Get ready, Star Trek: Prodigy fans! Your favorite characters from the beloved series are coming to retailers soon and StarTrek.com has your first look.

Star Trek: Prodigy follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search for a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the Star Trek franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.

The new line will include the following Star Trek: Prodigy characters:

• Dal R’El figure with Murf
• Hologram Janeway
• Rok-Tahk (coming early 2023)

These five-inch, 1:14 scale figures will feature 14 points of articulation and come packaged in a brand-new blister pack style designed exclusively for the Star Trek: Prodigy toy line.

“We are excited to be bringing Star Trek: Prodigy toys and accessories home to families for the first time. This new lineup we are unveiling is highly focused on playability — we want kids to take the toys out of the packaging and engage in imaginative play as if they were part of the Star Trek world themselves,” said Karl Aaronian, senior vice president, Playmates Toys.

The action figures will be available at online retailers beginning in October 2022 and on store shelves in spring 2023. New Star Trek: Prodigy ships, vehicles, and role play toys will be available later in 2023.

Star Trek Prodigy Holographic Captain Janeway, Star Trek Universe from Playmates

Courtesy of Big Bad Toy Store , we now have our first look at the Holographic Captain Janeway figure Star Trek Prodigy, and part of the wider Playmates Star Trek Universe 5-inch line. The Prodigy figures, based on the 2021 animated Nickelodeon Series, were initially planned for a 2022 release - but have been pushed back to Spring 2023.

We can look forward to Captain Janeway in her Starfleet uniform alongside figures of Zero, Gwyndala, Jankom Pog, and Dal R'El with Murf. We also know that an accompanying figure of Rok-Tahk is also in the works.

The USS Protostar, from Prodgigy, is also coming in the Starship sector of the Playmates Star Trek Universe line - while a Prodigy Phaser and Tricorder are also planned. There are also a number of new figures planned for 2023/4 as seen at the London Toy Fair but these remain under an embargo.

First Look at Playmates Toys’ “Star Trek: Prodigy” Figures

Star Trek  toys have a long and weird history. (If you haven’t yet, check out the “Star Trek” episode of  The Toys That Made Us !) And last year, Playmates Toys returned to the fold when they reacquired the license for all  Star Trek properties. The new line launches this year, and yesterday they, along with Paramount Consumer Products, revealed a first look at the upcoming figures for Star Trek: Prodigy .

The five-inch, 1:14 scale figures will feature 14 points of articulation. They will be packaged in a brand-new blister pack style that has been designed exclusively for the  Star Trek: Prodigy line.

The figures will be available from online retailers in October 2022 and hit store shelves sometime in spring of 2023. At launch the line will include Dal R’El (with Murf), Gwyndala, Jankom Pog, Hologram Janeway, and Zero. Rok-Tahk will be available early next year. Also available next year, expect new ships, vehicles, and role-play toys all from the  Star Trek: Prodigy toy line.

Star Trek: Prodigy , which currently streams on Paramount+ and will air on Nickelodeon later this year, follows a young crew of escaped prisoners who find an abandoned Starfleet vessel called the  Protostar . They are guided across the universe by a holographic Kathryn Janeway, who introduces both the characters and the audience to everything there is to know about Starfleet.

This is a show that works on multiple levels. Kid or adult, long-time fan or relative newbie, there will be something to love about this series. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend checking it out! It’s only ten episodes, so it will be fairly easy to binge. You’ll definitely want to get caught up before season 1 returns later this year!

Star Trek’s Playmate toy launch line introduces Prodigy figures

Star Trek released the first look at the Prodigy line of figures from Playmates.

Colletors and fans with kids who want to play with new Trek toys are in luck, as the long-expected Star Trek: Prodigy line of Trek action figures has been unveiled. The new line will include Dal R’El figure with Murf, Gwyndala, Jankom Pog, Hologram Janeway, and Zero, with Rok-Tahk coming in 2023.

Of the new action figures, Rok-Tahk and Hologram Janeway aren’t shown in the preview posted to Star Trek.com . The toys will be available in October of 2022, and according to the press release, the new line of toys will include the USS Protostar as well.

The new line of Trek action figures for Prodigy was presumed to be the reason the toyline came back to Trek after nearly two decades of not working together. The toyline was immensely popular in the 90s, however, and helped lead to both Trek and Playmates reaching more fans than people probably ever expected.

