For those truly epic, once-in-a-lifetime destinations, you want to leave your itinerary to the experts. Whether your dream is to see the Big Five on an African Safari, trek tall mountains, explore European cities, or something even wilder, a group tour is the easiest way to do it.
However, picking the wrong group tour company is the quickest way to ruin your trip. Make sure you choose a tour company that aligns with your goals and travel styles. Do you want an intimate group tour or do you prefer to make lots of new friends in a big group? Does the price line up with what you like (luxury vs. budget)? Is the itinerary going to all the places you want to see?
We’ve done the research and found the very best group travel tour companies for 2023 for every type of traveler.
Best Overall Group Travel: Exodus Travels
With trips on every continent, Exodus Travels covers anywhere on this planet that you could possibly want to go, from popular destinations like the Amalfi Coast to well off-the-beaten path adventures like Tajikistan. This award-winning group travel company boasts thousands of repeat customers who sign up for trips year after year (97% of past participants would recommend Exodus Travels to a friend).
These small group tours operate with only around 12-16 people, and always feature experienced local leaders who can give you a unique insight into your destination. Exodus Travels caters to any type of travel style, including trips broken down by type of activity (think walking, cycling, multi-adventure, winter, or cultural) as well as type of traveler (family, age group, etc.). There are curated collections (coastal, “away from it all”, European wilderness, and trips of a lifetime) to inspire you, as well as self-guided options for when you want all the benefits of a group tour planner without the actual group. Looking for that special safari? Exodus Travels just partners with the African Wildlife Foundation to create carefully curated luxury adventures that go above and beyond the standard safari.
Exodus Travels tours work for almost any budget, with options that range from affordable to premium.
Top Trip: Explore under-the-radar Europe by foot on Exodus Travels’ Lakes & Mountains of Slovenia walking tour .
A Taste of the Sweet Life in Slovenia
Best Adventure Group Travel: World Expeditions
World Expeditions has been taking adventurous travelers to remote locations all over the world ever since its first group trek through Nepal in 1975. Today, World Expeditions offers active itineraries on every continent. Intrepid travelers can opt for trips themed around mountaineering, rafting, cycling, hiking, and more.
World Expeditions aims to leave communities and places where they operate tours better than they found them. Trips are created using the company’s Thoughtful Travel Charter as a guideline, which emphasizes respect for the environment, sustainability, having a positive impact on local communities, protecting wildlife, and more.
World Expeditions’ trips are capped at just 16 people to provide a good experience for participants, and there are no single supplements for solo travelers willing to share a room with someone of the same gender.
Top Trip: Summit Africa’s tallest mountain on a fully-supported trek up Kilimanjaro on World Expeditions’ eight day trip up the beautiful Lemosho Route .
Best Budget Group Travel: G Adventures
For travelers on a budget, G Adventures offers cheap group tours that make dream destinations accessible to nearly anyone. (Think: sailing the Galapagos for just $1,124 , criss-crossing India’s Golden Triangle for $559 , or spending 8 days in Bali for less than $800.)
G Adventures is one of the best tour companies for solo travelers as well, as most trips don’t have a single-supplement. You can choose to share a room with another G Adventures solo traveler, or pay extra to have your own space.
G Adventures keeps costs down by opting for cheaper hotels and local meals, and making certain activities optional (for an additional cost). Pick your travel style—options range from “basic” to more luxe tours run in partnership with National Geographic. Family tours, local living tours (featuring homestays), and wellness-focused tours are also available.
Top Trip: G Adventures’ China Express trip is a great way to see the highlights of China if you’re short on both time and budget.

Terms and conditions, cancellations/transfers & travel protection.
