Individually, they're Devon Allman and Duane Betts, two solo artists and modern-day guitar heroes who've both spent years creating their own version of American roots music. Together, they're the leaders of The Allman Betts Band, a supergroup anchored by sharp songwriting, fiery fretwork, and an historic legacy. Inspired by the classic sounds of the group's family tree, The Allman Betts Band makes timeless rock & roll for the modern world, blurring the boundaries between blues, Americana, and southern soul. Critically-acclaimed studio albums like Down to the River and Bless Your Heart have established the band's own legacy of music and brotherhood, while hundreds of live shows — including annual performances of the all-star Allman Betts Family Revival — have sharpened the group's chemistry onstage. There's a richly historic lineage to The Allman Betts Band, but these musicians proudly live in the modern world, carving out a contemporary soundtrack for the American South.

Allman Betts Band Announce 2019 Tour
By Jeff Gage
The sons of Allman Brothers Band royalty, Devon Allman and Duane Betts, are embarking on their first world tour in 2019 under the auspices of their new collaboration — the Allman Betts Band — with an exhaustive slate of more than 60 dates.
This year is one of milestones for the Southern rock families, marking not only the 50th anniversary of the Allman Brothers but the 30th anniversary of the younger Allman and Betts first playing together themselves. Devon is the son of the late Gregg Allman , while Duane’s father is Dickey Betts . Together with Berry Duane Oakley, the son of founding ABB bassist Berry Oakley, the group will play theaters across the country as well as 10 major festivals, including Mountain Jam in Bethel, New York, and Ramblin’ Man Fair in the United Kingdom. The tour kicks off March 27th at the Brooklyn Bowl in New York City.
News of the tour follows a series of debut gigs for the new project in 2018, which followed on the heels of a tribute show that Allman staged for his father at the Fillmore in San Francisco at the end of 2017. The Allman Betts Band will release their first LP, Down to the River , later this year.

Entertainment | allman betts band at the fillmore detroit, 5 things to know.
The group is led by Devon Allman, son of the late Gregg Allman, and Duane Betts, whose father, Allman Brothers Band co-founder Dickey Betts, passed away on April 18. The group also includes bassist Berry Duane Oakley, whose namesake father did the same in the Allman Brothers, and recently added Alex “Orbi” Orbison, son of the late Roy Orbison, on drums.
That’s a lot of musical history, which Allman Betts pays homage to with a few songs at each of its shows. But the group is just as if not more interested in its own music; Allman Betts has released two studio albums of its own — “Down to the River” in 2019 and “Bless Your Heart” the following year — while Allman and Betts also have solo careers. Like their fathers, they’re following a road that goes on forever, and wouldn’t have it any other ways.
* Betts, 46, says he’s “holding up” since his dad’s death and acknowledges that now having both of their fathers gone gives he and Allman a greater sense of mission in what they do. “It is really important to me to play the music and show respect to their music, because it really is something precious. Now that he’s gone it changes it a little more. He had kinda been in poor health for awhile, so I was already playing for him and getting a lot of inspiration thinking about him and what his legacy means to me, personally. So now that he’s moved on to the next level it just kind of puts the exclamation mark on that idea that this is precious and showing love and appreciation for the music.”
* After drummer R. Scott Bryan passed away in December, Allman Betts turned to Orbison, Roy Orbison’s youngest son, who Betts had played with during the 90s in the band Backbone69. “He’s been a friend of ours for many years. I’ve actually be in in two bands with Alex, so we go way back. He’s a great drummer and a great fit. I can’t think of anyone who’d be better with us than him.”
* Betts says he’s not sure when Allman Betts will work on a third album. “We haven’t really gotten that far. I think right now we’re just keeping it as this, a live thing. We’re really grateful to be out there on the road, and being all together again is really fun. We have a few more shows later in the summer, and we’re just having a great time on tour.”
* Betts released a solo album, “Wild & Precious Life,” last July, which he says he’s still focused on promoting. The album includes guest appearances by Marcus King, Nicki Bluhm and Derek Trucks and was partly inspired by the latter. “I was at a birthday party down in the (Florida) keys and Derek and Susan (Tedeschi, Trucks’ wife) were there. I told them I was thinking about doing a solo record and they said, ‘You should come do it at our studio’ and Derek said, ‘and I want to play on it’ and then it went from there. It was a really fun process and I’m really proud of it and people really like it.”
The Allman Betts Band performs Thursday, May 30 at the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward Ave. Doors at 7 p.m. 313-961-5451 or thefillmoredetroit.com.

