The Best Wrinkle-Free Women’s Clothes for Travel, According to Frequent Fliers

Relaxed Air Travel

You’ve tried packing cubes and rolling your shirts up Marie Kondo –style and yet, most likely, all your clothes still come out of your suitcase wrinkled when you reach your destination. Or maybe you have an important meeting right after landing , and your once-polished outfit looks rumpled after hours in economy . Like other travel dilemmas — finding a bag that’ll fit under the seat in front of you or trying to sleep on a transcontinental flight — arriving with a suitcase full of wrinkly clothes can be solved. To avoid pricey hotel dry-cleaning services, or risky sessions with your in-room ironing board, we asked nine women in the travel business to recommend the best pieces to wear and pack while you’re away.

Best wrinkle-free pants for travel

Eileen Fisher Ankle Length Straight Pants with Gathered Waist

For travel pants that are comfortable, stylish and low-maintenance, Jeralyn Gerba, co-founder and editorial director of Fathom , likes easy pieces from Eileen Fisher . “She’s known for researching and developing materials that are responsible, sustainable, and high-performance while also being crazy chic,” says Gerba. “I love her uncrushable Tencel, a tree fiber textile produced with near zero waste — the drawstring pants and blazers look really good after long-haul flights.” The adjustable drawstring allows for in-flight comfort while the textured crepe lends them a sophisticated look.

Athleta Skyline Pant

A similar pair at a lower price point, these slim, drawstring pants are a favorite of Sarah Corsa, a trip designer at Journy . She likes that they’re “lightweight and rarely wrinkle.” Gerba also looks to Athleta for “casual basics with the occasional flair,” and says their athleisure pieces offer “a nice alternative to the straight-up sweats uniform” while traveling.

Outdoor Voices RecTrek Pant

Outdoor Voices, makers of our favorite “sleek and tailored” sweatpants, are another frequent flier go-to for easy-to-wear pieces that’ll look fresh after a long journey. Journy co-founder Leiti Hsu, calls the RekTrek pants “the ultimate in comfort.” She says they “stay crisp from laundry cycle to laundry cycle” and “look way more pulled-together than yoga pants.”

The Row Tao Straight-Leg Stretch-Cotton Pants

“I have a few pairs of stretchy but tailored trousers from The Row that are incredibly comfortable and easy to pack,” says Jen Rubio, co-founder and chief-brand officer of Away . They’ll give an outfit more polish than a jogger-type pant while still being wrinkle-resistant and non-constricting on long flights. Rubio says she’ll pair hers with a T-shirt and leather jacket.

Betabrand Dress Pant Yoga Pants

Based in San Francisco, the clothing start-up Betabrand sells pieces based on crowd-sourced designs, like these trouser-style pants that come highly recommended by Larissa Hayden, deputy director of events at Atlas Obscura . She likes that they’re crafted “with comfort, durability, and professionalism in mind,” and have all the comfort of stretchy sweats.

Best wrinkle-free leggings for travel

American Eagle High-Waisted Jegging

If you’d rather go the leggings route, Melissa Hie of Girl Eat World swears these jeggings “look exactly like jeans but are very stretchy and comfortable like leggings.” She says, “I would just pair this with a comfortable button-up shirt if I need to look somewhat put together straight off the plane.”

Calzedonia Thermal Leather-Effect Leggings

For leggings that can be dressed up, Hsu likes this expensive-looking (but actually quite affordable) faux -leather pair. “Tuck them in your carry-on for a sexy go-to that [can go from] day to dinner in any city,” she says. “They’re secretly lined with cozy fleece on the inside; all the better to brave your next winter dining adventure.”

Best wrinkle-free tops for travel

Uniqlo Rayon Long-Sleeve Blouse

Travelers love Uniqlo’s affordable and durable pieces for comfort and style. Hie says their button-downs are perfect for wearing with leggings to easily look put-together. And while she normally prefers natural fabrics, when it comes to travel she says, “I go with polyester-blend fabrics since they don’t wrinkle as much.” Like polyester, rayon is far more wrinkle-resistant than cotton or linen.

Loft Ruffle Henley Utility Blouse

Also polyester, but with a silky feel and sweet ruffle details, this packable top is one of Corsa’s favorites. “It can be worn in basically any climate, for tons of occasions,” she says. “It never wrinkles and still looks new after years.”

Uniqlo Heattech Turtleneck Long-Sleeve T-Shirt

Gerba calls Uniqlo’s warming Heattech turtleneck, an essential layering piece for cold-weather travel or even ice-cold planes, “basic, but solid.” In warmer climates, Stephanie Park, co-founder and vice-president of operations at Journy, likes the brand’s AIRism line. “Not only do the breathable base layers release heat and moisture to adapt to different weather conditions, but they also remain remarkably wrinkle-free, even after long flights,” she says.

Theory Bringam Crepe Top

According to Rubio, Theory’s “crepe knits will never wrinkle, no matter how much of an overpacker you are,” which is good news if you need to look professional right after a red-eye flight.

Best wrinkle-free dresses for travel

Love, Bonito Reiley A-Line Dress

Simple, packable slip dresses were called out by several travelers as highly versatile items. Hie opts for colorful ones from Singapore-based, women-founded brand Love, Bonito. “They are made out of a polyester blend and [don’t] t get wrinkled even if they are straight out of the suitcase,” she says. “I love them because they are very basic, which means I can pair them with accessories to dress them up or down.”

Nili Lotan Silk Slipdress

Rubio counts her black Nili Lotan slip dress as ones of her perfect travel pieces that’s “practical and comfortable, yet stylish and versatile so that my look can easily transition from day to night.” She’ll wear it with a blazer and loafers on the plane, and switch to boots once she lands. And while it may seem like a fussy pick, Gerba says she frequently packs silk because “it looks good, weighs nothing, and its wrinkles fall out easily.”

Everlane Japanese GoWeave Tank Wrap Dress

For a fraction of the price, Journy trip designer Lauren Witte likes this bright Everlane wrap dress which, she says, is also “made out of wrinkle-resistant fabric,” and can work for both casual and dressier events.

Wolford Asymmetric Dress

If slip dresses aren’t your style, Hsu says she’s “obsessed with Wolford’s selection of stretchy dresses that roll up almost as tiny as hosiery.” Since it takes up barely any space she says they’re the ideal “just-in-case” dresses to pack if the need to dress up arises, and she calls her simple, black sheath “a lifesaver.”

Best wrinkle-free layers for travel

Eileen Fisher Stand-Collar Open Blazer

Like the Eileen Fisher pants recommended by Gerba, this blazer is made of Tencel and can withstand long flights and not-so-tidy packing. Plus, as several of our travel pros noted, blazers play well with basics like lightweight tops and cami dresses, giving you some mix-and-match outfits for your journey without having to overpack.

Loro Piana Cashmere Fringe-Trim Opera Stole

“A black versatile cashmere wrap is a must-have for my busy travel schedule,” says Elizabeth Fuller, director of marketing and partnerships at Black Tomato . “It doubles as a blanket on a chilly flight and won’t wrinkle if you stow it in your carry on to go through security.” She likes the very elegant. fringed Loro Piano version, but if you’re on a budget, the under-$100 silk-blended wrap from cashmere startup Naadam will also do the trick.

Reformation Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater

Like Fuller, Hsu thinks quality cashmere is a worthwhile travel investment. “Compared with other fabrics, cashmere doesn’t require washing all that often and is naturally temperature moderating,” she says, making it a natural fit for an on-the-go lifestyle. Her favorites are classic cuts with unique details from brands like Reformation and Rag & Bone .

My Anatomie Travel Capsule Wardrobe: Best Wrinkle Free Travel Clothes for Women

Sharing is Caring!

I have this thing. If I have really nice clothing – like, favourite stylish travel clothes, I tend not to wear them as often as I’d like to. Instead, I still wear wrinkle-free travel clothes – but cheaper, older, less comfortable, or less stylish clothes and I justify keeping my favourites in the (proverbial) closet (which for me is actually my luggage ), so I can save them for a more “special” occasion.

lightweight travel women's clothing

I saw Loretta LaRoche speak at a conference. She grew up being told by her mother that she could only wear her nice underwear on special occasions. Thing is, there was never an occasion special enough to put on these “party pants”. She also poked fun at people who have sitting rooms they never sit in, with nice furniture covered in protective plastic. Her theory was that we could all love life a lot more if we enjoyed the things we have rather than perpetually saving them for another day….a day that may never come.

I’m here to say it’s time to wear our party pants.

I have traveled with two tiny packing cubes of easy care travel clothes from Anatomie Travel Clothing for three weeks, in true capsule wardrobe fashion. It changed the way I will travel (and live!) forever.

NOTE: This article was originally published in 2016, and gets updated regularly – at least once a year. Some of the styles pictured here have been discontinued; I’ve replaced some with newer shots, but I also wanted to show that I’ve been wearing Anatomie clothes for over a DOZEN years! Even though some styles come and go, the signature materials, design ethics, elevated style, and travel-friendly properties remain constant.

My Journey With Anatomie Travel Clothing

The birth of the Anatomie capsule wardrobe idea

I visited Anatomie Travel Clothing’s headquarters in Miami. I’d been a fan of Anatomie for years already; they sent me my first outfit in 2012 – an outfit that is still going strong, all these years (and abuse) later. (See also: Anatomie – My New Favourite Travel Clothing )

Shawn and Kate (Anatomie’s co-founders) talked about cost-per-wear. While doing some math, I realized that their prices (a stumbling block for me) weren’t as high as I’d initially thought if I worked out how many miles I could get out of them – literally and figuratively. So, I threw out my jeans .

I returned to Anatomie’s headquarters a second time with a furrowed brow. My favourite travel pants – the Kate Skinny Cargo pants, which I got just a couple of years prior – had worn in the strangest of ways. It led to concerns about the quality of their travel clothes on the whole. My original capris were doing great! Why had the Kate pants deteriorated like this in a fraction of the time?

Anatomie was churning out a huge number of new styles at the time, becoming a highly-recognized brand name in the luxury market as the ultimate travel clothes for women. Had they grown too big for their own good?

Luckily, my concerns were assuaged when I received a brand new pair of Kate pants and was assured that any customer with a similar problem would be afforded the same treatment. They said that occasionally material from the end of a roll could do funny things like this, and while they hadn’t seen this particular problem before, they would look out for it in the future.

While Anatomie may be growing exponentially, they still pride themselves on superior service and developing long-term relationships with their customers, as evidenced by the expedient replacement of my defective pants, their personal style concierge service, and more.

Not only did they replace my Kate pants, but they loaded me up with a whole bunch of new styles and Anatomie “ Travel Essential ” pieces. (Travel Essentials are styles they carry year after year because they’re so popular, and customers get angry if Anatomie stops making them.)

With this gift of new clothes, they issued me a challenge: pack and wear only Anatomie clothes for my next trip. So, I did; the next opportunity I had to leave my big suitcase I armed myself for three weeks with two wee packing cubes of Anatomie clothes.

Here’s what I learned about what makes for the best wrinkle free travel clothes for women. (See the end of this post for an exact list of what I traveled with, so you can design your own ideal travel capsule wardrobe).

Two packing cubes, used for my Anatomie travel capsule wardrobe challenge

Before we go any further, I must tell you that I have received a ton of Anatomie clothing for free since the beginning of my partnership. I’ll also add that I’ve bought many styles for myself at retail prices. I put my money where my mouth is, and I endorse Anatomie for having terrific travel clothes for women. As such, if you click on any of the links in this post and buy Anatomie clothes, I will receive a small commission. It doesn’t affect your price, and it helps me keep running The Professional Hobo . I appreciate your support in advance!

Quality travel clothing will go the distance – literally and figuratively.

My Cargo Capris (since discontinued, though keep an eye on the Anatomie website – they occasionally revive them for a season) are still going strong since getting them in 2012. This is one style that I haven’t saved for special occasions; over the years, I’ve worn these pants more than any other pair of pants I’ve owned. Like, ever. After all these years of abuse, the material is softer and even comfier.

I’ve washed them in dodgy washing machines around the world, and they’ve even seen a few dryers (which you’re not supposed to do, FYI). The only thing I can say is that the material has thinned out a little (but not so much as to be a problem), and has also stretched out a little (due to my own weight gain/loss/gain/loss/etc. over the years).

Regarding fit in general, Anatomie advises that you can expect that the signature stretch wrinkle-free material used for their pants will stretch over time (it’s what makes Anatomie pants a custom fit, as it stretches to hug your curves perfectly). More on this later.

Washing and Drying

If you’re traveling with a limited (capsule) wardrobe, washing and drying must be easy.

Need to dry your pants in a hurry? A simple hairdryer will do the trick in just a few mins! (Almost) everything Anatomie offers is machine washable in cold water.

Machine dryers, in general, are horrible on your clothes (they exponentially accelerate deterioration), nor are they particularly environmentally friendly. Luckily most Anatomie styles dry quickly, usually overnight.

Wrinkle Free Packing

Packing light means not having a lot of space. Irons are not an option.

Are you worried about cramming those expensive duds into a packing cube ? Don’t. Anatomie makes easy care travel clothes, and although some pieces may come out of your luggage looking wrinkled, the wrinkles easily fall out as soon as you put them on. You will love their wrinkle resistant fabrics, life-changing!

Other styles made of crazy comfy jersey and mesh (here are their current lightweight jackets and wide variety of shirts ) are truly wrinkle free in all respects. Scrunch it up in a ball in your bag. I dare ya.

Comfort Vs. Style

There’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable. Except perhaps, being underdressed.

Luckily there’s no compromise! I’m just as comfy in my Luisa skinny jeans  on a plane as I am in a pair of leggings. Except, I’m wearing something considerably more stylish than leggings.

Even the Andrea Contrast Panel leggings are more-than-leggings.

For me, the perfect travel wardrobe has stylish travel clothes, without being pretentious. Regardless of whether you’re dressed up or down, you’re comfortable. Travel throws you enough curveballs; you’d better be comfy in your second skin.

On the topic of comfort, their Pima Cotton Tank Tops  are made from Pima cotton, from Peru. I was ambivalent when they suggested I try it out ( it’s a plain tank top….kinda boring right? ), but it quickly became my absolute favourite top to wear. It’s suuuuuuuper soft, breathable, won’t shrink, goes with everything, and just like most of Anatomie’s styles, can be machine washed (on cold), and will dry fast.

The Pam Mesh Panel Long Sleeve Top from Anatomie is great wrinkle free travel clothing!

Staying Warm

Cool/cold weather is the biggest challenge to packing light. The secret is in layering.

Most of Anatomie’s travel clothing styles are very lightweight – which is both a selling point and a challenge. The signature stretch fabric used to make most of their pants is light as a feather, which means it won’t weigh you down as you take off, but if you’re taking off to chilly places, you might be cold.

