St. Francis of Asissi Church (Poblacion Siquijor, Siquijor)

The Church was built way back in 1774 and was the first and only parish in the island for more than 60 years. It’s first construction consists of only a nipa-hut as roof and rubble stones as its walls. Some efforts for renovations were made in order to preserve the grandeur of the church. The bell tower stands separately from it which served as a watchtower against invaders before. The church and the bell tower’s rural charm is perfect  for history lovers.

Centuries Old Balete Tree (Campalanas, Lazi, Siquijor)

Balete Tree is known to be the home of mystical creatures like fairies and elves. The one that stands at Campalanas, Lazi for almost 500 years is considered to be the oldest Banyan tree in the Island. What makes it mystical is the cold spring water that flows from the base of the tree to the natural pool where endemic fishes shoal around. Locals and tourists visit this destination to have a glimpse of the enchanted Balete tree and to experience fish spa. It also offers a wide array of souvenir items.

St. Isidore Church and Convent (Lazi, Siquijor)

The Lazi Convent which is the oldest and biggest of its kind in Asia is located opposite the church. Both structures under went rehabilitation & restoration from the National Heritage Commission of the Philippines lately.

The beach of Salagdoong is idyllic for swimming and for family recreation as well.  However, swimming is not yet allowed for the meantime, awaiting the approval of the Forest Land Agreement for Tourism with DENR.

This make Elena’s products one of the most dominating breads, pastries and delicacies in the island.

  • Siquijor Day Tours

The tiny island of Siquijor is one of the many islands in the Visaya Region, easily accessible from Cebu, Bohol or Dumaguete. Its small size doesn’t project on the large number of attractions waiting for you there. There are plenty of hidden beaches, the most beautiful sets of waterfalls, and also healers and witches as the local folks believe.

Another great benefit of Siquijor’s small size is that you can easily explore the island without spending long hours of traveling. You can circle the whole island in only a few hours. Therefore the tours we offer below are packed with a relatively high number of activities in each. Also, because of it, some of our clients prefer to rent a motorbike and follow our tour itineraries in a “do it yourself” fashion instead. Inquire Now About These Tours Our Siquijor tours include the best available transportation and most professional tour guides. We aim to deliver the best experience of this island. You’ll also notice that some tours include the same spots, like Mt. Bandilaan for example. As some attractions are on the way to several others we might include the same place in different itineraries, as we realize that most people won’t take all the Siquijor tours we offer, but we’d like to give a broader experience still. If you notice that it’s the case with your chosen tours, please notify us and we could cut one of the itineraries a little short, to allow you to spend more time in other locations.

Siquijor Day Tours Quick Facts

  • Prefect for : Nature lovers, families with children
  • Best time to visit : During the rainy season (May-October)
  • Tour packages include : Transportation, guide
  • Starting point : Hotel pickup.
  • Duration : Half day to whole day
  • Things to bring : Swimsuit, towel, money

What to do?

Siquijor offers a lot of activities within the island itself. One of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Philippines, Cambugahay Falls makes an amazing few hours stop. Mt. Bandilaan (632m) is the tallest mountain on the island and offers great views from the lookout point on its peak, after an easy hike. There are many small beaches, perfect for a swim and sunbathing, including two cliff jumps of 7 and 11 meters. If you want to experience some of the local “mysticism”, visiting a bolo-bolo healer, a term for a local witch doctor/shaman that has healing powers and more, is an interesting cultural experience.

Siquijor doesn’t have any island hopping tours, so leave these for other destinations in the Philippines . We do offer one trip outside of Siquijor, and that is a day trip to Apo Island . This tour isn’t always available, so it’s best to coordinate it as early as possible. We offer it only to clients who purchase a full package from us, that include all accommodation, transportation and tours.

Siquijor Island Tour

This tour is one of the two whole day trips we offer in Siquijor Island. It takes you into the island itself, and leaves Siquijor’s beaches out. As it’s a whole day trip, from 9:30am to 4:00pm, we’ll be able to cover all of the best spots of the island. We find this tour the best for you if you’re planning to take only one tour in Siquijor because you lack the time, or want to explore Paliton and Salagdong Beaches on your own, on another day.

We’ll take you to see the Old Enchanted Balete tree, a local ficus that is believed to be 400 years old, and is said to be inhabited by spirits. From there we’ll visit the biggest convent in Asia, St. Isidore Church and Convent in Lazi, before we’ll arrive in the famous Cambugahay Waterfalls where we’ll have lunch and swim. Cambugahay waterfalls are among the most beautiful in the Philippines. We’ll then visit Cantabon Cave, full of stalagmites and stalactites and even an underwater stream, upon returning to your hotel.

An optional stop which we think is highly worthwhile is to a Bolo-bolo Healer, also called locally as herbolario. If the local shaman will be available, and you will want to make the stop (which costs an additional “talent fee”, you’ll undertake a purifying ceremony that supposedly cures you from ailment, jinxes and the evil eye. We will also visit minor spots as listed in the short schedule below:

Inclusions: Best available transportation, driver/guide, entrances and fees. Exclusions:  Tip

Price: from 60 USD per person. (must be 8 persons to book this price - for more info kindly send us a message)

Siquijor Coastal Tour

This is the second whole day tour we offer in Siquijor, and as you could see, it overlaps in some parts with the Siquijor Island Tour. Therefore it will be redundant to combine these two tours, and it’s better to choose one of the whole day tours, with another short tour below instead. The Siquijor Coastal Tour with another short trip to Cantabon Cave will grant you the ultimate Siquijor experience.

The tour starts the same as the tour above, with visits to the Enchanted Balete Tree and St. Isidore Conven, and then a trip to Cambugahay Waterfalls. After Cambugahay we will visit the Traditional Healer if wanted and available, and then we will visit Salagdong Beach, where you could experience the 7 and 11 meters tall cliff jumps, and swim around in this popular beach. Then just before coming back to your hotel, St. Francis of Assisi Church, similarly to the tour above.

Inclusions: Best available transportation, driver/guide, entrances and fees. Exclusions: Lunch, Tip

Price: from 25 USD per person. (must be 8 persons to book this price - for more info kindly send us a message)

Cambugahay Waterfalls Short Trip

This trip is more suitable for people on a short vacation who don’t have much time. Or if you just want to visit Cambugahay Falls without anything else, this is also a great tour for you. As the name of the tour implies, this tour is shorter and starts at 1:30pm, when we’ll pick you up from your hotel, and take you to the Old Enchanted Balete Tree and St. Isidore Church and convent. Then we’ll go to Cambugahay Waterfalls until 4:30pm, when we’ll start to head back to your hotel.

It is possible to leave for this tour earlier, and spend more time in the waterfalls for an additional 10 USD per hour. Please let us know in advance that this is your intent, so we could make sure that you’ll get the most out of this short trip. The time frame of this tour is already the shortest we recommend in order to enjoy Cambugahay Falls, and shortening it isn’t an option.

Price: from 15 USD per person. (must be 8 persons to book this price - for more info kindly send us a message)

Cantabon Cave and Mt. Bandilaan Trip

This is another short trip we offer in Siquijor, and is perfect in combination with the Siquijor Coastal Tour. Combining these two will cover all the best spots in Siquijor, and will take only one and a half days, leaving you enough time to relax and enjoy your resort. We’ll start at 1:00pm from your hotel, and go directly to Cantabon Cave, where we’ll explore its huge chamber and witness its wonderful stalactite and stalagmite formations and the underground water stream.

