Special ‘Arctic Blast’ Paint Option Dresses Up Harley’s Street Glide Special

Harley-Davidson has announced a new special limited edition Street Glide Special slathered in a striking blue and white paint scheme that may shoo some cagers out of your way on the freeway.

The MoCo has teamed with long-time custom paint work artisans   Gunslinger Custom Paint in Golden, Colorado, to craft the latest Special, which is not  officially part of the CVO family but does include a very long list of features including LED Daymaker lighting, Boom Box GTS stereo, Prodigy custom wheels and a full-color touchscreen that includes GPS. Riders looking for a bit more touring capability can add a paint-matched rear tour pack for $1,700. The Special is packing a 114-cubic inch Milwaukie-Eight V-Twin for power.

2021 Street Glide – Arctic Blast

According to a press release, the color scheme is called “ Arctic Blast Limited Edition ” and features “metallic deep blue with bright blue strokes over a pearlescent white base.” It appears to have a generous helping of metal flake as well.

“The Arctic Blast paint is executed in strokes of high-contrast color intended to communicate the appearance of motion,” Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Styling and Design said in the press release. “The design looks bold from a distance but offers interesting details that can only be seen up close, including a blue pearl effect over the white base, and a ghosted hexagon pattern on the fairing.”

What’s Special About the Limited-Edition 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special?

Earlier this year, the Electra Glide Revival kicked off Harley-Davidson’s new Icons Collection. However, modern recreations of classic models won’t be the only kinds of limited-edition bikes Harley makes. At this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Harley-Davidson revealed a limited-edition version of the 2021 Street Glide Special. But what makes this version of the bagger ‘special’? And is it worth getting in line for?

[ UPDATE 8/13/2021: Harley-Davidson recently informed us that the original $38,899 MSRP quote the company provided was incorrect. The company has since corrected itself and said that the 2021 Street Glide Special Arctic Blast truly starts at $32,999 and that the $995 RDRS is optional. This article has been updated to reflect this correction.]

What makes this limited-edition 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special different from a regular Street Glide?

Mechanically, the biggest difference between the 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special and the ‘regular’ Street Glide is the different engines. However, that’s not the only thing that makes the Special, well, more special.

Firstly, the Special has larger bags and a low-profile engine guard, Ultimate Motorcycling says. It also has a larger color TFT touchscreen display and an upgraded infotainment system with navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay as well as hand and voice commands. Plus, an LED headlight and spoked wheels with an optional blacked-out design.

So, how does the limited-edition 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special compare to the ‘regular’ model? In terms of equipment, nothing. Even the Reflex Defensive Rider System is optional on the limited-edition. The standard Harley-Davidson Street Glide already has cruise control ABS-equipped Brembo brakes. However, RDRS adds cornering-enhanced ABS, traction control, rear-wheel-slip control, hill-hold assist, and tire-pressure monitoring. In other words, the extra safety features the new Sportster S has as standard.

Instead, the biggest difference between the limited-edition model and the regular bike is the former’s paint job. The paint scheme is called ‘Arctic Blast,’ and it’s applied by hand at Gunslinger Custom Paint in Golden, Colorado. Yes, even that front honeycomb pattern. This explains the bike’s official name: ‘2021 Harley-Davidson Arctic Blast Limited Edition Street Glide Special.’

How much does the limited-edition 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special cost?

The 2021 Harley-Davidson Arctic Blast Street Glide Special starts at $32,999. In comparison, the ‘regular’ Special starts at $27,099; the non-Special bike starts at $21,999. Oh, and if you want the matching Arctic Blast-painted luggage carrier, it’s an extra $1,699.95.

Those who want one of these limited-edition baggers will have to get in line fast. Harley’s only making 500 examples for the whole world, and orders are already open.

Is the special-edition bagger worth buying?