Over the years, I’ve found ways to circumvent these challenges:

Layer Under. While most of Anatomie’s travel pants are slim-fitting, there’s still room for a pair of leggings underneath for added warmth.

Layer Over. This is where Anatomie’s travel jackets shine. While one of their mesh jackets is ridiculously comfortable over a tank top and takes the edge off a summer night, it’s also warmer than it looks and can be worn over a long-sleeved top (which also shows through the mesh, and looks very nice).

The same goes for the Kenya Safari Jacket , which is hands-down their most popular travel jacket , and for good reason. It’s roomy enough to go over thicker under-layers, yet form-fitting enough to be super stylish and flattering.

lightweight travel women's clothing

If you find yourself in even chillier climes, they have a selection of quilted, cashmere, and even leather styles. I still have a style of an Anatomie travel jacket (which they don’t carry anymore) that is ideal for shoulder season climates.

Anatomie travel jackets go the mile for comfort and style!

2024 UPDATE: I spent a whole winter in a snowy mountain town, with the help of Anatomie’s new Cozy Essentials lineup ! Their fleece-lined signature styles (like the Kenya Jacket and Skyler Pants) are literally the comfiest clothes I own – super stretchy and soft. And lucky for me, they’re also the most stylish clothes I own. Best of all worlds!

lightweight travel women's clothing

Free Returns and Clothing Guarantees

Spending a lot of money on the perfect travel capsule wardrobe? Free returns are critical.

I’m still leery of ordering clothes online. Even with sizing charts, you just never know how something will fit.

Anatomie understands this, and orders placed in the U.S. include free returns . And rumour has it they’re going to offer free returns to Canadian customers very soon too!

So if you’re curious about how that shirt or pair of pants will fit, there’s no risk in ordering it and finding out first-hand.

The same goes for clothing defects. While normal wear and tear are on your own dime, if there’s a problem with an Anatomie style, they’ll send you a new pair, as I experienced myself. Anatomie wants you to be 100% happy with your clothes, as they’ve demonstrated to me repeatedly.

Travel Clothing for Women with Curves

Most people aren’t models. So how do we know if those pants will actually fit AND look good?

Over the years, I’ve grown, and not just emotionally! While I’m not disproportionate or overweight, my measurements baffle many sizing charts.

While trying to order pants and a shirt from (another) online clothing company, I couldn’t figure out which sizes to get. According to their sizing charts, I was somewhere between a Small and Medium for the shirt (but my bust measurement said I should be Large – and believe me, my boobs aren’t that spectacular).

When it came to my lower half, my self-esteem “bottomed” out. While I was accustomed to being a size 6-8, my recent weight gain put me in the (8-10) category. This particular clothing company’s size 12 looked like it would still be too small. And….size 12 was their largest size. Who does that?!?! I have no idea what other curvy women would do if they tried to order anything from this company. (To their credit, my complaints inspired them to change their sizing charts, which is why they shall remain nameless in this post.) I simply share this story here as an example of how screwed up sizing is across the board, especially when it comes to women’s pants.

Shawn (Anatomie’s co-founder and chief designer) stood by while I tried on a huge variety of clothes, and he told me how they’re supposed to fit and made specific sizing recommendations.

Even though I wanted to err on the side of caution with larger sizes, Shawn warned me that most of Anatomie’s pants stretch up to a whole size over time ; and my older Anatomie pants are testament to this. So, if your own Anatomie travel pants are a bit tight to begin with, never fear: their signature stretch fabric is a bit of a miracle-worker and will mold to your curves perfectly with time.

Loving the Kenya Safari Jacket by Anatomie: best wrinkle free travel clothing for women

Here are some observations about how Anatomie’s stylish travel clothes are made for curvy women :

  • The Suzette Skort  has built-in jersey bicycle shorts. While this does add a bit to the packing weight and bulk, my thighs thanked me; can you say “ no thigh rub?? ” (Not a fan of the short skirt? I get it. Here are their current dresses , which include some super classy styles. I own their Marine Travel Dress , which is super flattering for all figures and made of a material that can literally be balled up and stuffed into a corner of my luggage and come out ready for the runway).
  • I asked Shawn which styles of Anatomie’s travel pants are best for the curvy woman; he said the Kate Pant  (which I can attest to). More recently, Anatomie has come out with a whole line of pants for curvy women! You can now shop their entire site by body type , which is very useful.
  • Not all women appreciate tight shirts. While I do recommend having at least one somewhat form-fitting tank top and long-sleeved top for layering underneath jackets and such, I also like having a “let it all hang out” sort of top. Anatomie has a selection of looser-fitting tops that will turn heads; just have a browse through the store to see their latest designs, as their styles are always changing.

Not sure yourself? Here is one of the many bangs you get for your buck with Anatomie, in addition to free returns and quality guarantees: their personal Style Concierge will assist you with personalized fit and styling tips . You’ll find their personal email on the Contact page of the website, and their assistance is very valuable (and of course, free).

Anatomie Wrinkle Resistant Clothing Recommendations

Here is what I packed when I took the challenge to travel with only Anatomie clothing. Note: many of the exact items I took with me have been discontinued. I’ve switched them out here with new items (that I own) which are comparable replacements. Depending on the climate at your destination, you might want to adjust this selection. For example when visiting a hot climate you’ll want to switch out a jacket or long-sleeved shirt for another tank/tee. This travel capsule wardrobe is ideal for warm temperate weather.

Bailey Mesh Jacket (it won’t wrinkle, no matter how hard you try!)

Kenya Safari Jacket (stylish, can be worn with sleeves rolled up or down, zipped up to the neck, etc)

Calista Rollup Henley Top (pima cotton, long-sleeved), AND/OR

Alida button-down Poplin Shirt (I love this dressy shirt because the front panel is a structured material, and the arms and back are soft stretchy jersey)

Jackson Pima Cotton Tank (a staple for any travel wardrobe, perfect on its own and for layering)

Flo Tee (note: here’s their current collection of tops to choose from )

Suzette Skort (with built-in jersey bicycle shorts)

Luisa Skinny Jean OR Kate Skinny Cargo Pant (I own and adore both, but I choose just one per trip)

Darby Pant (new in 2024 to their lineup; a looser-fitting pant made with their signature stretch light material)

BONUS: My Top Packing Tips Video

I know, I know. I must sound like a psychotic cheerleader. I promise, I haven’t been drugged, nor unduly forced to write all these accolades. Anatomie approached to develop a long-term relationship, much like they do with all their customers. (The difference being, they started me off with a free outfit, which inspired my love affair with them. Lucky me!).

And as much as I love Anatomie, they love me too, and they’re fascinated at how I traveled with carry-on luggage only for two whole years! While I was visiting Anatomie’s headquarters this year, they turned on the cameras and got me to share my top packing tips for ultralight travel. Here’s what I had to say:

Noted for my wife Nora. I dig the party pants analogy. Good to know of the wrinkle free aspect too; sometimes we travel outside of the tropics. Humidity in places takes care of wrinkles fast but outside of the tropics you need quality, wrinkle-free clothes. Or an iron and board which ain’t happening around much of the world.

That is, unless you practice “extreme ironing”….in which case…..bring on the ironing board! LOL

This is a great post, with the exception of all the body shaming. What’s up with the “real” woman stuff? Is a model a “fake” woman? You’re a great writer, and I know there’s a better way you can get your point across without making some women feel like they don’t qualify as “real” women.

Hey Beck, Great observation – thank you! While curvy women seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to body image issues and persecution on a variety of levels, you are right in that I haven’t acknowledged skinny women as being “real”. I’ve removed all language that isolates any body type as being “real” or otherwise.

Thank you! It makes a difference 🙂

I’m sorry But HAVING mainly ANOREXIC MODELS EVERYWHERE ADVERTISING LADIES CLOTHING IS NOT REALISTIC AND DOES NOTHING BUT PUT UNREALISTIC IMAGES on how we should LOOK and THAT’S wrong because yes they ARE FAKE THEIR ANOREXIC AIRBRUSHED BLOWN UP/ DEFLATED ETC ( REFERRING TO DIFFERENT AREAS OF BODY) Therefore We have TOO MANY GIRLS GROWING UP WANTING 2 LOOK LIKE THAT INSTEAD OF BEING HAPPY WITH WHO THEY ARE SO THEY WIND UP DEAD!!!!!! FROM STARVATION. DEPRESSION OVERDOSE PREGNANT ALL DUE TO UNREALISTIC TOOTHPICK IMAGE MEDIA PLACES ON HOW FEMALE BODY SHOULD LOOK

AMEN TO ALL LADIES OF ALL SIZES WHO ARE NATURAL WITHOUT ANY COSMETIC SURGERY DONE!!!

I am very happy 2 see women of all sizes are finally being noticed and admired!

Nora, I was ready to like this company you love in spite of the big price tags. Just thought you should be aware how an ordinary customer is treated. I found this in the reviews from the Skyler Skinny Pant. I’m afraid that you get special treatment from the company. If they really backed up their products for defects it might be worth it. But 10% discount is nothing to compensate this woman for a messed up zipper on a very expensive pair of pants.

hannah poor policy I have purchased a pair of Anatomie pants and was very satisfied with the product, until I had the inner seam of the zipper seperate from the fabric so they are no longer wearable. I have worn the pants no more than 10 times, but being outside of the 30 days they would not help me. Since this was obviously a quality issue I feel like this says something about the company as a whole. Anatomie >> replied: Hannah, thank you for contacting us; we apologize for the inconvenience. We looked into the matter and since the pants were purchased about a year ago, and that particular style is no longer in production, we will not be able to issue a replacement. But we would like to offer you 10% off your next purchase for the inconvenience encountered. If you have any other questions, please contact us at [email protected] , we would love to help!

Hi Linda, Oh my! That’s not good. I’ve contacted the team at Anatomie to look into this. I hope there’s another side to this story, because indeed, this contradicts what I understand their customer service policy to be.

I wonder if perhaps she bought the last of a line that was being discontinued and was thus on clearance sale. Anything on super clearance wouldn’t likely be subject to the same return/exchange policy.

Nora, since I wrote the above post, I have given Anatomie a try. Customer service has been wonderful, namely Raquel. It’s very difficult to get the style and size right on first try and she’s shown some flexibility. I tried the popular Skyler pants and am lukewarm about the fit. I’m going to give your Luisa Skinny Jeans a try! (Did you by any chance try the Lora Nylon & Fleece jacket? Seems to be one of their Italian items.)

Anyway, I love your blog! I signed up for your emails and am loving your writing and all the helpful information. I’m simply thrilled!

P.S. We’re going to Cuenca January-February! We’re putting the house on the market and hope to find house-sitting gigs while we are here in the Atlanta area to give us more flexibility. We had part of this plan in process when I landed on your blog. You gave me the extra push I needed to try house-sitting and work-aways. We had already signed up for WorkAway and my nephew uses WWOOF. We’ll probably try both!

Hi Linda, I’m so very glad that you gave Anatomie a shot and that your experience has been positive! I didn’t really like the Skyler pant fit either, so I hope you like the Luisa in contrast (I think you will). I haven’t tried the Lora jacket, but it looks beautiful.

And thank you for reading! Good luck with the sale of the house (and all your stuff in it – ha ha), and I hope you enjoy your time in Cuenca. It’s a gorgeous place.

Happy Travels!

From being stylish to help you get through your daily workouts, leggings have got it all.

Amen to that!

I keep asking for someone to post a blog for clothes for women over 60. Everything I see is for twenty year old. Travelled to over 65 countries. Now in my seventies cannot wear the ridiculous clothes and shoes., no one writes for older women. Pity.

Hi Sue, I’m sorry you feel under-represented and under-served by myself and other sites. I would have thought that at least some of the styles offered by Anatomie are ageless. Many are conservative, and most are classy – especially the jackets and tops.

It seems you are raving about quite a few garments no longer made. Perhaps you should update and let us know how the replacement garments actually pack and hold up.

Lastly, cost-per-wear is simply semantics for overcharging. Much can be done with less expensive clothing. You just gotta throw on a pashmina or a bright scarf over inexpensive tops and slacks/skirts.

This is not to say expensive travel clothing doesn’t have its place. I definitely have some expensive regular clothing, since I show dogs. (Take a look at the womens’ suits worn on the Westminster telecast, including St. John’s.) But I’m buying less expensive travel clothing so I may spend my money in Florence. 😎

Hi Jennifer, I think the very fact that I’m still wearing styles I got 10 years ago (that have since been discontinued) it testament to how long Anatomie clothing lasts! I haven’t had to replace them. New designs by Anatomie (and they’re constantly updating their lineup as many fashion brands do) continue to use their signature stretch material and other travel-friendly materials. So it’s safe to assume their new styles pack and hold up just as well as all the garments I’ve gotten over the last 10 years.

As for cost-per-wear and choice of travel clothing, all that boils down to your budget and your priorities. Spending less money on clothes so you can spend more money in Florence is a perfectly justifiable decision!

As a former national sewing instructor and alterations expert, I have to respectfully disagree. Cost-per-wear is a valid calulation, but one easily forgotten in these days of disposable clothing. (I’m not talking about overpaying for a logo, but buying true quality.) Compare a dense wool winter coat or jacket with proper interfacing, interlining, thermal lining, appropriate stitching with durable high-quality thread and natural horn buttons V. a trendy coat from a big box or mall store made from a cheap blend that beads up, little if any interfacing, thin rayon lining, long stitches of flimsy poly thread and plastic buttons that doesn’t combat the cold or breathe like a natural fiber. Real quality means buy it once, take care of it, wear it for years. Or… buy cheap where only pennies of the price are spent on overseas labor and oil-based, polluting materials while the rest is spent on polluting transportation and trendy marketing, just to result in pilling within a wash or two, and sweat and stink that clings to the cheap fabric, then toss it in a landfill where it sits unchanged for generations or crate it on a pallet and ship it yet again to a poor country where starving children pick for rags. A quick google will provide a thorough and absolutely shocking education on how cheap fashion has degraded people, industry and our environment — all for a $10 pair of sweat pants that won’t last a season. If people focused their closets (and suitcases) on a classic, high-quality, long-lasting classic capsule wardrobe and supplemented with very few, cheap trendy pieces, they’d be much more comfortable, cause a lot less damage… and spend a LOT less in the long run. So the next time you compare prices, think about what went into producing the garment, the quality of the materials and construction, how long it will last, how it will hold up over time – and do that cost per wear.

Very well said and something not enough people think about. Unfortunately people on a low income (such as myself) can’t often afford to spend a lot on clothes. I am a larger women, so my choices of where to shop are limited. I wear my clothes until they wear out and hardly ever buy new clothes. I don’t have the money and find it hard to find something that suits.

