We don’t get to repeat even one minute of our time here, but what if you could experience all the youthful energy and sonic celebration that was 1980s New Wave & Radio Pop?  Every sound. Every nuance. Every time. That’s Electric Avenue. 

The Best 80s music hits performed the way you remember them. 

What started out as a one-off party gig has turned into a decade-long run, playing 100+ live concerts each year across the US and abroad.

An Electric Avenue show is a high energy space that reminds people of a time when they came home from school, put a record on, and listened with open ears and an open heart; conjuring first dates, first cars, prom nights, weekend movies, and meeting friends at the mall, while finding a sense of fashion and an identity all their own. At an EA show, 80’s music is as alive and well today as it has ever been.

If authenticity is your thing, Electric Avenue meticulously and painstakingly recreates every nuance and flavor of your favorite 80’s songs. Delving into their personal stash of vintage synthesizers and rare signal processors, an Electric Avenue show is a true labor of love. In fact, Electric Avenue’s sound is so close to that of the original artists that in 2019 Warner Music issued a cease-and-desist for using original artists recordings on their social channels. After hearing the complete live recording of Electric Avenue’s performance, Warner Music issued an apology to the band.

Electric Avenue has sailed the high seas with the The Walking Dead Cast, Kid Rock, The Impractical Jokers, Joey Fatone, and Pitbull. In 2019, EA was hand-picked and flown to Asbury Park, NJ to provide the soundtrack for the red carpet launch of the Bruce Springsteen, Gurinder Chadha ( Bend it Like Beckham ), New Line Entertainment 80’s-centric film, Blinded By The Light . They have had the privilege of being direct support for 80’s legend Pat Benatar, and have been joined on stage by, among others, members of Toto, Player, Talk Talk, and Little River Band.

As artists, the musicians in Electric Avenue have had a hand in the sale of over 15 million albums worldwide.

100 shows across the US

What started out as a one-off gig in 2012, has turned into: 100 shows a year across the US; cruising international waters with The Walking Dead Cast (and fans), Kid Rock, The Impractical Jokers, and Pitbull; being joined on stage by Bobby Kimball (Lead singer of Toto), Little River Band, Talk Talk, Pat Benatar, plus other famous people living out their 80s rock star dreams; and flying internationally to perform for clients and corporations. What a Life!  The band doesn't take any of this lightly and continue to wow audiences with proficiency and humility at every turn.

Hand selected as 'America's Best 80s Band'

In 2019, Electric Avenue was hand selected as 'America's Best 80s Band' and flown to Asbury Park, NJ to help Bruce Springsteen, Gurinder Chadha, and New Line Entertainment launch the 80s centric feel-good music film of the summer, 'Blinded by The Light' . Needless-to-say, Electric Avenue is more than your regular 'tribute band'. (No really, their resume of employers, tours, and recording credits is quite impressive!)

Dubbed by Fox News as "The first band in America to pivot to live streaming, the night of lockdown"

during the beginning of the pandemic, shortly after Electric Avenue was dubbed by Fox News as 'The first band in America to pivot to live-streaming, the night of lockdown', the band convinced one of its favorite Georgia charities that it was possible to move their charity online.  It took a lot of homework, consideration, and production, but the band and charity were able to exceed the charities’ goals, and past fundraising records that night!  As a result, EA's work ensured that all homeless people in Georgia were offered and administered free vaccinations. Another example of Electric Avenue, paying it forward.

Eric Frampton

Eric Frampton is the keyboardist/vocalist for and one of the founding members of Electric Avenue.

An Atlanta native, Eric started playing and studying piano at age 5, at which time it was discovered he had perfect pitch. He went on to study music theory and composition at Erskine College before leaving early to go on the road.

Frampton has contributed keyboards on many notable recordings, co-written 6 musicals, and provided on-screen playback music for Sweet Home Alabama (2002) and Bam Bam and Celeste (2005). He has also composed and produced commercial music for for such clients as IBM, HGTV, Payments20, QVC, Cartoon Network, the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Thrashers, Farm Rich, SeaPak, Delta Community Credit Union, and Moe’s.

A touring veteran, Frampton has completed national and world tours with B-52s, Billy Currington, Boston, Mother’s Finest, Lionel Richie, and Paul Simon.

Chris Pou has been the Front of House mixer and Production Manager for Electric Avenue since 2018.

This Athens, GA native studied Music Composition Studies at Georgia College and State University. Although bass playing was his first music job, live sound production is his heart and talent. As the Technical Director/Production Manager for the University of Georgia (UGA) 2008-2019, Pou has managed or overseen 600+ events for the organization. This experience allows Electric Avenue to pivot seamlessly between creating the stadium style concert experience they are known for in both large venues and controlled corporate/private event spaces.

Kevin Spencer

Kevin Spencer is the lead vocalist/guitarist for and one of the founding members of Electric Avenue.

Raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, his music touring career started at age 17 as a soldier/drummer in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Pipes & Drums. By the age of 21, Kevin had completed tours through the US, CAN, UK, & Germany, with notable performances for Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and Royal family at the Deuchlande Halle in Berlin, Germany. 

A few friends who have enlisted his talents as a musician or composer: Kristian Bush (Sugarland), Rita Wilson, Lindsay Ell, Rymes With Orange, Mudgirl, Daughtry, Lilith Fair, RENT (as Roger Davis; 550 shows from 2001-2004), Little River Band, Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, and he spent 5 years solely working for landmark producer/master musician, Daniel Lanois (U2, Peter Gabriel, Bob Dylan).

He is married to his best friend of 22 years, Krystee Manifold Spencer, Emmy Award Winning Design Producer for HGTV, Netflix, and Magnolia Network. 

