Brand new Wave 2021 seat is more comfortable with improved bamboo fabric seat liner replacing jersey knit fabric and lie-flat recline positions with adjustable calf support. The seat can accommodate up to 55 lbs. and is reversible, facing you or the world with 12 configurations with the bassinet included in the box. The seat is placed higher up for convenience, allowing you easy access to your baby; you don’t have to bend much. Besides, the seat may function as a high chair at a restaurant table so your baby won’t miss any actions or chances to interact with you. There is a 3-point state-of-the-art harness system to protect your baby, easy to buckle up and an easily removable belly bar for added protection.  

Bassinet   

The bassinet included in the box is suitable for newborns and can carry up to 20 lbs. Carry your newborn in the bassinet alone, or go for double mode with the toddler in the primary seat. This bassinet is approved for overnight sleeping, so you can rest assured that your baby may have a sound sleep while on travel. The bassinet comes with magnetic closures, a cozy apron instead of Velcro straps in the original Wave, and a full coverage SPF 50+ canopy with two pop-out sun visors. Your baby remains protected from the sun’s harmful rays.  

During hot summer days, mesh fabric and the magnetic closure may come in handy to facilitate a gentle breeze into the bassinet. Also, there is a ventilation system at the base of the bassinet to provide ample ventilation. As far as the fabric quality is concerned, the bamboo lining is premium, hypoallergenic, and bacteria-resistant. A belly bar is there in the bassinet for added protection, and it has a premium leather wrapping for a firm and comfortable grip.  

Tandem seat  

The Wave 21 offers conversion to a double stroller to carry both your newborn and the toddler at a time. Wave Tandem seats are compatible, should be purchased separately. With the addition of a tandem seat, bassinet, and stroller board, there are 30 different seating modes. The most striking feature is weight capacity of the tandem seat is equal to the primary seat weight capacity, 55lbs.    

Harness   

The harness system is top-notch and effortless to buckle up with the help of the three easy clicks magnetic buckle, so you have easy access to your baby and more convenience for you. With a gentle pinching, unbuckle the harness to get your baby out of the stroller. The harness is ergonomic and comfortable with padded chest and harness pads, and ergonomic design.

Frame & handlebar  

2021 version is 4.4 lbs. Lighter with ultra-light magnesium alloy frame. Although we found the frame is sturdy and handles shock efficiently while we hit on the road with this premium buggy.     

The Wave 2021 handlebar is telescopic height adjustable by 6 inches. The shortened height is 36 inches; you can raise it by 42 inches for taller parents. The handlebar has premium leather wrapping for a better and comfortable grip.  

Canopy  

The Wave canopy features an extendable dual-panel sun canopy with the peek-a-boo window with a magnetic closure if you need to block air. A hidden mesh window is also there for proper ventilation and air circulation if needed. The canopy comes with UPF50+ protection and dual panels and pop-out sun visors to fully protect from the sun’s heat. 

Cupholder   

Whereas most strollers do not come with a cup holder, you need to purchase them separately as an accessory. This hefty-priced stroller comes with a cup holder included in the box.  The cup holder is a genuine one, no gimmick; place it on either the right or the left side of the frame.  

Storage basket  

The storage basket on Wave 2021 has a whooping capacity of 33 pounds. The bin is robust with a rigid base. A large diaper bag easily fits into the stroller along with other essential items, groceries. The basket is 8 inches deep, and the dimension is 19 x 17 (length x width) inches. There is a small interior pocket for organizing small stuff like keys and other smaller things.  

Wheels & suspension  

This Silver Cross gem of a stroller boasts a puncture-proof wheel. The wheel design now has a deeper tread for more traction.  The rear wheels are bigger than 11,” and the swiveling front wheels are 7.5″. The front wheels are lockable for rolling over uneven surfaces. Tires are foam-filled to glide over smoothly on most terrains.

Foldability .

Silver Cross has made it easier to fold; you can fold this premium buggy with a bit of effort. One thing that bothers me is the folded size, and it does not fold into a compact shape. Still, you can easily fit in most car boots.   

How to fold  

• Start by locking the wheels with your foot   
• Pull up on the handlebar triggers and lower the stroller until it automatically locks in.   

How to unfold  

• Undo the side lock on the frame   
• Pull up on the handlebar to keep steady; you can step on the rear axle if necessary.   

