Taylor Swift coming to Toronto for six shows at Rogers Centre

By Michael Ranger

Posted August 3, 2023 10:05 am.

Last Updated August 3, 2023 5:26 pm.

Canadian Swifties rejoice, Taylor Swift is bringing her latest tour north of the border after all.

The pop superstar announced Thursday she will be performing six shows in Toronto as part of her Eras Tour. Rogers Communications is presenting Swift’s six Toronto dates with three shows at Rogers Centre from Nov. 14-16, 2024, and then three more shows at the venue the following week from Nov. 21-23, 2024.

Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era ???? Miami, New Orleans, Indy and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024 with @gracieabrams ! Verified fan registration for all shows is open now – visit https://t.co/xw6YMN3GMc for more information pic.twitter.com/DCgFQb2U22 — Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) August 3, 2023

“We’re thrilled that fans will enjoy six unforgettable shows with Taylor Swift,” says Terrie Tweddle, Chief Brand and Communications Officer for Rogers.

The upcoming dates will make Swift the first artist ever to perform a six-show stint at the downtown Toronto stadium. It will also mark her first Canadian tour dates since 2018.

The American singer made headlines earlier this year when there were initially no Canadian dates announced as part of her international tour. The perceived snub even prompted a personal invitation from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and saw an MP file an “official” grievance “ in the House of Commons “on behalf of all Swifties” in the country.

“Like millions of other Canadians, we’re fans of Taylor Swift and saw the national conversation where Swifties were wondering if she was coming to Canada. We reached out to her tour promoter, highlighted Rogers Centre as a world class venue and the partnership formed from there! We can’t wait to host Taylor for six big shows at Rogers Centre in 2024,” Tony Staffieri, President and CEO of Rogers Communications, says.

Verified fan registration is now open for the Toronto dates and fans can register until Saturday at 5 p.m. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, Aug. 9, and only fans that receive an email confirming their access will be able to join the queue for the Verified Fan Onsale. More information can be found here .

Minutes after the announcement went live, Ticketmaster reported “heavy traffic” on their Verified Fan webpage, which the platform says is meant as a protective measure against online scalper bots.

TAYLOR SWIFT / THE ERAS TOUR CANADA

  • Nov. 14 – Rogers Centre, Toronto
  • Nov. 15 – Rogers Centre, Toronto
  • Nov. 16 – Rogers Centre, Toronto
  • Nov. 21 – Rogers Centre, Toronto
  • Nov. 22 – Rogers Centre, Toronto
  • Nov. 23 – Rogers Centre, Toronto

Swift began her Eras tour earlier this year, performing songs from her chart-topping career against the backdrop of an elaborate stage design for each album.

The U.S. leg of the tour kicked off in March and wraps up this week with six sold-out shows in Los Angeles. The international leg of the tour begins in late August and continues well into next year with stops in Mexico, South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.

The Toronto shows will take place at a new-look Rogers Centre. The stadium underwent significant renovations this past winter with another round of renos to lower bowl seating expected to be completed before the Toronto Blue Jays kick off their 2024 season next April.

Rogers Communications says it will offer fans and its customers an opportunity to win tickets, with more details on how to win coming later this month.

“We’re all about connecting Canadians and bringing them the best content and experiences,” says Tweddle.

“Beyond being a highly-acclaimed singer and songwriter, she is truly an icon and role model to people all around the world.”

Taylor Swift Toronto tickets are already being listed for thousands of dollars

A selection of Taylor Swift tickets for Toronto dates with hefty price tags are already on sale days ahead of the official Ticketmaster release.

Just a day ago, the pop icon announced she is finally stopping in Canada for a six-show stint in November 2024, after initially skipping the country for the second leg of her Eras Tour.

Her concerts are set to take place at the Rogers Centre’s more than 50,000 seat-capacity stadium on Nov. 14, 15, and 16, followed by Nov 21, 22, and 23.

