Manual

Can I use the AirMini as my full-time machine?

AirMini is cleared by the FDA for use in the home setting, using innovations like ActiveAir, HumidX, and the connected AirMini App to maintain therapy quality as compared to larger CPAP machines. If you have more questions about whether a particular CPAP machine is right for your needs, contact your healthcare provider.

Does AirMini have a battery?

No, the AirMini does not have a battery. It must be plugged into power to operate. The AirMini is compatible with a DC converter, which allows you to operate your AirMini from a cigarette lighter socket (12V or 24V DC power source) in a car, boat, or other vehicle equipped with a suitable battery.

Does the AirMini offer different therapy modes?

AirMini offers three unique therapy modes: CPAP, AutoSet (with Response option) and AutoSet for Her.

Do I need a prescription to purchase a ResMed AirMini?

Yes, you need a valid prescription to purchase the AirMini. If you don't already have one, don't worry - we can help. After you place your order, we will connect you with our third-party independent network of board-certified sleep providers for a complimentary consultation to obtain your prescription.

What is automatic positive air pressure?

Automatic positive air pressure (APAP) therapy is an alternative to traditional CPAP. APAP machines automatically adjust pressure levels based on your breathing patterns during the night, as opposed to CPAP machines that maintain airflow at a fixed pressure setting. Many people find APAP more comfortable for breathing due to its more flexible delivery.

Customer Reviews

The best price for Resmed air mini! Delivered on time!

Compact, easy to use, and effective, it's my latest travel companion. The entire kit literally takes up less than half the amount of space of my Airsense 10. I travel/camp on my motorcycle, so the AirMini's small size is a huge advantage. I use a F20 full-face mask along with the ResMed HumidX™ F20 Waterless Humidifier Cartridges, which are on the expensive side. But the size advantage far out-weighs the slight added cost of the cartridges. Since the Airsense 10 is essentially silent, the slight whooshing sound from the AirMini setup took a night to get used to. Now, I don't even notice it. I highly recommend this device if size, weight, and ease of use are important to you.

One of the issues with this travel pap is it is made to ONLY use a ResMed mask. I cannot use any ResMed masks. I have tested many paps and masks and the only mask that I can use is made by Fisher Paykel. Are department explained this to many patients and recommended they just take the regular pap.

It's compact but fully functional. Easy to set up and the app is informative. After a couple of nights on it I'm happy but I still need to learn how to ramp up the pressure quicker. It starts and stays at 5 cm H2O too long which is not quite enough for me. I definitely need to add a heat and moisture exchanger because I get moisture in the tubing. I hope it lasts for a few years of intermittent use.

I’ve been wanting a travel Cpap for a while but didn’t want to go back to sleep clinic for yet another test. Y’all made easy n quick. My machine is relatively quiet but certain Cpap mask are more noisy than others. I’ve found my happy middle.

Travel CPAP solutions: Do you need a travel CPAP machine?

Travel CPAP solutions exist for a variety of travel needs, and generally don’t require the use of special travel CPAP machines. We understand that this is a concern for many people using sleep apnea therapy. If you’re about to take a long trip overseas – or even a short weekend away from home – your first concern may be whether your CPAP equipment is portable enough to take with you.

In this blog exploring travel and CPAP, we’ll take a look at whether travel CPAP machines are required to take your sleep apnea therapy on the go, and what other solutions exist for traveling with your CPAP equipment.

Travel CPAP machines: Do you need a special CPAP machine to travel?

Maybe you’ve received a  sleep apnea diagnosis  and are about to  begin CPAP therapy . Or, perhaps you’ve been on CPAP treatment for a number of years, but haven’t yet traveled with your equipment. Eventually, you’re going to face the question: Can I travel with my CPAP equipment? Is it portable enough to use outside of my home?

The answer to both of those questions is a definite yes. You can travel with your CPAP machine. It’s definitely portable enough to take on the road and most modern CPAP machines are allowed on planes. They are also easy to use in a hotel room, just as they are in your bedroom.