Be sure to bring proper shoes or hiking sandals, as well as a swimsuit. After we finish the caving activity, we’ll go to Mt. Bandilaan Peak (a short hike is included), enjoy nature and get a great view of Siquijor Island.

How to plan my Siquijor tour package

We think that you should spend about three nights in Siquijor, and take one of our longer tours (either the island or coastal tour). After you decide which longer tour you prefer, you can add a short tour to Cantabon Cave or to one of the many beaches Siquijor has to offer. In our opinion, the Coastal tour combined with the short Cantabon Cave tour is the best combination, but we are aware that you might have different preferences, and therefore offer a wider range of tours you can choose from.

Even though it might seem complicated, Siquijor is a small island, and covering all attractions should be rather easy, even if you have only 2 nights on the island. Feel free to consult with us if you want us to arrange your Siquijor Tour Package by inquiring. Siquijor Island is usually best combined with nearby islands such as Cebu or Bohol , but it can be a part of any vacation to the Philippines.

You could read our guide for planning your vacation in the Philippines , or inquire immediately and let us build a custom itinerary just for you.

SIQUIJOR TRAVEL GUIDE with Sample Itinerary & Budget

SIQUIJOR TRAVEL GUIDE with Sample Itinerary & Budget

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double-check with the concerned establishments for the latest updates.

“It’s safe here,” our tricycle driver shared proudly. “You can leave your luggage in the tricycle. No one’s gonna take it.”

That would have been comforting, except he added, “They’re afraid of the needle .”

And just like that, my friend Grace was overtaken by fear. LOL. By reputation, Siquijor is a land of witchcraft and black magic, something that my companion was awfully aware of. But I have traveled long enough to know that a place’s reputation doesn’t always match reality, a view I have explained thoroughly to my friend to blow her doubts away.

But five minutes into this trip, our trike driver filled her mind with images of mysticism. “It’s real,” he said. “I can even take you to a village here so you could meet one.” He was probably referring to the faith healers.

Any other day, I would have said yes as it is something that has always tickled my curiosity, but Grace was quick to steer the conversation away from the topic. “Let’s stick to the beaches!”

Ah beaches. Yes, like many other remote corners of the Philippines, Siquijor too is bursting with something equally magical — natural beauty. This travel guide will allow you to explore beachy side of the province, not much the witchy side. (Sorry if that’s what you’re after. LOL.) And to be honest, that’s probably the only sorcery you’re gonna need.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

UNDERSTANDING SIQUIJOR

When the Spaniards first set foot in the island, they were captivated by fireflies swarming around molave trees, hence the nickname “Isla del Fuego” (Island of Fire). As one of the first provinces reached by the clutches of Spain, Siquijor has Roman Catholicism deeply rooted in their history and culture. In fact, most of the island’s manmade attractions are religious structures.

siquijor coastal tour

In terms of land area and population, Siquijor is the third smallest province in the country. It’s so small, you can see most of its key tourist spots in one day or two, although we urge you to stay longer.

  • Language : Cebuano. English is widely understood.
  • Currency : Philippine peso (PhP). PhP100 = USD2, EUR 1.65, KRW 22000, JPY218
  • Mode of payment : Cash. There are a few ATMs in the island so if you’re coming from Dumaguete or Cebu, it would be more convenient to withdraw money before your visit.

WHERE TO STAY IN SIQUIJOR

siquijor coastal tour

If you’re strapped for cash, you’ll find several accommodations for less than P1000 a night, with some going as low as P300, especially at town centers and port area. However, note that many of them are basic fan rooms with barely any amenities.

But if you want more comfort, you can stay at a guest house. If you have more funds, staying at a beach-front resort would be ideal. The following are the top options on Agoda, ranked by reviews. Here are the top rated properties on Agoda.

HOW TO GET TO SIQUIJOR

Siquijor doesn’t have its own airport, but it is easily accessible from Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental. Access from ferry is also possible but it takes hours.

siquijor coastal tour

MANILA TO SIQUIJOR

If you’re coming from Manila, you have to fly to Dumaguete or Cebu first. Between the two, Dumaguete is the faster, cheaper, and easier option.

  • Fly to Dumaguete City . Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air carry passengers from Manila to Dumaguete in about 1.5 hours. You can look for flights at Traveloka.com .
  • Take a tricycle to Dumaguete Sea Port (near the boulevard). Travel time: 15-30 minutes. Fare: P120-150.
  • Buy a ticket and board a ferry to Siquijor . Travel time: 1 hour. Fare: P136 to P360, depending on the destination port, class, and liner. Several shipping lines ply this route so you’re sure to find one every 2 hours. Options are fewer on Saturdays, though. You also have to pay the terminal fee, P25.

Note : The island has two main sea ports, though: one in Siquijor (the town) and the other in Larena. Choose the one near your resort or hotel.

CEBU TO SIQUIJOR

If you’re in Cebu or you want to visit Siquijor as part of your extended Cebu trip, here’s how to get there.

  • Make your way to Cebu South Terminal . If you’re coming from Mactan airport, board the myBus outside the domestic terminal to SM City. There’s a bus leaving the Mactan Airport every 30 minutes from 7am-11am, and every 20 minutes from 11am-9:30pm. Fare: P25. Then take a cab to the South Bus Terminal. Outside these hours, you may take a cab, Uber or Grab straight to the bus terminal. Fare is between P230-P300, depending on traffic.
  • Hop into the bus bound for Liloan (in Santander Municipality). Travel time: 4-5 hours. Fare: P162 (ordinary), P200 (air-conditioned).
  • Board the ferry bound for Sibulan (in Negros Oriental). Travel time: 20-25 minutes. Fare: P50 (ticket) + P10 Terminal Fee + P2 Municipal Fee.
  • At Sibulan Port, ride a jeepney or pedicab to Dumaguete City . Jeepney fare is P12. Pedicab is P10 per person.
  • Once in Dumaguete City, take a tricycle to Dumaguete Port . Fare: P10.

HOW TO GET AROUND SIQUIJOR

Upon disembarking at either Siquijor or Larena Port, you will be greeted by tricycle and multi-cab drivers, enticing you to get their services. These are legit. (At least most of them are.) Not only can they take you to your resort, they can also tour you around.

Transportation options are very limited in the island. If you can’t drive a motorcycle, you have two main choices:

  • Tricycle Tour : P1000-P1200 per tricycle. Up to 3 pax.
  • Multi-cab Tour : P1800 per vehicle. Can accommodate 15+ pax.

According to our trike driver, the following are also available, although we never really saw any rental places.

  • Van Tour : P2500 per vehicle
  • Motorcycle rental : P350 per vehicle

In our case, we began our tour right away and decided to just drop our luggage at the reception of our resort along the way. This way, we get to maximize our day.

The itinerary isn’t fixed. Although your guide/driver will have their recommendations, you also get to choose where you want to go. For example, Kagusuan Beach isn’t part of the usual tricycle route but our driver agreed to take us there at no extra cost.

If you enjoyed your first day tour, hire your guide-driver for your second day so he could pick you up at the resort.

PLACES TO VISIT IN SIQUIJOR

There are two main tours in Siquijor: Coastal Tour and Mountain Tour. The Coastal Tour will show you around the island, making stops at beaches and churches among others. The Mountain Tour will take you deeper inland to Cantabon Cave and Bandilaan Park.