Star Trek: Prodigy joins the other new line of action figures from Playmates

The Trek: Prodigy will join The Wrath of Khan, The Next Generation, and Discovery with new figures. With Khan Noonien Singh, James T. Kirk, Spock, Patrick Stewart, William Riker, Data, Saru, Michael Burnham, and the six Prodigy figures, that ups the return line to 14.

The non-Prodigy figures will be available in July.

‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Coming To Nickelodeon In The UK And 8 Other Countries In April

Star Trek: Prodigy is about to expand its global reach as the animated series aimed at kids of all ages is set to debut on the Nickelodeon channel in the UK in April, along with eight other countries.

TrekMovie has confirmed Nickelodeon is set to start their international rollout of Star Trek: Prodigy , beginning with nine countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa. In April the series will debut in the UK, France, Spain, and Portugal for Europe. It will also debut in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines in Asia. And in Africa, the series will debut in Nigeria and South Africa. Nickelodeon will be airing the first 10 episodes from the first half of season one, which have already streamed on Paramount+. We are currently awaiting exact release dates for each territory.

Created by Emmy-winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters), the CG-animated series was developed for younger audiences and those not familiar with Star Trek. The series follows a motley crew of young aliens who discover a Starfleet ship and must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future. Even though it is intended for the uninitiated, the series has been popular with many Trek fans, especially those with families. The voice cast includes Kate Mulgrew, playing the Emergency Training Hologram, based on Captain Kathryn Janeway of Star Trek: Voyager .

Various international Nickelodeon websites have started to set up promotional pages for the show, including the UK,  where you can watch trailers and get more Prodigy -related info.

Over last weekend Nickelodeon UK hosted a premiere event with BAFTA including a panel with series creators Kevin and Dan Hageman, director Ben Hibon, and stars Angus Imrie, Kate Mulgrew, and Ella Purnell.

According to Nickelodeon, they plan to launch Prodigy in additional international territories later this year, but those details have yet to be announced. Prodigy is also expected to arrive on Nickelodeon in the USA, however, there currently aren’t any details yet.

Prodigy streams on Paramount+ in the U.S.A., Latin America, the Nordic Countries, and Australia. It will also be available to stream via the Paramouint+ Sky partnership as that roles out in Europe, starting in the UK this summer. In Canada Prodigy airs on CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave . Paramount+ has announced plans to debut the second half of season one later in 2022.

At last! I’m in the US myself and have loved this show since Day 1, but I’m glad our comrades across the pond will finally get to enjoy it as well.

I mean, I didn’t personally do anything to make it happen, but you’re welcome all the same! ;) :D

And I hope you enjoy the show as much as I do.

At first I assumed Prodigy was going to be just for kids and I had no real expectations…. i just hoped it would help build a new younģer audience for future Star Trek.

That said, I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the show. If you keep an open mind and remember who the target audience is, I think even old time legacy fans like me also can enjoy the show.

I must say, at 55 years young, I’ve also enjoyed this show thus far, like you said keeping in mind its target audience. Good writing, nice callbacks to former shows, respects what came before it. I especially enjoyed the “Kobayashi” episode, very well done, imo.

With the exception of TOS Season One, this is the only Trek series to launch with a clear sense of purpose, how the characters’ arcs will grow and organically serve that purpose, and what the overall themes will be and how they will be addressed. Most Trek series need at least a couple of seasons to figure out all of this, but Prodigy nailed it from the pilot.

From TNG forward, there has always been quite a revolving door of creative executives from the start, and I’d wager that’s the reason for the uncertainty of what ended up on screen. Perhaps the Prodigy team is much more on the same page than prior Trek creative teams?

After debuting their James T. Kirk and Dr. McCoy figures last month, the company is now expanding their offerings with Spock (based upon Zachary Quinto’s character) and Prime Spock (based upon Leonard Nimoy’s role) — each designed like their appearance in the 2009 Trek film.

Each Spock figure is available for preorder now at the Hiya Toys website for $24.99; Spock is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2024, with Prime Spock to follow next Spring.

