Live Nation has confirmed the newly rescheduled tour dates for Madonna ‘s “Celebration” tour. After having suffered through a “ serious bacterial infection ,” Madonna had to put a halt to the start of her 80-show jaunt but has recently recovered and is now ready to hit the road.

The North American leg of the trek will kick off immediately after the originally announced UK and Europe dates with a start date of Dec. 13 in Brooklyn at Barclays Center. Due to scheduling conflicts, the following shows have been canceled: July 27 in Tulsa, Dec. 22 in Nashville, Jan. 15 in San Francisco, Jan. 18 in Las Vegas, and Jan. 20 in Phoenix. Find tickets on Ticketmaster and Vivid Seats .

“Getting all shows rescheduled was the number one priority,” said Live Nation in a statement. “Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, a few shows noted below will be canceled. Madonna regrets the inconvenience to fans and hopes to make it up to those markets in the future.”

The previously scheduled European dates are slated to begin on Oct. 14 in London and will visit different cities across the European mainland for seven weeks before concluding with two more London dates on Dec. 5 and 6.

The North American tour was originally scheduled to begin July 15 in Vancouver and rehearsals were nearing completion, but the singer was rushed to the hospital on June 24 due to an unspecified “serious bacterial infection” that led to a several-day stay in an intensive care unit, according to an Instagram post from her manager Guy Oseary .

In another post shared on the singer’s Instagram in late July, Madonna shared gratitude for her fans, team and family and said she “realized how lucky I am to be alive.”

“Love from family and friends is the best medicine,” she wrote in a caption to a photo carousel of her with family and friends. “One month out of the hospital and I can reflect. As a mother you can really get caught up In the needs of your children and the seemingly endless giving… But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me. I saw a side to them I had never seen before. It made all the difference. So did the love and support from my friends.”

Madonna has revealed the “first thought” she had after “waking up in hospital”, as she continues to recover from a recent health scare.

On 28 June, it was announced that the “Like a Virgin” singer had been admitted to the ICU after suffering a “serious bacterial infection.”

Madonna’s longtime manager Guy Oseary announced the news, stating that her live show dates would be postponed while she recovers.

On Monday (10 July), Madonna broke her silence following fan concern regarding her health. She thanked them for their “prayers and words of healing and encouragement”, and opened up about her recent experience in the hospital.

Appearing to confirm reports that she had lost consciousness, Madonna said: “My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children.”

Madonna has six children – Lourdes Leon, 26, Rocco Ritchie, 22, 17-year-old David Banda, whom she adopted in 2006, 17-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James, whom she adopted in 2009, and 10-year-old twins Stella and Estere, whom she adopted in 2017.

She added: “My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour.

Elaborating, the singer said: “I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.”

Madonna assured her fans that her “focus is now my health” and went on to announce when she plans to embark on her delayed tour.

“The current plan is to reschedule the North American leg of the tour and to begin in October in Europe,” she said, capping the statement with: “I couldn’t be more grateful for your care and support. Love, M.”

The Queen of Pop was due to begin The Celebration Tour in Canada on 15 July. The Celebration Tour will feature music from Madonna’s catalogue across four decades, and was scheduled to arrive in the UK in October and December.

Billed as a “one-of-a-kind experience”, the tour is also set to feature special guest Bob the Drag Queen, real name Caldwell Tidicue, across all dates.

The Celebration tour, which is set to run for 84 shows, comes two years after she last toured in 2019 in support of her 14th studio album, Madame X.

In January, Madonna announced the tour, telling fans on Instagram to “come join the party”.

Madonna reveals rescheduled Celebration tour dates for 2024 after bacterial infection

Bob the Drag Queen will accompany Madonna for the new set of dates.

madonna tour updates

There's finally a ray of light at the end of Madonna 's health scare, as the pop icon has revealed her rescheduled Celebration tour dates after suffering an infection in June.