To maximize your time, choose your stops well. Siquijor has a lot of wonderful spots to offer, but to be honest, there are some that can be a bit underwhelming. For example, the Old Balete Tree and Capilay Spring Park can feel like tourist traps at first glance and they pale in comparison to Aurora’s greater balete tree and Camiguin’s hot springs respectively. But here’s the thing: they are legit attractions among locals , who were the original patrons. Context. But feel free to skip them if you feel like you’re not into them. This way, you can have more time for other sites.

Coastal Tour (aka Land Tour)

siquijor coastal tour

  • Salagdoong Beach . Perhaps the most popular beach on the island. Great for cliff-jumping. Entrance fee: P30. Parking Fee: P40.
  • Kagusuan Beach . A short stretch of sand concealed in between rocks.
  • Cambugahay Falls . A small, three-tiered waterfall. Perfect for a quick freshwater dip and a mandatory Tarzan rope swing (jk, it’s not mandatory). Entrance Fee: P10. Unli-Swing: P20. Parking Fee: P20.
  • Lazi Church and Convent . More formally known as San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, a Baroque structure which was declared a National Cultural Treasure.
  • Siquijor Church . Aka St Francis de Assisi Church. Standing right next to the port.
  • Capilay Spring Park
  • Enchanted Balete Tree. Entrance fee: P10.
  • Paliton Beach
  • Guiwanon Spring Park

Mountain Tour

siquijor coastal tour

  • Cantabon Cave . Great for spelunking newbies. It’s not that challenging, but there are curious rock formations and refreshing pools inside. This was the highlight of our stay in Siquijor! Tour Fee: P500 for 3 pax, including guide fee and rental of helmet and flash lights.
  • Mt. Bandilaan Park . Perched atop a hill, offering a walking trail and a view of the province and nearby islands.

3 DAY SIQUIJOR ITINERARY

AMAZING 3 DAY SIQUIJOR ITINERARY

Siquijor is a quaint and laid back island that is located just off the southern tip of Cebu . For many people who come and visit the Philippines , Siquijor is often their favourite island. It has some beautiful beaches, vivid blue waterfalls and great island vibes. Our Siquijor itinerary was designed for a 3-day stay here, which we found to be the perfect amount of time.

3 days will allow you to see all of the best places to visit in Siquijor, without having to rush through everything. If you wanted to take longer here and relax more, you could definitely visit less of Siquijor’s attractions each day and slow your trip down, or just enjoy the beaches and relax.

However long you spend exploring this island you are sure to fall in love with it. Whether you like beaches, waterfalls, cliff jumping or just relaxing by the pool, Siquijor has got it all.

How to Get to Siquijor from Cebu

The ferry from South Cebu to Siquijor leaves once a day at 10am from Liloan Port. From Moalboal you can catch the bus to Bato from the town centre which costs 100 PHP ($2 USD) per person and takes 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Bato you will need to take a motorbike transfer to Liloan Port which should cost 50 PHP ($1 USD) per person and takes 5 – 10 minutes.

The direct ferry to Siquijor costs 200 PHP ($4 USD) per person and takes 3 hours. You will arrive in Larena which is in the north of the island. The main area where you should stay is located in San Juan on the south coast of the island. From Larena, you can get a tricycle transfer to San Juan or you can rent a scooter for the entirety of your trip.

Scooter rental cost us 250 PHP ($5 USD) per day. It is only a 30-minute ride to San Juan, although bear in mind you will have to carry all of your bags on your back while you ride. This is what we did, and while it wasn’t the most comfortable journey, it was an easy and effective way of getting there and we would have rented a scooter for the duration of our stay anyway.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The only ATM’s that work with foreign bank cards are located in the north of the island. There is one ATM in San Juan but it only accepts foreign cards.
  • Scooter rentals are easily available and should cost around 250 PHP ($5 USD) per day.
  • You can also get around the island via jeepneys, vans, tricycles and habal habals.
  • WIFI and phone reception are both patchy and when they do work, the connection is quite poor. It was probably one of the worst places for staying connected, but it was nice to unplug for a few days.

Where to Stay in Siquijor

It is important to note when planning where to stay in Siquijor that San Juan, on the south coast of the island, is the most popular place for tourists to stay. While there are places to stay elsewhere on the island this is where you will find the most choice for accommodation and you will also be close to plenty of good restaurants.

Budget: Isla De Paz Beach Resort – Stay right on the beach for a budget. You’ll get a spacious air conditioned room, large garden and your own private beach to relax on all for just a few dollars per night.

Mid-range: Bermuda Triangle Bungalows – One of the coolest places to stay in San Juan is at Bermuda. These modern triangular bungalows are awesome and are situated in amongst the palm trees just footsteps from the beach.

Luxury: White Villas Resort – If you are looking for a something a little more deluxe in Siquijor, then this is the spot for you. In between visiting the best Siquijor tourist spots you can spend your time relaxing by the pool.

Getting Around the Island

The island is relatively small and you could drive the coastal road around the entire island in just a few hours. To gain the most freedom and have the ability to explore everywhere, we always recommend renting a scooter. As we mentioned above, we chose to rent a scooter as soon as we got off the ferry and we drove ourselves down to the south coast of the island.

This was an uncomfortable journey with all our stuff. If you choose to take a van transfer or tricycle to San Juan, you should have no problem renting a scooter from your accommodation. Prices seemed to be around the same, at approximately 250 PHP ($5 USD) per day.

Not everyone feels confident riding a scooter, so you also have the option of taking tricycles to the different Siquijor tourist spots. This will be slightly more expensive than renting a scooter, but definitely won’t break the bank, especially if you are splitting the cost with friends.

If you want to take an organised tour of the island there is a cool day tour that visits a few of the top Siquijor attractions. You can check rates and availability for this tour here .

Best Time to Visit Siquijor Island

January to May tend to be the most pleasant months, with cooler weather and are considered ‘peak season’ here, although it never really gets too busy which is nice. The temperature varies very little across the year however, there is increased rainfalls from July to October.

Siquijor Itinerary

When planning your Siquijor itinerary we recommend staying for 3 days on Siquijor island. This will give you a chance to visit all of the top Siquijor attractions without rushing any of them. If you spent any less than three days here, then it would probably be too rushed. On the other hand, you could easily spend more time here and just space out all of the activities and spend more time relaxing on the beach.

Paliton Beach

  • Salagdoong Beach and Cliff Jumping

Cambugahay Falls

Century old balete tree, capilay spring park, lugnason falls, tubod marine sanctuary, explore the island by scooter.

Cambugahay Falls

Things to do in Siquijor

The most popular beach on the island is Paliton Beach. From San Juan, where most of the accommodation is located, it is less than a ten-minute drive. If you have rented a scooter it is the perfect place to soak up the sun during the day and to watch the sun go down in the evening with some friends.

The bay is quite small and the white sandy beach is lined with palm trees and has crystal clear blue water lapping the shores. The last few hundred metres of road to get here are quite rough, but there is a great reward at the end of the road.

It’s always good to have a nice beach close by that you can relax at. We ended up coming to this beach several times during our trip here as it was so handy to get to. Another reason it is so popular is that you can snorkel right from the beach and see some tropical fish and maybe even a turtle or two.

Paliton Beach on Siquijor Island

Salagdoong Beach and Cliff Jump

On the eastern side of the island you will find what we personally think is the best beach in Siquijor. The drive here will take just under 50 minutes and it is a very pretty drive. You can drive along wither the north or south coast to get here. Entrance fee for Salagdoong Beach is 30 PHP per person and it cost us 20 PHP to park the scooter.

