Ear Hustle is prison slang for eavesdropping, and that’s what listening to the show feels like: a raw, often funny, and always surprising peek into the reality of life inside prison. Hosts Nigel Poor and Earlonne Woods co-created the show that launched in 2017 while Earlonne was incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison, where Nigel was a volunteer teaching photography. Since Earlonne’s release in 2018, the show has expanded to include stories from prisons across the state, including the California Institution for Women, as well as stories about getting out of prison and starting over, post-incarceration. About Slim Jesus

Quick and angry like an Internet Age Eminem or MGK, Hamilton, Ohio rapper Slim Jesus (originally known as Swag Jesus) broke through in 2015 with the hit "Drill Time," a track that paid tribute to the Chicago-based hip-hop subgenre of drill. A second single, "Buck Buck," landed that same year and Slim hit the road to promote his tracks, touring the U.S. and Canada on the Young & Ignorant tour. ~ David Jeffries

Slim Jesus Reflects On Turning Down Million-Dollar Record Deal With Diddy's Bad Boy Records

Chief Keef Live At The Fonda Theatre

Diddy offered him a $1M deal in 2015.

In the ever-evolving landscape of the music industry, there are moments that define an artist's career trajectory. For Slim Jesus, a pivotal moment came in 2015 when he was offered a record contract worth a staggering $1 million by none other than hip-hop mogul Diddy for his viral hit "Drill Time." However, the Ohio native is now reflecting on his decision to turn down the offer and expressing that he's happy with his choice. The reflection comes amidst a wave of sexual assault allegations that Diddy is currently facing. Moreover, taking to social media, the 26-year-old shared a screenshot of a tweet from Diddy dated September 2015, in which the Bad Boy Records founder publicly declared, "1 Million waiting on Slim Jesus when he come to Bad Boy Records." Accompanying the screenshot, Slim Jesus added his own caption, stating, "They said I was crazy when I ignored this years ago 🤷‍♂️😂."

Diddy's tweet, although deleted shortly after its posting, stirred up considerable conversation and speculation within the music community. While it remains unclear whether the offer was genuine or simply a social media proclamation, its impact on Slim Jesus's career trajectory is undeniable. "Drill Time," was Slim Jesus' claim to fame into the spotlight. Moreover, his unique blend of drill-inspired rhymes and controversial persona quickly garnered attention from industry heavyweights like Diddy. His decision to decline the offer spoke to not seeing the value in the deal at the time. There's been several other artists that Diddy has tried to sign back in the day, such as Consequence.

Slim Jesus Reflects

However, Slim Jesus's decision to decline the million-dollar contract speaks volumes. Moreover, he wasn't willing to compromise his authenticity for fame or fortune. Instead of chasing mainstream success, he chose to stay true to himself and stay independent. While some may view Slim Jesus's decision as unconventional, it's clear that he has no regrets.

In an industry often characterized by big egos and flashy displays of wealth, Slim Jesus's story serves as a reminder that success is not always measured in dollars and cents. Sometimes, the greatest victories come from staying true to oneself and following one's instincts. And now, while Diddy is facing public scrutiny, Slim Jesus is finding himself happy with his decision. Stay tuned to HNHH for more music news!

A native of Hamilton, Ohio, Phillips grew up listening to Chicago artists of the drill subgenre of hip hop, such as Chief Keef , Lil Bibby and Lil Herb . [2]

According to Phillips, his friends initially called him "Swag Jesus", but the moniker was changed to "Slim Jesus" because of his skinny weight. [3] [4]

On August 18, he released its music video on YouTube. The song, which pays tribute to drill music, went viral by September and earned Phillips success. [5] It gave rise to controversy as well, because Slim Jesus raps about shooting guns and killing people on the track. Who is Slim Jesus?

Clarence Smith, known better by his artistic name – Slim Jesus, was born under the zodiac sign of Aries on 10 April 1997, in Hamilton, Ohio USA. He is a rapper, perhaps mostly known for his song “Drill Time”, released in 2015. As of August 2021, a video for this song has been viewed over 59 million times.

Early life and education

Slim Jesus was raised in Hamilton, solely by his mother; there’s no information about his father or any siblings. This young artist struggled through life living in a rough neighbourhood, being bullied at a local elementary school, and dealing with an impecuniosity. Slim Jesus and his mother often had no money to provide for even one meal for days. His mother is also an artist, but she had to work all kinds of jobs.

Wanting to help his mother financially, Slim Jesus tried his luck as a drill rapper. Perhaps these were the reasons why he didn’t  even attend high school, matriculate, or pursue a degree.

Musical career

In his early age, Slim Jesus showed interest for drill rap, which is a style of a musical style interpreted with violence, nihilistic lyrics and sinistrous beats. he started his career as a rapper in his teens, rapping on the streets of Hamilton with his friends. Not long after, he got his first nickname – Swag Jesus. His songs were about killing and guns, money and fast cars; but that wasn’t the way of life that he was living.