We realize that illness and other reasons arise that may make it impossible for you to travel. For this reason, a travel protection policy (which includes cancellation insurance) through a third party is available and it’s highly recommended that you purchase this at the same time you make your initial tour payment. Those who have purchased travel protection and must cancel for a covered reason, will be reimbursed by the travel protection company the balance of any non-refunded funds (minus the travel protection premium). Regardless of the reason, cancellations, credits, and transfers of confirmed bookings result in a costly process of e-mails, letters, phone calls, adjustments, refunds, and penalties/fees assessed by our travel suppliers. Therefore, the below cancellation policies and fees are in place. Note that the below fees are per person and apply if you choose NOT to purchase travel protection or if you cancel for a non-covered reason.
Single-Day Tour Cancellations
- If you cancel 30 or more days prior to the departure date, you may receive a credit minus a $10 p.p. administrative fee* or a refund minus a $25 p.p. administrative fee*.
- If you cancel within 30 days of departure, you may receive a credit (minus $10 p.p.*) or a refund (minus $25 p.p.*) ONLY if your space can be resold from a waitlist.
- In addition to the administrative fee, all non-recoverable or non-transferable fees made to our suppliers on your behalf (for tickets, etc.) will be retained.
- Refund provisions vary from tour to tour and there are exceptions to the above policy and some tours (including those tours involving theatre tickets or high-security access) may have different or additional restrictions.
Multi-Day Tour Cancellations
- If you cancel prior to our established balance payment deadline (generally 60-90 days depending on the tour) you may receive a credit minus a $50 p.p. administrative fee* or a refund minus a $75 p.p. administrative fee*.
- If you cancel after our established balance payment deadline (generally 60-90 days depending on the tour) you may receive a credit (minus $75 p.p.*) or a refund (minus $125 p.p.*).
- If you cancel within 30 days of departure, you may receive a credit (minus $150 p.p.*) or a refund (minus $250 p.p.*) ONLY if your space can be resold from a waitlist.
- If you cancel within 15 days of departure, you may receive a credit (minus $250 p.p.*) or a refund (minus $500 p.p.*) ONLY if your space can be resold from a waitlist.
- In addition to the administrative fee, all non-recoverable or non-transferable fees made to our suppliers on your behalf (for airfare, tickets, lodging, services, etc.) will be retained.
- Refund provisions vary from tour to tour and there are exceptions to the above policy and some tours (including international tours and national park tours) may have different or additional restrictions.
Additional Notes About Cancellations
Credit does not expire and may be left on your account for future use or immediately transferred to another tour. No credits or refunds are available for failure to board the motorcoach on the day of departure.

ABOUT US
TIME TRAVEL is a full-service travel agency and tour operator that can assist you with all your travel needs. Our specialty is organizing and leading "once in a lifetime" tours to the lesser traveled, hidden places throughout Ireland and Britain. We will also assist you in organizing your own self-directed experience. We pride ourselves on outstanding customer service. Time Travel is a green company, choosing not only to recycle and reuse but to be a part of Portland General Electric's Wind Power Program. Our goal is to help you see the world in a responsible manner, taking into consideration the impact our tours have on the environment and only using like-minded companies to help us fulfill your overall travel experience from the hotels we use to the coaches we hire. We invite you to join us on tour as traveling with us is an assurance that in addition to visiting the famous, you will also travel the backroads and fall in love with the real Ireland, Britain, and her people. We are members of SKAL, CLIA, ASTA, ICTA, and GWA. Ginger Aarons has served on the boards of the Garden Writer's Association (GWA-Region VI.) as regional director and the Sherwood Rotary Club.
