We took the Fall Tour and it was great. Captain Troy was very informative and encouraged questions. The marh is beautiful and serene.
This is a Must-Do!! Our group of four loved the marsh boat tour/including two of us who were local! We all enjoyed being out on the water and the beauty of the marsh. The two tourists in the group loved the history and learning about the area. The proprietors (husband and wife) were kind and welcoming.
We went for a Mud boat tour for our .Anniversay. we had such a great time! Our tour guide was wonderful and so very knowledgeable about the history of the Marsh and alot of fun!. We will be back next summer for sure. The owners are awesome. I am so happy they invested in The Blue Heron and kept it going.
Went on the afternoon boat tour and it was great!! Our guide was very pleasant and shared the history of the Marsh with us. Was a beautiful and relaxing tour. We plan on going back next year. Boat is accessible to those who have mobility issues. Was easy to get a wheelchair on/off boat. Would definitely recommend you take this tour!!!
On the second part of our adventure in the Horicon Marshes (first being the Horicon Marsh Education & Visitor Center) we stopped at the Blue Heron Landing Gift Shop for the boat tour. Admission is $12 for adults. $6.25 for kids aged 4-13. A half hour before your tour starts you're invited to watch a 20 minute video on the efforts to increase the whooping crane population. It's kind of an older program but the info was still relevant and Graham Greene made it a good watch. Once it's over, you'll make your way to the boat. I'll be honest with you. I'd never even heard of the Horicon Marsh and National Wildlife Refuge before arriving in the small town of Horicon (population 3655). But after the boat tour, I probably know all I'll ever need to know about it. The tour was about an hour long and very informative & educational. You learn how the marsh was formed and currently maintained. You also find out about many of the animals, plant life and how the marsh is a world wide top 10 destination for bird watching. If looking to kill a couple of hours while learning lots of good stuff, I wholeheartedly recommend taking one of the boat tours. Just keep in mind they recommend a reservation because it does fill pretty quickly. They also do different tours throughout the year so checking the website to see what tour is going on at the time.

We took a 2-hour birding tour on a Sunday morning and really enjoyed it. There were 11 passengers on our tour - that was a good number, as we all got to sit under the sun shade. We observed 43 species. Our guide Jerry (sp?) was very good. He shared a lot of knowledge about the birds as well as about Horicon Marsh in general. He also kept the group from going off on tangents, which can happen on birding tours. He also made sure that everyone had a chance to see every species observed, whenever possible. I did knock off one star because there was no meaningful discussion of safety procedures. Even though the marsh is only 2-3' deep in most places, in the channels it can be over 6' deep. They should at least briefly discuss what to do in case of an emergency. The odds of something unpleasant happening were extremely slim, but if they did, people on board ANY vessel should know what to do and what safety measures are in place. The only safety discussion at all was a warning from one of the workers for everyone not to sit all on the same side. They should have said something about flotation devices (were they even available?), what to do if someone falls into the water or drops a camera or binoculars, told people not to move around while the boat was moving, etc.. I"m surprised that the state of Wisconsin doesn't enforce the sharing of safety procedures on commercial tour boats.
Review for the boat tour only. Because the Mister and I are bird watching nerds we head up to Horicon every now and again. We've walked the trails many times but never taken a boat tour until today. Blue Heron appears to be the only one currently running tours - there's an evening ride on Saturdays, a bird watching "adventure" on Sunday AM's and a sightseeing tour on Sunday afternoons. The boats are fairly bare bones pontoons (plastic chair seating) with sun/rain shades but if it's wet or cold you'll be wet/cold so dress appropriately! I thought the price was super reasonable - $20/adult for 2 hours. Our guide, Jerry, did a great job pointing out birds, answering questions and providing lots of interesting info about the marsh, bird habits, history and nature in general. For example did you know that the largest beaver caught in Horican Marsh was EIGHTY FIVE pounds????? Let that sink in, people. That's bigger than a Labrador Retriever. Also you probably shouldn't google anything related to "biggest beaver" if you're at work. Anyway, because it's fall migration and it was cold out (a lap blanket is not a bad idea) there weren't tons of birds but what can you do? I saw a bald eagle (amazing) and learned about giant mutant beavers. Other helpful facts: *Call ahead to reserve especially during "peak" times. There's a limited number of seats. *Blue Heron Landing has a cute gift shop and a nice place to wait if you arrive early. Clean restrooms too. *Kids aren't prohibited but you should really think twice. If your precious snowflake can't sit - quietly - for two hours, please don't bring them. They'll be bored, restless and consequently annoying as hell to everyone else. (Ahem...ladies with the 4 6-year old boys on this AM's boat) Anyway, this tour takes you to parts of the marsh that are simply inaccessible any other way. If you can't take a group tour, they do rent canoes & kayaks. Maybe you'll see the Worlds Biggest Beaver.
I'd give more if theyd actually let you rent. First excuse beginning of September was to much rain for the dock . Second excuse mid September when I returned is that the current is to strong for a kayak . Third excuse at the end of September is oh now we are closed because there are duck hunters along the river . In the city limits they shoot guns ? This is laughable if you don't want people during the best season in wisconsin just say so .
My fiancé and I took the sunset boat tour this Saturday and had a great time. The tour starts with beers (Spotted Cow!) and snacks at the Blue Heron building before boarding the boat. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Horicon Marsh. He pointed out wildlife along the tour, including two bald eagles and their eaglet, blue herons, cranes, muskrats. The tour provides views of the marsh you can't get from hiking the trails and the sunset was beautiful. If you're visiting the marsh I definitely recommend checking out a Blue Heron tour.
Until we by our own kayaks this is our go to place to rent them when we visit the horicon marsh. Located by the bridge off hwy 33 it is easy to find And a private parking lot makes parking a breeze. We have rented both canoes and kayaks on multiple occasions and the staff has been friendly and helpful every time we've gone. Single person kayak rental is $25 and includes the life jacket. They have maps available and with 10 miles of kayaking along the main stretch it is a full day of fun. We have seen otters, beaver, turtles, large fish, and birds we have yet to identify. The kayaks are in good shape and clean. Just remember to bring your own sunscreen and water for the day. Most of the marsh is full sun with only a small stretch of shaded tree covered area. The company has a small gift shop inside the kayak check out and offer boat tours as well. I did go on one of the bird watching tours and enjoyed it!

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat
- Description
- Choose date
Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.
The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.
Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.
We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around! It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).
