10 Exotic 'Indiana Jones' Filming Locations You Can Visit Today

By Will Levith

This image may contain Clothing Apparel Human Person Hat Burger and Food

Harrison Ford has portrayed many famous movie characters, but perhaps the most iconic is Indiana Jones. Ford expertly molded the ruggedly handsome (and ophidiophobic ) character that starred in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), The Temple of Doom (1984), The Last Crusade (1989), and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). With rumors that Chris Pratt ( Parks and Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy ) is being groomed as Ford's replacement in a reboot, we're taking a look at the original series' most exotic filming locations, which you can still travel to today.

Hule'ia National Wildlife Refuge

Kauai, Hawaii

Those iconic jungle-treasure-hunting scenes in Raiders of the Lost Ark were supposed to be taking place in the wilds of Peru. They were actually shot on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, with the famed rolling-boulder scene shot in and around the Huleia National Wildlife Refuge.

Sidi Bouhlel Canyon

Tozeur, Tunisia

If you were tricked into believing that the snake-hating and Nazi-face-melting in Raiders took place in Egypt, the film crew did their job well: Those scenes were actually shot in the desert landscapes of Tunisia, with the showdown between Indy and the Nazis taking place near Sidi Bouhlel canyon, just outside of Tozeur. (Fun fact: The Star Wars series has also used Tozeur as a locale.)

La Pallice Port U-boat Pens

La Rochelle, France

Director Steven Spielberg tore this next location directly from the history books. The port of La Pallice in La Rochelle, France, was used by the Nazis during World War II as a U-boat base, so Spielberg cast the real-life location as just that in Raiders . Those eerie, hulking, concrete U-boat "pens" are still visible from the port, but no longer in use.

When Indy faces adversity, he gets creative; that's also what director Steven Spielberg and his crew did with the rope-bridge scene at the climactic ending of Temple of Doom. Unable to film on location in north India where they had originally wanted to, they ended up shooting many scenes, including this one, near Kandy, Sri Lanka.

Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro

The bustling, cosmopolitan streets of Shanghai, China, in the 1930s must've been a sight to behold—and one that Temple of Doom director Steven Spielberg was unable to fully capture in the Chinese city. Instead, Macau's Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro stood in for the street scenes in 1935 Shanghai.

Tuolumne River Rapids

Yosemite National Park

Remember the harrowing raft sequence in Temple of Doom? Indy, Willie (Kate Capshaw), and Short Round (Jonathan Ke Quan) first slide down a snowy mountain face, then careen over a cliff into rapids. The latter scene was shot in the white waters of the Tuolumne River, parts of which flow directly through Yosemite National Park in California.

Petra, Jordan

In The Last Crusade, Indiana Jones is after the Holy Grail, and what better place to "house" it than in a real-life place called "The Treasury"? That's the popular tourist attraction, the Al Khazneh, in Petra, Jordan, a giant, ornately carved sandstone temple facade, which dates back to the first century AD.

Monsul Beach

Andalucía, Spain

With an airplane in hostile pursuit, Indy and his father, played by Sean Connery, are forced out in the open on a sandy beach in The Last Crusade. But the elder Jones' quick thinking (and umbrella) downs the agitating bird. The entire sequence was filmed on Monsul Beach in the province of Almería in Andalucía, Spain, in Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park.

Iguazu Falls

Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil

One of the most breathtaking vistas in the latest Indiana Jones movie, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, comes courtesy of Iguazu Falls, which visitors can marvel at from three separate countries: Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. (If you're willing to get a little wet from the spray, it's an unforgettable adventure.)

Ghost Ranch

Abiquiu, New Mexico

Standing in for 1950s Nevada in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the similarly desolate Abiquiu, New Mexico, where director Steven Spielberg shot scenes on location at Ghost Ranch , an educational retreat in the area. The ranch might be best known as a one-time stomping ground for artist Georgia O'Keeffe.

Can an adult and a child, age 7, go on a two passenger ATV? Or because of the child’s age we have to ride with a guide?

' src=

Aloha Setember! Yes, as long as the child is at least 7 years old the child can ride with an adult on the 2 3 or 4 passenger vehicles. There is no guide riding on the same vehicle with you.

