Just like a mirage, the white buildings of Ochos Rios seems to appear unexpectedly from lush vegetation covering the coast. On Main Street, you will be able to shop or pass your day on solid ground. However, during your cruise to Jamaica and Caribbean sea , we suggest you try the many outdoor activities offered on its rivers, such as kayaking and tubing. With an MSC excursion , you will be able to admire the Konoko Falls & Gardens : an explosion of tropical plant and animal life with different aromas emanating from sinuously shaped flowers and colorful parrots at every corner.  Another must-see attraction are the waterfalls along the Dunn River: almost 650 feet of natural steps over which the water flows to then fall about 200 feet directly into the sea. To enjoy this spectacle to the fullest, these enchanting waterfalls can be climbed via stairs set on either side. The beach below with its extremely fine, pure white sand is equally beautiful. The sea of Ochos Rios will also grant you the opportunity of a close encounter with a very popular sea mammal: the dolphin.

MSC Seascape | Our Daily Cruise Itinerary

My husband and I recently returned from sailing on the MSC Seascape with my side of the family. It was truly a great time! We sailed for 7 nights and had 4 ports of call — Ocean Cay, Bahamas; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; George Town, Cayman Islands; and Cozumel, Mexico. I have already shared a post detailing everything I packed for this trip. You can find that here for tons of vacation outfit inspiration. For this post, I am focusing on our daily cruise itinerary including what we did at each port of call.

Day 1 – Ocean Cay, Bahamas

Our first port of call was MSC’s private island, Ocean Cay. We had a great time at this beautiful island in the Bahamas! This was probably the brightest, most crystal clear water we saw throughout our entire cruise. What I enjoyed about the private island is that the food and drink packages still work, so you only have to pay for certain speciality items like the ice cream and coffee shops. There is a large buffet area with food and drinks included, plus several smaller food stands throughout the island. Although the island has some water activities to take part in, we spent our time enjoying the various beaches.

Day 2/6 – At Sea

This specific sailing on the MSC Seascape included two full days at sea. The ship had many daily activities to take part in, especially on the at sea days. We enjoyed the multiple bars, waterslides, casino, and Robotron – the first robotic coaster at sea. It did cost a small fee to ride the Robotron but the experience was truly one of a kind. There were also multiple themed parties at night on the ship, as well as other activities such as karaoke. Lastly, one of our favorite events to attend on a nightly basis were the shows in the theatre! There were a wide variety of shows ranging from singing, dancing, acrobatics, and even magicians.

Day 3 – Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Our next stop on the MSC Seascape was in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. There are several excursions you can book through the cruise line, however we decided to enjoy another relaxing day at the beach. We bought day passes for Hotel Riu Ocho Rios through the Resort for a Day site . It was fairly easy to book and coordinate. We were provided transportation to and from the resort which was about a 10 minute drive from the port. Included in our day pass was full use of the beach areas and pools, plus all food and drinks. Overall we had a great experience at this resort!

Day 4 – George Town, Cayman Islands

Our day in George Town, Cayman Islands was the most eventful out of them all! We chose an exciting excursion with many activities — Cayman by Land and Sea. During this full day excursion, we were transported to multiple stops in a comfortable bus with an informative tour guide. We first briefly stopped by the Governor’s House and Seven Mile Beach. Next was the Tortuga Rum Company where we were able to sample rum from the area and purchase a typical Cayman lunch. One of my favorite stops on this excursion was to the Turtle Center. We saw tons of turtles at this conservation facility, from baby hatchlings all the way up to turtles over 500 pounds.

Our final stop on land was to the rock formations of Hell. These formations were interesting to see and learn about, and the overall environment of the area was very cute and quaint. You could get your passport stamped for a small fee and even send a postcard at the post office. We then drove a short distance to a dock where we embarked on a 45 minute boat ride to Stingray City. Swimming with stingrays with the help of a knowledgeable guide was such an exciting experience and one that I will never forget! We thoroughly enjoyed the variety of this tour and highly recommend it for seeing as much as possible of this beautiful island!

