Florida Georgia Line Cruise Lyrics

Baby you a song You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise

Yeah, when I first saw that bikini top on her She’s poppin’ right out of the South Georgia water Thought, “Oh, good lord, she had them long tanned legs!” Couldn’t help myself so I walked up and said

Baby you a song You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise Down a back road blowin’ stop signs through the middle Every little farm town with you In this brand new Chevy with a lift kit Would look a hell of a lot better with you up in it So baby you a song You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise

She was sippin’ on Southern and singin’ Marshall Tucker We were falling in love in the sweet heart of summer She hopped right up into the cab of my truck and said, “Fire it up, let’s go get this thing stuck.”

When that summer sun fell to its knees I looked at her and she looked at me And I turned on those KC lights and drove all night ‘Cause it felt so right, her and I, man we felt so right

I put it in park and Grabbed my guitar And strummed a couple chords And sang from the heart Girl you sure got the beat in my chest bumpin’ Hell, I can’t get you out of my head

Baby you a song You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise Down a back road blowin’ stop signs through the middle Every little farm town with you

Baby you a song You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise Down a back road blowin’ stop signs through the middle Every little farm town with you In this brand new Chevy with a lift kit Would look a hell of a lot better with you up in it Come on

Come on, girl Get those windows down and cruise Aww, yeah.

Florida Georgia Line Explain the Magic of the ‘Cruise’ Chorus: ‘It’s Almost Like a Poem’

Florida Georgia Line

There were plenty of country artists singing love songs before Florida Georgia Line were even around, but once their 2012 megahit “Cruise” was released, there just really wasn’t a more poetic way (or, at least, a more bro-country way) to tell someone you fancy them.

See latest videos, charts and news

“Baby you a song, you make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise,” one of modern country’s most memorable lines, is part of what launched the song to insane success: No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, as well as a peak at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 after the song got a little help from  Nelly for a remix in 2013 . Although the duo of Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard has celebrated several No. 1s since, “Cruise” was what put Florida Georgia Line on the map (in major fashion). And now Billboard is honoring it on our 100 Greatest Choruses of the 21st Century list, with “Cruise” coming in at No. 64.

So how do you craft a classic chorus? For Kelley, it was almost innate.

What's The Greatest Chorus of the 21st Century? Vote Now!

“We were in the middle of a song, and I just whipped out, ‘Baby you like a song, make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise,” he explains to Billboard . “And we kind of rolled with that, wrote the chorus really quick, filled in the verses.”

But while “Cruise” came together in a jiffy, Kelley admits it was actually “kind of a process” to record: the duo waited a month or so to take it to the studio. “[Producer/co-writer] Joey Moi, me and Tyler put our heads together and really ‘built this thing up like a house,’ as Joey would say, and lifted all the layers and edited some words.”

And speaking of lift — that Chevy line (“in this brand new Chevy with a lift kit”) was one of the many gems to come out of that collaborative effort, with co-writer Jesse Rice taking inspiration from their real-life love of trucks. “I think for all of us, Chevys, Fords, trucks that are lifted and jacked up, man… we always wanted that or drove that,” Kelley adds. “But it was easy to throw that in, and it sat in there perfectly. It just felt right.”

Kelley says that he essentially sees the song as a love letter — especially because of the hook. “The chorus, I think the magic of it was that it’s a love song, but it’s almost in a poem form,” Kelley suggests. “I love poetry, and I thought it was kind of cool to bookend it — start the chorus with [‘Baby you a song…’] and end the chorus with ‘cruise.’”

Even with the hits Kelley and Hubbard have crafted since, they both admit it’s hard to beat “Cruise” as the best chorus they’ve ever written. And as their first single, it’s more than just the catchiness that makes it special to them.

“It was the song that jump-started our career and just set so many things in motion — and a lot of great memories with that song,” Hubbard says. “And I think every night we get to sing it on stage, we kind of re-live those memories and the coming-up years. That represents that for us.”

Florida Georgia Line, ‘Cruise’ – Song Review

In just a few short seconds, Florida Georgia Line make a memorable impression on 'Cruise,' their debut single with Republic Nashville. The duo have been performing together since graduating from Belmont University, and their formal training shows in the tight execution of this lyric-heavy summer song. It's Tyler Hubbard's unique voice that stands out immediately.

Hubbard doesn't sound like anyone else on country radio. His grainy southern drawl layers over banjo and electric guitars like gravy on grits. The song begins with the hook -- always an effective way to get radio play -- before telling a story of summer love.

"She was sippin’ on southern and singin’ Marshall Tucker / We were falling in love in the sweet heart of summer / She hopped right up into the cab of my truck and said / Fire it up let’s go get this thing stuck ," he sings during the second verse. This isn't an original story, but it's one that never gets old. These boys play it with inspiration.

" Baby you a song / You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise / Down a back road blowin’ stop signs through the middle of every little farm town with you, " Hubbard sings with support from Brian Kelley during the catchy chorus.

If anyone should know a thing or two about southern love in the country, it's a band called Florida Georgia Line. They don't disappoint with 'Cruise,' although the bridge could be cut without consequence. At just 3:33, this song the song lacks space to breathe. It's hard to make this complaint while enjoying the rock-influenced country party song for a fourth straight time, however... which is something that's bound to happen.

8 Years Ago: Florida Georgia Line’s ‘Cruise’ Sets Chart Record

Eight years ago, Florida Georgia Line  made country music history. During the week of Aug. 24, 2013, the then-new duo's single "Cruise" notched its record-setting 24th -- and final -- week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.

Florida Georgia Line's unprecedented streak at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart broke the chart's previous record of 21 weeks at the top. That record was held by a trio of songs: Eddy Arnold's "I'll Hold You in My Heart (Till I Can Hold You in My Arms)," Hank Snow's "I'm Moving On" and Webb Pierce's "In the Jailhouse Now."

Billboard chalked up Florida Georgia Line's massive No. 1 streak to a 2012 change in how the Hot Country Songs chart was determined. "It switched from ranking Nielsen BDS-based audience airplay impressions from a core set of terrestrial country radio stations to a hybrid survey," the outlet explains. "The chart now encompasses paid digital downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and streaming data and an expanded radio panel, according to BDS."

Co-written by group members Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard  — as well as Joey Moi, Chase Rice and Jesse Rice — "Cruise" is a breezy song that exudes the carefree vibe of a summer fling, with references to a gorgeous crush and aimless drives full of mischief. The song came to embody the "bro-country" movement that was dominating country music around that time.