After postponing the first leg of her Celebration world tour amid hospitalization in the intensive care unit , the 64-year-old revealed Tuesday that the initial North American portion of the concert series will now take place in early 2024, kicking off on Jan. 8 in Massachusetts and concluding on April 21 in Mexico.

Scheduling conflicts, however, forced the cancellation of several dates, including July 27 in Tulsa, Dec. 22 in Nashville, Jan. 15 in San Francisco, Jan. 18 in Las Vegas, and Jan. 20 in Phoenix.

Madonna also moved a summer date originally set for Aug. 27 at New York City's Madison Square Garden to a block of previously announced December 2023 dates at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Fans holding tickets to the previously scheduled Madison Square Garden concert will have "an exclusive opportunity to purchase tickets to the newly added Barclays Center performance," according to a press release, which also notes that tickets for the original show will be refunded by Monday, Aug. 28. Ticketmaster is expected to send affected purchasers with a link and a code based on their earlier seat locations. The advance sale begins Tuesday, Aug. 29 and runs through Thursday, Aug. 31. A similar system will be used for fans with tickets to the postponed Crypto.com Arena shows in Los Angeles.

All other tickets from the original shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.

The postponed dates come two months after Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, revealed that the superstar contracted a "serious bacterial infection" that prompted her to delay the highly anticipated tour, which EW has confirmed will still embark with special guest, RuPaul's Drag Race winner Bob the Drag Queen .

"On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected," he said in a statement. "At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."

Amid statements of support from friends like Debi Mazar and Rosie O'Donnell , Madonna gave fans an update on her health via an emotional social media post in July.

"Thank you for your positive energy, Prayers and words of healing and encouragement. I have felt your love. I'm on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life," she wrote on Instagram . "My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn't want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone."

Madonna’s hits-filled celebration tour, dissected.

Hear five standouts from the set, and six we wish she’d played.

A magenta dotted line.

By Caryn Ganz

Dear listeners,

Lindsay is desperately seeking some time off this week, so I am the first of your guest playlisters: Caryn, the pop music editor. I’m going to tell you a secret — you could consider it one of my confessions on a dance floor. I saw Madonna’s Celebration Tour seven times; eight if you include the livestream from Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night, where the Queen of Pop wrapped her first-ever retrospective with a free show before an estimated 1.6 million people on Copacabana Beach.

Some have asked why, so a brief explanation: I believe Madonna is the most important and influential solo figure in pop history, and I don’t skip opportunities to see her onstage, where she has innovated and thrilled throughout her four-decade career. (If you’re wondering who was behind “ 60 Times Madonna Changed Our Culture ,” wonder no more.) I was too young to catch the Virgin or Who’s That Girl tours — and nobody took me to Blond Ambition or the Girlie Show (ahem, parents) — so my live history begins with Drowned World in 2001 and I have done my best to catch up.

The Confessions Tour from 2006 is the best I’ve seen in person, the Tears of a Clown revival at Art Basel in 2016 was the zaniest, and Celebration is the first one I’ve reviewed (on its U.S. leg’s opening night in October). Repeated viewings haven’t changed my initial critical overview, though some parts of the show grew on me, some vocal performances sharpened up, and some of the extemporaneous speeches Madonna gave during the two breaks each night designed for them were stunningly raw and moving. (See Bonus Tracks below for more on that.)

But the point of today’s playlist is to take a deeper (and deeper) look at the songs Madonna did — and didn’t — select for the tour. The first five tracks are my favorites from the show, which has a lot to do with how she staged them. The second six are songs that were sorely missed, so should you ever do a Celebration 2, M, please consider them official requests.

Crazy for you,

Listen along while you read.

1. “like a prayer”.