This was amazing. I always seem to have the most trouble with my clothes wrinkling. I am very excited to try out your advice and see how they stand up against my clothes.

So thank you for this 🙂

Time to remove or update this post. Cannot count how many times you said an item was discontinued and I wasted time trying to find the meat of this article.

Thanks for the feedback, Laura. I update this post regularly (which is why I discuss how items have been discontinued – that’s an update!) to show that I have owned and continue to own pieces over the long term – and how long they last, and what the various styles look like. If you click through to Anatomie, you’ll see they offer a ton of new styles, but overall their look is consistent. Also, I just checked all the links I provided – they are up to date!

Some may argue that traveling by plane is an occasion to dress up, but for most of us at Traveler, comfort is the main priority when planning a transit day ensemble: You want something loose enough that you won't need to readjust (or worse, unbutton) a few hours into a flight or road trip, but put-together enough to feel that you've made a switch out of pajamas and into a true outfit. Luckily, there is no shortage of loungewear sets these days.

Read on for 35 of the best loungewear sets to add to your travel wardrobe , many of which are sitting in our editors' dresser drawers. From upscale sweatsuits to cozy cashmere knits, they'll keep you comfy whether you're sitting on a plane, train, or in the passenger seat, and will get a re-wear on lazy vacation days when the only item on your to-do list is lounging around the Airbnb .

This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date. Additional reporting by Meaghan Kenny.

The Aerie LumberJane collection has been one of the brand's more popular releases. The collection features breathable, lightweight waffle fabric in shirts, shorts, and now polos. The LumberJane polo and short set are perfect for lazy vacation days spent shuffling around in your slippers . Each piece has raw seams along the sleeves, sides, and back that gives it a more lived-in look.

Buck Mason is at the forefront of elevated essentials. The Vintage Interloop set features an oversized crew that has a relaxed fit all around and thinly ribbed stiching on the cuffs to give more structure to the slouchy sleeves. The French terry sweatpants are slimming and so comfortable. Each set looks slightly different than the other, thanks to Buck Mason's Venice Wash technique that creates its cool, vintage look.

We're always raving about Girlfriend Collective, a size-inclusive, sustainably- and ethically-made brand. This set is made from half recycled, half organic cotton. They're available in your classic neutral colors, as well as this rich wine hue.

Kim Kardashian's shapewear and loungewear brand Skims never misses when it comes to cozy sets. The Cotton Fleece collection is a more sporty take on classic loungewear. The soft fleece shorts have an interior drawstring at the waist for a more customizable fit.

This chic pullover and sweat shorts both don the recognizable Alexander Wang logo. While the set is one of the trendiest pieces on our list, you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how soft the heavy brushed cotton terry is. Style the set with a small crossbody bag and pair of chunky dad sneakers for quick errands or walks around the city.

You can never go wrong with a simple high-waisted pant and tank top combo. The Anrabess sleeveless set is lightweight and thin, making it supremely packable in any weekender bag or carry-on. At just $30, it is one of the most affordable loungewear sets on our list.

Is there anything easier than throwing on a jumpsuit? Spanx AirEssentials jumpsuit is one of the brand's bestsellers—and it's just been restocked in more colors. We love the drawstring tie at the waist that gives the jumpsuit a more fitted and flattering look.

Traveler 's commerce producer, Paris Wilson , swears by Roots' loungewear. “I've been raving about Roots for years. It's hard to find a brand that doesn't skimp on quality,” she says. The Luxe Crew and Pintuck pant are made from a cotton and cashmere blend. While the material gives it a more chic look, the fit of the set is more relaxed and loose. This can easily be dressed up or down, and would look great with a sleek pair of white sneakers .

Image may contain: Clothing, Long Sleeve, Sleeve, Adult, Person, Shorts, Knitwear, Sweater, and Sweatshirt

The loose fit of the Ramona sweatshirt compliments the brand's drawstring waist Jane shorts. The rouched terry fabric on the inside of each garment keeps you warm and cozy without overheating. As warmer days approach, the yellow dip-dye design is a must-have for your spring and summer wardrobe .

If you're looking for a more polished look, the Malibu set is for you. The set is made up of the Frank & Eileen Audrey Capelet and the Catherine Sweatpant . Each piece is made from 100 percent cotton triple fleece, making it incredibly soft. It's the perfect set for a long road trip or a chilly plane.

The Cool Stretch collection from Pact is made from breathable organic cotton. The soft, thin layers are a go-to summer fit when temperatures are high and you just want to chill inside. The tank top and shorts set comes in seven colorways and can be paired with Pact's Airplane cardigan or a cozy hoodie .

If you prefer something a little more roomy, the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant set from This is J is for you. It’s perfect for long-haul flights and road trips where comfort is at the top of your list, but you don’t want to step out in your pajamas. The soft, moisture-wicking fabric will keep you dry and comfortable whether you’re snuggled up on a train or plane.

lightweight travel women's clothing

This set is made for cold weather. The thick fabric will keep you warm and toasty whether you’re hanging inside with friends or out sightseeing. The top has a dropped shoulder sleeve that looks more oversized while the pants feature a wide-leg with a drawstring waist.. The set comes in 10 solid colors that are easy to pair with a slip-on sneaker or Ugg boots .

lightweight travel women's clothing

The soft ribbed knit of the Muse hoodie and sweatpant offers a lot of dimension to the duo. The set is lightweight enough that it can be worn over workout clothes without any bulkiness. The high-waisted joggers pair well with the cropped hoodie and offer a more chic silhouette.

lightweight travel women's clothing

You’ll be comfortable from head to toe with this ultra-soft pullover and pant set. The pants have a classic ‘70s wide-leg silhouette accompanied by an elastic waistband, while the pullover has a polo-inspired collar and a slightly cropped hem. An all-white set never goes out of style and will look great with a white sneaker .

The name tells you everything you need to know. The Coziest Cashmere Blend hoodie and jogger are ultra-soft. The fabric is warm yet breathable and the fact that it’s a blend gives you peace of mind that it won’t be ruined in the washing machine.

Traveler editors swear by Lunya's washable silk pajamas and cashmere Travel Set . The brand’s Silksweats complete its holy trinity of comfort. With a sherpa interior and thermoregulating abilities, you'll be comfortable without overheating in this set. Bonus: Both pieces are reversible so you can have two looks for one.

There's something to be said for a zip-up sweatshirt, even if they've largely been replaced by pullovers of late. For one, if your temperature flips from chilly to warm, you can regulate without bothering your seatmate while trying to take off your hoodie. We're a fan of the sweatpants, too: the deep pockets, cuffed ankles, and cashmere fabric are all plusses.

A new addition to OV's ultra-soft, lightweight, and durable CloudKnit line-up : this boxy T-shirt with a slightly cropped fit. It comes in charcoal, navy, mocha, fog white, and jasmine blue, all of which will match your go-to black leggings or joggers .

Awarded one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2020, I was eager to put on Cozy Earth's ultra-soft joggers, and am happy to report they lived up to the hype. Made of a mix of premium viscose from bamboo, acrylic, and spandex, they're smooth and cool to the touch, and have a loose but not baggy fit. I've worn them a ton on WFH days, and would happily fly in them. Snag a matching pullover if you like the matching set look.

San Francisco–based Quince launched a maternity collection, which includes a nursing-friendly long sleeve and lounge joggers with an adjustable drawstring waistband. All of the collection's pieces are made with renewable materials like Tencel lyocell, a biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp; mulberry silk, a hypoallergenic and thermoregulating fabric; the company's SuperSoft fabric, a blend of recycled polyester and tencel; and sustainably- and humanely-sourced Mongolian cashmere.

Outdoor Voices’ All Day hoodie and sweatpants set really is made to wear from dusk to dawn. It aims to be the softest pair of sweats you will ever wear, and stacks up, with a CloudKnit fabric that feels as cozy as your most worn-in pair of pajamas. The sweatpants are high-rise and more fitted toward the bottom to give the most flattering look possible, too. The pieces can be bought individually and come in six different colors, from neutral charcoal to a rich Kalamata purple.

While former Traveler editor Jessica Puckett's favorite cashmere set has since sold out, Cuyana's Pima outfit is another great option for plane travel and lounging, particularly in warmer environments, as the material is soft, smooth, and breathable.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Shorts, Human, and Person

Former Traveler editor Corina Quinn turned us on to Vuori's DreamKnit Collection hoodie and jogger set. “The DreamKnit feels like a cloud—it's so soft and cozy, yet lightweight, so you don't get too hot or too cool in them,” she says. “On top of that, because there are a few different models of jogger pants and tops, my friends and I have all found a model that's flattering for us.” For a pair of sweats that make you feel like you’re wearing a real outfit without actually doing so, Vuori’s unbelievably soft, stretchy sets are an easy pick.

Friend + Folk is a size- and gender-inclusive brand that prioritizes a limited carbon footprint, and puts it into practice by way of free carbon neutral shipping, recyclable and plastic-free packaging, limited batch-production, and more. The Joon joggers are a favorite—the fit is roomy and comfortable yet still tailored, and the zippered pockets are ideal for stashing AirPods, lip balm, and other odds and ends without worrying they'll fall out as you dash through the airport. Pair them with the Perry pullover and you've got a new airport uniform.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Human, and Person

Lululemon may be best known for its leggings and workout wear, but don't skip over the brand's loungewear. This set is made out of a smooth Softstreme material that is stretchy and feels smooth against your skin. It's a great loungewear set to wear if you run hot.

lightweight travel women's clothing

We love this Madewell number, made of a fleece-like Superbrushed terry fabric. Wide legs and a loose fit make it just the kind of thing we want to wear on long travel days, and the patch pockets are much appreciated. Since it does have tank top-style straps, bring a cardigan or other added layer for the plane.

lightweight travel women's clothing

Some loungewear is better suited for inside wear, like this cozy ribbed shorts set. Wear the pullover, with its bell sleeves and slit in the back, over leggings for long-haul flights. The stretchy shorts have a fairly short inseam, so they'll likely be more comfortable as a sleeping short or loungewear piece to change into when you arrive at your hotel or rental house.

Image may contain: Clothing, Suit, Overcoat, Apparel, Coat, Human, and Person

This two-piece set might be the closest thing to sleepwear on this list, and yet is still cute enough to feel confident while wearing through the airport. It comes in a dozen colors, from basic heather gray to bold indigo blue, and pairs slouchy, relaxed fit pants with a scoop-neck button-up henley.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Human, Person, Standing, and Pants

Sure, all sweatpants are designed to be comfortable, but the cotton, modal, and spandex fabric Knix uses takes things up a notch. The smooth, cooling, and slightly stretchy fabric feels fantastic against skin and looks a bit more put-together than typical sweatpant material.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Dress, Human, Person, and Pants

Most loungewear tends to follow the same cut, so we appreciate Monos, a luggage brand , shaking things up when delving into clothing. This set is as soft as any sweatpants out there, with a mid-length wide-leg pant and a short sleeve V-neck tee that's just slightly cropped.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, and Pants

Anything labeled Signaturesoft nails both the rest day and flying-comfortably mood we're going for. The top and bottom have a streamlined shape and the sweatpants are tapered at the ankle. Both pieces are made of a comfortable rayon, acrylic, and spandex mix, so you’ll feel cozy while still looking put together. The sweatshirt and sweatpants can be purchased individually and come in nearly a dozen colors should you want to mix and match, and the sweatshirt passes the video-conferencing-chic test, in that it looks more like a standard sweater than workout wear.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Pajamas, Human, and Person

Not a hoodie person? You might like this cowl-neck top, which comes with cropped pants, both made of a super soft jersey and spandex fabric. Shop the set in gray, sky blue, strawberry, or buttercream, and wear it on your next overnight flight to feel like you're in pajamas.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Footwear, Shoe, Human, Person, Suit, Coat, Overcoat, Sleeve, and Long Sleeve

You may never want to put on pajamas again after wearing Softwear's Lounge Set. The fabric is buttery soft inside and out. Both the pullover and joggers are tailored and fitted with a clean silhouette—the top could pass for a normal sweater—while still being ultra soft. Plus, it’s long-lasting: The sustainable fabric is pilling-resistant and made to keep its shape after every wear.

lightweight travel women's clothing

Made for pregnant or nursing moms, this Everly Grey set is designed to fit a baby bump and make nursing easier with side openings on the top. Made of stretchy fabric with cuffed ankles and wrists and pockets on the hips, it's a loose, ever-so-slightly tailored look you'll wear again and again. Order it in one of four neutral colors: black, charcoal, oyster pink, or denim blue.

Susan Play

I love the Athleta cargo pants! The zippers add a nice touch and make them fun to wear. Very versatile and comfortable. Great for travel.

Michelle

Some good leads on my quest for the ideal travel pants 👖 😊

Christina Thorson

Ripely Rader pants are my go to when I need a wrinkle free pant that is great for travel and also can be dressed up. They are stretchy but very fashionable. They look great with runners or sandals. The wide leg is chic and they are super long which for this 5’11” girl is important but they are easy to cut or tailor down if needed.

Lou Ann Glover

I’m 6’0 so I’m always looking for great pants. I’ll look these up!

Maida McLean

Athleta Brooklyn pants get my vote. Stylish and comfortable. After a long day of travel , they still look great.

Michelle Gheer

I agree. I have been wearing them all day today n the heat of Lisbon and they look like I just put them on. They also take up very little room in the suitcase.

Sandra Ruyack

I purchased the Jjill pants and love them.

Tammy

I am open to minimalist packing but my biggest worry is pants, being able to go from lots of walking to a night out on the town, with less wrinkles as possible. Especially if they are to be reworn before being able to rewash. I am excited about these options !

Rene Mohrhauser

A very complete list. I have the lululemon and several Athleta pants. All work wonderfully for travel. Also 7 diamonds are also great

Dr. Deborah Johnson-Blake

The Eddie Bauer pants are my favorite. I have at least 1 pair in every color

Kathleen Norris

I’m all about the Eddie Bauer pants! They’re compact and wrinkle-free, two things that are a necessity on longer trips.

Betsy

Loved traveling in my new Quince ponte pants-the weight of the pants was a little heavier but they looked amazing and didn’t lose shape.

Rachel

Love these suggestions! Target sometimes also has wrinkle-free pants in their All In Motion line. I’m also interested to check out the Uniqlo ones.

  • What to Look for in Travel Pants

Why Trust TripSavvy

TripSavvy / Marcus Millan

A great pair of travel pants is a lot like a great friend: supportive without being restrictive and ready for any occasion. Look for breathable, moisture-wicking materials that won’t wrinkle in your suitcase or after hours on the airplane. A relaxed fit (or plenty of stretch if you opt for form-fitting leggings) is essential for freedom of movement on your adventures, while the ability to transition from day to evening wear with the right accessories is a major plus that cuts down on packing requirements.

