MotoTravelGreece

ΜotoTravelGreece is made up of people who are exactly what our trade mark is saying.

We love motorcycles, we love to travel with them and we love Greece.

Let's look at one of these three words in reverse

A country that is really a motorcycle paradise. Ideal destination for every rider. Greece, contrary to what most people think about it, is not a country that has only beautiful beaches, gorgeous islands and a very rich history. Clearly, it has all these, but ... it is basically a mountainous country with magnificent mountains, very different from each other, with an endless network of mountain twisty roads for all tastes. Lovely small traditional villages are perched on the most unlikely places, forests, lakes, rivers, monasteries and of course among this incredible beauty ancient temples and theaters. The amazing thing of course is that the sea is always so close to enjoy it.

Traveling anyway is not a simple process in our lives. It starts from the moment we dream of it, it proceeds with its design, it continues with its realization and stays forever in our mind as another experience full of rich memories. Traveling, especially with a motorcycle is a challenge. We believe that traveling a country with a motorcycle is the best way to discover it. Become acquainted with the unknown beauties, smell it, taste it. We at ΜotoTravelGreece, with the certificate of FIM Europe as Tour Assistants, know almost every path in Greece and we invite you to discover this wonderful country with us.

"Safety first" is our slogan and you have to add "pleasure too" ... That's why at MotoTravelGreece we have ensured that we have in our fleet all the latest BMW and YAMAHA models, brand new, fully equipped to enjoy the magical routes we have designed for you, in the best and safest way. Absolute adventure motorcycles in their latest versions. Equipped with GPS for your navigation, safety equipment from Touratech, and complete safety equipment for you, we have taken care of everything that will make your tour with us an unforgettable experience.

A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE PAST AND THE PRESENT.

Mystical greece,  motorcycle tour.

Tour Dates

Our Mystical Greece itinerary ensures a scenic ride full of history.

Take a sneak peek into our day-to-day journey, arrive in athens.

Welcome to Athens. On our first day we’ll get acquainted with our bikes, tour details, get to know each other and have a good warm-up afternoon on the coast of Athens.

greece motorcycle tours

Athens to Delphi

Our day starts in Attica, old and famous region, set around Athens. It offers picturesque coastlines, many ancient wonders and rich heritage combined with urban buzz, lately developed in the capital of Greece. Gods and oracles are calling us to Delphi, ancient site under the mountain of Parnassus in central Greece. Nice countryside riding will get ourselves warmed up. Later today, we take a tour of this mysterious site before having dinner.

greece motorcycle tours

Delphi to Meteora

We’ll make our way north with great sweeping roads getting us first to Thermopylae, famous for historic battle and hot springs visited by many. Quick lunch and we’ll be grinding through flats around Karditsa and Trikala, trying to reach the famous monasteries of Meteora early as possible. Nice panoramic ride through small winding roads around these magnificent rock formations on which this amazing UNESCO heritage stands.

greece motorcycle tours

Meteora to Lefkada

Great ride through many national parks of mountain ranges of Tzoumerka and Peristeri while we make our way south, towards Peloponnese Peninsula, but before that, an enchanting overnight on the island of Lefkada or Lefkas. Although it’s recently growing in popularity, it still is a pristine and naturally beautiful.

greece motorcycle tours

Lefkada to Olympia

We set foot on Peloponnese today. Riding over, or under, a beautiful bridge that connects it to mainland, over to Patras, big coastal town, usually best to avoid. Nice and relaxed riding, allowing enough energy for a tour of Olympia, archeological site famous for the birth of Olympic Games and its sacred sanctuary dedicated to Zeus. Lively town surrounds the site making it a pleasant overnight stop.

greece motorcycle tours

Olympia to Kalamata

Peloponnese is riddled with ancient ruins and mystery, but for now, we’ve had our dosage of knowledge, it is time to find the best roads, small villages tucked in the rugged coast, beaches with white sand, have a taste of Kalamata famous black olives, wine and all what this great region has to offer. Today we ride the mountains through Sparta and Mystras, climbing passes and finding our way through neverending forests. At the end of the day we descend down to Kalamata, our two night stop.