The Celebration Tour stage encompassed 4,400 square feet, including a spinning circular platform that was the focal point for several songs — including this standout, performed on a carousel that rose into the air as shirtless dancers in loincloths and masks draped themselves in crucifixion-like poses. The entire show was set to backing tracks rather than a live band, and for this 1989 hit, it was a remix featuring booming bass and a few seconds of Sam Smith and Kim Petras’s “Unholy” at the beginning and end. (The precise mix isn’t available, but the “7” Remix” edit gets you close.) Chills, I tell you! ▶ Listen on Spotify , Apple Music or YouTube

2. “Live to Tell”

Much has been written about the stunning performance of this 1986 song, which Madonna staged as a tribute to victims of AIDS. She floated above the crowd in a rectangular box gazing at black-and-white portraits of those lost to the disease (including many of her friends and collaborators) on massive screens around her, which multiplied to demonstrate the scale of the epidemic. Each night I saw the show, she had a genuine emotional response and delivered her strongest vocals here.

▶ Listen on Spotify , Apple Music or YouTube

3. “Nothing Really Matters”

Madonna started the show with this song from “Ray of Light” (1998), using it as a table setter before she went back in time and revisited the story of her career. It was a striking entrance: She held a few poses on the spinning platform at the base of the stage, and slowly rotated out toward the audience in a black kimono and halo headpiece. As a song choice, it was a pointed opening statement about maturing, life choices, different kinds of love, and beginnings and endings.

4. “Don’t Tell Me”

The videos for “Don’t Tell Me” and “Hung Up” feature my favorite Madonna choreography, and while I was extremely happy to get them both live on this tour, they were both abbreviated! (So were a lot of other songs, but these felt especially egregious.) Still: I love this one’s stubborn message, and it was a blast to see the group number recreated on the Celebration stage — and a reminder that Madonna, always ahead of the curve, went cowboy chic back in 2000.

5. “Open Your Heart”

The section of the show dedicated to Madonna’s early days in New York and her first hits underscored the grit it took to get noticed and the glee she took in escaping on the dance floor. “Everybody” and “Holiday” were delightful, but her live performance of “Open Your Heart” made me discover the song anew: beautifully constructed, simple and still dramatic in the best ways, a real piece of pop perfection.

OK, now for the requests: This 2000 song joined the set list for the finale in Rio, but it should have been there the whole time! It’s a statement of purpose that encapsulates Madonna’s entire career. It is electrifying heard over the speakers of an arena — we know this, because it was the centerpiece of her Confessions Tour, when she performed it as an ecstatic roller disco in a crisp white suit.

7. “Secret”

Personally, I would have traded “Human Nature” for this “Bedtime Stories” single, which has one of the more unusual chord progressions in the Madonna catalog — a satisfying blend of major and minor that actually sounds mysterious and alluring.

8. “Oh Father”

Motherhood was the defining theme of the Celebration show, a thread that ran from the opener “Nother Really Matters” through the many moments featuring Madonna’s children (four of them went on the road and appeared each night). She performed “Mother and Father,” a song about loss from her 2003 album “American Life,” with her son David, and it did grow on me as a result. (I would have preferred “Hollywood,” but that’s a whole other mood.) Still, I missed “Oh Father,” the dramatic ballad from “Like a Prayer” that was a highlight of Blond Ambition.

9. “Material Girl”

We had a lot of early hits in the show, so I get why it didn’t make the cut, but I will say this: Someone was playing this 1985 smash on a sound system outside of Barclays Center after the second show I saw in Brooklyn, and watching the crowd dance and shout along, I realized I missed this moment during the concert. Still a certified banger!

10. “Beautiful Stranger”

Some of Madonna’s best songs have arrived on soundtracks (that’s where we got “Vogue”!) and I have an enduring love of this kicky little tune from the 1999 album that accompanied “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.”

11. “Frozen”

Madonna performed “Frozen” a handful of times on Celebration, subbing it in for “Rain,” but I got “Rain” all seven times and was thirsty for this “Ray of Light” track instead. It’s a masterpiece of downtempo electro with a beautiful vocal and ear-tickling synth flourishes. It brings the drama we crave! Next time, Madonna, please?