Finding pants that meet all these criteria can seem difficult, which is why our team of travel experts took on the task of testing 40 of the most popular options currently on the market. We wore each pair in multiple scenarios from air travel to gym workouts for two weeks, then scored them for fit, comfort, quality, durability, design, and value to choose our favorites.

Best Overall

Lululemon high-rise jogger.

  • Comfort 5 /5
  • Quality 5 /5
  • Durability 5 /5
  • Design 4.5 /5

Incredibly soft

Breathable and moisture-wicking

Versatile drawstring waistband

Some may prefer a slimmer cut

The Lululemon Stretch High-Rise Jogger may well be the perfect travel pant, with a classic, loose-fitting silhouette that we found supremely comfortable. Although they’re meant to be full-length, the tapered ankle means they look good even if they come up a little shorter on tall women, while the Luxtreme fabric’s combination of softness and stretchiness offers a slightly more elevated aesthetic than one might expect from a pair of joggers. The fabric also handles temperature changes well (as proved when we tested them on a journey from chilly San Francisco to balmy Hawaii).

We loved the buttery-soft waistband and the fact that while stretchy, these joggers also have a drawstring that you can cinch for a more tailored fit. The drawstring can be worn visibly or hidden inside for a more streamlined look. We also appreciated the extra-deep pockets, which held our phone securely even when sitting down. The pants also boast a hidden zipper pocket and card sleeve. Best of all, after multiple plane and car journeys (and three washes), the pants looked and felt brand new. Color choices are mostly muted and include kelly green, utility blue, and black.

Sizes: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 | Materials: Nylon, Lycra, elastane, polyester

Best for Work

Quince 100 percent european linen pants.

  • Design 5 /5

Flattering shape

Wrinkle-resistant material

Pull-on convenience

Some lengths available only in select colors

Pockets are purely decorative

If you’re looking for pants that you can wear straight to a meeting after arriving at the airport, look no further than the Quince Ultra-Stretch Ponte Straight Leg Pants. They offer all the convenience of traditional travel pants, with an elasticated waistband for easy on and off and four-way stretch for complete freedom of movement. But, with their straight cut and thoughtful detailing (think belt loops and faux pockets on the front and back), they are also elegant enough for the boardroom.

We love that these pants don't crease easily, so you don’t need to waste time looking for an iron in your hotel room. And finding the right size is easy with three inseam lengths to choose from. Our tester, who wears an XL and has a pear-shaped body type, loved the pants’ fit, finding them comfortable yet supportive with good tummy control (without feeling like shapewear). The only downside? We wish there were even more sizes and that all inseam lengths were available in every colorway.

Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL; 28-inch, 30-inch, 32-inch inseam | Materials: Rayon, nylon, spandex

Liverpool The Gia Glider Ankle Skinny Jean

Available in regular and tall lengths

Can be dressed up or down

Functioning pockets

Fit loosens slightly between washes

Sometimes you have to pack light and one way to do that is to opt for pants that you can dress up or down for any occasion—like the Liverpool Los Angeles The Gia Gliders. Thicker and more supportive than leggings yet stretchier, softer, and more comfortable than regular jeans, these mid-rise jeggings come in two lengths and can be pulled on in seconds. We found them amazingly comfortable, even after full days in the office, running errands, or traveling across the city.

A faux zipper, a working button, and belt loops add style points. And, although the front pockets are too small to be very useful, we really appreciated the full-size back pockets. We found that the pants offered a great range of movement (although we wouldn’t necessarily recommend them for your next yoga session!) and that they were thick enough never to have to worry about see-through areas. We did find that they bagged slightly after a few days’ wear, but they returned to their original shape after washing.

Sizes: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16; regular, tall | Materials: Cotton, rayon, modal

Best With Pockets

Wayre jetsetter trouser.

Inclusive sizing

Incredibly versatile

Eco-friendly and ethically made

Not ideal for colder weather

If you prioritize pockets when looking for the perfect pair of pants, you’ll love the Wayre Jetsetter Trousers. They offer six functional pockets: four on the sides and back, each large enough for a phone or wallet; a card pocket; and a pickpocket-proof zippered pocket capable of accommodating a passport, cash, or keys. We also love the broad range of sizes offered, including standard and tall lengths. We loved the fit, finding them true to size with a waistband that wasn’t too tight or loose, but just right.

The style is wide-legged, with a cropped length and high-rise waist. They’re comfortable on the plane or when exploring your destination but also smart enough to dress up come evening. We feel this flexibility helps to justify the pants’ admittedly high price tag. They are made of durable Aire-Flex fabric, which is breathable, spill- and odor-proof, wrinkle-resistant, and rated for UPF 30+ sun protection. It’s also Bluesign-certified for sustainability points, and available in six gorgeous colors from bronze to rose water.

Sizes: 00, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 | Materials: Aire-Flex (rPET)

Most Comfortable

Vuori performance jogger.

  • Design 4 /5

Unbelievably soft fabric

Completely non-restrictive

Can be tumble-dried

Pockets aren’t particularly functional

Cropped style may not suit all tastes

Vuori Performance Joggers are made from DreamKnit fabric: a recycled polyester and elastane blend that’s impossibly comfortable on long travel days. The pants are also breathable and moisture-wicking, with four-way stretch for full freedom of movement. The fit is slim yet relaxed, with a mid-rise waist and a tapered, cropped leg. We liked the adjustability of the drawstring waist and the fact that the fit remained consistent on every wear. Some of us who are tall weren't a big fan of the length, though.

The joggers have two side pockets, which are deep enough to hold your phone or wallet. However, we found that anything bulky looked a little odd due to the pants’ slightly clingy style. Nevertheless, we believe the durable, quality fabric makes them well worth their high-end price tag and appreciate that unlike many of the pants on this list, these ones can be tumble-dried without shrinking, stretching, or pilling. Colors range from black camo and navy to a dusky pink marsala heather.

Sizes: XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL | Materials: Recycled polyester, elastane

Best Leggings

Abercrombie & fitch ypb studiosoft legging.

  • Quality 4.5 /5

Flattering, sculpting design

Stay put, even during high-impact activities

Relatively affordable

Lighter colors may show sweat when working out

The Abercrombie YPB StudioSoft 7/8 Length Leggings are made from a super soft, stretchy, and supportive nylon and elastane blend. We loved that they were like a second skin without making us feel like a stuffed sausage. The double-layer waistband compresses without being uncomfortable for a smoothing effect, while an ultra high-rise cut and V-shaped back seaming help flatter your figure, whatever your body type. We felt that the leggings were pretty breathable, although some sweat did show through on the light color we tested.

One highlight for us was that the leggings stayed firmly in place with no sagging, looseness, or riding up no matter what we wore them for—including a high-impact gym workout. With completely unimpeded movement, we could see them performing well in any travel scenario, from sightseeing to adventure tours. There’s even a hidden interior waistband pocket for cards or keys. The leggings are the most budget-friendly on this list and come in three inseam lengths (short, regular, and long) and four colors (lilac, oat, onyx, and mineral blue).

Sizes: XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL; short, regular, long | Materials: Nylon, elastane

Quince Ponte Straight Leg Pant

  • Durability 4.5 /5

Naturally heat-regulating

Durable and well-made

Ethically sourced and produced

Unstructured fit loosens throughout the day

These beautiful linen pants from Quince are ethically woven from 100 percent European flax, making them hypoallergenic and breathable. We found them so light and comfortable, it was easy to forget we were wearing pants at all. After trying them on, we would describe them as “just easy,” from putting them on to accessorizing them for different occasions. The linen is also very high quality, with no changes to its look or feel after several washes and enough thickness not to have to worry about visible underwear.

The fit is true to size, with a streamlined, straight-leg aesthetic that we feel is very versatile. The cropped legs hit just above the ankle, making them practical for navigating less-than-pristine airport bathrooms and cute when paired with sneakers, sandals, and flip-flops. If we could make one change? We’d add a drawstring to the elasticated waist to counteract the fact that it does stretch a little with extended wear. Finally, the pants have three functioning pockets and come in nine attractive colors.

Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL | Materials: European flax linen

TripSavvy / Jackie Napalan

Our overall favorite travel pants were the Stretch High-Rise Joggers from Lululemon, which we loved for their buttery-soft comfort, stretch, and stylish appearance. For something a little more formal, choose Quince’s elegant yet eminently practical Ultra-Stretch Ponte Straight Leg Pants .

Each pair of pants considered for this article went through the same real-life testing process. First, we unboxed and visually inspected the pants to gain an overall impression of material and construction quality. We tested the design and function of features, including pockets, zippers, buttons, and drawstrings; then put the pants on to perform a series of squats. This gave us an idea of their fit, breathability, and stretch.

Then, we wore each pair for at least four six-hour periods over two weeks. We wore them for traveling and everyday activities, including going to work, attending social events, and running errands. Finally, we washed the pants at least once according to the manufacturer’s care guidelines to see how well they held up. Each pair was scored from one to five for fit, comfort, quality, durability, design, and value, with overall scores informing our category winners.

Everlane The Easy Pant : These majority cotton pants look great and are easy to style with multiple outfits (ideal for saving on packing space). They ended up feeling stiffer than we expected but remained light in a way that conveyed quality. We wish the waistband were adjustable but appreciate the clean look.

Lululemon Wunder Train High-Rise Tight with Pockets : Soft, comfortable, and a secure fit that moves with you, our tester wore the Wunder Train Tight while flying and to a yoga class and was impressed by their versatility. The only downside is that they won't keep you warm on a chilly flight, but we're OK with that.

Frank and Eileen Murphy Billion Dollar Pant : The thick and stretchy fabric of the Billion Dollar Pant is what our tester liked most. After a full travel day (domestic flight followed by a long shuttle), they still looked presentable and even allowed our tester to unwind with a few yoga poses. Another pricey option that not everyone will be willing to splash out for, but the performance and fit were top-notch.

What to Look For in Women's Travel Pants

Comfort and flexibility are key when it comes to travel pants, which is why many of our favorites are made from technical blends featuring materials like nylon, elastane, spandex, polyester, and Lycra. These blends are typically breathable and moisture-wicking, too, making them easily able to handle temperature changes and great for active vacation pursuits such as hiking or sightseeing tours. Natural materials like cotton and linen are also comfy and breathable, although you’ll have to pack carefully to avoid too many wrinkles.

The travel pants that we tested for this article ranged in price from $22 to $228, but the most affordable pair that scored highly enough to be featured cost $70. This is a good illustration of the old adage “you get what you pay for,” and if you want a pair of pants that tick all the boxes for comfort, versatility, and durability, then you should expect to pay somewhere around the $100 mark. Although this may seem expensive, consider that you’ll be able to wear the right pair of travel pants over and over again on your trip and hopefully for many years to come.

Above all, travel pants should be comfortable. You want full freedom of movement so you can run for that bus, take on that hiking trail, or dance the night away at that sidewalk taverna. You also want to be able to sit comfortably for several hours while traveling without experiencing any uncomfortable pinching or compression. This either means choosing pants with a relaxed fit, or, if you prefer form-fitting leggings, opting for ones with super soft material, plenty of stretch, and a waistband that stays firmly in place without being too tight.

Style is very personal and there’s no right or wrong when it comes to travel pants (or any other clothing). Whatever style you go for, though, we recommend choosing one with plenty of versatility. That means pants that you can dress up with heels and a blazer for a night out or formal business meeting, for example, or pair with sneakers and a T-shirt for more casual adventures during the day. This way, you’ll cut down on the number of different pants you need to take and save extra space in your suitcase for other items.

Although pockets aren’t necessarily essential if you’re the kind of person who always travels with a purse or small backpack , they can be a very handy addition to your travel pants. After all, how much easier is it to whip your passport out of your pocket at security than rummage through your purse for the 99th time? Look for pockets that are deep enough to hold your valuables securely, even when you’re sitting down. The smartest travel pants may even have a zippered pocket or a hidden pocket in the waistband to dissuade pickpockets (almost like a built-in money belt ).

Frequently Asked Questions

Whether for women or for men , the best pair of travel pants is the one you feel most comfortable in. Generally speaking, opt for soft, stretchy fabrics or pants with a relaxed fit that won’t feel too restrictive after hours in one position on the airplane. Pockets are ideal for keeping essentials like your wallet, phone, or passport handy, while breathable, sweat-wicking materials are great if you’re headed somewhere warm. Finally, choosing pants that you can wear for different scenarios (from daytime sightseeing or hiking to dining out in the evening) will help you pack smarter and lighter.

When it comes to the kind of casual pants listed in this article (leggings, joggers, lightweight travel pants), the best way to pack for wrinkle-free results is to fold the pants in half vertically, then roll them up tightly starting from the waistband. Bonus: This is also a great space saver, giving you more room in your suitcase for other clothes or souvenirs you pick up along the way.

The Best Travel Clothes For Women: 19 Shortcuts To Choosing The Perfect Travel Wardrobe

Investing in the best travel clothes for women is well worth it.

If you buy excellent quality women’s travel clothing upfront, you’ll be able to use it time and time again for your trips, rather than thinking of the short term and purchasing various items cheap women’s outdoor clothing every time you travel.

Plus, the best women’s travel clothes are so comfortable and will fit so well you may want to incorporate them into your everyday wardrobe!

Gorgeous peacocks

But how do you find the best travel outfits for women? There are many excellent brands, so how do you distinguish a good brand from a bad one? And then, which travel clothing items are essential and which aren’t?

In this guide, which unveils the best and most comfortable travel clothes for women, I’ll take you through why you should consider investing in high-quality ladies travel clothes, what to consider to make sure you purchase both practical and stylish travel clothes and finally, a few recommendations for the best travel clothing brands.

WHY YOU SHOULD INVEST IN THE BEST TRAVEL CLOTHES FOR WOMEN?

Why purchase clothing which is specially designed for travel, anyway? No doubt you have a perfectly good set of clothes that you wear every day at home. Well, for several reasons:

  • When you travel, its best to travel light, which means traveling with less clothing. This often means wearing the same piece of clothing multiple times before having it washed. Good travel clothes are made from top quality fabrics designed to not trap odors, so even if you have to wear the same item several times, it won’t smell.
  • Also, quality clothes to travel in are made from fabrics that pack well and are wrinkle resistant, and so won’t look dreadful when they are pulled out of the corner of your luggage. Plus, they are usually lightweight and not overly bulky.
  • Good travel wear for ladies wash and wear well and also dry quickly – in some cases you could even use a hotel hair dryer to dry your clothes.
  • Womens travel gear often has some handy pockets which everyday clothing may not have. You can even get travel attire for women with hidden pockets for valuables, or even just to be able to carry a little bit extra on the plane and not have it accounted for in your carry on baggage.

