3. SPEAR’s commitment to staff

SPEAR is committed to developing the skills and abilities of the people we work with, illustrated by the implementation of our Learning and Development Policy. All new staff undertake a range of training and all staff are given on-going and refresher training appropriate to their roles. Further training and personal development ideas are regularly discussed in supervision sessions and we encourage staff to undertake formal or accredited training.

We are a London Living Wage Employer and our proud to say that all our employees are paid this wage or higher.

4. Terms and conditions

SPEAR offers competitive salaries that are comparable – and often better – than other agencies in our sector. All staff start with 26 days holiday per year and this rises up to 31 with length of service. We offer maternity and paternity leave (as well as other leave) beyond the statutory minimum, to ensure that you maintain a good work-life balance. Staff will be automatically enrolled into a pension scheme after three months of service and offered a wide range of staff benefits. These include allowances for eye tests, allowances for work-related travel, cycle to work schemes and staff wellbeing sessions. All staff have access to our free Employee Assistance Programme which offers counselling and advice around a number of issues, as well as the opportunity for flexible working hours to fit around caring responsibilities and your circumstances.

To improve our work and ensure we are providing the best support, we constantly listen to our clients and engage with them. Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are officially divorced and single

LOS ANGELES (AP) —  Britney Spears  and Sam Asghari are officially divorced and single.

The dissolution of the couple’s marriage was finalized Friday by a Los Angeles County judge, nearly two years after the two were married.

The judgment comes hours after the 42-year-old pop superstar and the 30-year-old model and actor informed the court that they had reached a divorce settlement, and a week after Spears reached a  court settlement  with her father over lingering issues in her conservatorship.

The couple filed court papers Thursday and Friday saying they had reached an agreement on dividing their assets. Few details were made public, but neither Spears nor Asghari will get future spousal support.  Asghari had said in his initial petition  that he would seek financial support. Any future disputes would need to be settled in private arbitration.

Spears and Asghari separated in July, and he filed for divorce in August. They had been dating for about seven years.

The two had no children together, so no custody agreement was necessary.  Spears wrote in her memoir  published last year that she and Asghari had a miscarriage early in a pregnancy about a month before they married.

Emails seeking details or comment from lawyers for both Spears and Asghari were not immediately returned.

Their marriage at her home in June 2022 in front of guests including Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton and Madonna was seen as a triumphant milestone in her newly reclaimed life after she was freed a few months earlier from  the court conservatorship  that controlled her life and money for more than 13 years.

But they would split just over a year later.

Last Friday,  Spears and her father, Jamie Spears,  reached a settlement on the lingering issues from that legal arrangement, avoiding what could have been a long, ugly and revealing trial that was scheduled to start later this month.

Spears has said little publicly of the split.

In an  Instagram post  soon after the divorce filing, she said, “I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business !!! But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly !!!”

In her memoir, "  The Woman in Me ,” released two months after Asghari filed for divorce, Spears speaks only briefly and positively of Asghari. She describes him holding her hand while she addressed a judge remotely during a key hearing that helped end her conservatorship.

Like the vast majority of those who file for divorce in California, Asghari cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

It was the third marriage for Spears. She has two teenage sons with previous husband Kevin Federline, to whom she was married from 2004 to 2007, a time when intense media scrutiny led to emotional difficulty for her.

Spears was married for less than three days in 2004 to childhood friend  Jason Alexander , who attempted to crash her wedding to Asghari and was later convicted of misdemeanor trespassing and battery.

Spears met and began dating Asghari, a model and actor, when he appeared in her video for the song “Slumber Party” in 2016.

She cited her desire to marry him as among the reasons she wanted an end to the constraining conservatorship, which she said was preventing it. The two announced their engagement in September of 2021.

Since the conservatorship ended, Spears has put out music, including a  collaboration with Elton John  in 2022. But she has not performed live in years, and she said she has  no intention of performing or making a new album .

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Britney Spears and her father Jamie Spears will avoid what could have been a long, ugly and revealing trial with a settlement of the lingering issues in the court conservatorship that controlled her life and financial decisions for nearly 14 years.

A hearing on those issues — including a request from Jamie Spears for a broad ruling dismissing them — had been scheduled for Monday but was pulled from the court calendar after the settlement was approved by a judge on Friday.

Britney Spears was taken out of the conservatorshi p in November 2021, after a pair of speeches she made to a judge turned what had been a growing public sentiment against it into a cause best known by the hashtag #FreeBritney .