Bonus Tracks

As I mentioned above, Madonna addressed the audience for two extended periods during each show. On Jan. 23 at Madison Square Garden, she spoke about AIDS in New York in the 1980s, singling out Ellen Matzer and Valery Hughes in the audience — two nurses, “heroes,” she said, on the front lines of the epidemic, working in wards where “there were no visitors.” She went on, describing her own stop in a hospital room where she encountered a young man on the brink of death. “I laid down on the bed next to him, and he held my hand and he said, ‘Mother, thank you for coming,’” she said, her voice starting to break. “And it just made me think, these women here tonight, they did this every [expletive] day. And they got no thanks. So please say thank you to them right now.” It was a moment of gratitude that had most of the arena in tears.

Also, Madonna used “I Don’t Search I Find” as the soundtrack to a spectacular video montage near the end of the show that captured what made her inescapable — and irresistible to the media — throughout her career. It’s the best song from her most recent studio album, “Madame X,” and I recommend it.

Madonna

Madonna played the final shows of The Celebration Tour, closing her six-month trek with $225.4 million and 1.1 million tickets sold over 80 shows, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore .

The Celebration Tour is Madonna’s sixth trek to gross more than $100 million. The only other acts to achieve this are the Eagles , The Rolling Stones , Bruce Springsteen and U2 , making her the sole woman in this elite group.

Madonna Wraps Celebration Tour With Record-Setting Free Concert in Rio de Janeiro

Trending on billboard.

By year’s end, Madonna played three shows in Brooklyn and two in Washington, D.C., before resuming the North American leg with 42 more shows from January through April. In the U.S. and Canada, she earned $133.1 million and sold 616,000 tickets, sending the tour’s total figures beyond $200 million and 1 million tickets.

Finally, Madonna went to Latin America for the first time since 2016, as part of the Rebel Heart Tour. Five shows at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes grossed $14.8 million and sold 82,400 tickets.

In all, The Celebration Tour’s $225 million finish marks Madonna’s highest-grossing tour in over a decade. While in Europe, it surpassed her theater experiment on the Madame X Tour ($51.5 million in 2019-20). And during her North American leg, she partied past the Rebel Heart Tour’s $169.8 million from 2015-16.

Madonna’s recent high dates back to 2012’s MDNA Tour, which grossed $305.2 million and sold 2.2 million tickets. That trek played many of the same American arenas as The Celebration Tour, but took her to Europe’s outsized outdoor stadiums, plus a lengthier stadium run throughout Latin America. Her biggest tour ever was the one before that, earning $407.7 million from 3.5 million tickets on the Sticky & Sweet Tour (2008-09).

That average attendance is missing an obvious asterisk. After playing her final show in Mexico City, Madonna staged a free concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marking her first stop in the city since a Dec. 2, 2012, performance on the MDNA Tour. The show’s gargantuan success does not factor into her official Boxscore results because it was a free event, but it’s plenty worth noting that she drew 1.6 million people – roughly 40% more than the combined attendance of her entire tour. According to concert promoter Live Nation, it’s the largest audience ever for a stand-alone concert by any artist in history.

The Celebration Tour pushes Madonna’s reported career total to $1.6 billion and – without accounting for the Brazil show – 12.8 million tickets.

Madonna will finally hit the road for her career-spanning Celebration tour this fall, months after she was hospitalized in June.

Live Nation confirmed in a news release Tuesday that the “Material Girl” singer will begin her series of performances in October, with several shows at The O2 in London. The Celebration tour was initially slated to begin in Vancouver, Canada, on July 15.

Tour plans came to an abrupt halt in late June when the singer, who turns 65 on Wednesday, was hospitalized for a severe infection. Longtime manager Guy Oseary announced on Instagram, “Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU.

“Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care,” Oseary’s statement continued. “At this time, we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.”

Weeks later, Madonna provided fans an update about her health in a statement and selfie shared to her Instagram in July. She told social media followers, “I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for for all the blessings in my life.”

On July 30, the Grammy Award winner shared another Instagram post celebrating one month out of the hospital. She said her six children — Lourdes, Rocco, David, Mercy James, Stelle and Estere — helped her get through the health scare.