Above all, a good travel wardrobe for women can really take a beating. Quality clothes can be washed in older washing machines, worn days on end, squeezed into small spaces in your bag, be resistant to tears and much more.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST WOMENS TRAVEL CLOTHING?

So now that I’ve convinced you that you need at least a few good quality pieces of travel clothing, you’re probably wondering how to get the best value for money. To find the answer, ask yourself these 19 questions before investing in your women’s travel apparel.

The more boxes the item of clothing can tick, the greater the chance it’s worth the investment.

1. How comfortable is it?

In some cases, you might be in the same clothes for a day or more, particularly if you have a long haul flight, so you really do want comfortable travel clothes for women.

You don’t want your skin chafing from tight waistbands in the heat or trousers so tight you can’t breathe when you walk. Comfortable and fashionable travel clothes will keep you out and about longer than those that constrict you.

But that doesn’t mean you have to forgo style for comfort. These days, the best travel wear for women looks fantastic, and as I said earlier, these items might even make their way into everyday wardrobe.

2. How much does it weigh?

These days, baggage allowances are shrinking, and we need to pack as light as possible if we want to avoid excess charges (and lugging around more weight than makes sense). This is why the investment in women’s clothing for travel is well worth it. The best lightweight travel clothes allow you to pack more variety!

3. How quickly does it dry?

Traveling light means having enough clothes for every occasion without packing your entire closet. Especially important in the quick dry clothing for travel clothing category are your  travel underwear  and  travel bras .

4. How easily does it wrinkle?

Natural linen is beautiful, but it isn’t convenient for easy travel (unless you’re staying in a luxury hotel with pressing services). The best travel gear for women is usually made of mixed fibers that are part natural, part synthetic. Not only will these wrinkle less but they’ll often dry faster. (This is particularly important if you’re on a  long-haul flight .) Wrinkle resistant travel clothes are definitely worth the investment.

5. How sturdy is it?

If you plan to wash something by hand often, it had better be sturdy and well made. Otherwise it might fall apart at the first rinse. This is where paying a bit more for good quality wash and wear travel clothes is worthwhile.

Also, some materials are more resistant than others to stains and dirt. Wear a natural fiber in black or white and you’ll see what I mean. Will this item ‘hide’ a full day’s wear easily? Buying the best women’s travel outfits will end up saving you money by lasting longer.

6. How versatile and flexible is it?

To travel light, you’ll want to choose clothes that can do double duty. Travel clothing and accessories such as a cheerful  infinity scarf with hidden pockets  can be both decorative and practical. A sarong can be used as a beach spread, a sheet over your hammock, or as a scarf.

You could also choose some great reversible clothing for travel, such as dresses or skirts you can wear on both sides, or dresses that can be worn multiple ways – this gives you several different outfits with limited clothing pieces.

7. Will the color hold?

Women’s clothes that travel well shouldn’t fade at first wash or look dull almost immediately. You want travel wear women’s clothing that will look as new at the end of your trip as it does at the beginning.

8. Is it sprayable?

This is only something to worry about if you’re heading where there are mosquitoes or other stinging beasts. If you are, make sure you have packable travel clothes which can be sprayed with repellent and don’t disintegrate in your hands at the harsh chemical treatment. You even buy  mosquito repellent clothing .

9. How secure is it?

You shouldn’t neglect safety – the best travel wear women can buy often involves hidden and secure pockets. Do your  travel pants  have a secure pocket? Does your  travel skirt  have a secret compartment? Think women’s travel clothes and accessories with either zippers, because they’re hard to get into, or velcro, because the noise will alert you if someone tries to sneak a hand in.

Girl in comfortable clothes jumping off a log

10. How appropriate is this item of clothing?

As well as the best women’s clothing – travel means you’ll be on your feet a lot, so leave those slim heels at home and consider a good pair of  women’s walking shoes ,  hiking sandals  or  hiking boots .

11. How culturally suitable is it?

If you plan on visiting mostly churches or mosques, you won’t need shorts or deep necklines. Make sure all the women’s travel separates you bring along ‘fit in’ with local mores. This doesn’t mean you should always  dress like a local  – there’s a time and a place for that.

12. Is it temperature-appropriate?

Of course the best clothes for travel for women must also be temperature appropriate.  Off to Finland in February? You’ll want  cold weather clothes . Greece in July? A  travel hat  is a must. November in Seattle?  Waterproof clothing !

13. Is it resistant to UV rays?

If you’re planning a long stay in the sun and if you’re sensitive, consider a women’s clothing travel collection which is UV-resistant.  (And a good pair of sunglasses and a hat, of course).

14. Is it water-repellent?

If you’re traveling during the rainy season, then water repellent travel separates for women are worth a thought. You’re not going to wear raingear everywhere but if your jacket repels water as well as keeps out the wind, it’ll do double duty and be more practical.

15. How much does it cost?

Good women’s travel friendly clothes don’t usually come cheap. Often, the cheaper item simply doesn’t compare in terms of performance, comfort and longevity. In the end, good quality and stylish travel clothes for women are well worth it. You want value above all, something that answers these questions at a  reasonable  price.

Black crowned crane

16. How compatible is it with the rest of your travel wardrobe?

Easy travel clothes for women are those that mix and match, to help you travel light with what will seem like an endless wardrobe. Try to stick to a specific palette of colors and use prints and unusual hues as accents or accessories.

17. Does it look good?

No matter how resistant, practical, comfortable and cheap – if it looks like you’re wearing a sack, you won’t wear it at all, so this may be one of the last things on the list – but it’s a question that should be answered with a resounding YES!

Ladies lightweight travel clothes which are stylish as well as practical will enhance your confidence by making you look good… And you don’t need to sacrifice a stylish travel wardrobe for comfort.

18. Will it always fit?

Are you a woman whose weight fluctuates? If you are, make sure you don’t get women’s travel outerwear that is too tailored. Otherwise, a little weight gain or loss and your clothes will no longer fit. Look for good casual travel clothes for women with a bit of give and stretch.

19. How practical is it?

Say you buy a few too many souvenirs and you can’t fit another feather into your already heavy luggage: do you have a travel vest or jacket whose pockets you can stuff?

WHAT WOMENS TRAVEL CLOTHING SHOULD YOU INVEST IN?

One Golden Thread : Best Travel Clothes Overall

One Golden Thread

One Golden Thread makes functional, fashionable clothing with feeling. Made from a blend of regenerative Beech Tree fiber and combed ring-spun Cotton, the OGT lineup has perhaps the most comfortable threads I’ve ever worn. Seriously. After I got my Crew Neck Tree Shirt and the Tree Pant , I wore the set for three days straight.

Equally functional and stylish, these clothes will work just as well on a long-haul flight, a light hike, a day at the beach or a night out in a new city. They’re highly versatile and seriously soft. I’ll never wear another set of clothes on a flight ever again.

Alongside the cut, it’s the Beech Tree fiber that really makes the OGT lineup stand out. As far as I know, no other company is producing clothing from this material. That means there’s a good chance you haven’t felt the level of comfort these threads provide. With a 30-day return policy, you might as well try—you’ve got nothing to lose.

Their versatility allows for more minimalist travel. You can bring fewer things for more possibility.

From their 5-pocket Tree Pant , to the 98% five-star review Tree Shirt , wear the feeling of home wherever you roam. And for every item you purchase, One Golden Thread plants a tree. So, as you travel, you are a part of, as they say, re-generosity. It’s so golden.

Columbia : Best Budget Travel Clothes

Columbia fleece clothing

Columbia has been a household name for travel clothes in North America for a long time and continues to earn that distinction. Most of you have probably owned Columbia gear at one time or another. If not, you absolutely should. Everything is reasonably priced, and you can wear it for every stage of your trip, even to chillier destinations.

Columbia’s Omni-Heat fabric is perfect for colder climates, and I’ve found this technology to be especially useful when applied to their pants. I personally own a pair of Omni-Heat pants, and I wear them all the time for winter and snow-related activities.

Columbia also produces a large selection of standard cotton shirts that you can wear for just about any occasion. They’re very budget-friendly and the cotton is lightweight, breathable, and cozy for long days on the road. They also make one of the best rain jackets out there, and it doesn’t break the bank.

On a broader scale, all of Columbia’s fabrics are comfortable and adequately durable. Take note, however, that I’ve found the lower price equals slightly less durability for some of their products. While I love how Columbia clothes fit and function, I’ve also found them to wear out earlier than other brands.

Arc'teryx : Best Adventure Travel Clothes

Arc'teryx gear

If you’re interested in the most up-to-date technological innovations in outdoor gear and travel clothing, consider Arc’teryx . More than other travel clothing brands, they focus on the performance of their clothes, along with a ruggedly practical design.

Their bread and butter is technical adventure gear for sports, like climbing and mountaineering. Therefore, you’re guaranteed durable and performance-driven garb designed to be put through the wringer.

While all their technical information can be daunting, Arc’teryx does its best to deliver easy-to-understand details about its features. You should be able to make the most informed decision about the best travel clothes to buy.

Plus, their selection is hardly limited to extreme sports. They also have a large variety of general outdoor clothing—everything from trail running pants to innovative hiking boots—making Arc’teryx one of the best outdoor clothing brands on the market. I love this company for this reason, along with the fact that they tend to inject very snappy colors into their clothing designs.

Arc’teryx is also a fantastic resource for cold-weather gear, and their incredibly warm snow pants and jackets are phenomenal. They also offer an array of bags for city and backcountry adventures.

Patagonia : Best Ethically Sourced Travel Clothes

Patagonia Men and Women

My packing list for  anywhere  will forever and always include Patagonia , and so should yours. In terms of travel clothing, Patagonia has just about every essential item you could need. Their clothes are an integral part of my travel wardrobe, whether I’m transiting an airport or hiking up a mountain on a chilly morning to catch a sunrise.

Patagonia uses a variety of high-quality fabrics while staying committed to fair business practices. What’s more, they are incredibly active in nature and wildlife conservation efforts around the world.

Patagonia’s quality is unparalleled. They use the highest quality fabric and manufacturing processes available for their gear (which is why they make some of the best midlayers out there). Furthermore, they’re very transparent about where they source those materials, and it’s all ethical.

In terms of style, Patagonia likes to use bright patterns and colors in their designs, making each item very distinguishable and snazzy. Both men and women will also have plenty of choices in Patagonia’s massive catalog. I’ve found the colors and wide range of options fit my style perfectly, and many of my favorite clothes come from here.

One of those favorites includes a pair of durable pants that I’ve used for both sleeper trains and long days on the trail. I wear these travel pants (along with my other favorite Patagonia clothing items) all the time. They’re durable, they look great, and they carry well.

Amongst all the labels listed here, I have to say that Patagonia is definitely one of the best for stylish travel clothing combined with high durability and a great warranty. Plus their charitable program, Patagonia Action Works, has been supporting conservation efforts for over 40 years. Their brand ethically sources all its materials and labor, so you can feel good about where your money is going.

Bluffworks : Best Business Travel Clothes

A couple wearing business Bluffworks clothes

Bluffworks combines high fashion with durable travel clothing that can be worn anywhere, especially at the office. They aim to unite your travel wardrobe with your everyday wardrobe to make lasting yet fashionable clothing.

They successfully combine performance, style and fabric quality. I’d wear their clothes just about anywhere in the world. If you need stylish clothing for travel and everyday wear, Bluffworks’ travel clothing line is a great option.

You should note that they have a small catalog, but the quality more than makes up for the lack of choices.

Bluffworks is perfect for traveling in cities because they use moisture-wicking and wrinkle-resistant fabrics, so you can explore for hours while still looking presentable. Their aesthetic isn’t flashy by any means, but their clothes are well-made and high-class.

Bluffworks certainly takes no shortcuts when it comes to their materials. In my opinion, it’s the style and quality inherent in every one of their products that distinguishes Bluffworks and earns them a slot on this list as being one of the best travel clothing brands .

prAna : Best Athletic Travel Clothes

PrAna Clothes

If you’re packing lightweight and looking for stylish but athletic travel clothing, look to prAna ! They specialize in sustainable yoga clothing that’s also fantastic for travel and outdoor use. They’ve been doing so for years. They also place a premium on durability and quality, both of which are essential attributes for travel-friendly clothing.

You might have heard the buzz about their leggings and pants—they’re comfy, moisture-wicking, they have an athletic fit, and they last forever. Although prAna clothing has plenty of styles (they have an incredible selection of patterns and colors), their most significant focus is on performance.

First of all, prAna’s clothing has tons of comfort. prAna uses super-soft fabrics and smart designs to keep you comfortable during almost any activity by wicking away excess perspiration and providing ample breathability in warm climates. For example, they make excellent travel dresses for women featuring very lightweight cotton fabric that’s perfect for a night out or a day exploring nature.

Like many of the top travel clothing brands, prAna places a big emphasis on sustainability. They use recycled and natural fabrics like hemp, organic cotton, and recycled polyester, and they make timeless pieces that are designed to last.

They also have a performance-oriented cut that promotes a full range of motion and an athletic fit. If you’re looking for comfortable yet durable travel clothes that can keep up with you wherever you go, whether it’s a hiking trail or a new city, Prana is an excellent choice.

ExOfficio : Best Travel Underwear

ExOfficio bug repellant clothing

I would wear almost anything from the ExOfficio lineup. They have been part of the outdoor community since 1987, and their primary market is insect and sun-repellent clothing. For that reason, hiking and backpacking travelers should check out ExOfficio for all their active gear.

ExOfficio also offers an excellent array of travel clothing accessories like bug-repellent hats and bandanas and underwear utilizing comfortable fabrics built specifically for travel. It’s all in the details, and I think that’s where ExOfficio shines.

They also use a range of eco-friendly materials in their underwear and base layers.

ExOfficio is very passionate about the science behind their products. They used advanced fabrics like merino wool clothing and high-tech anti-microbial treatments. I highly encourage you to look at ExOfficio for practical outdoor travel clothing—especially their underwear!

Unbound Merino : Best Merino Wool Selection

Unbound Merino Side

Unbound Merino is a brand that takes advantage of one of the best clothing materials available out there—merino wool. They’re one of the best merino wool brands on the market, using very high-quality merino wool, which further boosts the quality of their final products—spectacular travel clothes, especially when it comes to shirts and tops.

But let’s talk fabric for a moment. Merino wool is a particular type of wool with spectacular temperature regulation and anti-bacterial properties. It is a wrinkle-resistant fabric that keeps you comfortable in warm or cold weather. It’s also a natural material and is one of the most sustainable fabrics out there!