"We were just writing a slow song, actually, and "Cruise" just kind of fell out," Chase Rice tells  Taste of Country . "We wrote "Cruise" in 45 minutes -- and the rest is history. Brian was a huge believer in it. He was like 'Dude, this is huge, this is monstrous.'

"I didn't really see it at the time but I'm glad he did," Rice adds. "I wanted Luke Bryan or somebody big to cut it. Luckily, they took it and made it what it was."

"Cruise" was also a massive crossover hit: A remix of the song featuring rapper Nelly peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard  Hot 100. The song remains the best-selling digital country single of all time; in fact, it was certified diamond (or 10 million times platinum) in early 2016.

In 2017, Sam Hunt 's "Body Like a Back Road" spent 34 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, breaking the record set by "Cruise." In a nice bit of synergy, however, Florida Georgia Line reclaimed their crown in 2018-2019, by spending 50 weeks at the No. 1 position on the chart with their Bebe Rexha collaboration "Meant to Be."

Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” Now Longest #1 in Country History

Trigger Random Notes Billboard , Chart , Cruise , Florida Georgia Line , Longest #1 , Longest #1 song in country music history --> 30 Comments

florida-georgia-line-002

Arguably yes, because music charts aren’t always the best gauge of cultural impact, and you can certainly question the validity of “Cruise” as a country song to begin with. But all qualifiers aside, “Cruise” has now spent longer at the #1 position of Billboard’s “Hot Country Songs” chart than any other song in that chart’s 70 year history. 22 weeks, and counting. The distinguished names that populate the longest ever #1’s include Hank Snow, Webb Pierce, Ray Price, Eddy Arnold….and Florida Georgia Line, and Florida Georgia Line now holds the trump card above all of these Country Music Hall of Famers on the charts. In fact you have to go all the way back to 1961 to find another song that held the #1 position for more than even 8 weeks.

Looking at the chart below of the top ten longest charting #1’s in the history of country music, the legendary names and songs Florida Georgia Line will now forever be ahead of, and how long it has been since a any song has entered this chart, illustrates just what a historic anomaly Florida Georgia Line and “Cruise” have become.

longest-charting-billborard-1

Simply put, “Cruise” is a behemoth, and there’s no reason to think that just because it now holds the distinction of being the longest-charting #1 that it will simply fade into the sunset. And the song’s success is not just confined to chart performance. Sales wise the song is on its way to being certified 5-times Platinum, with 5,100,000 songs sold at last count—an astronomical number considering this feat was accomplished in the blossoming of the free download/streaming age of music.

So what does all of this mean?

Big awards awaiting Florida Georgia Line

You can almost guarantee that Florida Georgia Line will win “Vocal Duo of the Year” and “Single of the Year” at next November’s CMA Awards. And now they have to be considered nominees, if not front runners for “Album of the Year” and the prestigious “Entertainer of the Year” award. The ACM Awards a few months later might be a similar case, barring another breakout superstar trumping Florida Georgia Line’s success. And don’t just look at them as the story of one song. Their 2nd single “Shine On” had some impressive commercial and chart success, and their 3rd single “‘Round Here” is already #7 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and rising. Their album Here’s To The Good Times has also now claimed multiple weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart. Florida-Georgia Line is winning the day in all sectors of country music right now.

Scott Borchetta has done it again.

Once again, the “Country Music Anti-Christ” has taken a virtual unknown all of the way to the very top of the country music mountain. Just like he did with Taylor Swift, he took a chance on an unproven act, and it has paid off in spades. In fact one irony about all of this Florida Georgia Line success is that it in many ways is outshining Taylor Swift. Certainly “Cruise” is, selling almost 2 million more songs than Taylor’s biggest single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” from her latest album, and “Cruise” is continuing to sell at a faster pace. Florida Georgia Line isn’t just the king of the hill, so is Scott Borchetta and Big Machine Records. They are on a massive winning streak that is showing no signs of ending soon.

Florida Georgia Line is the perfect mono-genre specimen.

They’re rock, they’re country, they’re hip-hop. Add some of their remixes, they could even be considered to touch on the fringes of EDM. Florida Georgia Line is all things to all people, and if you were looking for one band to symbolize the emergence or arrival of the mono-genre, it would be them. Has Billboard’s new chart rules aided in the success of “Cruise” and Florida Georgia Line? Of course. But don’t discount the commercial and cultural impact of this song and band either. For all we know, “Cruise” may have shattered this #1 Billboard chart record without the help of the new rules. It has sold that well, and stayed strong for that long.

Billboard’s chart rules are re-writing the history books.

When Billboard’s new chart rules went into effect boosting the chart performance of songs like “Cruise,” Saving Country Music put its full resources behind an attempt to persuade Billboard to reconsider some of its decisions. Much of this effort was met with apathy from music fans, including this site’s readership. At the time my assertion was this could completely re-shape the country music landscape, and result in the re-writing of history books like we now see with “Cruise.” The song trumping legacy recordings from Hall of Famers is the reason this issue mattered. Now by complaining about the rules, we look like sore losers. But nonetheless, the advantage “Cruise” had over classic country recording because of plays in the pop realm is one of the reasons we are seeing this anomaly.

At the same time, we also cannot discount the cultural impact of this song. There are songs that have sold more copies over the years in country, but not in a period like this where consumers are streaming songs more and more instead of buying them, and the whole music industry is in a recessionary environment. There also has to be another big song that resonates with music fans to knock a #1 out of that spot, and as of yet, we have not seen that song. Just as much as Florida Georgia Line has benefited from the new chart rules, so could another country crossover song and knock it out of the top spot. #1 songs are judged by their peers at that given point in history, not by the history of the genre. If anything, the success of “Cruise” also speaks to how country music at the moment is failing to produce songs that resonate with a wide audience, and just how much “Cruise” does resonate.

– – – – – – – – –

Florida Georgia Line is no longer the next big thing in country music, they are the big thing, period. And this isn’t their high water mark, this is their foundation.

Are you sure this is a “country” song?

' src=

Look, we can tell ourselves this song isn’t country all we want, and tell ourselves none of this matters. But the simple fact is whenever a schoolkid goes to Billboard or Wikipedia or somewhere else to research what the biggest songs in the history of country music were, Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” is going to be right there at the very top, above a slew of Hall of Famers. That is why this matters more than anything. This is how this history of country music will be told.

I’ll even go as far as this: As long as Florida Georgia Line has moderate success for the next 10-12 years, they’re probably now shoe-ins for the Hall of Fame themselves because of this song’s success. And who knows where this ends. What is the big song that is going to depose “Cruise?” It could spend another 5-6 weeks on the chart, maybe longer.