We took this tour in feb. of 2012. Ryan and Mana were our guides. They were way awesome and we had so much fun we are gonna do it again when we visit in may,

Aloha Dawn! Mahalo for your feedback! I am so happy to hear you had a great time and will be doing it again! We look forward to your return!

' src=

We took this AMAZING excursion with Justin and Ryan as our guides. We had a blast!! Justin was humorous yet knowledgeable and Ryan, bringing up the rear, freely offered the “fruits” of the fields. We were given plenty of “Kodak” moments to take home with us as he led us to movie locations, vistas and other points of interest and we saw wild pigs and pheasants. I would recommend wearing long pants if you ride a single ATV because the heat from the motor is a little uncomfortable on the calves!

So glad to hear it! Mahalo for the great feedback!

Great time, Malachi is the best tour guide.

Aloha Brock, Mahalo for your feedback. Happy to hear you had a great tour with Malachi!

ABOUT OUTFITTERS KAUAI

October 1, 2020 News and Updates

Celebrating Over 30 Years of Making Vacation Dreams Come True and Making Changes…

We marked the anniversary with a giant bike, SUP, and kayak sale, and a move to new headquarters in Kipu.  Our focus as a long-time Kauai live event operator and adventure provider going forward is on our core venues of Kipu Ranch Ziplines and River Kayaking operations on Hule’ia and Wailua Rivers.

After 32 years in business, Julie and Rick Haviland have simplified and downsized, leaving our long-time Poipu location behind, and consolidating operations under one roof on Kipu Ranch.  We continue to provide great live events and adventures for locals and tourists such as the innovative FlyLine, which at 4000’, is the longest zipline in Hawaii, the Kipu Zipline Safari, the Hidden Falls Kayak Adventure, and the Wailua River Kayak Adventure.  The Kipu Safari and Hidden Falls Venues both include motorized canoe service on Hule’ia River and are the only kayak events in the state of Hawaii that allow participants to paddle downwind and, rather than paddling back into headwinds, return under power.  Visit www.outfitterskauai.com to learn more.

Our company, like most tour operators, closed under gov’t order at the start of the pandemic and through the mandatory 14-day visitor quarantine. Now, we welcome the implementation of safe travel protocols to Hawaii beginning Oct. 15.  See https://www.gohawaii.com/safe-travels for details.

Pre-travel or airport coronavirus testing will provide assurances to allow for soft re-opening of limited tourism, and the Outfitters Kauai ohana is on Kipu Ranch ready to roll the Kipu Zipline and River Kayak Adventures back out.  The new headquarters are at 230 Kipu Rd, Lihue, HI  96766 and can be found on your map apps by entering the words “Outfitters Kauai Kipu Ranch Ziplines”.  The phone number remains the same at (808) 742-9667.

On October 10th, we began re-opening Outfitters Kauai by partnering with Foto4Food on a Kamaina Kayak Trip to benefit the Kauai Independent Food Bank.  It was a lot of fun, mahalo to all who supported and participated- all the proceeds went to the Food Bank, and local-style donations included a case of spam and another of vienna sausage 😉

After going downhill for 30 years, we made the decision to let the Waimea Canyon Bicycle Downhill and bike rental programs ride off into the sunset.  It’s been a lot of fun… huge mahalos to everyone that’s been a part of those cool cycling operations over the years!

We’ve moved out of our Poipu location and downsized, holding an online auction of surplus bicycles, kayaks, and SUP’s.  There were some great deals on great toys, and we really appreciate all the friendly support and good vibes.

We’re excited to re-open and get back to making vacation dreams come true for our friends and loyal customers from our new Kipu Ranch headquarters.  Kauai’s spectacular scenery, warm waterfalls, lush landscapes, and exciting activities await.

Stay safe, stay sane, and take care of each other.

Peace, Love and Aloha, R & J

On May 1, 2017, we launched our newest venue… the 3/4 mile long FlyLine Kauai Zipline , and the Kipu Ranch Visitor Welcome Center and Ticket Office. The result is improved and reconfigured Zipline Event packages, and a new, convenient check-in location. Even more fun, even better value! Each zipline tour is unique, as our lines vary by size, skill-level, and terrain. Fly with us over lush valleys, tumbling waterfalls and forest canopies — landscapes made famous by movies like Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Our events and venues include more than thrills. All of Outfitters Kauai’s guides are experts in local ecology, natural history, culture and legends of Kauai. You’ll learn about the island while enjoying its adventurous side, and get tips on the best places to dine and special places not to miss during your visit.