Whether or not you add the $995 RDRS, the 2021 Harley-Davidson Arctic Blast Street Glide Special costs roughly $6000 more than the ‘regular’ Special. For some, that might seem like a lot of cash for a paint job.

However, it’s worth remembering that the limited-edition 2021 Indian Chieftain Elite cost about $7000 more than the standard Chieftain. And most of that premium, understandably, came from the hand-applied paint. Though to be fair, the Chieftain Elite also threw in some extra audio and infotainment features.

So, is the limited-edition Special worth waiting in line for? According to NADA Guides , “high-end…and exceptional custom paint jobs” can cost anywhere from $15,000-$30,000. Given that Gunslinger has a decades-long history with Harley-Davidson, the $6000 premium is arguably justified. It just depends on whether or not you like the look or not. And if you don’t, the Special has cheaper colors available.

2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special Arctic Blast Limited Edition First Look

How cool is this? Editor Don Williams just got through testing the 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special in Billiard Red, and now we get a look at a new Arctic Blast Limited Edition version. Yes, it really is a Limited Edition model, as only 500 examples will be produced. The big reason for the limited production is that the Arctic Blast paint job is done by hand. Gunslinger Custom Paint in Golden, Colorado, is behind the paint, and the company also does work on the coveted Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) models.

The paint isn’t the only difference between the Arctic Blast Limited Edition and the “standard” Street Glide Special. The standard model’s slammed bags are replaced by stretched saddlebags. If you plan on doing some longer-distance touring, Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories will sell you a paint-matched Chopped Tour-Pak top case for $1700. The Arctic Blast also gets a number on the tank, somewhere between 1 and 500.

The “metallic deep blue with bright blue strokes over a pearlescent white base,” as Harley-Davidson describes it, is paired with the Black Finish for a striking look.

“The Arctic Blast paint is executed in strokes of high-contrast color intended to communicate the appearance of motion,” explains Harley-Davidson Vice President of Styling and Design Brad Richards. “The design looks bold from a distance but offers interesting details that can only be seen up close, including a blue pearl effect over the white base, and a ghosted hexagon pattern on the fairing.”

On the heels of the Electra Glide Revival (that we also recently tested) , the Arctic Blast Limited Edition reveals that Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO Harley-Davidson, is serious about building high-dollar models for the cognoscenti who can afford it. “With the Arctic Blast Limited Edition paint offering for the Street Glide Special,” Zeitz asserts, “at Harley-Davidson we continue to build on our reputation and lead by example, as the best in exclusive custom motorcycles and design.”

The MSRP is $32,899, and at that price the Harley-Davidson Reflex Defensive Rider Systems electronics package is a $995 option. (Editor’s Note: Due to inaccurate information provided by Harley-Davidson, the earlier version of this story quoted a different price.)

Harley-davidson unveil arctic blast limited edition street glide special.

Harley-Davidson is producing a limited run of 2021 Street Glide Specials featuring the handcrafted Arctic Blast Limited Edition paint set. The motorcycle was revealed today at the 81st Sturgis Motorcycle Rally . Availability will be limited to 500 examples worldwide, each serialized on the fuel tank.  

The Arctic Blast Limited Edition paint will be offered in a single colorway – metallic deep blue with bright blue strokes over a pearlescent white base. Each of the Street Glide Specials receiving the new custom scheme is hand-painted by the artisans at Gunslinger Custom Paint in Golden, Colorado. Gunslinger is home to a renowned group of painters, designers and, artists with decades of experience supplying custom-painted components for Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations team and limited-edition motorcycles.

At the 81st Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Harley-Davidson unveiled the limited edition Street Glide Arctic Blast. The new Harley-Davidson Arctic Blast boasts of taking the custom paint to a new level by introducing the limited-run 2021 Street Glide Special motorcycle. Artisans will apply the handcrafted Arctic Blast paint set at Gunslinger Custom Paint in Golden, Colorado. The brand also announced that only 500 examples of the unique motorcycle would be available worldwide, each serialized on the fuel tank. 