greece motorcycle tours

Kalamata – Exploration Day

Plenty to do around. Explore the coast west of Kalamata, find quaint little towns, get a taste of olive trees and cheese. Soak in the relaxed vibe of Kalamata and take a swim on the beach.

greece motorcycle tours

Kalamata to Monemvasia

Exploration till sunset. We head to the remote region of Mani. Tales of bygone era are being whispered here. Distinct tower houses are following you while you ride the tiny wingy roads through this rugged landscape. Somewhere to sit, have a fresh coffee and gaze into the sea. Slowly we make our way to Gythio, fishing town on the east coast of Mani Peninsula and continue to our final destination for today, Monemvasia, a stunning medieval town located on a rocky island.

greece motorcycle tours

Monemvasia to Nafplio

Lots of little villages and quirky roads taking us north. Great riding among forests rising on the plateaus does not end when we reach Leonidio and the coast, coastal ride doesn’t disappoint either. We’ll ride along the coast of Argolic gulf, passing some big towns and straight flat sections, until we arrive to Nafplio, another gem on Peloponnese. City speaks Venetian, Ottoman and Greek while you walk the old town, filled with shops, art galleries, bars and restaurants. Great town to do some souvenir shopping before we head back to Athens.

greece motorcycle tours

Nafplio to Athens

Our last day, but not to forget this beautiful land, we’ll have a splendid ride today. First we visit Epidaurus, a testament to Greek ingenuity, architectural brilliance and cultural significance. Short 1 hour stop to stretch our legs. We’ll follow the great coastal road to Corinth before making our last connection ride on the motorway, back to Athens.

greece motorcycle tours

Departure from Athens

It’s time to bid adieu, but what a journey it has been! As we say our farewells, guests returning home will head to Athens Airport, while those extending their stay with add-on packages will be whisked away to continue their Greek escapades. Until we meet again, keep the wind in your hair and the spirit of adventure alive!

After the Acropolis, Delphi is the most popular archaeological site in Greece. Many people don't even know why they are going to Delphi. It's just something they know they are supposed to do when they go to Greece. But for those people who read, Delphi has a special meaning, more than just another collection of ruins in a country that is full of them. Delphi in ancient times was considered the center of the known world, the place where heaven and earth met. This was the place on earth where man was closest to God. In Mythology, Delphi was the meeting place of two eagles, released by Zeus and sent in opposite directions. Where they met indicated the center of the earth. Delphi is known as the center of worship for the God Apollo, son of Zeus who embodied moral discipline and spiritual clarity. But even before the area was associated with Apollo there were other deities worshipped here including the earth goddess Gea, Themis, Demeter, and Poseidon, the well-known god of the sea. By the end of the Mycenaean period, Apollo had displaced these other deities and became the guardian of the oracle. The oracle of Delphi was a spiritual experience whereby the spirit of Apollo was asked for advice on critical matters relating to people's lives or affairs of the state. Questions were asked to the Pythia, a priestess who 'channeled' the spirit of the God. Whether one believes in the channeling of Gods or spirits is an individual thing. But even the most skeptical person must realize that there was something 'magical' going on in Delhi for several thousand years and the fact that the town still attracts a million visitors a year is a hint that some of that magic is still there. Many people who come to Delphi claim they have felt 'something'. It may depend on your receptivity and your belief system, but there are people who believe that the spirit of Apollo still resides in Delphi and just as he was thousands of years ago, he is still available now, to answer questions and give personal advice or affairs of the state. One might keep in mind that a visit to Delphi is also on the itinerary of visiting dignitaries and the list of Greek politicians who have not visited the sacred oracle would be a short one. Just food for thought, but visiting Delphi with an open mind may be an enriching experience. (www.greecetravel.com)

The first Olympic games in 776 BC were the beginning of a sport event which took place in regular intervals of four years. The games started out as a tribute to Zeus. Greek athletes from all over Greece, which was split into many different countries at that time, met for five days. For three months all the fights between the different people had to be stopped. Only “free Greeks” were allowed to participate. Barbarians, which means non-Greek citizens, were allowed to watch the games as spectators while slaves were banned of course. Women were also not allowed inside the Olympic grove after the start of the games. The site of ancient Olympia is gigantic: The temples of Hera and Zeus, the hippodrome and stadium, the Greek baths, Gymnasion and Palaestra, all this and more can be discovered here, so your visit may take some time...