' src=

greetings from kelowna,b.c.canada, could you please tell me the total number of weeks that “cruise” by FGL spent at #1. thank you, robert cosar

' src=

That table is quite the eye opener. My first thought was that this is about as legitimate as calling Barry Bonds the all time home run king. But in one way, it’s even worse. At least Barry Bonds was a great ballplayer destined for first ballot HOF before he roided up.

“Cruise” is the very first single Florida Georgia Line ever released. It would be like a rookie shattering the most home runs in the history of baseball in a player’s first year.

' src=

Actually it would be more like a rookie shattering the single season home run record. As disturbing a statistic as this is, their single has merely been number one longer than any other single. It hasn’t been number one longer than, say, all George Strait’s singles have spent at the top of the charts put together. Let us pray that that’s impossible.

' data-tf-not-load src=

Can we correct this tragedy or will good music forever be bound to the underground? Our world is plagued with musical ignorance. I wish the CDC would develop a vaccine for this.

' data-tf-not-load src=

This sucks.

Any way someone could edit that Wiki article, put an asterisk next to Cruise, and go * = ‘since the way the chart is determined drastically changed’?

Back in October of 2012 when Billboard changed its chart rules, I put the full resources of Saving Country Music behind opposing and decrying the new rules as eventually giving rise to this very problem. I tried as best I could to explain to people why this mattered, and specifically to them, and very few people listened. Mostly my campaign was met with apathy, sometimes even laughter, except from of all people, Carrie Underwood fans, and one reporter from the New York Times who called me up to interview me.

https://savingcountrymusic.com/billboard-changes-country-chart-rules-boosts-crossover-songs

https://savingcountrymusic.com/how-billboards-new-chart-rules-effect-you

And especially here:

https://savingcountrymusic.com/a-critical-time-in-country-music

“Over the last few months, and the last few weeks specifically, we have been going through a country music Cambrian Explosion of sorts, with massive, earth-moving events completely re-shaping the style and infrastructure of a genre that has been around for over 70 years. Arguably there”™s been more significant events in a short period than any other time in country”™s history.”

But one of the things I find most curious about the recent string of current events is how it has been received in certain sectors of the country music population. The country music underground was virtually birthed out of the rapid move to pop in country that was ushered in around the late 90”²s, early 2000”²s. Without the fervor and dissension around the direction of Music Row and mainstream country music, there may have never been as strong of support for acts like BR549, Hank Williams III, and Dale Watson. For a decade the underground was the sector of country music organizing against the intrusion of pop in country and trying to preserve country”™s roots.

But where are those voices now? As these historic issues have been presenting themselves one after another in recent months, Saving Country Music has not only had to work overtime to at least attempt to cover them from an independent viewpoint (let alone attempt to organize against them), but to fight off a strange form of active apathy that militantly wants to not give a shit.

Meanwhile where is there support for attempting to preserve the roots of the music coming from? Carrie Underwood fans of all places. Carrie Underwood fans! They have been making front page headlines for being against Billboard”™s new chart rules, even when as Billboard”™s Editorial Director Bill Werde points out, Carrie Underwood could very easily be one of the beneficiary”™s of the new system. Carrie”™s fans”™ reaction wasn”™t based soley on their self interests, but for better interests for the entire country genre.

The Billboard issue has had massive reverberations throughout the music industry, with fans of R&B, rap, and rock up in arms that artists with “Crossover” pop appeal are virtually entrenched in the top positions on Billboard”™s charts. Spin called the new rules “clueless.” The biggest paper in the world, The New York Times interviewed me to get my point of view, even though many of my readers found the issue boresome.”

– – – – – – – –

So folks, THIS is why these issues and causes are important, because eventually they’re going to lead to the rewriting of the history books. Now all it looks like is that we’re poor sports, bitching about the rules of the game—a loser’s cry. The rules are the rules now. We had a chance to change them, and failed. Nobody signed the petition. Nobody cared. And now, THIS is the result. I hope people remember this the next time they claim I’m crying wolf.

There’s so much shit going around country music right now that I don’t even know where to point my finger and direct my anger. We’ve got hip hop artist coming in and raping the genre, white trash rappers trying to knock the door down, pop groups lip syncing on stage, Tim McGraw trying to figure out if he’s a mud bogging redneck or a Project Runway host, and the whole place is littered with empty Corona bottles from the latest Kenny Chesney concert that just rolled through. Country music is barely hanging on by a Don Williams album.

“Florida Georgia Line is no longer the next big thing in country music, they are the big thing, period.”

Oh, hot dog. Of all things to become an unstoppable juggernaut…

Across-the-board unifying figures are so rare in our increasingly fragmented pop culture, especially in the music world. It’s a shame that the “BABY, YOU A SONG” guys are the “best” we can do nowadays in that regard. :p

' data-tf-not-load src=

Honestly, I think the “monogenere” is here to stay. Game over we lost. The trick now is to use the new avenues out there to expose good music to as many folks as possible. In this day and age if you want good music it’s out there the country music anti-christ be dammned. We do not need Nashvegas not even a little bit. Buffett proved one thing years ago songs about partying at the beach the lake etc. always strike a chord with lots of folks because it reminds them of fun times. “cruise” simply proves that formula will always work.

This is sad news, but the way they tabulate the charts is why this nightmare set to music can do this.

All that time at #1 and I’m not even sure their guitars have strings on them.

They’re certainly not plugged in.

florida georgia line cruise ship

I can’t even tell you how many friends’ comments, facebook posts, etc., I’ve heard that go something like this: “I normally don’t like country music, but I LOVE Florida Georgia Line.”

Countless children and teenagers are being brainwashed that rural/country living is nothing more than big trucks, light beer, field parties and cutoffs. Nothing matters but partying and consumerism. On one hand I want to laugh off FGL and hick hop artists as goofballs, but when I see firsthand the impact this type of bullshit has on our culture, i feel a little reactionary.

' data-tf-not-load src=

And I’ve seen the same comments about artists making country music who have never remixed a song. Also people generally like and talk about whatever radio plays. With Cruise being on pop and county radio, naturally it gets the most talk.

