Teams left waiting to know 2023 WorldTour and ProTeam status
Israel-Premier Tech, B&B Hotels still in the dark as Uno-X hope for a Grand Tour place in 2023
The leading teams, race organisers and UCI officials will gather in Monte Carlo on Monday for the annual two-day WorldTour Forum, unsure exactly which teams have secured WorldTour status for 2023 and which ProTeams will have automatic invitations to the Grand Tours and Classics.
The WorldTour Forum should also see the UCI reveal details of any changes to the points awarded in races after the polemics of the last few months and the impact of racing for survival had on the sport.
New safety measures are also expected, possibly with an external company given responsibility for safety checks, while the debate about more long-term reforms of the sport for 2026 will begin.
Most teams have completed the annual registration process with the UCI and are planning for the 2023 season, but the future status of Israel-Premier Tech and the French B&B Hotels team is still to be decided, leaving them unsure at what level and in what races they will compete in 2023.
Sylvan Adams: WorldTour relegation is destructive to the sport Future of B&B Hotels in the dark as expected Cavendish announcement cancelled B&B Hotels manager insists he ‘has the people’ to back team in 2023
Cyclingnews understands that a number of teams travelled to Switzerland this week to appear before the UCI’s auditors PricewaterhouseCoopers and the UCI officials for final checks on the paperwork needed to secure WorldTour and ProTeam status.
Under UCI rules, teams have to submit most of their rider contracts, bank guarantees and other paperwork by October 15, with the auditors issuing their assessment on November 15. The UCI is only likely to confirm which teams have WorldTour and ProTeam status in mid-December, just a month before the Tour Down Under begins in Australia.
Teams that fail the initial assessment, as in the case of B&B Hotels, that are struggling to secure extra sponsorship to fund their planned step-up and expected signing of Mark Cavendish, face daily penalties and a last-minute appeals process.

Jérôme Pineau has had to ask for special dispensation from the UCI and the DNCG (the teams' regulatory body in France) for an extended final cut-off point of November 30 as he waits for a decision from at least two title sponsors.
Israel-Premier Tech and Lotto Soudal are set to be relegated from the WorldTour, with Alpecin-Deceuninck and Arkea-Samsic expected to take their place after finishing in the top 18 teams based on points scored during the last three seasons.
Lotto Soudal, which will be known as Lotto-Dstny in 2023, and TotalEnergies are expected to be the best-ranked ProTeams and so will secure automatic invitations to the 2023 Grand Tour and Classics. Israel-Premier Tech was ranked lower in 2022, and only appears to have obtained automatic invitations to the Classics.
However, Israel-Premier Tech team owner Sylvan Adams has promised to fight relegation and blasted the UCI and the WorldTour licence system in an interview with Cyclingnews and Velonews .
He is apparently still hoping the UCI will relent and allow 20 teams in the WorldTour for 2023-2025. If that is not the case, Israel-Premier Tech will be relegated to WorldTour status and will have to hope to secure a wildcard invitation to the Grand Tours and other races.
Scandinavian ProTeam Uno-X ranked 21st in 2022 but applied for WorldTour status anyway, are hoping to learn from the process in the future.
Team manager Jens Haugland revealed he travelled to Switzerland to make his pitch, believing Uno-X deserves at least an invitation to a Grand Tour in 2023.
“In 2023, we came 4th in the ProTeam ranking for the second consecutive year. I think that’s quite a performance from a newly established professional team based in Oslo with riders from Norway and Denmark only,” he wrote in a blog as he travelled.
“So one thing is the licence sporting criterion, another thing is getting a Grand Tour spot. I hope to see a system that ensures participation for Uno-X in a Grand Tour. Given our performances, identity and vision – we deserve it. I hope to see a system that ensures participation for Uno-X in a Grand Tour. We deserve it.”
Haugland highlighted how his team had satisfied all of the registration criteria bar the sporting results and ranking.
“In many ways, this is a review of who we are and what we aim to achieve. You might make fun of Uno-X applying for the licence when we are ranked 21. But it's five criteria, not one. At least we have made sure to comply 100% with the other four. If we don’t apply, we never get the chance to hear a yes. We learn the process. Because we will apply, apply, apply, and apply until we get the licence.