Meet the Team:

  • Chevron down Promoters and Founders, Rick and Julie Haviland

Haviland Ohana

The Havilands at Kalalau

Rick grew up in Wisconsin in an old farmhouse at the end of a long gravel road, on a big lake across from a corn field.  As a boy he loved to play on the water in the summers sailing and canoeing, and enjoyed winter sports like skiing, skating, and iceboating. He became a lineman as a young man and was able to fulfill his boyhood dream of being an every-day skier in the Rocky Mountains by working on the road during summers climbing poles, and skiing everyday all winter. When he was offered a line job on Kauai in 1982 he jumped at the chance to live near the ocean and learn about Hawaii watersports.

Julie is a Northern California girl who grew up waterskiing, riding motorcycles, and snowmobiling. She graduated from Chico State University with a degree in Recreational Therapy, and moved to Kauai, also in ’82, to be with friends and windsurf. She worked as a social worker and became the Director of the Kauai Shelter for Family Violence Victims. She and Rick were fixed up by a mutual friend on a blind date and soon were having fabulous times together in the early days of windsurfing, kayaking, and mountain biking on Kauai. As they discovered new places to go and new things to do, they started to dream about sharing their wonderful experiences with island visitors, and decided to see if they could make a go of it.

They wanted to do it right, and began to pursue acquiring governmental permits to operate guided tours on Kauai, and in 1988, received the first permit in the State of Hawaii to run guided sea kayak tours from State facilities. They opened Outfitters Kauai, in Poipu, in the fall of that year, and in the ensuing years have had a great time developing fun new things to do and making people’s vacation dreams come true. Outfitters Kauai was also an initial permitted operator of guided kayak tours of Wailua River State Park and Na Pali Coast, which is a 15-mile wilderness coastline on Kauai’s North Shore. Waimea Canyon Bicycle Downhill tours were started up in ’94. In 1999 Outfitters negotiated land and water use agreements to enable an innovative guided kayaking tour on Hule’ia River that allows participants to paddle downwind through a National Wildlife Refuge location that was a backdrop to the film Raiders of the Lost Ark. The tour group hikes to waterfalls located at the famous Kipu Ranch, and returns to their private dock by an exotic doubled- hulled motorized Hawaiian canoe.

Rick’s past work as a pole climbing lineman and his cable handling skills came in handy when, in 2001, he was inspired by a National Geographic article about canopy tours in Costa Rica, and began to pursue and construct Kauai’s first zipline alongside a Kipu Ranch site used in the filming of the movie Jurassic Park. It was opened for business in 2003. Since then, Outfitters has continued to innovate, bringing together more ziplines, waterfalls, canopy walkways, treehouses, rappelling, suspension bridges, and even waterzips for the enjoyment of their guests. After over 25 years, Outfitters Kauai is still doing new things all the time, and still making people’s vacation dreams come true.

The Havilands reside at a garden home in Oma’o, just outside the Poipu resort area, with their two dogs and cat. Their daughter Nalani, who came along in 1990, is a Kauai High and Chapman University graduate where she played 4 years of volleyball. She has worked as an EMT in Southern California, and recently completed her graduate studies at Barry University in the USVI, and is presently practicing as a Physician Assistant specializing in Diabetes Care in the San Diego area. And the Havilands still go kayaking together every chance they get.

Muppy gets to show people the beauty of her home, and experience their happiness first hand. She loves working with people and being outdoors, so there couldn’t be a better career option for her. Explore the Beauty of Hawaii by Taking an ATV Tour in Kauai!

Couple driving an ATV (covered in mud)

We had a great time doing the off road adventure which included the ATVs, a short hike, two ziplines, and lunch with a quick swim. I am so glad we chose to do ATVs in Princeville because the views were amazing. Wear clothing that you don't mind getting ruined.

ATV driving down a dirt road in Kauai

Excellent ATV tour. The guides were very friendly and helpful, equipment was just as described and terrain and views fantastic. It rained the days before so we got extra water and mud to add to the fun!