' data-tf-not-load src=

Things change, and we adjust: The live ball replaced the dead ball in Major League Baseball in 1920. Home Run Baker is still considered a pretty damn good slugger. The MLB season went from 154 games to 162 games in 1961. Ask Roger Maris how easy it is for fans to forget that. The NBA added the shot clock in 1954, the three-pointer in 1979. College in 1985 and 1980. Pete Maravich is still a legendary scorer. SAT scores changed from a max of 1600 to 2400 in 2005. People who took the test in 2004 and earlier didn”™t suddenly get dumber. The list could go on and on . . . I predict FGL will simply be buried under the wave of new, longer records yet to come. Crossover hits always sell better. Always have, always will. We (as a rule) don”™t like crossover songs. Get over it. I stopped watching MLB after the travesty of the cancelled World Series in 1994. Instead I go to a minor league game. I like it better. I like outlaw country better, too. Glad we live in a world with choices. (As a side not, in the cover band I”™m in, I have been forced to do ”˜Cruise”™. I sing backing vocals, and in protest my lyric always goes, ”˜Babe you know this song, makes me wanna roll my windows down, and pyoo-ook.”™)

Things change but pop isn’t going more country. Country is going more pop and it was already too pop before this change. It’s no longer crossover when artists are remixing songs for pop radio and making pop and rap songs to begin with like Luke’s new song, it’s jumping the fence.

' data-tf-not-load src=

Hey Trigger, I was wondering what your thoughts were on this blog post, where a guy took Billboards new methodology and applied it to other major crossover pop country hits to see how long they would have been at number one under the new methodology, and how they stack up to Cruise.

http://www.mjsbigblog.com/the-meaningless-florida-georgia-line-billboard-hot-country-songs-record-who-really-has-the-biggest-country-hit.htm

I did see it. Covering a festival at the moment. Will read it more in-depth when I get chance.

I”l repeat what I saw and said when Billboard’s unfair new Hot Country chart rules started. I bet some labels (probably Big Machine and their bigger partner Universal (the biggest label in the world that controls most music, most being pop)) asked Billboard to change the rules in their favor the help them make country music more pop and reward and encourage artists for doing so. Also to further promote those artists like this Billboard article does:

http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/the-615/5447163/florida-georgia-lines-cruise-sets-record-for-longest-no-1-run-on

No matter how they spin it, a huge portion of Cruise airplay and sales came from the Nelly remix pop radio plays. It doesn’t matter if it was 1%, 50% or 99%, including pop airplay for the Hot Country chart screws over every country artist not making pop music or remixing. It’s also similar to the Hot 100 chart they already had, where Cruise peaked at #4.

All while keeping many country songs from hitting #1, top 5 or 10, or even just entering the Hot Country chart. Also keeping many from charting well at country radio since radio plays what the pop mongers (“gorillas”) are pushing.

If there were no Billboard Hot Country chart change, maybe there would be no Nelly remix.

On July 16, 2012, Florida Georgia Line signed with Republic Nashville, part of the Big Machine Label Group.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Georgia_Line

In October 2012 Billboard changed the Hot Country chart rules.

The Nelly remix, produced by Jason Nevins, was released to iTunes on April 2, 2013 and to pop radio on April 16, 2013.

This mess is the worst thing to happen to country music, ever, since it’s strongly biased against, promotes pop over and kills country. How can we get more country fans to sign this petition?

Billboard, Stop the Use of Multi-Format Airplay in Determining ‘Hit’ Country, R&B, Rock Songs http://www.change.org/petitions/billboard-stop-the-use-of-multi-format-airplay-in-determining-hit-country-r-b-rock-songs

Since this puts steel, fiddle, banjo etc. musicians out of work they should sign it too.

What else can we do?

As music director for a country station, I take a bit of offense at people who want to blame this all on country radio. The radio plays it because people are buying and requesting it. This run at #1 is being driven almost entirely by sales, as the song is still in the top 10 of the iTunes sales charts.

The fact of the matter is that Cruise spent all of one or two weeks at number one on Mediabase. That’s the chart radio uses. Billboard has very little connection to anything we do. Even less so since they changed their chart rules. On the radio the song has spent most of the year as a recurrent (light rotation) and in the near future will be no more common on the radio than any other hit from recent years.

I find the country song to be on the upper side of mediocre with the remix being terrible. The song is very catchy and with enough drawl and partying. I find myself to enjoy the song. I agree that Florida-Georgia Line are the next big country duo following Brooks & Dunn and Sugarland. They have made history, and I’m proud of them for that. Not many singers/groups find big success with their first single, so for F-GL to get this big with their first single is amazing.

Going off-topic here, another fairly new country artist I also have been following since his first single is Hunter Hayes. A talented musician and a good singer-songwriter, though his first single “Storm Warning” was a small hit, his second single “Wanted” propelled him into country stardom at only 21. Unless something tragic happens, he’s got a good long career ahead of him.

' data-tf-not-load src=

You need to check, sure I’m movin on held number one for a total of 26 weeks.

Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” is the longest #1 in history. At this point dozens upon dozens of articles and outlets have run stories predicated on this certified fact, including Billboard who tabulates these things. “I’m Movin’ On” held the position for 21 weeks. This was also certified from Billboard.

About Cruise

"Cruise" is a song recorded by American country music duo Florida Georgia Line. It was first released to iTunes in April 2012 and then to radio in August 2012 as the first single from their extended play It'z Just What We Do. It was written by group members Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard with Joey Moi, Chase Rice, and Jesse Rice (no relation). It is included on their first album for Republic Nashville, Here's to the Good Times, which was released on December 4. "Cruise" is the best-selling country digital song of all time in the United States as of January 2014. The song is considered the foremost example of the genre of country music termed "bro-country". The recording by Florida Georgia Line reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 on its initial release, but dropped off the Hot 100 in February 2013. A couple of months later, a remix by rapper Nelly was released, and the song then re-entered the top 10. The song reached a peak of No. 4 on the Hot 100 chart in its 34th week, one of the slowest climbs to the top five in the chart's history. The song also logged 24 weeks at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs, becoming the longest-running No. 1 single on that chart at the time, until it was surpassed in 2017 by Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road".   more »

Norwegian Cruise Line partners with Florida Georgia Line- “This Is How We Cruise”

Norwegian Pearl

Cruising and country music: these days they go together seamlessly, with big name acts like Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride, Jerrod Niemann, Justin Moore, Easton Corbin, and Lee Brice performing on voyages across the industry.

Now, country artists Florida Georgia line have partnered with Norwegian Cruise Line to help support their new project the Dirt Campaign, which is designed to help raise  $100,000 for Habitat for Humanity.

The campaign idea was inspired by Florida Georgia Line’s “Dirt”, whose lyrics talk about the dream of owning a home. The band is encouraging their fans to donate to the cause .

As an extra incentive, those who support this endeavor will also be entered for a chance to win a trip for two on FGL’s  This Is How We Cruise  voyage aboard the Norwegian Pearl.  The 4-day music and fun- filled cruise will set sail from Miami on Nov. 8, 2014.

