They can effortlessly create multiple outfits by creating a capsule wardrobe to mix and match cruise outfits. Factor in the cruise activities , events, and cruise ship dress codes , and don’t forget to check the climate at your port destinations.

Cruise Wear for Men

I love shopping for my husband’s clothes—it’s more fun and easier than shopping for myself, which he appreciates given his hectic schedule. Right before our trips, shopping for cruise clothes is an enjoyable ritual for him, often adding new items to his wardrobe before we go.

StitchFix has been a game-changer, creating a versatile capsule wardrobe for various occasions. Despite using the service, we still enjoy picking up additional pieces to complete his cruise attire because dressing for work isn’t the same as dressing for a cruise! He’s my playful “StitchFix model.”

Cruise Clothes for Men for Daytime Activities

  • For casual daytime activities like poolside relaxation or ship exploration, choose comfy and breathable options: shorts, tees, polos, sandals, or sneakers.
  • Opt for athletic wear, such as shorts and a moisture-wicking tee, for activities like rock climbing or zip-lining.
  • Dress comfortably and respectfully for port visits, adjusting to the destination. In the Caribbean, wear swimwear and light clothing. In the Mediterranean, opt for pants or jeans with a polo shirt.
  • For visiting European churches, cover your knees and shoulders—no shorts or tank tops.
  • In hot weather, lighter colors keep you cool under the sun.
  • Always check the dress code for restaurants or lounges you plan to visit during the day.

T-shirts are a must-have in your cruise clothes for men’s ensembles—versatile, comfortable, and suitable for any occasion. Pack 4-5, including basic plain ones and those with fun graphics, but avoid anything offensive. Consider bringing shirts that are dry-quick

They pair well with swimwear, shorts, jeans, khakis, and linen pants. For a dressier dinner look, a high-quality t-shirt can be combined with a button-down shirt, blazer, or jacket for a stylish vibe.

Include 1-2 plain dark-colored T-shirts for versatility. My brother opts for multi-pack cotton shirts, keeping things easy and functional for his travels—it works for him.

Fun Cruise T-Shirts for Men

speedo on cruise ship

For a hot and sunny destination, include shorts in your men’s cruise wardrobe—they’re comfortable, practical, and ideal for staying cool in the heat.

When selecting shorts, consider the length and fit. Cargo or quick-drying shorts offer a casual look for a day out in port, while linen or golf shorts can be dressed up for a more formal appearance.

speedo on cruise ship

Create a laid-back daytime look by pairing your shorts with a comfortable t-shirt or polo shirt. For a chic appearance, dress them up with a button-down shirt.

My husband loves his cargo shorts for their comfort and casual style, plus the convenient pockets for small items. Quick-drying shorts are another favorite—they can double as swimwear if the occasion arises. You never know!

speedo on cruise ship

Sea days revolve around the lido deck and pool, while port days are for beach and water activities if in the Caribbean. Pack swimwear even for an Alaskan cruise —you might find a hot tub and indoor pool or be surprised by warm sunny days.

By the pool, my husband goes for swim shorts and a T-shirt. Beach-hopping in the Caribbean means swim shorts and an SPF swim tee for swimming and sunbathing. His favorite is an Amazon Essentials Swim Tee , that we’ve purchased him in multiple colors, and they’ve lasted for years.

Comfortable Footwear

speedo on cruise ship

Comfortable footwear is a crucial part of your cruise wardrobe, considering the amount of walking around the cruise ship and in port.

Flip-flops are great for pool or beach days. Just be mindful of walking in them. Crocs and Keens are popular choices among cruisers.

Certain sneakers may be acceptable for dinner on non-formal nights in the main dining room. My husband vouches for the Adidas Cloudfoam sneakers as the most comfortable ever, and I had to get my own pair—now I’m obsessed!

Pack a hat to shield your head and face from the sun, and consider one that covers your neck to prevent sunburn (learned this the hard way once—it wasn’t pretty).

Don’t forget to slather on sunscreen for added protection.

Men’s Cruise Outfits for Evening Activities

  • We suggest more than just a swimsuit as evening approaches, even in a freestyle setting.
  • For men’s cruise attire, my husband’s decades-old advice stands strong: jeans and a polo shirt. It’s collared, casual yet not too formal—a practical and timeless choice for ship activities.
  • On casual nights, go for a sharp pair of jeans or pants, a basic top, and some dressy sneakers or shoes. Aim for smart casual, and you’re good to go.

Jeans and Pants

speedo on cruise ship

Opt for breathable cotton jeans and wrinkle-resistant chinos for cruise ship evenings. Jeans are versatile for multiple wear, while chinos can be dressed up or down—pair them with a button-down and blazer for a chic night.