Once you arrive you will have the choice of two beaches which are split by a rocky headland. They are both amazing beaches and there were only a few people here the day that we visited.

Salagdoong Beach, Siquijor itinerary

While the beaches are stunning, the real reason to visit Salagdoong Beach is for the cliff jumping. The giant, rocky headland that splits the two beaches has several diving boards and a slide which allows you to jump and flip into the aqua blue water below. The water here was easily the nicest water anywhere on the island.

The two diving boards here are about 8 and 10 metres tall, which is fairly high for most people. It almost seems less intimidating when you are jumping into amazing blue water though, especially when you can see all the way to the bottom. We had an absolute blast leaping from the colourful concrete diving boards and getting the adrenaline pumping. It’s one of our favourite things to do while travelling and this was as good a place as any to go cliff jumping.

Unfortunately, when we visited the slide was closed so we didn’t get to do that, but hopefully you will have better luck during your visit. You can spend the entire day here as they have a restaurant right by the beach where you can grab some lunch or just enjoy a drink in the afternoon sun. There are also floating pontoons you can rent which have hammocks suspended in the shade which looked like an epic spot to spend a few hours.

Cliff jumping at Salagdoong Beach

When we planned our Siquijor itinerary this was the number one thing that we wanted to do and it is probably the best thing to do in Siquijor. Having just spent a few days exploring the waterfalls around Cebu island we had become obsessed with exploring these unique blue waterfalls that flow through the jungle.

We are always trying to beat the crowds when we visit these places so we arrived at 7am in the morning just as the falls were opening and we were the first people here. The owners of our homestay told us that it gets busy early here and that it can be busy by 8am.

The entrance fee when we visited was just 10 PHP per person however we did have to pay for each activity when we were at the falls themselves. We climbed down a couple of hundred stairs until we reached the first waterfall. It is a truly spectacular place and it was epic to watch the milky blue water cascading over the rocks into the pool below.

There are several different levels of waterfalls here and three different areas you can swim in. Each of the different levels has different rafts to float on, rope swings and small cliff jumps. We spent a couple of hours exploring the different levels and swinging into the blue water.  It is such an epic spot and probably the best of the Siquijor tourist spots.

Check out our full guide for Cambugahay Falls!

Cambugahay Falls in Siquijor

The Century Old Balete Tree is a really unique old tree that is growing just a few metres from the side of the road. You can see the tree from the road, but you will probably want to pay the 10 PHP entrance fee to actually go right into the area the tree is growing. You can dip your feet in the water in front of the tree and have the fish nibble at your feet. You don’t need long to see this spot, but it is a cool place to stop in at and check out.

Century Old Balete Tree, one of the top Siquijor attractions

Once you have swam in the different waterfalls and beaches you can check out the swimming hole in Capilay Spring Park. This park is in the middle of San Juan and you will drive or walk passed it every day you stay down here. It is a very popular spot with locals who come here to cool down in the heat of the day.

It’s cool to have a swimming spot right in the middle of the town with a nice grassy area surrounding it where you can hang out for a few hours. If you have no swimming pool at your accommodation you can simply walk to Capilay Spring Park to jump in the water and cool off. As it is a public park there is no entrance fee and you can visit at any time.

The second epic series of waterfalls on Siquijor island is Lugnason Falls. Much like Cambugahay Falls, there is Gatorade blue water falling from the rocks into a liquid blue pool below. It is an epic spot for cliff jumping and there are also a couple of rope swings. Entrance to Lugnason Falls is free.

Unfortunately, we visited in the dry season so the main falls were barely flowing and the pool was almost empty. We were quite disappointed after having seen some epic photos of the falls. Luckily, there is also some man made concrete pools if you venture further down the path from the falls. These pools are fed by natural spring water and offer a great spot to cool down.

Lugnason Falls in the Philippines

One of the best places in Siquijor to snorkel and see marine life is at Tubod Marine Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located just a few metres out from Tubod Beach and you will see a whole host of tropical fish here. Entrance to the beach is free but it costs 20 PHP to swim here and 50 PHP to snorkel here.

As well as having great marine life, the beach here is also really nice. You could easily spend a few hours relaxing on the beach in between snorkel sessions. Coco Grove Beach Resort lines Tubod Beach and is super fancy. It is a beautiful spot and although we couldn’t stay here because it was way out of our budget, we did come here for a nice dinner one night. Their restaurant is right by the beach and the prices are actually quite reasonable.

Tubod Marine Sanctuary at Tubod Beach

This is always one of our top suggestions when visiting a new place as you have the chance to create your own adventures. Riding around the island on a scooter allows you the freedom to go wherever you like and hopefully you will stumble upon some really cool hidden spots. The coast road around the island is awesome and very scenic to cruise along.

Where to Eat in Siquijor

Twenty4 Restaurant and Burger Bar – Our favourite restaurant in Siquijor. It is just a few minutes’ drive from Cambugahay Falls, making it the perfect lunch spot after your visit here. They offer delicious burgers, paninis and waffles which were all great value for money as well.

Sunset Restaurant – Located at Coco Grove Beach Resort, it is a little on the expensive side (for the fellow backpackers) but the food was good and the location is fantastic. Meals start at around 400 PHP ($8 USD).

Baja Bar – A really cool spot to have dinner and they have live music from 7pm each night. They offer a variety of Asian and Western dishes.

Monkey Business – This is a really cool and modern place to grab some food. It also wasn’t the cheapest, but the food was good and the place itself is really cool. Meals cost around 300 PHP ($6 USD).

Tomato and Basil – Pasta, hummus, pita and other Mediterranean style meals. Meals cost around 200 – 300 PHP ($4 – $6 USD)

Final Thoughts

Although it is a bit of a mission to reach Siquijor, the reward at the end of it all is quite special. Stunning waterfalls, cliff jumping and beautiful beaches all make for an epic Siquijor itinerary. The effort it takes to get here also means the island is still relatively quiet. You will definitely see other tourists, but nowhere ever felt packed or overcrowded.

There are plenty of cool places to visit in Siquijor and you’ll enjoy the overall laidback atmosphere while exploring this little island.

Siquijor Itinerary: What to do in 3 days or less

' src=

  • March 1, 2022

On the way to Guiwanon Spring Park , Ms. Myla Bromo-Abellana, Negros Oriental Tourism Senior Operations Officer, shows a photo of her flying on a broomstick. She assures everyone in the van we’ll all learn to fly before the end of our Siquijor trip.

Well, that’s a way to welcome tourists to the mystical island of fire! It kind of set the mood (and an illusory expectation too).

siquijor coastal tour

The country’s third-smallest province both in terms of land area and population, Siquijor, has long been a stereotyped destination in Central Visayas. To most Filipinos, it’s a known place for witchcraft, love spells, folk healing rituals—some locally called  bolo-bolo , tuob,   pausok, etc. . With its peculiar healers and haunting stories apt for Halloween, you might think why a lot of people come to visit?

Unlike typical island destinations that rely mostly on their beaches for tourist influx, Siquijor banks on its healers equally as it does on its natural attractions. The peak season of visit for locals and foreigners who seek to get “healed” is on the Holy Week.

