CTS Tours - China Travel Service ( NZ) Limited: Reviews

Positive experience: popular tour operator

Fantastic experience: Love a bargain, these are people. No quality compromised!

Fantastic experience: Had a great time on China - Discovery Tour. Tour guides national and local were amazing. Really enjoyed Billy's sense of humour. Loved the genuinely friendly nature of the Chinese people. Shanghai night boat cruise and climbing the Great wall were standouts. Going to the night shows on offer is most worthwhile. Accommodation and food were of a very high standard. Glad I went as it was exceptional value for money and the experience was amazing. Much achieved in a short time. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Join their tour to Japan. Very good package with only $3000 per perosn, the return flights included also. I would recommend to my friends and family. I have comparated many products to Japan before we go, CTS Tours offers the best price which attracts me. I was worried about the quality in the begining. However, the experience proves me wrong, it is absolutely out of my expect! The tour is well arranged, no too tight or too slow, we also have free days which gives us opportunity to explore ourselves. I could say it is one of my best family travel. Will absolutely recommend to others.

Not Just Singapore: 4 Other Ultra-Long-Haul Routes From New York JFK

  • JFK serves as a major hub connecting passengers globally.
  • JFK has various ultra-long-haul flights over 16 hours to 6 continents.
  • Destinations from JFK include Auckland, Manila, Guangzhou, & HK.

New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is one of the largest airports in the world. In 2023, 144 million passengers traveled through the airport, a 4% increase from pre-pandemic levels and a new record for the airport. It serves as a gateway to the continental US for millions of people and a major airport for Americans to travel to the rest of the world. More than 90 airlines operate at the airport, connecting passengers to all six inhabited continents worldwide.

The airport is also home to many long-haul routes, but a few are considered ultra-long ones. For a route to be considered ultra-long-haul, it has to be at least 16 hours of flight time. One of the most popular flights in this category is to Singapore Changi Airport, which serves as a hub to greater Asia and Oceania. However, Singapore isn’t the only ultra-long haul flight from JFK. According to Cirium , an aviation analytics company, there are four more destinations this May:

Auckland, New Zealand

Operated by air new zealand.

Air New Zealand (NZ) began direct non-stop flights from Auckland Airport (AKL) to JFK on September 17th, 2022. The flight is 8,813 miles long as the crow flies and takes just under 16 hours. The return flight from JFK takes one hour more due to headwinds from high-altitude jet streams.

NZ operates its Boeing 787-9 on the route, which flies thrice a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The aircraft has 275 seats, though many are categorized as unavailable due to weight limitations. Each flight requires four pilots and multiple cabin crew members, all working shifts to stay within duty times.

Cirium data shows the airline will offer 6,000 seats and 58.16 million available seat miles (ASMs) for May. However, as previously stated, not all are utilized, meaning the actual numbers are lower than the estimates.

Operated by Qantas Airlines

Qantas Airlines (QF) began flights to Auckland Airport (AKL) from JFK in June 2023 as part of its Project Sunrise initiative. QF directly competes with AZ and takes a bite out of the monopoly that AZ enjoyed. QF prepared for the route for nearly two years, including revamping the Qantas International Lounge in AKL.

Like its main competitor, Qantas uses the 787-9 Dreamliner for the route, which it flies four times a week. The aircraft is configured to offer passengers a premium experience.

The Dreamliner has 42 lie-flat seats in business class, 28 recliners in premium economy, and 166 seats in the economy cabin. To add flair, business class passengers will receive themed sleepwear and amenity kits, while all passengers will be treated to meals inspired by New York City.

QF’s aircraft have less seating capacity than AZ’s. However, it operates six more flights in each direction than its competitor, allowing the airline to offer 8,496 seats and 74.87 million ASMs.

Manila, Philippines

Operated by philippine airlines.

Philippine Airlines (PR) directly flies from Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) to JFK and back. Due to westerly sub-tropical jet stream winds, the flight takes under 16 hours to reach JFK and 17 hours to return to MNL.

The airline offers twice-weekly roundtrip flights and utilizes the Airbus A350-900. The aircraft has 30 business class seats, 24 premium economy class seats, and 241 economy class seats. The flight covers a distance of 8,513 miles. In May, PR will offer a total of 27 flights, and 8,260 seats as well as 74.87 million ASM.

There are no other direct competitors for the direct flight. However, many airlines fly in the opposite direction and have layovers in the Middle East and Europe on the way to JFK.

Guangzhou, China

Operated by china southern airlines.

Being one of the ten largest airlines in the world, China Southern is the only airline that operates a non-stop flight from JFK to its home base in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN). The flight is the shortest on the list and is 8,000 miles long. The route was restarted in December 2023 after it was closed due to the pandemic. According to China Southern , it operates one flight per week with the following schedule:

  • Every Thursday at 19:00EST (CZ699) from CAN to JFK.
  • Every Saturday at 00:45EST (CZ600) from JFK to CAN.

The airline uses the Boeing 777-30ER for the flight, which offers 360 available seats per flight. The Boeing is in a four-class configuration with 4 flatbed first class seats, 34 flatbed business class seats, 44 premium economy seats, and 227 standard economy seats. The flights take around 16 hours, but the airline usually follows the westerly jet stream, which results in slightly lower flight times—they average around 15 hours and 30 minutes. The airline offers passengers 1,800 seats each way a month and 14.4 million ASMs.