However, if you travel often and do decide you want something lighter, ResMed AirMini™ is the perfect traveling companion. It’s the world’s smallest CPAP machine and offers waterless humidification. 1

So there’s no need to skip a vacation or worry about whether you can stay on therapy during a business trip. You can take either your CPAP equipment or a travel CPAP machine with you wherever you go.

ResMed.com offers an  overview of common CPAP travel solutions , while answering some of the more frequently asked CPAP travel questions, like:

  • Will my ResMed CPAP machine work with a battery? Short answer: yes!
  • Are converters available for use in a vehicle with a 12V or 24V DC power source? Also yes!
  • Will my CPAP machine work in other countries? Absolutely.
  • Can I use my CPAP machine during a flight? Yes – and more on that topic in our next blog entry.

This blog post contains general information about medical conditions and potential treatments. It is not medical advice. If you have any medical questions, please consult your doctor.

Check you’ll have power

At least two weeks before you fly, ask the airline for permission to use your device on a flight. If they give permission in writing, remember to take a copy of the letter/email with you. If you’ll be travelling overnight on other forms of transport (e.g. train), contact the tour operator or travel company in advance to ask if you’ll be able to plug in your therapy device. Check if you’ll need a special power adapter to use your device on a plane or other mode of transport and remember to pack one! ResMed offers converters so you can use your device with a 12V or 24v DC power source in a car, boat or other vehicle with suitable battery. Need one today? Visit our webshop . CPAP Travel tips

How do I get technical problems fixed when I’m abroad?

You can contact your healthcare provider for advice on fixing technical problems with your machine. ResMed’s teams are also on hand to help and you can contact them via email.

How does Airplane Mode affect data transmission?

Wireless connectivity is disabled whilst devices are in Airplane Mode and data transmission will therefore be temporarily unavailable. If you will be abroad or using Airplane Mode for an extended period, you may wish to tell your sleep clinic that they shouldn’t expect to receive any data from your device while you are away.

Can my therapy machine run from the 400Hz power supply on a plane?

Usually, yes. The rating plate on the therapy device may specify 50-60Hz, but the power supply in recent devices is usually compatible with the 110V or 400Hz power supply on planes. However, you may need to use a specific adapter to connect to the onboard power socket. Always check with the airline prior to travel.

Will the x-ray scanners at airport security affect my therapy machine?

No, the x-ray scanners will not harm your machine 1 . However, security may need to see a letter from your healthcare practitioner verifying that you are carrying medical equipment, so it’s a good idea to keep it handy.

Will my machine work in foreign countries?

Yes, your CPAP, APAP or bi-level sleep apnoea machine should work in a foreign country. However, power sockets differ between countries, so make sure you pack an appropriate adapter plug. Adapters can be bought from most electronics and travel stores, as well as in airports. If you’ll be abroad for an extended period, you may wish to tell your sleep clinic that they shouldn’t expect to receive any data from your device while you are away.

How can I travel with my CPAP machine?

  • At least two weeks prior to travelling, get clearance from the airline to use your device on a flight (if your approval is in the form of a letter, carry a copy with you).
  • Arrange to sit near a power source on the aircraft, or use the RPS II, our lightweight and portable battery pack that is ideal for air travel.
  • Confirm the type of power cord or adapter used by the aircraft.
  • Carry a letter from your doctor certifying your need for positive airway pressure therapy.
  • Take a copy of ResMed's FAA compliance letter for ResMed devices.
  • Pack the correct adapter for the country you're travelling to because power outlets differ in each country. Adaptors can be bought from most electronics and travel stores, as well as in airports.
  • Ensure that there is no water in the humidifier tub before detaching it from the machine and packing it away.
  • Most ResMed machines can automatically adjust for changes in altitude and run on virtually any power supply in the world, with a suitable adapter.
  • Remember, you can use your device on the plane, but not your humidifier, as aircraft turbulence increases the risk of water spillage and damage to the machine.
  • On arrival at your destination, don't forget to use distilled or deionised water to fill your humidifier tub.
  • Your hotel room may not have a power socket located near the bed head, so pack an extension cord to use your machine and mask comfortably.