Scandinavian cycling deserves a spot on the big stage. It might not happen yet, but it will. With a WorldTour team for both women and men.”

The new 2023 men’s WorldTour jerseys are starting to be unveiled with some new designs and some copy paste efforts from 2022. For the first time in a while (maybe the first time properly), we’ve had some promotion and relegation from the men’s WorldTour. As such the likes of Israel-Premier Tech who have released their jersey, can’t be found on this page. However, the likes of Alpecin-Deceuninck and Team Arkéa-Samsic will be able to be seen here once they have released their new designs.
Table of Contents
As the WorldTour teams release their kits, I shall keep this page updated to include all of them. Traditionally EF Education-EasyPost is the last to announce theirs, with the hype and secrecy that goes with that final position as a result. Last year they kept it very under wraps until they accidentally leaked it just a day before the proper announcement.

Our guide to the latest and greatest race bike tech from this years UCI World Championships in Glasgow

The 2023 UCI World Championships are underway, and it's a particularly big year for pro bike tech, especially inside the velodrome. With Paris 2024 looming ever closer, the Glasgow World Championships mark the deadline for track bikes due to be battling it out for gold medals to make a public appearance.
Add to that arguably the biggest road bike release of the year, the Specialized Tarmac SL8 , and the asphalt outlook is just as bustling as on the boards.
So what are the headlines so far? Here's our pick of the bunch.
2023 World Championship bikes: Road Bikes
Fred wright's merida reacto.
As a member of the Bahrain Victorious World Tour team, Fred Wright has the choice of two Merida race bikes: the Scultura and the Reacto. More often than not though, the classics specialist will be found on the brand's aero bike, and it was no different in the men's road race last weekend.
The British National road race champion is powered by the latest and greatest Dura-Ace r9270, and uses the ever more common setup of a 54/40 chainring setup at the front, and an 11-34 cassette at the rear.
It's down by the cassette though that things get a little less standard than the average Merida Reacto.
The rear mech hangar is fitted with a 3D printed insert, which looks like it is designed to keep the Di2 cable out of harm's way of what is a pretty sharp-edged derailleur hangar.
There is also an intriguing insert just inside the chain stay, which looks to be a custom-fabricated chain catcher - we took a deeper dive into the 3D-printed parts on Fred Wright's bike , and think there could be more to it than just avoiding dropped chains.
It's a sleek front end on Wright's bike too, with fully internal cable routing being taken care of by the Vision Metron 5D bar and stem. This angle shows too that Wright does slightly turn in his hoods to get a little bit narrower on his 40cm handlebars.
Lizzie Deignan's Trek Emonda SLR
Lizzie Deignan is still searching for her first victory of 2023 - as she builds on her return to racing after welcoming her second child - and eyes will certainly be on her at this year's World Championships .
Riding with Lidl-Trek at trade team races means Deignan has the choice between the Trek Emonda and the American brand's aero bike, the Madone. For this punchy course, however, the 2015 World Champion looks to have opted for the lighter-weight option.
Like the rest of the Lidl-Trek squad, Deignan uses a SRAM Red AXS groupset , with 50/37 chainrings up front, and a 10-32 cassette at the rear. 50t may sound on the small side for a World Tour pro, but due to the smaller 10t sprocket at the back, the 50-10 gear is actually slightly larger than a 54-11, which many Shimano-sponsored teams are using.
The Bontrager Aoelus RSL 51 wheelset brings this climbing bike to the all-round market, providing some aero gains for the British classics specialist. Deignan has opted for tubeless Pirelli P Zero race tyres in a 28mm width, a smart choice for the slick roads that put Mathieu van der Poel in difficulty at the weekend .
Luke Plapp's Pinarello F
The Australian road race champion and Ineos Granadier Luke Plapp has a pretty special custom Pinarello F . A dazzling white frame is complemented by sleek yellow and green lines on the fork, a subtle hint to Plapp's success back in his home country.
Pinarello's F frameset isn't the lightest at a claimed 996 grams for a size 56, but it is aero, which certainly suits Plapp's riding style. A younger rider, at just 22-years-old, Plapp has certainly jumped on the narrow-bar bandwagon, riding a 140x360mm setup.
