My husband and I recently went on the Wonder of the Seas out of Port Canaveral. We needed a pick up from the Orlando airport to our hotel in Merritt Island the night before the cruise. I made a lot of phone calls and read lots of reviews. I decided to use Cruise Control Transportation, and I'm very happy I did! When we arrived in Orlando, I expected a 1-1/2 hour wait for the driver. However, we collected our luggage and went to the area where we were told to wait. The driver, Dan, called me and told me that he was waiting outside for us. He said he tracked our flight and saw that we had arrived early. We were so glad as it had been a long travel day. Corey was fabulous in communicating with us, both on this pick up and also the pick up after the cruise. I highly recommend this company if you ever need a ride from the Orlando airport to the Cape Canaveral area.

Cruise Control Transporation is absolutely amazing! Would use them any chance we get and recommend them to everyone needing transportation services. Their pricing is fair. Vans are clean inside and out. Drivers are professional and so friendly. Management (Corey) is easy to reach and ready to resolve any unexpected issues. Easily reaching someone (an actual person!) by phone was a unexpected pleasant surprise that doesnt happen often nowadays! We had a family of 10 and just as many bags and drivers were helpful. It was unanimously decided that we had the best experience!

Set up transportation from Orlando Airport to our Cape Canaveral hotel about a week prior to travel and we're very happy with how it all worked out. I got a text while at my home airport even before departing, from the driver with a picture of him and the vehicle. I appreciate that as it is very chaotic curbside in Orlando. He then gave us a call 10 minutes prior to our pickup time. We were walking through the airport and he guided us to the pickup spot. Clean van and very friendly driver who even recommended to us a lunch spot in Cape Canaveral! Great experience and we booked a return trip back to Orlando Airport in a few days.

If you are looking for a reliable and affordable shuttle service, look no further! My experience with Cruise Control was outstanding--from the moment I booked over the phone with Corey....to the day of our scheduled pick up. We received a call from our driver, Ben, when he arrived (on time!) at our hotel. The van was clean and our ride to Port Canaveral was stress free.

We used Cruise Control in October 2022. SWA lost our luggage and I had to deal with that upon our arrival. The driver wanted to leave us at the airport. Given that he didn't leave us, and our subsequent trip from a Disney resort to the Port was excellent, we opted to use them again last week (February 2023). For this latest trip, the transportation from MCO to the resort was fine. When it came time to get us to the Port, we received a call that morning, and it appeared that everything was in order. This driver did NOT help with luggage. Did NOT have the needed car seat for our grandson. Then proceeded to take us to some strip mall parking lot to find a car seat from a trailer in the lot. Eventually we found something, although it was filthy. 40 minutes later, we get started for the port. Twice during the ride, I thought I was going to have to take the wheel as the driver was swerving. He sat in the fast lane, at the speed limit, when there was no traffic in the slow lane. Exposing my family to angry Florida drivers as they went by. When we arrived at the Port, he again did not help with the luggage. When I contacted Cruise Control, I was told that our original driver was in an accident and this guy was someone that wasn't even from Cruise Control. Corey at Cruise Control put my family at risk. We will NOT use them again. They obviously have no depth to be able to handle emergencies. The owner (Corey) was on a cruise at the time. While I appreciate the effort to not abandon us, it wasn't worth putting our family at risk. It also became obvious that there's no one to run the company locally when he's not there. An apology was received, but Corey did nothing to recognize that he put our family at risk and we were still charged full price. We would have been better off with Uber Black.

This company is professional, accommodating & punctual!!!! Our flight to MCO was delayed several hours. I contacted Cruise Control Transportation to inform them of our flight delay. When I spoke with an agent, they were fully aware. I received more information from Cruise Control Transportation, than sitting on the plane. Long story longer when we finally arrived 4 hours later our driver was waiting with a welcome and a smile. Thanks Cruise Control Transportation!!!

We used Cruise Control Transporation to travel from Orlando to Port Canaveral for our cruise. We decided to get to there a day early so getting to the port was not stressful. Instead of using Uber or Lyft, we booked Cruise Control Transportation, so we knew we would get there in time. The driver, Stephanie called me 10 minutes before arriving to tell me how far out she was. She was prompt in picking us up from the hotel. She was very helpful, friendly and the van was nice and cool. She knew exactly where to drop us off and we didn't have to wait in a line of cars. We also used Cruise Control Transportation to pick us up from the port to the airport. Once again, Stephanie was our driver. We were very happy to see her again. She did not disappoint and drove us safely back to the airport. I would highly recommend Cruise Control Transportation to get you where you need to go safely and promptly.

