98 G. Voyager timing?

I had my water pupm replaced now my van runs like ****. There is no power. I had to fight to keep it at 60 on the highway. It sounds like there is a hole in the exaust or something. I dont know exactly where to go from here. The guy told me if he messed something up he will fix it, i just have to find out what is wrong. If one of the shafts were off would i be getting this? And if i put a light on it what should i be getting if nothing is wrong? Are there timing marks on each camshaft? Any help would be appriciated  

sounds like the timing isnt set right..... the top gear timing mark points at 6oclock...crank gear at 12 oclock ...on a 3.3L  

I have the 3.0. do you know waht the timing is supposed to be at. I will be getting a light tomorrow.  

Yep, the guy messed up the timing belt while changing the pump, which is run off the timing belt. He will have to go into the engine again to set the valve timing according to the factory procedure for lining the belt up. You may want to replace the belt too if you did not.  

The belt was replaced. Do all the The pullies have timing marks on them and if so is lining them up all that has to be done?  

Most likely. I wouldn't be surprised if one pulley jumped a tooth while installing the belt as it has heppened before, and is likely to happen again.  

Would one tooth really make it run that bad? I appriciate the help i will email the guy tomorrow. will it hurt to drive the van?  

Yeah I would think one tooth could make it that bad. I wouldn't drive the van around for normal day stuff, but it should be fine to drive back to the mechanic. You could just have him check the ignition timing before you pull it apart, but it is unlikely that that is the problem.  

So puting the timing light on it will not tell me wheter that is the problem?  

It will tell you that the ignition timing is wrong, which I remembered that it could be on a 3.0. Wrong timing can cause issues, but I still think you most likely have a timing belt issue. A timing light will not tell you of a timing light problem, but a compression test will.  

It might not be of much relevance, but I replaced the head gasket on my Saab 9000, and got the timing chain one tooth off on one of the camshafts, and it had 1/3 of the normal power and it coughed and hiccuped and wheezed like an asthmatic 90 year old. I'd say its pretty crucial to get the timing exactly right. Sounds to me like your timing belt is off.  

I actually had the timing adjusted back in feb. The mechnic said it was off by 3 degrees. So all i have to do is line up the marks on the cams and put the belt on. I was reading and it said to turn the engine by 2 full turns to see where it lines up after that.  

My other question, Is my engine an interference engine>? I have heard once the timing on an interference engine gets messed up the engine is all but done.  

Even if it was, if the cam timing is close enough to run it, the engine is fine and did not kill itself. The problem with interference engines is when the belt breaks while the engine is running.  

Thanks i was worried. The guy who did the pump will be fixing it on sunday.

Ivan Tune on a "stock" Vaquero or Voyager

Greetings! I recently acquired a gently used 2020 Vaquero. Looking at getting Ivan-ized fairly soon. Most of the reviews here are from folks that have also upgraded the intake and exhaust, but am wondering if anyone has some feedback on the results of an Ivan-tune on an otherwise stock bike?

It is the best 350$ you will ever spend. It has been my experience that a stock air box is more than enough with Ivan's tunes. Study his dyno results and you will find expensive air box mods add very little for the money you spend. After looking at power gains Wide open air boxes allow a small increase in air, but you loose the air stability of a large air box. A high flow filter is about all you need there. So my set up is simple, I get between 48-50 mpg and picked up substantial HP Gains and 112 ft lbs. of torque. I normally ride back roads and run them between 45-65MPH in the twisters. The best part is the torque comes on at 19-2000 rpms and is full on by 2500 RPM. I can cruise two up with my wife and run 75-85mph all day long. Long story short. Ride you bike a little while as is. Thanks for the advice, Dshrek49! I did some digging on V&H pipes. All the "part finders" only show availability for the earlier years, but since the Vaquero has been unchanged since the Jurassic era I'm guessing they should fit? The Vance & Hines part number I think should work is 18371 - wondering if anyone can confirm that! Also - looks like the quiet baffles are universal?  

Had mine done this week, sent it out Friday afternoon and it was returned to me in less than a week.It totally changed the machine for the better, throttle response, quicker acceleration, greatly reduced shudder,the way it should have been from the factory.  

