Goodbye for now!

That’s it from our live coverage of India against Bangladesh at the T20 World Cup.

A win for Australia against Afghanistan in the next Group 1 match will mean both India and the Australians qualify for the semifinals.

We’ll be back on Sunday with holders England’s chances of qualifying in the balance when they take on USA.

Do join us if you can.

For now, though – from me, Kevin Hand – it’s goodbye!

Rohit Sharma analyses India’s performance

“We know what is expected of us and what we need to do and how we need to play,” the India captain said at the post-match ceremony. “We adapted to the conditions – there is a small factor here in that -and then be smart.

“All batters need to play their role. We saw only one guy got fifty and we still got 195. How you put pressure on the opposition is what matters. All the batters did that from the word go.

“We have to understand conditions as well, but there is a lot of experience in that squad and we back them to make those decisions on the field.

“The way Hardik batted was excellent but the way we batted to put us in a very good state to set the platform to finish that game was brilliant.”

Najmul Hossain Shanto reflects as Bangladesh exit the T20 World Cup

“We were thinking about 160-170 but, the way they bat, credit goes to them,” the Bangladesh captain told the ICC broadcast.

“We have a lot of batting options but we didn’t show the intent we needed – especially in the first six overs and I should have finished the game.

“I should mention Rishad and the way he bowled in this tournament. He has done well.”

India have one foot in the T20 World Cup semifinals

The win moves India to four points in the group. If Australia beat Afghanistan in the next Group 1 match in six hours time then India and the Aussies will both qualify for the semifinals.

Hardik Pandya is Player of the Match

“We played really good cricket. More than anything we stuck together and executed our plans. In certain situations everyone has stepped up at the right times,” he told the ICC broadcast.

“Batters wanted to use the breeze, so I put the ball in short and bowl wide so it was just about being one step ahead of the batters.

“As a group, we can get better in a lot of places. Losing wickets in bunches is something we would like to rectify and get better at. Otherwise, everyone is looking good and in the right mind.

“For me, I’ve always been very fortunate to play for the country. It was a freak injury in the [2023] Cricket World Cup, I did try to come back but I’ve been putting in the hard work to get the opportunities for luck to come my way.

“Luck comes to people who work hard. It doesn’t come to people who sit at home.”

India win by 50 runs!

The final ball is driven for a single by Tanzim and India wrap up a comprehensive victory.

Effective with bat and ball, the India star impressed throughout.

It was a treat to see Hardik Pandya against Bangladesh in his Aramco player of the match display.

Looking at the bare batting figures is impressive enough - a half-century off 27 balls, faced in 38 minutes at the crease, comprising four fours and three sixes, and a strike-rate of 185.18.

Hardik Pandya makes an impact again | POTM Highlights | IND v BAN | T20WC 2024

Hardik Pandya starred with a brilliant half-century and a crucial wicket in India's win over Bangladesh.

Turn one's attention to the Bangladesh innings, though, and you see him weighing in with the ball as well - 1/32 off three overs.

What the match numbers show

What's crucial about these statistics is the context. Pandya's wicket was that of opener Litton Das, removing him in the fifth over for just 13 after the run-rate had been strangled effectively.

And Pandya's own innings came at a crucial time. He headed to the crease in the 12th over with India on 108/4 - a point where it would have been easy for the runs to slow a little. Instead, he led by example, bolstering the total and finishing with a four to reach his 50 in style.

India boost semi-final chances | Match Highlights | IND v BAN | T20WC 2024

India outplayed Bangladesh with a clinical win to make it two wins out of two in the Super Eight phase.

What his career numbers show

Looking at his T20I batting stats by season, at the age of 30 Pandya is coming into his own. It was only in 2022 that he made a half-century in the format; in fact, he made three, across 25 innings. This year, his knock against Bangladesh is his first 50 of the campaign in only his fifth match (and third innings).