Unbound Merino has harnessed this merino wool perfectly. They keep fashion in mind when designing simple garments with all the power of this glorious fabric. One shirt can take you from the airport to a city tour to a nice dinner on the town, and still look and smell great at every stage of the day thanks to the anti-bacterial properties.

Unbound Merino has become my go-to for merino wool clothing, largely because of their versatility. They pack in a great travel style that’s ready for everything from urban travel to lounging in the hotel room.

Unbound Merino also pledges to use high-quality fabrics and to avoid fast fashion tactics. In terms of spectacular textile and lightweight clothing, Unbound Merino is undoubtedly one of my favorites for comfortable travel.

Ably : Best Stain-Resistant Clothes

Ably stain-proof shirt

Ably is another one of those brands that value smart and practical clothing for people who are often on the road. They are a Seattle-based brand whose mission is to design odor-, sweat-, water-, and wrinkle-resistant clothing that will be your go-to for any situation.

That’s a tall order, so how do they do it? Ably uses a unique lightweight fabric called Filium. It’s moisture-resistant, odor-blocking, and fast-drying. Together, these attributes work together to form stunning travel clothing, especially for those of you prone to spilling drinks on your clothing (guilty as charged).

I’m particularly fond of the neutral style of Ably clothing—you can mix and match most items. This easy pairing allows you to pack fewer pieces of clothing so you can fill up your suitcase with souvenirs instead!

Furthermore, unlike many mainstream clothing companies, Ably truly cares about quality, and their clothing shows it. Ably has high-quality items that resist spills, sweat, stains, and nearly all other travel-related unpleasantness.

Athleta : Best Women's Travel Clothes

Athleta Clothes

Athleta is one of the more mainstream websites on this list and boasts an extensive catalog to match. This brand is consequently one of my top recommendations for the casual female traveler (and my female team members agree!).

From bottoms to jackets and t-shirts to dresses, Athleta undoubtedly has something for everyone. Athleta also uses durable materials in tandem with quality manufacturing, so you’ll get the same level of comfort in a maxi-dress as you would with a pair of yoga pants.

The aesthetically pleasing yet subtle style is best deployed in cities—taking in the sights, catching a show, having relaxing evenings out, or just chilling in everyday life. However, Athleta’s performance-focused apparel easily earns its place on more adventurous excursions or simple trips to the hotel gym.

Athleta seems to have chiseled out a strong following amongst yoga aficionados thanks to their durable, comfortable, and breathable active leggings and tops. The apparel doesn’t come cheap, but it’s still an excellent travel clothing brand that covers the entire field from casual to activewear.

Vessi Footwear : Best Travel Shoes

Vessi Everyday

Vessi Footwear is an innovative brand that took the typical sneaker model and made it four-season. Their travel shoes are designed for rainy or snowy weather thanks to remarkable waterproofing technology. And yes, I do mean waterproof—I’ve tested Vessi shoes myself, and they’re remarkably watertight.

What’s more, the unique knit material has all the comfort of your favorite pair of slippers for unparalleled foot comfort while traveling. You have three types of sneakers to choose from: the Everyday Sneaker, the Cityscape, and the Everyday Slip-On. All three versions come in both men’s and women’s versions, and each has particular strengths.

Check out my complete review of Vessi footwear if you want to know more.

Vessi literally designed these shoes from scratch as a startup and funded their project through a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign. The science behind the waterproof knit pattern is incredible, and the shoe cushion is anti-bacterial. No stinky feet!

These travel shoes are perfect for just about everyone out there. From snow to rain and casual to classy, these shoes do everything.

Icebreaker : Best For Travel Baselayers

Icebreaker Baselayer Women

Icebreaker is another excellent company that uses merino wool for the vast majority of their products. While they have a broad range of general clothing that’s perfect for travel days, they also produce a very intriguing line of performance clothing aimed at hiking and adventure.

This diversity means that Icebreaker can be your one-stop-shop for all your travel clothing, casual or otherwise. Merino wool is their material of choice because it naturally inhibits bacterial growth and thereby reduces odor while at the same time providing excellent temperature regulation.

The properties of Icebreaker’s high-tech fabrics will keep you warm in colder weather but also help cool you down in the heat by staying breathable and wicking sweat away from your body. This is a huge advantage over cotton t-shirts, which absorb sweat and don’t dry quickly. They also offer great sun protection for long days outside.

Merino is genuinely a fabric unlike any other, and any brand that focuses on wool clothing is a prime target for your wardrobe. I’m particularly fond of Icebreaker’s wool baselayers. They’re great for staying warm on chilly planes or layering up for a colder day exploring a new city or landscape. I include a pair of wool pants for just about every trip I take, and I never regret bringing them.

Overall, Icebreaker makes high-quality travel clothes designed to roll with the punches and stick with you wherever you go. Trust me, merino wool will change your entire outlook on travel clothes. There’s no other material out there that will look so stylish and suitable for any occasion, and yet work so hard to keep you comfortable and smelling great. In fact, they make several of our favorite travel shirts.

Western Rise : Best Men's Travel Clothes

Western Rise clothing for men

Western Rise is a perfect brand for the minimalist male travelers out there. They focus on neutral and durable clothing that will work in many different capacities. While you won’t see many bright colors or patterns, you will get high-quality clothing that will match with anything else in your wardrobe.

Though their clothing may be simple, it has so many different uses and benefits to make so much more than your standard tee. For example, Western Rise cotton shirts include odor and wrinkle-resistant technology, allowing you to dress with confidence for every situation.

The secret behind this odor and wrinkle-free material? Merino wool! Did I mention that I love merino wool? Recall that wool fabric is naturally odor-resistant and less prone to wrinkles than plain cotton. Western Rise, therefore, produces an excellent blend of the two materials that allow you to wear their products just about anywhere.

Their pants are just as impressive, with a nylon-elastane blend for ultimate comfort and durability. Western Rise is a brand that genuinely allows you to go from the city to outdoors in the same outfit.

Their basic design approach also helps with overall travel outfitting, allowing you to easily dress up their clothing without having to include separate fashion outfits while packing.

So remember, Western Rise is absolute wardrobe basics, but the nicest basics you can buy. I’m also a sucker for a company that cares deeply about its material quality, and Western Rise makes a definite point of addressing its design and material selection process on its website.

The company is also very interested in social responsibility and is working to become a net-zero carbon emissions company. Western Rise is perfect for travelers who need minimalist clothing that will work in many different scenarios for many trips to come.

KÜHL : Best Travel Pants

KUHL clothing

KÜHL is one of my favorite travel clothing brands. They produce clothes for men and women that are well-made with a particular focus on hiking. They’re well known for their travel and hiking pants , which feature a trim yet rugged design that’s durable enough for any trail but minimalist enough for a day navigating city streets.

What I mean by “minimalist” is that these travel pants don’t feature any overt logos, bulkiness, or patterns. Just a simple, well-made design that extends to all KÜHL products. That makes them perfect travel pants.

For all you women out there, KÜHL even has an exciting activewear dress collection. The fabric ranges from mighty merino wool to standard cotton, but each one is incredibly cozy and perfect to wear on the road.

I also love that KÜHL has many products that combine all the benefits of technical fabrics with understated designs that can fit your personal style. That’s great for anyone who likes to pack light for one-bag travel and needs travel clothing that can fill multiple purposes, from hiking to dressing up to go out for the night.

All in all, KÜHL is ideal if you need some simple, well-made pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe. Also, because the clothing isn’t bulky, it won’t take up too much room as you’re packing. These travel clothes are ideal for anyone who likes well-made clothing designed by an independent company that will fit perfectly in their suitcase!

Darn Tough Socks : Best Travel Socks

Darn Tough Socks

Socks are essential, and Darn Tough is a well-known sock brand from Vermont, USA. Without a doubt, these are my go-to socks for any occasion, and I love them. I’ve owned at least five pairs, and I never leave home without them.

These merino wool socks genuinely live up to the company name, and they’ll last trip after trip and season after season with hardly any signs of wear and tear. They are durable, warm, and breathable, and they feature merino wool’s natural odor resistance. Merino is the best material for base layers, and that includes your socks!

The natural temperature-regulating properties of wool also makes these socks ideal for both cold and hot weather. Their designed to keep your feet comfortable no matter the temperature. They also sell a wide range of sock thicknesses, from super lightweight running socks to thick, cushy winter ones.

Darn Tough invests a tremendous amount of effort in sourcing high-quality natural fabrics and craftsmanship for these socks. They’re not limited to outdoor adventure either—the comfortable, moisture-wicking, and durable design is just as useful for airports, cities, and museums.

Simply search on their website, and I’m sure you’ll find a pair you love. Darn Toughs has a considerable array of sock styles and designs, but they all feature merino wool’s signalture soft feel and comfort.

The best part of Darn Tough is their warranty. Unlike many brands, they really stand behind their products. If you ever wear out your socks, send them back and they’ll ship you a new pair. No questions asked, no receipt needed. While these socks seem expensive, that extra cost is actually quite affordable pricing considering you are buying a pair of socks that will last the rest of your life!

If you haven’t picked up on it yet, I am a huge fan of Darn Tough socks. Get some! You might even be able to pass them down to your grandkids.

Eddie Bauer : Best Travel Jackets

Eddie Bauer pants

Eddie Bauer is an extremely well-known travel clothing brand with plenty of options for both men and women. For my part, I love their travel pants think they’re one of the best jacket brands out there. Their Guide Pro pants are water-resistant, stretchy, and very swish. Meanwhile, the jackets are lightweight, breathable, stylish, and perfect for men or women.

I also have an Eddie Bauer down parka that I love. I can wear it during the day and stay comfortable without overheating. Meanwhile, my favorite pair of Guide Pro pants look at home on the trail, in a restaurant, or just lounging around.

My emphasis on their pants and jackets is not to imply that I’m not a fan of Eddie Bauer shirts, however. They offer a wide variety in both technical and cotton that are appropriate for casual or activewear. Take note that I feel that their shirts are a little on the boxy side, and they wouldn’t be my first choice to dress to impress, but they’re functional nevertheless. In particular, I think Eddie Bauer makes great shirts for sun protection while hiking in warmer weather.

Eddie Bauer designs all their clothing with versatility in mind. Their clothing is ideal for camping, fishing, hiking, and general travel. You can wear their clothes anywhere, anytime.

Eddie Bauer also believes in sourcing the raw materials for their clothing responsibly, and so they partner with other associations to make sure they’re doing their part for conservation efforts. By and large they use eco-friendly fabrics and ethical manufacturing.

Let’s review the basics: Eddie Bauer is an outdoor and travel clothing brand has comfortable, stylish clothing that’s perfect for men and women travelers for a vast range of activities, and they also focus on conservation efforts! Who doesn’t want to shop there?

Mountain Hardwear : Most Durable Travel Clothes

Two people hiking in the mountains wearing Mountain Hardwear Clothing

Mountain Hardwear is one of those cool brands that craft tough gear that you’ll want to wear forever, and it will last just as long. Seriously, I have a fleece from Mountain Hardwear that I’ve worn up mountains on four continents over five years, and it’s still on the top of my packing list for every trip.

Generally speaking, Mountain Hardwear has a wide range of impressive clothing that will fit just about any traveling dress code. Their travel clothing line includes casual shirts for run-of-the-mill use, heavy-duty adventure gear crafted from exceptionally durable fabrics, travel pants suitable for mountains or museums, and more stylish tops and button-up shirts to dress up for a night out.

Mountain Hardwear’s usefulness for travelers extends beyond clothes. They make an impressive line of backpacks, tents, and sleeping bags to fully equip the adventurous folks out there.

Finally, their fabrics are designed to last in the long run (just like my traveling fleece). Every piece of clothing exhibits excellent construction and quality, making Mountain Hardwear a trustworthy purveyor of all things travel clothing related.

HOKA vs. Brooks: Which Running Shoes Are Better?

The two most popular running shoe brands are about to race for best overall.

hoka vs brooks

We've been independently researching and testing products for over 120 years. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Learn more about our review process.

I will be honest: I never imagined myself to be a runner. But somewhere between one-mile jogs around the neighborhood and my first 5K, I began to enjoy running. My first ever running shoe was from ASICS but after that, I quickly became a HOKA girlie and have since owned three different styles. However, I often see runners and commuters wearing Brooks sneakers and was tempted enough to road test two styles.

To compare HOKA vs. Brooks once and for all, I teamed up with our experts in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles, Paper & Apparel Lab to summarize the pros and cons of each brand so you can find the best shoe for your needs. We reached out to each brand to ask for their most popular shoes and decided on three HOKA shoes and three Brooks shoes that also performed well in consumer tests.

In the GH Institute, we evaluate women's sneakers of all categories including the best running shoes and walking shoes for women as well as the best shoes for plantar fasciitis and the most comfortable shoes . For this particular story, we evaluated six running shoes (four of which I have personally run in) and paid close attention to differences in cushioning and stability, which is where the two brands differ most.

We outline more differences between the six shoes below, as well as provide testing results on each included style.

HOKA vs. Brooks: Key Differences

Before you click "add to cart" on any pair of running shoes, it's key to do your research. Luckily, we already did that hard work for you so you can compare and contrast with ease. Here's how HOKA and Brooks differentiate among the most important features.

When it comes to fit, each specific sneaker is a little different but the main difference is that HOKA offers thick cushioning while Brooks provides stability (more on that below). HOKA also offers rocker styles to propel you forward. Textiles, Paper & Apparel Lab Senior Analyst Emma Seymour and I both find Brooks shoes to run true to size.

Meanwhile, with HOKA running shoes, it can fluctuate. For example, for my first pair of Cliftons, I went for an 8.5 and they fit well (my shoe size runs between an 8 and and 8.5, but a half size up is comfortable in a pair of running shoes so your toes don't squish against the front). When I sized down to an 8 in my Bondi 8s, they fit but were a little tight, so as expected, an 8.5 would have been a better choice. The exception is that I tried the Arahi 7 in an 8.5 and I found it to run big — I had to wear them with insoles and thicker socks.

As previously mentioned, HOKA is known for its ample cushioning. "This can be helpful if you have joint pain for added relief, but the bulky cushioning can be unstable for older individuals," explains Seymour. On the other hand, Brooks typically have minimal cushioning on most styles and are firmer. I appreciate the cushioning of HOKA shoes when walking long distances and would have lived in the shoes after ballet class if I had owned them years ago. However, they can feel a bit chunky , and while I found my Ghost sneakers to feel hard, they were slimmer.

a person's feet in white sneakers from hoka on grass

You know the drill here. "Brooks shoes offer more stability hands-down," says Seymour who explains this is ideal for a runner with foot pain because the shoe is stiffer and more structured. However, that isn't to say HOKA offers no control at all. Their shoes do offer some stability but it isn't to the same degree as Brooks.