But several elements remained and dragged on in court, including final payments to the attorneys who helped operate the conservatorship. Spears' attorney Mathew Rosengart had also sought a public reckoning over what he said was financial malfeasance by Jamie Spears and allegations of excessive surveillance of Spears.

All of that will now be dispensed with in the settlement whose terms were not disclosed in a series of filings last week, one of which said Jamie Spears had been "fully and finally discharged as Former Conservator of the Estate.”

“Although the conservatorship was terminated in November, 2021, her wish for freedom is now truly complete,” Rosengart said in a statement. “As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter. It has been our honor and privilege to represent, protect, and defend Britney Spears.”

The trial had been slated to begin next month.

Jamie Spears’ attorney, Alex Weingarten, said the settlement was confidential at the insistence of her lawyer.

“Jamie has nothing to hide and would be happy to disclose everything about every aspect of the conservatorship so that the public knows the actual truth,” Weingarten said in a statement to The Associated Press on Monday. “Jamie loves his daughter very much and has always done everything he can to protect her.”

In her memoir , “ The Woman in Me ,” published last year, Spears said she felt that her father had “always been all about the money.”

She married longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari months after the conservatorship ended, but Asghari filed for divorce just over a year later. The divorce has yet to be finalized and the two are still legally wed.

And while she has dabbled in music including a 2022 collaboration with Elton John , in January she shot down rumors of a new album and vowed to “never return to the music industry.”

When Britney Spears dialed in to a court hearing on June 23, 2021, she sounded, to quote one of the many hit songs that made her a global superstar, stronger than yesterday.

For 24 minutes, Spears spoke with an astonishingly unwavering confidence about the alleged abuse she endured under a 13-year conservatorship established by her father, Jamie Spears, and his associates .

“It’s been a long time since I’ve owned my money,” she said.

Less than five months later, Britney’s wish came true: A Los Angeles judge terminated the conservatorship on Nov. 12, 2021, restoring the Grammy winner’s autonomy and granting her sole access to her $60 million estate for the first time since Feb. 1, 2008.

But two and a half years after regaining her freedom, Britney, 42, is blowing through her finances, sources tell Page Six.

“She has no concept of money,” one insider says. “For over a decade, other people were in charge of her bank accounts, and every purchase had to be reported to the court — even if it was just a pack of gum. But now, she’s on her own.”

A second source tells us that the people in Britney’s inner circle are “in a precarious position,” as they do not want to “rock the boat and make her feel like she is in a conservatorship again” by raising concerns about her spending.

“It’s tricky,” the insider notes. “No one wants to be Jamie 2.0.”

The “Toxic” singer has not released an album since August 2016, and her last tour concluded in October 2018.

She wrote on Instagram in January that she “will never return to the music industry ,” citing the trauma she has endured .

However, Britney has released two major projects since her conservatorship ended: “Hold Me Closer,” her August 2022 collaboration with Elton John that reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 , and “The Woman in Me,” her October 2023 memoir that became an instant New York Times bestseller .

We’re told the “Crossroads” star is “at the point of recoupment” with her $15 million publishing deal and earns “very significant” royalties for her candid book , which has sold more than 2 million copies in the US alone. (She reportedly gets 25 percent of the net profits.)

“She’s not broke,” our first source asserts, “but she definitely could benefit from being more careful with her cash.”

Much of Britney’s spending stems from her frequent vacations to hotspots including Maui, Hawaii , and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico .

We hear she dropped “hundreds of thousands of dollars” last year on a single trip to French Polynesia , where she stayed at the luxurious Brando resort , which can cost upwards of $23,400 per night.

“Between flying private and booking five-star villas, it can get costly — fast,” the second insider acknowledges.

A third source echoes, “She is not going broke but should keep an eye on private jets” before shutting down a “grossly exaggerated” new TMZ report that claimed Britney is in dire straits.

Private jet charters can cost anywhere between $3,000 and $185,000 an hour depending on the size of the plane and route flown, according to business aviation company Clay Lacy Aviation .

One saving grace is that the pop star — who is going through a divorce from her third husband , Sam Asghari — will no longer have to foot a multimillion-dollar bill for her legal battle with her estranged dad .

Last week, news broke that she and Jamie, 71, had privately settled their conservatorship case instead of going to trial to tie up loose financial ends.

