In fact, I had to request driver to reduce AC. My kids slept nicely with out any trouble. Kerala is first post-pandemic choice of tourists: Foreign travel agents

KOCHI: Kerala has emerged as the first choice of global tourists amid a COVID-19 slide, as travellers from across continents find the southern Indian state rich and alluring as a cultural experience, according to foreign travel agents at the ongoing Kerala Travel Mart (KTM).

Enquiries about Kerala top among all the destinations about which they have been receiving queries ever since the pandemic started tapering off, reveal the foreign travel agency delegates, who are among the international buyers at the four-day KTM-2022 which began here on Thursday.

As Sagara and Samudrika convention centres in the Willingdon Island set the stage for 55,000 business meets, the foreign delegates said Kerala is invariably the most sought-after destination for those visiting India, a KTM release said here.

Zsolt Jurak, who is owner of World Travel Master KFT in Hungary, said Kerala is "one of the best parts in the whole of India" because of its traditional values, Ayurveda wellness, tasty food and warm people.

"I am glad to see that the event is back after the pandemic and people can travel freely in the state," gushed Jurak, who has been to Kerala "several times earlier" as a tourist.

"At the KTM-2022, I am specifically looking for new possibilities and places, alongside certain unique and extraordinary things," he added at the venue of the event being organised by KTM Society.

Billed as India's biggest tourism event, it will conclude on May 8.

Eunsook Park, an official of Withus Tour in South Korea, said her compatriots, who are interested in pilgrimage, are keen to visit the churches of Kochi.

"Normally, Koreans are interested in pilgrimage programmes and such tour packages. They choose Kerala and Chennai for pilgrimage packages, especially the Catholic pilgrimage package to visit Kochi," she pointed out.

"Its natural beauty makes Kerala an apt place to relax," adds Park, who has been busy with promoting the state's latest travel products such as caravan tourism.

According to Alexandra Nazimek, owner of Planet Escape, Poland, the serenity of Kerala's tourism destinations gets enhanced by their cultural ambience, making the state especially attractive for foreign tourists.

"Tourists from all around the globe, especially from Europe, prefer Kerala as their favourite destination. There are still more places for tourists to explore here and experience," she added.

KTM-2022 is being attended by delegates from 69 countries and has buyers from 25 states within the country.

Last year, the KTM had organised a virtual summit in March, facilitating more than 7,000 business meets that enabled the travel industry to take major strides in overcoming the COVID-triggered economic crisis.

That online event saw a virtual buyers' meet with participants from across the world, including India.

Aimed at revitalising the Kerala tourism industry, the state government is gearing up to launch 'Mission 2030,' in 2024. Tourism Minister Mr P. A. Mohamed Riyas spoke about the master plan at a seminar on tourism held as part of Keraleeyam, a fest showcasing the achievements of Kerala in various fields. He said that the master plan will carry policies and suggestions on matters including increasing the contribution of tourism to the state's GDP from the current 12% to 20%. The major focus of Kerala Tourism in 2024 will be leveraging private investment on a larger scale, the minister said. “Rapid decentralisation in the tourism sector is crucial for the state to reap the benefits from tourism. The Tourism Investors’ Meet is a key step in that direction which will also serve as a venue for discussing new ideas and opportunities with investors,” he said. “We have to increase private investments in the tourism sector where the co-operative sector and individuals can also partner with the government. The Glass Bridge at Vagamon is an example of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model; still we are yet to fully utilise the potential of PPP models,” he added. Heli Tourism and Cruise Tourism will be developed in partnership with private players next year. The renovated 132-year-old Feroke Bridge across Chaliyar River will be dedicated in 2024. Work on another bridge at Aluva will commence in 2024. All these projects are being implemented with the co-operation of public and private sectors, Mr Riyas said.  “The innovative ‘Kerala Model’ of tourism development has set an exemplar for the entire world on account of its emphasis on sustainability and inclusivity,” he said. Mr Riyas also hailed the contributions of the Kerala Travel Mart Society (KTM) and other stakeholders to the sector, and the globally-acknowledged activities of the State Responsible Tourism Mission (RTM). Tourism Secretary Mr Biju K. said that the tourism sector contributes 10 percent of the state's GDP, and the total employment generation in this sector is about Rs 15 lakhs.

Kerala's first private train service from June 4: Details

Kozhikode: The first ever private train service from Kerala will start on June 4 from Thiruvananthapuram. The service intended for the tourists will be operated by SRMPR Global Railways Private Limited in association with Princy World Travels Private Limited, as part of the Indian Railways' Bharat Gaurav Yatra project. "Under this private partnership in collaboration with Indian Railways', the SRMPR has hired a train from the Railways to run tourist services from Kerala. The train, staff and other facilities will be provided by the SRMPR while services like ticketing and marketing are being done by Princy Travels,'' said Devika Menon, Director of Princy World Travels. 

The train will conduct services to Mumbai, Goa and Ayodhya. The first trip is to Goa. The pre-booked passengers can board the train from stations like Trivandrum, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargode. The train, which can carry up to 750 passengers at a time, includes  2 sleeper class bogies, 11 third class AC coaches and 2 second class AC coaches. 60 staff, including medical experts, also will be on duty. Food, wi-fi facility, and a GPS tracking system will be provided. Star hotel accommodation, food and sightseeing will be part of the tour package. 

For a 4-day Goa trip in the non-AC sleeper, a traveller has to pay Rs. 13,999. If it is 3 tier AC the amount is Rs 15,150 and for 2 tier AC, the amount is Rs 16,400.   For the Mumbai trip, the amount is Rs 15,050, Rs 16,920 and Rs 18,825 respectively. For 8 day Ayodhya trip the rate is -  Rs 30,550, Rs 33,850 and Rs 37,150. The trip covers temples and pilgrimage destinations in Ayodhya, Varanasi and Prayagraj. Kids under 10 years, The tickets are free for children upto five years. For children between five and ten years, half the price of an adult's ticket will have to be paid.