My 2016 voyager I bought new is bone stock exhaust and air box. I Ivanized at the 2000 mile mark and so glad I did. Completely new bike....runs smoother, cooler and no pop on decel. Single best mod I will ever do to my bike. Congrats

Just incase you haven't synchronized your throttle position, I have found that is important in Ivan's tunes for a smooth transition from idle to roll on. The steps are simple; take all the tension off the two cables, next take up the slack on the throttle closed side first. Rock the throttle 2 or three times to make sure you hear it close. Lock that cable down. Finally, take up the slack on the throttle opening side. adjust it so free play is between 2-3 MM (closer to 2MM), or about 1/8 inch. This takes out all in appropriate slack and makes sure the throttle is fully closed when it is supposed to be closed; and it opens promptly when you roll on the throttle. Last adjust the idle to approximately 950 (+- 50rpm) RPM. (each click is worth 50 rpm, up or down). You can use a shop tachometer if you wish, I used the one on the bikes electronic screen I found them to read the same number. First Warm up the engine for about 10 minutes and adjust the idle speed to 0. Next add two 50 rpm clicks( This was just about perfect for me came in about 925-950). Note: This is an electronic adjustment on the digital screen. If you need Instructions/Procedures, they can be found on page 2-17 in the Vaquero/Voyager Service Manual. Ivan has taken care of all else in the tune he placed in the ECU. This procedure takes his tune and synchronizes the requirements to assure the throttle is closed totally when it is rolled clockwise, and begins to open promptly when you roll it open; (counter clockwise). You never know what some service tech or local mechanic might have done to correct previous throttle issues. The real issues can only be fixed in the ECU and IVAN is one of the best. Ive been thinking about this too. I just have slipons..everything else is stock. Im actually shocked Kaw hasnt put out a re-flash for the Voyager/Vaquero models. It is ridiculously jerky..and the engine temps is what really gets me. Might just have to break down and send my ECU to him as well.  

OEM ECU is way dumbed down lean out the factory to stay well within omission guidelines EPA. Ivan fixes all that. Best $350 I ever spent.  

I personally believe the Ivan ECU treatment is the 1st and best MOD you should do.  

Freedom Performance or V&H Pipes and a seat should be in number 2 and 3 position.  

Had it done to a stock 09 Nomad. DO IT!! you will not regret it. i promise.  

Engraving will read "C4B X " on the back of your ECU**; the most current tune for all models is "C4B3".  

I also have the 2020 Vaquero and I put Sharkroad 4inch slip ons and I got a lot of exhaust popping and backfiring especially on deceleration before I had Ivan do his thing. I didn’t go with the quiet baffles because if you don’t hammer the throttle to hard it doesn’t seem to loud to me and I like the sound. The Ivan’s tuning made all the difference from torque to throttle response. I also changed the stock seat to a Mustang seat with the drivers back rest along with changing the windshield. Enjoy your ride.

I’ll confirm what’s been stated above, had my ecu done by Ivan on my 2017 Vaquero. I sent it on Wednesday and had it back on Saturday, great service. I had one question about disconnecting the O2 sensor, called and Ivan helped me out. He does want the O2 sensor disconnected, which I did and zip tied the plug to the brake line. I’m a happy camper.  

Anyone have any idea how to tell whether the uses 2018 vaquero I'm buying has had the ivans rune done or not? I'm buying from a dealer and not sure they would know. Think Ivan would have a list of the vins he's done work on? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro  

The only sure way is to pull the ECU and check it to see if it has Ivan's engraving code and / or his sticker on it.

Personally, I would not spend a minute of time or a single dollar on a tuner box/power commander. I've had both. It's not even close. Ivan's for the win.

How do I get from Moscow airports to the city center?

Moscow with its more than twelve million inhabitants has three international airports. The best known is Sheremetyevo (international abbreviation SVO), which is 35 km northwest of Red Square. Russia’s largest airline Aeroflot has its hub here. The second largest airport, Domodedovo (international abbreviation DME), is about 45 km south-east of the center, from where the S7 airline, which mainly flies within Russia, and numerous international airlines such as Lufthansa take off and land. Finally, there is the third largest airport called Moscow-Wnukovo (abbreviation VKO), which serves numerous low-cost airlines such as Pobeda and is the closest to Moscow city center at just under 30 km.

Aeroexpress to the city center

First the good news – all three airports are easy to reach, both by taxi and by public transport such as train and bus. All three airports are connected to the Moscow city center by means of the so-called Aeroexpress. The Aeroexpress is certainly the most popular and the easiest way for foreigners to get to the center of Moscow. With the striking red signs Aeroexpress, you can find the way to the express trains both at Moscow’s three major airports and at the respective departure stations.

The modern, wifi-equipped trains from the private provider have little in common with the city railway trains from the Russian capital, which still originate from the Soviet era, and run to all three airports from early morning until after midnight. The schedule varies from airport to airport and time of day. As a rule of thumb, trains go to Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo every half an hour during the day to and from the airport, while Wnukowo is only served hourly for much of the day.

The same pricing scheme applies to all three airports: at 300 rubles (around $ 4.50) for a one-way trip, the prices for the trip are significantly more expensive than regular public transport tickets in Moscow, but are still affordable. Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo are each around 35 minutes from the center, and Domodedovo Airport is 45 minutes away.