Tickets for the shows, still well over a year away, will go on sale on Wednesday, with only verified fan registration open at this point in time.

However, on the ticket reseller website StubHub, tickets for all six shows are already posted – and the prices are extraordinary.

The cheapest ticket available was just under $2,000 to sit in a 500-level seat while section 100-level tickets near $10,000. The highest ticket value for a ground level ticket was more than $13,200.

The question is – how are these tickets for sale before the official release?

A Ticketmaster spokesperson told CTV News Toronto that no tickets are sold before the Eras Tour verified fan sale begins.

eras tour seating chart rogers centre

“Those speculative listings are not real tickets that the seller actually owns,” Ticketmaster’s website states.

Canadian music commentator Eric Alper said it could be the case that scalpers are crossing their fingers and hoping that the tickets they were promised in a specific section will actually come to fruition.

Or, they could belong to Rogers Centre season ticket holders who have pre-sale access to events at the venue, which Alper said happens 99.9 per cent of the time.

He said tickets usually pop up on StubHub before their official release – but only now, concert-goers are talking about it because of the unprecedented demand for Swift’s Eras Tour.

eras tour seating chart rogers centre

If the tickets turn out to be fake, StubHub may in their “sole discretion” attempt to locate replacement tickets or provide a full refund, according to the company’s website. CTV News Toronto reached out to StubHub but received no response before publication.

As for the sky-high prices, Eras Tour fans are spending on average U.S. $1,300 – equivalent to more than $1,700 in Canada – on tickets, merchandise, alcohol, food and parking.

“We ain’t seen nothing yet,” Alper said.

History of Tomsk Oblast

The development of this region began in the late 16th - early 17th centuries. The oldest settlement in the Tomsk region is the village of Narym, founded in 1596.

The town of Tomsk was founded as a military fortress by the decree of Tsar Boris Godunov in 1604. It was one of the outposts of the development of Siberia.

From 1708 to 1782, Tomsk was part of the Siberian province. In 1804, the town became the center of a separate Tomsk province, which included the current territories of the Altai krai, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, East Kazakhstan, Tomsk regions and part of Krasnoyarsk krai.

In the 19th century, the growth of gold mining, smelting of metals, fur trade concentrated large capital in Tomsk, triggering a revival of trade. Important transport routes - the Moscow and Irkutsk tracts - passed through Tomsk.

In 1888, the first university beyond the Urals was opened in Tomsk, in 1900 - the Technological Institute, in 1901 - the first commercial school in Siberia, in 1902 - the Teachers’ Institute. By 1914, Tomsk was one of the 20 largest cities in the Russian Empire.

In 1925, the Tomsk Governorate was abolished and became part of the Siberian region. In the 1930s, Tomsk lost its administrative significance. In August 1944, the city became again a regional center.

During the Second World War, dozens of factories, educational, scientific, and cultural institutions were evacuated to Tomsk oblast and became the basis for the further development of the region in the postwar years.

In the 1950s, the first in the USSR nuclear center of the world level was created in Tomsk Oblast - the Siberian Chemical Combine. In the 1960s-1970s, oil production began on the territory of the region, a giant petrochemical plant was built - the Tomsk Petrochemical Combine.

Tomsk Oblast - Features

The length of the Tomsk region from north to south is about 600 km, from west to east - 780 km. Most of the territory is difficult to access because of taiga forests occupying about 60% of the region and marshes (28.9%). The Vasyugan swamp is one of the largest marshes in the world.

The climatic conditions of the southern and northern districts of the Tomsk region are markedly different. Almost the entire territory of the region is located within the taiga zone. The climate is temperate continental. The average temperature in July is plus 24 degrees Celsius, in January - minus 16 degrees Celsius. The climate in the northern part of the region is more severe, winters are longer.

The largest cities and towns of Tomsk Oblast are Tomsk (570,800), Seversk (105,200), Strezhevoy (38,900), Asino (24,400), Kolpashevo (22,200). Lake Mirnoye located in Parabelsky district is the largest lake. The main river, the Ob, crosses the region diagonally from the southeast to the northwest, dividing it into two almost equal parts.