Duane Betts Says Playing Late Dad Dickey Betts' Music Has New Meaning Now: ‘Really Treasure It ‘Cause It's Precious'
Duane Betts says that he's been "holding up" since the death of his father , Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts , on April 18 at the age of 80. And while he and Allman Betts Band partner Devon Allman - son of the late Allman Brothers leader Gregg Allman - don't necessarily need more reason to pay tribute to their fathers' musical legacy, Betts tells Billboard that there's a different kind of charge in playing their songs now.
"Now that he's gone it changes it a little more," acknowledges Betts, who was named after the late Duane Allman and played at times in his father's post-Allman Brothers band, Great Southern. "I think the spirit is always with me, whether I'm playing those particular songs or I'm playing my own songs. He had kinda been in poor health for awhile, so I was already playing for him and getting a lot of inspiration (from) thinking about him and what his legacy means to me, personally. I love playing that music and really treasure it 'cause it's precious. so it's nice to play a few of their tunes and mix 'em with our originals I do with the Allman Betts Band or a Duane Betts show.
"And now that he's moved on to the next level it's kind of put the exclamation mark on that idea of showing love and appreciation for the music."
Allman Betts has been mixing a variety of Allman Brothers Band tunes into its current spring tour, including selections such as "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," "Blue Sky," "Jessica," "Melissa," "Midnight Rider," "Dreams," "Seven Turns" and "Sailin ‘Cross the Devil's Sea," as well as Allmans-popularized covers like Sonny Boy Williamson's "One Way Out" and Blind Willie McTell's "Statesboro Blues."
"That's been rotating; it depends on what night it is, what you'll hear," Betts explains. "Y'know, I play the way I play; when I'd ask my dad, ‘Do I sound too much like you?' he would say, ‘Well, you like the same food as me. You walk like me. You cough like me. You look like me. So why are you trying to not be you? Just be you and don't worry about it.'"
Allman Betts' tour runs through June 9 and is the band's first since the 2023 death of drummer R. Scott Bryan, which brought Roy Orbison's youngest son Alex "Orbi" Orbison - who played in two previous bands with Betts - into the lineup. (The group also includes another Allman Brothers progeny, bassist Berry Duane Oakley.) Betts says the septet has made a conscious effort to dig deep into its two album catalog for this trek.
"We're really enjoying switching up the set list quite a bit and throwing different things in there we haven't played in awhile, so it's been really fun," he notes. "We've done songs off our records we haven't played in years, 'cause we haven't really been on tour."
Another Allman Betts Band album - a follow-up to 2020's Bless Your Heart - is another matter, however.
"We haven't really gotten that far," says Betts, who released a solo album, Wild & Precious Life , last July. "I think right now we're just keeping it as this, a live thing. We're really grateful to be out there on the road, and being all together again is really fun. We have a few more shows later in the summer, and we're just having a great time on tour and not thinking about anything else yet."
The band's next date is a show Thursday night (May 30) at The Fillmore in Detroit; click here to see their summer tour schedule.

Devon Allman Unveils ‘Miami Moon,’ First New Album in Eight Years with George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, Adam Deitch and More
At long last, Devon Allman returns to the spotlight today to announce Miami Moon , the Southern rock torchbearer’s first solo album in eight years. Set to release on August 16 via his independent label Create Records, this new project will find the figurehead reworking his process alongside a true studio supergroup of some of the finest in funk and fusion. This dispatch arrives in the wake of Allman’s jaw-dropping world-record run of 50 shows in 50 states in 49 days, amid the artist’s summer kick-off tour with the Allman Betts Band.
The Allman descendant’s return to the front features accompaniment from a truly legendary backing ensemble, comprising George Porter Jr. of The Meters on bass, Dumpstaphunk’s Ivan Neville on keyboards, Lettuce’s Adam Deitch on drums, Karl Denson of The Rolling Stones on saxophone and Jackson Stokes on guitar. Together, the group recontextualized Allman’s creativity, allowing bold new moves and turns from his traditional sound in the hallowed halls of Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida, which also produced such foundational precursors as The Allman Brothers’ Eat a Peach and Derek and the Dominoes’ Layla . Behind the boards, the project features Tom Hambridge, who has brought the blues to bear with Buddy Guy and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and terms Miami Moon a “masterpiece.”
“Making the Miami Moon record with these legendary musicians has been a high point of my career,” Allman offers on his latest project in a release. “They brought these songs to life with their masterful playing and timeless feels. As for the approach, a couple things were different this time: First, writing the songs on bass guitar was a first for me and allowed the grooves to be the main focus. Also, letting go of some previous, limiting thought processes allowed some of my other influences to enter the chat for the first time such as Curtis Mayfield, Sade, The Cure, Steely Dan…among others. I believe you can hear some flourishes of those true loves on this album.”
“Additionally, recording in the same hallowed halls where Dad made the Eat a Peach record and where Uncle Duane and Eric Clapton recorded the Layla record,” the artist reflects, “made for a very special setting for us all to work in. We kept it fun and we kept it funky…..we ordered Cuban food, watched the NBA and jammed in a circle for days. In a world where you can make records in the basement or your bedroom, I’m so grateful to have done this record in a classic manner.”
“White Horse,” the lead single from Allman’s forthcoming project, and an official music video will premiere exclusively via Relix on Thursday, June 6.
The track will release to all streaming platforms on Friday, June 7, and is available to pre-save now . Miami Moon is also available to pre-save and pre-order . Baldwinsville’s Paper Mill Island shifts away from big concerts to more community events