Hong Kong, China

Operated by cathay pacific.

Cathay Pacific (CX) operates 91 flights from HKG to JFK and another 91 on the way back, the most on the list by a long shot. It operates three daily flights on the route and primarily uses the Airbus A350-1000. The aircraft has three classes: 46 angled flatbed business class seats, 32 recliner premium economy class seats, and 256 standard economy class seats for a total of 334 seats.

The airline returned the Boeing 777-300ER to service on the route at the end of January 2024. The premium-heavy aircraft has six angled flatbed first class seats, 53 flatbed business class seats, 34 premium economy seats, and 201 economy class seats. The airline offers roughly 55,120 and 444.81 million ASMs in May.

Health's 'back office' crucial to modern healthcare

15 May 2024

Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences , Health and medicine , Science and technology

Opinion: Our health system problems don’t stop at the front line – New Zealand would do well to invest in the power of remote and digital techniques, says Peter Davis

Patient being seen by a team of doctors, online and on a laptop

The Government has made much of the need to keep frontline services fully functioning, even when costs might be trimmed in the so-called ‘back office’. Nowhere would this seem more central than in health where doctors, nurses and other personnel are key to service delivery.

And yet the ability of those personnel to do their work – and their chances of raising productivity in a service-heavy system – lies in that back office. When I was elected to the Auckland DHB in 2019 it was soon evident that essential IT infrastructure was fraying and this was hampering the work of clinical staff.

At one of our earliest meetings a senior member of the management team mentioned that the country’s immunisation register was “on its last legs”. It became apparent from other IT infrastructure that practically all IT systems were beyond their use-by date and no longer supported by the original vendor. A patient administration system had been planned for years and was yet to be implemented, with much ward work still paper-based. Much staff time was spent on IT workarounds.

Within a year, the pandemic had shifted everything, with changes being made in 10 months that might otherwise have taken 10 years. Money for IT infrastructure was available; the system was in touch with patients virtually, and much care was provided via telehealth; outpatient visits were trimmed to the essential core; and staff came to regard digital, virtual, online, and remote contact with patients, and with each other, as a “new normal”.

With the passing of the peak of the pandemic the system has to a degree returned to the earlier business model, but in the meantime, digital, virtual, online and remote methods have advanced and artificial intelligence techniques are increasingly being developed and applied.

A recent report from Australia’s Productivity Commission – on which our recently disestablished equivalent was modelled – lays out the potential: use of electronic health records could reduce hospital stay; up to 30 percent of tasks could be automated by digital technology and AI; telehealth, digital therapeutics and remote monitoring could save patients hours of travel time (20 percent of consultations are now remote); virtual wards and virtual ED facilities have been trialled; some providers of advice and care have moved completely to online access (although this has to be regulated).

New Zealand has had difficulty in facing up to key infrastructure investment decisions, the most recent and most spectacularly politicised being community water services. The health system also requires investment, but not necessarily – or only – ‘bricks and mortar’.

In the United Kingdom a research collaboration is exploring a ‘remote by default‘ model in 11 general practices and drawing lessons as to how this might or might not work for both practitioners and patients, that in the context of a wider digital telephony plan for booking, logging symptoms, and quick decisions.

Another survey shows clinical staff are particularly keen on videoconferencing to speak to colleagues and ambient voice technology (technology that records the patient-physician conversation and converts that into clinical progress notes using generative AI). Digitising diagnostic services is also potentially a big advance.New Zealand is also making plans, particularly for primary and community care with advances in telehealth, relying more on team-based care than just the GP, and triaging and other access tools for urgent and after-hours care.

With an ageing society, large-scale migration, technological advances and rising public expectations, expenditure on health care is bound to rise, although this depends on the political context (with percent GDP Crown health expenditure peaking in the late 2000s and declining to 2018 – a significant reduction in real terms within a decade).Yes, we need more health personnel – for example, 45 percent of family doctors are due to retire in the next 10 years – but we also need to look at their efficiency. New Zealand, unlike the United Kingdom, has no measure of health system productivity (adjusted for quality).

Many staffing ratios were established in a pre-digital era, and it is more than possible that digital, virtual, remote and online sources, together with AI advances, could reduce the amount of administration and paperwork, increase the quality and quantity of patient contact and care – and reduce the number of personnel required.

There are potential downsides we need to consider: How do we ensure continuity of care in family practice? How do we protect against a digital divide in the patient community? What online providers should we accept? Which of the online therapeutic programmes – such as in mental health –work, and under what conditions? How do we protect patient privacy and quality of contact? How do we keep ‘the human in the loop’ for AI systems? How do we reimburse fairly across online, remote, virtual, and in-person interactions? How do we ensure that when the ‘hands-on’ care takes place in, for example, surgery, the various interactions line up and contribute safely and satisfactorily to the outcome?

New Zealand has had difficulty in facing up to key infrastructure investment decisions, the most recent and most spectacularly politicised being community water services. The health system also requires investment, but not necessarily – or only – ‘bricks and mortar’. As the OECD has recently emphasised, the power of investment in remote and digital techniques in health care beckons.