The 6 best cruise lines for girlfriend getaways

I f you're scouting for a vacation to take with your best gal pals where you can get pampered, barhop and dine at fun, eclectic restaurants, a cruise checks off all the boxes. Even better? You only have to unpack once, and there's no driving involved.

This super-flexible vacation option takes the stress out of satisfying a mix of personalities and travel styles. You arrive on embarkation day ready to unwind and still adore your besties at week's end. If needed, everyone can do their own thing during the day and still come together for dinner and evening entertainment.

Nightlife options — not to mention wellness perks like an onboard spa, yoga classes and poolside naps — are never far from your cabin. A friend who wants to stay out late or retire to bed early won't cramp the group's style. Adventurous eaters and picky palates can be easily satisfied at various onboard restaurants with extensive menus, and your wine-loving pal can load up on Napa cabs while you chat up mixologists behind the bar or taste-test craft beers.

But not all cruise lines are girlfriend getaway-friendly, particularly if you don't like attending academic lectures at night or leaving each port by 4 p.m.

Here are the six best cruise lines for your next bestie vacation, offering everything from a party-vibe atmosphere to a self-care-focused scene.

Virgin Voyages

Sir Richard Branson's edgy Virgin Voyages first set sail in 2021, aiming to attract party-minded travelers seeking a kid-free cruise experience (no passengers under 18 allowed). The line's three ships — Scarlet Lady , Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady — take the celebratory spirit to heart: All emulate a "superyacht" vibe with an adults-only clientele. (A fourth ship, Brilliant Lady, is set to launch in 2025.)

If your group is on a budget, opt for an Insider cabin. The beds are in an L shape, creating an instant spot to host happy-hour drinks or late-night chit-chat with friends from other cabins. Two other beds are in bunks above.

Splurge on a suite for room to spread out. Whether you choose the 2,147-square-foot Massive Suite with a private hot tub on the terrace or the 570-square-foot Gorgeous Suite, your squad will have ample room. Terraces are wide enough for a swing chair and, on some, two chaise lounges; access to a members-only outdoor space hosting predinner cocktails is also included.

Related: First impressions of Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady from a cruise newbie

Twenty dining venues focus on casual eats like Korean barbecue and Mexican, and a partnership with the Bar Lab and Cocktail Cartel crafts swoon-worthy drinks for your gals-only bar crawl. Expect irreverent and fun entertainment that might include late-night cabaret shows and the kind of rock and funk in the clubs that you'd expect from the founder of a record label.

Speaking of dancing, pack your terrycloth shorts and headband; '80s-themed VHS Workout classes are an aerobic time warp perfect for a group activity. Or consider getting matching tattoos at Squid Ink , the onboard tattoo parlor.

Itineraries reject 9-to-5 port days in favor of evening departures and some overnight stays so you can experience dinner or nightlife in port. Choose among sailings that depart from Miami or San Juan , Puerto Rico, or opt for a Mediterranean cruise that hits hot spots like Ibiza and Corsica. Caribbean itineraries to the Bahamas include a stop at the cruise line's private beach club on Bimini.

Celebrity Cruises

With social media star Capt. Kate McCue and a supporting cast of female officers at the helm on select ships, Celebrity Cruises will match your need for female empowerment with its own. The cruise line appeals to women travelers who crave a foodie and cultured vibe more than families in search of an arcade or zip line.

By day, gather at the adults-only Solarium, where an indoor pool (in a covered area marked by skylights) is true bliss when you want to sip pina coladas and giggle with your girlfriends. Book AquaClass cabins that connect you with a spa concierge to arrange your spa day and provide access to a thermal suite where you can all destress once you've ditched the office for vacation. Energetic friends can sample fitness classes ranging from Zumba to yoga; some ships even offer Peloton bikes.

If your ladies love their vino, bond at one of the cruise line's workshops in food-and-wine pairing or blending your own wine. Or skip class for a party; gather the gals for at least one toast at the alfresco Sunset Bar predinner, then bounce among Celebrity's bars and lounges for people-watching and dancing after dark.

Dining options range from the whimsical to the elegant. Gawk at Le Petit Chef's innovative plating and table animation, and hold on to your hats at the Magic Carpet Restaurant (an open-air space that hangs over the side of the ship). Dress up for a night out at Raw on 5 or Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud (on Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent , the cruise line's newest ship).

Whether your group wants shore excursions the likes of rugged adventures in Alaska , beach-bathing in the Caribbean or village-hopping in the Mediterranean , Celebrity Cruises' itineraries cover it all.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Cruise Line's three-day weekend cruises are ideal for gal pals short on either vacation time or travel budget, but a weeklong cruise is worth it if you manage it. If you don't want to bother with airports, there's a good chance you'll be able to find a cruise departing from a port within driving distance of your hometown. Carnival cruises depart from Baltimore; Galveston, Texas; Los Angeles; Seattle; New York City; and Jacksonville, Tampa and Port Canaveral (near Orlando) in Florida, among others.

Save even more by bunking three or four to a cabin, though you might want to splurge on a couple of cabins to avoid sharing one bathroom.

What Carnival Cruise Line does best is cater to a variety of people. You can enjoy casual dining by celebrity restaurateurs (including Shaquille O'Neal's Big Chicken, Guy Fieri's Guy's Burger Joint and Emeril Lagasse's Emeril's Bistro 1396), sample sushi or Italian fare, or choose fine dining at The Chef's Table or Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse .

If your crew is into it, you can line dance, race down waterslides and holler out music trivia answers on the pool deck. Or perhaps you'd rather walk past that wet madness to the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat, a sweet spot for catching up on girl talk in a completely chill environment — no shrieking kids allowed. Cool off and try your luck at the slot machines in the casino.

When you're ready for a late night out, you'll find Carnival offers an impressive bar lineup. Sip fruity drinks at the poolside RedFrog Tiki Bar, join the Mega Deck Party on the lido deck or sample creative botanical-forward cocktails at the Alchemy Bar (on all ships except Carnival Paradise, Carnival Firenze and Carnival Venezia).

Norwegian Cruise Line

If dancing the conga line on the lido deck, jamming at a Glow Party or working it at a retro-themed disco are your ideas of a good time, Norwegian Cruise Line ships could be your group's utopia.

Whether you want to spend a relaxing sea day on the ship getting manis and pedis in the spa or escape the crowds at Vibe Beach Club (on select ships), you have plenty of opportunities to hang with the girls. These ships offer plenty of daytime onboard options drenched with adrenaline, from zipping down a waterslide to an indoor cycling class.