    View this post on Instagram I love my job because I get to write. But today I must say I love it even more. . . . . . . . . . #seaplane #siquijor #travels #likesforlikes #ilovemyjob #philippines #cessna A post shared by Erica Poyauan (@thegirlwiththemujihat) on May 27, 2018 at 11:50pm PDT

I remember my first time visiting Siquijor. I flew from Dumaguete via Cessna aircraft. Thanks to the owner of Bravo Resorts (and my previous employer), I only had a day to get around. Not that I’m being sarcastic. I was lucky to check out some accommodations, but you can imagine how it is when you fly to a stunning spot (or any place) for strict business. I didn’t have the chance to go to some “enchanted waterfalls”. I didn’t get to meet a bolo-bolo healer or learn to fly a broomstick… Needless to say, I regretted not staying longer.

Good thing I got invited by the Philippine Department of Tourism – Office of Public Affairs and Advocacy for a familiarization tour!

This second time to visit Siquijor, my mother advised me to not eat while on the island. Clearly, she’s heard some stories. But seriously? Not eat? For three days?

Anyway, I ate. A lot! And I did more than just eating! This recent fam trip allowed me to see the most incredible of Siquijor. So I am writing this post to address your most common questions: What to do in Siquijor? What to see in Siquijor? Where to stay in Siquijor? Which tour to book in Siquijor?

Siquijor’s attractions remind me of Nusa Penida , only with better roads. The convenience of getting around the island is amongst what the locals are proud of. No traffic jam, roads are paved (well 90 per cent), and the transportation cost is dirt cheap. The temperature on the island, albeit high, is tolerable even for the hypertensive. By that, I mean ideal for staying out long under the sun or hiking more than a hundred steps to reach a waterfall destination.

How to get to Siquijor

Siquijor has one small airport with few scheduled commercial flights; the airport is located about 5 km west of Siquijor town. This is the one I took on my first visit. Air Juan now has flights from Siquijor airport to/from Cebu.

Currently, tourists from Manila or outside the Philippines can get to the island through Sibulan Airport in Dumaguete. From the Port of Dumaguete, visitors can take a short ferry ride to the Port of Siquijor.

From either Cebu or Dumaguete, one can reach Siquijor by ferry.

There are frequent passenger ferries from Cebu City (Cebu Island), Dumaguete (Negros Island), Tagbilaran (Bohol) and Plaridal (Mindanao):

  • There are many ferries daily from Dumaguete to 1 Siquijor town port. Fast ferries cost PHP180 and are operated by “Delta shipping lines” and “GL shipping lines”.
  • There is also a slow car ferry that costs PHP100 and takes 2 hours, operated by “Montenegro shipping lines”.
  • Fast ferry from Cebu City run by ‘Oceanjet’ takes 5 hours to reach Siquijor town , it makes interim stops in Dumaguete and Tagbilaran. Price from Cebu – PHP1300, from Tagbilaran – PHP 900.
  • Slow ferries from Plaridal and Tagbilaran dock at 2 Larena port, both operated by “Lite Shipping lines”. Ferry from Tagbilaran costs PHP 235, takes 3 hours, leaves Tagbilaran on M W Sa at 8PM. in the opposite direction leaving Larena on Tu Th Su at 7PM (2016).
  • There is a direct ferry from Larena port to Liloan port in Santander at the southern tip of Cebu Island twice a day, costing PHP 200. From Liloan port there are many buses going to Cebu City and some along the island’s west coast to Moalboal.

Via Pump Boat from Oslob, South Cebu or Sumilon Island

You can hire a pump boat from Cebu to Siquijor. Travel time is about 1.5 hours

Via seaplane

Siquijor is also accessible by small planes. Travel time from Dumaguete is about 40 minutes.

We took a ferry from Dumaguete Port

You can take several ferries bound for Siquijor. Ocean Jet and Montenegro are the ones I have tried to take. One way fare for fast craft (like OCEAN JET) costs PHP 250, transit time is about 40-50 minutes. RORO Ferry is slower, about 1.5 hours and one-way fare costs PHP 120.

Last trip for ferry/ fast crafts: 6 pm

If you want to have a relatively more comfortable ferry ride, book a business class seat.

SIQUIJOR TOURIST SPOTS – OVERVIEW

Let’s start this guide with all the essentials you should know about Siquijor, such as the island’s location, getting there, and more.

WHERE IS SIQUIJOR ISLAND?

Siquijor Island is located in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines.

It’s very close to the neighboring islands of Cebu, Bohol, and Dumaguete which can be easily reached by plane or ferry.

HOW TO GET TO SIQUIJOR?

There are two ways to get here, one is by plane and the other by ferry.

There are weekly flights to Siquijor connecting domestic travelers coming from Manila, Cebu, and Dumaguete.

Dumaguete to Siquijor ferry

One of the most common routes is the ferry from Dumaguete to Siquijor which takes approximately 1.5 hours and the cost is around 500-600 pesos depending on the star rating of the ferry. There is also an additional 20 pesos terminal fee.

Daily ferries are departing from Dumaguete Port in Negros Oriental and arriving at Larena Port in Siquijor.

Cebu to Siquijor ferry

If you happen to be in the very south of Cebu and heading to Siquijor from here, there is only one ferry departure per day leaving from Liloan Port in Cebu at 10 am, bound for Larena Port in Siquijor. The ferry from Cebu to Siquijor takes approximately 1-2 hours and the cost is around 200 pesos.

You can purchase your tickets at the Liloan Port at least one hour before departure.

Bohol to Siquijor ferry

The ferry from Bohol to Siquijor is another common route for travelers and this is the exact route that I took. The cost for this journey is around 900 pesos plus an additional 20 pesos terminal fee.

Daily ferries are departing from Tagbilaran Port in Bohol around 10 am and it takes approximately 2 hours to reach Larena Port in Siquijor.

How to get around the tourist spots in siquijor.

There are a couple of options for getting around the island and enjoyin g Siquijor what to do, and they are by scooter, habal habal, tricycle, or Jeepney.

You can rent a scooter for as little as 250 pesos per day and make your own way around the island at your own pace.

When you arrive on the island by ferry, you’ll find that there are half a dozen scooter rental stores located at the Larena ferry terminal which is super convenient. You can pick up a set of wheels for the time you plan to spend on the island.

If you are not confident driving a scooter, the other option is to hail down a Jeepney, tricycle, or habal habal (motorbike taxi) along the main road in Larena and get a ride to San Juan, the main tourist hub on the island.

The cost depends on how good your bartering skills are, though for a 40-minute drive from Larena to San Juan in a Jeepney should be around 100 pesos, in a tricycle 500 pesos, and habal-habal 350 pesos.

BEST TIME TO VISIT SIQUIJOR?

The best time to visit Siquijor, weather-wise, is between April and July when temperatures are hot and there is barely any rainfall. This is also high season, so expect to see many tourists during these months.

I recommend visiting the tourist spots in Siquijor on the shoulder months of the high season between November and March which sees a bit of rainfall but usually only lasts for a couple of hours and the rest of the day is sunny.

Try to avoid the typhoon season which is between August and October.

15 BEST TOURIST SPOTS IN SIQUIJOR

Now that you’ve got all the information on how to get here, where to stay, the best time to visit, and all the logistics, let’s get to the fun stuff!

So without further ado, here is the ultimate guide to the 15 Best Siquijor Tourist Spots!

PALITON BEACH

The first thing that should be on the top of your list of things to do is to hit the beach! Paliton Beach is rated as one of the best beaches in Siquijor for its glistening white sands and palm tree-fringed shoreline.

This is one tourist spot in Siquijor you do not want to miss!

Paliton Beach is located in the main tourist area of San Juan. Most accommodations are dotted along the main road in San Juan so no doubt Paliton Beach will be within walking distance from your hotel.

