RTE host and comedian Tommy Tiernan

One of Ireland's biggest and best-loved comics, Navan native Tommy Tiernan , has announced a slew of new dates for his latest stand-up tour.

Tiernan is set to hit the road as part of his new Tommedian comedy show, which will see him perform in venues across the country.

The RTE star has now added three extra dates at Dublin's Vicar Street as part of the tour, along with shows in Donegal, Monaghan, Waterford, Louth, Kilkenny and Carlow.

The new tour dates will follow hot on the heels of an impressive 14-night residency at Dublin's Vicar Street later this year, as well as previously announced gigs for 2024 across Northern Ireland, the UK and Scotland.

Tommedian is described as "a fun-fuelled trip through the comic imagination of one of the best comedians in the world. This is a wild, uninhibited and fiercely physical display of stand-up. A madcap parade of characters, memories and ridiculous flights of fancy. Theatrical, poetical and slightly unhinged."

The upcoming tour will see the expert RTÉ interviewer, comedian and Derry Girls star bring his own unique brand of humour and wit to audiences across the nation.

Tickets for the new dates go on sale tomorrow (Thursday April 18) from www.ticketmaster.ie and local venues.

Legendary Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan is going back on tour with a staggering 24 dates across Ireland, including two dates in Galway and a total of five in Connacht.

Tomfoolery is said to be a “a high energy mix of outrageous idea’s and whimsical flights of fancy.”

The comic has been mostly seen on TV these days - with his The Tommy Tiernan Show conquering ratings on RTÉ. His Live at the Apollo show hit primetime on BBC and his turn as Gerry on Derry Girls has only cemented his reputation abroad.

Tiernan has been a pillar of Irish comedy since the mid-90s. His ‘Tommy Tiernan Live’, ‘Cracked’ and ‘Loose’ are DVD bestsellers in this country.

His new tour “Tomfoolery” is highly anticipated and to keep up with demand the tour has 24 dates in Ireland.

The spread of the tour dates is commendable - Tommy’s schedule show one serious commitment to bringing his tour country-wide.

There are five dates in Connacht with the first two shows of the tour taking place at The Royal in Castlebar, Mayo (Feb. 11 and 12) and one in Carrick-on-Shannon, Leitrim (March 3 and 4). However, the biggest dates out west are in Salthill at Leisureland. TommyTiernan plays two shows in Salthill on February 24 and 25.

Tomfoolery will visit 11 counties in total, very literally covering the four corners with dates in Donegal, Antrim, Kerry and Wexford. The tour then concludes with three dates in his TV home of Derry at the Millenium Forum on May 26-28.

Tickets for Tommy Tiernan’s Tomfoolery go on sale on December 1 at 10am.

Guests with Cavan links on Tommy Tiernan finale

The season finale of The Tommy Tiernan Show had a distinctly Cavan feel to it, with several of the guests with familial links to the Breffni County.

London born comedian and actor Roisin Conaty was first up last Saturday, taking about what it was like being raised in London to Irish parents.

Her father was an Aer Lingus employee from Virginia, while Conaty’s mum was a nurse from Dromcolliher, Co Limerick.

She grew up in Camden with her younger sister, Siobhan, and spent her summers in Ireland.

“Growing up in Camden in the ‘80s, I never spent one single school holiday in London.

The second the bell went, it was straight out and dumped into a field in Cork.

“My mum was from a family of 12 sisters and one brother. A lot of women… and none of them quiet.

They inspired me.

They were very glamorous, loud, very funny Irish women.”

She also spoke of the tenderness she has towards her parents, who split at a time when it was “unusual for Irish people to divorce in London”, and of her “really, really close” relationship with her mother.

The show’s final guest was weightlifter Thammy Nguyen, who with her brother and Olympic badminton player Nhat, grew up in Belturbet.

“When I talk about my younger life I get really emotionally upset,” said Thammy, who first moved to Ireland with her father from Vietnam, leaving her mother and brother behind.

“I’m crying already because I actually don’t talk about my past. I didn’t have money, English, friends, no family… so it was just a sad time.”

The family was reunited in Ireland around three years later.

Thammy went on to say that her greatest fear was not qualifying for the Olympics. Now she has accepted she won’t qualify she is no longer fearful.

“I’m still here. I have no fear now,” said the 27-year-old entrepreneur.

She was the first Irish weightlifter to win a senior medal at the European Weightlifting Championships.