“Her wish for freedom is now truly complete,” Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart , said in an exclusive statement to Page Six at the time. “As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter.”

Britney’s reps did not respond to requests for comment.

A state lawmaker has proposed a law change that would allow the family of ex-FDNY firefighter Derek Floyd to collect hundreds of thousands in death benefits despite his firing.

The bill from Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar (D-Queens) comes after a Post report Sunday that revealed the firefighter was let go in November by the FDNY with 10 others as the city made cuts to cover the ballooning cost of the migrant crisis.

“My bill provides Derek Floyd’s family with the financial lifeline they need in their time of grief, showing to them and the entire world our profound gratitude for his sacrifices,” said Rajkumar, a staunch ally of Mayor Eric Adams.

Floyd had been working as a probationary firefighter in the ceremonial unit for almost five years. He tried to finish the academy but had been repeatedly shot down by department doctors from returning to full duty due to complications from a heart attack that he suffered just months after he was hired.

He died on April 15 of a second heart heart attack, leaving his widow and two young kids, ages 6 and 2, with next to nothing, The Post previously reported. Had he gotten to five years on the job, his family would have been eligible for death benefits from the city.

The proposed bill would make Floyd retroactively eligible for those benefits.

“I will not allow his family to be financially devastated. Our City’s pension fund must provide them the support they deserve for Floyd’s life of service,” Rajkumar said.

The proposed change comes after FDNY Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh put the onus on lawmakers to change the pension eligibility.

“The ball is in their court,” Kavanagh told The Post Tuesday morning after saying the department had been exploring all legal actions to assist the family.

Mayor Eric Adams has defended the firing of Floyd, calling the situation “tragic” but said it was necessary since he never would be able to become a full-duty firefighter.

“We can’t just say, ‘OK, you were brought on to be a firefighter, you don’t qualify, we’re going to hold you on the payroll anyway.’ We can’t do that,” Adams told reporters Tuesday . “That is not how you use taxpayers’ dollars.”

Since Floyd had never finished the academy, he wasn’t eligible for a “reasonable accommodation,” which would allow him to stay on the job doing light-duty work due to his health issues.

The administration has also since pushed back on Floyd being directly tied to the budget cuts after first saying the group of probationary firefighters was let go as part of the department’s first round of belt-tightening last November.

Fire sources told The Post the department had been under immense pressure to reduce spending and they saw the probationary firefighters as “low-hanging fruit.”

In the days after Floyd’s firing, fire officials said they planned to push out nearly 200 firefighters on long-term light duty to meet Adams’s demands for a 5% cut in November.

That reduction was reversed in January and only applied to firefighters who made it through the academy, according to the administration.

There were three other calls that were deemed incorrect: there should have been 0.4 seconds left in regulation, and Knicks ball, after Nicolas Batum blocked Jalen Brunson 's potential game-tying shot out of bounds (the clock instead ran out, sending the game to overtime); Brunson should've been called for an offensive foul in overtime on the play that ultimately became a flagrant foul on Joel Embiid for hitting Brunson in the head; and Josh Hart was not actually out of bounds with 41.5 seconds to go.

It is another way in which Philadelphia's Game 5 miracle mirrors New York's doing the same thing to the Sixers in Game 2, as there were multiple officiating errors in New York's favor as part of that comeback in the Last Two Minute Report from that game.

The two teams have now both come back from at least five-point deficits inside the final 30 seconds of regulation to win a game in this series -- something that had happened only three times in the past 25 years before these playoffs, and now has happened twice in the same building in the past 10 days.

Game 6 will take place Thursday night in Philadelphia, with Game 7 -- if Philadelphia wins -- being back in New York on Saturday night.

We Were the Lucky Ones : The Biggest Differences Between the Novel and Hulu Series Starring Joey King

The Hulu limited series We Were the Lucky Ones sees its series finale Thursday, May 2. Both the show and its source material — the 2017 novel of the same name by Georgia Hunter — follow the Kurc family, who are Polish and Jewish, throughout World War II. Once the war began, the family was scattered across the globe, in places like a ship on the Mediterranean to a Siberian labor camp, and went years without knowing where some members were. The story is based upon the the author’s family’s experiences and stories of survival. Hunter wrote and researched the sprawling novel for nearly a decade, spending time in her family’s Radom hometown and in museums, as well as interviewing her relatives and their descendants. “I went into this particular project as a family historian, not really as an author,” Hunter told PEOPLE of the novel. “I had never written a book before, so I set out in 2008 to unearth and record the family story.”