Paliton Beach faces west making it the perfect spot to watch the sunset on the sand with your mates!

There are a few oceanside cafes and beach bars dotted along Paliton Beach serving up cold brews and delicious meals. Most usually have happy hour between 4 pm and 6 pm, so make sure to get there around this time if you want to score some cheap drinks.

If you visit Paliton Beach during the day it’s just as good. You can find several tree swings tied to bent palms that you can have a turn on and swing out over the water’s edge!

Apart from that, there isn’t a whole lot more to do on Paliton Beach other than going swimming in the ocean, laying in a hammock underneath the coconut palms, or reading a book by the beach.

Paliton Beach really is the best beach on the island and I highly recommend adding this epic spot to your itinerary.

BEST TOUR TO SIQUIJOR

Siquijor Island Tours and Packages

The best way to visit is to join a Tour To Siquijor From Dumaguete !

It includes accommodation for 2 nights, breakfast, hotel transfers, and a fun guide to spend the trip with!

CAMBUGAHAY FALLS

Cambugahay Falls is arguably the best waterfall on the island! Cambugahay Falls is most famous for its tiered levels and freshwater cascades that are surrounded by lush rainforest which is why it’s one of the most popular tourist spots in Siquijor!

Cambugahay Falls is located in Lazi which is approximately a 30-minute drive from San Juan to reach the falls and the entrance fee is 20 pesos. You may also have to pay a donation fee for parking.

From the jump-off point, it takes around 5 minutes to walk down a set of concrete steps to reach the first level of Cambugahay Falls. This epic location features a large natural swimming hole and some man-made structures including rope swings, bamboo rafts, and a wide set of falls.

Unfortunately, when I visited Cambugahay Falls the water was brown, and not that inviting due to heavy rains the night before. I was a little disappointed when I didn’t get to experience the true beauty of these falls, but hey, that’s just Mother Nature.

Besides the bottom swimming hole, there are a few more levels of Cambugahay Falls to explore.

Follow the trail upstream and across the bamboo bridges where you will find more freshwater swimming holes, flowing rock pools, and several cliff jumping spots.

SALAGDOONG BEACH & CLIFF JUMP

Wondering what to do in Siquijor? Salagdoong Beach is hands down one of the best beaches on the island which is most popular for snorkeling around the colorful reefs, relaxing on the secluded beaches, and epic cliff jumping!

I highly recommend adding Salagdoong Beach to your list of best things to do in Siquijor!

Salagdoong Beach is attached to Salagdoong Beach Resort on the far east corner of the island in the town of Maria.

From San Juan, it’s approximately a 50-minute drive to reach Salagdoong Beach and the entrance fee is 50 pesos per person plus an additional 20 pesos for parking.

Salagdoong Beach boasts two beautiful coves lined with coconut palms and white sand shorelines. Just off the shore is a colorful reef that is great for snorkeling and swimming.

I would have to say the slippery slide and cliff jumping at Salagdoong Beach is the main attraction and one for thrill-seekers! Make sure you visit during high tide to do these activities.

There are two diving boards here, one is around 5 meters and the other is 10 meters. Jumping from the top of the cliff into the turquoise waters below is one of the most adrenaline-fuelled activities to do during your visit.

CENTURY-OLD BALETE TREE

The century-old Balete Tree is one of the most visited tourist spots on the island and it’s easy to see why!

This Siquijor tourist spot is located in Lazi on the south coast of Siquijor Island Philippines. From San Juan, it’s approximately a 20-minute drive and the entrance fee is only 10 pesos.

The 400-year-old Enchanted Balete Tree has a very mystical and spiritual background. It’s a place that local shamans use for sacred rituals. However, I didn’t see any witchcraft when I visited.

At the base of the Century Old Balete Tree is a small freshwater pond filled with fish that will nibble the dead skin off the soles of your feet if you dip them in.

Enjoy your fish foot spa while marveling at the thick canopy and huge vines that hang from the Old Enchanted Balete Tree.

Next to the Century Old Tree is a two-story restaurant where you can grab a meal with drinks and also a souvenir store selling all sorts of gifts. All in all, it’s one of the best places where to go in Siquijor!

LUGNASON FALLS

Lugnason Falls, also known as Zodiac Falls, is up there with one of the  top waterfalls in Siquijor that I highly recommend adding to your itinerary!

Lugnason Falls is located in the main tourist area of San Juan, From Paliton Beach, it’s approximately a 15-minute drive inland from the coast. The entrance is free though you may be asked to pay a small parking fee of 10 pesos.

From the jump-off point, it takes around 15 minutes to walk along a dirt trail through the forest to reach Lugnason Falls.

Lugnason Falls features a 5-meter waterfall and a large spring filled with blue Gatorade-colored water. It’s an adventurer’s playground and reminded me of the blue-ass water that I found at Kawasan Falls in Cebu .

Lugnason Falls is a great spot to hang out and go swimming under the falls to cool off. For thrill-seekers, jumping from the top of the falls into the catch basin below is a lot of fun too!

Don’t end the adventure here as there are more unique spots to be found in the same valley as Lugnason Falls. Follow the jungle trail downstream where you will find man-made aqua ducts and an epic cold spring perfect for swimming!

Can you think of better things to do Siquijor?!

The BEST Hotel in Siquijor

Need a place to stay? Aloha Seaside Resort is conveniently located in Siquijor.

Whether you’re here to explore around or relax in comfort, Aloha Seaside Resort is an excellent option!

VISIT THE LAZI CHURCH

Lazi Church, also known as San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, is the island’s oldest, largest, and most significant Roman Catholic Church.

San Isidro Labrador Parish Church is located in Lazi on the island’s south coast. From San Juan, it’s approximately a 20-minute drive

The construction of Lazi Church was completed in 1884 and was built mainly with stone and hardwood. The bell tower attached to one side of the church was built one year later, the most dominant feature on the outside.

Next to the church, you can also find a silent convent that acts as a museum that holds many old artifacts and antiques. The entrance fee at the museum is around 20 pesos.

Lazi Church also plays home to large masses and it’s possible to take a tour inside of this century-old church with a priest.

QUISOL MOUNTAIN VIEW

Quisol Mountain View boasts one of the best panoramic viewpoints which overlooks the island and its pristine coastlines! This epic viewpoint is an off-the-beaten-path adventure that is easy to find and far away from the crowds that you will find at other Siquijor tourist spots.

Quisol Mountain View is located at the top of the hill between Lazi and Larena. It is approximately a 40-minute drive from San Juan to Quisol Mountain View.

Here is the exact location on Google Maps.

There is no official parking lot or tourist desk at this location, so you will have to park your scooter on the side of the road and find the entry point which isn’t too hard to find.

You will see a large sign with the words ‘Quisol Mountain View’ written on it and make-shift stairs cut into the land leading up to the viewpoint. See the image below for reference.

It takes around 5 minutes to walk to the top of the mountain and you’ll be rewarded with extensive views of the island.

Unfortunately, it was a bit cloudy on the day I visited, but on a nice clear day, you will be able to see the neighboring islands of Cebu, Negros, and Bohol.

Get off the typical tourist trail and add the Quisol Mountain View to your list of things to do in Siquijor!

LAGAAN FALLS

Lagaan Falls is one of the best waterfalls on the island and a must-visit. Swimming holes, rope swings, rock jumps, and small caves are just some of the things you can expect to find at this epic Siquijor tourist spot!