My husband swears by his travel pants—super comfy and suitable for various occasions. They’ve become a staple in his cruise attire.

Polos and Button-Down Shirts

speedo on cruise ship

Level up from a t-shirt with a polo or button-down shirt—it instantly elevates your outfit.

With various fits, colors, and fabrics available, opt for breathable and comfortable materials to avoid feeling itchy and sweaty. Choosing a collared shirt doesn’t mean you should be ready to take it off at any moment.

speedo on cruise ship

A linen button-down is a nice piece to add to your men’s cruise wear, as it’s light to wear, and you don’t have to worry about it being overly wrinkled.

Since you’re on a cruise vacation, bring 1-2 Hawaiian shirts that scream vacation time.

speedo on cruise ship

Bring a hoodie, light jacket, or rain jacket for added comfort. Whether cruising the Caribbean or Mexican Riviera, nights on the ship can get chilly and windy outside. Always be prepared for unexpected rain.

Men’s Formal Chic Night Cruise Wear

kathy and her husband dressed up for cruise formal night

What do men wear on cruises for formal nights?

The days of formal nights when men used to dress up in tuxedos no longer exist, at least not on mainstream cruise lines. The guidelines have been relaxed, and it’s now more of a night where they ask that you dress up – a chic night. You have to be slightly more polished than usual.

You can mix and match for chic nights with these ideas:

  • A pair of chinos, a long-sleeved or short-sleeved button-down collared shirt, a belt, nice shoes, and an optional tie.
  • A dressy sweater , chinos, belt, and nice shoes.
  • A blazer, sportscoat , or nice button-down cardigan sweater with chinos, a button-down or polo shirt, and nice shoes.
  • A blazer or a sportscoat is an article of clothing that every man should have in their closet. It’s one item that easily transforms your casual look into a dressier one.
  • A suit with a button-down collared shirt, belt, nice shoes, and an optional tie.
  • On some cruises, a classic pair of jeans can pass as chic; make sure they are not distressed. Darker colored jeans work best.

Dressy Sweater, Blazer or Sports Coat

speedo on cruise ship

A dressy sweater, blazer, or sports coat goes well with a nice pair of pants for a chic night.

Paired with Chinos, Dress Pants, or Dark Jeans

speedo on cruise ship

A pair of chinos or dressy pants, and sometimes, even a pair of nice dark jeans, will work well for a chic night. Just pair it with a nice shirt, blazer, or a dressy sweater (if the jacket is required). You don’t want to wear jeans if it’s a full-on formal night on the cruise.

Button Downs or Polo Shirts

speedo on cruise ship

Button-downs can be as dressy and as casual as you want them to be. They are versatile and can be worn more than once during the cruise. You are set for a chic night once you pair this with a blazer and nice pants.

The Optional Suit

speedo on cruise ship

A nice suit covers you well for a formal or chic night. It’s an option if you want to pack it with you. Wear it with a tie, button down, or no tie, and even a polo shirt.

Dress Shoes

Pack dress shoes or even dressy sneakers to complete your men’s cruise outfits for chic or elegant evening nights on the cruise.

While adding another pair of shoes for limited wear can be frustrating, the enjoyment of dining at main and specialty restaurants makes it worthwhile. With NCL, there’s no need to worry about specific shoes for evening chic.

Accessories

  • Nice Belt : Start with a stylish belt as a chic accessory.
  • Classic Watch: Add a classic watch for a touch of sophistication.
  • Subtle Cufflinks: Consider subtle cufflinks to enhance the refined look.
  • Sophisticated Pocket Square: Complete the ensemble with a sophisticated pocket square.
  • A tie: Include a tie to elevate the outfit.
  • Coordinate Colors and Style: Ensure accessories complement your outfit’s overall color scheme and style for a polished appearance.

Men’s Cruise Packing List

The exact quantities will depend on your personal preferences, activities planned, and whether you plan to do laundry during the cruise. However, here’s a suggested quantity for a 7-day cruise:

  • (5-7) T-shirts
  • (2) Button Downs
  • (3) Polo Shirts
  • (2) Swim trunks
  • (1-2) Chinos/Dressy Pants
  • (1-2) Jeans
  • (1-2 pairs) Gym Clothes
  • (1) Suit or Blazer (if planning a formal or chic night)
  • Underwear and socks – Enough for each day, plus 1-2 extra days just in case
  • (1) Light jacket, sweater or hoodie
  • (1) Rain jacket or windbreaker
  • (1) Hat with brim
  • (1) Sunglasses
  • (1 pair) Comfortable walking shoes/sneakers
  • (1 pair) Dress shoes (if planning formal or chic nights)
  • (1 pair) Flip Flops / Sandals

AcCessories

  • Tie (optional)
  • Cufflinks (if needed for formal night)
  • Pocket Square (if needed for suit or blazer)

Miscellaneous

  • Travel documents (passport, cruise documents, ID)
  • Travel-sized Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
  • Medications – As needed
  • Travel-sized laundry detergent
  • Power strip/adapter
  • Reusable Water Bottle
  • Camera/phone and chargers, including portable charger
  • Travel Backpack
  • Snorkel Gear
  • Reading material (book or Kindle)

Feel free to adjust these quantities based on your specific needs and preferences. Keep in mind if you plan to reuse some items or if you plan to do laundry throughout the cruise.

