Is there a good group for travelers (both male and female in one group ) over 50?

I’m not an expert in that arena, my audience is recent grads and 20’s, so I don’t know! I’m sorry!

Thanks, these are so helpful! I am curious if you have ever come across any legit, alive Brown/South Asian travel groups, would love to know some. 🙂

I’m looking for a Facebook group for individuals traveling on a safari to Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar or something close. All groups that I find are companies promoting their travel tours.

I’d recommend maybe looking for expat communities in Kenya or Tanzania. What’s your goal with the Facebook group?

Great list, I would also recommend the Travel Fashion Girl group, awesome for packing tips.

Thanks for the great list. Can you recommend any working holiday face book pages? I’m thinking of starting one.

I don’t know of any! If you make it, I will add it to the list 🙂

Great list! You should include Black Travel Lounge! https://www.facebook.com/groups/BlackTL

I ran across your web site. I loved it. I’m a 68 married female. I want to travel different states in the United States. My husband does not want to travel real bad. I would like to meet women who loves to travel also. What is the best Facebook travel site for that.

I think Girls Love Travel, and Solo Female Travel Network will be great for what you’re looking for!

Excellent suggestions!

The Best Facebook Travel Groups On the Internet

Note: This post may contain affiliate links! Check our disclaimer if you need more info!

best travel groups on facebook

This is a reference guide for the best Facebook travel groups.

Even before I started blogging, Facebook travel groups were a great source of information for my travels.  Over time, some have stood out to me more than others either because they were extremely helpful or they have a strong community feel.  If you haven’t had a chance to deep dive into Facebook travel groups or you aren’t sure which are the best, I’ve got you covered!  I am an active member in all of the Facebook travel groups listed here and absolutely love them.  So without further adieu, here are the best Facebook travel groups.

What Are Facebook Travel Groups

Why join facebook travel groups, solo mom travel, 9 to 5 travel, wandering moms, black kids do travel, moms (girls love travel), tiny globetrotters: travel the world with kids, girls love travel, curvy girls travel guide, black travel movement, african american travelers, black world travelers, road to 100 countries, award travel 101.

A Facebook travel group is a group on Facebook that is dedicated to all things travel.  Some of them use special niches like family travel, travel to a specific region, travel for specific genders, etc.  Regardless of their niche, you’ll find a group of people all interested in that particular topic.

The goal of these Facebook travel groups is to provide information that other travelers might find helpful.  Think of them as an easy [and free] way to crowdsource information for your trip.

I love Facebook travel groups because if you find the right one, the members can usually provide a level of insight you wouldn’t find through a general Google search.  For example, I shared my post about things to do in Orlando besides theme parks in one of my favorite Facebook travel groups.  A local responded with an attraction I hadn’t heard of which I was able to add to the list.

Also, on a personal level, sometimes it is just nice to commiserate with other people attempting this travel life too.  Missed your connecting flight?  Came down with massive diarrhea at the tail end of your trip?  Lost your passport in the deserts of Morroco?  Chances are someone else in a Facebook travel group has experienced the same thing.  They can offer their support and usually provide resolutions that worked for them.

Best Facebook Travel Groups for Solo Moms

Whether you’re a single mom or just a mom that travels solo with your kids, Solo Mom Travel is the Facebook travel group for you. Participants crowdsource everything from trip ideas to travel tips. Connect with other like-minded solo moms in this wonderful group.

Best Facebook Travel Groups for Families

Facebook Travel Groups - 9 to 5 Travel

I couldn’t write this post about Facebook travel groups without including our own.  9 to 5 Family Travel group is dedicated to the average working family that wants to balance their careers and traveling with their children.  We share everything from school calendars to budget to tips/tricks to maximize your PTO.

Wandering Moms is hands down one of my favorite Facebook travel groups.  As the title suggests, the group is for moms that travel with their kids.  If you are a fellow travel family, you can find most of what you need here: itineraries, tips, and advice.  The owners of the groups also coordinate group travels [some with kids and some without] that you can sign up for.

Black Kids Do Travel is another one of my favorite Facebook travel groups.  With over 22,000 members, this group is packed with helpful information and travel inspiration.  It is run by the fabulous Karen Akpan of The Mom Trotter who regularly contributes helpful tips as well.   This is a must join Facebook travel group.