Great communication. Very responsive. When our plans changed twice due to the recent hurricane, they cancelled our first trip, and adjusted our return trip drop off point and price with no issues. Bonus, they happened to be able to arrive early when we got off of our ship sooner than expected. Our vehicle was spotless and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Extremely happy with the service that Cory and his establishment provided. To get you from the airport to the cruise port round trip........ you're not going to find a better deal. Highly recommend.

Port Canaveral Port Overview (Parking, Terminals, and Maps)

If you’re heading out to Port Canaveral, there’s some great news. Despite being one of the busiest cruise ports in the world — serving roughly 4 million passengers each year — the port is a breeze to navigate.

Still, if you’re unfamiliar with the area getting to your ship can be a little confusing. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to help get you where you’re going.

Getting Acquainted with the Cruise Port

Starting out, it helps to have an overview of the port before you get there. The port is located about 45 minutes due east of Orlando, on Cape Canaveral. Don’t worry about not being able to find it. There is only one road from Orlando to Cape Canaveral — Florida 528 (a toll road also know as the “Beachline”).

The Beachline take you directly to Port Canaveral. We’ve highlighted it below:

Port Canaveral Map

Assuming you are coming from Orlando, once you reach Cape Canaveral (after going over two causeways), you will see a roadsign giving you two options. You can either stay on the Beachline to head toward the “B” cruise terminals or you can exit to your right to go to the “A” cruise terminals.

The “A” terminal is where the large cruise ships — Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival — make their home. You will take this exit to your right and make a large loop around. Once you make the loop, you will see the cruise ships almost directly ahead of you.

cruise control port canaveral

Continue down this road and you will head straight until you are almost past all the cruise terminals. Eventually you will see a large blue sign listing all the cruise lines with an arrow that tells you to veer to the right. Just past that, you will see a single lane exiting to the right. This exit will lead you to the cruise terminals.

To know where to go next, you need an overview of the cruise terminals at Port Canaveral. While the port is large, each of the major cruise line has its own dedicated terminals.

Carnival uses terminals 5&6. Disney uses terminal 8. Royal Caribbean uses terminal 10.

We’ve mapped out the location of the terminals below:

Port Canaveral terminal map

Carnival Cruise Terminals (#5 & #6)

Once you exit, you will continue straight (there will be signs directing you) to head to the Carnival cruise terminals. As you continue straight, you will pass directly in front of the terminals, giving you a chance to drop off passengers or luggage.

On your left you will see the parking garage and parking lots. Things can get a little confusing, so we’ve included the map below to who you the path you can take to pass in front of the two terminals and then continue on to the parking lot.

Port Canaveral terminal 5 map

Disney Cruise Terminal (#8)

To get to Disney’s port (Terminal #8), you will take a right after exiting from the main road into the port. Once you exit, you will loop around to your right, before heading back south — the direction from which you originally came into the port.

As you head south, you will want to look for the left lane, which will be marked on the asphalt with a large arrow that says “Disney” underneath. Eventually this lane will turn to the left, and head to the terminal.

Once you turn, we suggest staying in the left two lanes. This will take you through a point where you can drop off passengers or luggage. From there, you will see the parking area on your left. The entrance is on the left, just past the parking garage.

Port Canaveral Disney terminal

Royal Caribbean Cruise Terminal (#10)

If you are sailing Royal Caribbean, you will take a right after exiting from the main road into the port. Once you exit, you will loop around to your right, before heading back south — the direction from which you originally came into the port.

From here you will pass the Disney terminal on your left. Keep going. Eventually the road loops around toward the ship and the Royal Caribbean terminal.

Parking is on your right so you will want to be in the rightmost lane, exiting just before you reach the parking garage and surface lot.

Port Canaveral terminal 10

One thing to keep in mind no matter where you cruise from — help is just a question away. Cruise days are busy, and the port understands that many people aren’t sure exactly where they should go. Don’t hesitate to ask.

6 Best Cruises Out Of Port Canaveral

By Zachary Laks | Published on April 9, 2024

It's time to start planning your next big vacation. Whether you're looking for a weekend getaway, a family-friendly vacation or an extended voyage, you'll find cruises out of Port Canaveral, Florida that tick all your boxes.