If you buy the ticket in advance or via the app, there is a 50 ruble discount, further discounts are available if you book a return trip with one ticket, which costs 600 rubles (around $ 8.50). When it comes to value for money, the Aeroexpress trains are certainly the best option as a solo traveler. Especially since bypassing the often treacherous Moscow traffic – in the rush hour a drive by car can take an hour longer than previously estimated.

The biggest disadvantage is that you can of course not go directly to the desired destination within Moscow. However, all three Aeroexpress trains take you to one of the major Moscow train stations, which in turn are connected to the ring line of the Moscow Metro, from where you can quickly reach all corners of the center of Moscow.

In the city or to the airport by taxi app

Alternatively, the transport from and to the airport can also be regulated using the taxi app. Yandex-Taxi and Gett are the two most popular providers in Moscow. At Yandex the flat rate to all three international airports currently costs 1100 rubles ($ 16) and at Gett even only 950 rubles ($ 14) in the cheapest variant, with a small car of the size VW Polo or Ford Focus.

Unless you want to go to the airport with too much luggage or with more than two people, this is certainly the easiest method. Moderate surcharges are required for larger vehicle categories. Without knowledge of Russian, however, it would be much easier to get to the airport by taxi app than from the airport to the city. Due to the confusing location in front of the three major airports, it may be necessary to contact the driver by phone to find the right vehicle. Because the GPS signal of the respective app only gives the location with an accuracy of about ten to fifteen meters – with several lanes running side by side in front of the terminal and dozens of waiting passengers and arriving taxis, it is certainly not always easy to find yourself straight away.

If you are still dependent on the WiFi of the airport building and therefore must not move too far from the entrance, the whole thing could prove to be difficult. From the city to the airport, however, the taxi app without knowledge of Russian proves to be the much easier method. The hotel or AirBnB address can be entered as the pick-up location, and a taxi can usually be ordered within a few minutes.

With the classic taxi into the city

If you want to drive into the city by regular taxi, you have to expect considerable additional costs. The website of Domodedovo airport gives 2,000 rubles as a guide for a trip to the center, i.e. just $ 28. Trips to and from Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo should be a little cheaper. As with the taxi apps, the following also applies here: Especially at rush hour, you should probably prefer the train because Moscow’s streets burst at the seams in the after-hours traffic.

Bus metro combination

For experienced travelers to Russia or visitors with a particularly tight budget, there is still the option of all three airports to get to the nearest metro station by bus or Marshrutka (mini-bus with a fixed route but flexible stops).

From Vnukowo, for example, the 45M minibus line goes to the Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station on the red line № 1 of the Moscow Metro, for just 150 rubles. Together with the 62 rubles ticket for the metro, you can get into the city for just over $ 3.

Sheremetyevo Airport can be reached from the Rechnoy Vokzal metro station on Marshrutka line 949 for 80 rubles, or from Planernaya metro station with Marshrutka 948 for 80 rubles ($ 1.1). The minibuses run approximately every 15 minutes. Domodedovo Airport is connected by express bus to the metro station of the same name every half hour. The fare here is 150 rubles (a good 2,1 $). However, complications must be expected with this transport route – the bus drivers in Moscow usually only speak Russian. Taking the metro or minibuses with luggage is not always comfortable. However, you can save money, especially as a solo traveler.

Hush money trial judge raises threat of jail as he finds Trump violated gag order, fines him $9K

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump was held in contempt of court Tuesday and fined $9,000 for repeatedly violating a gag order that barred him from making public statements about witnesses, jurors and some others connected to his New York hush money case. If he does it again, the judge warned, he could be jailed.

Prosecutors had alleged 10 violations, but New York Judge Juan M. Merchan found there were nine. Trump stared down at the table in front of him as the judge read the ruling, frowning slightly.

It was a stinging rebuke of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s insistence that he was exercising his free speech rights and a reminder that he’s a criminal defendant subject to the harsh realities of trial procedure. And the judge’s remarkable threat to jail a former president signaled that Trump’s already precarious legal standing could further spiral depending on his behavior during the remainder of the trial.

Merchan wrote that he is “keenly aware of, and protective of,” Trump’s First Amendment rights, “particularly given his candidacy for the office of President of the United States.”

“It is critically important that defendant’s legitimate free speech rights not be curtailed, that he be able to fully campaign for the office which he seeks and that he be able to respond and defend himself against political attacks,” Merchan wrote.

Still, he warned that the court would not tolerate “willful violations of its lawful orders and that if necessary and appropriate under the circumstances, it will impose an incarceratory punishment.”

With that statement, the judge drew nearer the specter of Trump becoming the first former president of the United States behind bars.

“This gag order is totally unconstitutional,” Trump said as court adjourned after a day that included testimony from a Hollywood lawyer who negotiated two of the hush money deals at issue in the case. “I’m the Republican candidate for president of the United States ... and I’m sitting in a courthouse all day long listening to this stuff.”