Overall, HOKA tends to be more expensive but both brands are relatively pricey. I find the investment to be worth it as someone who goes on runs two to three times a week and often walks over 10,000 steps a day (#citylife). But if even if I wasn't a runner or enjoyed walking to the grocery store, a cushioned and/or stable shoe can be worth it if your job requires you to be on your feet all day.

Best HOKA and Brooks Running Shoes

Hoka women's clifton 9.

Women's Clifton 9

My first HOKA running shoe was an older version of the Clifton and it did me well. I had previously only run in ASICS or Nike running shoes and was surprised by the extra cushion a HOKA shoe offered. It has been written many times before, but I can confirm I felt like I was running on a cloud. "They are very comfortable and have excellent cushioning all around, unlike most sneakers that feel like cushioning is just on the bottom," said one tester.

Since running and walking in the HOKA Bondi 8 and Arahi 7, I tend to prefer the latter two for extra cushioning. But if I were to recommend a HOKA shoe to someone who hasn't tried the brand before, I think the Clifton is a stellar start. GH Assistant Commerce Editor Isabella Cavallo would have to agree. "I used to have the Clifton 8s and I ran over 400 miles in them in total. Hoka's Clifton sneakers will always have my heart," she says.

Testers found the Clifton 9 to be comfortable, supportive and provide good traction. One tester noted the shoe didn't flare up their plantar fasciitis and reported the shoe was supportive even during long periods of exercise. If you plan to do a lot of speedrunning, Cavallo prefers the HOKA Mach X because it's a lighter shoe that will help propel you forward. Other testers found the Clifton to be kind of bulky, which is a typical complaint with HOKA shoes. I find the Clifton to be less bulky than the Bondi 8, though.

Brooks Women's Ghost 16

I have multiple strong runners in my family and when we talk running shoes, Brooks consistently comes out on top as an all-time favorite brand. Our testers took the Ghost 15 (a similar, less updated model) out for a whirl at a moderate speed. All three testers gave perfect scores for comfort and cushioning, as well as top scores for support and traction — great if you aren't afraid of running in the rain. Testers also raved about the breathable lightweight fabric.

"My feet were never sore and I walked A LOT with these," reported one tester, while another added, "I have an issue with a heel spur in my right foot so the cushioning in the shoes helps with the pain as it absorbs to your entire foot." Overall, the Ghost is a versatile everyday shoe you can take on a run or slip on for your commute. One drawback? Testers didn't love the design of this shoe, which is a complaint you will see with Brooks. They may not be the most stylish, but they will keep your feet supported.

If you want even more cushioning, I recommend the Glycerin series. I wore my Ghost shoes for walking over 3 miles around the city but preferred the Glycerin for running weekly jogs in the park. The Ghost is also a solid gym shoe if you primarily work out using weights or incorporate a 1-mile run into your routine. Note that one tester with wider feet found the shoe took a while to break in.

Best HOKA and Brooks Walking Shoes

Hoka women's bondi 8.

After wearing my Bondi 8s for two 5ks and well over 200 miles, they are definitely ready to retire, but I will miss the shoe's stellar cushioning and may or may not snag another pair. Compared to the Cliftons, these offer even more plush cushioning and are for that very reason a go-to shoe for nurses or any job that requires you to be on your feet for long hours. I find the Bondis to be more stylish too although I wish I got an 8.5 rather than an 8 (they fit, but are a bit snug and needed a little time to break in). However, the chunkier style may not be everyone's taste.

Despite the somewhat controversial chunky design, these are probably one of the most popular shoes I often see on my commute or walk. They are a breathable and lightweight shoe that still provides good support and stability. Another tester with plantar fasciitis described this shoe as a game-changer. Runners who also go on long walks or who are recovering from an injury will appreciate the unparalleled cushioning. I often have shin splints and putting on my Bondis after a day of wearing a poorly supported shoe feels like a breath of fresh air.

Weight: 9 oz | Drop: 4 mm

Brooks Women’s Glycerin 21

Women’s Glycerin 21

HOKA is typically my go-to running shoe brand, but after trying Brooks shoes for this article, I was impressed with how much cushioning the Glycerin 21 offered in comparison to the Ghost. I view this shoe as best of both worlds because it offers enough cushioning to rival HOKA and is still a stable running shoe. I wore it on a 20-minute jog as well as two hikes that were 6 and 9.5 miles — on top of regular wear walking around the city or traveling. Our textile pros included the Glycerin in our guide to the best walking shoes , finding it to be a top shoe for plantar fasciitis thanks to its great arch support and cloud-like cushioning.

"On the days I wear this pair, my feet feel so much more comfortable by the end of the day," wrote one tester. I concur and can report my feet felt more comfortable after wearing these shoes on a 9+ hike than some of my hiking shoes — although note these shoes aren't designed for that type of activity. While I wish I ordered a different color than white (they got dirty quickly), the shoes held up well on rougher terrain and offered good traction during a downpour. However, it did take them three days to dry. One tester also found the shoe to be too bulky.

Weight: 8.8 oz | Drop: 10 mm

Editor Favorite HOKA and Brooks Shoes

Hoka women's mach x.

I have not personally tried the HOKA Mach X but it's on my wish list for running sneakers. Popular for long distances and speedrunning, our testers tried the Mach X both outdoors and on the treadmill. The shoes received all-around top scores for every category including cushioning, comfort, traction and fit, with only one tester giving a lower score for support. Multiple testers described the shoes as "springy" thanks to the dense foam and appreciated the shoe's tongue that lays flat and doesn't get tangled with the laces.

"I wore them on one run and I could tell an immediate improvement compared to my other shoes — this pair actually helped propel me forward, so I felt like I could run even faster," reported Seymour. She does wish the shoe offered better arch support because after a long walk, her arches slightly ached. Other perks include a breathable upper and reflective detailing that is ideal for running in the dark.

Note that these are some of the most expensive HOKA running shoes. However, testers do think the price is worth the investment given the sneaker's versatility for running and walking. I find that splurging on a supportive running shoe that fits well is worth it in the long run, but that doesn't mean the upfront cost is easy to digest.

Brooks Women’s Adrenaline GTS 23

Women’s Adrenaline GTS 23

We named the Adrenaline GTS 23 best overall in our recent guide to the best running shoes for flat feet . A physical therapist and registered nurse tested this Brooks shoe and both gave perfect scores for almost every category, namely taking away points for the sneaker's appearance, which isn't the most aesthetic-looking. Still, the Adrenaline series is top-notch for support.

"They provided great arch support throughout my 9-hour work day," reported the physical therapist. Meanwhile, the RN said, "the cushion in these shoes is amazing." Their feet and knees haven't been hurting after a 12-hour shift thanks to the Adrenaline GTS 23. Similar to other styles included in this roundup, these shoes are breathable for sweaty, long runs during the warmer months. In turn, though, the mesh front may mean your toes get a bit wet in the rain.

Weight: 9.1 oz | Drop: 12 mm

How We Tested HOKA vs. Brooks Running Shoes

We have evaluated over 30 different running shoes in the Lab and among consumer testers, gathering over 1,000 points of data . Testers ran a total of 150 hours to evaluate comfort, support, stability and overall fit. Our experts also try on each shoe in the Lab to note the level of arch support each style offers, measure its weight and evaluate the shoe's construction.

Bottom Line

Ultimately, the choice between HOKA and Brooks comes down to which features will help you have the best run. If you prefer more cushioning or want a stylish aesthetic, then HOKA is the brand for you. But if you have flatter feet or want a more stable shoe, then we recommend Brooks. Of course, there are some exceptions and you may be able to find the best of both worlds in select styles.

If you have foot pain or specific concerns, we recommend speaking with your podiatrist and heading to your local running store so you can try on the shoe in person before ordering. Otherwise, choose styles with a generous return policy to ensure you find them comfortable after trying them on.

Helsinki, Finland

Despite winter being their longest season, Finns embrace nature, instead of bemoaning it. On top of that, the Nordic nation champions gender equality, progressive values, and environmental causes. No wonder Finland has been named the happiest in the country in the world for the seventh year in a row. We recommend starting your adventure in the capital city of Helsinki , an urban hub melding striking architecture, communal sauna culture, and diverse restaurants (dinner at Savoy is a must). In terms of where to stay, it’s tough to top the new Hotel NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa with a plum downtown address that’s walkable to the city’s top attractions, posh accommodations, Usva by Terhen Spa—try the signature two-hour, self-guided ritual—and Kupoli, a chic rooftop bar where mixologist Mika Koivula whips up magic in a glass.

Naples is the solution if you’re craving the Sunshine State’s good weather, but want to steer clear of Orlando and Miami. With nearly nine miles of pristine sugar-white beaches and tropical year-round temps, the coastal city gracing the Gulf of Mexico is well-suited for single women seeking a more relaxed, yet elevated vibe. Speaking of which, you’ll want to reserve a room at the newly renovated Ritz-Carlton, Naples . Though it’s been open for almost four decades, the property feels more alluring than ever. The new Vanderbilt tower boasts Marriott’s biggest club lounge in North America—proper Champagne flows freely at the glitzy U-shaped bar—while the accommodations now feature sleek furnishings and soft tones of sand and gray-blue. Tennis fans will flip for the brand new Mouratoglou Tennis Center at its sister property The Ritz-Carlton Naples, Tiburón .

Bangkok, Thailand

It should come as no surprise that Thailand is ranked one of Asia’s top travel destinations year after year: it’s fun, scenic, inclusive, and affordable. Kick off your trip in the capital of Bangkok, where you have easy access to everything you’d want in a solo adventure, from spirited nightlife to historic group tours to tantalizing street food . It’s also more than easy to meet fellow travelers here via mobile apps, in case you want company for a stretch. Since you’ll probably be saving some of your hard-earned dollars while visiting, why not splurge on a luxurious hotel? With 10 distinct food and beverage outlets including the sky-high rooftop lounge Vertigo, the 61-floor Banyan Tree Bangkok is our pick.

Oahu, Hawaii

Ka Lai Waikiki Beach LXR Hotels Resorts

Of Hawaii’s eight major islands, Oahu stands out as it’s the only one that couples exciting urban energy—which you’ll find in the capital city of Honolulu—with exhilarating natural beauty. In short? It’s the ideal travel destination for the solo female traveler who wants to experience it all. Since Oahu has over 100 beaches, you’ll have no problem pinpointing one to suit your mood. However, we’re partial to Makapu’u Beach, where you can snorkel and bodysurf all day long in relative solitude. Foodwise, you have culture-blending options galore like Koko Head Cafe and MW Restaurant (save room for one of Michelle Karr-Ueoka’s whimsical desserts). When it’s time to chill out, you’ll relish the residential-like and whisper-quiet accommodations at the new Ka La’i Waikiki Beach, LXR Hotels & Resorts .

Montreal, Canada

Where old-world European charm meets cosmopolitan energy, Quebec’s largest city is a sensible choice for vacation. Stunning hotels abound, but we’re especially partial to Vogue Hotel Montreal Downtown, Curio Collection by Hilton with its sophisticated design, convenient address, and Pan-Asian eatery Yama by chef Antonio Park. No visit to Montreal, however, would be complete without digging into iconic bites such as Chez Claudette ’s poutine, St-Viateu r’s chewy-sweet sesame bagels, and Schwartz’s Deli ’s smoked meat sandwiches. Need a culture fix in between all that eating? Check out the exhibits at Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and McCord Stewart Museum . Don’t forget to set aside time to shop the glamorous new megamall at Royalmount , a mixed-used development that’s among North America’s largest and is completely carbon neutral.

Phoenix, Arizona

Cradled by mountains and blessed with sunny days three seasons out of the year, Phoenix is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, especially hikers . Reward yourself after a long day on your feet at the serene Sanctuary Camelback Mountain , where one of the region’s most beloved spas—the CBD Rejuvenating Massage relieves fatigued muscles—and plush, light-filled rooms await. Seeking more urban vibes? The Global Ambassador is a smart choice; plus, famed local restaurateur Sam Fox developed all the dining concepts, including Arizona’s biggest rooftop restaurant. Other dependable dinner options include Uchi , a contemporary Japanese eatery by James Beard Award–winning Chef Tyson Cole and Fat Ox ’s mouthwatering house-made pastas.

It might be tough to push past the public image of France’s capital as a romantic destination for couples, but trust us: it’s an unforgettable place for solo women as well. Public transportation (Métro) is economical and easy to use, and there is seriously something for every interest. Surround yourself with a mind-boggling collection of art at the tiny but mighty (and free) Petit Palais. Scoop up designer duds (hello, tax-free shopping) from Hermès and Dior in the Golden Triangle. Nab a coveted bar seat at the always-busy but well-loved La Coupole for a proper French supper of Champagne and fresh seafood. When it’s time to rest, slip into your awe-inspiring room overlooking the Seine at LVMH’s 72-key Cheval Blanc Paris .

US Virgin Islands

Bolongo Bay Beach Resort

Comprised of the Caribbean islands of St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix, the US Virgin Islands transports you to a tropical paradise of turquoise waters, sugary sands, and warm sunshine without a passport. If you just want to focus on relaxing—and not deal with the hassle of planning meals and excursions—then check into an all-inclusive resort. St. Croix’s Divi Carina Bay Resort & Casino was recently renovated, and is an adults-only affair with unlimited food and beverages in a refreshingly tranquil setting. In St. Thomas, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort specializes in a more intimate, family-run operation specializing in enticing, à la carte menus at every meal with no buffets.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Hotel Execelsior Dubrovnik

One of the most beautiful cities in Croatia, Dubrovnik’s claim to fame is its captivating history and architecture. Walking the thick walls dating back to medieval times that enclose the city is the first thing you’ll want to do after unpacking and settling into Hotel Excelsior , complete with stunning views of the Adriatic sea and a tranquil spa. Other activities you shouldn’t miss include taking the cable car to Mount Srđ for sweeping views, exploring Old Town , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and sea kayaking . When your appetite kicks in, Beach Bar Dodo , D'Vino Wine Bar , and Barba are solid picks.

Travel + Leisure / Alli Waataja

Quick-dry clothing is my most reliable travel companion, keeping me comfortable and dry whether I'm visiting Vietnam in monsoon season or sightseeing during a French heatwave. A long-time activewear staple thanks to its moisture-wicking qualities, it’s become increasingly popular in versatile, travel-friendly clothing, allowing you to effortlessly transition from a morning hike to a poolside lunch without having to deal with damp clothes or stop by the hotel to change.