The following information should always be within reach:

  • Your treatment pressure
  • Your mask type and size
  • Contact details for your equipment provider and care provider
  • Your health insurance information
  • Your doctor's details
  • A copy of the ResMed positive airway pressure device travel letter for assistance in carrying the machine through security and on the aircraft.

Universal Power

The S8 Series CPAP machines operate automatically between 110v and 240v AC. When traveling either inside or outside the USA, there are no switches to switch or fuses to change. The machine will automatically sense what voltage is needed and set itself to run on that power.

The user will need to adapt the plug that goes into the wall to fit the style of outlet socket that is being used. This is simply done with a Power Adapter Plug kit. This is the same type of plug adapter that would be used with a hair dryer or an electric shaver. World Traveler Power Adapter Plugs .

Battery Power for S8 Escape

  • DC Converter for S8 Machines . This DC-12 Converter connects the S8 Escape™ directly to a cigarette-style DC outlet.
  • C-100 Travel Battery Pack for CPAP Machines . The C-100 Battery Pack is a lightweight and economical battery option. Purchase the C-100 Battery Pack and the DC Converter for S8 Machines to operate an S8 machine.
  • Respironics Battery Kit with DC to AC Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter Second Gen . This battery kit is a combination of the Respironics Battery Pack (No DC Cable) and the DC Converter needed for the S8 Escape™.
  • Although direct DC connection using the DC-12 Converter would provide much longer run time, if an inverter is used with the S8 Escape™ it must be an inverter of at least 150W.
  • DC to AC Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter Second Gen: This inverter will convert DC power to the pure sine wave power needed to power both the S8 Escape™ and humidifier.
  • Respironics Battery Kit with DC to AC Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter Second Gen: This battery kit is a combination of the Respironics Battery Pack (No DC Cable) and the pure sine wave inverter needed for the S8 Escape™ with humidifier.

DC12 Converter for S8 Machines

ResMed S8 Series CPAP machines come equipped with a DC plug on the back of the unit. This allows the user to connect the CPAP to an external DC battery source. This cord is ideal for travel by recreational vehicle, boat, or any external DC batter that is equipped with a cigarette lighter plug.

CPAP.com Battery Kit for S8 Machines

The 2.5 lb CPAP.com Battery Pack is surprisingly small and lightweight. The lithium ion battery can be recharged at any discharge level without losing charge time due to battery memory loss. This battery has been approved by the United Nations and Department of Transportation as tested safe for travel. This battery kit comes with the CPAP.com battery and the DC12 Converter for S8 Machines , the cable needed to power most ResMed S8 CPAP machines.

This portable battery pack is an external lead acid battery that is the ultimate in power, portability and convenience. This battery kit comes with the Respironics battery and the DC12 Converter for S8 Machines , the cable needed to power most ResMed S8 CPAP machines.

Any mask will work with any machine, with one important exception. The ResMed AirMini is only compatible with certain ResMed CPAP masks. Compatible masks for the AirMini are as follows:

  • ResMed AirFit™ N20 Nasal Mask
  • ResMed AirFit™ F20 Full Face
  • ResMed AirTouch™ F20 Full Face

When considering another CPAP, APAP or BiPAP machine from ResMed or any other manufacturer, mask compatibility extends to all brands. The AirMini uses non-standard tubing to connect the machine to the mask, and is the primary reason why other masks won't work with the AirMini. Despite this issue, many of our customers consider the AirMini to be an excellent machine.