Tips for Packing Men’s Cruise Wardrobe Efficiently

man stuffing clothes into suitcase

  • Pack versatile pieces in complementary colors that can be mixed and matched to create different outfits. You want to create a capsule wardrobe. This can help you save space in your luggage and ensure that you have enough clothing options without overpacking.
  • Learn to roll or fold your clothes to save space.
  • Buy compression packing cubes .
  • Check the weather forecast for your itinerary and pack accordingly. Bring lightweight clothing for warmer climates and layering pieces for cooler temperatures.
  • Bring comfortable shoes for walking and exploring in port and dress shoes for formal dining nights.
  • Don’t forget swimwear (we have done this): Pack swim trunks or board shorts for pool and beach days.
  • Pack accessories: belt, ties, watch…etc.
  • Pack clothing that meets the dress code for each venue on board, including casual, smart casual, and formal attire.
  • Bring laundry detergent sheets to wash some items yourself in the cabin and consider your other options: Do they have laundry on the ship? (Princess, Carnival, and Disney cruise ships sometimes do) Are there mid-week specials for laundry? Sometimes, the cruise has a special promotion.
  • Don’t forget to add wrinkle-release spray to your packing list. It will come in handy.

Cruise Attire for Men: FAQs

male cruise passenger wearing a polo shirt on a cruise

How much clothing should I pack for a cruise?

As a general rule, you should plan to bring enough clothing to last for the duration of your cruise and include a few extra items in case of unexpected events or changes in weather. Of course, you should also consider whether you can do laundry.

Do you have to dress up every night on a cruise?

Dressing up every night on a cruise isn’t necessary. Most cruise lines have varying dress codes, allowing casual attire during the day and a more casual or “smart casual” look in the evening. Save the swim trunks for the daytime and wear nice pants at night.

Do you bring a suit on a cruise?

Bringing a suite on a cruise is optional. Dress codes on cruises vary by line and occasion. Mainstream cruise lines have shifted from formal to chic nights, permitting chinos, a button-down shirt, and dress shoes. Check your cruise line’s specific dress codes before packing.

What do men wear on a cruise for dinner?

Wear casual daytime cruise attire for buffet dinner—shorts and a t-shirt. If dining in the main or specialty restaurant, switch to long pants and a nice shirt based on the dress code policy.

Are jeans okay on a cruise?

YES. You can wear jeans on a cruise. We suggest leaning towards darker-colored jeans with no rips or holes in them.

Can I wear shorts to dinner on a cruise?

Men’s shorts are typically not permitted in main dining or specialty restaurants. If worn, you may be turned away and asked to change. Some exceptions may apply, such as on the first or last day of the cruise.

Is it okay if men wear Speedo on a cruise ship pool?

The acceptability of men wearing Speedos in a cruise ship pool depends on the specific cruise line’s dress code and policies. Some may restrict revealing swimwear, while others have more relaxed rules. If allowed, be mindful of fellow passengers, especially around children, and respect their comfort levels.

We hope this guide for packing men’s cruise outfits helps with your cruise attire.

i prefer carnival lines as my favorite ship, as i have been on 25 cruises, and probably half of them have been on carnival lines, but it has been ten years since i have been on a cruise.   didn't wear speedos then, but after many injuries from hockey, my sports medicine doctor suggested i swim for recovery and found out speedos are so much comfortable for swimming versus board shorts.   i would like those of you that have been on cruise lines with the most men wearing speedos on them if carnival or other ships to send me a message to which they are. thank you plt

I'm very grateful to say that on my 19 cruises on 4 cruise lines very few men wore speedos. Most men look better nude than in a speedo but if a person doesn't care about such things then..... Main difference between nude and the speedo is the presence of some scapes of fabric that primarilly just make the fat pucker.

I say, free to be you and me! If you feel like wearing a Speedo, go for it!

As far as swimming for exercise, some of the Princess ships (Crown, Caribbean, et al) have a "water treadmill" which shoots a jet stream of water into the pool and you swim against that. I believe they're located in the Lotus Pool which is the forward most pool on board.

P&O Ventura has an endless pool in the spa area, free to all.