This Facebook travel group is dedicated to moms that want to travel with their kids.  This group is actually a subsidiary of Girls Love Travel, a large Facebook group designed for women that travel.  It is heavily moderated with many group administrators.  Posts can take some time to be approved and any topics deemed as unhelpful are denied.  Comments are also moderated and removed if offensive or against group rules.  The heavy overhead is helpful though because it guarantees an on-topic, clean, productive Facebook travel group.

Tiny Globetrotters is highly interactive and one of the best Facebook travel groups out there.  What I like the most about this group is that the members are from all over the world.  Many groups can be very centric on the United States but not this one!  It is global so you really get a variety of posts, questions, and ideas.

Best Facebook Travel Group for Women

This Facebook travel group has over 1 million members but somehow manages to maintain a small community feeling.  With that many members, it is heavily moderated out of necessity; posts can take days to approve and any threads that go awry are closed almost immediately.  However, I’ve learned of new destinations, given and received help, and online connected with some awesome ladies in this group.  Plus, they also plan group trips led by the group founder Haley Woods. This, by far, is one of the best Facebook travel groups on the web.

The Internet needs all the body positivity it can get – especially in the travel space.  That’s why The Curvy Girls Travel Guide is one of my favorite Facebook travel groups.  It provides a safe space for those that identify as women to connect and collaborate whether it be about plus-sized travel or just travel in general.

Best Facebook Travel Group for African-Americans

Despite some drama surrounding coordinated trips, Black Travel Movement remains one of my preferred Facebook travel groups.  There are over 400,000 highly engaged people in the group and it stays busy with posts every day.  The admins require that every post be informational so you are bound to learn a lot about travel in this group.

African American Travelers actually has roots as a travel planning company.  Their customers asked them to expand into forming a real community so African American Travelers Facebook travel group was born.  The group was created for folks to connect, share and inspire and it does just that.

There are many Facebook travel groups designated for African-American travelers. What makes Black World Travelers stand out is that they specifically state that they are “strictly for the classy Black professional traveler.”  Photography, recent travel news, and more are shared here.

Best Misc Facebook Travel Group

Don’t want a specific niche? Just want to learn about all things travel regardless of your family status, gender, or race?  Then Road to 100 Countries is the Facebook travel group for you!  There’s a little bit of family travel, a little bit of solo travel, a little bit of award travel — there’s a little bit of everything.

Facebook Travel Groups - Award Travel 101

I’m the first to admit that I struggle with traveling on points [check here to see how we budget for our trips and here to see how we afford to travel ].  However, we’ve made big strides in accumulating miles and points and learning how to properly redeem them by being a member of Award Travel 101.  This Facebook travel group is filled with gurus that will help you get the most out of your award travel.

What are your favorite Facebook travel groups?

Thanks for the wonderful advice. I think it’s great how you are able to create some of those photos with only an iPhone. You have a wonderful eye for composition.

I’ve been following your blog for the last month. I love your honesty in the content you write about the positive and negative aspects of solo travel and blogging. I really feel I can relate to it. I have been solo travelling for the past 3 years but have only just started to document it with a blog of my own. I’m at a transition phase in the way in which I travel and the way in which I work to travel as I am working towards creating my own travel business within the kitesurfing industry. Reading your blog and being able to relate to your content has inspired me to blog to document my travels and my development as I create my dream career. Thanks for the advice and the inspiration.

Groups to find travel buddies

best travel groups on facebook

We love traveling solo, but sometimes it’s nice to share some parts of the journey with other travelers or even with locals. There’s something special about making connections far away from home, and the possibility to transform them into long lasting friendships that makes finding a travel buddy all the more appealing. Here are travel groups designed just for that.

SFT Connections

Since there are always so many people interested in connecting with other travelers, we created a subgroup of our main group called Solo Female Travelers Connection , set up just for women who want to find travel buddies, a host, other travelers or locals to meet up or hang out with, even someone to pet sit their house or to swap homes with.

Join the group , post your travel details, house/pet sitting offer or request and connect with others who match up. This is a great way to meet new people and make friends abroad.

Meetup is a great site for meeting people. This isn’t only for global travel, but is also a great way to meet people locally who share your interests.

You join a meetup in the area you’re situated, which is basically an event or activity, and meet people for anything, from sunrise yoga to kayaking.

Travel-related Meetup groups are a great way to find a travel buddy as you can connect with people who have shared interests and friendships may form. And remember meetups are for anyone, both locals and international travelers, so you never know who you’re going to meet.

Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is a free version of Airbnb, or shall we say Airbnb is a paid version of Couchsurfing since they were first!

You get to immerse yourself in the culture as you stay with a local for a short period of time for free sleeping on their couch, bed or a mattress.

Like Workaway, Couchsurfing offers a meetup feature where you can either meet with another traveler one-on-one or you can create a group meetup for similarly-minded people who like to do the same activities as you, from hiking to wine tasting.

Join my trip

Join My Trip is sort of like a local guided experience where you can tag along with other travelers on a local journey around a specific part of the world.

The trips vary in price as some are with professional guides while others are just for tagging along with other solo travelers who want to share transportation fare (what they call a “seat filler”). The trip leader can charge a small fee to organize the entire trip.

They also have a “Global Greeter Network” where you pay the annual membership and then can request someone to pick you up at a designated spot. You can then go on for a guided tour, a walk around the city, or just be dropped off somewhere.

In this way, you get to find out more about the area from a local without worrying about having to find a taxi. Other categories include “Travel buddies”, “Group Travel”, and “Female Travel”.

Host a Sister

Created by Host A Sister, a company that promotes cultural exchange through women sharing their homes and friendships with other female travelers for free. This is a great community where you can find travel buddies or meet up with a new friend.

You can even seek for a host to stay with or offer your own home as free accommodation for other women. The group is properly moderated and all of the posts follow a certain format to make every request clear and straight to the point.

My Favorite Social Media Travel Groups

  • Travel Tips

Social media is how travelers connect. And according to a Pew Research study, some 62 percent of internet users ages 65 and older use Facebook — and 72 percent of 50–64-year-olds report using it.

A few months before COVID isolated millions in their homes, Ann Marie McCarthy launched a meetup for people who participated on her Facebook site, the Over 60 Woman Travel and Meetup Group . It was a first for her — she had arranged for speakers, food, and lots of socializing at a hotel in Asbury Park, New Jersey. And she knew right away that the direction she was taking hit a nerve in the over 60 women’s travel cohort because her site expanded rapidly, with online discussion and Zoom meetings offering speakers and presentations. There are now more than 5,000 members in her group on Facebook, and a sister site recently posted on Instagram .

I was a speaker at that first meeting. I had only just begun to write articles about my travels, and this Facebook group made me feel like I was part of a community that has provided me with travel information, great advice, and life-enhancing friendships.

Facebook And Social Media

Although travelers also use other social media platforms — like Instagram , YouTube , Pinterest , Twitter , and WhatsApp — Facebook outnumbers them all (and most of the large Facebook groups also have sites on other platforms). With some 2.85 billion users in 2021, Facebook is now the largest social media platform in the world.

There has been much negative criticism of Facebook, but studies have shown that baby boomers seem to have more positive emotions associated with it than do millennials. Perhaps that’s because the 50+ cohort largely uses it for reconnecting with old friends and finding new ones, as well as for family updates.

One of the most powerful aspects of Facebook is that it can offer travel groups very specific audiences: by gender, age, interests, and activity levels. Most of the groups below thrive on diversity — of race, religion, sexual preference, ethnicity, and country origin. There are groups for solo trips, small groups, bus tours, hiking trips, and cruises. Other travel-related groups include home exchange, international pet sitting, finding a travel partner, and meetups in cities around the world.

My Favorite Groups (Mostly) For Women

Over 60 solo women travelers group (17.9k members).

With members ranging in age “from 55 to 95,” some members of this group are experienced solo travelers, some are newbies seeking advice and encouragement, and some are in between. Because there is much discussion online about what solo travel means, this group demonstrates its inclusivity by noting that it “can mean taking a backpack and hitting the road with no plan, or joining day trips in cities that you visit, or joining a tour of other single travelers.” The group is administered by One Woman Traveler, which also administers the website One Woman Traveler, the Global Community for Older Independent Women Travelers, a presence on the Mighty Networks platform.

Over 60 Women Travel And Meetup (5.5K Members)

I joined this group at its inception and have enjoyed meeting some wonderful women over the past 2 years. The Over 60 Women Travel and Meetup group shares travel plans, travel photos, and information about everything from the best medical insurance to getting refunds on airline cancellations to emerging new bucket list destinations. Under the aegis of Anne Marie McCarthy, the group’s individual members have created in-person meetups everywhere from New York City to Birmingham to Annapolis to Philadelphia to Phoenix to Orange County, California, and even abroad. A large meetup scheduled for Savannah in November of 2021 sold out in days.

