Bell said it is "great to be back" for the Chelsea Flower Show.

Top Gear presenter to front new BBC road trip series

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Top Gear stars Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris will host a new travel show for the BBC.

McGuinness and Harris will travel Europe in a three-part docuseries titled Road Trippin' to reveal the secrets of living a long and full life. The duo will head to Sweden, Switzerland and Greece to interview some of the healthiest, happiest, long-lived people and learn from them while exploring new locations.

"I'm very much looking forward to getting back on the road with Chris Harris," McGuinness said.

"Not so much looking forward to sharing a confined space with him. He doesn't believe in deodorant. On the plus side, he'll give me something to laugh at along the way. Bring it on!"

Related: Zoe Ball supports Paddy McGuinness amid BBC Radio 2 presenter backlash

"Paddy's idea of long-haul travel is driving from Bolton to Blackpool, so this European road trip should be a real eye-opener for both of us," Harris said.

"When we're finished debating the merits of literally everything we encounter, viewers will hopefully take something rewarding away from our deep dive into the secrets of human longevity – but I'm just hoping my interest in the subject doesn't dwindle as each mile goes by in Paddy's company!"

The series is set to air on BBC One and will be available to stream on iPlayer, with broadcast details to be announced in due course.

Related: Paddy McGuinness says he's not in contact with Top Gear co-star Freddie Flintoff

Last month, McGuinness weighed in on the future of Top Gear after the show was put on hold for the "foreseeable future", with the news being confirmed following Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff's accident in December 2022.

"It's [the hiatus] what's been put out there by the BBC," McGuinness told Virgin Radio in April. "Top Gear hasn't been cancelled. It's just on hold at the minute while they get a few things in place.

"This isn't me being like an MP, it's what we know. So let's see what happens. We're all up for doing it, but it's just when the BBC feel it's right to do it again."

Road Trippin' will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Gardeners' World legend Monty Don is one of Britain's favourite horticulturists. The 68-year-old star has had a long and successful TV career, first appearing on our screens in 1989 as a regular on This Morning with his own gardening segment.

He took over from Alan Tichmarsh as the lead presenter of Gardeners' World in 2003 and has been helm of the show ever since, only taking a break between 2008 and 2011 due to a serious illness.

Monty had to stop working on the show he suffered a stroke at home, but didn't see a doctor until about a month later. He told The Guardian: "I turned to Sarah [his wife] and said 'Hold me because I think I'm dying and, if I am, I want to die in your arms'."

travel show presenters bbc

After visiting his GP, an MRI scan showed that Monty had a blockage in an artery in his brain. The doctor told him he had a mini-stroke.

He was also seriously ill with peritonitis while making the TV show Around the World in 80 Gardens in 2007. The potentially fatal disease is caused by an infection of the inner lining of the abdomen. He talked about it to Amateur Gardening Magazine, saying: "My wife found me collapsed. If she had not found me I would have died."

Monty has been married to Sarah Erskine since 1983. They have three children: two sons named Adam and Tom, and a daughter named Freya.

In terms of his wealth, popularnetworth.com said in 2022 he was worth between £786,000 and £3.9 million.

Sophie Raworth

Sophie Raworth is a senior newsreader and is one of the main presenters of BBC News. She also presents consumer affairs programme Watchdog, as well as Crimewatch.

Raworth married Richard Winter in 2003 and they live in Fulham, London with their two daughters and one son.

The broadcaster was taken to A&E following the London Marathon on April 21 when her ankle "blew up", forcing her to quit the race after running 20 miles. The 55-year-old shared videos of herself hobbling on her injured foot before sharing a photo in the hospital as she went for an X-ray.

Joe, 58, has been one of the main presenters on BBC Two's flagship gardening show Gardeners' World since 1998. He also regularly appears in the BBC's coverage of RHS Chelsea, Hampton Court, Gardeners' World Live and Tatton Park Flower shows.

He also presented on BBC's Small Town Gardens, and was a design judge on BBC's Gardener of the Year. Viewers may also remember his work as a presenter/designer on Take 3 Gardeners, with Cleve West and Ann-Marie Powell.

Away from his television work on Gardeners' World, he is the co-founder and Design Director of Modular Garden – a garden design and build company. He's not the only famous member of his family.

His father Clive was known to many as Richard Bucket, the long-suffering husband of Hyacinth, in the BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances. Clive also made two appearances in Doctor Who.

And Joe's uncle David played the newsreader Henry Davenport in the topical comedy Drop the Dead Donkey.

Angelica Bell

Angellica Bell is best known for her stint presenting on CBBC between 2000 and 2006. She is also known for providing occasional cover on The One Show and for co-presenting The Martin Lewis Money Show.

Bell, who started off her career as a roving reporter on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast in the late 1990s, married personal trainer Stuart Amory in January 2007. They divorced a year later.

Bell then began a relationship with her former BBC co-star Michael Underwood and they married in New York in December 2010. They have two children.