Day 5 – Cozumel, Mexico

Our last stop on the MSC Seascape was to Cozumel, Mexico. We also stopped at this port when we cruised on the Norwegian Bliss in December. You can read about our excursion to the Tulum Ruins here . During this trip, we booked an excursion through MSC to Playa Mia Grand Beach Park. It was extremely hot on this day so we didn’t do much more than enjoy the water, food, and drinks. It was a little disappointing that the use of the umbrellas were not included in the price of our ticket. However, we really enjoyed the fresh guacamole and shrimp ceviche!

Final Recommendations

• Don’t forget to pack for theme nights. Most cruises have a formal night and white night, but every ship is different. We also had tropical night and Italian night on the MSC Seascape.
• Consider buying the drink packages and wifi packages before getting on board to save money and time. You can also buy excursions ahead of time so you know what to pack.
• Download the MSC app. This was very helpful for viewing the daily itinerary and making reservations for the nightly theatre shows.
• MSC was different from our previous cruise because the dining time was assigned after boarding and you dine at the same time and in the same location for the entire week. We were able to request to change our dining time on the first night and it wasn’t an issue.
• Take the time to enjoy all that the cruise has to offer! We enjoyed our time on the MSC Seascape and would recommend this sailing for your next family vacation.

MSC cruise excursion - great adventure!

Embarked on the Dunn River Falls excursion arranged by our cruise ship. The trip was hiking up the Dunn River Falls from beach to top...650 feet straight up, lunch and a tour of the surrounding area. The Falls are certainly not for the faint at heart ... but what a great trip. Paula and Troy took care of us on our bus and lunch. At the Park T Williams (looks just like Will Smith) took excellent care of our group by ensuring that we were well entertained and safe. Our videographer, Kumar was also wonderful, capturing all the moments and keeping us ‘pumped up’. Lunch was very good with tables overlooking the Caribbean. Highly recommend but be sure to bring closed toe water shoes. You can also buy decent quality with Jamaica on them (souvenir) for $10. If you bring your iPhone be sure to have a water tight case. We didn’t so left behind as you do get soaked. We ended up buying the video which we can get some still shots from as well.

Highly recommend. Not nearly as strenuous as first anticipated and a unique experience. I went in January, it probably feels even better as it warms up. The video photographer seemed rather taken aback that we didn’t buy his DVD, and the guide will hound you for tips but it was still very enjoyable.

The river falls are a must to visit whilst in Jamaica. Walking up a fast running waterfall. Can be cold and extremely wet. You need water shoes as you walk up rocks to the top of the waterfall. You need dry clothes for later also but this is an amazing adventure. The guides are good ensuring that they take your picture during the walk. If you like water they will push you in to certain pools and encourage you to stand under the running falls. Not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.

Excellent and a must to visit. Especially by catamaran.. make sure you take some dollars for tips for the guide's.. the camera man will video you going up the falls . Video's are 30 dollars but well worth the memories 😀

We found excellent Jerk Chicken on the main road at the entrance to the falls, It's called Dunns River Jerk Center.

The falls are amazing. The guides were really nice and friendly. It’s very safe and we took beautiful pics. A lot of fun! Downside: the video is costly $40! And they ask for tips all the time! But it’s worth it!

The 2022-built MSC Seascape cruise ship is Italy-built (by Fincantieri), MSC's 21th liner, and also the second SEASIDE EVO-Class vessel in the fleet - preceded by sistership MSC Seashore (2021).

The vessel (IMO number 9843807) is currently Malta- flagged (MMSI 256059000) and registered in Valletta .

History - construction and ownership

MSC Cruises (MSC Crociere) is a passenger shipping company headquartered in Genoa and Naples . It was established in 1960. Today, MSC Crociere is a subsidiary of MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) - the world's 2nd largest containership company . MSC is the world's largest privately/family-owned cruise company. By annual passenger shipping volumes, MSC is ranked the world's 4th largest cruise company - after Carnival Corporation , RCG-Royal Caribbean Group and NCLH-Norwegian .