  • If a humidifier is used with your therapy, do not pick up the machine with the humidifier attached. With most machines it is easy to spill water from the humidifier chamber into the machine causing damage. Manufacturer warranties are voided by water damage to the machine. To avoid this, remove the chamber from the humidifier and then remove the humidifier from the machine rather than transporting them together.
  • If a humidifier is used, empty the water from the chamber every morning. Accidents happen. If a family pet or family member moves the machine and humidifier with water in the chamber it is more likely that water could be spilled into your machine. What consumers should know as Philips agrees to $1.1 billion CPAP settlement

Bill Chappell

The medical device maker Philips has agreed to a $1.1 billion settlement to address claims brought by thousands of people with sleep apnea who say they were injured by the company's CPAP machines. Smith Collection/Gado/Getty Images hide caption

The medical device maker Philips has agreed to a $1.1 billion settlement to address claims brought by thousands of people with sleep apnea who say they were injured by the company's CPAP machines.

Millions of CPAP sleep apnea machines made by the medical device maker Philips and a subsidiary were found to have a dangerous problem, triggering consumer lawsuits and a massive recall in 2021. Now, Philips has reached a $1.1 billion deal to settle claims from people who say they were injured. A portion of the funds will also go toward medical monitoring.

Some 15 million Philips CPAP and ventilator machines worldwide are affected by the Class I recall, a designation reflecting "a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, the products will cause serious adverse health consequences or death," according to the Food and Drug Administration .

The devices were sold between 2008 and 2021 in the U.S. under the Philips Respironics brand, according to Philips' recall notice .

"Since April 2021, the FDA has received more than 116,000 MDRs [Medical Device Reports], including 561 reports of death," that were either reported or suspected to be related to problems with insulating foam in the Philips devices, the FDA said earlier this year.

"Philips and Philips Respironics do not admit any fault or liability, or that any injuries were caused by Respironics' devices," the company said as it announced the new settlement agreement.

Here's an overview of the recall and where consumers stand:

Settlement money will likely flow next year

The $1.1 billion deal — which includes $25 million for medical monitoring — stems from mediation by retired magistrate judge Diane M. Welsh, but it's not yet final, as the agreement must be filed with a federal court in Pennsylvania — a main state where the machines were produced.

Philips announced the new settlement on Monday, along with its first-quarter financial results. The Dutch-based corporation then saw its stock price vault to a likely one-day record gain, as investors welcomed news that the recall issue seems to have been resolved at a lower cost than analysts predicted.

"The remediation of the sleep therapy devices for patients is almost complete," said Roy Jakobs, CEO of parent company Royal Philips, in a statement. He added, "We do regret the concern that patients may have experienced."

"We are pleased to have reached a resolution" of personal injury claims, the plaintiffs' co-lead attorneys, Sandra L. Duggan; Kelly K. Iverson; Christopher A. Seeger; and Steven A. Schwartz, said in a joint statement to NPR.

The money will go to "users of the now-recalled CPAP and other respiratory devices who suffer from significant physical injuries," and to fund research into treating their injuries, the attorneys said. Philips says some 58,000 people have filed claims or registered for the settlement.

As for when consumers could see money from the deal, Philips said it expects to make the payments in 2025.

This isn't the only settlement

News of the personal injury settlement comes a week after Philips settled a class-action lawsuit over economic damages from the recall.

That settlement is worth a minimum of $613.3 million, including $94.4 million in attorneys' fees. It offers reimbursement to users and "payers" — e.g., insurance companies — for recalled machines they had bought or leased.

The deal was approved last Thursday by senior U.S. district judge Joy Flowers Conti in the federal Court in western Philadelphia. The judge had previously appointed Welsh to serve as mediator in the injury-related class-action suit.

Philips says it expects to pay that money out this year.

What can consumers do?

Under the financial-loss settlement, users are entitled to a $100 award if they return their recalled device by Aug. 9, 2024 — the claim deadline.

