin-watching and shelling cruise. Leaving from Sea Dog Restaurant and Brew Pub in Treasure Island, they’ll take you out on the water for two hours.

You’ll be able to see dolphins in their natural habitat! Adventures Cruises prides themselves on being the first “Dolphin SMART” certified charter boat company in West Central Florida. You can rest assured that the crew has been trained in how to observe dolphins respectfully. Plus, you’ll probably learn a thing or two about this special specie!

Adventures Cruises will also take you to the aptly-named Shell Island, where you can find some treasures to take home.

Visit Johns Pass

One of the best things to do near Treasure Island lies just to the north, in Madeira Beach . Just about a mile and a half from Treasure Island sits Johns Pass. This popular business hub across the water is full of restaurants and shops, with a bit of a pirate theme.

The water between Madeira Beach and Treasure Island was named John’s Pass after a pirate named John Levique, who was said to be the first to pass through the narrow channel caused by a hurricane in 1848.

Wander the wooden boardwalk, stop in a bar for some grog, or keep an eye on the water for dolphins.

If you’re making a day of it, many tours leave from Johns Pass…including a pirate ship cruise!

Eat at Caddy’s Waterfront

Although there are now multiple locations, the original Caddy’s Waterfront location can be found on Treasure Island’s Sunset Beach! Ordering from Caddy’s is one of the best things to do in Treasure Island for those who want a good meal, but don’t want to leave the beach.

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Caddy’s serves up some great seafood, like grouper nuggets and Mahi tacos. Of course, they also have plenty of frozen adult beverages, like a “Rocky Margarita” and strawberry daiquiris.

You may come to Caddy’s for the food and drinks, but you’ll stay for the atmosphere. You can sit inside, outside, or even rent beach chairs so you won’t have far to go when you need a refill! Catch live music in the evenings and as you watch the sunset.

See the Sanding Ovations

One of the absolute best things to do in Treasure Island, FL is to catch the Sanding Ovations! This sand-sculpting competition brings sand castles to a whole new level.

If you visit Treasure Island in November, definitely head to the beach to see these awesome works of art. Treasure Island is officially Florida’s Sand Sculpture Capital, and sand sculptures come from all over the world to compete.

Sanding Ovations is one of the best Treasure Island attractions for the whole family. In addition to the impressive sculptures, there is kite-flying, fireworks, a food court, and an arts and crafts marketplace.

Play at Treasure Bay Golf & Tennis

If you are a golf player, one of the best things to do in Treasure Island is to head to the green! This nine-hole, par-three course is a great place to practice and spend the day outdoors.

Open seven days a week, Treasure Bay Golf & Tennis is a public facility, so you don’t have to be part of a club to play! Prices vary from winter to summer, but you can play a round for under $20 (plus a discount if you’re a resident).

Treasure Bay Golf & Tennis is located on the water, so you can take in some great views of Boca Ciega Bay while you play.

This family-owned business is a true Treasure Island, FL establishment. Don’t be surprised if you see a line out the door! Known for their creamy soft serve, Shake Shop serves up shakes, floats, and sundaes. Folks particularly love the peanut butter shakes and the banana split in a cup!

The best part is that Shake Shop is right near the beach, so you can take your ice cream or milkshake with you and enjoy it by the water.

Sail Aboard a Schooner

One of the most romantic things to do in Treasure Island for couples is to go for a sail at sunset! Climb aboard the schooner, Suncoast Horizon, and take in the gorgeous colors of a west coast Florida sunset.

Suncoast Horizon departs from (and returns to) The Club: Treasure Island. You’ll sail for two hours, beginning an hour before sunset, so you can get that golden-hour glow as well. This Treasure Island activity is great for those looking to avoid crowds, as the tour only takes a maximum of 28 people.

There is complimentary water and soda, but you are welcome to bring your own drinks on board! Suncoast Horizon will provide a cooler, and Mother Nature will provide the romance.

Treasure Island, FL is indeed an island, connected with bridges to the north and south. However a third allows you to get your steps in by walking the Treasure Island Causeway! It’s one of the best things to do in Treasure Island for those looking for a new exercise route.

Whether you are walking, running, or biking, the Treasure Island Causeway offers lovely views of Boca Ciega Bay and the beautiful homes along the water. Stop at Sunset Park on the St. Pete side before turning back around toward Treasure Island.

At about one-fifth of a mile one way, walking the Treasure Island Causeway won’t take very long. You may have to wait a minute though when the drawbridge is up to let boats pass through!