Try Atlantis. . You'll see the most men wearing speedos on them.

i will have to try the atlantis soon. i have over two dozen speedos. most are bright colors. a lot of them i wear for special holidays, like i have kelly green , black with kelly trim for st. patricks day. i have bright orange for halloween and for breast awarement for this month i have a hot pink, pink leopard, tie die with pink in it and a multi stripe pink, purple, red & coral.

i will be wearing them tonight and tomorrow at the casino pool in palm springs. i also have bright red, royal, leopard , gold and metallic gold.

i agree most men don't wear speedos, other than the ones you mentioned on atlantis and in europe it is the norm!

i guess i am not like most men, as when i told a friend in the service i like to be different, he said we all know you are different!

thanks for the tips. plt ps just ordered a flag embroided board short from lands end and a palm pink seersucker suit as well , both 9 inch.

Forget the speedo wear a mankini and yes they come in other colors

love the color, as i love festive colors, i will wear a mankini as long as you wear one with me! i am 6 ft 1, bald, hairy chest and 210 pounds.

plt ps i am 65,swtill playing ice hockey with guys 60-80.

I saw three guys in speedos on the Carnival Liberty last month. I was very glad I caught a glimpse of these fellas! I lucked out because they really did rock the speedo!:p

did everyone else, that being guys of course, were they wearing board shorts? well if you remember them, seeing you said they rock the speedos, i am assuming they weren't your basic black, nothing wrong with black, but the festive colors probably the reason they rock the speedos! plt

Those aren't the only two options.......You could also try standard swim trunks if you don't want to wear a Speedo.   However, if you want to wear a Speedo, I don't think anyone will stop you ;)

Another deep sigh and thank you!!!! :D

I thought they were called man thongs........:p:D
I guess you would call me a fox trot as imlove manhattans with makers mart plt

My Mom would have loved you! :) She loved her Manhattans!

6andy6

There have been many on EVERY cruise I've taken! Most shouldn't be wearing them in public!

Why? Hurt you sensibilities. I'm sure they are not worried.

Lets face it..there are far more woman shoving their cottage cheese wobbling behinds in to tight or one size too small pant suits and other such contraptions than I see men wearing speedos.

But I'm sure you won't complain about woman wearing bikinis.......or do you expect them to wear a kaftan or a muumuu?

IEBear

Any cruise with lots of Europeans to sunny destinations avoid Spring cruises to Alaska since still too cold for sunbathing. Most I've seen on RCCL to Mexican Rivera, but far fewer than trip to Rio or Deutchland in summer.:D

I have a pair of board shorts that are made by Speedo. They do make other swimwear that are not banana hammocks.

3,000+ Club

Amazon just delivered my new Speedo boards. I waited too long; all trunks had been sold out in local stores.

So much I would like to say but I think i better stick to a safer thread.........mankini:confused::D:eek:

sft429

Wear 'em if you got 'em, but one cruise image burned forever into my memory is of the man whose speedo disappeared from view when he sat down.

Point made from poster above.....LOL!:D

dolittle

Wow there is a Speedo thread from 2012 that I am not on (must have been on a cruise) I once started a serious(no really) thread about this type of swimwear and after some impertinent remarks from some Aussies it was yanked by the mods.I do find the whole subject to be a funny culture difference between the U.S. and everyone else in the western world. Just to show you there is nothing new under the sun, Fifty years ago on beaches in New Jersey my two brothers and I (and every one else)would go into stiches every time we saw a man in a speedo and my father would say ''ask him what part of Canada he is from'' My point on the thread was do they ever go out of style(please) and can we get some new kind of trade deal with the E.U. and others and get you guys some real bathing suits. Please

Just have to comment how things are so different around the world. Where we live in that in Finland swimming shorts are considered dirty as they have mo fabric and folds in them where sweat and dirt can accumulate if not washed really throrough after every use. Therefore men are not aloud to use them in swimminghalls and pools, instead they must use speedos.

Now as i think of the cruiseshippools i feel disgusted to think that many men use their shorts in them.

Isnt it funny how things can be viewed so differently :p

First post ever....

I have been on several cruise lines, but recently went on a Costa ship. They definitely have the most men in speedos. Some men looked good and some didn't. I think speedos are nice if you have a good body. On this cruise, there were several men that could "rock the speedo" as said in prior posts.

One day I went to lay out on deck and saw the smallest speedo I have ever seen. I was alone with my mom and made an excuse about where to move our chairs so that we could get closer to where he was laying.

I even snuck a pic in when he went to the shower on deck. If you look good, I say where what you want! They certainly do on Costa.

What Not to Wear on a Cruise; Rules and Guidelines

what not to wear on a cruise

Sharing is caring!

We often talk about cruise line dress codes and what to pack for a cruise , but have you ever wondered what not to wear on a cruise?