Tommy Tiernan Show recap: Roisin Conaty on growing up as Irish in London

Tommy Tiernan Show recap: Roisin Conaty on growing up as Irish in London

Tommy Tiernan Show with Roisin Conaty

Comedian and actor Roisin Conaty spoke on the season finale of the Tommy Tiernan Show about what it was like growing up in London as the daughter of Irish parents and painted a larger-than-life portrait of her “really funny” mum.

“Growing up in Camden in the ‘80s, I never spent one single school holiday in London. The second the bell went, it was straight out and dumped into a field in Cork.

“My mum was from a family of 12 sisters and one brother. A lot of women… and none of them quiet. They inspired me. They were very glamourous, loud, very funny Irish women.”

While Conaty’s dad had a very dry sense of humour, her mum is “mad funny, you just don’t know what will come out of her mouth”.

The comedian spoke about her “really, really close” relationship with her mother.

“We speak 10 times a day. It’s always been that way.”

And she spoke of the tenderness she feels towards her parents who split up at a time when it was “unusual for Irish people to divorce in London”.

Tiernan wondered if there’s “a part of” Conaty that loves taking care of people.

“Yeah…making people laugh, you’re taking the emotional temperature of the room, and can I fix it is definitely a thing,” Conaty said.

Tiernan was also joined by musician Mik Pyro who opened up about being shy.

“Yeah, I’m very shy. Not as bad as I get older. I’ve found certain ways around it. Might not be much healthy ways. I’m deeply shy. I also love talking to people, but still I find it hard to make eye contact as you can probably see.”

Pyro said his father had similar social anxiety and recalled how “freaked out” he’d be going into a shop.

“He was terrified of the world but he ran a company that had 200 employees,” he said of his dad.

The show’s final guest was weightlifter Thammy Nguyen, who became very emotional while speaking to Tiernan about her early life in Ireland after she arrived here as a six-year-old with her dad, having left her mother and brother back in Vietnam.

“When I talk about my younger life I get really emotionally upset….I’m crying already because I actually don’t talk about my past. I didn’t have money, English, friends, no family… so it was just a sad time.”

Telling Tiernan that she is tough and she likes achieving goals, Nguyen spoke about how her biggest fear was not qualifying for the Olympics. Now she has accepted that she won’t qualify – and is no longer fearful.

“I’m still here. I have no fear now,” she said.

Familiar face returns to RTÉ as Tommy Tiernan’s replacement confirmed

tommy tiernan tour 2024 ireland

A familiar face is returning to RTÉ as The Tommy Tiernan Show’s replacement was confirmed by the national broadcaster.

Saturday night saw Tommy finish the eighth season of his talk show, which sees him interviewing guests without any prior knowledge to who will be sitting across from him.

Today's top videos

Story continues below.

The finale of the Irish comic’s popular show, saw him meet comedian Róisín Conaty, musician Mik Pyro and weightlifter Thammy Nguyen.

RTE Tommy Tiernan

Over the course of the season Tommy interviewed the likes of Irish football legend Shay Given, The Chase’s Bradley Walsh and fellow comic Deirdre O’Kane .

With RTÉ One’s 9.40pm slot opening up for the summer, Pat Shortt will be premiering his brand-new music show on Saturday, April 29 at 9.15pm.

Joined by Stockton’s Wing frontman Mike Hanrahan, Songs of Ireland will see Pat traveling across the country to hear the sounds of the nation.

Deirdre O'Kane

Shining a light on Irish music, musicians and culture, the show will also see Pat and Mike learning about the history behind some of Ireland’s biggest tunes.

Once they get to grips with the sound and lore of the songs, Pat and Mike will show off their own musical talents in pubs all over the country.

Airing for just over an hour, once Songs of Ireland concludes, viewers will be treated to a showing of Bridget Jones’ Diary at 10.20pm.

Patt Shortt

Considering the recent confirmation of the franchise’s fourth film Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, now is the perfect time to become obsessed with the Renée Zellweger phenomenon.

Meanwhile, it appears that RTÉ will be entering the summer TV season without a weekend talk show for the first time in several years.

With no word about the potential return of Angela Scanlon’s Ask Me Anything, it’s likely viewers will have to make do with the final weeks of Patrick Kielty’s first Late Late Show season.

Keep It Tight: Deirdre O’Kane and Emma Doran combine brazen charm with disarming realness

Podcast review: when o’kane and doran go off on one, they’re a streak of laughs, but they land punches too.