Stay up late to see Broadway-style shows or find your onboard crush among the cast of "The Choir of Man." Afterward, reconnect at your choice of 20-plus bars or lounges, pouring everything from bubbles to martinis. Each watering hole has a distinct theme, including the Skyy Vodka Ice Bar, entirely constructed from ice.

Norwegian Cruise Line sails the world, including Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and Hawaii (see four islands in a week, whew!).

Margaritaville at Sea

Grab your salt shakers and set sail on one of Margaritaville at Sea's two vessels, Paradise or Islander. Margaritaville at Sea is the Jimmy Buffett-affiliated oceangoing offshoot of the popular Margaritaville Resort brand.

Until recently, the line only sailed two-night voyages to Freeport in the Bahamas from the Port of Palm Beach, Florida, on its first ship, Paradise. With the addition of Islander , the line now offers four- and five-night departures to Key West and the Mexican Riviera from the Port of Tampa Bay.

Make a beeline for the aptly named 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar, the Sunset Bar or the Euphoria Lounge for the first of many margaritas. Or meet up in the casino to play the slots. Both ships also host a theater, fitness center and spa to fill in your calendar of fun.

And, yes, you can sing your heart out to Buffett songs. Just show up at "Jimmy's Ship Show," a musical written by Buffett and performed on board. You can also order a Cheeseburger in Paradise at LandShark Bar & Grill, a concept borrowed from Margaritaville Resorts. Other dining venues include a coffee and pastry shop, steak and seafood joint, pizzeria and the requisite buffet.

Royal Caribbean

If you can't decide on anything as a group, pick a ship that lacks nothing in terms of things to do. This way, everyone is happy. Royal Caribbean's six Oasis Class ships (Oasis, Allure, Harmony, Symphony, Wonder and Utopia of the Seas ) are solid options because they're the largest passenger vessels at sea. This means lots of choices.

You can dine at a different restaurant every night (and still not try them all), check out a Broadway-style show, then barhop from one deck to the next by way of the elevating Rising Tide Bar. Foodie friends can load up on calories at gourmet venues such as Wonderland and 150 Central Park, while the health-conscious can sip smoothies for lunch at the Vitality Cafe.

Related: The ultimate guide to Royal Caribbean

Or cheer on the bravest of your bunch as she soars along the ship's zip line, climbs the multideck rock wall or attempts to hang 10 on the FlowRider surf simulator. Then you can all bring your heart rates back down with treatments at the spa or a thermal suite detox.

If you're seeking a quick tropical escape on a ship with the latest amenities, the line's newest vessel, Utopia of the Seas, is right up your alley. It's the line's first brand-new ship designated for short-cruise service, and offers quick three- and four-night itineraries from Port Canaveral, Florida, to Nassau, Bahamas, with most of them stopping at Royal Caribbean's private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay .

On Perfect Day, head to Hideaway Bay, the island's newest adults-only escape, where you'll find live bands, plenty of loungers and bars with beach and ocean views.

Bottom line

If your tight-knit group of ladies is looking for a getaway to bond, refresh and let loose, a cruise is an ideal girls' trip. With a bevy of destinations and itinerary lengths, and various onboard attractions, cruises offer so many choices for everyone in your group.

Cruise vacations are also easy peasy — you unpack once, freeing you to let your girls' getaway unfold effortlessly once you board the ship.

Norwegian Cruise Line's Giving Joy contest highlights the connection between travel and education, celebrating and commemorating the commitment that teachers have to enlightening young minds. Since 2019, Norwegian's Giving Joy campaign has received over 60,00 teacher nominations; more than 1.8 million votes; awarded over 270 educators with a vacation of a lifetime; and donated upwards of $445,000 to teachers and their schools with the support from NCL's partners.

As part of the 2024 campaign prizing, roundtrip airfare is included for the winners and their guest, in-part by a generous donation from Coca-Cola ® , NCL’s beverage partner.

Norwegian Aqua sets new standards and delivers brand-new guest experiences with an overall 10 percent size and capacity increase from its sister ships within the Prima Class. The ship will offer guests and Giving Joy winners an exceptional experience with more outdoor space and the highest staffing levels of any new contemporary cruise ship. While on board, the winners will have an opportunity to experience the world's first hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide, the Aqua Slidecoaster, featuring three stories of exciting twists and turns around the ship's funnel; indulge in the Company's first upscale Thai restaurant, 'Sukhothai'; experience the new dedicated plant-based venue, 'Planterie'; and unwind with a well-deserved glass of wine at 'Swirl Wine Bar', Norwegian Aqua's new contemporary wine lounge.

Building upon NCL's history of supporting educators through its award-winning Giving Joy campaign, earlier this summer the company debuted a year-round Teacher Cruise Discount , further extending its gratitude for the dedicated teacher community. Now, all education professionals including active Classroom Teachers (PreK-12), Principals and Assistant Principals (PreK-12), School Employees (PreK-12) and College/University Professors, can enjoy a five percent discount off any NCL voyage from anywhere in the world, as well as a $50 onboard credit to enhance their cruise vacation.

Passengers who spent $896k for world cruise stranded in same place for 3 months

The villa vie residences' odyssey docked in belfast on may 30 but is still yet to set sail as it undergoes repairs - leaving those on board at a loose end in the city..

passengers wait for ship to be ready

Passengers on a world cruise have been stranded in Belfast for three months due to a series of delays with their ship. This couple booked 51 back-to-back cruises, but this three-month saga was unplanned for, which comes with the territory when signing up for a cruise, to expect the unexpected, it's been reported.

The Odyssey, owned by Villa Vie Residences, docked at Queen's Island in Northern Ireland for repairs before its scheduled departure on May 30 for the first leg of a three-year cruise.

However, issues with its rudders and gearbox have kept the ship and its passengers stuck in Belfast.

  • Man buys historic 1950s cruise ship on Craigslist complete with 85 cabins
  • Couple book 51 cruises back-to-back on epic retirement vacation

Florida resident Holly Hennessey, who is traveling with her cat, Captain, said those on board have "hunkered down" and made the city their temporary home while waiting for the ship to be repaired.

Although they can spend their days on the ship, they must leave in the evenings.

passengers wait for ship to be ready

"We can spend all day aboard the ship, and they provide shuttle buses to get on and off," Ms Hennessey told the BBC. "We can have all of our meals and they even have movies and trivia entertainment, almost like cruising except we're at the dock."

Despite adapting to life in Belfast, Ms Hennessey said the rainy weather has been the biggest surprise. "I've never had so much use for my umbrella in my life, and I carry my raincoat everywhere I go," she said.