While each cruise line does have it’s own dress code and vibe, there are some items of clothing that are universally frowned upon and best avoided.

In this post, I’ll share the rules , guidelines and etiquette around what to what not to wear on a cruise ship. None of this is meant with personal judgment, however since you asked…

Don’t Wear This on a Cruise – Cruise Fashion Mistakes to Avoid

speedo on cruise ship

Flip flops and sleeveless shirts in restaurants

While most cruises are pretty casual during the day and by the pool, there is a dress code in the main dining room and restaurants. Even on casual dress nights, there are some things you shouldn’t wear.

This includes beach flip flops and sleeveless shirts (for men), cut-off jeans, gym shorts and swim trunks. While some cruise lines allow “nice” shorts on casual evenings, other cruise lines, like Celebrity, have a strict no shorts rule .

Pajamas, slippers & robes

Don’t wear pajamas, robes and slippers in the buffet or restaurants, or around the ship for that matter. If you’re at the spa, a robe might pass. However, otherwise keep your sleepwear for your cabin.

Tiny speedos and thongs

There’s no official rule on this, but probably best to avoid tiny speedos, thongs and teeny weeny bikinis on family cruise lines. Don’t forget to bring a cover up on a cruise.

what not to wear on a cruise vacation

Going topless

While going topless or nude on a cruise isn’t exactly a fashion mistake, it just isn’t done on most cruise lines (especially American ones).

Unless you’re on a nude cruise, you actually have to wear a bathing suit on a cruise. Contrary to the old days, there’s no topless sundeck on cruise ships.

Heely’s and footwear with wheels

While Heely’s or rollerblades can be worn in cruise ports, they aren’t permitted on cruise ships for safety reasons.

Baseball caps in the dining room

Most cruise lines don’t allow baseball caps in the main dining room and restaurants in the evening. While this can be a hotly debated topic, if you want to follow cruise line dress codes and etiquette, best to keep the baseball cap for the buffet or poolside grill.

Swimwear (when not on the Lido)

Bathing suits are for the Lido deck, and not inside the cruise ship. Always put on a cover up or a T-shirt and shirts over a bathing suit. Footwear must always be worn in cruise ship restaurants and buffets, shops, elevators and hallways.

what not to wear on a cruise - uncomfortable shoes

Uncomfortable shoes

Don’t wear uncomfortable shoes. There’s no rule against this, but you and I both know you’ll regret it. Try on any new shoes at home and walk in them at least 30 minutes.

Camouflage clothing (some cruise ports)

There’s no issue with wearing some stylish camouflage shorts or a top on your cruise, however wearing camouflage is actually illegal in certain cruise ports of call. Yes, wearing camouflage is one of the things never to do on a cruise stopping in Jamaica, Antigua or St. Lucia, as well as other Caribbean islands.

Cruise Dress Codes – Frequently Asked Questions

Can i not dress up on “formal night”.

There’s no obligation to participate in your cruise’s formal night. In fact, these days most cruise line formal nights are much more relaxed.

Observing the cruise line dress codes or suggestions for elegant or dressy nights are encouraged. However, there’s no need to be dressed to the nines anymore.

That said, if you don’t want to dress up at all, you can definitely skip formal night and head to the buffet or to an alternative casual restaurant.

Nowadays, there’s a cruise line to suit every cruiser’s preference and taste. When booking a cruise , be sure to check out the cruise line dress code and make it’s the experience you want.

As an example, Norwegian Cruise Line is freestyle and has a fun, relaxed dress code. Cunard is quite opposite. The dress code is formal and traditional, and you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to a bygone era. Then, there’s a wide range of great cruises offering an experience somewhere in between.

10 cruise fashion mistakes not to make

Can you wear jeans on a cruise?

Most cruise lines allow wearing clean, nice jeans in the main dining room and restaurants for casual and smart casual evenings. Jeans aren’t appropriate for nights where a formal dress code is in place.

However, always check with your cruise line as dress codes are changing . As an example, clean dress jeans paired with a blouse, dress shirt or blazer are acceptable on Celebrity’s Chic night .

Final Thoughts: What Not to Wear on a Cruise

Here’s a recap of the main points we went over in this post. Cruise lines have rules and guidelines about what you cannot wear on a cruise ship. In some cases these rules are strictly enforced. However in other cases enforcing dress code rules is left to the discretion of dining room staff.

Did any of the things not to wear on a cruise surprise you? When it comes to cruise line dress codes, and do your prefer more formal or more casual cruises? Please let me know in the comments below.

Who wears Speedo's on their cruise?

Yeah I know:D I made the same kind of mistake once when we lived in Italy for the summer of 1980. I read that one piece bathing suits were what people wore. Staying in the Italian resort, we went to the beach and I found out the one piece was the Bottom of a bikini and for men a speedo. Better for the DD age 4 I guess than the nude beach next to the resort:o If you think a cruise ship has some ugly around the pool try an European resort of the cheaper variety.