The main industries are oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical, engineering, nuclear, electric power, timber industry, and food industry. All the machine-building and metal-working plants are located mainly in Tomsk and partly in Kolpashevo and Seversk. Oil is extracted mainly in the north-west and west of the region.

The main branches of agriculture are meat and dairy cattle breeding. Agricultural fields occupy about 5% of the territory. Wheat, flax and vegetables are grown in small amounts. Cattle-, pig-, sheep-, and goat-breeding are presented as well as poultry farming. Fur trade (squirrels, sables, musk-rats) and fur farming (silver-black fox) are also developed.

Tomsk Oblast - Natural Resources

Tomsk Oblast is rich in such natural resources as oil, natural gas, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, brown coal (the first place in Russia), peat (the second place in Russia), and groundwater. In the region there is the Bakcharskoe iron ore deposit, which is one of the largest in the world (about 57% of all iron ore in Russia).

Forests are one of the most significant assets of the region: about 20% (more than 26.7 million hectares) of forest resources in Western Siberia are located in Tomsk oblast. The timber reserves amount to 2.8 billion cubic meters.

In the Tomsk region there are 18.1 thousand rivers, streams and other watercourses with a total length of about 95 thousand km, including 1,620 rivers with a length of more than 10 km.

The main waterway is the Ob River. The Ob length in the region is 1,065 km. The main tributaries of the Ob flowing into it on the territory of the Tomsk region are the Tom, Chulym, Chaya, Ket, Parabel, Vasyugan, Tym.

Attractions of Tomsk Oblast

The sights of Tomsk Oblast include the harsh beauty of Siberian nature, the variety of winding rivers and canals, as well as monuments of wooden architecture, and other places that keep ancient legends about this land.

Undoubtedly, it is worth to visit Lake Kirek, one of the most beautiful reservoirs of the Tomsk region. It is located only 50 km from Tomsk. According to legend, a local millionaire drowned his diamonds here during the revolution in 1917.

About 40 km from Tomsk, there is a lake complex of the village of Samus consisting of seven lakes. These lakes are known for their very dark water, which is explained by the streams flowing into them from peat bogs.

Near the village of Kolarovo, located 33 km south of Tomsk, there is Siniy (Blue) cliff. It is a three-kilometer precipice descending to the Tom River. The cliff got its name due to the gray-blue shale that covers it. Several centuries ago, after the founding of Tomsk, a watchtower was installed on the cliff, from which signals were sent to the fortress.

At the source of the Berezovaya River, 40 km southeast of Tomsk, there is such an attraction as the Talovsky bowls, a natural monument of national importance. These are huge natural figures in the form of vessels of oval form, covered from the inside by birnessite - a rare mineral.

There is a tourist attraction of a global scale in the Tomsk region - the Vasyugan marshes, the largest marsh complex in the world. It is also called the “Russian Amazon”, because the Vasyugan marshes are not inferior to the famous South American river by their scale.

To the collection of sights of Alexandrovsky district of the Tomsk region, the most distant from the regional center, we can add Lake Baikal, the namesake of the famous lake, Goluboye (Blue) Lake, Malyye mountains (highlands) in the valley of the Vakh River and the Paninsky reserve, where the ancient burials of the Khanty and Ostyaks are preserved.

On the right bank of the Ob River, more than 200 km from Tomsk, the village of Mogochino is located. St. Nicholas Convent can be found here.

In Tomsk itself, plenty of monuments of wooden architecture deserve attention. In total, there are more than 700 objects, including 109 monuments of federal and regional significance.

Also in the Tomsk region you can visit more than 100 museums (most of them are located in Tomsk). The most popular museums are the Museum of History of Tomsk, the Memorial Museum “The NKVD Investigative Prison”, the Museum of Wooden Architecture, the Tomsk Regional Art Museum.