Keep It Tight features the comedians Deirdre O'Kane and Emma Doran

Deirdre O’Kane is having a moment. It’s not her first, and pray God it won’t be her last, but it’s definitely a moment, and from my perch squarely in the demographic sweet spot of her target audience, I’m here for it. She’s in the midst of a squillion-date Irish tour that motors on into the early months of 2025. She recently sat opposite Tommy Tiernan on his TV show, where she pulled off both a gold suit and a frank take on sexism in comedy, and was among the star-studded cast of Prime Video’s Last One Laughing Ireland . Small wonder there’s a podcast in the mix now too.

But O’Kane is not alone here, and that’s the joy of it. In Keep it Tight , her newest audio endeavour produced with panache under the HeadStuff umbrella, she’s joined by having-her-own-moment-thank-you Emma Doran . The premise is nothing ground-shattering: two comedians roam free over whatever terrain they choose. Follow at your leisure, or your peril: these two don’t care either way.

[  Last One Laughing Ireland: Behind the scenes with Graham Norton and Aisling Bea on the new Irish comedy show  ]

The whole shebang kicked off in February, not long after Last One Laughing Ireland finished its six-episode run, and they’ve been on a roll since, throwing out weekly episodes where they wax comedic on topics personal, political and philosophical with lashings of where-would-you-be-going? and a fair dose of cop-on-to-yourself. The two are obviously friends: their comfort with each other is largely a delight, and lends the whole thing a winning intimacy, as if you really are on the inside of a small, wheeze-laughing circle.

Topics covered over the weeks have included vaginal numbness, the mechanics of mammograms, shushers at singsongs, the perils of pencil skirts, why men are so fond of walking a few steps ahead of women, and the death of OJ Simpson . When O’Kane and Doran go off on one together, as they are wont, they’re a streak of snort laughs, but they’re landing a punch within the punchlines too.

Take That in Dublin review: ‘Whose idea was it to have stairs?’ puffs Gary Barlow as the band roll back the years with dazzling show

Take those pencil skirts: Doran gets animated about the particular generation of Irish women who were expected to join the workforce, clean the home and mind the children, and for their pains were offered reality-TV shows such as How to Look Good Naked and Ten Years Younger. “She doesn’t need f***ing veneers,” says Doran bluntly. “She needs equal pay!” “Veneers!” counters O’Kane. “Would you give the poor woman a bit of time off!” If you didn’t laugh, etc.

What’s endearing about these two is their frank and often brazen charm, a disarming realness that can easily carry you through an entertaining half-hour or so of two women whose laughter is infectious and who make you feel as if you’re in on the joke. Unstructured two-handers are a tried and tired format: you can’t swing an earphone jack without hitting a two-mates podcast these days. To make it work you’ve got to be very funny or very well produced, both of which apply here, though the shorter episodes work better than the more rambling fiftysomething-minuters. Keep it tight, ladies, and you might be on to a winner.

2024 The CJ Cup Byron Nelson Monday qualifier: Dates, locations, field and who got through

The 2024 The CJ Cup Byron Nelson is the ninth PGA Tour event of the calendar year to offer a Monday qualifier.

The third tournament in the Texas Swing is an an open event and allocates four spots in the field to players who earn their way in through a Monday qualifier. The tournament, which features an $9.5 million purse, is played Thursday through Sunday.

Monday qualifiers are tournaments held on Mondays (although a rare few are not), and they feature a field of typically around 80 players that are looking to get into that week's PGA Tour event. The tournaments are 18-hole affairs typically put on by the local PGA of America section nearest to the tournament host. Eligibility is not limited to professionals, as amateurs with a USGA handicap index under 2.0 may play as well.

For the 2024 The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the Northern Texas section of the PGA of America presents the tournament. The Monday qualifier is played April 29, 2024, at Tierra Verde Golf Course in Arlington, Texas, and the field of 109 players was finalized on April 26 at 5 p.m. local time.

Before the Monday qualifier, there were pre-qualifiers, which is common. This tournament creates a pathway to the Monday qualifier for players who have limited or no status with the PGA Tour and, frankly, raises entry fees.

For this Monday qualifier, the field is filled with players with limited PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour status.

The top four finishers from the Monday qualifier will gain entry to the 2024 The CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The last Monday qualifier to win on the PGA Tour is Corey Conners , who won the 2019 Valero Texas Open after Monday qualifying.