Anybody want to join the "I don't look in mirrors and you can't make me! Society"?

Covered up genitals, package, overweight body, belly rolls, whatever..if you don't have it, don't wear a bathing suit that shows it off..man or woman. If you do, you forfeit the right to complain at people who make fun of you and look at you so you'd better have a thick skin!

It's not about the body per se but about the "package" that most people are objecting to being on display. I agree that body type is not the issue but no one wants to look at the rest especially on an older man where gravity has kicked in- yuk!   Doesn't matter if you are in great shape or not!

But you never know what "package" you're looking at! Many years ago while on vacation around many European men who wore speedos, I had lunch at a very casual beachside restuarant. A man in a speedo came in, sat down a few tables from me and proceeded to dig around in his mouth. I assume he was removing a retainer or partial.

Anyway, he removed his dental piece and wrapped it in a napkin. About that time I was thinking "Boy, I hope he doesn't accidently throw that away." And that's when he shoved his napkin wrapped "package" right down the front of his speedo !

Guess those speedos don't have pockets :p

Personally I like men in Speedos - I think it looks much better than the big baggy shorts. Cheers.
You obviously did not see Speedo Man strutting around on my cruise on Ruby Princess last year!! Arrogant, tanned, elderly, flabby and nauseating! All the women at our table kept an eye out for him and alerted the others on areas on deck to avoid, where he had been spotted. :D

You know, that's really rude that they did that..what did they think he was, a serial killer or the boston strangler risen from the dead..or maybe a rapist even..or a chlid molester perhaps??

So what if he said hello or whatever..you can still be kind to the person and not pay any attention. If you don't like what he looks like, then look the other way. Period.

Thank you Gathina for being kind!

With all the really mean comments here about fat rolls, flab, "packages", weight, and age, it's a wonder any of us dare to wear a bathing suit in front of such critical and no doubt perfect-looking fellow cruisers.

Don't be so hasty to judge, some have even made fun of themselves.;) Also, did you read Gathina's previous post? She as well as others are commenting about SPEEDOS which are generally considered to be the skimpy man version. As far as "packages" we are talking about a certain part of a man's anatomy that we just don't care to see the outline of no matter what kind of body it's attached to......good or bad.

I am talking about the others here judging those who are overweight, or elderly, or hairy or whatever they are complaining about.

Read some of the judging:

"Arrogant, tanned, elderly, flabby and nauseating!"

"If you think a cruise ship has some ugly around the pool try an European resort of the cheaper variety."

Etc.... etc...

People judge others by how they look..it's a fact of life..you do too.

Some people just speak it out loud instaed of not saying anything.

I think it's personally rude for what they are doing to speedo guy mentioned..running away? warning others? he didn't do anything wrong. Years ago a very "colorful" older man resembling Richard Simmons hit on me in a bar..did I think he was dressed odd and eccentric? Yes. Did I run away screaming? No. I politely spoke to him then excused myself and went about my business. I didn't run screaming to others to avoid him. He did nothing wrong. He was comfortable with who he was and what he wore.

My comments about others wearing things that are not flattering to them: I would not say anything like that to anyone's face. The majority of people wouldn't. It takes courage to wear a two piece if it's ill fitting or more revealing than what I would wear. If they like it, fine. If I don't, I'll look the other way or keep my comments to myself.

I have a habit of looking through old topics that I havent seen yet, and im sorry if I bring this topic back up to front. Since I know how most of you cant stand it..:D. Anyhow, Im a fan of Speedos to which ive been wearing them since my early 20s, and still today. Im a 48 yo male, to most of you consider one "of those types" that fall into the middle age group that most "dont like to see" in a Speedo. Attatched are a couple pics taken of me a few weeks ago (July 2011) while at lake near my home. You be the judge..LOL. I guess I cant be that bad, considering ive worn them on every cruise and every public beach and i havent seen myself filmed on the internet yet (for sarcastic reasons). Isnt that the reason why people take pics of other strangers in Speedos, because they dont look good wearing them? particularly older?.

You look very fit. I'm sure you are proud of your physique and in board shorts you'd look handsome. Sorry, speedos...IMHO are tragic and should only be worn by competitive swimmers, just before jumping in the pool!:)

Try Orient Beach - nude beaches don't mean bathing beauties. The image of the 300+ pound guy in a thong is forever burned in my memory!

Fit or not - still not a good look.

CULTURAL people....popular all over South America and Europe..nobody seems to care if people look good in them or not.

I think we should start a thread on "two piece bathing suits and the women who wear them and have no business wearing them" LOLOLOL!!