Epidaurus, large Amphitheater

greece motorcycle tours

The famous theatre at Asclepius of Epidaurus is one of the most important monuments of ancient Greece and a world-class attraction. It combines perfect acoustics, elegance and symmetrical proportions. It was built around 340-33 BC, so that the patients of the Asclepion could watch theatrical performances and was in use until the 3rd century AD. Imagine it how it once was, when musicians, singers and actors performed here every four years in the spring. Imagine the dramatic performances and rituals that honored the god of medicine, Asclepius, and be transported to another time. An institution from 1955 onward, the ancient theater of Epidaurus once again holds a prominent position in modern Greek culture. It has hosted acclaimed ancient dramas, operas, symphonies and dance performances, featuring top Greek and foreign actors, directors, set designers, choreographers, musicians and composers. The most famous of all the performances were those of the Greek National Opera in 1960 and 61 when the legendary diva Maria Callas sang Bellini’s ‘Norma’ and Cherubini’s ‘Medea’ respectively. This lush green landscape in the Peloponnese, with its sunny climate and numerous thermal springs was the perfect location in which to build the Asclepion – the headquarters of antiquity’s god-physician and the most important healing centre in the Greek and Roman world. Its fame travelled beyond the borders of the Argolid and it is known as the birthplace of medicine. Its monuments are renowned masterpieces of ancient Greek art and have borne witness to the practice of medicine in ancient Greece. The worship of the god Asclepius was established here in the 6th century BC. (www.discovergreece.com)

Athens, with its tall buildings and contemporary shops, is the first European city when approached from the Middle East. When approached from the west, from elsewhere in Europe, what strikes the visitor is the influence of the East - in the food, music, and clamorous street life - perhaps vestiges of a time when Athens was divorced from European society under the yoke of Ottoman rule. Nevertheless, it is wrong to say that Athens is a mixture of East and West: it is Greek and, more particularly, Athenian. The city, after all, nurtured Western civilization thousands of years ago. Athens remains on the world stage to this day. (www.britannica.com)

Meteora Monasteries

greece motorcycle tours

How could anyone describe this astonishing geological phenomenon, the breathtaking landscape, the inspiration and spirituality felt, the awe for man’s achievements in an effort to express his religious drive when these are only some of the many things a traveler experiences when visiting this phenomenal land! These immense, solid rocks, split by earthquakes, weathered by water and wind over millions of years, are nature’s authentic masterpiece. Emerging about 25 million years ago as the elevated seabed material that was the outcome of strong tectonic movements, the Meteora rocks became a shelter of humankind. The first hermits arrived in this area to seek spiritual isolation and inhabited the caves of the rocks, with the sole aid of ropes and ladders. Common existential needs and strong religious faith compelled them to live united in the first monastic communities, their common drive of faith guiding them towards the unrepeated construction of monasteries of highest architectural and artistic value. The 24 monasteries emerged on the countless summits of the rocks from the 14th until the 16th century, 6 of them remaining to be explored and admired by all. These monasteries became the centers of the Orthodox creed in the Byzantine era, having produced some of the best pieces of religious art and craft and still possessing a collection of precious manuscripts, which today are on display in their museums. The Meteora monasteries have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and the Meteora-Antichassia region has been officially declared a Natura 2000 Ecological Zone by the Greek Ministry of Environment, for the protection of rare species of birds and flowers. Gulf of Corinth

greece motorcycle tours

This inlet, measuring 130 km (81 miles) long, up to 32 km (20 miles) wide and up to 935 m (3,070 ft) deep, connects Athens and the port of Piraeus to the Ionian Sea. It was a cul-de-sac until 1893, when the new Corinth Canal provided a shortcut across the base of the Peloponnese peninsula. The gulf fills the gap between the Anatolian and the Eurasian plates, which drift apart with a speed of about 1 cm (0.4 in) per year. The "Superbridge" which spans the gulf at its narrowest point was designed to adapt to this movement.