Madonna Confirms Plans To Reschedule Celebration Tour

Madonna has given fans an exciting update about her rescheduled Celebration tour after her recent health crisis. The iconic "Like A Virgin" singer had been hospitalized due to a life-threatening bacterial infection. However, after a stint in the ICU, the Queen of Pop is now back on her feet.

On Friday, Madonna updated her followers on her Instagram stories that new tour dates will be revealed in the coming days. "Thank you again for your incredible support and patience over these past few weeks!" she shared, adding, "I'm happy to report that the re-routed tour schedule will be coming in the next few days!"

The singer then concluded with an enthusiastic note, saying, "See you soon for a well-deserved Celebration!!" along with several emojis.

Madonna Says She's 'Lucky To Be Alive'

In an Instagram post on July 31, Madonna attributed her speedy recovery to the love and care of her children, writing that her kids came through for her during her challenging time. Madonna said, "Love from family and friends is the best Medicine. One month out of the hospital and I can reflect."

"As a Mother you can really get caught up In the needs Of your children and the seemingly endless giving...But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me. It made all the difference. So did the love and support from my friends," she added.

Still reflecting on her recovery journey, the 64-year-old expressed gratitude for her regained strength and how lucky she is to be "alive."

She added, "Thank you to all my angels who protected me and let me Stay to finish doing my work!"

Before Madonna's hospitalization, doctors had noted her fatigue and exhaustion and told the Daily Mail about how "worn down and thin" the "Frozen" singer looked.

Despite this challenging setback, Madonna has maintained an optimistic outlook on her recovery path. In a heartwarming Instagram post on July 27, she shared a video of herself dancing and captioned it, "To be able to move my body and dance just a little bit makes me feel like the luckiest star in the world."

The post also served as a celebration of her first album's 40th birthday.

Madonna Says She Did Not Want To 'Disappoint' Her Fans

Madonna's Celebration tour was designed to commemorate her remarkable four decades of hit music. Initially set to commence this Saturday in Detroit, the tour schedule adjustments and dates are still pending confirmation from the artist and her team.

On July 10, the Grammy Award-winner stated her commitment to her tour despite her health scare in an Instagram post where she opened up about her near-death experience.

She noted that one of the things she thought about while in the hospital was how she "did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets to [her] tour."

"The current plan is to reschedule the North American leg of the tour and to begin in October in Europe," the Queen of Pop added. She also made sure to convey her appreciation to fans, stating, "I couldn't be more grateful for your care and support."

Madonna's Friends And Manager Say She's On The Mend

After her shocking hospitalization became public news, Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, posted an update on Instagram about the star's health status. He said the "Vogue" singer had "developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several days stay in the ICU." Oseary added that doctors expect her to make a "full recovery."

Actress and comedienne Rosie O'Donnell, one of Madonna's close friends, also shared an update for fans on Instagram. She responded to a comment asking about how Madonna was handling the crisis, saying, "She is recovering at home — she is very strong in general."

When another follower commented, "God bless her hope she's ok, I don't care about the tour," O'Donnell replied, "She's good." Madonna's best friend, Debi Mazar, also spoke on the singer's health and said she was "on the mend & home resting!"

Madonna has announced that she is rescheduling her “Celebration” tour dates weeks after she was hospitalized for a “serious bacterial infection.”

“Thank you again for your incredible support and patience over these past few weeks!” she tweeted on Friday. “I’m happy to report that the re-routed tour schedule will be coming in the next few days!

“See you soon for a well deserved Celebration!! 🎉🌈🥳💘.”

In January, the “Like a Virgin” singer announced that she would go on a worldwide tour this year in honor of the 40th anniversary of her music career.

The 35-city trek was scheduled to kick off in North America on July 15 in Vancouver, Canada.

After several stops within the US — including New York City, Miami and Los Angeles — the tour was supposed to head to Europe on Oct. 14 before wrapping in December.