We offer Travel Insurance by Travel Guard and IMGlobal . You will find a link to these here and on the Travel Planning page. We are happy to help you with a quote. We also offer airline tickets, retail and wholesale. We're here to help you plan every aspect of your holiday, from the planning stages to restaurant reservations. Testimony: "... this was my third trip to Ireland and the first time I saw Ireland, a country of incredible beauty which appreciates my tourist dollars, but also a country alive and working with great mixes of people and ideas - thank you for helping me to see Ireland." Gayle Soles - Simi Valley, CA Testimony: "....If you want the trip of a lifetime to Ireland, Time Travel Tours is the only way to go. You will meet interesting people and see magnificent places that the general tourist would never even dream about. The one thing you must beware of is the fact that you will be eating at some fantastic restaurants and will experience a tightening of the waistband by the end of the trip. Be prepared for lots of laughter, beautiful scenery, and being pampered! Bill & Sharon Martin
Ginger Aarons-Garrison, CTC, is the founder of Time Travel. Time Travel was formed while she was researching her Scots-Irish ancestry and was asked by fellow genealogists to put a tour together to Northern Ireland. Also, I am a 34-year veteran in travel and a Certified Travel Counselor. Ginger can offer you a world of experience in a variety of other travel experiences, such as cruises, all-inclusive vacations, and business travel. Ginger travels to Ireland every year and spends 6-12 weeks researching new places to stay and leading groups, finding the most unique hot spots to eat and places to see. She is constantly on the lookout for those extraordinary things, places, and people that make a tour with Time Travel so unique from the other companies out there. She has extensive contacts in Ireland, assuring the best trip possible with the help of all of her colleagues in Ireland and Britain. Our Newest Collaborating Efforts are with Kenneth Catlett . Kenneth will be heading our Arts and Designs for our Travel Journals and other promotional Items used on tour. The 15 Best Tour Operators in 2022
These are the companies Travel + Leisure readers trust to provide them with travel expertise and memorable experiences.
Note: If you’re looking for our most recent recommendations, check out the 2023 list of our favorite tour operators .
When it comes to an itinerary, Travel + Leisure readers want more than a string of photo opportunities — and the right tour operator makes all the difference in creating a trip of a lifetime versus one that simply checks off a list of sights. This year, our readers were especially drawn to companies that utilize local expertise and experience to thoughtfully design trips that will entertain as well as inspire.
Every year for our World's Best Awards survey , T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Readers rated tour operators and safari outfitters based on their staff and guides, itineraries and destinations, activities, accommodations, food, and overall value.
The top picks were noted for their deep knowledge of destinations and guides who "go the extra mile." One reader who has been traveling for more than five decades said a trip with Classic Journeys (No. 2) was the "very best" they had experienced. Others noted attention to pandemic safety details, while one who went to Norway was charmed by a "wonderful surprise dinner in Bergen out on the water that was fantastic."
Tour operators that seamlessly navigated the logistics of a trip also came out on top. Quasar Expeditions (No. 9) was noted "for really planning out every detail" so that "all you have to do is show up and have a great time." Meanwhile, of TCS World Travel (No. 10), a guest said: "You never lift a finger and just spend your time actually exploring the destination." They even added that they "learned so much" along the way.
Among the five companies on this year's list that weren't on last year's were two women-only tour operators that cater to travelers of all ages. AdventureWomen (No. 14) has multiday tours designed by women from Bhutan to Yellowstone National Park, while Explorer Chick (No. 15) has everything from day trips — like glassblowing in Baltimore and cave rappelling in St. Louis — to full itineraries in Machu Picchu and the Galápagos. One reader said her Everest Base Camp trip with AdventureWomen was filled with "like-minded women" who "bonded so well," while another said she felt it was a "safe tour group for women."
No matter which tour they chose, readers were most taken by the people they met along the way, as one said of Trek Travel (No. 13): "By the end of the trip, a group of strangers felt like longtime friends." Find out which other companies round out the list of the best tour operators below.
1. DuVine Cycling + Adventure Co.
A tour with DuVine goes far beyond just riding a bike — it's a way to really see the character of a destination. Case in point: even those who say they're not necessarily cycling fans have been converted. That's part of what helped the tour operator — which runs trips in Europe, the U.S., Latin America, and Africa — skyrocket from No. 14 last year to this year's top spot. Its "top-notch biking equipment" and "challenging but doable itineraries" didn't hurt either. One reader was especially taken by a guide picking figs off of a local tree in Puglia for an extra energy boost during a tough climb, as well as another guide singing to the group after dinner. As another reader put it simply: "They exceed your expectations."

