Cruise In Central City, KY
- Add to quote
There is a cruise in coming up on Labor Day weekend at Central City, KY. Friday evening the cruise/car show starts around 5PM. Saturday morning at 8AM the car show starts up again and lasts untill everybody wants to go home. We usually have a pretty good turn out for a small town. This is probably a long distance trip for most but I thought I would let everyone know just in case anyone was close by.
How many cars do you usually get? What time does registration end? I might be able to make it.
Friday night the cruise/show is free or it always has been. Saturday the main car show states in the local newspaper... registration $10, 8:00am-12:00 noon is registration, 11:00am judging, 3:00pm presentation of awards. I believe last year everyone in the Saturday show got a small plaque. Depending on the weather you know how car shows are there are anywhere from 75 to 100 cars. I just found this link. http://www.centralcitykytourism.com/labor.html
I will be there Friday night. And hope Saturday night I hope.
Good deal. Hey Tim, I think I seen a quick shot of your car on Horsepower TV last weekend. They were showing highlights of the Hot Rod Reunion at Bowling Green. I was hoping to make it with my car but ive been recovering from back surgery on the 18th. I have the shortblock together for my engine but im on a weight restriction right now so picking up my Dart Iron Eagles would be out of the question. Unless I rig them to be lifted with my engine hoist to set them on the engine HMM. I better not.
Just watched it. Yep that was mine. Hope to see you at C.C.
Boy that blows. That 275 horses must have been Clydesdales. Yea your probably better off staying closer to home... maybe next year.
I don't think it was the Clydesdales , so much as it was a transmission built at a time when the builder was under a lot of stress or something. Now, it would be nice if he would stand behind it.
I must say the CC show this was great. A ton of car of all kinds had a BALL.
I was going to try and meet up with you Tim but my Dad decided when I was looking at your car that he needed something to eat at that moment. So he wanted me to head down to get a porkchop sandwich. I have no idea what you look like but I seen someone (thinking it was you) talking to F. Byars. I thought I may run back into you but when I walked back up that way I didn't see anyone around. We ran into a guy we know who had his Chevelle there and talked to him untill we left that night. Actually he said that he new you from years back. You made a pass through all the parked cars that night and that brought up a few stories he had.
Stories about me no way. I was always a good little boy.
How was the weather there? I wanted to go but I got home from Indy early in the morning Sat and it rained here on Saturday.
It was really nice.
Boy did it ever!!! I just stated to go and look on the web at the weather and that bad boy back in the stall.

5 reasons to make central city, ky, your next getaway.
Do you know the 1950s songs “(‘Til) I Kissed You,” “All I Have to Do Is Dream,” and “Bye Bye Love”? If you do, you’re an Everly Brothers fan.
But you might not know about their birthplaces. While Phil was born in Illinois, Don was born in Muhlenberg County, KY. The city of Central City has a monument established in their honor and an entire museum dedicated to honoring famous local musicians.
But Central City is more than just the birthplace of Don Everly. It’s a place of Southern hospitality and a place to relax outdoors and enjoy festivals and music events. Let’s look at five reasons you should make Central City, KY your next getaway.
Where Is Central City, KY?

Paducah is about a 90-minute drive west and Evansville, Ind., is only about a 75-minute drive north. Central City is easily accessible from Highway 431 in western Kentucky as well.
What Is Central City, KY, Known For?
About 5,800 residents live in Central City, KY. The largest city in Muhlenberg County, it was originally established as Morehead’s Horse Mill in 1826.
About 50 years later, in 1873, it was renamed Stroud City in honor of John Stroud, a local landowner. Then, in 1882, it was renamed Central City because of the importance of the Central Coal and Iron Company.
It’s known for the Kentucky Motorsports Hall of Fame Museum , the Lu-Ray Park & Amphitheater, and the six miles of Rails to Trails that run through Muhlenberg County.
Traveler’s Tip: After a few days in Central City, take a 40 minute drive west to Dawson Springs for a slice of delicious homemade pie from Becky’s and fishing on Lake Beshear.

‘Bobby loved to help people’: Central City Fire Dept. mourning loss of beloved firefighter
CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (WFIE) - The Central City Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of their own.
The fire department announced over social media late Saturday night that Lieutenant Bobby Armour suddenly passed away.
Lt. Armour was a member of the fire department for five years and received his Level 1 Firefighter Certification within four months of starting.
“It was not unusual to see Bobby lending a helping hand to family, friends, or people he had never met before, and that was Bobby!” said the CCFD on social media. “Bobby was always someone you could count on and have a laugh with. Please remember the Armour family as they manage the unimaginable in the upcoming days.”
The President of Volunteers also shared this statement with the Central City Police Department:
“The Bible tells us to love your neighbor as thyself. Lt. Bobby Armour lived that. A more giving person I’ve never met. Bobby loved to help people. He found great enjoyment in serving the citizens of Central City and Muhlenberg County as a first responder. Our department is better because of his service and he will never be forgotten. But no member knew Bobby like I knew him. Bobby was my father-in-law. For the past 21 years, there hasn’t been one single day that I haven’t talked to him. It has been my life’s joy getting to be around him. I’ve learned so much from him, and there was so much more to learn. I remember when he called me and told me he was joining the fire department. He was so excited. It was amazing how fast he finished his Level 1 certification. Bobby was an excellent person, husband, father, brother, Papaw, and friend. I will miss him so much as will the rest of this department. I’ll see you again Bobby. That, I’m sure of.”