ATV Buggy in Kauai, HI

Be prepared to get very dirty -- though keep in mind the dirtier the better! (it's more fun) They provide loaner shorts and shirt to wear over your swimsuit so you don't have to worry about your clothes getting mud on them. You'll drive through parts of Kauai that you would never be able to see otherwise.

Couple in an ATV

The Kipu Ranch ATV Tour was arguably the most fun my wife and I had on our trip. They bring you all over the place in areas of Kauai you would not ever imagine going to! They show you locations of where movies like Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones were filmed.

Kipu Safari Image

KIPU SAFARI

This combo adventure offers it all including kayaking, hiking, zipping, swimming, riding in a covered wagon, and finally being taken back to the starting point by motorized Hawaiian canoe. See movie locations that were used in filming "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Jurassic Park."

Kevin at Falls

As if breathtaking ziplines, spectacular helicopter flights, and thrilling exploration of the sea caves of the Na Pali Coast just isn't enough, Kauai offers even MORE adventures tucked into her rugged interior. This category includes some of the most iconic events on the Garden Island. Everyone has heard of the island's most unique and POPULAR adventure, the Kauai Mountain Tubing . This one is so popular that every summer we have people BEGGING us to get them space a month before their vacation. Don't let this happen to you. Reserve it NOW ... it sells out up to TWO MONTHS in advance during peak travel perdiods!

Another unique adventure, and one we really enjoy, is the Waterfall Rappelling . You'll get even more wet than the tubing, and this one is (mostly mentally) challenging and really offers great Instagram opportunities! People at work back home will be seeing your posts and saying "Wow, you did that???"

ATV Tours are really popular, especially with families and larger groups. The one at Kipu Ranch would be my first choice because you will be riding around in terrain you will instantly recognize as the valley where dinosaurs were running free in Jurassic Park. George Clooney's "The Descendents" scene where he looks down on the remote beach his family is protecting was filmed here, as was the famous Indiana Jones rope swing scene at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Kauai ATV offers a great tour as well, with an even longer ride that visits the entrance of the Wilcox Tunnel, constructed to give trucks hauling sugar cane a shortcut to the Koloa mill ... and then explores the wild, windswept coastline area of Mahaulepu on Kauai's south shore.

We also really like the Waimea Canyon Bike Tour ... it's incredibly scenic and the tour saves you having to drive up (and back down) these curvy mountain roads in the Koke'e / Waimea Canyon area. The ride itself requires you to steer and brake effectively, but it is NOT a physically demanding ride as you COAST downhill for 13 miles!

The Kipu Safari is included here because it is a diverse tour that includes all sorts of activities wrapped into one full day of adventure ... everything from kayaking, hiking, swimming, ziplining, riding in a covered wagon, and even feeding semi-wild boar ... good times!

Indiana Jones Tour

Kayaks loaded on to a boat for the Indiana Jones Tour in Palau

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? If you're looking for a tour that combines culture, adventure, and culinary joy, then the Indiana Jones Tour in Palau is perfect for you!

Fish 'n Fins Palau offers the most exciting and breathtaking tour that you will ever experience. This tour takes you on an adventure through the Rock Islands and the beautiful waters surrounding Palau, where you will explore limestone caves, mangroves, and Yapese stone money quarries.

Starting early in the morning, you'll meet your guide at the Fish 'n Fins dive shop, where you'll have the chance to grab a quick breakfast and a nice Lavazza espresso at the Barracuda Restaurant. Then, you'll set sail to Airai, a Palauan state north of Koror, where you'll be greeted by the breathtaking scenery of Nikko Bay and the Rock Islands.

Your captain will lead you on an incredibly beautiful route before arriving at a small yellow hut, which marks the entrance to a Yapese Stone money quarry. There, you will be introduced to your tour guide for the day, who will take you on a journey through the rainforest.

Group of people standing around a stone money in Palau

As you walk through the rainforest, you'll be amazed by the huge trees, ferns, palm trees, and lush foliage that surrounds you. All our guides are amazing tour guides, who know Palau, nature, and culture like no other. They'll tell you stories about palm trees, crabs, nuts, and of course Yapese stone money, which was mined in Palau and transported to Yap, where it is still used today as a means of payment.

Don't forget to bring a flashlight, as there are some caves in the forest that are better explored with a lamp. You'll be amazed by the beauty of these caves, which are like something out of an Indiana Jones movie.