There are similar things to be seen with his bowling. Thus far this year, he has bowled in five matches - and taken eight wickets, with an economy rate of 6.47. If the numbers hover around the same mark, that would be his best-ever T20I bowling return across a calendar year.

Big achievements require big players, and Pandya is certainly that. In fact, he has the credentials to be the world's current premier all-rounder in the T20I format.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, named one change, with Taskin Ahmed not taking part in the match. “We would like to bowl first, we would like to restrict them to a small total and that is the plan. We know the conditions here and also about the wind factor. Looks a good wicket. 150-160 will be a good score I reckon. We have one change. Taskin is not playing,” said Najmul.

Rohit said that India would have batted first. “We wanted to bat and that’s what we got. Looks like a good wicket and depends on how much the sun is beating down and making the pitch slow. Important to assess the conditions quickly. We are playing the same team. Important to stay in the present and not worry about other things,” he said.

India: Rohit Sharma(Captain), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube,  Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah

Bangladesh vs India, 2nd ODI - Live Cricket Score, Commentary

bangladesh cricket tour in india

Two games, two victories and magical wins they were as well for Bangladesh. Teams rarely win needing 50-plus off the final wicket or after being 69/6 batting first, but they have done it in successive games. Mehidy the man who has led what's been a collective effort from the home side. They've definitely outplayed their more fancied opponents and a whitewash looms large on Rohit's India. Can they avoid it and end the series on a high? Or will the Bangla juggernaut continue? We'll know in a few days time. On that note, this is Hari Sadanandan signing off on behalf of Raju Peethala , Kumar Abhisekh Das , MS Ramakrishnan and Mukesh . Cheers!

Litton Das | Bangladesh captain: Very happy, to win in my first series as captain, it feels good. We felt that 240-250 was a good score. We were under pressure but they (Mahmudullah and Mehidy) were brilliant. Don't know what their conversations were, but what they did was simply superb. I wanted to rotate my main bowlers around because it was a good pitch in the second half, so I couldn't afford to bowl too many of my main bowlers early on. The focus for the next game will also be about winning.

Before leaving, Mehidy speaks in Bengali to the crowd, thanking them for their support.

Mehidy Hasan | Player of the Match: All credit goes to God for giving me an opportunity to do this. Nothing else to say. Feels very good. Last few years, I have worked hard on the batting and focused on certain areas to improve. My coaches have given me a lot of information on improving my game. Riyad Bhai (Mahmudullah) kept telling me that we need to keep playing deep into the innings and the conversations were mostly about keeping small targets of partnerships. I was just trying to hit the good areas with the ball and put pressure on them.

Rohit Sharma | India captain: It (thumb injury) isn't too great. Some dislocation and some stitches. Fortunately, not a fracture and so, I was able to bat. When you lose a game, there are positives and negatives. From being 69/6, allowing them to get to 270-odd wasn't a great effect from our bowlers. We started well but the middle overs and the back end is what's hurting us a lot. Happened in the last game as well. It's something we need to work on. Not taking anything away from Mehidy and Mahmudullah, was a great partnership but we also need to find ways of breaking such partnerships. In One-Day cricket, it's about partnerships and when you get those, you have to ensure that they are converted to match-winning partnerships. That's what they did. If you get those 70-run stands, you need to convert them into 110-120 run partnerships for the team to win games, as it isn't easy for the new batter. Need to be braver in the middle. There are few injury concerns, we need to get to the bottom of this. Need to try and monitor them, because it's important to understand this. When they come to play for India, they need to be at more than 100 percent. We need to monitor their workload because we can't have guys coming in to play for the country half-fit.

20:22 Local Time, 14:22 GMT, 19:52 IST: Memorable series win for Bangladesh, their second successive one at home against India, seven years apart. They haven't lost a home ODI series since October 2016, so the result shouldn't really be surprising but it's still one that not many expected. Rohit tried his best at the end, walking out half-fit and launching into an array of shots, but he fell one big shot away from taking India across the line. Axar and Iyer were impressive earlier in the chase after India had slipped to a precarious situation. Bangladesh's bowlers were clinical with the new-ball and then responded well in the key moments to ensure that the series was sealed with a game in hand. All the bowlers did their part but Ebadot and Shakib were the standouts, with Mehidy also picking up two crucial wickets to add to this superlative ton early in the day.