The Arctic Blast paint theme features deep metallic blue with bright blue strokes over a pearlescent white. The Pearlescent White forms the base of the colourway. The lower portion of the motorcycle features metallic deep blue, including the front fender and the batwing fairing. This also includes the underside of the tank, side panels and saddlebags. The Pearlescent White is layered on the top and sandwiched in between the white, and the deep blue are strokes of bright blue. The engine and mechanical parts feature a dark theme. The engine, front suspension, exhaust and alloy wheels are painted black. The motorcycles also feature minimum chrome accents, and the entire trim theme is predominantly black.

The Arctic Blast paint theme will be hand-laid by artisans at Gunslinger Custom Paints. The Colorado-based company possesses nationally-known painters, designers, artists and manufacturing team leaders. Gunslinger Custom Paints have through the decades supplied custom painted components to Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations. The custom paint shop has also curated unique motorcycles and Limited Edition paint sets for Harley-Davidson. 

The Machine

Powering the Harley-Davidson Street Glide Arctic Blast will be a Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin engine. The hot-rod bagger motorcycle comes with the iconic Harley-Davidson batwing fairing with a splitstream vent. The bike features Daymaker LED headlamps, Boom! Box GTS infotainment system with colour touch screen and Navigation. The motorcycle also gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. The motorcycle blend long-haul touring comfort and custom style and comes with stretched locking saddlebags. The bike also features a low profile engine guard and Prodigy custom wheels.

Harley-Davidson Arctic Blast Limited Edition Street Glide Special will retail at USD 38,899 MSRP. The Chopped Tour-Pak luggage carrier with matching paint will be available at USD 1,699.95 MSRP through Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories.

Harley-Davidson have used the Sturgis rally as the perfect excuse to unveil a limited run of Street Glides  with a special paintjob. Known as ‘Arctic Blast’ the scheme consists of a pearlescent white base with metallic deep blue over the top.

Harley are making just 500 Street Glide Specials in the Arctic Blast paint, each one handpainted by Gunslinger Custom Paint in Colorado, USA.

Harley-Davidson Unveil Arctic Blast Limited Edition Street Glide Special

Harley-Davidson is producing a limited run of 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Specials featuring the handcrafted Arctic Blast Limited Edition paint set. The motorcycle was revealed today at the 81st Sturgis Motorcycle Rally . Availability will be limited to 500 examples worldwide, each serialized on the fuel tank.

The Arctic Blast Limited Edition paint will be offered in a single colorway – metallic deep blue with bright blue strokes over a pearlescent white base. Each of the Street Glide Specials receiving the new custom scheme is hand-painted by the artisans at Gunslinger Custom Paint in Golden, Colorado. Gunslinger is home to a renowned group of painters, designers and, artists with decades of experience supplying custom-painted components for Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations team and limited-edition motorcycles. 

“With the Arctic Blast Limited Edition paint offering for the Street Glide Special, at Harley-Davidson, we continue to build on our reputation and lead by example, as the best in exclusive custom motorcycles and design,” said Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO Harley-Davidson.  

The Street Glide Special model is a Harley-Davidson hot-rod bagger that combines long-haul touring comfort and custom style powered by the Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin engine. Key features include the iconic Harley-Davidson batwing fairing, stretched locking saddlebags, a Daymaker LED headlamp, low-profile engine guard, and Prodigy custom wheels.  

“The Arctic Blast paint is executed in strokes of high-contrast color intended to communicate the appearance of motion,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Styling and Design. “The design looks bold from a distance but offers interesting details that can only be seen up close, including a blue pearl effect over the white base, and a ghosted hexagon pattern on the fairing.” 

The Arctic Blast Limited Edition Street Glide Special MSRP is $32,999. A Chopped Tour-Pak luggage carrier with matching paint will also be offered through Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories (MSRP: $1,699.95). For more information visit: harley-davidson.com