Solo Travel Groups For All Ages

The solo female travel network (466k members) .

Claiming to be the largest solo female travel group online, SoFe Travel also offers sister groups that focus on some of the most popular conversation topics, such as LBTQ+ Travel , Over 40 , Free Accommodation , and others. They also offer meetups in countries around the world.

Solo Travel Society (264K Members)

The Solo Travel Society is a community where people who share a passion for traveling alone exchange tips, suggestions, and encouragement. They offer discussion of the how and why of solo travel and feature weekly posts on solo travel destinations. Dramatic photos are contributed by readers.

Girls Love Travel (1.1 Million Members)

Girls Love Travel calls itself “a global community of aspiring women travelers providing resources and empowerment to one another to explore the world fearlessly through safety, socializing, and support.” The site reports that its members range from age 13 to 91, with different backgrounds and from all walks of life.

Groups Connected To Travel Companies And Magazines

Some travel companies and magazines have specific Facebook pages for women. All have active discussions, photograph posting, and shared advice about the joys and challenges of travel. The following are some of my favorites:

  • Women of Road Scholar
  • EF Go Ahead
  • Overseas Adventure Travel
  • Intrepid Travel
  • Women Who Travel ( Condé Nast Traveler® )
  • Travel + Leisure

Groups Offering Practical Help For Travelers

Host a sister (156k members).

Host A Sister is a global community in which women around the world find accommodations or share their homes for free as part of a worldwide cultural exchange.

Home Exchange (65K Members)

Members may exchange their homes in 187 countries around the world. Home exchange stories and photos are posted on Facebook. The site’s slogan is: “Travel anywhere. Live like a local. Stay for free.”

Couchsurfing (895K Members)

Couchsurfing provides a way to inexpensively travel the world by staying with locals. Folks in various countries offer their homes and share their lives and cultures with travelers. Couchsurfers organize regular events in cities around the world.

Trusted Housesitters (242K Members)

This is a British-based group that enables its members to find house and pet sitting opportunities in countries around the world. It also provides vetted and trustworthy folks to care for pets and/or homes for travelers, for a fee.

Some Caveats And Rules

A major criticism of Facebook and other social media is that they do not oversee hostile conversations. That’s why most groups listed have established rules for their members, including banning hate speech and bullying, rejecting promotions or spam, and respecting the user’s privacy and cultural traditions. Many sites have caveats to “be nice.” I’ve noted bickering over everything from the politics of COVID shots to arguments over what countries people should avoid. Sometimes these arguments include name-calling, but happily, sometimes participants establish a truce.

Privacy And Membership

A number of these groups are open only to members. Those who want to join must offer basic facts about themselves and their interests and perhaps give an email address. They must assure the group that they are not a business or marketing company trolling for sales.

What I Love About Facebook And Other Social Media

I know that I have made some lifelong connections and have found funny and smart friends on several of these travel groups. I have also found that users largely trust others like them for advice — especially people in their own cohort — more than they do organizations or marketers. And even if one is not a fan of Facebook, it is difficult to deny that digital technology and social media have and will affect the travel behavior of our cohort.

For those who have the ability to weigh opinions, recognize valid information, and take an enthusiastic leap when opportunities present themselves, social media can certainly inform and inspire our connections to each other and to the world. A growing number of women are watching, reading, waiting, and then changing their life paths by taking that leap.

1. The Solo Female Traveller Network

Amanda Black loved travelling solo but found that wanted a community to lean on while she was on the road where she could turn to for inspiration, sisterhood and support. To fill that void, she and some women she had met while travelling created a private Facebook group – the Solo Female Traveller Network back in 2016.

Today, this group has over 300,000 followers and six sub-groups. Black created this space not just for solo female travellers looking to get travel advice, but a place to share stories, experiences and make connections with other women on the road. 14 Best Senior-friendly Travel Groups

These senior-friendly travel companies offer tours and travel experiences as diverse as their clients.

best travel groups on facebook

The benefits of travel, whether it's a refreshing weekend getaway or a month-long trip to a new destination, are undeniable. And for retirees and seniors who have time and a travel budget, the opportunities are nearly endless — their own city, state, country, and even the whole world are all waiting to be explored.

It should be recognized that seniors are as diverse as any other generation, perhaps even more so as their years of experience have taken them in many directions. While their interests, abilities, values, and habits may vary, it can safely be said that for many, travel is in their plans.