Lagaan Falls is located in Lazi on the south coast of the island. From the main tourist area of San Juan, it’s approximately a 30-minute drive to reach Lagaan Falls.

The Lagaan Falls entrance fee is 50 pesos and parking is free. At the entrance, local guides will offer to take you down to the falls but this is not necessary as the trail is clearly marked.

However, I visited these falls on my own and decided to take a guide for good company and tipped him 100 pesos at the end.

It takes around 15 minutes to walk along a dirt trail underneath a dense rainforest canopy to reach t he first level of this waterfall.

Some of the features you will find here are a large swimming hole, rope swings, small caves, rock jumps, and a wide set of falls.

Don’t forget to follow the jungle trail upstream where you will find small freshwater rock pools and natural jacuzzis. You could easily spend a few hours here jumping from pool to pool, swinging from the tree swings, and not getting bored.

The lush jungle surrounding Lagaan Falls makes this place so tranquil, and I highly recommend adding this spot to your list of things to see in Siquijor.

MAN-MADE FOREST SIQUIJOR

The Man-Made Forest is similar to the Bilar Man-Made Forest in Bohol , though on a smaller scale. A visit to this tourist spot is worthy of a quick stop for a photo during your adventures around the island.

The man-made forest can be found in Maria on the southeastern corner of the island. From San Juan, it is approximately a 45-minute drive.

This enchanting stretch of road is around 2 km long and lined with beautiful mahogany trees between the towns of Minalulan and Liloan.

When you enter this parallel tunnel of trees, you’ll feel like you’ve just entered another realm. You will also notice the temperature drop drastically as you drive through the man-made forest because the canopy above almost completely cuts out the sun.

I recommend stopping by the man-made forest on your way to Salagdoong Beach, another of the places to visit in Siquijor.

man made forest siquijor

TALISAY BEACH

Talisay Beach is not as crowded and popular as Paliton Beach, which is why you should definitely find the time to visit this underrated destination.

Talisay Beach can be found between Lazi and Maria, which is also in the same direction as Salagdoong Beach.

There is no official entry point for Talisay Beach, you can park your scooter on the side of the road and follow one of the dirt trails down to the shoreline.

MUST READ: BEST TRAVEL ACCESSORIES FOR ANY TRIP

Emerging out of the jungle trail, you’ll step foot onto a white sand and coral cove that is stunning, to say the least.

Talisay Beach is best visited on high tide when the water comes right up to the palm-fringed shoreline, making it easier to go for a swim. At low tide, you will have to walk across the rocky reef to find deeper water for a refreshing dip.

Talisay Beach is also a renowned spot for snorkeling, so make sure to bring a mask and snorkel set with you down to the beach.

DAY TRIP TO APO ISLAND

Apo Island is a volcanic island located 30km off Siquijor’s southern coastline. Notorious for its dive sites and snorkeling, an Apo Island day trip is one of the top-rated things to do!

To book an Apo Island Tour you can pop into one of the many dive shops and resorts located along Paliton Beach in San Juan and organize your trip through them at least one day in advance.

A barbecue lunch and cold refreshments are usually included with the Apo Island tour.

Apo Island has been the longest-lasting community-led marine protected area in the Philippines since 1986.

Apo Island is so aesthetically pleasing to the eyes that you won’t want to close them! We anchored up the boat on the outer edge of the reef near the main beach port of Apo Island.

Shortly after anchoring, we all jumped off the side of the boat and were snorkeling with turtles in no time!

The Apo Island tour is an entire day of snorkeling with sea turtles, fish, sea snakes, and hundreds of colorful corals. There are also a few small mountain peaks on Apo Island that you can hike.

TUBOD MARINE SANCTUARY

Tubod Marine Sanctuary is a protected reef making it one of the best snorkeling and dive sites on Siquijor Island .

Tubod Marine Sanctuary can be found in front of Coco Grove Resort and just off the shore from Tubod Beach in San Juan. From Paliton Beach, it’s approximately a 10-minute drive to reach Tubod Marine Sanctuary.

Colorful corals and an abundance of marine life flourish within this protected marine sanctuary so you are in for a real treat!

You can bring your own mask and snorkel with you or rent one from the resort and it’s a short distance swim out to the reef.

There are minimal currents and waves at Tubod Marine Sanctuary and the waters are incredibly clear. I recommend setting aside at least one hour of your day to enjoy this epic location.

BUTTERFLY SANCTUARY

A new tourist spot in Siquijor is the beautiful butterfly sanctuary.

The Butterfly Sanctuary is located close to the highest point on the island at Cang-apa village between Lazi and Larena. From San Juan, it is approximately a 40-minute drive.

The butterfly park is run by a local man who welcomes guests to walk around the gardens and interact with the butterflies and other bugs inside his sanctuary.

It’s wort a quick stop to have a poke around and grab a fresh buko (coconut) before continuing on to the next spot!

You can also visit the Quisol Mountain Viewpoint which is right around the corner from the butterfly sanctuary.

LOCONG FALLS

Nestled in the southern part of Siquijor Island, this waterfall offers a refreshing swimming spot for a small entrance fee of 50 pesos.

Once you get there, you’ll be greeted by a guide, which is optional but I recommend for supporting the local community.

Plus, he knows his way around the area so you stay safe with an expert.

These Siquijor Falls aren’t very high but beautiful nonetheless and there’s even a rope for you to swing and make the most of your time.

Overall, this spot provides a peaceful and secluded location for a refreshing swim in the natural beauty of Siquijor, and you can stop here on the way to Cambugahay Falls!

CANGBANGAG FALLS

The last Siquijor waterfall I recommend visiting is Cangbangag Falls. Enveloped in lush forests, this waterfall is a breathtaking sight you don’t want to miss, despite the remote location.

You can get there by scooter from Butterfly Sanctuary and, truth be told, it’s easy to get lost while finding it, but the locals will help you once you’re nearby.

I recommend wearing proper shoes as it is about a 20-minute trek to reach the falls. However, the journey is worth it once you get a glimpse of it!

The falls are not crowded, mostly visited by friendly locals, which is a great way to experience a special experience when visiting Siquijor.

All in all, I highly recommend Cangbangag Falls as one of the Siquijor destinations to add to your itinerary.

Siquijor, Philippines: What to Expect on a Siquijor Mountain Tour

Siquijor’s mountain tour involves only two (2) siquijor tourist attractions. But it is easily more exciting and energy-demanding than the coastal tour.

When we visited Siquijor , I’ve mentioned that there are two popular tours travellers can choose from: the Coastal Tour and the Mountain Tour. I have already covered the things to do and what to expect on a Coastal Tour on my previous post.

On this post, I am going to talk about the Mountain Tour, things to do, what to expect and travel tips to make your experience fun, exciting, safe and convenient.

Table of Contents

How To Get There

Cost of the mountain tour, mount bandilaan, registration and fees for the caving at cantabon cave, trek to the peak of mount bandilaan, climb the watch tower, learn about the cantabon cave from the guides, adventure at the cantabon cave, admire the gorgeous stalagmites and stalactites, swim at the cantabon cave pool, travel tips for your siquijor mountain tour.

The tour basically covers two places: the Mount Bandilaan and the Cantabon Cave . It’s less than a 30-minute drive from the Siquijor Port.

We went there on our 2nd day in the island and it was a memorable way to remember Siquijor .

After grabbing a quick breakfast near the St. Francis de Assisi Church we were immediately ushered in to the multi-cab we rented for the day.