“Polyester is a hydrophobic fiber which means it does not easily absorb moisture,” says Sean Cormier, a textile expert and Associate Professor and Chair of the Textile Development & Marketing Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He touts polyester and nylon as two of the most reliable quick-dry fabrics, pointing out their potential antimicrobial benefits as a perk for travelers who may need to wear clothes multiple times between washes.

Quick-dry clothing comes in an array of fabrics, from synthetics like polyester and nylon to natural fibers like wool, all of which are designed to wick away moisture and keep you feeling fresh, no matter what the weather brings.

To help you find the most versatile and comfortable quick-dry clothing for your next adventure, we researched dozens of pieces from top brands, including several that have earned permanent real estate in my suitcase as a travel writer. Whether you prefer athletic shorts for keeping cool on the trail or breezy tops for sweat-free strolls around the city, there’s something for everyone on this list.

Vuori Miles Ankle Pants

Stretchy and seamless, these versatile pants are easy to dress up or down for any occasion.

The slash pockets don’t offer a secure closure for your valuables.

Every traveler needs a pair of stretchy yet stylish pants — personally, I’m always on the hunt for a pair with a generous elastic waistband, for those busy travel days when jeans (or anything with a zipper, for that matter) are simply out of the question. Enter: the Vuori Miles Ankle Pant, which I’ve reached for on several recent long-haul flights. They’re stretchy enough to move with me through the airport (and to comfortably sleep in on the plane), and the streamlined silhouette keeps me feeling put-together once I arrive at my destination. It doesn’t hurt that they’re ultra-quick-drying, breathable, and moisture-wicking, too, so I never have to worry about feeling sticky or sweaty — they stayed dry through a sweltering bus ride along Columbia’s northern coast, and again during a stuffy subway commute back home a few days later.

I also love that they’re made from recycled material, but that they feel sleeker than classic performance wear — and they certainly stand up to the other yoga and hiking pants in my closet. While the slash pockets are less secure than a zippered alternative, they’re part of what makes this design versatile enough to wear for both workouts and a day at the museum.

The Details: XS to XL | Recycled nylon, elastane

Daise Paige Midi Dress

This breezy, everyday dress boasts antimicrobial properties and built-in sun protection.

It’s only available in black, and the bamboo fibers are prone to shrinking if you put it in the dryer.

Breathable and ultra-lightweight, this midi-dress is the perfect LBD to take you from the beach to drinks at the hotel bar. It’s made from a super-soft bamboo jersey blend which is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, meaning it’s free of any harmful substances. Bamboo is a naturally breezy, porous fiber that dries relatively quickly on its own; if you do need to toss it in the dryer, be sure to tumble dry low, as heat can lead to shrinkage.

This cozy blend takes bamboo’s natural quick-drying abilities to the next level with moisture-wicking properties, so there’s no need to worry about working up a sweat under the sun. To that end, the fabric really stands out for its built-in UV protection, boasting a UPF 50+ rating that protects your skin from nearly 98 percent of the sun’s damaging rays. We love that the cap sleeves and mock neck offer a little extra coverage, while the side-slits keep it feeling summery and sexy.

The Details: XS to XL | Bamboo, viscose, cotton, spandex

Best Hoodie

Alpine parrot arroyo sun hoodie.

This comfortable hoodie features built-in sun protection and is designed for a wide range of body shapes and sizes.

It’s only available in two colors.

Alpine Parrot specializes in crafting outdoor apparel in inclusive sizes with a focus on ethnic diversity as part of their mission to help everybody enjoy the great outdoors. They make technical clothing for sizes 14 to 30, and the Arroyo Sun Hoodie is one of our favorite pieces. The hoodie is thoughtfully designed in two different styles, meant to accommodate smaller and larger busts (Coastal Fit and Forest Fit, respectively) — both are available in a soft gray or vibrant blue.

The lightweight fabric is naturally cooling and features four-way stretch to easily move with you, making this a perfect piece for everything from camping to gardening. Better yet, the quick-drying polyester material boasts UPF 50+ protection, so you can enjoy your time in the sun more safely. Design details like a spacious kangaroo front pocket, thumbholes to keep out the cold (or the sun), and buttons to customize the amount of chest coverage help to keep you comfortable on any adventure.

The Details: 1X to 5X | Polyester

Best Shorts

Rei co-op trailmade shorts.

These durable, water-repellent shorts boast six pockets to keep everything within easy reach while you’re on the go.

They can ride up at times.

Say hello to your new favorite shorts for just about everything. While they’re definitely sporty in style, these shorts hit at just the right mid-thigh length to feel both flattering and functional for all sorts of active or casual outings. With six pockets, you can ditch the fanny pack and go hands-free while hitting the trails or biking to the beach: two drop-in front pockets are deep enough to store your phone and wallet (or even a small water bottle), while two rear drop pockets can fit snacks or other valuables, and two front envelope pockets offer secure closures for headphones, keys, and more.

The durable, swishy fabric is abrasion-resistant, so it won’t snag on rocks or trees while you’re hiking through national parks. The material itself is incredibly lightweight and stretchy, with UPF 50+ protection and a water-repellent finish — perfect for when you need a cool-down swim after a hot hike.

The Details: XS to 3X | Nylon, spandex, recycled polyester

Best Tank Top

Athleta ultimate muscle tank.

This flowy, breathable top is perfect for keeping cool during high-impact workouts or hot summer days.

The cropped fit and sheer fabric may not offer enough coverage for everyone’s preferences.

Whether you’re giving your all during a HIIT class or taking a tennis lesson on vacation, you can feel confident that this trendy tank will keep you in peak performance mode. It’s made from a blend of breathable nylon and spandex, meaning there’s plenty of stretch and the material is designed to air out and dry in a flash. An eye-catching mesh panel on the back allows for ample air flow and adds an enticing design element, although those who prefer a bit more coverage may not love that aspect. On the flip side, the crew neck provides a fair amount of chest coverage.

The Details: 2XS to 3X | Nylon, spandex

Best Leggings

Lululemon wunder train high rise tight 25".

These flattering leggings are made from a breathable, cooling fabric that stays in place through high-impact workouts, busy travel days, and more.

Given their compressive feel, these may be better suited to working out and running errands than lounging around the house.

Designed to keep you cool as you work up a sweat, these cozy, compressive leggings from Lululemon’s Wunder Train line are a must-have for fitness enthusiasts and frequent fliers alike. The brand’s ultra-quick-drying proprietary Everlux fabric is soft and cooling, with just enough compression to feel like they’re hugging you in all the right places.

They’re made from a stretchy blend of nylon and elastane that stays in place all day long, thanks to an adjustable internal drawcord that keeps the wide, high-rise waistband secure. There’s even a discreet waistband pocket, where you can safely tuck small essentials like credit cards or room keys. While they’re soft and stretchy enough to comfortably move around in, these feel better suited to more active pursuits than low-key lounging.

The Details: 0 to 20 | Nylon, lycra elastane

Best Jacket

Rains jacket.

This sleek, unisex jacket is top-of-the-line windproof, waterproof outerwear.

The length is great for a rain jacket, but can get in the way if you’re wearing it for more high-impact activities.

Perhaps no item of clothing has made me feel as invincible in the face of inclement weather as this Rains Jacket, borrowed from a friend during a hike in Normandy during a summer storm. I felt giddy as I watched the rain pelt and roll off my coat, luxuriating in how toasty and dry it remained on the inside. A short while after the clouds had passed, the water had already beaded off, and it was dry enough to tuck back into my bag.

The jacket, which boasts a water column pressure of 4,000mm, is the perfect lightweight layer — it’s elegant, easily packable, and ready to handle spring showers thanks to its quick-drying PU coating. The length is both a perk and a potential pitfall, as it helps protect you from the elements, but somewhat restricts your freedom of movement when closed.

The Details: XS to 2XL | Polyester

Best Sports Bra

Girlfriend collective tommy cropped bra.

This flattering bra is supportive and stylish enough to wear for a workout or a night on the town.

The straps aren’t adjustable.

Girlfriend Collective has been my go-to athleisure brand for years, and the Tommy Bra is a good example of why: it’s supportive enough to jog, hike, or do yoga in, but the trendy square neckline, scoop back, and flattering compressive fit also feel cool enough to pair with a skirt and tall boots for a night out. I’m always on the hunt for versatile pieces to travel with, so this is a perfect two-in-one; plus, the material wicks away sweat and dries easily, so I can transition comfortably between activities within the same day.

The straps aren’t adjustable, so wriggling into this can be tricky if you’re already sweaty — but once it’s on, it’s comfortable and offers excellent support. The smooth, double-lined fabric is made from recycled plastic bottles, and boasts four-way stretch for easy movement. I’m partial to the neutral tones for maximizing their outfit potential, but I love that it comes in jewel tones and seasonal shades, too, so it’s easy for everyone to find an option that matches their style (and maybe even their matching leggings ).

The Details: 2XS to 6XL | Recycled plastic bottles, spandex

Feetures High Performance Ultra Light Socks

These lightweight socks keep feet cool and dry in warm weather.

These aren’t particularly cushy, but that’s typically in the best interest of those with sweaty feet.

Our team tested 97 pairs of socks to narrow down the best ones for every occasion, and the Feetures High Performance Ultra Light Ankle Sock easily earned our top pick for anyone dealing with sweaty feet. They’re thin and lightweight, taking up next to no room in your suitcase.

While they don’t offer much in the way of cushioning, they’re designed to mold to the natural contour of your feet, providing a comfortable fit that you can walk around in all day long. We found that the breathable merino wool blend kept our feet cool while at the gym and while running, and the socks never bunched or slid down. We also appreciated that they’re available in a wide range of sizes.

The Details: S to XL | Super-fine merino wool, nylon, polyester, lycra

Best T-shirt

Athleta with ease tee.

Drapey and super-soft, this tee is breathable enough for workouts and warm-weather travel.

It’s designed to have a roomy fit — size down if you prefer a more fitted silhouette.

Breezy and breathable, this is one of the best travel tees around. It’s lightweight and packable, and the drapey silhouette is versatile enough to pull double duty: throw it on with jeans and sandals for a day of sightseeing, or wear it to pilates. Either way, you’ll feel as cool as you look thanks to the moisture-wicking, quick-drying Tencel blend. It’s baby soft and made from partly recycled materials, and hits lower in the back for added coverage. We love that it comes in a wide range of sizes, including petite and tall sizing to help you find your perfect fit.

The Details: 2XS to 3X | Recycled polyester, Tencel modal, elastane

Best Long-sleeve Shirt

Lands' end women's crew neck rash guard upf 50.

This waterproof top works as a beach cover-up and a swim tee.

It’s less breathable than an everyday long-sleeve top, but its lightweight construction keeps you from overheating.

While lycra would have once been relegated to workout and swim apparel, this stylish and functional long-sleeve tee now rivals something Skims would market as a going-out top. It’s simple and subtle enough to wear for everyday errands and travel, but it's true draw is as a swim tee and beach cover-up. If you’re heading on a tropical getaway and plan to indulge in some R&R by the pool or beach, this top offers superior protection without sacrificing style.

It’s soft, lightweight, and stretchy for maximum comfort. The moisture-wicking fabric even boasts UPF 50+ sun protection, and dries quickly enough to wear straight from the water to lunch by the pool. Better yet, it comes in a rainbow of vibrant jewel tones and a wide range of inclusive sizes, including petite, long, plus size, and long plus.

The Details: XS to XL | Nylon, lycra spandex

Best Sweater

Quince eco-knit milano stitch mock neck pullover.

Ultra-chic and sophisticated, this sweater will keep you cool even in muggy weather.

The elevated design dries impressively fast, but not at the same speed as performance wear designed for athletic use.

If you’re looking for a chic, timeless layer to elevate your travel wardrobe, look no further than the Quince Eco-Knit Milano Stitch Mock Neck Pullover. The design is simple yet sophisticated — it’s the ideal unfussy and lightweight layer to wear on the plane, or while sipping a coffee at a Parisian cafe.

The soft material is a blend of Lenzing Ecovero, a sustainably-sourced viscose fiber, as well as quick-drying polyester and nylon, which add just the right amount of stretch. While this material won’t dry as quickly as some activewear, it’s naturally designed to wick away moisture and keep you feeling comfortable. We love that it’s machine washable and easy to pair with anything in your closet.

The Details: XS to XL | Lenzing Ecovero, polyester, nylon

Tips for Buying Quick-dry Clothing

Choose the best fabrics for your needs.

Quick-dry clothing comes in an array of fabrics, some of which dry more rapidly than others. If you’re looking for pieces to primarily wear while working out, Cormier suggests synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon, which are often used in activewear because of their antimicrobial properties. Natural fibers like wool also dry quickly, and are ideal for more everyday or elevated pieces for travel.

Prioritize versatility

Versatility is always key while traveling, as being able to mix-and-match or layer your clothing allows you to make the most of the space in your suitcase. Look for pieces in neutral colors and streamlined silhouettes that will be easy to style in different ways — think a breezy tee that can be worn for a workout, or with jeans for a laid-back daytime look. Pieces with antimicrobial properties are particularly helpful here, as they’ll stay fresh longer between washes while you’re on the road.

Quick-dry clothing will come in handy whenever you’ll be at risk of getting damp or sweaty. The moisture-wicking properties that typically go along with it will help keep you feeling cool and dry, whether you’re running to catch a flight or heading to a spin class.

Given that most quick-dry clothing skews more casual, Cormier suggests wearing it for activities where you’re likely to work up a sweat, such as hiking, running, playing tennis, or golfing.

Given that the majority of quick-dry clothing is made from synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon, it’s typically safe to machine wash them with like-colors and, if needed, tumble dry on low. However, certain pieces may require hand washing if they’re more delicate, while others need to be air dried in order to prevent potential heat shrinkage. Be sure to always check the care label on your individual garment to ensure you’re keeping your clothing in optimal condition.

Why Trust Travel + Leisure

For this article, T+L contributor Sophie Dodd extensively researched the best quick-dry clothing for every occasion, from rainy weather to sweaty hikes. She looked to top brands that are T+L editor-approved for travel clothing , and included pieces she and other editors have worn and loved. She prioritized materials that are stylish and travel-friendly, like lightweight fabrics that feature moisture-wicking properties, convenient pockets, and more. She also aimed to highlight pieces made from sustainable or recycled materials, and that come in an inclusive range of sizes.

Additionally, she consulted Sean Cormier, a textile expert and Associate Professor and Chair of the Textile Development & Marketing Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology, in order to get his insight on what to look for when shopping for quick-drying clothing. Sophie also relied on her own expertise as a commerce writer and a frequent traveler who has tried out pieces from several of the brands on this list, including Girlfriend Collective, Athleta, Rains, and more.