Seniors travel to visit family, learn about the countries of their ancestors , or explore new destinations. Many seek immersive experiences, educational opportunities, or adventure. And travel companies are responding to their needs and wishes by offering tour options ranging from independent to fully guided, budget to luxury, and group to individual. The 14 organizations listed below are either aimed specifically at mature clients or feature experiences that are flexible enough to accommodate a variety of travelers.

Walking the World

Operating out of Grand Junction, Colorado, Walking the World offers walking and hiking tours mainly for travelers over the age of 50 who want to be immersed in the destinations they choose. Experienced hikers will enjoy its Rocky Mountain National Park tour , for example, with treks of up to 10 miles on some days during the eight-day itinerary. Meanwhile, the Ireland trip covers 11 days of exploring fishing villages, rolling green hills, the stunning Cliffs of Moher, the Dingle Peninsula, and Killarney National Park. Daily walks range from four to eight miles and are described as gentle to moderate.

Road Scholar

Originally launched as Elderhostel in 1975, the company rebranded in 2010 as Road Scholar , recognizing the values and interests of lifelong learners who have participated in their lectures, tours, field trips, and educational experiences over the years. Participants are typically over the age of 50 and ready to learn from travel or focus on a specific interest. Trip themes such as grandparent adventures (special types of trips you can take with your grandchild), cruises, urban exploration, art and history, historical sites, and academic topics can be browsed by destination, activity level, and interest to help clients select their ideal tour experience.

Adventures Abroad

While Adventures Abroad largely caters to travelers over 50, tours are open to adults of all ages, and operate on every continent except for Antarctica. The company's "soft adventure" trips, which concentrate on the culture and history of a destination, don't include strenuous activities, though a reasonable degree of fitness and the ability to walk are required. Trips are rated from one to three based on physical activity, with the first level featuring only leisurely walks and level two meaning more time on your feet each day. Level-three trips might include walks or hikes on uneven ground for three to seven hours, though at a leisurely pace. Specific trips are suggested for each activity level for easy planning.

An adventure travel company designed for people ages 50 and over, ElderTreks offers small-group adventures — think wildlife safaris, hiking trips, cultural journeys, and other unique expeditions — in more than 100 countries. The tours are rated by activity level, ranging from one to five. At level one, travelers should be able to walk for one to two hours, whereas at level five, they'll need to be capable of hiking for eight to 10 hours.

Senior Cycling

Specializing in bicycle tours for active adults ages 50 and up, Senior Cycling limits groups to a maximum of 13 participants. And they are always accompanied by the "sag wagon" in case someone needs a break from riding. Trips are rated at two levels: intermediate (for the occasional rider who prefers bike paths and flat terrain for 20–40 miles per day) and advanced (for those who are at ease with up to 50 miles per day, hills, and traffic). Custom tours can also be arranged for families or groups of friends.

Firebird Tours

With a focus on clients ages 50 and over, Firebird Tours offers small group trips to destinations in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East that deliver value, comfort, and quality. Themes for guided tours include gastronomy, history, architecture, and the Northern Lights , as well as theater and opera. Private family tours are also available, with destinations and activities suitable for a wider age range depending on the group.

Seniors interested in active vacations should check out Backroads , based out of Berkeley, California. While tours are open to all ages, the majority of participants tend to be over 50. Guided biking, walking, and hiking tours to a variety of destinations are geared toward adults, but also include options for families traveling with "teens and kids," "older teens and 20s," and those in their "20s and beyond." The company's Dolce Tempo tours offer a more relaxed pace, and include trips such as the Easygoing E-bike Tour in California wine country and the Easygoing Multi-adventure Tour in New Zealand.

Overseas Adventure Travel

With a variety of trips available to destinations on every continent, Overseas Adventure Travel makes a great choice if you're interested in seeing the world via small-ship cruises. In addition to guided land tours for groups of eight to 16, OAT offers sailings through the Norwegian Fjords, along West Africa's coast, and throughout the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas. Mature travelers are often attracted to the flexibility of the trips and the ability to personalize activities. Recognizing that many of their customers travel alone — including a whopping 85 percent of their female clients — the company has created its getaways with solo travelers in mind, whether they're first-timers or experienced adventurers.