After your hike through the rainforest, it's time to head back to the water. Your kayak will be waiting for you, our staff have already lowered them into the water. You'll get comfortable in your kayak, and our guide will lead you along the Rock Island limestone formations, which are even more impressive from the kayak than from the day boat.

A group of kayaks with paddlers ebetring a cave in the Rock islands

Then, your guide will take you into the first cave, and from there you'll silently glide through some other caves with stalactites on the way to a picturesque mangrove channel. This channel will lead you to a beautiful little bay, where you'll leave your kayaks and visit another cave on foot before heading to the nearby "Lee Marvin Beach."

"Lee Marvin Beach" takes its name from the actor who shot "Hell in the Pacific" here in 1968. This beautiful beach is where you'll find the next part of your adventure - a delicious Bento Lunch prepared by our Barracuda Restaurant chefs. Cold beer, soft drinks and refreshing cocktails will beavailable (additional charge), too, so you can relax and enjoy the culinary specialties while taking in the tropical view.

After lunch, you'll have some time to relax on the beach, take selfies with a tropical background, build sandcastles, and enjoy another beer. You can process your impressions, and soak up the sun before your next adventure.

Your final stop for the day is the Mandarin Fish Lake, which is only a few minutes away by speedboat from "Lee Marvin Beach" on the way back to Fish 'n Fins. The Mandarin Fish Lake consists of two shallow bays, in which you can watch mandarin fish in the shade of the Rock Islands even during the day.

Indiana Jones Culture & Adventure Tour

After an incredible day of adventure, culture, and culinary delights, you'll return to Fish 'n Fins with unforgettable memories and new friendships made. The Indiana Jones Tour truly exceeds all expectations, and you'll be able to say without hesitation that it was the most exciting and memorable tour you have experienced in Palau.

If you're looking for an adventure that combines culture, history, and outdoor activities, the Indiana Jones Tour is the perfect option for you. Fish 'n Fins offers this tour to anyone looking to explore the beauty of Palau's Rock Islands and learn more about its fascinating culture and history.

Don't miss the chance to kayak through mangroves and limestone caves, visit a Yapese stone money quarry, relax and BBQ on the beach, and snorkel in Mandarin Fish Lake. And most importantly, don't forget to bring your camera to capture the breathtaking views and unforgettable moments.

Fish 'n Fins takes pride in offering an unforgettable experience to all its guests, and the Indiana Jones Tour is no exception. The tour is led by experienced guides who are knowledgeable about the history and culture of Palau, and they will make sure that your experience is both enjoyable and educational.

Mini Indiana Jones adventure

Our guide was relatively new, but was born in the area. She was amazing and fun to be with. She had so much local knowledge of the plants, birds and area history. This was my wife and I's first kayak experience and she made it seem effortless. I would highly recommend this trip.

My husband and I did this tour in mid November. We really enjoyed the kayak portion of this trip down the serene Wailea River. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. We thought our tour guide, Kyle, was great! He was very personable and knowledgable. You do not need previous kayaking experience to do this tour as the river is quite calm and wide, and the tour guide teaches you everything you need to know. I would advise being in somewhat decent shape. There was a lady in our group with her 10 year old son, and she seemed to be struggling in the tandem kayak with her son, but she made it all the way there and back. I was impressed. Maybe this is just personal preference, but I did not like the hiking portion of the tour. It was extremely muddy the day we were there. Water shoes or flip flops would be advisable. The trail was very congested with other slow moving tour groups that were hard to navigate around. The falls were certainly not secret as there were many people there. It was an easy hike from a cardiovascular standpoint, but it can be treacherous in places if the conditions are muddy. There is one area where you grab a rope to avoid slipping down a steep embankment. I, personally, would not take my 12 and 9 year old boys, but to each their own. Definitely worth the trip for the kayaking portion alone...

Thank you very much for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed your kayak tour on the Wailua River. During the Winter months which is our rainy season, the trail is usually muddy. We do not allow flip flops because they are likely to come apart during the hike. Sport sandals, old athletic shoes, or tabis are the best choices. We have an ample supply of used athletic shoes which are available for free use. Crowds can usually be avoided by selecting the appropriate tour time. (We offer six tour times per day; the 11am and 1pm tours would be better times for less people on the trail and at the waterfalls). Kayakers are permitted to stay at the trail head if they prefer to avoid the muddy hike. The rain forest is wet. The wilderness hike is part of the experience. Thanks again for taking the time to share your adventure with us.