Best of Greece BOG

Come with me and let yourself be enchanted by greece, the cradle of western culture.

Ancient Greece is the cradle of our civilization, our culture, and society. Countless words that we use every day are derived from Greek, such as automobile, cosmos, democracy, atmosphere, politics, telephone, anesthesia, or panorama, to name just a few. The ancient Greeks not only influenced science, art, and literature, they practically invented them. Athens, the capital, is filled with history, monuments, and memorials like no other city in the world. Except for Rome maybe, but this is a different tour. On this tour here you will experience some of the great attractions of Greece, such as Delphi, Olympia, and the Meteora monasteries for example. But also gems, that not every traveler will find, are on the program, such as the Pindos Mountains or the enchanting mountain village Vytina, where we will even spend two nights. In the fourteen days, you will get to know everything that defines real Greece: 3000 years of culture, stunning nature, excellent food, and extremely friendly people, not to mention the always beautiful weather and the wonderfully winding, mostly empty and always panoramic roads who really enjoy riding a motorcycle. And every time you sit in a kafenion and enjoy your espresso, you can look forward to being on tour in a paradise like Greece. If the ancient Greeks only knew ...

Motorcycle Tours in Greece

Combining the very best that Europe has to offer – the mountain twisties, the sun-drenched coastal routes, and the paradise islands in the Mediterranean Sea – motorcycle tours in Greece are an incredible experience. Because of its mountainous terrain, countless little country roads winding through spectacular landscapes, easy access to the Ionian and Aegean Seas, great weather, and laid-back culture, Greece is one of the most rewarding and underrated destinations in Europe. From the rocky, rugged mountains in the North, the astonishing sights of Meteora, and the peak of Mount Olympus to the sunny streets of Thessaloniki and Athens and the endless serpentines of Cretan roads, Greece offers so much in terms of fantastic routes, nature, and culture, that you’re guaranteed to keep coming back for more. Whether you’re setting off on an enduro tour of Greece or a leisurely, all-paved motorcycle tour, expect twists and turns on every mile, awe-inspiring scenery, and millennia-old ruins dotting the Greek countryside. Motorcycle tours in Greece will take you along mountains and gorges, past ancient Orthodox monasteries and antique temples, and across terrain so varied it feels like you’re covering much more than just one country. In addition to excellent motorcycling roads, breathtaking landscapes, and rich history, Greece also boasts mouth-watering cuisine and lavish hospitality. Nowhere else in Europe are the people so friendly, curious, and ready to chat as in Greece, and don’t be surprised to see local riders sharing the roads: Greeks are passionate motorcyclists, so much so that the country hosts the Hellas Rally Raid, the largest Dakar-style rally race in Europe. Unsurprisingly, Greece is emerging as one of the top destinations for off-road riding and training tours in Europe, comparable only with Spain and Portugal. For road riders, motorcycle tours in Greece offer curves, curves, and more curves. From steep, sharp hairpins to gentle sweepers, Greek roads knot themselves in endless twists everywhere you go. And the best part is, most of those twisties are quiet, two-lane regional roads where you can scrape those pegs to your heart’s content.