Slim Jesus created music in his room, which he posted on his YouTube channel, dreaming about fame and abundance, however, the number of his fans was insignificant. In 2015, he changed his moniker from Swag Jesus into Slim Jesus, because of his slim body shape, as he announced in one of his videos. In the same year his popularity grew when he released his first official track on his SoundCloud account, entitled “Drill Time”. This viral hit had more than 11 million spins.

After having uploaded an official video onto YouTube, Slim Jesus got his chance to fulfil his dream.

Teenagers all over the world started sharing the video on various social media networks, such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and it gained more than 100,000 views in a few days. According to Slim Jesus, he should be thankful to the online magazine “Bosip ”, which published an article about his video, and helped it go viral. In the same year, Slim Jesus released the songs “She Just Wanna”, “Finesse”, “Minut Made Lemonade”, and “Clout”, but these were not as well received by his fans.

In the following year, to gain more fans and followers on the multimedia platforms and social media, he collaborated with several famous rappers, including I.L. Will.

He released a couple of noteworthy songs, such as “Free Smoke”, “On the Block”, “IDGAF”, but the year 2017 was more advantageous for him. He produced remixes of already popular songs, and after having released two hit songs – “Warning Shots” and “Major League” – it seemed that Jesus Slim was ‘back in the saddle’, but unfortunately, his live concerts have never been appealing to an audience.

Love life and relationships

Slim Jesus hasn’t spoken about his love life. Nevertheless, there have been some rumours about his sexual orientation. According to one of his close friends, he has had at least one relationship, but hasn’t revealed who that person was, or if it was a man or a woman.

slim jesus tour

In his songs, he raps about going out with a lot of women, and about treating them with money, drinks and presents, but there isn’t even one picture, or proof about him dating any of them.

Interesting facts

This young artist mentioned in one of his interviews that the reason why he started his professional career in rapping was his idol Chief Keef , an American rapper from Chicago. Actually, drill music is originally from a ghetto in South Side, Chicago.

Since Slim Jesus is from Ohio, and as he has revealed, he didn’t have any act of transgressing, so the public called him ‘a fake rapper’, as did one of his musical opponents Lil Mouse, a teenage rapper from Chicago, who dissed Slim Jesus with a track called “Kill Time”.

In the song, Lil Mouse didn’t mention Slim’s name, but everyone who listened to the track realised that the disrespectful words were addressed to Slim Jesus. Lil Mouse was angry with him, because he sang about something that he had never seen or experienced.

How did Slim Jesus die?

In 2016, the news of Slim Jesus’s death resounded around the internet. The magazine „Huzlers“ announced that he was killed in a drive-by shooting in front of his house in Hamilton.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jamal 🔫 (@julian.is.cool.12)

It is assumed that this young artist was killed while he was filming a music video for his new song. When the shooting started, Slim’s friends ran away, and he was the only one hit – by three bullets. The car drove by and then came back to take his body. The shooters placed Slim Jesus’s body on a cross made of wooden boards. They nailed his feet and hands to the cross, probably trying to imitate the crucification of Jesus Christ. They also wrote on his stomach, with black spray, reading “ I wanna be Jesus so bad”. It seems that the authorities haven’t been able to find the perpetrators of this crime.

Eventually, it was confirmed that this was all just marketing, but there’s still a veil of secrecy about what truly happened to this young rapper.

One thing’s for sure, his latest video for the song “Splurgin”, uploaded onto YouTube on 19 February 2021, has over 230,000 views and 1,300 comments. Whether they hate him or admire him, they are still talking about Slim Jesus and his music.

Age, height and net worth

Slim Jesus’s age is 24. He has short blonde hair, and his eyes are brown. His body shape is slim – he’s 5ft 8ins (1.73m) tall, and weighs around 122lbs (55kgs).

As of August 2021, his net worth has been estimated at close to $400,000.

Slim Jesus Net Worth 2024

By: Author Bulgarea Candin Stefan

Posted on Last updated: March 17, 2024

Slim Jesus Net Worth – $300,000

What is Slim Jesus’ net worth?

Introduction

You’ll probably recognize Slim Jesus for his 2015 rap single, Drill Time.

The song, in which the petite Ohio boy talks about shooting people, buying designer clothing, and hanging out with his gang on Frank block, attracted more than 50 million views over a six-year period.

As for Slim Jesus, despite Drill Time’s success, he hasn’t managed to get his YouTube subscriber count past 280,000.

We’re digging into his past to find out everything there is to know about the diminutive rapper often mocked for looking like kids’ cartoon character Caillou—or Dewy from Malcolm in the Middle.

The Origin Story

Slim Jesus was born Clarence Smith on April 10, 1997.

He hails from Hamilton, Ohio, where he was raised by his mom.

Slim Jesus has always been an outgoing kid, and is described by people who know him as extroverted.