When considering one of the cruises out of Port Canaveral, plan extra time before and after your sailing to soak up all the fun that the area has to offer. There's so much to do in Orlando that you could stay for several days and never get bored — music to your ears if you're traveling with children. One of the best things about Orlando cruises is that you have your choice of theme parks to round out your vacation. They're expansive and immersive escapes into playful worlds, not unlike a great cruise. I love tacking on an extra day or two at an Orlando theme park, usually before my cruise departs. I always appreciate the days of racking up thousands of steps traversing a theme park before boarding a cruise, where I know I'll be able to lounge on a deck or relax in a hot tub.

Not far from Port Canaveral, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is a great place to spend a day admiring the vast scope of NASA. The center offers one-of-a-kind immersion into space exploration, including the chance to strap into a rocket launch simulator for an adrenaline-pumping thrill.

For those seeking a more peaceful retreat before boarding their cruises out of Orlando, Port Canaveral is near the white sands of Cocoa Beach. Spend the day enjoying calm, low waves — great for year-round swimming, learning to surf and kayaking alongside manatees and dolphins. Or take a seat on an airboat ride through the wetlands for encounters with alligators and, depending on the season, bald eagles, herons and osprey.

Ready to book a cruise to Port Canaveral? Here are the six best cruises from Port Canaveral.

Serene Clear Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral, Florida

1. Best For A Long Weekend

Coco Beach Club Beach Cabanas Mom and Daughter Tanning, Perfect Day at Coco Cay

Set to launch in the summer of 2024, Utopia of the Seas ℠ will be the sixth Oasis Class ship, Royal Caribbean's class of ships packed with adventure and entertainment. The new ship will focus on three- and four-night cruises from its year-round home port in Port Canaveral, with onboard upgrades that include reimagined pool decks, a Giovanni's℠ Italian Kitchen that spans two decks (try the osso buco!) and the new Pesky Parrot tiki bar, serving fruity cocktails on the Royal Promenade. This itinerary  to the Bahamas on Utopia of the Seas ℠ is the best for a long weekend exploring the highlights of The Bahamas, with a day in Nassau followed by a day at Perfect Day at CocoCay , Royal Caribbean's private island destination.

2. Best For Beach Lovers

Colorful buildings along the coast, Willemstad, Curacao

This exquisite itinerary to the Southern Caribbean on Adventure of the Seas ® routes you to the farthest corner of the Caribbean for some of its best beaches. Sailing on the Adventure of the Seas ® for eight nights from Port Canaveral, you'll stop in ports such as Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curaçao; and Kralendijk, Bonaire. Each port will welcome you with easily accessible, powdery sand beaches primed for world-class swimming, snorkeling and diving. You'll have your pick of 86 dive sites at Bonaire National Marine Park with more than 350 recorded fish species known to frequent the waters.

3. Best For A European Adventure

Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Boats Docked

Transatlantic sailings make for such a special vacation, and this 13-night Transatlantic Azores itinerary on Adventure of the Seas ® packs four remarkable ports into the crossing. You'll cruise the Atlantic for the first nine days, living it up on a ship that is packed with ways to play and relax. You'll arrive in idyllic Tenerife in the Canary Islands on the tenth day. Immerse yourself in the local Spanish culture by spending part of your day exploring the Museum of Nature and Archaeology or the Basilica de Candelaria shrine. The cruise continues to Lanzarote, Canary Islands, where picture-perfect colonial mansions line cobblestone streets, then on to the adventurous mountain island of Madeira, Portugal before completing your journey in the charming streets of Lisbon, Portugal.

4. Best For Private Island Getaways

Hamilton, Bermuda Horseshoe Bay

This unique Port Canaveral cruise itinerary  to Bermuda and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Adventure of the Seas ® visits both of Royal Caribbean's private destinations, where paradise is just steps away from the ship. On an eight-night journey, this ship will first cruise to Labadee, the cruise line's private peninsula adventure park and beach. Soak up this private spot by relaxing on the beach, enjoy the destination's signature cocktail specialty, the Labadoozie (a fruity rum cocktail) or opt for a zip line ride that will send you soaring over the ocean. The next private island destination is Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's oasis in The Bahamas. Here you'll port within short distance of pristine beaches, a thrilling water park and countless ways to unwind beneath the palm trees. There's also a stop in Bermuda, home to pink-sand beaches and rum swizzles.

5. Best For Foodies

Authentic Cozumel Shrimp Tacos

Foodies will delight in fresh, authentic Caribbean dishes on this itinerary to the Western Caribbean and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Wonder of the Seas ® . In Cozumel, Mexico you'll find lunch specialties featuring locally caught seafood, often grouper and red snapper fried on a plate with rice and a vibrant salad. In Roatán, Honduras, ceviche is the local favorite, along with fried plantains and baleadas — tacos made with soft flour tortillas. The ship's final port is Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico, a charming fishing village where the salbutes  (fried corn tortillas topped with shredded chicken) make a great appetizer to the catch of the day, served hot off the grill.