In November 2017 MSC ordered 2x "Seaside EVO" class ships from Fincantieri (contract value EUR 1,8 billion). The new vessels are bigger (16 m longer, 17330 GT-tons larger, with 200 more cabins / 467 more passengers) in comparison to Seaview and Seaside . Newbuilds' deliveries were scheduled for 2021 (Seashore) and 2023 (Seascape). With Seaside EVO, MSC had a total investment of EUR 10,5 billion into 12 new vessels with scheduled deliveries by 2026.

The 4500-passenger "Seaside EVO" ship design is an enlarged version of MSC's Seaside-Class. Both classes were developed for year-round operations in warm climates. This explains signature features like large-sized outdoor areas, top-deck ropes course, 5-slide water park, 3x glass-floored catwalks, glass-walled (oceanview) elevators, wraparound Promenade Deck (lined with shops-bars-restaurants with both indoor-outdoor seating). Seaside-EVO ships have larger MSC Yacht Club (Suite-only complex), larger public areas, more outdoor whirlpools, more specialty restaurants with alfresco dining areas (on Promenade Deck 8), more staterooms.

Among vessels' technological features are advanced water- and garbage treatment plants, latest-generation scrubbers (pollution control technology removing particulates some gases from ship's exhaust streams), optimized hull, anti-fouling paints (specialized underwater hull coating), advanced heat recovery system, LED lighting (throughout). The vessel is fully compliant with IMO's "Safe Return to Port" requirement (how long the cruise ship should remain safe for evacuation).

Seascape is also one of the "smart ships" series and part of MSC's EUR 13,6 billion (10-year / 2017-2027) fleet expansion program that includes 17 newbuilds - up to a combined fleet of 29 liners.

MSC Seascape is fitted with new technologies specifically designed to improve passengers' onboard digital experience. MSC partnered with Samsung to support NFC (near-field communication) technology enabling passengers to use digital devices (smartphones, cruise card, bracelets) to geolocate themselves (and their relatives, kids, travel companions), to access their staterooms or make onboard payments. Interactive screens throughout the ship allow real-time booking (cruise and tours) and making reservations (dining, spa, beauty treatments). Beacon technology sends location-based, customized notifications to passengers' phones as they move around the ship. Beacons are triggered whenever a connected device moves into their vicinity.

Decks and Cabins

MSC Seascape staterooms (2270 total) are in 34 categories. The largest category is the YC Royal Suite (615 ft2). Seascape's cabins and suites include 14x aft-facing corner suites, 28x suites with outdoor jacuzzi (on the balcony), 6x bow-facing Grand Suites (2-bedroom, with swimming pools on the balcony), terraced suites (overlooking Promenade Deck), cluster cabins (for large families), 75x wheelchair-accessible cabins for disabled passengers (including 43x Inside, 8x Oceanview, 26x Balcony, 4x Suite).

Family staterooms' max occupancy varies between 6 (SUPERFAMILY) and 10 (SUPERFAMILY PLUS) passengers.

The high-tech Chora Theatre (Theater Lounge) is the venue for evening Broadway-style production shows with compelling entertainment based on professional performers and top-notch media equipment. It spreads over 4 decks and features a 3-deck high Onyx Wall (back-lit), Swarovski crystal-covered staircases, Top Sail Lounge (bar lounge with live music, gourmet canapes, complimentary beverages), exclusive restaurant (breakfast-lunch-dinner, premium wine list, daily-changed a la carte menu), poolside bar and grill. The private sundeck and pool area were expanded to 21000+ ft2 (1950 m2), with a bigger swimming pool and a panoramic Jacuzzi (8-seats, with individual controlled jets). The complex houses 131x Suites plus 2x Owners Suites (new category cabins sized 1054 ft2 / 98 m2) with larger terraces (outdoor hot tub, glass wall, dining, and sundeck areas).

Seascape ship's outdoor deck space is also the fleet's largest (~13000 m2 / 140000 ft2) and includes the 540-m (1772-ft) long Waterfront Promenade lined up with outdoor bars and dining venues.

Itineraries

MSC Seascape itinerary program (at least the inaugural cruise season 2022-2023) is based mainly on 7-day Western and Eastern Caribbean voyages leaving roundtrip from homeport Miami (Florida USA) . The 7-day roundtrips can be combined into 14-day B2Bs/back-to-back cruises . Special itineraries have lengths 6-8-13-15-days.