He has a strong relationship with his mom, and has referenced her multiple times in interviews for her resilience and grind.

His musical icon is Machine Gun Kelly. MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, is a rapper most famous for piggybacking off rap icon Eminem with the diss track Rap Devil , and dating former actress and early 2000s beauty, Megan Fox.

His other celebrity role models are NBA Youngboy, Chief Keef, and Logic.

Youngboy and Chief Keef both rose to prominence on YouTube, while Logic is signed to Def Jam Records.

Slim Jesus initially went by the moniker Swag Jesus, but changed it in 2015.

He was 18 at the time of the release of his first-ever rap single, Drill Time.

It’s Drill Time

what is the net worth of Slim Jesus

The song gained hundreds of thousands of views in its first few days.

Over the next five years, the official music video would be watched 58 million times.

While the video was only a partial success—many of the comments and publicity that followed was negative—it must have paid off in some form for Slim Jesus.

In a 2017 interview he claimed he hadn’t needed to work since the track’s release.

The claim was surprising, given the lukewarm reception the undersized teen received while on the road for his US tour that year.

Shows in Kentucky failed to attract more than 30 people —most of whom had left by the end of the set.

Another show , this time in Ottawa, Canada, was interrupted when a man snatched the mic from Slim Jesus—who failed to put up any kind of resistance—and stated, “Support real hip hop.”

Many listeners felt that Slim Jesus was living in a fantasy world when he dropped the track, specifically in his references to guns, crime, and women.

At the time, Slim Jesus claimed that he wasn’t involved in that life—but that he had friends who lived that life.

By 2017, he’d edited that stance a little—claiming that he was still not going to incriminate himself by admitting to anything.

After Drill Time’s release in August of 2015, Slim Jesus followed up with Traffic and Buck Buck —another track about guns and criminal activity.

Slim Jesus went out on the road with his Young & Ignorant tour to promote his music and build his US following in 2016.

The tour failed to get any traction with a rap fan base, and it appeared that Slim Jesus’s star had fizzled out as quickly as it had been born.

Slim Jesus Net Worth

Most of the rap community can’t come together to agree on anything—and what they think about Slim Jesus is no different.

Diplo gave him a shout-out on Twitter in 2015, saying, “just at home with my friends listening to Slim Jesus.”

French Montana teased fans with a co-sign, tweeting, “@TheSlimJesus feat. @Montanaof300 #comingsoon”

In the true style of rewarding mediocrity, even Sean Puffy Combs reached out via Twitter with a mouth-watering offer: “1 million waiting on Slim Jesus when he come to Bad Boy Records.”

Not all the celebrity feedback was good, though.

The Game offered some advice to the young wannabe hood, saying:

“You got people that are offended. Many rappers within the drill movement have lost their lives. This ain’t no game.”

Game referenced real players in the drill game, like Bobby Shmurda, and went on to call Slim Jesus corny.

The Compton rapper wound up his feedback with an ominous warning: “Be careful Slim Jesus.”

The rapper went viral off his 2015 track "Drill Time."

Slim Jesus  has revealed he's happy he didn't sign to  Diddy 's Bad Boy Records for $1 million after his song "Drill Time" went viral back in 2015.

On Saturday, the rapper hopped on his Instagram Story and shared a screenshot of a 2015 tweet from Diddy in which he tried to recruit him to Bad Boy. "1 Million waiting on Slim Jesus when he come to Bad Boy Records," Diddy wrote in the since-deleted tweet.

In his caption, Slim Jesus replied, "They said I was crazy when I ignored this years ago [shrug emoji, laughing emoji]."

Jesus has never been fond of signing to a major label despite getting phone calls from a few. At the height of his popularity, the 26-year-old released a video of himself burning a contract to show he wasn't aligning with any of them and would rather stay independent.

"A little fun fact a lot of y'all don't know. I been had offers from the same bullshit ass labels signing your favorite rappers. And you know how I feel about 'em? Fuck a label. We getting independent money, bitch," he said in the video, while adding in the caption: "Fuck a label #IndependentMoney."

Slim Jesus' fame was short though, as several of his rap peers questioned his career, including Young Chop and Lil Mouse. However, Slim Jesus made it clear his music doesn't portray who he really is  during an interview with VladTV .

"Street wise, I mean, for the most part on the street shit like I got homies that are in that shit and I know people who are and people around me," he said. "I mean, I'm not out here catching bodies and shit, obviously, I'm fucking smart."

Charlamagne Tha God  praised the rapper for being honest with fans in an interview with VladTV, stating, “It’s not cause he’s hot. It’s not cause he’s hot in the streets. [We] fuckin’ with Slim Jesus. It’s that we saw his video. And the video had the warning in the beginning that none of this is real, which I thought was dope. Cause why incriminate yourself if you don’t fuckin’ have to? A lot of you stupid mothafuckin rappers could learn a lot from Slim Jesus.