True...;). Im just voicing my opinion for the "male" gender. When it comes to fasion, us guys dont have any choices... It seems that our legs have to be covered almost completly, or were considered gross, or a prude, or whatever. When you see womens swimwear, besides the ones with the "skirt/ one peice" every single one has a "brief style" bottom that only cover the butt area and leaves the full leg and thighs exposed just like a Speedo. And every size, age, and body type of women wear these. But its totally acceptable. But a guy has to cover up, just because some people or women dont want to see even the slightest outline of his bits. My opinon on that.. Dont look down. When you talk to a guy in a speedo, you look hin in the face for a conversation not his crotch. When i talk to a women, I have but no choice but to see part of her breast, which is up near her face and its a "bulge" just like in a Speedo, except there allot bigger and theres 2 of them.. So.... Whats the differance.. Now.. I like to look at women, dont get me wrong, I only said that as a example.. Now If I asked this same question or topic on a gay or european message board, I would be getting a completly differnt answer., Because that is the way that people in this country (USA) think.... I have problems with what anyboday wears around a pool. It dosnt bother me. Im just saying my opinion and thoughts. Were all on vacation and to have a good time, so do I.

As a competitive swimmer who trains 20 hours a week, the only bathing suit I would ever wear around a pool is a Speedo or Arena style suit. I can't imagine trying to swim with those baggy shorts that many posters on this board suggest men wear because they can't stand the look of the "kibbles and bits.". I guess it is what you feel comfortable in. In addition, the baggy shorts are not good for laying in the sun. I am not afraid to walk around the pool deck of a cruise ship in front of women wearing a Speedo bathing suit. I am sure many of them are gawking, staring, snickering, pointing, laughing or even imagining, but I take it as a compliment and just keep walking.

I can make suggestions on buying the brief type swim wear that covers up the "bulge" that the cruisers are complaining about. Purchase a suit that has a pattern over the "bulge." This will hide the hugeness or in some cases the smallness. Stay with a darker color.

True, there are some males and females who would look better wearing a different style of bathing suit than a skimpy Speedo or bikini but you know whatever they wear it is not worth getting grossed out about. Why let it ruin your fun?

Trust me, it dosent bother me one bit.. Im just voicing my opinion on the "polictically correct" society we have now. Im not ashamed of my body at all. If I only had a time machine, I would go back to the 70s and 80s when that type of swimwear was more popular. What makes me laugth, is all the guys in bordies that trys to roll up the legs to his crotch while sunning himself, If he had on a Speedo, he wouldnt have that problem.:D

Another Hint.. All you guys that likes to use the hot tub, and there always crowded.. Put on a Speedo, Your garanteed to empty it quick! And i have no fat or body hair to scare people away with. That is a example of how our culture is. They think the guy in a Speedo has some kind of desease or somthing.

The only problem with speedo-style men's bikini suits are that those who could wear them nicely DON'T and those who really should not wear them DO.

When I was younger, I looked fine and wore them. Now...not a chance. Get a traditional above-the-knee bathing suit and call it a day. You may end up as a dinner table companion of someone who felt you over-shared.

Most Americans (and also Canadians) don't think that men should wear Speedo's. However, I think that if you've got the body, then by all means you should/can wear it. That being said, you've certainly got the body for a Speedo. Many women wear bikinis when they really shouldn't. If I still had the body today, that I had 30 years ago, I would certainly also wear one. While I think that my size 10 body is not right for a bikini, my husband thinks it is. Do what pleases you, and as your know, you see all styles of swimwear on a cruise/vacation destination pool or beach!

I love seeing a man in a speedo. It helps me decide faster whether or not to buy him a drink.

Too funny, Coka... That's about all they're good for.:D

You woulnt be dissapointed if you saw me... LOL.

Ah yes...Speedos...they were very popular in the 60's 70's and then guys started wearing the baggy short type of swim suits.

In my book, marble bags...is just another way to call those tight speedos. However, some guys look great and others, well, I just remove my glasses for distance and voila! One big blurr.

Cruising NYC/Bermuda 10/30/2011 - NCL The Gem...yahooo. And yes, my speedo is packed...be warned...remove your eye glasses.

I am probably in the minority, but I don't really mind seeing men in speedos, even if they shouldn't be wearing them. Maybe because I lived in Europe as a kid? Got used to seeing that kind of thing over there, Americans are just more uptight.

When it's bad, it's very entertaining, and when it's good, lordy mamma! A good reason to wear sunglasses & don't get caught looking !!! :D:cool:

I agree there are plenty of women who should not wear bikini's but do anyways. I am plus sized and will *never* wear a bikini in public.......you're welcome!!!! :p

Hi sjbdtz...nice HRC logo! (Human Rights Campaign). I wear a hat and have a sticker on my car bumper as well. Many folks have asked what branch of the military...LOL. Now we can ask and tell...huh? Sailing 10/30/2011 NYC/Bermuda with my partner and hoping to make amd meet new freinds. Thanks all!!!