Maneuverability  

Brand-new Wave 2021 boasts excellent maneuverability; it’s easy to stroll and requires two hands to push. Its rear wheels are larger. The front-wheel swivels, and you can lock it to deal with bumpy terrains. Its superb all-wheel suspension, shock-absorbing wheels, and sturdy frame give it an off-road capacity. This stroller can handle rougher terrains like grassy fields, gravel, or sand easily. But here is a reminder I would like to give, it’s not suitable for extensive off-road tracking. If you are into frequent trailing or hiking, don’t fall for the gimmick “all-terrain”; avoid this stroller. But it can handle most terrains with ease. For trendy city and suburban parents, it’s a super smooth stroller to push in style.     

Versatility

The Wave 2021 is versatile right out of the box, comes with a bassinet and adapters to go double! Attach the bassinet and the seat to carry your newborn and toddler at the same time. The adapters are adjustable to change the height of the bassinet or tandem seat slightly for more convenience. You can also attach a car seat, which makes it a convertible travel system too!     

With the addition of a bassinet, a tandem seat, or a car seat, the Silver Cross Wave 2021 can easily turn into a double stroller. The tandem seat can carry a baby up to 55 lbs., 10 lbs—a massive upgrade in capacity over the 2020 version. The stroller frame can hold on to two seats, two bassinets, or two car seats up to different 30 modes for convenient sitting arrangement. Some double seating modes may reduce the seat space; some positions won’t allow reclining the seat. However, we cannot call it a downsize since most double strollers have a similar issue. We don’t often use so much variety and stick to a favorite position.

Have always loved Silvercross travel…

Have always loved Silvercross travel systems, strollers and car seats, having owned several products over the years with no issues, last month I “accidentally” threw in my stroller hood in for a cold wash for 20 mins but it didn’t survive. I emailed and called Silvercross to purchase a replacement but initially, there was no response for 2-3 weeks, which I was getting a bit helpless and dejected; I had been calling every other day for long periods of time, they seemed to be very busy, but then suddenly, knight in shining armour appeared in the shape of Riccardo B, and he resolved all my stresses, swiftly and sent me a replacement within 48 hours. Thank you Riccardo, you are amazing! I look forward to using my stroller again and thankful I didn’t need to get a new stroller with a different brand. I highly recommend Silvercross.

No parasol for their Reef range!!

No parasol for their Reef range!!! Extremely disappointed as spent near £1700 for travel system in the winter and now coming to the spring/ summer season it’s apparent that we need a parasol, as the top of chair does not come down enough to get shade on baby’s face. Looking online on their site, I was unable to find the matching parasol so I contacted customer service! Guess what, no parasol has been manufactured to match the range! What? Is this a joke? Paying this amount of money for a travel system and they have no parasol to match?! And the only parasol they manufacture - black?!? - is not compatible with reef?! What? Are you serious? Beyond disappointed!

Awful Customer Service, Avoid at all costs!

Bought a 3 piece Bromley nursery set which arrived with damaged parts to the wardrobe called and spoke to Tamsine who has then ignored follow up emails. Have had to phone several times as all my emails are constantly ignored. Was told last week the replacement parts would be with me in 5 working days which would’ve been the 9th of May and already nearly 2 weeks since I first got in touch, however, It’s now the 14th and I’ve still no parts as promised and I’m being ignored yet again by Silver Cross. Customer service is awful and non existent. Due to give birth any day now and I’ve no delivery date for the items and no idea what’s happening as no one replies. Terrible company to deal with when they’re the ones that have sent damaged parts!

Poor quality product, poor customer service experience

We bought a highchair from silver cross just under a year before it developed a fault. The clasp/clip on the chair broke through normal light use - Probably for around 4-5 months, using it twice per day on average. After a few slow replies from customer service we got to the point of agreeing a replacement, but it was out of stock and not due in for many weeks. Again we are now waiting for a reply from them to discuss alternatives (if any). Not good enough.

Worst customer service for such a reputable brand!!!

