Daughtry is a North Carolina based rock band headed by 5th season American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry. Adopting sounds from influences like 90s grunge pioneers Pearl Jam as well as alternative-meal acts such as Fuel, Daughtry has developed a style that is nostalgic and heavy hitting.

Daughtry was one of the few American Idol contestants to successfully push hard rock iconoclasm into finalist levels and was also bold enough to jeopardize it to experiment in folk and dance music later on in his career. Despite his recent tendencies to dip his finger in other music genres he has kept true to his principal sound.

Chris Daughtry was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, US, but spent the majority of his childhood in Lasker. When he was 14 he relocated to Palmyra, Virginia with his parents and eventually moved right outside of Greensboro in McLeansville, North Carolina. When Chris was 16 years old he approached music in a more serious manner, focusing on his skills as a singer and seeking out instruction on the guitar. Chris formed several bands in high school and participated in two high school productions: “Peter Pan” and “The Wiz”.

Chris acted as lead singer and rhythm guitarist in his high school band Cadence and produced one album with the group in 1999 entitled “All Eyes on You”. Chris later joined the group Absent Element and released the album “Uprooted” with them in 2005.

A year later Chris was on American Idol. He auditioned in Denver, Colorado with the song “Letter” a cover of Memphis band The Box Tops (this group was headed by Alex Chilton later of Big Star fame). Daughtry instantly caught on with the general public. He was this season’s answer to the rocker craze that predecessors Bo Bice and Constantine Maroulis previously instigated. Daughtry also had the charisma that sailed across America’s TV sets and the family man attitude that many could empathize with. Apart from Daughtry’s personal and social disposition he swept audiences off their feet with his electric and gritty covers. He made many fans after his cover of Fuel’s “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)”, one of them actually being the band who requested that he be their lead singer. Daughtry also performed a rendition of Johnny Cash’s “I Walk the Line” in the style of the group Live. Despite Daughtry’s trailblazing run on the show he lost out to Katharine McPhee, but at least made it to the top 4 before being terminated.

After his departure from American Idol, Daughtry wasted no time in prepping for album production. Daughtry signed with Idol’s 19 Entertainment group and RCA Records and recruited guitarists Jeremy Brady and Josh Steely, bassist Josh Paul, and drummer Joey Barnes as his backing band. His first album was the all caps self-titled debut “DAUGHTRY”. The album was led off with the hit single “It’s Not Over”. “DAUGHTRY” ranked incredibly high on the charts, staying within the Top 10 for months.

Daughtry already had 5 hit songs in the Top 40 before he issued his 2009 follow up album “Leave This Town”. Daughtry’s next album “Break the Spell” was produced by Howard Benson as was his previous releases. “Break the Spell” had some commercial difficulties in comparison to Daughtry’s past albums; however, it’s single, “Crawling Back to You” skyrocketed to No. 6 on the U.S. Adult Pop charts.

On Daughtry’s fourth album “Baptized” Martin Johnson of Boys Like Girls hopped on board to help give the album a more atmospheric and pop oriented touch. The album was released in November 2013, and was spearheaded with the single “Waiting for Superman”.

Live reviews

Really disappointed. With the concert and with the venue. Venue first; O2 Academy Leeds. We had tickets for the balcony which I have been in before so I know that seats are not reserved. It's first come gets the best seats, fair enough. When we got there 30 mins after doors, the whole balcony was full. There is limited standing room down the long sides which was also 2 or 3 deep. The small openings at the bar behind the seating were full of people also. So basically there was nowhere to watch the show from. We eventually perched at the top of the steps with three others, blocking anyone coming and going. Some people gave up and sat on the floor so could see nothing. Totally oversubscribed and really unfair. We didn't rock up 2 minutes before the main act, we were in 20 mins before the support came on and it was rammed. Poor effort O2.

So, the gig. Pretty boring to be fair. I've been looking forward to seeing Daughter for a long time as he is a great vocalist, and tonight his voice was great. But whoever drew up the set list should be taken out and shot. Dreary, slow, boring songs right off the bat and almost all the way through. He sang a couple of his good rockers and that was it, the rest was turgid. And he gave the appearance that he was pretty full of his own importance. It was a self-indulgent hour and a half. I even left before the end as I was bored stiff and there was zero atmosphere up in the balcony. Could have been so much better.

