Severe Weather Continues in the Central and Southern U.S.
Dangerous severe weather will continue overnight in the nation’s heartland with potentially intense tornadoes and very large hail. The threat for severe weather will shift eastward into the Ohio Valley and mid-South on Tuesday. Farther west on the back side of this large storm system, strong winds and critical fire weather will affect the southern and central High Plains through midweek. Read More >

North Texas rainfall totals: Some areas see more than 6 inches of rain
Dallas weather: may 5 morning forecast.
FOX 4 meteorologist Kylie Capps takes a look at the rain and storms from overnight before looking ahead to the rest of the week.
North Texas was soaked by rain from Saturday night to Sunday morning.
Much of North Texas saw more than two inches on rain, with some areas, like the south and west seeing more than half a foot.
Some parts of Hamilton and Bosque counties saw up to nine inches of rain.
With the ground already saturated by the rain earlier this week, some areas saw flash flooding.
Several high water rescues were reported.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Office says they are out checking for flooding on Sunday morning.
Johnson County Emergency Management said that rescue teams from Ellis County and Texas Taskforce 1 were brought in the help with rescues.
Several roads in Johnson County are closed due to high waters.
The record for rainfall at DFW Airport on May 5 is 3.50 inches, which was set in 1995.
The rain is pushing off to the east on Sunday morning.

Storms pass, but high water still holding up SE Texas highways
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- US 59 in Polk and San Jacinto Counties is back open after extensive flooding late last week forced the highway's closure.
Still, the threat of running into water on the surface streets and feeder roads near freeways is not over, and many areas are unsafe for travel.
Remember, if you come across high water, don't attempt to drive through it. Turn around, don't drown.
As of Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m., Houston Transtar is reporting the following high water locations .
- IH-69 Eastex Northbound at San Jacinto River, Frontage Road U-turn is closed beginning Thursday at 9 a.m.
- IH-69 Eastex Southbound At San Jacinto River, Frontage road U-turn is closed beginning Thursday at 9 a.m.
- FM-1485 Eastbound At Montgomery-Harris County Line All Mainlanes is closed beginning Wednesday, May 1, 2024 12:20 AM
- FM-1485 Northbound At Harris-Montgomery County Line All Mainlanes is closed beginning Wednesday, May 1, 2024 3:58 AM
Grimes/Brazoria County Line - SH 30 at Navasota River is now closed.
Even though the National Weather Service's flood watch expired Sunday, after 93 hours in effect, moderate to major river flooding is expected to remain a concern for at least a week. Don't drive around any remaining barricades.

More storms headed to Dallas-Fort Worth as flood watch issued for areas of North Texas
The rain chances will last throughout the weekend..

Overnight rain lingered into Thursday morning in Dallas-Fort Worth and was expected to clear up for a portion of the day before storms returned.
Parts south and east of Dallas were under a flood watch Thursday night and Friday morning as some areas were forecast to get 2 to 4 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. Some isolated areas may get up to 5 inches.
Flooding chances are increased since some locations are already saturated from recent rain.
The flooding would likely occur in low-lying, urban and poor drainage areas.

There will be periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms through the weekend, with strong storms and heavy rainfall possible at times.
Despite the storms, high temperatures are expected to remain in the 80s in Dallas.
Those highs could creep into the 90s by the middle of next week as drier weather returns.
“Summer is on its way...,” an advisory from the weather service said.