We were a group of five and tricycles (which we used the other day) can’t climb the steep portion of the way. So the only option for us was to hire a multi-cab .

When we went there, the rental of the cab for the activity was at 1,800 Php . This includes the driver, the fuel and our transport pick up from the hostel where we were staying to the Bandilaan and back.

If you want to DIY, you can simply rent a scooter to take you . There are scooter rentals in town you can check out.

As of writing, the scooter rental is at 350 Php but you need to present a driver’s license and you need to have the proper gear .

You can also follow the map here for your guidance:

If you are wondering how much it’ll cost you, the trek to Mount Bandilaan is free . Basically you’ll only be paying for the caving activity and the transport to and from the Mount Bandilaan.

Here’s a breakdown of the expenses:

Siquijor Mountain Tour Itinerary

For a brief overview of the activity, here’s a rough itinerary of the tour for your reference to help you with your planning:

Basically the activity will take around 4 hours so you can do it during morning or in the afternoon . Personally, I’d suggest if you can do the trek first before the caving. The trek will serve as your ‘warm-up’ for the caving activity later on.

Besides you’ll be wet by the end of the activity at the cave so it’s better if you can go change or maybe relax at the Cambugahay Falls or Paliton Beach after.

Here’s a few things to know about the sites you’ll be visiting during the Siquijor Mountain Tour:

Mount Bandilaan is considered to be one of the highest points in Siquijor . It is located in Brgy Bandilaan.

There is no entrance fee when you do the trek. There are no guided tours here too so you can just be your own guide.

We actually requested our driver to be our guide when we went there as we did not know the area.

If you have more time, y ou can also check out other areas in Bandilaan . It is also known as the Bandliaan Forest Ecosystem. Here, you can also check out some other caves, natural springs and mini-waterfalls.

We were there on a limited time so we did not explore more. Nevertheless, feel free to check out the map below:

Trek Time : 20-30 minutes one way.

Cantabon Cave

The Cantabon Cave is an 800 meter stretch of cave in Brgy Cantabon known for its gorgeous stalactites and stalagmites.

As mentioned above you can either do this before trekking to Mount Bandilaan or after. It’s your choice.

Doing the activity requires that you have a local guide to take you and that you are equipped with the proper gear .

PS: I don’t have any photos of the cave as we did not bring our camera with us. Nevertheless, the entire activity was memorable that it is etched in my memory forever!

Registration is done at the Cantabon Barangay Hall. Here, you can also rent some gear that you can use as well as lockers to leave your things behind.

Fee is at 500 Php for three person . This already includes a guide: that’s 1 guide to 3 guests. But for some cases, they provide 2 guides for a group. We had a total of 3 guides with us when we were there.

You will need to wear protective head gear / hard hat when doing the activity plus head light. This and the locker is already included with the fee .

You may also add to rent non-slip shoes and cellphone pouch , should you wish to for a fee. Ours was at 50 Php for the shoes and 50 php for the cellphone pouch.

There is only one entrance and one exit so you’ll be going back the way you came.

Caving Time : 1-2 hours.

Things to Do On A Siqujor Mountain Tour

If the Coastal Tour was a bit relaxed, the Mountain Tour is not like that. You’ll need a good night sleep to complete. Kidding! hahaha..

But seriously, it’s more physical so expect more walking, getting wet and climbing .

For a summary of things to do, here’s an overview (not so brief, of course) of what we did and what you can expect when you visit.

The trail, while evident with stones is not that clearly marked. We got a bit lost with our guide who went on ahead of us.

There was a fork on the road that got us a bit of confused to be honest. And the trees were a bit dense on this area.

There are statues of the stations of the cross along the trail. This gave me the impression that this was a site not to be missed during the Holy Week. Much like the Walkway to the Old Volcano & Stations of the Cross in Camiguin.

The trek to the summit will take less than 30 minutes. Our guide previously said it was 300 steps, but I guess he was kidding as it was about 500. LOL.

The peak of Mount Bandilaan is surrounded by tall trees. There is a watch tower at the centre where you can climb up to see more of the views.

A limited number of heads is permitted though so if you come here during the Holy Week, please be mindful about that. We were the only ones who were there at that time so we had it all to ourselves.

The climb to the top of the watch tower is alright so no worries of over-exerting yourself. There is not much view of the surrounding areas here though. It is covered by the trees. Nevertheless, the fresh air will definitely relax you.

As mentioned above, you will need to have a tour guide when doing the tour.

The guides we had were young but were knowledgeable. They mostly explained about formations and pointed out the cool and unique formations of the stalactites and stalagmites.

It’s pretty cool to learn how and when the cave was first discovered. As well as about the entrances and exits and all other interesting stuff.

Expect adventure when exploring the Cantabon Cave!

You’ll be climbing over boulders, slipping down at some slope, walking on thigh-high waters and stretching your legs to reach the other side. LOL.

And most of all, you’ll be hitting your head on low ceilings (well, at least I did and it was not fun. LOL). You’ll be wearing a hard hat all throughout so serious injuries will be avoided as much as possible.

I am short so it’s saying something when I say I bumped into the ceiling. Or maybe I was just clumsy. LOl. Nevertheless, watch your head, guys!

The guides will take you to several interesting stops in the cave. They were marked of course so you won’t miss one.

You’ll be able to see various interesting shapes like a bed, a rice terraces, an altar and more.

Please be careful not to touch them though as this causes a reaction wherein the stalactites and stalagmites die and turns brown.

There’s an area in the cave where you can swim in waist-high pool of cold and fresh water. Well not really swim, but soak in.

We did this on our way-out and it was a good way to partially end the activity. There was still about a 10-20 minute walk towards the exit so we were feeling pretty refreshed by this time.

The ‘pool area’ was located on a high ceiling area and you can definitely get a good view of the cave and enjoy the cool water.

To make your trip fun, memorable and safe, here are some travel tips for you :

1. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing when you do the Mountain Tour . T-shirts and shorts that are quick to dry is preferred. You can wear long sleeves and leggings too. 2. Non-slip and closed-toe foot wear is appropriate too as there are pretty slippery and sharp areas inside the cave. 3. Secure all your valuables (if you opt to bring some) with you. As mentioned, you’ll be climbing over and going down some pretty slippery areas so its essential not to loose anything and keep them secure. 4. Listen carefully to your guide and follow their trail . There are slippery areas and you can get hurt if you don’t follow properly. 5. Please don’t touch any stalactites and stalagmites as it can kill them. 6. Don’t litter inside . If you have trash with you, wait until you get out of the cave before disposing them.

The Siquijor Mountain Tour can be exhausting (especially if you haven’t had any cardio exercise before. LOL) But it is pretty worth the effort especially the caving at the Cantabon Cave.

Aww.. Thank you Nandih.. I’m sure you’ll love the Siquijor Mountain Tour especially the Cantabon Cave.. 🙂

Looks lovely. So far I have only climbed Mt Ugo and Pulag in Philippines! Not yet got to try this mountain!

I’m sure you’ll love it.. Very peaceful 🙂

Hi! We’re going to Siquijor this summer. You have very informative review! Thank you so much! I have one question thou, how did you go over from Mt. Bandilaan to Cantabon Cave? 🙂

Hello Joyce, thanks for the positive feedback 🙂 Actually Cantabon Cave is in Mt Bandilaan, so we just rode the same multicab from the base of the area (where we hiked to their highest peak) to the Cantabon Barangay Hall for the Spelunking registration and orientation.
