I recently had the misfortune of dealing with Trip Mate, a travel insurance company that left me utterly disgusted and disappointed. I want to share my experience with others to prevent them from falling into the same trap. My ordeal with Trip Mate began when I needed to cancel a trip scheduled for March 2024, for which I had already paid the first installment of $2,800. Due to unforeseen circumstances, canceling the trip became a necessity. However, Trip Mate's response to my request for a refund was nothing short of infuriating. Firstly, it took over 2 months and three emails, to which no one ever replied with anything other than "we are processing your claim." Then, when I called over two months after submitting my claim, they insisted that I submit personal financial information even though the trip was more than 8 months away, which raised red flags for me. Why would they need such information in advance? It felt like an invasion of privacy. Things took a turn for the worse when Trip Mate demanded documentation to prove that someone in my party had lost their job in order to process the refund. This requirement seemed excessive and unreasonable, especially given the economic uncertainties many people face. My attempts to reason with their customer service representatives were met with sheer indifference. It was evident that they were following a scripted response, and it felt like they had zero empathy for my situation. After fruitless conversations with multiple agents, I requested to speak to a supervisor, hoping for a more understanding and flexible approach. To my dismay, the "supervisor" parroted the same unhelpful information, leaving me with the distinct impression that Trip Mate was more interested in keeping my money than assisting a loyal customer facing genuine hardship. Isn't this what you purchase travel insurance for???? So in order to take advantage of insurance I PURCHASED, I need to provide my very personal details and circumstances? THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE and TripMate should be absolutely ashamed of their policies. In summary, Trip Mate's actions, from the unnecessary personal information request to the demand for job loss documentation and the abysmal customer service, convinced me that this company is a scam. Their lack of empathy and unwillingness to address customer concerns are inexcusable. I strongly urge travelers to steer clear of Trip Mate, as their practices and attitude reflect a company that should be out of business. My experience with them was a nightmare, and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. JUST LOOK AT THEIR GOOGLE REVIEWS as well, it will tell you all you need to know!! lol

Took then from 7/5-7/21 to deny our claim, with no explanation or reasoning.

I REALLY want to give a ZERO!!! We paid for almost $8000 for a trip in August 2019 for our 35th wedding anniversary the following year August 2020. For the 1st time we paid for trip insurance (3rd party)! Finally after 3 years of attempts we were denied reimbursement. Instead sent 2 vouchers for another trip to Sandals, BUT we have to PAY upfront for another trip, THEN mail in said vouchers. HOW the hell do I know they'll pay me back after a second time???

TripMate does NOT cover expenses due to a flight crew not showing up. TripMate specifically covers weather delays, mechanical issues and unannounced strikes. If you flight delay is not one of these three specific reasons, you are not covered and get nothing.
