Overnight rain lingered into Thursday morning in Dallas-Fort Worth and was expected to clear up for a portion of the day before storms returned.

Parts south and east of Dallas were under a flood watch Thursday night and Friday morning as some areas were forecast to get 2 to 4 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. Some isolated areas may get up to 5 inches.

Flooding chances are increased since some locations are already saturated from recent rain.

The flooding would likely occur in low-lying, urban and poor drainage areas.

There will be periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms through the weekend, with strong storms and heavy rainfall possible at times.

Despite the storms, high temperatures are expected to remain in the 80s in Dallas.

Those highs could creep into the 90s by the middle of next week as drier weather returns.

“Summer is on its way...,” an advisory from the weather service said.