  1. cruise line with most men in speedos

23.6k. October 3, 2000. Western Pa. #14. Posted October 10, 2012 (edited) With the exception of Costa and MSC, lines that cater to Europeans more than North Americans, I've not seen many men wearing Speedos. Unlike CBatsea, in my 68 cruises, I could count on one hand the number of Speedo suits I've seen on each ship.

  2. Can you wear a Speedo on a cruise ship?

The answer to this question is yes, you can definitely wear a Speedo on a cruise ship. Cruise ships are known for their relaxed attire, and swimwear is a common sight around the pool areas. However, it's important to be mindful of the specific dress codes for different areas of the ship. While Speedos are generally acceptable around the pool ...

  3. Speedos on Cruise Ships

The different types of swim trunks are also a lot more appealing and less offensive than the speedos you may be used to seeing on cruise ships. And believe it or not, swim trunks are the most popular type of swimwear for men. Medium length and longer "board short" styles are available in a wide variety of patterns and colors.

  4. Cruise Wear for Men Guide: Packing Tips and List

The acceptability of men wearing Speedos in a cruise ship pool depends on the specific cruise line's dress code and policies. Some may restrict revealing swimwear, while others have more relaxed rules. If allowed, be mindful of fellow passengers, especially around children, and respect their comfort levels.

  5. Speedo on a Cruise Experience

In November 2022, I went on a cruise to the Bahamas and Coco Cay on Royal Caribbean. On February 2023, I went on a cruise with MSC to their private island in the Bahamas. I was not sure if I should wear my speedos, but I figured I would since it's all I wear now. I had no issues on the ship, on the beach at their private island, or in Nassau.

  6. 10 Things You're Not Supposed to Wear on a Cruise

    1. Baseball caps and gym shorts in the dining room. Even on the more casual cruise lines, there is proper clothing etiquette that must be adhered to for dinner. After all, it is a dining room, not ...

  7. Speedos, yes or no?

Kansas City, MO. #1. Posted March 9, 2009. So my girlfriend and I are about to go on our first cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy leaving March 21st and I'm debating whether or not to wear a speedo. Seeing as how most American men wear swim trunks instead of speedos, I'm just trying to figure out if I would look too out of place wearing one.

  8. Can you wear Speedo on a cruise?

One question that frequently comes up is whether it is acceptable for men to wear a Speedo on a cruise. The answer is yes, it is generally acceptable for men to wear Speedos at a cruise ship pool, as long as the cruise ship's dress code allows for swimwear.

  9. cruise line with most men in speedos

You'll see the most men wearing speedos on them. i will have to try the atlantis soon. i have over two dozen speedos. most are bright colors. a lot of them i wear for special holidays, like i have kelly green , black with kelly trim for st. patricks day. i have bright orange for ...

  10. To Speedo or not to Speedo

We also see the men mainly on European cruises or someimes here in FL wearing a speedo and you can't see it because it is trapped between the layers of fat of the stomach and their legs. Not a pretty picture. We feel the same way with women - some wear a bikini that they outgrew of 20 years ago.

  11. Swim Dress Code

Posted August 5, 2019. For cruises in North America Royal is a family oriented cruise line. Revealing swimwear will likely be called out and frowned upon. Cruises in Europe may follow different trends. I'm over the Speedo limit. As Johnny Carson said, "If you look down and can't see your Speedo, you're over the Speedo limit".

  12. Speedo on cruise? : r/Cruise

Go with what you are comfortable with. It may be more comfortable to wear the speedo on an excursion and trunks on the ship. Either way, wear what you are comfortable with. If 250+ pound women can wear bikinis then men can wear speedos. I wore a bikini for the first time in 20 years on a cruise this year.

  13. What Not to Wear on a Cruise; Rules and Guidelines

Bathing suits are for the Lido deck, and not inside the cruise ship. Always put on a cover up or a T-shirt and shirts over a bathing suit. Footwear must always be worn in cruise ship restaurants and buffets, shops, elevators and hallways. Tip - Make sure you bring comfortable shoes on a cruise.

I feel bad for guys who like speedos. You can't win. They draw attention so you can't just be a faceless unnoticed guy swimming. If you're fit, people say "ugh, he thinks he's like a super model and he's not even that great!". If you're average or Dad bod, the comments are even meaner.

  20. What color speedos should I wear?

BUT, on my last cruise there was a much older man, with a very large beer gut, who was wearing one and from the front everyone thought he was naked because his gut fell below the "pouch" of the speedo.