These bars aren't for sale, and the Australian team mechanics confirmed to us that Most, Pinarello's component division, has custom made these bars for Plapp - quite the champion's privilege.
Plapp also rides a Fizik Argo Adaptive, which is the Italian brand's line of saddles made using a 3D printing manufacturing process. Besides looking cool, this saddle also weighs a claimed 196 grams, with full carbon fibre rails.
Groupset duties are handled by Shimano, and just like the rest of his Ineos Grenadiers team mates, he is riding the full compliment of Shimano Dura-Ace r9270 - wheels included.
Plapp opts for a 54/40t chainring setup at the front, alongside an 11-34 cassette at the rear, giving him a large gear range for the tough climbs around Glasgow.
Gripping the road is handled by Continental, specifically GP5000 TR setup tubeless in a 28mm diameter.
Cédrine Kerbaol
As the reigning French ITT National Champion, Kerbaol’s Orbea Ordu OMX is custom painted accordingly. But the eye-catching colour scheme is far from the only noteworthy detail.
It's an interesting setup from a position point of view. Relatively high bars at the front are coupled with a saddle position which is slammed all the way back - a fit philosophy that aims to achieve a high, yet narrow stance on the bike.
A super aggressive looking head tube and single extention support finish off this low profile front end.
Cable routing is all pretty neat too on the new Ordu, with the junction box being hidden discretely down towards the bottom bracket.
Kerbaol rides a Dura-Ace r9270 groupset, but there are a couple of deviations from the Japanese component brand. An FSA Powerbox power meter can be found at the bottom bracket, complete with carbon cranks and a 56t Vision chainring.
The drivetrain is polished off elegantly with a KMC DLC 12 speed chain in red, a stylish touch to a blinged out bike.
2023 World Championship bikes: Track bikes
Team gb's hope x lotus .
After a horror crash that left Team GB with an Olympic headache in the first round of qualifying, we weren't able to get any pictures from the velodrome of the new bike, but we do have pictures from the bike's launch, and they are certainly worth a look.
The second generation Hope x Lotus track bike builds on the foundations of the bike that was raced to 3 Gold Medals in Tokyo 2020 - but there are still some interesting changes.
The ultra-wide fork legs and seat stays both make another appearance in the new Hope x Lotus bike, but the bike now has an alien-looking split seat post design. We went into more detail about the reasons behind the strange design when the bike was first released just over a week ago.
The handlebars too are new for 2023. In the new design, the bars account for any stack from the head tube to the top of the bars, as opposed to using a generic stem. This, we think, is in the name of stiffness as the the whole setup can be formed from one carbon fibre component.
Chloe Dygert's Canyon Speedmax CFR Track
German bike giant Canyon is claiming the new Speedmax CFR Track is the fastest bike they have ever made, and it's already been ridden to a win by now nine-time World Champion Chloe Dygert in the individual pursuit .
In collaboration with Swiss Side , the frameset has undergone 442 supercomputer computational fluid dynamic runs, 312 wind tunnel analyses, and 155 hours of real-world track testing. Interestingly, the result is a somewhat tamer design at the rear seat stays, when compared to the Team GB Hope x Lotus track bike .
Eight-time World Championship gold medallist and current US champ on the road Chloe Dygert was heavily involved in the design process, helping to evaluate prototypes alongside the Danish national track cycling team , who know a thing or two about quick team pursuits.
The Development Lead for the new Speedmax CFR Track bike Lukas Schuchnigg told us: "The velodrome demands perfection, and our collaboration with professional track cyclists was crucial to achieving that".
Team France's Look P24
The French Track Cycling Team has been using an unreleased track bike this week in the Chris Hoy Velodrome, and it's decidedly strange in appearance.
Two seat posts can be found at the rear of the bike, along with super wide fork legs and seat stays front and rear which bare some resemblance to the Lotus x Hope bike used by Team GB.
This photo of the rear end tells a more descriptive story of the 'seat mast' design, which Cycling Weekly understands is an effort to hide both seat stays and seat posts in the wake of the rider's legs, therefore reducing drag.