I ordered a sleigh cotbed back on the 8th March. After getting the nursery ready, I went to build the cotbed on the 19th April only to find a manufacturing defect with one of the side panels. I reported this issue to Silver Cross on the 22nd April, provided photo evidence of the issue. I was told by Hannah that the replacement part will be ordered and issued to me. After not hearing anything back, I called up to chase down the order. I was told I would receive a call back of which I never did. The 29th April, I called again and spoke with Jennifer who checked the system and confirmed that no replacement part was ordered. I went through the process again and received email confirmation that I should receive my replacement part within 5 working days. Much to my surprise, I received a text confirmation from Jade Home Assembly on the 1st May saying they will be in contact to deliver my replacement part. The issue then was that the tracking reference I was given was not found. On the 3rd May, I spoke with Jade Home Assembly and I was told that the part will be delivered by a courier. Still no sign of my replacement part, I contacted Jade again who then provided me with my 2nd tracking reference, this time with Yodel. With no movements on the tracking, I contacted Jade on the 13th May who advised that there was a delay with the courier and provided me with a 3rd tracking reference. Update with Yodel, they received the spare part on the 14th May and then reported to me yesterday that due to the conditions and contents, the parcel can’t be delivered and to contact the sender. After a month of reporting this issue with my Silver Cross product, I am yet to receive a replacement part. I’m still awaiting a call back from Jade who were going to contact their warehouse team and explain to me why my parcel won’t be delivered. And I’m still awaiting a call back from Silver Cross, after speaking with Tamsin who was going to speak to the Spare Parts Manager and issue me another replacement part using another courier. I have yet to receive any response through email or any calls back. I’m happy to accept that issues can happen with the manufacturing of product, but the customer service that I’ve received is unacceptable. For such a reputable brand, this treatment has been appalling.

Strap broke within warranty and new high chair received

Brilliant service. The strap on a high chair we purchased about 9 months ago. Emailed silver cross and they sorted immediately. They didn’t stock the high chair I had anymore so couldn’t send replacement straps, instead they sent me the new version of the high chair to replace. Very easy and quick communication/delivery/collection.

Just a quick review to say how great the customer service was I received recently from Tamsine. We have a Brighton Cot which when converting the cot into a bed I accidentally broke one of the timber leg supports. I contacted Silver Cross’s support team asking for a replacement, which I would have been happy to pay for, and Tamsine was fantastic in sourcing me the piece I needed. Really great, quick customer service and a fantastic product.

Fantastic Product and Great Customer Service

I just wanted to write and acknowledge the fantastic service I’ve received from Sally in the Customer Service Team. I had a few questions regarding which model to buy as I’m a first time parent and she was more than happy to help. She put my mind at ease regarding the delivery times as it said it wasn’t in stock now and how items can be sent out individually when they come, in particular the car seat which arrived a few days after the order just in case he arrived early which was a big weight off my mind. The product itself is fantastic and I can’t fault the company, product or people at all. Would definitely recommend.

Great customer service

Bought the motion 360 car seat and unfortunately it had a small fault with the belt. I hadn’t registered warranty within 28 days of purchase as I hadn’t opened it until long after this as I was using a different car seat initially. I spoke with Hannah Dixon in customer service who was exceptionally helpful. She asked for some details and arranged a new car seat to be sent out and the old one to be collected. She was thorough and kept in communication giving my updates throughout the process. Great customer service and Hannah is an asset to the team!

Great customer service!

The second time I have had to contact Silver Cross with an issue with my reef travel system, not ideal, but was a small issue this time, and Tamsine was extremely helpful. These days I find even moderately good customer service hard to come by so it has been lovely dealing with Silver cross both times I have had an issue. Only giving 4 stars as my reef chassis had a fault and one side was collapsing. On some investigation I found that this is quite common, but the girl I had helping me with that issue, was again, extremely helpful and a replacement was issued which was amazing. Thank you!

No customer service

Bought the wave eclipse pram which was pretty expensive. The seat adjustment broke. Sent a warranty request form, havent heard anything back, for two weeks. Customer service is terrible. Tried calling no answer. Tried emailing no reply.

How did this product make your life easier?

As this travel system was tested primarily as a pushchair, its stand-out feature is the Genius harness system with a magnetic buckle, trademarked by Silver Cross. It made securing our son in the pushchair straightforward, the five-point fastenings fitting together in three clicks while the buckle itself has a childproof release for peace of mind.

The chassis has been designed with in-line wheels, making it narrower than other pushchairs and more manoeuvrable on tight town centre pavements and in crowded shops as a result. It offers minimal rolling resistance, so is near effortless to push in a straight line, regardless of whether you’re on a flat stretch or facing an incline. Over pavements at least it also feels smooth, with our little one able to fall asleep within the pushchair on more than one occasion. Even on cobbled streets, there wasn’t excessive vibration felt through the handle. The Wayfarer though is explicitly marketed as being an urban travel system, and while it copes admirably on short strolls on grassy surfaces, we wouldn’t want to venture too deep into the countryside with this pushchair.

Aged 15 months, our son was too old to use the carrycot but were he younger it would’ve presented a very attractive feature. It has soft bamboo fabric with a thick padded mattress and can be used as an overnight sleeping carrycot.

Would you recommend this to other parents?

There’s much we liked about this special edition of the Silver Cross Wayfarer that’s certainly worthy praise, most relating to the quality of the materials used throughout and its many thoughtful details.