6. Best For Variety

Aruba ATV Off Road Track, Oranjestad, Aruba

This seven-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary  on Wonder of the Seas ® is a top choice if you want to change things up and go on a unique adventure in each port. Your first destination is Philipsburg, St. Maarten, where you can tour the island on an ATV, sample rum from a local distillery or end the day with a sunset horseback ride on the beach. When the ship arrives in the U.S. Virgin Islands at Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, head straight to Magens Bay, often short-listed as one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Or dive into a snorkeling tour to get face time with some sea turtles and coral reefs. On your final stop, Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay, everyone in your group can enjoy a seemingly endless array of activities. If the beach is calling, grab a spot on one of the many cushy beach loungers close to a bar serving up island cocktails that go great with the ocean view. For the adventurous ones, Daredevil's Peak® waterslide is North America's tallest and promises an adrenaline rush.

Encompassing ports of paradise and incredible culture, Orlando cruises are the ideal vacation getaway. Start planning your island escape from Port Canaveral now .

BREAKING NEWS

LAUNCH DAY! Starliner to send NASA astronauts to space for first time. What to know about Florida liftoff

Port canaveral breaks record for most cruise passengers in a month, nearly 800,000 guests cruised in march.

James Sparvero , Reporter

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. – More people are sailing out of Central Florida’s cruise port than ever before.

After reporting 734,000 passengers in December , the port this week again announced record-breaking numbers for March at nearly 800,000 guests.

At that record pace, the port said it could outpace last year’s record numbers by a half-million by the end of this fiscal year in October.

The 16 months between 2020 and 2021 when no passengers departed because of the COVID-19 shutdown are distant memories now.

Capt. Murray said the industry now has a lot of plans for expansion, and new ships are being ordered again.

[EXCLUSIVE: Become a News 6 Insider (it’s FREE) | PINIT! Share your photos ]

“The industry is 110% of what it was prior to the pandemic,” the port’s CEO said. “We’re fortunate to be taking advantage of that here at the port.”

It’s fortunate if you ask port commissioners, but not everyone else is so excited.

Another opinion about the port’s growth can be found in the marina district.

In February, News 6 reporter James Sparvero interviewed fisherman Jamie Glasner after learning the port won’t renew the Cape Marina’s lease to build another cruise terminal.

In a few years, the new terminal could open around the same time the Brevard Zoo’s aquarium at the port is built.

“We’re concerned with having another cruise terminal and then the aquarium going in across the street - the congestion of the traffic over here on the south side of the port, and what it’s going to do to the already existing businesses,” Glasner said. “We just want to make sure that we still have a place that we can come to work.”

Carnival cancels 2 planned cruises from Port Canaveral after ship catches fire

Passengers on a Carnival cruise ship that caught fire over the weekend disembarked at Port Canaveral on Monday.

▶ WATCH CHANNEL 9 EYEWITNESS NEWS

Videos sent to Ch. 9 show dark smoke and flames coming from the Carnival Freedom’s exhaust funnel on Saturday.

Carnival says lightning may be to blame.

In response to this fire, the next two cruises on the ship have been canceled.

The ship was scheduled to depart from Port Canaveral on Monday, and then again on Friday.

The fire was reported while the ship was near the Bahamas.

Passengers reported seeing lightning strike the boat, but the investigation is still underway.

Read: New cruise line coming to Port Canaveral this year

Carnival Cruise Lines released the following statement:

Carnival Freedom experienced a fire in the port side of the exhaust funnel on Saturday. Our onboard team acted quickly to contain and put out the fire. While we continue to investigate multiple eyewitness reports of a lightning strike, our technical team completed a thorough assessment during the ship’s visit to Freeport today. Regrettably, the damage is more than we first thought and will require an immediate repair to stabilize the funnel, resulting in the cancellation of the March 25 and March 29 cruises from Port Canaveral.

The funnel has been stabilized for the ship’s return to Port Canaveral overnight to disembark guests, and then it will go to the Freeport shipyard on Monday afternoon to begin the required repairs.

We sincerely regret the impact to our embarking guests, as we know they have been looking forward to their spring break vacation. We are providing all guests on both cancelled cruises a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit so they can come back and enjoy a future cruise with us. We also greatly appreciate the terrific guests who are currently sailing with us, for their outstanding cooperation and support.