People who suspect they own or use one of the affected devices should act soon to verify that if they haven't already, the FDA says . The agency notes that Philips' recall page offers ways to check serial numbers and register a product.

A specially dedicated website is accepting claims for the financial-loss settlement , and it notes that taking part in that deal "does not affect or release any claims for personal injuries or medical monitoring relief."

Under the financial-loss settlement, users are also eligible for a payment for each recalled device they purchased, leased, or rented — and if they paid out of their own pocket to replace a recalled machine, they could be entitled to a device replacement award, according to the website.

The arrangement includes a prepaid shipping label, although the administrators also warn users to consult with their doctor before returning a device they're still using.

A similar claims process will likely emerge for the injury-related deal once its terms are finalized.

Defective machines can send particles, VOCs into airways

The recall was triggered by thousands of health complaints from CPAP users. An investigation found that a polyester-based polyurethane foam built into the devices to dampen sound and vibration also had a risk of breaking down — especially when used in warm and humid conditions.

"If the foam breaks down, black pieces of foam, or certain chemicals that are not visible, could be breathed in or swallowed by the person using the device," the FDA said.

The agency said in a letter to Philips in 2022 that the foam also "may degrade and/or emit harmful chemicals, potentially resulting in toxic and carcinogenic effects and other significant harms to device users," listing formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds, or VOCs.

"Philips has acknowledged that, in a worst-case scenario, exposure to VOCs as a class may cause possible toxic and carcinogenic effects, as well as irritation of the respiratory tract, eyes, nose, and skin, nausea or vomiting, hypersensitivity reactions, dizziness, and headache," the FDA said.

Resulting problems "could potentially result in serious injury and may require medical intervention to prevent permanent injury," the agency said.

The plan to fix machines with the problem call for replacing the polyester-based foam with one that uses silicone as its base .

What is the current status of Philips CPAP machines?

U.S. sales of Philips' popular DreamStation and other respiratory units are currently on hold; the company says it plans to resume selling the devices once it has satisfied the terms of a consent decree with the U.S. government .

Philips also says it will continue to service units that are still in use, including by providing replacement parts.

You Snooze, You Lose: How Insurers Dodge The Costs Of Popular Sleep Apnea Devices

Shots - Health News

You snooze, you lose: how insurers dodge the costs of popular sleep apnea devices.

Lawsuits against the company contend that Philips designed its CPAP machine poorly and put it on the market without appropriate warnings.

The FDA accuses Philips of not taking appropriate action about the dangers of the degrading foam in its CPAP and ventilator devices despite learning about the risk as early as 2015. That year, the FDA said in a letter to the company, a Philips subsidiary began a preventative procedure because of complaints about the foam breaking down. The agency says it learned about the matter when the FDA inspected a manufacturing plant in Murrysville, Pa., in 2021.

When asked about the 2015 revelation, a company representative said the only documentation of the issue was a single email, with other communications handled over the phone, the FDA said in its letter.

What is sleep apnea, and how much do CPAP machines cost?

Sleep apnea is a disorder that prevents people from getting enough oxygen while they're sleeping — it's often characterized by long pauses in breathing, and loud snoring. People diagnosed with the disorder rely on continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, machines to keep their airways open and help them stay asleep.

Last June, the White House said President Biden was using a CPAP machine to help with sleep apnea.

Prices for many units range from around $500 to more than $1300.

"The average cost of a CPAP machine is about $800 among those we reviewed," the National Council on Aging said last year.

The recall also covers some models of Philips' more complicated BiPAP ventilators, which facilitate both inhalation and exhalation and routinely cost hundreds of dollars more.

Many apnea and ventilator devices' users also face additional costs, from replacements parts and upkeep to buying an additional machine for travel.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

cpap travel machine resmed

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

cpap travel machine resmed

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

cpap travel machine resmed

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

cpap travel machine resmed

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

cpap travel machine resmed

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

cpap travel machine resmed

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

cpap travel machine resmed

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
