When visiting Cleveland, Tennessee, you will find plenty of fun, exciting, free activities to keep you and your family busy. From a trip to the museum to exploring the beautiful downtown area, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The Museum Center at 5ive Points is a Smithsonian Affiliate in Cleveland, Tennessee. It is a historical museum that exhibits local history and artifacts of the Ocoee region. Located in historic downtown Cleveland, the museum offers creative programming and displays of local history. Guests can explore the history of the Ocoee and the adventures of the people who came to the area.
In addition to the permanent exhibit, the center hosts five to six changing exhibits per year. It also features a museum store and cultural center, which can be rented for private events. Some items for sale include arts and crafts made by local craftspeople. Located in a prime location for parking, the museum is easy to get to and offers free parking.
Fletcher Park is a historic site in Cleveland, Tennessee. The 70-acre park is located within a short drive of downtown Cleveland. The park offers visitors an array of activities. One of the most notable features of the park is the outdoor amphitheater. Free concerts take place on Saturday nights.
The park has a Japanese garden and walking paths. In addition, it has basketball courts. Visitors can also enjoy tennis and picnic tables. There are several playgrounds, as well. As a result, Fletcher Park has become a popular destination in Cleveland.
Another feature of the park is the springhouse. This structure was built in the 1820s and once belonged to Cherokee Chief John Ross. It was moved to Cleveland to the park in 1999.
The Cleveland Greenway is a four-mile-long walking path in Cleveland, Tennessee. It is a part of the Greenway Network, a group of public walking paths in Bradley County, Tennessee. The local Greenway Advisory Board maintains this trail. In addition to its trail, the Cleveland Greenway also connects to the Downtown Greenway Connector, a paved trail that weaves through downtown Cleveland.
The Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway is a joint venture between two counties. It is a 4.2-mile-long paved trail that runs from the north end of Cleveland to the south end. Along the way, the trail crosses five different waterways. Each of these crossings has a short pedestrian bridge. There are also several underpasses. Eventually, the trail will reach the Hiwassee River in Charleston.
Chilhowee Mountain Overlook is a great way to get an impressive view of the surrounding mountains. The overlook is located on US 64 near Cleveland, Tennessee. There are several viewpoints on the mountain. It is a 7-mile drive up the mountain.
There are also several nearby attractions to explore. Adventures Unlimited is a locally owned recreation campus with an outfitter, gift shop, and a Mexican restaurant. They also offer whitewater rafting trips. For lunch or dinner, Myrtle’s Cafe offers tasty treats.
Another fun place to see is the Ocoee River Overlook. This is a well-maintained destination with plenty of parking. You can see the Ocoee River and the surrounding mountain vistas.
Located in the Cherokee National Forest, Benton Falls is a 65-foot waterfall. A trail leads to the falls, though it is short.
Hiwassee River Heritage Center , located in Charleston, Tennessee, is a history museum dedicated to the region’s rich history. Founded in 2013, the center is operated by the Charleston-Calhoun-Hiwassee Historical Society. In addition to local history, the center also tells stories of the Civil War and the Cherokee removal.
The Hiwassee River Heritage Center is a National Historic Trail interpretive site. It is certified by the National Park Service.
The center includes an exhibit hall, a library, and a trail that provides visitors with information about the area’s history. In addition, visitors can record their photos and documents at the center.
There are many community-minded donors to the Hiwassee River Heritage Center. In addition, the organization has a hand-picked partner program to ensure that the center is an authentic representation of the region’s history.

With 625,000 acres of unspoiled natural beauty, the Cherokee National Forest is a fabulous Tennessee vacation spot that offers dozens of exciting and relaxing recreational opportunities. Among many activities enjoyed by thousands each year are camping, hiking, picnicking, hunting, fishing, swimming and boating on Parksville Lake. The forest’s Scenic Byway, the first scenic byway designated in the nation, winds along Parksville Lake and the Ocoee River. Mountaintops overlooking the Chilhowee recreational area provide breathtaking scenes. There are parking fees in some areas.