Daughtry, the rock band fronted by its name sake Chris Daughtry have had a gruelling touring schedule since they took to the road shortly after their career began in 2006. In less than a decade they have clocked up nearly five hundred shows yet with every single appearance, the band appears invigorated and intent on beating their own personal best for performing live.

The audience is clearly appreciative of this level of effort as they applaud with force at the finale of every single track. Daughtry shows versatility throughout the evening, swapping the thumping beats for softer strings during an acoustic version of 'Witness' followed by a perfect cover of 'Wicked Game' by Chris Isaak which gives the collective room goosebumps. The guitars are reinstated for 'Waiting for Superman' and 'September' which are played back to back at blistering pace as the band comes together as a whole to really showcase what they can do. The musical ability is a credit to having spent so long on the road as a unit and it has clearly paid off due to the high level of proficiency each member attains along with the loyalty of their fanbase.

Since I do not watch American Idol, I had no idea that the man behind the band Daughtry came from that series. I got into them when I heard “Coming Home” on the radio and just thought they sounded great and he had a great voice. I also thought the production on the song was very good and that the guitar break in the song was wonderful.

I saw him at an outdoor festival with many other bands. They were not the headliner but they were one of the attractions. They played about 70 minutes and did about 15 songs.

He closed with “Coming Home” and dedicated it to his hometown. The band was great musically and sounded very tight. You could tell they had played a long time together.

The crowd was pretty diverse and included many age groups. There also were a lot of young people in the crowd and I am not sure if they were American Idol fans or not, but everyone really enjoyed it and they were one of the highlights of the festival.

They are just a great rock and roll/pop band. And the production you hear on the studio recording still comes through with the live performance.

It was a great show. I've been to every Carolina show he's had However,wasn't too pleased with the event staff thereafter when waiting for a chance to meet him. Kept moving us. Barricaded us. Acted if though we were being disorderly. It was inky 7 to 10 people.Then moved us again. But failed to mention he wasn't going to come out. Waited an HR and a half in 29 degree weather. kinda figured when they cranked up the buses,it was official. As a result, I am sick. Felt it was unprofessional of Daughter to meet the few fans that cared enough to do so. Although not a total loss. Met drummer and one of the guitarist in which were extremely nice and appreciative.

Daughtry at the legendary Ryman Auditorium was fantastic! It was a great mixture of all albums (though, I could have stayed another hour to hear more favorites)! The opening act, Bobby Church, was a pleasant surprise and got the crowd on their feet. Daughtry's band is as charismatic as he is and it's a full group effort. Chris even made my 4 year old feel special by shaking her hand and patting her head. He took the time to make the audience feel a part of the show. This was Daughtry's and my 3rd Nashville show and it won't be my last - hope they'll come back!

Didn't know it was an acoustic show. Only 3 of 6 members were there. He sounded good but we were let down because we were expecting the full band to put on a regular show not an acoustic show. Not necessarily bad for Daughtry I think it's bad for the marketing and advertising of the show. They should advertise it as Daughtry acoustic tour, intimate evening, etc.

Daughtry rocked the Hollywood Amphitheater in St. Louis, and boy was it a hot one!! The Sun was roasting poor Chris but he just kept cranking out the energy. At one point he said he would like to take his sunglasses off but "God's Spotlight" wouldn't let him!! I just love his beautiful soul and if I ever get a chance to see him again I definitely will!!

What an awesome show at the Rocksino. Seats were great and the show was perfect. Love the sit down and improve provided by Daughtry and his two other band members. You can tell he is a perfectionist on making sure his show sounds perfect. Can't wait for the next album. I will definitely go to see him the next time he is in town.

Great show. Sound was a little muffled. He played his old favorites and the new ones were very good. He engaged the audience quite a bit. He is very energetic and his voice is awesome. The light show was good. We enjoyed the show very much. Definitely will see him again.

Concert was awesome. Chris had the audience involved at multiple parts of the show. He included music from all parts of the bands career from current back to 2006. Daughtry as a band puts on an awesome show would definitely pay to go and see a show by them on many occasions.