A popular waterfront venue in Central New York is shifting away from big concerts with national acts to focus more on community events.
Paper Mill Island in Baldwinsville has long been known for hosting summer concerts, including a variety of artists like Blackberry Smoke, Ani DiFranco, Rusted Root, Bright Eyes, Bring Me the Horizon, Dickey Betts, The Wailers, Jonny Lang, All That Remains, Little River Band, and nationally touring tribute acts. The amphitheater also hosted 93Q’s Summer Jam, 95X Fest and performances by local artists.
This summer is notably quieter. That’s intentional, according to Baldwinsville Mayor Bruce Stebbins.
The Baldwinsville Center for the Arts has taken over booking events for the venue, Stebbins said. The non-profit organization came forth with a proposal to “try something a little different” that’s more community-based.
Jim Dell, president for the Baldwinsville Center for the Arts, said they’re booking a variety of events, including a Syracuse Shakespeare in the Park performance of “Hamlet” on June 12; a “Homebrewed Comedy” show featuring comedians Brian Enck, Cindy Arena, and Mike Peters on Aug. 10; and smaller concerts by local bands like The Dirty Doves on June 15 and Exit 11 with the Elden Elementary Orchestra on June 14. Admission is free to all of them.
The goal is to create events that are free or more affordable for the community, Dell said, unlike a for-profit promoter.
“We’re trying to reinvent it, in essence... make it more community-centric,” said Baldwinsville village board member Eric Reinagal. Other events could include yoga on the island.
Stebbins told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard that a contract with Creative Concerts wasn’t renewed after the promoter failed to deliver the number of concerts they expected last year. There were also “little” issues, as he “understood it,” with police complaints and small damage, like a vendor’s truck backing into a fence.
Creative Concerts did not respond to a syracuse.com request for comment. Dan Mastronardi, who previously promoted events at Paper Mill Island, said he is currently only working with Westcott Theater and Wonderland Forest shows.
Stebbins said he had limited knowledge of the “trouble.” He became acting mayor in December when longtime Mayor Dick Clarke stepped down for health reasons. Stebbins was elected Baldwinsville mayor for the first time in March.
Paper Mill Island, located at the Erie Canal’s Lock 24 on the scenic Seneca River at 136 Spensieri Ave., previously faced issues in 2013 when noise complaints halted concerts for the most part. A concert by Grammy-winning band Alabama Shakes allegedly violated the village noise ordinance that summer and a request to turn down the volume was ignored by a roadie who instead turned it up, the village board said at the time.
“We’ve gotten over that bridge,” Stebbins said.
Noise violations haven’t been an issue since, Stebbins said, though he noted residents across the water sometimes complain if they don’t like a particular type of music. Reinagal said there were also issues with “certain acts in the past that were swearing too much.”
The venue shifted to free community-based shows in 2016 and 2017, but soon returned to ticketed events with national acts. After the Covid pandemic disrupted live events everywhere, a limited number of shows were booked in 2022 and 2023, including “Stolen Dance” rock band Milky Chance, jam band Umphrey’s McGee, and tributes to Sublime, Led Zeppelin, Zac Brown Band and the Allman Brothers Band.

Stebbins said he liked the Baldwinsville Center for the Arts’ proposal to do a bigger variety of activities where revenue is not always the ultimate goal.
“It may not work,” Stebbins admitted. “It may be a quieter summer than in the past.”
Dell said the Baldwinsville Center for the Arts has 20 ticketed and non-ticketed events scheduled already, including Seneca River Days (June 7-8) and the annual 4th of July fireworks show.
More than 20 Paper Mill Island events are listed on the Baldwinsville Center for the Arts’ Facebook page at facebook.com/BaldwinsvilleCenterForTheArts . The schedule will also be posted on its official website at baldwinsvillearts.org , Dell said.
“I’m excited for this summer,” Reinagal said. “There’s some really cool ideas, and it’ll be a refreshing change... It’ll take some time to get it up and running.”