The Maiden Voyage is currently scheduled for November 19, 2022. The 17-day Transatlantic crossing (RepositionCruises.com) is from Italy to the USA (Civitavecchia-Rome to NYC New York), and visits Spain (Barcelona, Valencia, Cadiz), Madeira Island (Funchal), and Bermuda (Kings Wharf/overnight).

During winter season 2022-2023, the liner from PortMiami visits the following destinations/ports:

• 7-day "Eastern Caribbean" itinerary to Bahamas ( MSC Ocean Cay and Nassau ), Puerto Rico ( San Juan ) and Dominicana ( Puerto Plata )

In January 2024, MSC announced that in November 2025, Seascape will start year-round homeporting in Galveston Texas USA , with a Caribbean schedule based on 7-night roundtrips visiting Mexico (Costa Maya, Cozumel) and Honduras (Roatan Island). During MSC Seaside 's delivery ceremony (November 29, 2017), MSC announced an order for two "Seaside EVO" ships from Fincantieri (contract value EUR 1,8 billion). The new ships are 17,330 GT-tons larger, 16 m (52 ft) longer and with 467 more passengers ( capacity ) in comparison to the sisterships Seaview and Seaside. Deliveries were scheduled for 2021 May ( Seashore ) and 2022 November (Seascape).

In early-August 2018, MSC signed an agreement for EUR 1,5 billion (USD 1,74 billion) for both "Seaside EVO" shipbuilding projects. The financing was via a partnership with a syndicate of three lender banks (Unicredit, BNP Paribas, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti). Fully backing the credit line was the Italian export credit agency SACE SIMEST. With the addition of Seaside EVO ships, MSC had an unprecedented total investment of EUR 10,5 billion into 12 newbuilds with scheduled deliveries by 2027.

The vessel's keel-laying ceremony (aka coin ceremony) was held on June 24, 2021, at Fincantieri Monfalcone Shipyard (near Trieste, Italy ). The ceremony's godmothers (madrinas) were two employees - Silvia Bozzetto (Category Manager & Retail with MSC) and Jolette Vincenzi (Production Supervisor with Fincantieri). The godmothers placed 2 special edition coins under the keel block (hull's first block) for good fortune. The special event was attended by Pierfrancesco Vago (MSC's Executive Chairman) and Giuseppe Bono (Fincantieri's CEO).

The vessel (yard/hull number 6307) was launched/floated out from drydock on November 18, 2021. The ceremony was attended by Giuseppe Bono (Fincantieri) and Pierfrancesco Vago (MSC). Curiously, on the same day was officially named the sistership MSC Seashore . Seashore's christening was held at MSC Ocean Cay (Bahamas) , making it the ever-first official ship naming ceremony held on a private island.

Fun fact is that the MSC EVO shipbuilding project (1 unit construction) involves 10+ million manhours of construction works and ~4000 shipyard employees. The ship design features large play areas for children, Adventure Trail ropes course, an interactive aqua park with 5x waterslides, 3x glass-floored catwalks, Promenade Deck (at sea level) lined up with shops-bars-restaurants (with both indoor-outdoor seatings), glass-walled (sea-view) elevators.

The company Shores Global LLC provided all the vessels' outdoor wicker furniture (on passenger cabin balconies and poolside) or 3000+ pieces (deckchairs and sun loungers per ship). The company is a major cruise ship furniture supplier, offering consulting (fabrics and materials) and production process management.

The ship was officially delivered to MSC from Fincantieri on November 16, 2022. The delivery ceremony (held at Monfalcone yard) was attended by Matteo Salvini (since 2022 - Italy's  Deputy Prime Minister of Italy and Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility), Anna Maria Cisint (Monfalcone's Mayor), Massimiliano Fedriga (Friuli-Venezia Giulia's President), Admiral Nicola Carlone (Port Authorities' Commandant), Zoe Africa Vago (ship's godmother), Captain Roberto Leotta (ship’s Master), Pierfrancesco Vago (MSC), Gianluigi Aponte (MSC Group's Founder and Chairman), General Claudio Graziano (Chairman of Fincantieri's Board of Directors) and Pierroberto Folgiero (Fincantieri's CEO), Luigi Matarazzo (Fincantieri's General Manager Merchant Ships Division), Cristiano Bazzara (Monfalcone shipyard's Director).