Due to high demand in ticket pre-sales, additional shows were added, according to Madonna’s official website .

Before the Grammy winner could even hit the stage, she had to postpone her highly anticipated tour due to an illness.

Page Six exclusively reported in June that Madonna was rushed to a New York City hospital and intubated for at least one night before having the tube removed.

The “Vogue” singer’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary, said on Instagram at the time that his client had “developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU.”

Though a source told us at the time that Madonna was now “out of the ICU,” Oseary explained in his post that she was “still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.”

A source previously told Page Six that the pop star had been “strenuously rehearsing” for weeks  for her tour prior to her hospitalization.

“She had been putting in 12-hour days,” a source close to production told us.

A month after her hospitalization, Madonna penned a touching tribute to her six children — Lourdes, 26, Rocco, 22, David, 17, Mercy, 17, and twins Stella and Estere, 10 — thanking them for their support amid her health scare.

“Love from family and friends is the best Medicine,” she captioned the Instagram post . “As a Mother you can really get caught up In the needs Of your children and the seemingly endless giving……….. But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me.

Madonna attracts 1.6M fans for free concert in Brazil to wrap up her Celebration tour

RIO DE JANEIRO − More than a million people thronged Brazil's Copacabana beach for a free Madonna concert on Saturday, braving the heat to see the end of her "Celebration" world tour .

The sand and oceanfront boulevard around Rio de Janeiro's famed beach were filled for several blocks by a crowd the city estimated at 1.6 million.

Many had been there for hours or even days to get a good spot, while richer fans anchored in dozens of boats near the beach and onlookers crowded beachfront apartments.

Firefighters sprayed water before the concert, when temperatures exceeded 86 degrees Fahrenheit, to cool fans gathered near the pop queen's stage, and drinking water was distributed for free. Temperatures were around 81 F during the late night show.

Madonna, 65, performed songs such as "Like a Prayer," "Vogue" and "Express Yourself" for more than two hours starting at 10:45 p.m. as she wound up the greatest hits tour that started late last year.

"Rio, here we are, in the most beautiful place in the world, with the ocean, the mountains, Jesus," Madonna told the crowd, referring to the city's huge mountaintop Christ the Redeemer statue. "Magic."

Brazilian pop artists Anitta and Pabllo Vittar, as well as younger musicians from samba schools, participated in the show.

More than 3,000 police officers were deployed around the concert area, where the Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart have also drawn million-strong crowds. The authorities used a crowd-management strategy similar to their handling of the city's famous New Year's Eve celebrations.

Brazilian authorities have stepped up their vigilance to head off heat-related health problems after a young Brazilian fan died from heat exhaustion at one of Taylor Swift's Eras tour shows last year.

Rio's state and city governments said they spent 20 million reais ($3.9 million) on the concert, while the rest was financed by private sponsors. The authorities estimate the concert could bring about 300 million reais to Rio's economy.

Madonna knows how to close out a tour!

On Saturday, the GRAMMY-winning musician, 65, made history as she broke the record for the largest audience for a standalone concert by any artist during the final night of her The Celebration Tour at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Madonna's free show was attended by 1.6 million fans. The record was previously held by The Rolling Stones when they performed at the venue in 2006 for a then record-setting 1.5 million fans.

Madonna's Celebration Tour show included performances of some of her biggest hits, including "Just Like A Prayer," "Nothing Really Matters," and "Music." The performance marked Madonna's first show in Brazil since 2012.

The songstress had a special hometown guest during the "Vogue" portion of the show as Anitta surprised the audience. For the segment, the "Bellakeo" singer joined Madonna as a judge for the ball and held up a "10" sign for the dancers.

Following the show, Madonna took to Instagram to share a video, where she celebrates Brazil's culture by waving the flag on stage.

"Blame it on Rio 🇧🇷 Thank You Brazil!! 🔥🇧🇷🔥🇧🇷 🔥 @pabllovittar @itau @tvglobo #musicmakesthepeoplecometogether," she wrote.