From how the fabrics look and feel to the use of faux leather over inferior rubber for touchpoints (the handle, bumper barn and pulls for the zips) it gives the impression of being a premium product. What’s more, all of the features that comprise the Wayfarer Constellation (from the footmuff to rucksack changing bag) are nicely coordinated.

Other details that are nonetheless appreciated are that the rain cover comes with its own storage pouch, which should prolong its life, while the UPF 50+ hood includes a Perspex viewing window rather than a mesh one.

It being winter, we opted to fit the footmuff and were very impressed with it. It’s soft and padded, and also has additional zips allowing it to be secured above the child’s shoulders, so on especially cold days arms can be kept inside to keep little ones toasty. Likewise, the fleece lining doesn’t extend to the bottom edge, with an easier to wipe clean material used where muddy shoes would rest – another nice touch.

We also really like the changing bag. It’s a good size for multiple essentials and has several zipped compartments. Our only complaint was that the supplied changing mat is small – arguably too small for our one-year-old.

It has a large basket – it certainly fares well against rival pushchairs in this regard – and is easy to access with the pushchair seat attached (especially in the upright reclined position). There are also straps so the rucksack can be securely attached to the handle, freeing up space within the basket.

It’s simple to fold but does require two hands to do so, and can be folded with the pushchair seat attached in its forward-facing position (the seat can also be parent facing). However, the chassis and pushchair are bulky when folded and in order to fit in the boot of our supermini, they needed to be separated.

Assembly was simple with the instructions required only for specific reference points, most notably on how to fit the hood to the pushchair.

Would you choose this product above all others on the market?

Personally no, but this has more to do with the fact that this is a special edition of an existing pushchair rather than any deal-breaking issues relating to the Wayfarer as a model.

The design is undoubtedly attractive and both parents are unaware of another travel system that mirrors this pushchair’s styling – the fabrics are black with flecks of silver, bronze and gold to mimic the night sky. All of this is enhanced by a polished bronze chassis and wheels. It’s smart and not gender-specific, with perhaps the exception of the pram apron, which features small studs arranged in a splash effect pattern design that mum felt was a bit too ‘bingy’ and feminine.

However, as appealing as the design undoubtedly is, we felt the price (£1045) was on the steep side, even taking into account all the extras, which as we’ve already mentioned many of which both parents really like, in addition to the Genius harness system that’s new to the Constellation. For those parents who prioritise a stand-out design more so than ourselves though, we can completely understand why they would opt for the Wayfarer Constellation over other urban travel systems.

What changes would you make to this product?

The handle has four height positions, but as both parents are around six-foot tall we found ourselves using its second-highest setting. Extended in this position, there was a notable degree of flex that was most apparent when applying downward pressure so the front of the chassis can be lifted to mount a kerb. It resulted in the otherwise smooth-riding Wayfarer jerking when attempting to clear a kerb – a means of eliminating this flex would certainly be appreciated.

Manoeuvrability can also at times feel inconsistent, with the Wayfarer being in most instances easy to steer but on other occasions heavy and difficult steer, with neither parent able to discern the circumstances why. Also, because of the aforementioned flex in the handle, there’s a tendency on sharp corners for the front wheel on the opposite side to the direction being turned to lift off the ground.

Both parents also found removing the over the shoulder harness straps from their lowest setting to reaffix them at a higher position on the pushchair back challenging. We both felt the holes through which the straps need to be fed are too small. The plus side is they feel very secure once they are correctly fitted and unlikely to be unseated should our son lean forward.

Silver Cross Dune review: A compact, stylish, high-end city stroller

Silver Cross released both the Dune and Reef strollers in May 2022, and at first glance you’d think they were twins. They look the same, share the same accessories, and the chassis are indistinguishable from one another. Look closer, however, and the differences reveal themselves: where the Reef’s larger wheels are more suited to life both in and out of the city, the Dune is its urban-focused sibling with smaller wheels that are designed to spin smoothly across pavements and tarmac.

Right from the get go, the Dune is everything you’d expect from a luxury stroller. Despite its relatively small size, it’s a highly capable travel system that can adapt to carry cots, car seats and toddler seats as your child grows. And as all accessories are compatible with both the Dune and the Reef models, there are plenty of options to choose from to suit any family.

What’s more, the eco-friendly design employs recycled materials – according to Silver Cross, 35 plastic bottles were used to create the seat, 24 to make the bassinet and 12 plastic bottles for the first-bed carrycot – so both sustainability and style go hand in hand.

Silver Cross Dune review: What does it do well?