Greece Motorcycle Tours Highlights

If you’re considering an off-road adventure or a guided motorcycle tour in Greece, plan your itinerary around some of the best locations in the country. Here are some of our favorite ones: Athens All roads may lead to Rome, but Athens is where it all begins. The ancient city of kings and philosophers, Athens remains a metropolis of incredible architecture, quirky Old Town tavernas, and cosmopolitan culture palpable in the very air of the city. Athens is a must-visit on your motorbike trip to Greece, even if you aren’t a history buff: the city offers exciting dining and wining options, vibrant nightlife, and beautiful atmosphere. Meteora Appearing like a surreal scene from Avatar, Meteora is a jaw-dropping site of towering cliffs topped with ancient Orthodox monasteries built into the living rock. A network of six astounding monastery complexes perched atop giant rock spires, Meteora is such a phantasmagoric site you may want to spend a day or two exploring the area: the winding roads curving into big, fast-speed bends here reveal the otherworldly landscape from different angles, and if you have the time, some of the monasteries are open for visitors. Easily one of the most iconic landmarks in Greece, Meteora, situated in the heart of the country, is a must-see site on your motorcycle tour. Thessaloniki The second largest city in the country, Thessaloniki makes it to the itineraries of most motorcycle tours in Greece. Known for its vibrant cultural life, arts, and theatre, Thessaloniki is Greece’s culture capital, and in its heyday during the times of the Byzantine Empire, it was once compared to the might of Constantinople. Today, Thessaloniki is a great pit stop to relax and recharge, soak up the sunny weather of the Aegean Sea, and ride the local twisties enjoying the Greek coastline. Mount Olympus Known as the throne of the Greek gods for centuries, Mount Olympus is Greece’s most beloved mountain. Situated between Thessaly and Macedonia just fifty miles southwest of Thessaloniki, Mount Olympus rises almost 3,000 meters above the sea level and is one of the highest peaks in continental Europe. A majestic sight to behold, Mount Olympus can be viewed straight from the saddle of your motorcycle. If you have the time, however, you can do a half day’s hike to ascend the slopes, or simply enjoy the little villages scattered around the base of the mountain. Most motorcycle tours in Greece will take you past Mount Olympus to showcase the legendary mountain and the scenic areas around it. Delphi An ancient seat of the oracles and demigods on the south-western slope of Mount Parnassus, Delphi is a sacred site boasting impressive ancient ruins and temple sites. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Delphi can be seen from Route 48 as you travel the southern part of Greece on your motorcycle. Island of Crete Probably the most marvelous – and the most undiscovered – motorcycling destination in Europe, island of Crete is a treasure trove for two-wheeled travelers. Being closer to Africa than Europe, Crete enjoys mild, sunny weather year-round, which makes it an ideal location for motorcycle tours in Greece during the winter months. In the summer, Crete is overrun by holidaying tourists crowding its white sand beaches and turquoise – blue water, but from late October to April, the island is virtually deserted and you can have the entire place to yourself. Highly diverse in its landscapes, Crete offers anything and everything a rider could wish for: paved mountain twisties, lonely serpentines skirting deep gorges and olive tree valleys, countless off-road trails shooting in all directions, and spectacular scenery ranging from craggy, rocky hills to sandy beaches, desert-like plateaus, and green slopes of the mountains. Motorcycle tours in Crete are an extraordinary experience providing a glimpse into what it’s like to ride both Europe and Africa in one go.

Practical information for Motorcycle Tours in Greece

Although Greece is a southern country, the best time of year to ride here is May through to September. In winter months, the coastal routes are still drenched in sun and experience warm weather, but the mountains are much colder and see harsher temperatures. If you want to avoid the biggest tourist crowds, plan your Greece motorcycle tour for September or early October; August is the hottest month, especially in the southern part of the country. Greece uses the euro as the official currency, and while the country is fairly inexpensive to travel, accommodation may be pricier than you’d expect. Plan to spend around $70-80 a day for your food, fuel, and hotels, unless that’s included in your motorcycle tour price. It’s also good to always carry some cash in hand – although cards are widely accepted in Greece, cash is king in the more remote, smaller villages. Much like everywhere else in the world, using common sense and keeping an eye on your belongings is wise. However, Greece is a very safe country to travel, and locals are avid motorcyclists themselves, so expect lots of connections and new friends when you’re touring Greece. Depending on the type of riding you plan to do, pick a motorcycle that you’re comfortable with. For motorcycle tours in Greece that focus on paved twisties, cruiser, tourer, and adventure type of motorcycle will work best. For enduro tours and off-road expeditions, choose a small, lightweight dirtbike capable of taking on rocky paths and single track – the Greek terrain is notoriously challenging.