It's our first time in Kauai. This was an amazing adventure. Kayaks were very comfortable. Our instructor was Kyle, great sense of humor, and very helpful. We got to the Secret Falls, and he took beautiful pictures of us, he knows the spot where it looks perfect. It was muddy after the rain, but that's the fun part, we totally enjoyed it, and totally will do it again!

indiana jones tour kauai

My wife and I took our 14 year old daughter along on this tour and it became the highlight of our trip!!! Our guide T was very patient, knowledgeable, and engaging the entire 5 hours!!! She had an extensive knowledge of kayaking, hiking, local environment (including plants and animals) and conducted her tour very professionally and safely without being stuffy. This is an activity that is physically demanding and more dirty than you can ever imagine. Kayaking in was very manageable since the river really has no current when the weather is clement. The setting is very peaceful and beautiful and dipping your feet in the water while your partner(s) paddle is great. However, once you reach the trail head - that's a different story. If you are an experienced hiker you will have no issues here. A sturdy pair of shoes with good tread is the answer. Or you can be like me and T and go barefoot. Only she could walk the day after. The trail is ridiculously rugged and muddy but the payoff is breathtaking! I strongly RECOMMEND this tour and this company to any inquiring party! Make sure you get T as your guide, SHE IS PHENOMENAL! (and gives the best restaurant recommendations)

This is absolutely one of the funnest things you can do on Kauai. The kayak tour has a little bit of everything. There are tons of kayak tour operators that go to Secret Falls. After a lot research and comparing everyone's prices, times, etc. we went with Kayak Wailua and are glad we did. First of all, they were amongst the most reasonably priced. There are tour companies that charged double what they did and provided drinks, food, etc.--but you are eating a picnic lunch by a waterfall--you can bring your own champagne and caviar with the money you save by bringing your own food. Dry bags and coolers are provided! Secondly, Kayak Wailua offered a 10 am time slot which seemed to be a pretty sweet spot between a lot of the other tour groups which leave early in the morning and the hordes which leave around noon and 1300. I wanted to have Secret Falls to ourselves as much as possible--and that's exactly what we got. Last but not least, we had a party with 4 adults and 4 kids, and they had 3 person kayaks which worked out great because it allowed us to stick the younger and less experienced kayakers with two older rowers. They do offer higher seat backs for $5 extra for extra comfort which we got for the ladies--but trust me, unless you have back problems you don't need it. The trip itself is a mini-half day adventure that involves kayaking on the scenic Wailua river for about 2 hours total up and down the river, a really fun hike through a beautiful tropical forest, and about 45 minutes spent relaxing and swimming at Secret Falls. There's a little bit of everything for everyone. Some people liked the kayaking the best. Some liked the hike--which involved slogging through calf deep mud at several points--really fun! Personally, I thought Secret Falls was the spectacular pay-off. The water is frigid--about 65 degrees--so if you want to swim in it but hate cold water bring a wetsuit in your drybag! It's worth it to stand underneath the 100+ foot falls and feel the power of the water fall on you. The swimming hole is very shallow (maybe 6-7 feet deep in the middle) so you can stand throughout most of it--including under and behind the waterfall itself. It is spectacular. Don't forget: sunscreen, heavy duty deet spray, and very importantly: solid closed toe water shoes or hiking shoes. If you wear anything that slips off your foot easily, you'll lose your shoe every time you step in the mud.

indiana jones tour kauai

Did the kayak / hike / waterfall tour. Guide was Kyle. Overall a very good experience and a fun day. Kudos especially to Kyle who did a good job of keeping us mostly away from the other throngs of people on the river / trail and for letting people go at their own speed, etc. All in all excellent. One caveat: the trail was extremely muddy and people were definitely at risk of falling (though not off a cliff or anything). The trip would normally be pretty easy for almost everyone but in these conditions some people on the trail didn't look so happy. Cost was very reasonable and everything was done in a totally professional and friendly way. Much better value than some of the other operators doing similar tours.