Blue Jays' bet on Rodríguez paying off in unique ways

Keegan Matheson

Keegan Matheson

CHICAGO -- Yariel Rodríguez is the risk the Blue Jays need to keep taking.

This organization is headed towards another offseason pivot, another crack at finding the right ingredients to mix in with the core of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and the solid rotation. A sprinkle of this, a teaspoon of that, but the Blue Jays just haven’t found the right recipe.

This past winter, Toronto didn’t update that recipe much. The club signed Justin Turner, Kevin Kiermaier and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, rounding out its roster with veterans. All three are gone now, traded at the Deadline in a season that has been disappointing and will soon be forgotten. Rodríguez, the Blue Jays’ only other big-league signing, is the last man standing.

Finally settled into a starter’s schedule, Rodríguez is showing his upside, which has made the mystery so intriguing from the very beginning. Friday’s 6-5 walk-off loss to the Cubs in 10 innings wasn’t Rodríguez’s finest outing by any means, as he allowed four runs and three homers over five innings, but the Cuban right-hander was coming off two excellent starts, and he still represents something this organization is short on: true upside.

“I think [his stuff] is getting better, a little bit, by getting used to pitching every five days,” manager John Schneider said. “His velocity is there. His stuff is there. It’s just about limiting a handful of pitches per outing from him. He’s done a really good job of maintaining it.”

Rodríguez should have around eight starts left in 2024. When you add his Minor League innings on top of the 55 he’s thrown in the big leagues, he’s at 75 1/3 frames this season. A minor back issue in Spring Training and an IL stint earlier in the year were frustrating at the time, but since the Blue Jays have fallen out of contention, hindsight paints those moments in a kinder light. There shouldn’t be much of a workload restriction, if any, down the stretch.

“I think his time missed kind of solved that,” Schneider said recently. “We’d kind of targeted around 100 innings, which was very fluid at the beginning of the year. Right now, we can just let him go pitch. If you have to adjust it down the road a little bit, you do that.”

Rodríguez owns a 3.93 ERA and has shown flashes of being more than just a back-end starter in the big leagues. Consistency is the key here, but if Rodríguez is able to stretch a near-4.00 ERA to the end of the season, the Blue Jays will have their No. 4 starter for next season behind José Berríos, Kevin Gausman and Chris Bassitt, without question.

The five-year, $32 million contract Rodríguez signed, even after Friday’s stumble, still looks like great business by the Blue Jays. It came with more risk than any of the club’s other signings, but also with far more upside. The Blue Jays have done well when they’ve spent big, but at the level of Berríos or Gausman, you know what you’re getting for that price tag. Toronto loves its known commodities, but all it’s known in October are early exits. This recipe needs some spice.

Have the latest news, ticket information, and more from the Blue Jays and MLB delivered right to your inbox.

Rodríguez knows and respects the Blue Jays’ plan for him, but he has simple needs. He just wants to pitch.

eras tour seating chart rogers centre

“I’m just trying to get some wins,” Rodríguez said through a club interpreter. “That’s the bottom line. I go out there to get a win and help the team win. I’ll keep working on my pitches and try to improve my pitches every time I go out there. I’m trying to finish strong, and that will carry over, I hope, into next year.”

Some poor locations cost Rodríguez on Friday, particularly on back-to-back home runs by Pete Crow-Armstrong and Miguel Amaya in the fifth. Rodríguez's outings can swing between incredible highs and sudden lows, but these three home runs were an outlier for a pitcher who entered with just four allowed over his first 50 innings in the Majors. He even poked some fun at himself when asked about his Wrigley Field debut.

“It’s great. I love it here. … It’s a small park, but …” Rodríguez said before his face broke into a smile and he started to laugh, cutting through the tension and the typical intensity we see on his face.

There’s something refreshing about Rodríguez, all of that intensity and upside in one fascinating package. He’s been worth the risk, and this should teach the Blue Jays to have an appetite for more.