Greece

Greece motorcycle tours

Travelling in Greece is wonderful. Those who have been there will tell you that the combination of historical architecture, picturesque Mediterranean coastal towns, delicious food and wine, and a people who always seem to be smiling and having fun, make for an excellent vacation. Such a destination is made all the more enjoyable on a motorcycle.

Roads and Riding

When people think of Greece they think of islands. But the Greek mainland is a mountainous region. Roads through the mountains are generally good, and can get very twisty, sometimes for the whole riding day, with switchbacks and hairpins. In some remote areas the roads can get a little rough, narrow and winding, and passage may slow. Roads along the Mediterranean coast are usually excellent, curving high above the beautiful coastline. The Greek people are avid motorcyclists. Athens is a big city with some congestion, much of it from fellow motorcyclists.

Climate & Environment, When to Go

Greece has a Mediterranean environment, mild winters and hot, dry summers. Winter is quiet. Then around Easter, Greeks begin setting up for the summer tourist season, which can get crowded. Rooms and vacant stretches of sand are rare in the high summer season. So the best time to ride Greece is from April through June and in September and October, to avoid the traffic and crowds.

Sights, People, Food and Drink

In Greece you can indulge your interest in archeology. Nothing beats riding a stunning mountain valley road when the 4th Century BC Temple of Apollo at Delphi comes into view. The beautiful coastal villages, the subjects of countless travel brochures, really exist, and there is no better way to see and experience them than on a motorcycle. Many cling to the sides of cliffs or slope gently to beautiful promenades along the ocean. The Greek people are some of the friendliest in all of Europe and are extremely accommodating to tourists. They will proudly introduce you to their unique cuisine in their traditional tavernas, an extension of the Greek home table. You'll find the ever-popular moussaka and a variety of meat stews on every menu, along with the well-known Greek appetizers made from fresh Mediterranean ingredients. Each region in Greece has its local wine to be had with your meal.

Advice for Australians traveling abroad

According with Australian government the following advice are to be followed:

Before you go

  • Confirm your passport is valid for 6 months from when you think your trip will end. Don’t get stranded.
  • Get comprehensive travel insurance to cover you and your gear. Get insurance that’s right for you and covers your activities in the places you’ll go. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.
  • Consider your physical and mental health. Get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.
  • See your doctor or travel clinic 8 weeks before you go for a basic health check
  • Check if your medication is legal and available in the places you’re going. Take enough of your prescribed medicines to last the whole trip. Carry copies of your prescription and a letter from your doctor.
  • Tell your bank you’re travelling and check if your cards will work. Have several payment options.
  • If you’ll drive overseas check out the local traffic laws and practices. You’re likely to need an International Driving Permit (IDP) as well as your Australian driver’s license.
  • Share your itinerary with friends or family members. Give them copies of your passport

Travel insurance

Holidays don’t always go as planned. If you’re going overseas, travel insurance is as important as a passport. Without it, you or your family could suffer financially if things go wrong. No matter who you are, where you’re going and what you’re doing, get insurance.

Travel insurance is especially important if you need medical assistance. Healthcare overseas can be very expensive. Most countries won’t give you free care, or subsidies the cost of your care. You, or your insurer, must usually pay full price.

Travel Advice for Australians visiting Southern Europe

Keep your personal belongings close. Lock hotel and train compartment doors from the inside.

Drink spiking is an issue. Don’t accept food, drinks, gum or cigarettes from people you’ve just met.

Dating and marriage scams occur.

Only use ATM’s in banks, shops and shopping centers, especially at night. Always keep your credit card in sight. Be wary of people you’ve met online.

Penalties for drug offences are severe. They can include jail sentences of up to 20 years.

By law, you must always carry photo ID. Keep your passport in a safe place. Carry a photocopy.

It’s illegal to take photos of airports, military sites or other secure locations.

It’s illegal to engage in sex work or have sexual relations with a person under 18.

Same-sex relationships are legal in Romania, but not widely accepted.