EF Go Ahead Tours

Operating out of Cambridge, Massachusetts, EF Go Ahead Tours offers a selection of small group tours for 10 to 22 guests. The senior-friendly trips focus on interests such as food and wine, adventure, and safaris, as well as specific destinations and seasonal events (think Oktoberfest in Germany, annual holiday markets in Europe, or St. Patrick's Day in Ireland). Traveling alone? The company's solo tours provide private rooms and personalized experiences especially geared toward those traveling by themselves. Clients can also gather their own group and take advantage of the services of EF's professional coordinators.

Kensington Tours

If you're looking to create a fully customized, privately guided trip based on your group's specific needs and travel preferences, look no further than Kensington Tours . Their expertise in more than 100 destinations worldwide makes planning easy, whether the goal is a culturally immersive experience, enjoying fine wine and dining, discovering the history of a place, or relaxation. While these arrangements are ideal for mature travelers who appreciate ease and luxury, the company also provides experiences for multigenerational travel in countries like Thailand, Japan, Iceland, and South Africa, featuring kid-friendly trips that come with private vehicles, local guides, and dining options fit for the whole family.

Intrepid Travel

A leading adventure tour operator known for its efforts to make travel accessible to all, Intrepid Travel offers a good mix of bespoke and ready-made itinerary options that can be adapted to suit your group's comfort level. Intrepid's Accessible Tours are especially inclusive, with trips that are designed for every type of traveler. Whichever trip you decide to book, you'll have access to local destination specialists to help you choose the perfect places to stay as well as organize transportation, activities, and guided tours, depending on your needs. The company's Walking & Trekking trips, suitable for a range of fitness levels, are especially popular with seniors, though adults of all ages are free to join in.

YMT Vacations

In business since 1967, YMT Vacations designs all-inclusive trips with mature travelers in mind. Prices cover hotel accommodations, guided sightseeing tours, baggage handling, and the expertise of tour directors and driver guides. Destinations include Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, North America, Central and South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, among others, and the company arranges travel for popular events such as the Rose Parade in California. A number of river cruise and transatlantic sailing options are also available.

Grand European Travel

Grand European Travel is an AARP-preferred travel provider (check the website for members-only discounts) that promotes itself as a one-stop shop to help clients plan their desired travel experiences. The company represents a collection of 30 travel brands — including the likes of Trafalgar and Insight Tours — which, altogether, cover seven continents. Offerings range from budget to luxury getaways, and everything from cruises to land tours. Thinking of taking a multigenerational trip? Browse the company's family experiences section, stocked with tours fit for all ages, whether you're into all-inclusive European river cruises or exploring U.S. national parks.

Country Walkers

Country Walkers aims to introduce travelers to new landscapes and cultures around the world by traveling on foot. Established in 1979, the Vermont-based operator offers walking tours in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. Tour types include guided (in a small group of up to 18) and self-guided (in a private group of up to 12), providing a great option for independent exploration. Travelers can choose from five levels, starting at "easy walking," which includes a daily distance of two to six miles for up to four hours per day. "Moderate walking," the mid-range option, suggests four to 10 miles and up to six hours of walking per day. Trips at the "challenging walking" level might go up to seven hours a day on foot, covering anywhere from six to 14 miles. Guests of all ages should be able to find a destination and tour that's best suited for their interests and fitness level.

Best Facebook Groups to Promote Your Blog

Travel bloggers club.

This is the first travel bloggers group I ever joined and I’m so glad I did.

The group is solely for travel bloggers and is made up of regular promotion threads that you can participate in.

Read the rules for each thread to ensure you are participating correctly, as the admins are very strict about reciprocation and deadlines.

I love their Click Through Traffic Thread to increase sessions, Google Traffic Thread to bring up your bounce rate, and Blog Shares Thread to increase your social reach.

Although it takes some time to reciprocate the 15+ participants, it can be a great way for new bloggers to gain some traction.

I no longer participate as I don’t have time and prefer organic, passive reach. But many bloggers in the group are highly established and continue to participate daily.