What can I say...just fantastic! You won't go wrong with this tour or this company! Next year California with Travelling Tme to join others from our group...friends for life!
I've been on Travelling Time's Southern Style tour twice now (2015 and 2019) and loved every moment of both trips. It's obvious that an huge amount of thought has gone into the itinerary and it delivers from the very first minute to the very last. The amount of attraction visits, music, meals and sight seeing trips included in the price is incredible value for money and you won't miss a thing. Nothing is ever rushed but the plannning and professionalism of the TT team means that you get to spend exactly the right amount of time in all the right places, they even manage to find time to fulfill people's special requests whenever they can. I don't know how Lynda and her team do it but everyone on the tour is made to feel part of everything right from the start and I've made some great friends and we plan to meet up on many more TT trips. If you're looking for an American music tour that has everything this is the one for you, check it out and I promise you won't regret it.

The Ministry of Time
By Kaliane Bradley Avid Reader Press: 352 pages, $28.99 If you buy books linked on our site, The Times may earn a commission from Bookshop.org , whose fees support independent bookstores.
“People aren’t history,” scoffs Adela, vice secretary of the Ministry, whose work is shrouded in secrecy and subterfuge. This retort comes late in Kaliane Bradley’s debut novel, “The Ministry of Time,” but it’s a telling line. Its dismissal of individual lives reveals the novel’s stakes. If people aren’t history, what is? This is a disturbing statement to come out of the mouth of a high-ranking British bureaucrat. For a book that could also be easily described as witty, sexy escapist fiction, “The Ministry of Time” packs a substantial punch.
Of late, many critically acclaimed books embrace mystery and absurdity in a way that both suspends and expands conventionally held notions of time. Hilary Leichter’s “Terrace Story,” National Book Critics Circle award winner Lorrie Moore’s “I Am Not Homeless If This Is Not My Home,” Ali Smith’s “Companion Piece,” National Book Award winner Justin Torres’ “Blackouts,” and Marie-Helene Bertino’s “Beautyland,” among others, forge poignant, bracing emotional connections. Their playfulness reveals possibilities and perspectives that might be lost in a novel bound by fact-checked 21st century reality. After all, in a world where nothing feels normal, fiction that embraces a disregard for physics and convention mirrors our new upside-down quotidian life.
To this end, Kaliane Bradley proves that it’s possible to address imperialism, the scourge of bureaucracy, cross-cultural conflict and the paranoia inherent in a surveillance state through her utterly entertaining novel. “The Ministry of Time” begins with a sixth-round job interview for an undisclosed position. The unnamed narrator is caught off guard when “the interviewer said my name, which made my thoughts clip. I don’t say my name, not even in my head. She’d said it correctly, which people generally don’t.” For the narrator, who “plateaued” as a “translator-consultant” in the Languages department of the Ministry of Defense, this top-secret job that pays three times her current salary is worth the mystery.
Soon the work is disclosed. The narrator, whose mother immigrated to the United Kingdom from Cambodia, will be working closely with people who might bristle at the term “refugees.” She’s now part of the Ministry of Expatriation working with one of five “expats” scavenged from the past. Confident in her storytelling, Bradley sweeps away the details of how and why time travel exists in the novel.
A disorienting, masterful, shape-shifting novel about multiracial identity
Rachel Khong’s irresistible puzzle of a second novel suggests it is a mistake to think we can force complex, nature-nurture identities in a chosen direction.