Passengers aboard the Villa Vie Residences' Odyssey were given the unique opportunity to purchase their cabins outright, rather than paying a daily rate. This allowed them to stay on board for the initial three-year tour.

According to the company's website, cabin prices range from $95,000 to an eye-watering $896,000. Ms Hennessey, one of the passengers, enjoys a small living area with room for her cat , a balcony, and a double bed.

The company is making every effort to "relieve the anxiety" of passengers stranded onboard by planning trips and other cruises.

Angela and Stephen Theriac, also stuck on the ship, have made the most of their situation by visiting Spain , England, and Greenland while waiting for the cruise to be repaired.

Dr David Austin, another passenger from Georgia , US, confessed he has stopped "counting down" the days until the ship is ready to sail. "The payoff of seeing the world in this fashion is too great to feel too disappointed with each delay announcement," he said.

"I was committed, having sold my house right before my arrival, and I've stayed committed to this adventure with every delay."

Mike Petterson, CEO and founder of Villa Vie Residences', anticipates the cruise will set sail by the end of next week. "We're not focused on the next days or weeks, we are focused on the rest of our lives and what this company will do for the residents and the industry," he stated.

Despite a three-month setback for passengers, Mr. Petterson emphasized that Villa Vie Residences' Odyssey stands out as the first "affordable" residential cruise ship, boasting excursions to 147 countries.

"When you're the first at doing something, you will run into hiccups, but we're definitely getting there, and although we are late, we will launch," he assured.

Conservancy Still Hunting for Pier, Options for Historic Ship

  • August 25, 2024

SS United States

With less than one month left to try to save the 1952-built ocean liner, the SS United States Conservancy shared an update about the future of the SS United States.

After seeing the U.S. District Court denying its request for additional time to move the vessel from its current berth in Philadelphia , the not-for-profit organization said that a search for a new pier location is still ongoing.

“The race against time for the SS United States continues to tick down,” the group said in a social media update, while adding that it continues to do everything possible to give the ship a future where it can be experienced by future generations.

Following a long legal battle with Penn Warehousing, which owns the pier where the vessel is currently docked, the Conservancy received an eviction order in mid-June.

At the time, Senior Judge Anita Brody gave the group a 90-day notice to move the SS United States , which expires on Sep. 12, 2024.

“While the court ruled that the original deadline stands, Judge Brody indicated that if the Conservancy enters into a contract to move the vessel to a new location by Sep. 12, she expects that a good faith negotiation be undertaken to allow the ship’s safe and proper relocation at a later date,” the organization said, adding that the parties will likely be called back to court in early September to discuss their progress.

The group also said that it is preparing for a meeting with “the highest levels of the U.S. Navy” to further discuss potential temporary locations that could be available and suitable for the SS United States.

The Conservancy noted that it continues to discuss options with many private pier owners and has held discussions for locations in South Carolina, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

According to the update, the court also ruled that the Conservancy is legally obligated to further advance alternative options for the SS United States if a new pier cannot be found in short order.

Options include converting the ship into an artificial reef or recycling it, the group added, confirming that it’s discussing the first option with two counties in Florida.

As reported by Cruise Industry News earlier this month , the Escambia’s County Board recently examined the acquisition of the ship for a reefing project.

“(Reefing) presents several advantages over scrapping the vessel, including the activation of her economic and tourism potential. Artificial reefs also enhance marine habitat and ecosystems,” the Conservancy said.

The group also shared an update about its fundraising campaign , saying it has now received over $250,000 to pay for a potential move and other important expenses.

“In addition, if we succeed in securing a new berth for the ship, two anonymous donors have committed additional pledges totaling well into the six figures,” the Conservancy added.

Flights, theme parks and cruises all affected as Idalia nears Florida

Idalia grew to a Category 2 hurricane Tuesday as it drives a potentially deadly  storm surge  toward the Big Bend area of Florida's west coast. It's expect to make landfall Wednesday.

A hurricane warning was issued along hundreds of miles of Florida coastline.

"Everybody on the Gulf Coast from Tampa Bay to northwest Florida must be vigilant," Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a news briefing. "You're going to see some nasty weather."

Idalia is already impacting travel, causing some airports, airlines, cruise lines and theme parks to announce operational changes.

From airport closures and theme park delayed openings to airline waivers and rerouted cruise ships, here’s what you need to know.

Tampa International Airport closed to all commercial airline traffic at 12:01 a.m. local time on Tuesday, and will remain closed until crews can assess any damage after the storm passes, with a tentative plan to reopen Thursday morning.

“The closure will allow the airport and its partners to prepare the airfield and terminals, including the securing of jet bridges, ground equipment and any remaining aircraft before Idalia’s expected landfall early Wednesday as a potential major hurricane,” the airport said in a statement. “The airport, including the main terminal and airsides will be closed to all visitors and is not equipped to function as a shelter.”

Southwest Florida International Airport near Ft. Myers and Jacksonville International Airport have not announced any closures, but the operators said they are monitoring the storm. Other major airports, including Miami International and Orlando International, have not made announcements about possible impacts but are expected to be outside the storm's central path.

The following airlines are offering travel waivers for passengers booked to fly to parts of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas in the coming days. Check with each carrier for the exact terms of the extra flexibility.

Theme parks

Central Florida’s theme parks are keeping a close eye on Idalia.

▶ Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and Adventure Island water park will both close early Tuesday, at 3 p.m. Busch Gardens will remain closed Wednesday with plans to reopen Thursday. Adventure Bay will stay closed through Thursday and plans to reopen Friday.

“Precautions are in place following the parks’ comprehensive weather preparedness plan to ensure the safety of our animals and ambassadors during this time,” Busch Gardens posted on its website, with a similar warning on Adventure Island’s site. “If this affects your trip, be sure to review our Weather-or-Not Assurance and check back for more updates.”

▶ Their sister park SeaWorld Orlando, hasn’t announced any closures, but also has a Weather-or-Not Assurance policy in place for extreme weather. The new policy, unveiled last week, gives guests a 12-month return window if inclement weather causes parks to close early or adjust operating hours, rides are closed for at least 60 minutes due to weather, or the heat index reaches 110 degrees or more.

▶ LEGOLAND Florida will remain open Wednesday, but its website notes, "While LEGOLAND Theme Park, Water Park, Peppa Pig Theme Park and our LEGOLAND hotels will be open as planned, guests may experience limited park operations on Wednesday due to changing weather conditions."

The resort's hurricane policy allows guests to cancel or rebook visits without penalty if the National Hurricane Center issues a tropical storm or hurricane warning within seven days of guests’ arrival.