Trump is used to having constant access to his social media bullhorn to slam opponents and speak his mind. After he was banned from Twitter following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol by his supporters , Trump launched his own platform, where his posts wouldn’t be blocked or restricted. He has long tried to distance himself from controversial messages he’s amplified to his millions of followers by insisting they’re “only retweets.”

But he does have experience with gag orders , which were also imposed in other legal matters. After he was found to have violated orders in his civil fraud trial, he paid more than $15,000 in fines.

Trump also is subject to a gag order in his federal criminal election interference case in Washington. That order limits what he can say about known or reasonably foreseeable witnesses in the case and about court staff and other lawyers, though an appeals court freed him to speak about special counsel Jack Smith, who brought the case.

Tuesday’s ruling in New York came at the start of the second week of testimony in the historic case, which involves allegations that Trump and his associates took part in an illegal scheme to influence the 2016 presidential campaign by purchasing and then burying seamy stories. The payouts went to a doorman with a torrid yarn; ex-Playboy model Karen McDougal, who had accusations of an affair; and to porn performer Stormy Daniels, who alleged a sexual encounter with Trump. He has pleaded not guilty and says the stories are all fake.

Trump deleted, as ordered, the offending posts from his Truth Social account and campaign website and has until Friday to pay the fine. The judge was also weighing other alleged gag-order violations by Trump and will hear arguments Thursday. He also announced that he will halt the trial on May 17 to allow Trump to attend his son Barron’s high school graduation.

Of the 10 posts, the one Merchan ruled was not a violation came on April 10, a post referring to witnesses Michael Cohen and Daniels as “sleaze bags.” Merchan said Trump’s contention that he was responding to previous posts by Cohen “is sufficient to give” him pause on whether the post was a violation.

Merchan cautioned that the gag order “not be used as a sword instead of a shield by potential witnesses” and that if people who are protected by the order, like Cohen, continue to attack Trump “it becomes apparent” they don’t need the gag order’s protection.

Cohen, Trump’s former attorney, has said he will refrain from commenting about Trump until after he testifies. On Tuesday, he said in a text message to The Associated Press: “Judge Merchan’s decision elucidates that this behavior will not be tolerated and that no one is above the law.”

In other developments, testimony resumed Tuesday with a banker who helped Cohen open accounts, including one used to buy Daniels’ silence. Trump’s attorneys have suggested that the payments were aimed at protecting his name and his family — not influencing the outcome of the presidential election.

Jurors also began hearing from Keith Davidson , a lawyer who represented McDougal and Daniels in their negotiations with the National Enquirer and Cohen. He testified that he arranged a meeting at his Los Angeles office during the summer of 2016 to see whether the tabloid’s parent company American Media, Inc. was interested in McDougal’s story. At first they demurred, saying she “lacked documentary evidence of the interaction,” Davidson testified.

But the tabloid at the behest of publisher David Pecker eventually bought the rights, and Davidson testified that he understood — and McDougal preferred — it would never be published. Asked why American Media Inc., would buy a story it didn’t intend to run, Davidson said he was aware of two reasons.

“One explanation I was given is they were trying to build Karen into a brand and didn’t want to diminish her brand,” he said. “And the second was an unspoken understanding that there was an affiliation between David Pecker and Donald Trump and that AMI wouldn’t run this story, any story related to Karen, because it would hurt Donald Trump.”

As for Daniels, the October 2016 leak of Trump’s 2005 “Access Hollywood” tape — in which Trump bragged about grabbing women sexually without asking permission — had “tremendous influence” on the marketability of her story. Before the video was made public, “there was very little if any interest” in her claims, Davidson told jurors.

A deal was reached with the tabloid for Daniels story, but the Enquirer backed out. Though Pecker testified that he had agreed to serve as the Trump campaign’s “eyes and ears” by helping to squelch unflattering rumors and claims about Trump and women, he drew the line with Daniels after paying out $180,000 to scoop up and sit on stories. Davidson began negotiating with Cohen directly, hiked up the price to $130,000, and reached a deal.

But Daniels and Davidson grew frustrated as weeks passed and instead of the money, she got excuses from Cohen about broken computers, Secret Service “firewalls” and the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

“I thought he was trying to kick the can down the road until after the election,” Davidson said.

While Cohen never explicitly said he was negotiating the deal on Trump’s behalf, Davidson felt the implication was clear.

“Every single time I talked to Michael Cohen, he leaned on his close affiliation with Donald Trump,” Davidson said. Plus, he figured that Trump “was the beneficiary of this contract.”

The GOP presidential hopeful is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with the hush money payments. The detailed evidence on business transactions and bank accounts is setting the stage for testimony from Cohen, who went to federal prison after pleading guilty in 2018 to campaign finance violations and other crimes.

The trial — the first of Trump’s four criminal cases to come before a jury — is expected to last for another month or more.