Local contacts

The  Australian Consulate in Bucharest  provides limited consular and passport assistance.

You can get full consular help from the  Australian Embassy  in Athens.

What commissions do I have to pay besides your announced prices?

Our prices include the online secure payment commissions. However depending on your bank some commissions may occur for international money transfer. Please check with your bank!

Can the accommodations or the itinerary suffer any changes?

In case we’ll have a full house situation at one of the hotels, an accommodation of an equal classification or better will be booked for you. In case of closed roads due to bad weather, working situations or dangerous weather conditions the itinerary could suffer changes.

How do I get to Adventure Motorcycle Tours meeting point?

Please follow our recommendation on How to arrive (heading found for any of our holidays at the Special notes and info section at the end of the tour page). Our guide will expect you with a Transylvania Live sign. In the unfortunate case of a flight being lost or delayed and prevent you in this way from getting to your meting point in good time, please call 0040 726253 356.

What is “Single Supplement”?

Our tour fares are based on two in one hotel room. For occupancy by one person, the "single supplement" cost specified in each itinerary will be required.

I am travelling alone. Do you arrange shared rooms for individual travelers?

If you travel alone you have to book the tour with a single supplement; if you wish to book a double room which you want to share with another traveler, we’ll do our best to make all arrangements, but in case this is not possible, you’ll have to pay the single supplement; however it is our strongest recommendation to book the tour with a single supplement when travelling alone.

What countries require a visa?

All countries have their own visa requirements, which may change at short notice. However, please check with your local embassy or consulate for the very latest information for your nationality. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have all necessary visas for your travels. Try to obtain your visas before departing from your home country as it’s much easier than abroad.

Greece currency is EURO (written symbol EUR). All the places in Greece trade EURO. You can bring some euro or US dollars and you can change here the amount of money you need (advisable due to the lower exchange rate). Credit cards are accepted in large hotels, restaurants and malls. ATM machines are available at banks, airports and shopping centers all over the country. (except in remote areas or villages). Foreign currencies may be exchanged at banks or authorized exchange offices. International airports and larger hotels also offer currency exchange services. The tour guide is also responsible for helping clients with money exchange; recommend the exchange offices which charge the lowest commission.

Are ATMs available?

ATMs are available in all the cities; near by hotels, our guide will come with good advice and recommendations. MasterCard ATM Locater– Search by address and by airport https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/get-support/find-nearest-atm.html Visa ATM Locator– Search by airport, city and country https://www.visa.com/atmlocator/#(page:home)

Motorcycling Around Greece: 4 Islands that are a Must See

Travel Motorcycle Vehicle Motorbike Bike Road G Reece

(Contributed post)

Greece is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe and is a fantastic place for a holiday any time of the year. The thriving capital city of Athens is home to some of the most important archaeological attractions in the world and ancient monuments such as the Parthenon and Acropolis of Athens, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Ancient Agora are all fascinating places to visit.

As well as the mainland, Greece has hundreds of beautiful islands that are perfect destinations for holidays, especially during the summer months. Greece is also a great destination for motorcycle tours and there are lots of amazing places that you can visit with your motorcycle.

In this article we will take a look at some of the most famous islands that you can enjoy when you take your tour around Greece. There are frequent ferry connections to all the main islands in Greece and the port of Piraeus, which services the city of Athens.

Crete is the largest of all Greek islands and is located in the south east of the Aegean. It is an island that is ideal for visiting any time of the year, and has lots of wonderful places to visit and experience. What makes Crete an ideal place for a motorcycle holiday is the fact that the whole island is connected by one main highway that runs across the northern part of the island.

Crete consists of four main municipalities – Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Lassithi – each of which is home to a range of beautiful villages, coastal resorts and lots of places of natural beauty from dominating mountain ranges and valleys, to forests and isolated plains.

The ferries from Athens will usually arrive in Heraklion, which is the capital of the island, or in Chania. Wherever you arrive, you can head off along the main highway and make as many stops as you want to take in the gorgeous regions. While in Crete, don’t forget to sample some of the delicious local cuisine.