The Hulu series stars Logan Lerman as Addy Kurc and Joey King as Halina Kurc. The cast also features Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Genek Kurc, Hadas Yaron as Mila Kurc, Amit Rahav as Jakob Kurc, Robin Weigert as Nechuma Kurc, Lior Ashkenazi as Sol Kurc, Sam Woolf as Adam, Michael Aloni as Selim, Eva Feiler as Bella and Moran Rosenblatt as Herta. Though the series stays close to its source material — Hunter also served as an executive producer on the show — there are some slight changes. Here are some of the biggest differences between Hunter’s novel and the Hulu series.

The series and the novel begin differently

In the novel, readers are first introduced to Addy, who, in 1939, is living in Paris and is unable to go back home to Poland for Passover. He has just received a letter from his mother, who warns him that it’s too dangerous to travel across German borders at the start of the war. The series starts out differently, and utilizes a nonlinear timeline. The show opens with the Kurc's youngest child, Halina, at a Red Cross office in Poland in 1945. Halina receives word that her brother, Genek, sister-in-law Herta and brother-in-law, Selim, are alive. The show then cuts to 1938, when Addy returns to Poland from Paris, and the family celebrates their last Passover together before the war.

Bella doesn't travel to Lvov alone

The Kurc family begin to get seperated from one another at the start of the war. Jakob, the Kurc’s youngest son, leaves for Lvov to fight in the military, and his girlfriend, Bella, decides to travel to meet him and to be closer to her sister, Anna.

In the novel, Bella attempts the journey to Lvov alone, traveling by horse and wagon by a man named Tomek. In the show, however, Halina accompanies her. The two are turned back at gunpoint after German officers discover that they are Jewish. Halina and Bella eventually make it to Lvov on their own, where Bella and Jakob get married in a secret ceremony.

A new scene involving Genek is added to the show

A new scene is added to the TV series, taking place when the eldest Kurc child, Genek, and his wife, Herta, are working in a Siberian labor camp after Genek is arrested by soldiers and deemed an enemy of the state. Genek didn’t disclose that he was Jewish and Polish before renting an apartment.  At the camp, Genek attempts to get a doctor and time off for Herta, who is pregnant, but his requests are denied. When his food rations are cut after he didn't show up for work (a prison guard who originally gave him permission later denied doing so), Genek loses his temper and tells off the Commandant about the unfair treatment of prisoners in the camp. No such scene happens in the novel, though Herta and Genek’s son, Józef, is still born in the labor camp.

Mila leaves her job as a nanny under slightly different circumstances

During the war, Mila takes a job as a nanny for a German family, but ultimately has to leave. In the novel, she resigns from her job after her boss confronts her about visiting a seamstress, who is helping Mila to hide her daughter, Felicia, in a Włocławek convent under a false name. In the series, Mila is confronted by her boss after she takes her boss’s son, Edgar, to the park. Edgar is playing a game with other children, where they are pretending to be soldiers and Jews, and complains to Mila about having “to be a Jew.” Mila and her boss get into an argument afterward with her boss saying that Edgar “was accused of being a Jew.”

Both versions of the story see Mila’s boss hitting her over the head with a vase, and Mila vowing to never return to work there.

Adam goes with Mila to find Felicia after a bombing in Warsaw

One of the most harrowing moments in the show and novel is when Mila goes to rescue Felicia in the aftermath of bombing in Warsaw. In the novel, Mila arrives at the convent and searches for her daughter with Tymoteusz, the father of another child. In the show, Halina’s partner, Adam, goes with Mila to rescue Felicia. Eventually, Mila and Adam, along with Halina, parents Sol and Nechuma, and Felicia embark on a journey through the Alps to reunite with Selim, Genek and Herta once the family learns that they are alive.

Addy learns of his family’s survival while with different people

A touching scene in both versions of the story sees Addy receiving news that his family is alive, while he’s living in Brazil. In the book, Addy learns of his family’s survival while with his friend Sebastian, a writer from Poland, who also traveled with Addy on the ship Cabo de Hornos .

In the show, Addy receives the good news while he is with Eliska, his ex-fiancée. In the series, Addy and Eliska stayed in touch, even after they called off their engagement, and Addy began a relationship with an American woman named Caroline.