Next, EXO-6 continues to explore the 1:6-scale  Star Trek universe with the newest villain from the final frontier: Commander Kruge from  Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

Based upon actor Christopher Lloyd’s character from the third  Trek feature film, EXO-6’s first Klingon release includes the alien warrior’s iconic Klingon Defense Force uniform in all its intricate details, measuring 12.5 inches all and including a removable cloak, rooted hair, a Klingon disruptor and communicator, and multiple hands to support each accessory.

EXO-6’s Kruge figure is available for preorder now for $295 (plus shipping), and is projected to ship in the second quarter of 2024.

First announced back in April, UK-based model and toy manufacturer Corgi UK is moving forward with their return to the Star Trek licensed product game.

Starting off with the two most predictable starship offerings, Corgi will be selling 20cm models of the  Constitution- class USS Enterprise and the  Galaxy- class  USS Enterprise- D.

While the ships (and potential future  Trek offerings) will be available to ship to fans in the UK and many other international regions, Corgi does not currently have a distribution license to the United States or Canada — so for now, these ships will be out of reach to collectors in North America.

If you’re in one of the regions where Corgi  can ship, however, you can preorder each ship now for £54.99  ahead of an expected “Winter 2023/2024” delivery.

Finally, Insight Editions is reviving the  Star Trek  advent calendar for 2023 — following Eaglemoss in 2021 and Numskull in 2022 (that one still available) — with a new Enterpise- D shuttlecraft-themed box for the upcoming holiday season.

Instead of a full month’s worth of hidden gifts, this calendar pack is scheduled for a 12-day Christmas countdown — and covers most eras of the  Trek  franchise, including The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Discovery, Lower Decks , and more.

The gallery above has a spoiler image of all 13 gifts if you want to see what’s packed inside; along with the small gifts, each shuttle also comes with a signed  Trek  art print from artist Ryan Dening.

Hopefully Star Trek knows that an upset fan doesn't equal a toxic one

S tar Trek's leading voice is Alex Kurtzman. He's one of the most notable names in the world of Star Trek right now, and he's also one of the biggest reasons the franchise has stumbled out of the gates. For over seven years, he's wasted time and money catering to passion projects that seemingly exclude the core fan base. It's only been recently with more broader shows in Prodigy and Strange New Worlds that he's started to realize he needed to make changes.

Gone were the 'grimdark' show, edgy for the sake of being edgy, and in were more classic Star Trek shows that followed more of the othos that Gene Roddenberry set out to see in the world. The change wasn't just because he thought Discovery was a bad show and they needed to do better, the chance was the ratings. Discovery had bad ratings, and people weren't happy.

So unhappy that they did the one thing they didn't really want to do and listened to the fans who were unhappy. The many, many unhappy fans.

Kurtzman told Variety he did just that, but he ignored those pesky "toxic" fans, saying;

“We listened to a lot of it (fan complaints). I think I’ve been able to separate the toxic fandom from really true fans who love ‘Star Trek’ and want you to hear what they have to say about what they would like to see.”

What makes a toxic fan? I think we can all agree that harassing people on social media or in person (or any other way) is wrong. But what about pointing out that fans largely don't like the new shows? Not for race or creed, but because the writing is bad or because it targets a very niche audience?

It's a bit concerning to hear Kurtzman talk about listening to fans but dismissing the ones who may be "toxic" because he doesn't really describe what to him is a toxic fan. Are the reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes toxic for calling a show that doesn't feel, look, or sound like a Star Trek show bad? He may think so, and that's not a good thing, because they're right.

They're upset that a show they watched for decades is being marred by bad writing and even worse direction. They're not toxic for pointing that out. They would be if they didn't like it for the reasons of race, creed or what have you.

But most of us don't like a majority of the new Star Trek because it isn't Star Trek in our eyes. It's not that it's new, it's that it's not what we expect from Star Trek. It's like ordering a pizza and you get steak tacos instead. Still a delicious item to eat, but not what we ordered.

When you force Star Trek to be more Ricky and Morty than it is Star Trek, you fail. Pointing that out isn't toxic. Hopefully, he knows this, because he's the man running the ship for better or worse and he has to be able to figure out what does and doesn't work and why.

Going too far from the core concept of the show will anger the fandom, and they have a right to be angry. We know what the franchise should do, it's why we're here. We're just hoping that pointing out that we want classic Trek back isn't going to be seen as "toxic" because it's not.

Ignoring what the fans want, however, is very toxic.