Though the front end profile looks pretty similar to the Team GB bike, there are some differences - most notably a more conventional head tube, and only single crown fork.
We were lucky enough to get hands-on with the Look P24 , which had us gasping at the sheer weight of the bike. Although the mechanics didn't allow us to put a number to this metric, the bike felt in excess of 9kg, presumably to keep it stiff enough for some of the world's best sprinters.

Race facing €6.9 million lawsuit after crash that shortened Nacer Bouhanni's career
N acer Bouhanni and his former Arkéa-B&B Hotels team are demanding €6.9 million in damages from the Tour of Turkey, following the French sprinter's 2022 crash with a spectator that saw him break his neck.
The incident took place on stage two of the eight-stage UCI 2.Pro-ranked event, when the bunch careered into an unsuspecting spectator who was walking in the road.
Despite the crash taking place relatively early in the season, Frenchman Bouhanni did not race again in 2022. He returned in 2023, but with neck issues still plaguing him, he did not recover winning form, only managing four top-10s during the whole season. He retired at the end of 2023, aged 33.
Bouhanni has told French sports outlet L'Equipe that he still has physio on his neck every week and that he estimated the crash had shortened his career by three years.
The rider is seeking €2.7 million in damages from the Tour of Turkey's organisers, the Turkiye Bisiklet Feradasyonu (Turkish Cycling Federation), while the Arkéa team wants €4.2 million to make up for what it says is loss of income.
Bouhanni's lawyer argues that the accident would not have happened if the race organisation had adhered to the UCI's standards, while Arkéa team manager Emanuel Hubert said that the team had “lost a lot of points because Nacer was out for so long”.
Bouhanni turned pro with the French FDJ team in 2011, having completed a stint with the team as a stagiaire the year before, and started winning almost immediately, picking up a stage victory in the Tropicale Amissa Bongo in the January.
He had arguably the best year of his career in 2014, when he won stages in the Vuelta a España and the Giro d'Italia , and also picked up the Giro points jersey.
But Bouhanni's tangles with controversy made as many headlines as his wins, with much made of his lifelong practice of boxing. In 2016 he missed the Tour de France after breaking a bone in his hand during a fight with drunken revellers at a hotel, while his no-holds-barred sprinting style proved frequently problematic – in 2021, for example, he was disqualified and suspended for two months for pushing Jake Stewart into the barriers at Cholet-Pays de Loire, while at the Tour de France in 2017, FDJ rider Jacopo Guarnieri was moved to say: "He's a d**k, he's always making people crash. We know he's like that. He's probably upset with us because he always loses."
Bouhanni has also suffered his share of wrongs – he was subjected to "hundreds" of racist messages after the Jake Stewart incident and had to withdraw from the Scheldeprijs one-day race as a result.

2024 NHL Playoffs bracket: Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule, start times, TV channels
The bruins have advanced to the second round, and one more game 7 remains on sunday night.
The Boston Bruins are advancing to the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs after once again defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs in a Game 7. On Saturday night, David Pastrnak scored in overtime to send Boston through to the next round and send Toronto packing.
The Maple Leafs and Bruins played to a 1-1 tie through three periods, and Toronto was one shot away from getting a playoff gorilla off its back. However, it was an all too familiar story for the Maple Leafs as Pastrnak zoomed into the zone, picked up a loose puck and beat Ilya Samsonov for the game-winner. Now, the Bruins will take on the Panthers in the second round.
While the conference semifinals do start Sunday, with the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes facing off, there is still one more first-round matchup that needs to be decided. The Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars will play Game 7 on Sunday night after Vegas kept the series alive with a Game 6 win at T-Mobile Arena. The winner of that game will advance to play the Colorado Avalanche.
The structure of the playoffs is as follows:
- The division winner with the most points in each conference will face the second Wild Card team in the first round. The division winner with fewer points in each conference will match up with the top Wild Card team in the first round.
- Each series will be a best-of-seven format.
- Home-ice advantage goes to the team with the top seed in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The team with the most points in the regular season has home-ice advantage in the conference finals and Stanley Cup Final.
Below is how you can follow each series in the first round along with updating results and scores from each game. Bookmark this page for the duration of the playoff run to stay up to date with everything on the ice.