Spencer has composed, arranged, and produced 100+ jingles for US-based corporations. He has also appeared in The X-Files ; The Chris Issak Show ; and as himself in 11 MTV/MuchMusic videos, the NBC Movie Mother, May I Sleep With Danger with Tori Spelling, as well as the the 2022 Sony Pictures feature film Lyle Lyle Crocodile .

Tom Young is the bassist/vocalist for and one of the founding members of Electric Avenue.

Originally a native of the Portland, Maine music scene, Young continued his learning in Boston, achieving a Bachelor of Arts in music from Tufts University before settling into the Atlanta music community.

Young has contributed bass on such notable recordings as Candi Staton “Young Hearts Run Free” 2006 re-record (Warner Bros.), William Bell “This Is Where I Live” (Stax), and many other successful independent releases.

An eternal student of live performance and spontaneous creativity, Young has had the always good-natured good fortune of providing low end for many world class artists including: Donnie, India Arie, Heston, Joi, Roy Ayers, Tom Browne, Darien Brockington, Tommy Tilton, Sister Hazel, Ten Story Relapse, Julie Dexter, Days Ahead, and The Ede Wright Trio. Young also appears as himself in the 2022 Sony Pictures feature film Lyle Lyle Crocodile .

Interesting fact: Tom has twice as many fans as anyone else in the band.

Will Groth has been the drummer of Electric Avenue since 2016.

A Mankato, Minnesota native, Groth studied Creative Writing and Music Performance at Mankato State University, as well as Music Performance at Winona State University.

Notable tours or performances: Zac Brown Band support band 2013/2014 tour, Mindi Abair, Oliver Wood, Randall Bramblett, Tommy Talton, Ike Stubblefield, Grant Green Jr., Geoff Achison, Coy Bowles, John Driskell Hopkins, Rev. Jeff Mosier, Yonrico Scott, Kofi Burbridge, and Col. Bruce Hampton. Groth’s drumming has also been featured on 12 Oz. Mouse (Adult Swim).

Raised on the back of a motorcycle from age 5, it’s no surprise that when not on stage you can often find Groth and his musician wife piloting his 2007 Harley Davidson Street Bob across the country.

Shannon Pengelly

Shannon Pengelly is the lead guitarist/vocalist for and one of the founding members of Electric Avenue.

A descendant of entertainers, musicians and artists, his attendance at the Northside School Of the Arts in Atlanta immersed him in jazz performance, music theory, ear training and performance. He was the only freshman on their venerable “Tour Show”, a touring production highlighting the professional level talents of the elite performers in the arts program.

After completing programs at Berklee College Of Music (Boston) and Musician’s Institute (Atlanta-Now AIM), under the direction and encouragement of Steve Freeman and Jimmy Herring (Col. Hampton and the Aquarium Recuse Unit, The Dead, Jazz Is Dead, Widespread Panic), Shannon moved to Hollywood, CA to further his guitar studies with the likes of Scott Henderson, Paul Gilbert, Don Mock, Steve Travato, Frank Gamble, Carl Verheyen, and many others.

Returning to the Atlanta music scene, Shannon played in various original bands including Big Sky, a staple “Progressive-Art-Pop” band featuring some of the region’s most talented players, including singing phenom Sue Wilkinson and bassist Jerry Peek of The Steve Morse Band fame. 

During this time, Shannon jumped into studio work contributing guitars on such notable recordings as Boyz2Men Boyz2Men II (12x Multi Platinum certified), Another Bad Creation Coolin’ at the Playground (Platinum Certified), and Shanice 21… Ways to Grow (Gold certified).

In the 90’s Shannon moved to and lived in Manhattan for close to a decade where he managed The Zoo Studios facility, scoring and mixing for a multitude of NY based independent films and media productions.

Needing change from the NY environment and after the occurrence of 9/11, Shannon moved back to his home town of Atlanta where he continued to use his many talents both in and out of the studio producing 100+ jingles for US-based corporations, performing in original bands and diving head first into corporate-style cover bands. After many years of taking it in the ass from a certain 70’s “Boat” band, Shannon got the axe and pulled up anchor to head into the world of 80’s new wave and radio hits with the other hoodlums you see on this website.

Shannon is a non-drinking, vegetarian dad.

Electric Avenue 2023 - Lorde and Flume headline 50 artists at New Zealand biggest music festival Fresh from headlining at the likes of Coachella and Glastonbury, music heavyweights Lorde and Flume will entertain an expected crowd of over 30,000 people on 25 February in Christchurch’s Hagley Park. Close to 50 artists will be performing across five stages including a new 10,000 capacity temporary indoor arena, in what will be the eighth Electric Avenue music festival. Also named in the announcement are top Kiwi acts L.A.B, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Supergroove and Teeks, as well as a number of other international artists including Peking Duk & Future Islands. The spectacular Synthony show will be making its debut festival appearance, and a UK drum & bass headlining artist will also be announced in November. Electric Avenue is the only full festival appearance in New Zealand planned by Lorde and is part of her world tour promoting her Solar Power album released last year. Flume whose real name is Harley Streten hasn’t performed in New Zealand since 2019 said he’s looking forward to returning to New Zealand to showcase his new album “its been too long – I’m excited to come back with the new show!” Kiwi hit makers L.A.B return after their epic sold out show in Hagley Park earlier this year. Singer and lead guitarist Joel Shadbolt said the band were amped for it “we love coming down to Ōtautahi! This will be our third time playing Electric Ave and its always a mean buzz! After being forced to cancel the event earlier this year festival promoters Team Event are excited with their expanded plans for next summer. “It’s great to be back with what is by far our strongest line-up to date, and a real privilege to be able to have artists of the calibre of Lorde and Flume on the program” says festival director Callam Mitchell.