Ahead of the moment, Anitta -- who just released her latest album,  Funk Generation -- told ET she would be missing the Met Gala because she was showing up for Madonna.

"Not this year," she told ET when asked if was attending the Met Gala. "I'm gonna be in Brazil with Madonna."

Madonna kicked off her Celebration Tour in October 2023 at London's O2 Arena. The North American leg of the tour began in December 2023, and ran with a series of special guests including Andy Cohen , Kelly Ripa , Cardi B , Pamela Anderson and Julia Garner .

The tour was delayed as the singer recovered from a near-fatal viral infection. Madonna got emotional during night one of the show as she reflected on the health scare .

"It's been a crazy year for me. I didn't think I was going to make it, neither did my doctors. That's why I woke up with all of my children sitting around me," Madonna revealed to a captivated audience at the time.

Madonna Closes Out Celebration Tour in Front of Record-Setting 1.6 Million Fans in Brazil

  • By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

Madonna closed out her career-spanning Celebration Tour Saturday with a free concert at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s Copacabana Beach in front of 1.6 million fans, setting the record for the largest audience ever for a stand-alone concert by any artist in history.

The performance marked Madonna’s first time performing in Brazil since 2012, and was heralded as “a thank you to her fans for celebrating more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour,” Live Nation previously said of the event.

Copacabana Beach has long been a magnet for epic, well-populated shows, notably a Rolling Stones gig in 2006 that drew an estimated (and then record-setting) 1.5 million fans. Madonna’s show Saturday night toppled the record, with Live Nation putting the attendance at 1.6 million people who turned Copacabana Beach into “the world’s largest dancefloor.”

The tour has had several major guests along the way: In Los Angeles,  Kylie Minogue  and  Cardi B  joined her on stage on separate occasions.

Madonna Announces Rescheduled Tour Dates Are Coming Soon: 'See You Soon for a Well Deserved Celebration!!'

The singer's tour was postponed following her hospitalization in June for a serious bacterial infection

madonna tour updates

Madonna is giving an update on the postponed dates for her upcoming tour.

On Friday, the pop icon, 64, revealed that the rescheduled dates for her Celebration World Tour —which was postponed following her hospitalization in June for a serious bacterial infection — will be available soon in a post on her Instagram Story.

“Thank you again for your incredible support and patience over these past few weeks!” Madonna wrote. “I’m happy to report that the re-routed tour schedule will be coming in the next few days!”

“See you soon for a well deserved Celebration!!   🎉🌈🥳💘,” the singer added.

Madonna/Instagram

Last month, Madonna announced that her upcoming world tour, celebrating the 40th anniversary of her debut album , will now launch in Europe in October with dates in the U.S. rescheduled to take place afterward. The postponement came following her hospitalization for a serious bacterial infection, which was first confirmed by her  longtime manager Guy Oseary in a June 28 Instagram post .

"On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which [led] to a several day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected," said Oseary in the Instagram post. "At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which  includes the tour ."

The morning after Oseary's post, PEOPLE confirmed Madonna had returned home and was continuing her recovery. "She's feeling better and following doctor's orders and resting," said a source close to the singer.

Madonna’s Friday tour update comes days after she praised her children for their support during her hospitalization in a candid Instagram post.

“Love from family and friends is the best Medicine. One month out of the hospital and I can reflect,” Madonna began. She shared several photos alongside her message, including one that showed her hugging her son David Banda , 17, and another posing with her daughter Lourdes Leon , 26.

“As a Mother you can really get caught up In the needs Of your children and the seemingly endless giving,” Madonna continued. “But when the chips were down my children really showed up for me. I saw a side to them I had never seen before. It made all the difference.”

“So did the love and support from my friends,” Madonna also mentioned, before pointing out another photo she had posted of her holding a framed polaroid photo. “If you zoom into this Picture I am holding You will see A Polaroid taken by Andy Warhol of Keith Haring wearing a jacket with Michael Jackson’s face painted on it. A perfect triangle of Brilliance.”