April 22, 2024
“All you need to know is that in your near future, the British government developed the means to travel through time but had not yet experimented with doing it.” With that, from the jump, readers and characters alike are asked to take a leap of faith as the narrator assumes the role of a “bridge” between an “expat” and modern life. The larger purpose of her work is elusive to her as well, but, in short, the narrator is tasked to be the roommate of an explorer named Commander Graham Gore who died on a doomed Royal Navy Arctic exhibition in 1847. He’s mannered, understandably jumpy, but also rather sexy for someone who died close to 200 years ago. Will this be an odd sort of meet-cute, or is something more chaotic afoot?
Buckle up, the ride has just begun. Juggling notions of “hereness” (the present) and “thereness” (the past), the novel’s five expats come to grips — or not — with the fact that they have been snatched from the past. The ministry selected individuals who were on the point of death so that their departures from the past would in no way rupture their historic timelines. But how would they affect the present? The bridges take notes, and medical examinations are de rigueur, but these collected data are merely passed along without much in the way of analysis.
The expats and bridges adjust to life together in a largely amusing fashion, sharing lovely homes provided by the ministry, visiting pubs, learning about the very existence of cinema. Music streaming services are a hit, but, generally speaking, the expats find it hard to accept the scale of modern life. Whether this is due to some physical mutation created by the process of time travel or if it’s merely the challenge of cultural displacement for people “loose as dust in narrative time,” true fissures begin to surface.
How many lives can one author live? In new short stories, Amor Towles invites us along for the ride
For fans who worry that a volume comprising six stories and a novella won’t serve up the deeper delights of his novels, prepare for what may be Towles’ best book yet.
March 29, 2024
In a manner that feels wholly unsurprising to the reader, suspicions arise as to the nature of the project. Why exactly is there a need for secrecy and what are the particulars about this ability to time travel that we’re asked to tacitly accept? Tensions also flare between the narrator and another bridge, Simellia, who are the two people of color in this tightly knit circle. The specter of imperialism looms and informs a certain tension between the narrator and Gore. Yet, as a green bureaucrat, happy to rise in the ranks, she confronts Simellia, saying, “You signed up for this job… [knowing], as much as I did, that what we were doing was world-changing. That’s what you wanted, remember? Do you think the world changes by being asked politely? Or do you think there has to be risk?”
But this brash confidence begins to waver. The narrator recognizes, “Every time I gave Graham a book, I was trying to shunt him along a story I’d been telling myself all my life.” Then she notes that the ministry “fed us all poison from a bottle marked ‘prestige’ and we developed a high tolerance for bitterness.” While the book does assume some obvious postures of university level post-colonial theory and language, it moves past these more cliched moments by focusing its attention on the characters. A tight narrative rich with witty banter, cutting observations and interspersed passages from Gore’s doomed expedition also keep the novel taut.
“Maybe I was tired of stories, telling them and hearing them,” muses the narrator. Curiously, while she made languages her profession (hence her tendency to consider that “the great project of Empire was to categorize: owned and owner, coloniser and colonised, evolué and barbarian, mine and yours.”), her antagonistic younger sister became a writer. Finding herself falling in love with Gore, the narrator becomes the story, upending history.
As the story’s momentum builds into that of a spy thriller, Bradley pulls off a rare feat. “The Ministry of Time” is a novel that doesn’t stoop to easy answers and doesn’t devolve into polemic. It’s a smart, gripping work that’s also a feast for the senses. An assassination, moles, questions of identity and violence wreak havoc on our happy lovers and the bubble they create in London. Yet our affection for them is as fresh and thrilling as theirs is for one another, two explorers of a kind, caught in a brilliant discovery. Bradley’s written an edgy, playful and provocative book that’s likely to be the most thought-provoking romance novel of the summer. Check your history: That’s no small feat.

Delta Air Lines Stock (NYSE:DAL) Poised to Gain from Surging Travel Demand
April 30, 2024 — 09:53 pm EDT
Written by Nathan Reiff for TipRanks ->
Buoyed by a strong earnings report and optimistic forecasts earlier in the month, major air carrier Delta Air Lines ( NYSE:DAL ) appears to be poised to continue to benefit from renewed business in the commercial air travel space. The airline’s premium services offer a higher margin than other products, and it also stands to achieve strong loyalty-related sales while working to pay down pandemic debt .