Nicki Chapman

Nicki Chapman is probably best known for being a judge on two ITV reality shows. She first graced the stage on Popstars, with Nigel Lythgoe and Paul Adam, before joining Simon Cowell, Pete Waterman and Neil Fox on Pop Idol.

She currently hosts Wanted Down Under, Escape to the Country and its spin-off shows. Nicki also regularly presents on BBC Radio 2 as a stand-in presenter.

Nicki Champman leans on a fence while filming a new series of Escape To The Country

Nicki is married to Dave 'Shacky' Shackleton, a music producer and Sony BMG executive. The couple live in Chiswick, London.

In 2019, Nikci revealed that she had undergone surgery after being diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumour. She later spoke out about the scary experience, saying: "I was nervous about the surgery and what the future might hold.

"There were some dark and difficult days. I was fortunate. I had successful surgery, recovered quickly and was back at work shortly afterwards, but only 13 per cent of adults survive for five years after being diagnosed with a brain cancer."

Subsequently, she was appointed an Ambassador for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show starts on Sunday, May 19. There will also be input and advice from Chelsea Flower Show's much-admired gardening experts too.

The confirmed line-up includes: Adam Frost, Rachel de Thame, Arit Anderson, Carol Klein, Mark Lane, Toby Buckland, James Wong, Sue Kent, Nick Bailey and Frances Tophill. There will also be guest appearances from Mary Berry, JJ Chalmers and Chris Bavin, who will be sharing their passion for gardening and all things RHS Chelsea. And Martin and Shirlie Kemp will be showing off their Hertfordshire garden.

BBC Breakfast viewers call for show shake-up after latest presenter change

Nina warhurst has been standing in as a main host this week.

Nicky Morris

BBC Breakfast viewers are calling for Nina Warhurst to become a permanent presenter on the show after she filled in for Naga Munchetty this week.

As the main business presenter, Nina usually appears in segments updating viewers on the nation's financial climate and sometimes steps in for the show's hosts when they're away.

The programme is fronted by Sally Nugent and Jon Kay from Monday to Wednesday, before Naga and Charlie Stayt take over from Thursday to Saturday – and fans are hoping Nina will join the line-up.

Charlie Stayt and Nina Warhurst

Friday's edition saw Nina chomp away on a sausage whilst interviewing a butcher called Gavin, who won a Guinness World Record for the most sausages made in one minute.

Fans were quick to react to the humorous segment, with one person writing: "@NinaWarhurst you are the best, eating a sausage live on air is brilliant. You need to be on the red sofa every morning. Love it."

A second viewer penned: "I love Nina on @BBCBreakfast she's a breath of fresh air. She dives straight in for a bite of the sausage. No bother and even asks for ketchup!! Love it."

MORE BBC BREAKFAST STARS

Others called for Nina to become a permanent fixture on the red sofa, with one person writing: "Nina is such a lovely human being. Give her more time on the couch. "

Nina Warhurst sat on BBC Breakfast sofa

Nina returned to the programme back in January after almost seven months away on maternity leave. The 43-year-old signed off in June last year before welcoming her third child, a baby girl named Nancy, the following month.

Upon her return, Nina said it was "lovely" to be back but admitted that she was missing her little girl at home. " I've missed the gang, I'm missing the baby this morning , very much but it's lovely to be back, best job in the world," she said. "And best baby in the world! I know everyone thinks their baby is the best one, but sorry guys, mine actually is."

Nina's new arrival was announced by her co-stars Sally and Jon on BBC Breakfast in July. Watch the moment in the clip below.

As well as Nancy, Nina is a doting mum to two boys: Digby, who arrived in 2016, and Michael, who was born two years later in 2018.

BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Nihal Arthanayake dropped bombshell news on Monday revealing he will be leaving his popular afternoon radio show - but he had some food news too

  • Updated 08:23, 21 May 2024

BBC Radio 5 Live fans have been left conflicted after host Nihal Arthanayake announced he is quitting his daytime show.

The 52-year-old radio host has worked for the BBC since 2002 when he first joined as a BBC Radio 1 host where he co-hosted the Asian Beats show. He then became a weekend breakfast show host on the radio channel in 2007 before being moved to a weekend afternoon slot the following year.

He began hosting BBC Radio 1's Review With Nihal in 2009 - while also hosting shows on the Asian Network from 2007. He left BBC Radio 1 in 2014 and began carving out a successful career on the airwaves from 2016 by helming discussion shows and panels.

He joined 5 Live in 2016 and has been helming the afternoon slot on the show that hits the air from 1pm until 4pm from Monday to Thursday. But now he is hanging up his afternoon microphone to seek out a new line of work.

Taking to X on Monday, Nihal dropped his bombshell on fans, with a post explaining: “Hello everyone, some professional news from me. I am leaving daytimes on @bbc5live to concentrate on the aspect of broadcasting I love most, which is in depth long form interviews, which I will continue to do on @bbc5live on Sunday evenings and the Headliners Podcast.