MSC Seascape's christening ceremony was on December 7, 2022, held dockside at Manhattan Cruise Terminal in NYC (New York USA) . Untraditionally for MSC cruise ships, Seascape's godmother Sophia Loren (1934-born Italian film actress who named each new MSC liner since 2003) named the vessel virtually (via real-time live video streaming), while Alexa Aponte-Vago (daughter of Gianluigi Aponte/MSC Group’s founder and executive chairman) cut the ribbon and officially named the boat. The naming event was attended by 3000+ guests.

Seascape is MSC's first liner named in New York City. Starting in April 2023, the company plans to homeport at least one liner in NYC for year-round roundtrips leaving out of Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

Geneva, Switzerland, 02 May 2024 - MSC Cruises serves up a comprehensive range of summer 2024 and winter 2024/2025 sailings to the Caribbean , providing guests an incredible choice of ships and enriching itineraries to some of the most coveted destinations in the region including The Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Martinique, Mexico and more.

The Caribbean is a popular destination any time of year, renowned for its incredible white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, magnificent landscapes, and charming coastal cities, filled with rich culture and historical sites. Two ships will offer sailings out of PortMiami: MSC Magnifica  with three to seven-night sailings including to the Key West (Florida), Costa Maya and Cozumel (Mexico), Isla de Roatan (Honduras), Belize City (Belize), Nassau and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve (Bahamas). Meanwhile, MSC Seascape  will offer seven-night sailings, calling at destinations including San Juan (Puerto Rico), George Town (Cayman Islands), Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), Ocho Rios (Jamaica), Cozumel (Mexico), and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. MSC Meraviglia  will set sail from the iconic New York, with seven-night itineraries including port of calls in Port Canaveral, Nassau and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. MSC Seashore  will also offer the chance to visit the Caribbean’s prized gems with three to seven-night sailings from Port Canaveral to destinations including Nassau, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Costa Maya and Cozumel.

WINTER 2024/2025 SAILINGS For sun seekers looking for a winter escape, six ships will offer unforgettable itineraries from three to 10 nights from Miami, New York and Orlando and Martinique . Three ships will offer sailings out of PortMiami : MSC Divina  will offer three to four-night itineraries including to the Bahamas with visits to Nassau and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. Her longer sailings will offer 10-night itineraries including to Aruba, Curaçao and Dominican Republic. MSC Seascape will offer seven-night cruises to the Eastern Caribbean including the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, and to the Western Caribbean including to Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Mexico, and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. Lastly, MSC Seaside  will offer captivating seven-night cruises, alternating between the Eastern Caribbean including to The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic and the Western Caribbean including Mexico, Honduras or Belize, and The Bahamas itineraries including Ocean cay MSC Marine Reserve. OCEAN CAY MSC MARINE RESERVE All four ships sailing the Caribbean this Summer 2024 and five ships sailing this Winter 2024/2025 season will visit Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve , MSC Cruises’ stunning private island located in The Bahamas , dedicated to the restoration of marine resources and the ongoing conservation of marine life. With more than two miles of pristine sand across eight world class beaches, this tropical paradise invites guests to discover the island’s natural beauty and vibrant spirit of the Bahamas, with plenty of areas to soak up the sun and enjoy endless activities on island, while surrounded by sweeping vistas of crystal blue waters. Ifølge MSC Cruises’ eget cruisebarometer er sommermånedene, altså mai til oktober, de mest populære blant norske cruiseturister. I 2023 bestilte 57 prosent cruise i den perioden, med juni som den mest populære måneden å dra på cruise med 19,7 prosent.

Nå presenterer de sommerens cruise i Karibia, med reiseruter til noen av de mest ettertraktede destinasjonene i regionen, som Bahamas, Den dominikanske republikk, Jamaica, Martinique og Mexico, blant andre.