All of these factors have prompted many analysts on Wall Street to bump up their price targets for DAL shares and name the stock a Buy. I agree with this bullish assessment and believe that Delta offers investors many reasons to get excited. We’ll take a closer look at several of them below.
DAL’s Earnings Momentum and Outlook
Early in April, Delta reported adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.45 on operating revenue of $12.6 billion for the first quarter of the year, a 6% increase over the prior-year quarter. Average analyst predictions for adjusted EPS for the period were $0.35, meaning that Delta significantly outperformed expectations.
Perhaps even more importantly, the company said that strong travel demand anticipated for future months could drive total revenue growth for the current quarter to 5-7% over what it was last year. This forecast—as well as the company’s full-year EPS outlook of $6 to $7—was also ahead of many analysts’ expectations.
Sunny Skies Ahead
What is behind Delta’s lofty forecasts for the coming months? The company pointed in its earnings report to a series of travel demand data points, including a 3% year-over-year improvement in domestic unit revenue and a whopping 14% increase in demand from corporate flyers. International travel has also bounced back from a pandemic-related low, as Delta noted 12% higher revenue in this area compared to last year’s March quarter.
Strong travel demand is a major factor in the success of Delta’s business, but it’s not the only one. The company must balance the total revenue it earns per available seat mile (an acronym known as TRASM) against the costs per available seat mile. TRASM for the most recent quarter was only up 1% year-over-year.
However, the cost per available seat mile actually declined by 6%, alongside the cost of airplane fuel. In total, these shifts helped increase Delta’s overall profitability.
Capturing the Premium Market
With a surge in corporate travel demand comes Delta’s plans to increase its premium-tier offerings. These include new technology available in some of its aircraft, luxury lounges in airports, and co-branded credit cards, including benefits.
The push toward premium may help Delta further differentiate itself from competitors, particularly at a time in which many consumers view airline “junk fees” (fees for extras such as seat selection) negatively. These services are catered toward business travelers as well as members of Delta’s SkyMiles rewards program and generally have a higher margin than similar services offered at a lower tier.
Delta says it will likely spend $5 billion annually to improve the travel experience for SkyMiles customers. This significant upfront investment may pay off, though, as the company continues to address concerns from customers upset by changes to the rewards program announced last September. These changes were subsequently revised following customer backlash.
Addressing Delta’s Pandemic-Related Debt
Like most airlines, Delta took on significant new debt as it dramatically curtailed operations during the early stages of COVID-19. However, the airline now finds itself in an enviable position relative to rivals. Delta CEO Ed Bastian has said he believes his firm will be the only profitable major airline during the first quarter.
With an estimated $3 billion to $4 billion in free cash flow for 2024, Delta could be well-positioned to reduce its debt levels. At a time in which some peers are still struggling to achieve profitability, this could allow Delta to claim an operational advantage lasting well into the future.
Is DAL Stock a Buy, According to Analysts?
Shares of DAL have climbed by 45% in the last year and have risen steadily since late October. Still, despite these significant gains, analysts believe there is still upside potential. The average DAL stock price target of $58.00 represents 15.8% upside potential. DAL stock is also rated as a Strong Buy across Wall Street based on 16 Buy ratings, zero holds, and zero sells.
The Takeaway: Delta Still Has Room to Soar
Coming off an earnings report for the first quarter that beat expectations in multiple ways, Delta still has room to grow. The company’s newly-raised outlooks for second-quarter and full-year EPS show that it has the potential to capitalize on surging travel demand. Additionally, its strategy to showcase high-margin premium services while working to ease the minds of its SkyMiles members could help accelerate growth.