Visit Clearwater Beach

If you are running out of things to do in Treasure Island, you can always take a trip further north! And by that, we mean just a 45-minute drive away to Clearwater Beach .

Similar to its southern neighbors, Clearwater Beach is a laidback seaside community. There you can visit one of the best white sand beaches in Florida , and wander down the popular Pier 60. You can also visit the aquarium that inspired the 2011 film  Dolphin Tale !

If you don’t want to drive to Clearwater Beach, try taking the Suncoast Beach Trolley, which makes stops in both Treasure Island and Clearwater Beach.

A fishing pier extends into emerald waters at Clearwater Beach, one of the best places to visit near Treasure Island.

Treasure Island Day Trip

Excellent organisation of our day trip - from the pick up from our resort to the cruise to the day trip at Treasure island. We had a fantastic guide - Vili - he really looked after us at the island. Showing us around, making sure we were looked after at lunch and getting back! We could be part of activities or do our own thing - awesome!! Special thank you Vili!!

Used SSC for ferry transportation to another island. Mechanical problems delayed the boat's departure 30 minutes. Paid for an upgrade to the "Captain's Lounge" but not sure it was worth the extra money. The air conditioning barely worked and the only other "perk" was a few free beers and a bag of nuts. Next time will consider using a helicopter service for an island transfer. For those thinking about taking the Seaspray Day Adventure, I have posted a photo of the boat ("Seaspray") used for the tour.

treasure island day trip

This was so much fun! The snorkeling around the island is truly spectacular - we saw barracuda, rays, eels, lots of fish. South Sea cruises has a ton of options (and it was sort of confusing) - we stayed on the South Sea island for a few hours and then cruised around on the boat to see all the other islands, which were incredible. It was well worth it, although we wished we could have stayed on the island longer. They had a great lunch, drinks, a pool, bathroom facilities, lounge chairs and tons of activities.

wonderful experience in one on the few resort-free islands in Fiji, completely unspoiled from tourism. Great for corals snorkeling, exploring the site of the Hollywood movie with Tom Hanks and a great true experience of a Fiji sailing cruise. It worths the whole trip!!!! Fantastic as a friends entertainment, as family or also as a romantic couple.

treasure island day trip

Great day out and good value. Vessel was clean comfortable and well maintained. Great Crew. Mana island was beautiful with great smirking, swimming, BBQ lunch. Spectacular views from the boat with large windows. Highly reccomended!

treasure island day trip

Where do i start? we were advised the "Seaspray" was the cruise to take for snorkelling and a lovely bbq lunch on a beach plus visiting castaway island. We boarded the boat which was quite old and rickety, we were not shown any lifejackets or any emergency procedures. Off we went when we arrived at castaway island for snorkelling there was no where to do safe snorkelling we tried but there was too strong a current and large rocks everywhere even on the shore edge which made it impossible to snorkel. The runabout that took us onto the island was overloaded and got stuck on rocks they couldnt get the motor started either, we finally got going and boarded the cruise boat for our lunch which was not on the beach at all. The food was disgusting, the meat and chicken was half raw and the salad and fruit was limp and old. By this time a very bad wind had come up with large seas. We were told it was too dangerous to stay there however we couldnt leave as the anchor rope had become entangled in the propellor and they were worried the boat would tip over, all the while still no lifejackets. There were young children and elderly on board. Someone went in the water with a large knife and cut the rope free. They took us to Mana Island which took a hour and half in shocking conditions with myself and others violently sick. We were not helped off the boat onto the island and people were almost falling into the sea as it was extremely rough to disembark onto a rocking pontoon. We spent an hour and half in driving rain and wind waiting for a catamaran to arrive and take us back to Denaurau Marina which was another hellish trip. All up we spent $418 on this trip for two and all we got was 40 mins on castaway island an inedible lunch a shocking trip back to Mana Island and dumped there and all the while no lifejackets in treacherous conditions of which one young child almost hurtled off the boat. When i contacted the manager of south sea cruises he wasnt interested and was quite indignant that i had complained. Dont ever take a trip with these people they dont care about your safety just getting your money.

Treasure Island Park Laguna Beach

Treasure Island Park Laguna Beach is one of the most beautiful parks in Southern California. The park sits directly in front of the 30-acre five-star Montage Resort.

A paved pathway runs along the cliff’s top, offering fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean and the beach below. Visiting Treasure Island Park is like taking a walk through a picture postcard.