▶ Universal Orlando Resort is operating normally Wednesday with one exception: early park admission will not be offered to allow time for additional preparations related to the storm. Universal's hotels remain fully operational.

"We have plans and procedures for significant weather that are both time-proven and constantly updated – and those plans revolve around the safety of our guests and team members," Universal said in a statement to USA TODAY.

The resort's severe weather policy offers penalty-free rebooking and cancellations for vacation packages, hotel stays and tickets booked directly through Universal in the event of a tropical storm or hurricane warning or state of emergency declaration in the Orlando area within seven days of guests’ arrival.

▶ Walt Disney World theme parks are operating under normal conditions, however Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf and Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf will be closed Wednesday.

Disney's resort hotels remain open, but guests of Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground have been asked to store outside items and camper awnings.

"At this time, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of August 28, 2023 through September 4, 2023," Disney said in a statement. "Guests currently staying at our Disney Resort hotels whose travel plans have been impacted by the storm may receive a discounted rate to extend their stay through the evening of August 31, if needed, by visiting the front desk."

Additionally, Florida residents evacuating from the storm and first responders assisting with it are eligible for a 50% discount on new bookings from Aug. 29 through 31. The resort is also offering to serve as a staging area for the state's storm recovery efforts.

Cruise lines

The storm is also impacting some cruise sailings.

▶ Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady ship will visit Grand Turk on Tuesday instead of Mexico’s Costa Maya “for the safety and comfort” of its guests and crew, a spokesperson said in an email. The ship is currently on a five-day, round-trip sailing from Miami, according to CruiseMapper .

“Our arrival and departure times remain unchanged, giving (passengers) the same amount of time to explore off the ship,” the spokesperson said.

▶ Disney Cruise Line also altered the itinerary for Disney Fantasy, which is currently on a week-long sailing from Port Canaveral.

“Instead of visiting Cozumel, Mexico, George Town, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth, Jamaica, the Disney Fantasy is visiting Tortola, British Virgin Islands, on Tuesday and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, on Wednesday,” a spokesperson said in an email. The ship will stop at the line’s private island, Castaway Cay, on Friday as planned.

▶ Celebrity Cruises, which is also part of Royal Caribbean Group, is also amending Celebrity Equinox’s current six-day voyage from Fort Lauderdale , stopping in Falmouth rather than Grand Cayman.

▶ Royal Caribbean International’s Grandeur of the Seas — which is currently on a week-long sailing from Tampa — will skip a stop in Costa Maya and postponed its Monday visit to Cozumel until Thursday, according to a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson.

▶ MSC Cruises is also swapping MSC Meraviglia’s visits to Miami and Nassau, a spokesperson said in an email. The ship, which is on a two-week cruise from New York , will now visit Nassau on Wednesday and Miami on Friday.

The line’s MSC Seaside will skip a planned visit to the line’s private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, on Tuesday and extend its stop in Nassau. The ship is on an 11-day cruise from Port Canaveral .

▶ Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Conquest will also change course during its current four-day cruise from Miami, according to a spokesperson. The ship will visit Bimini on Tuesday in place of Key West; spend Wednesday at sea instead of a stop in Cozumel; and stop in Nassau in place of a sea day on Thursday.

Carnival Valor’s planned stop in Costa Maya on Monday was canceled. The ship, which is on a five-day cruise from New Orleans, will visit Cozumel on Tuesday.

Upscale cruising is coming to a new port in Florida — one you might not expect

Gene Sloan

Fans of upscale cruises are about to have a new option for sailings to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal .

Upscale cruise operator Oceania Cruises on Wednesday announced it would begin regular sailings to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal out of Tampa in 2026 — a first for the line.

It'll mark the first time an "ultra-premium" cruise line such as Oceania has operated out of Tampa. The cruise port typically serves as a hub for mass-market brands such as Carnival Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line .

Oceania said its 670-passenger Insignia would operate out of Tampa starting in March 2026 for an initial two-month season of sailings ranging from seven to 20 nights.

The new routings will include stops at the islands of St. Thomas, St. Kitts and Tortola; Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico; and Belize City, Belize, among other destinations in the Caribbean.

Several of the sailings will include a daylight transit of the Panama Canal paired with an overnight stay in Panama City.

"Port Tampa Bay represents an exciting new chapter as Oceania Cruises becomes the first ultra-premium cruise line to have dedicated voyages from Tampa, opening the door as a convenient gateway to Florida's west coast and the Gulf of Mexico," Oceania Cruises president Frank Del Rio said in a statement accompanying the announcement.

"This is a natural expansion for our brand, as Tampa echoes the cosmopolitan essence of our beloved hometown of Miami with its diverse mix of international influences and cultures," Del Rio added.

In a statement, Port Tampa Bay president and CEO Paul Anderson said the port was thrilled with Oceania's move.

"The arrival of Insignia marks a significant milestone, enhancing Tampa's status as a premier cruise destination," Anderson said. "We look forward to welcoming new guests to our beautiful city and gateway, as the increased tourism will create substantial economic opportunities for our region, workers, and businesses."

The new Oceania sailings from Tampa will include:

  • A 15-night "Leeward Isles Serenade" sailing with stops at San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas; St. Maarten (the Dutch side of the island of St. Martin), Antigua, Dominica, St. Kitts, St. Croix and Tortola
  • A seven-night "Western Caribbean Escape" voyage with stops at Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico; Belize City; and the island of Roatan in Honduras
  • A 10-night "Palms & Panama Canal" voyage through the Panama Canal that also brings stops at Cozumel; Costa Maya; Belize City; Roatan; Puerto Limon, Costa Rica; Colon, Panama; and Panama City (for an overnight stay)
  • A 20-night "Panama Canal Connoisseur" sailing through the Panama Canal that also has stops at Cozumel; Costa Maya; Belize City; Roatan; Puerto Limon; Colon; Panama City; Cartagena, Colombia; Willemstad, Curacao; Oranjestad, Aruba; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and George Town, Grand Cayman

The latter sailing begins in Tampa but ends in Miami.

"Ultra-premium" is a term that cruise industry insiders use to denote cruise brands that are more upscale and expensive than the typical mass-market cruise brands but not quite as high-end as the top luxury lines.

Tampa currently is home to ships from four main lines — all of which are considered mass-market brands and not upscale or luxury brands. They are Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises .

In addition to Oceania, one other higher-end cruise brand, Regent Seven Seas Cruises , is planning to operate cruises out of Tampa in late 2026 — months after Oceania arrives. However, Regent only plans two such sailings, and it isn't planning to keep a ship in Tampa for a longer season of voyages.

A sister brand to Oceania, Regent is considered a luxury line and not an ultra-premium line.