Oklahoma man facing 12 years in Turks & Caicos prison released on bond, banned from travel
Ryan watson made bail a couple weeks after he was detained and arrested for ammo possession in turks & caicos. but he's not allowed to leave..
An American man facing 12 years in prison in Turks & Caicos after airport security found ammunition in his duffel bag won’t have to spend one more night in jail . For now.
Ryan Watson, 40, appeared before a court on Wednesday, agreeing to pay $15,000 to secure his release, according to a news alert from The Royal Turks & Caicos Islands Police Force.
The court granted Watson's release about two weeks after he was initially detained and arrested. He's being released with a slew of stipulations, including being prohibited from leaving the archipelago nation. He also had to surrender his passport and travel documents to the court, and needs to report to police twice a week as his case moves through the system.
His next court hearing is set for June 7.
Here’s what we know.
Why were Ryan and Valerie Watson detained in the Turks and Caicos?
Ryan and Valerie Watson were in Turks & Caicos to celebrate the 40th birthdays of several friends in early April, USA TODAY reported.
The couple was trying to catch a flight back home on April 12, when airport security found four rounds of ammunition “unknowingly left in a duffel bag from a deer hunting trip,” according to a GoFundMe post made on behalf of the family.
They were both questioned and subsequently charged with possession of ammunition, a charge that carries a minimum of 12 years in prison in Turks & Caicos.
The couple was stuck on the island without passports, unable to get back to their two young children, which left Valerie Watson “terrified.”
“We can't both be in prison for 12 years. We have kids at home," she told WBTS-TV in Boston "And this is such an innocent mistake that we ... didn't even know it was there. So yeah, my immediate thought was our kids and them being parentless for that long."
Ryan Watson maintains that it was a “bonehead mistake” on his part, not knowing that the ammunition rounds he typically uses to hunt whitetail deer were in his bag, the outlet reported.
Ultimately, the charges were dropped against Valerie Watson, who has returned to Oklahoma.
Oklahoma governor vouches for family: ‘Outstanding members of the community’
Days after the Watson family was detained, Republican Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt sent a letter to the Turks & Caicos Islands government in an attempt to get the home sooner.
“The Watsons are upstanding members of their community and the State of Oklahoma, and I can assure you countless others stand willing to confirm their high moral characters,” Stitt said.
He continued to say that the couple would never “intentionally break the law,” emphasizing the importance of having them return to Oklahoma so they can continue to serve the community, Valerie as a school teacher and Ryan as a medical product salesman.
And so that their children, Van and Ellie, don’t have to face another day without both parents, he said.
Family creates GoFundMe to bring Ryan Watson home
Close friends have created a GoFundMe on behalf of the Watson family to cover the costs of “mounting legal fees, living expenses, and the overwhelming stress of their situation.”
Valerie Watson said that the strain her family is under is tremendous, telling WBTS-TV that it could “ruin them.”
“We've already talked, and we're like, what if we lose our house? Which, when we moved to Oklahoma, we built a home that we thought was our forever home,” she said.
The sentiment was echoed by Ryan Watson, who says “this is something that we may never recover from.”
“The emotional and financial toll is immense, and they are at risk of losing everything,” the fundraiser description reads.
The GoFundMe had raised about $196,000 of the $250,000 goal by Friday night.
What happens next?
Valerie Watson and her children are awaiting her husband’s next court appearance, set for June 7.
Even though Ryan Watson “forgot” about the ammunition in his bag, he may not be able to leave the Turks & Caicos Islands without serving time. The government prohibits anyone, of status or origin, to possess a firearm, ammunition, or any other weapon.
There are exceptions to this, of course, but the court is still required to issue “both a sentence of imprisonment and a fine” that are in line with what the court would consider an “exceptional circumstance,” USA TODAY reported.
The Turks & Caicos government stiffened the penalties for firearm possession in February, noting that there were a handful of cases involving "exceptional circumstances" that allowed accused people to get away with paying a fine. “exceptional circumstances."