Treasure Island Park is directly in front of the Montage Resort. This five-star hotel offers guests 262 ocean-view rooms, each with a private balcony. Fifty-one suites ranging up to 2,800 square feet and 37 beach bungalow-style rooms.

Treasure Island Park Laguna Beach

If money is no object, 28 residential units called the Laguna Beach Colony consist of 14 craftsman-style condominiums and 14 custom homes.

For the rest of us, there is Treasure Island Park, which is truly a fantastic place. Along the cliff walk are numerous wooden benches where you can sit back and enjoy the view, along with guests paying sky-high room rates. Several walkways lead down to Treasure Island Beach if you feel more adventurous.

Treasure Island Park Laguna Beach

Treasure Island Park is a place the locals would like to keep hidden, but the park is open to the public and offers easy beach access for everyone.

With its breathtaking views, Treasure Island Park Laguna Beach is famous with artists who can find stunning vistas at every turn of the trail—several artworks throughout, including a massive mural located below the swimming pool at the Montage Resort.

The park has a beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear water accessible by steps and ramps. There are several tide-pool areas on the rocks, but please do not take any living or non-living items from the tide pools. Be cautious of where and what you step on while on the rocks.

Treasure Island Park Laguna Beach

Treasure Island Park History

Treasure Island was initially owned by Hubbard Goff, who built a home in the late 1800s. Treasure Island got its name from the movie Treasure Island, based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure novel, filmed here in 1934.

At one time, there was a small pier at Treasure Island Beach. It was about 100 feet long and had a winch to lower boats into the ocean. The dock was an excellent fishing spot but was private property for Treasure Island trailer park residents.

 Montage Resort Laguna Beach

The pier was removed in 1988, the same year Aliso Pier to the south was removed due to storm damage.

The Montage Resort replaced the trailers and mobile homes of Treasure Island mobile home park after a long battle with Laguna Beach.

If you have out-of-town guests, take them to this park; they will never stop talking about it. Arrive early if possible, especially on weekends. Parking can be tricky to find when the underground lot is full.

Treasure Island Park Beach

Treasure Island Park is a 7-acre oceanfront public park. If you can not afford the $700.00 a night price of admission to the Montage Resort, you can still enjoy the incredible view the hotel guests have, even if it’s just for a few hours.

Directions Treasure Island Park Laguna Beach

Treasure Island Park Laguna Beach is between Victoria Beach and Aliso Creek Beach. Suppose you are coming from the North; turn right at Wesley Drive into the Park. There is an underground parking garage that has about 50 parking spaces. (three-hour max).

Treasure Island Park Laguna Beach

If the parking lot is full, you can cross the Pacific Coast Highway, and there is more parking at Lang Park. Some street parking is also available, but it is all metered and has a three-hour limit.

Although expensive, dining at the Montage and strolling along the park after your meal is another option. Dining options at the Montage include The Studio, a Craftsman-style restaurant at the edge of the Pacific, and The Loft, which serves American cuisine and stunning ocean views.

The small pier that was at treasure island beach, or as the beach was known at that time was either north beach or pier beach to the Treasure Island Mobile Home Park residents. My grandparents were long time residents of the trailer park. I first saw this in the summer of that year as i visited the grandparents every summer. The concrete leading up to the pier and surrounding areas was removed many years later as you see that beach the way it looks today.

Thanks for the comment. Much has changed since the mobile home park was closed.

One of the best experiences I've had in a long time. The island was beautiful, super friendly staff always ready to help. Snorkeling and kayak equipment were complimentary. The food was great, and the infinity pool was something I'd never experienced. Highly recommended!
Best day trip in Fiji! Lots of activities, easy access to bus transfers and wonderful staff – very open and accommodating. If you're in Fiji it is a must do trip!
It was an amazing cruise with a delicious lunch and wine. We got to snorkel with colourful fish. We then spent the afternoon island hopping seeing other places we could stay. The Fijian show was excellent. We had a wonderful day.
This was so much fun. Staff were awesome. Island is great with plenty to do. Lots of room to sit around relaxing. Trip was well priced.
Sabre was an absolute dream experience. The boat is amazing and a real asset for Fiji, the crew were accommodating and fun. There was plenty of seating on the ship. I would recommend it to all. Thank you South Sea Cruise, yet another great trip with your company.
This was an absolutely fantastic trip and a lifetime highlight for us!!! We were greeted on the island with music and singing! The guides were exceptional and we saw sharks and turtles. Highly recommend!