Mustafizur to Rohit, no run, Mustafizur holds his nerve and Bangladesh seal the series! Perfect leg-stump yorker, nothing much Rohit can do except dig it out. The crowd in Mirpur is now deafening with their noise

Litton is having a chat with Mustafizur.

Mustafizur to Rohit, SIX , two sixes needed, there is one of them! What a finish we're having! Rohit stays on the back foot this time for the off-cutter and goes straight down the ground. Easily clears the rope. Wow, what drama! Fifty for Rohit and it's been an exceptional fight from the wounded skipper

Mustafizur to Rohit, no run, swing and a miss! Third man had dropped to the fence, so Rohit was forced to go leg-side and he tries the sweep. Misses it completely

Mustafizur to Rohit, FOUR , yes, he can! The field has to change, you'd think, because this is too easy. Nobody sweeping behind square on the off-side and Rohit once again uses the angle of Mustafizur's off-cutter. Steers it away through the gap at backward point

One more boundary here will really heat things up. Can Rohit find it?

Mustafizur to Rohit, FOUR , finds the boundary this time! Better percentage shot from Rohit as he goes on the off-side, with the angle of the off-cutter and deliberately slices this away. Third man is up and it goes away to the fence

Mustafizur to Rohit, no run, play and a miss! That off-cutter outside off, Rohit looks to go straight down the ground but doesn't connect at all

Umran Malik, right handed bat, comes to the crease

So, 20 needed off 6 balls. Fizz to Rohit. Last wicket.

Mahmudullah to Siraj, out Bowled!! Cleaned up! It was basically a free hit for Siraj with it being the last ball of the over and he tries to pull this hard. But it's the quicker one that keeps very low and sneaks well under the bat. Timber! Siraj b Mahmudullah 2(12)

Mahmudullah to Siraj, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!

Mahmudullah to Rohit, 1 run, Rohit has been dropped again! Anamul the man at deep backward square leg and he has put down the skier. A juicy full toss, should have been put into the stands but Rohit doesn't get hold of the slog at all. Fortunate to survive

Mahmudullah to Rohit, 2 runs, full and slow, Rohit steps out and whips it away to wide long-on. Brisk running and they get a brace

In a crucial Super 8 clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 , India delivered a commanding batting performance against Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India amassed a formidable total of 196/5 in their allotted 20 overs, setting a challenging target for their opponents.

Rohit Sharma , leading from the front, provided a quick start with 23 runs off 11 deliveries, including 3 boundaries and a six. His aggressive approach set the tone early on. Virat Kohli anchored the innings with a composed 37 off 28 balls, featuring 1 four and 3 sixes. Rishabh Pant contributed a brisk 36 off 24 balls, laced with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Hardik Pandya played a scintillating innings, smashing 50 runs off just 27 deliveries, which included 4 boundaries and 3 sixes. His explosive hitting towards the end bolstered India’s total significantly.

Chasing 197 for victory, Bangladesh faced an uphill task against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Despite efforts from Najmul Hossain Shanto , who scored 40 off 32 balls, and contributions from Tanzid Hasan (29 off 31) and Rishad Hossain (24 off 10), Bangladesh faltered in their pursuit. They managed to reach 146/8 in their 20 overs, falling short by 50 runs.

India’s bowling unit displayed collective effort and control throughout the innings. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball, both picking up 2 crucial wickets apiece. Arshdeep conceded 30 runs in his 4 overs, while Bumrah was exceptional with figures of 2 wickets for 13 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Kuldeep Yadav also made significant contributions, claiming 3 wickets for 19 runs in his 4 overs, further restricting Bangladesh’s scoring opportunities. Hardik also bagged a wicket.