The Dune’s lie-flat seat is newborn-ready straight from the box, adjusting easily and smoothly from a fully flat position to a toddler-friendly upright position. The seat can be mounted in either forward- or rear-facing positions: simply press the buttons either side of the seat simultaneously to release it and flip the seat around. It takes two hands to press the buttons, but the seat is lightweight enough to lift and turn with one hand, clicking easily into place.

The magnetic safety harness is brilliant. You can click the child safely in place (it’s not really even a click; it just sticks together like a magnet and stays put) without worrying about pinching your own or the little one’s fingers, and it feels very secure. To release, you push the buckle’s side buttons together simultaneously – easy for an adult, but too awkward for a child.

The harness adjustment at the back of the seat slides easily up or down to get the best fit for your child. The straps are thinner than some other stroller straps, but their length is easy to adjust and cushioned strap protectors keep baby comfortable and secure.

The stroller’s canopy is large, offering lots of coverage from the elements, and a zip at the rear allows it to extend even further when required. A further pull-out shade at the front of the canopy provides extra protection on sunnier days, and a mesh peep window at the rear is covered by a flap of fabric that easily slides up and down to increase ventilation on those warmer days. The Dune also comes with a sunsail that attaches to the handlebars when you’ve positioned the stroller in rear-facing mode.

There’s also a spacious basket at the bottom of the stroller that’s big enough for an oversized nappy bag and some shopping.

Manoeuvrability with the Dune is a high point. The handlebar is covered with a grippy, luxurious-feeling vegan leatherette and you can adjust the handlebar height up and down with one hand. The smooth-rolling wheels and sprung suspension make it supremely easy to push, and the swivelling front wheels allow it to take tight corners like a dream. The small wheels do get out of their depth on rougher tracks – out-of-towners are better suited to the big-wheeled Silver Cross Reef – but the Dune’s suspension helps to suck up pavement bumps without disturbing your sleeping baby. You can lock the front wheels to face forward if needed – a useful feature on bumpy or off-camber surfaces – and the brake can be toggled swiftly with a dab of the foot pedal.

Collapsing the stroller is mostly a two-handed affair. If you’re using a cot or car seat, it’s necessary to remove those first, but you can leave the lie-flat seat in place regardless of whether it’s forward- or rear-facing. Simply fold the seat down, then press the handlebar adjustment button, slide a lever and fold the frame down. Some bending is required, though, which can prove tricky if you’re juggling a baby and shopping bags, and we did find the button at the back of the seat to be a little stiff.

Once folded, the Dune stands on its four wheels – as long as it’s on flat ground – and the handlebar doesn’t touch the floor, which stops it getting grubby. A small leatherette handle makes it easy to carry the stroller or load it into a car boot, and the compact dimensions – it measures 71cm tall, 61cm wide and 30cm deep when folded – leave plenty of boot space for all your other essentials.

Though you can comfortably use this stroller without any add-ons, there are plenty of optional accessories to choose from. Our favourite add-on is the First Bed Foldable Carrycot (£275). This carrycot can accommodate your baby all day long, especially in those early weeks, and it’s approved for overnight sleeping which is incredibly helpful when you’re away from home.

Unlike the main seat, the carrycot has a super soft interior for the baby’s delicate skin and is particularly roomy, especially for a newborn. There’s a cover that fits on top to keep the baby warm and shielded from the elements, and vents at the rear of the carrycot provide extra airflow for hotter weather, too.

Silver Cross Dune review: How can it be improved?

Silver Cross has pretty much thought of everything when it comes to this nifty little stroller. However, the only consistent downside we could find was that you have to bend all the way down to collapse it, which can be tricky if you’re holding a child in one hand (or if you have a backache from all the carrying you’re inevitably doing). It also might be a little hard to do for anyone with a disability.

And while the seat material is clearly durable, we found that it was a little bit rougher than we’d like – it’s not as soft as the fabrics employed by some other high-end luxury stroller brands. If you’re set on a stroller seat with a soft sherpa or suede-like interior, you’ll either need to look elsewhere, or consider splashing out on Silver Cross’ reversible Seat Liner Air (£45), which features faux fur and breathable bamboo finishes to maximise warmth or breathability depending on the weather.

Silver Cross Dune review: Should you buy it?

Minor quibbles aside, the Dune is a very well-designed pushchair. Everything from its ingenious magnetic buckle system through to its easy adjustability bespeak a product that’s been tried and tested to make parents’ lives easier and keep children comfortable and safe.

Factor in the stylish, understated looks, and the Dune is a delight to use and own. The way it glides serenely as you stroll – and the ease of getting up and down pavements – makes this pricey buggy one of the best we’ve come across in its category.