The island of Rhodes is the largest in the group known as the Dodecanese, and is an island filled with history, sights and an impressive coastline. There are frequent ferries to Rhodes from Athens, as well as from other ports in Greece.

You can enjoy some great motorcycle tours of the island, as you travel around the visit the beautiful beach resorts, mountain villages and everything in between. For those who enjoy a flutter, Rhodes is also home to the famous Rodos Kaszino , which is located in the northern part of the island.

Rhodes has a very interesting history and there are lots of great sites and places to stop and visit, such as the famous medieval town, which is a World Heritage Site. The landscape and scenery here make it an ideal destination for a motorcycle holiday, and it’s also a very safe island for travelers, and one that attracts all types of visitors from around the world.

Santorini has to be mentioned on this list, simply because it is easily one of the most famous and beautiful islands in all of Greece. The island has frequent connections by ferry to Athens , and though not as large as Rhodes of Crete, has lots of wonderful places to visit and experience.

The town of Oia in the north of the island is home to some of the most amazing sunsets in the world. It is here that you will find the whitewashed houses, blue domed churches and narrow paths and streets to explore. There are lots of other interesting towns and villages in Santorini such as the capital of Fira, which is a great place to visit, as well as some lovely coastal towns such as Perissa, Emborio and Kamari.

Santorini is famous for many things such as the local cuisine, its wine and of course the famous volcano, which created the truly unique landscape of the island, which is unlike anything else you would have ever experienced.

The island of Evia is not one of the most famous for visitors from abroad, but it is actually an amazing travel location and its size makes it perfect for motorcycle tours. It is actually the second largest island in Greece after Crete, but what makes it that much more special is that you can actually reach it by land. There is a bridge connecting the mainland with the capital town of Chalkida, which is just over an hours drive from Athens.

Evia has lots of stunning places to visit all over the island. The northern part is the most beautiful with dense forests, impressive mountains and gorgeous beaches. The center and southern parts are also full of interesting places to explore and visit. There is a great road infrastructure around the island, making it an ideal place to head to and then start exploring.

Greece is a great destination for travel throughout the year, and for those who are looking for something different for a motorcycle holiday, then Greece has so many wonderful islands and destinations that are perfect for exploring on two wheels. There is good internet access in most locations around the island, so if you need to keep in contact with family or friends at home, check emails, or even jump onto your favorite casino online for a few rounds of poker, you can do so with ease.

I’ve done it, twice.

I have a few recommendations:

1) Use your own bike – don’t hire a bike. The Greek islands depend very heavily on tourism, and you can’t necessarily trust the maintenance and condition of the shiny bikes they have there. Plus, their roads are like an ice-skating rink, because of the olives that fall on them, the constant use and the very hot, dry climate. These roads don’t get washed clean by the rain, so you will be better off with a machine with which you are very familiar. It’s not necessary, but preferable. 2) Have VERY good insurance, before you set out. The only hospitals that are any good are private ones. They are well used to receiving injured holidaymakers and tourers. Look closely at the terms of your medical insurance and make sure you are covered for an extended hospital stay, in the unfortunate event you need one. 3) Have Euros in cash ready for filling stations. Someone comes out of the filling station and fills up your tank. Usually they don’t charge you for a few centimes over a round number in Euros. Some filling stations are much, much cheaper than others – ask local people and they’ll know. Generally, the closer you are to the coast and to resort cities, the cheaper the fuel. Leave a tip because there’s no use for too many loose coins in your pocket. 4) If you’re hiring a bike, choose a lower cc, maybe a 250. Even the main roads aren’t really conducive to higher speeds. Locals sometimes go pretty fast, but, like anywhere else, their ability to do so depends on their local knowledge. And accident rates are high. 5) Bring your gloves, boots, and any other gear before you arrive. 6) The off-roading opportunities are very good (even on some of the “roads”), but make sure you can do it, before you arrive. 7) If you drink the night before, don’t bother riding until late the next day. In any case, load up on caffeine before a ride – there are no negatives and these are demanding roads.