Tips to Make the Most of Blogging Facebook Groups

  • Turn on notifications for posts that you are interested in learning the answers to. Then you don’t need to say “following” in the comments.
  • Save posts to a directory that you name “travel blog” or “blog ideas” to help you keep track of older posts that had helpful information.
  • When participating in promotional threads, use the save post function to ensure you remember to complete it. You can also set it as a calendar reminder with the link to the post in your iCal.
  • Don’t join threads with deadlines if you know you can’t meet the deadline. For example, if you’re travelling that day or have no wifi.
  • VAs are a helpful way to manage reciprocations in promotion threads
  • You can find niche and location specific groups very easily by searching on Facebook.
  • It’s smart to join both travel blog groups and travel groups. You can learn a lot from your audience in Facebook groups.
  • You will need a blog URL to join most blog groups. So have this set up (and a post or two to promote) when you join.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask “stupid” questions. I’ve asked some things that I felt very embarrassed about but many people ended up commenting that they had the same question.
  • Share your knowledge. #communityovercompetition! Helping other bloggers doesn’t diminish your successes.
  • Build genuine connections. It helps blogging feel less lonely when you’re doing it in your living room or bedroom in the evenings while your family is in the other room.
  • Be encouraging and positive in your comments. You want to be known as the supportive blogger, not the one who brings the group down with negativity.

Discovering Group Tours for Solo Travelers

European tours for singles

If you plan to travel alone, there are factors to consider when searching for a group tour. There’s an abundance of tours and travel groups for singles. Ask yourself the below questions to help narrow down your options and determine a tour that’s best suited for you.

When do you intend to travel?

When looking at a specific group tour, you might come across a list of intended departure dates and an itinerary of the destinations you will visit. Tour companies generally have pre-set departure dates for when a tour will take place. These can be far ahead, or closer to the current date. As the tour dates and itinerary are typically pre-arranged, this is something to be mindful of when planning your vacation, so that you can choose a date that works best for your schedule.

How long would you like to travel for?

Many tours range from 8 to 14 days long, as they account for travel time between cities, and allow you to experience the highlights of the cities visited. While it depends on the tour, many itineraries will typically visit 3 to 5 different destinations within that time frame. For certain experiences, you can also find tours as short as 5 days, tours as long as 24 days, and everything else in-between.

What type of activities interest you?

Tour companies typically offer various types of tours. Perhaps you would like to spend your days hiking in the forest, explore the food and culture of a country, or uncover historic landmarks in a city. A common theme offered is sightseeing-based tours. These tours transport you to a brand-new city or country and allow you to visit the notable attractions and top highlights. They are broad and generally appeal to most people.

There are also more specific tour themes for certain interests. For example, there are adventure tours that take you outdoors, culinary trips, and sailing or cruise expeditions. While you’ll often find single travelers in most groups, there’s also tours that specifically offer group trips for solo travelers.

Where do you want to go?

Is there a specific destination that you already have in mind? If not, flip through a travel magazine for ideas, or see our Solo Trip Guide  for inspiration. Tour companies will generally plan an itinerary that gives you the opportunity to visit various top cities within the same country or region. For those interested in group travel for singles, there’s a wide array of destinations to contemplate.

Try browsing through tour listings to see what piques your interest. Often, you’ll be able to see a group tour’s itinerary on the tour listing page, which displays the scheduled cities and the activities planned for each day.

7 of the best all-inclusive experiences to book this year, from a travel planner

  • As a travel planner, my clients seem to be increasingly interested in all-inclusive trips .
  • Some of my favorite luxury resorts are in Costa Rica, the Maldives, and Isla Mujeres.
  • Cruises, group tours, and adults-only lodgings can also come with all-inclusive options.

Insider Today

As a travel planner at Marvelous Mouse Travels , I know vacations are expensive — especially if you're looking to go somewhere this summer . But all-inclusive travel is often a great way to get the most value out of a luxury experience.

I've been on several all-inclusive vacations with my family, friends, and work, and I've helped other people book them in destinations around the world .

Here are some of the best all-inclusive experiences I'm recommending to my clients this year.

Try a split-stay vacation to see the best of Costa Rica.

best travel groups on facebook

Costa Rica is one of the most sought-after vacations , and for good reason. It's great for both relaxation and adventure.

I recommend booking a split stay, starting at an all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste near the beach for some fun in the sun and moving to a resort near the famous Arenal Volcano for a jungle adventure.

Some of my favorite resorts in Costa Rica are the Westin Reserva Conchal and the Dreams Las Mareas. And if you're looking for an even more unique experience, check out the glorious swim-out suites with private pools at Dreams.

Baglioni Maldives is one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts.

best travel groups on facebook

The Maldives, a remote set of islands in the Indian Ocean, offers a plethora of resort options for couples and families, but Baglioni Maldives is my favorite.

For many in the US, getting to the islands can be daunting — there are very few direct commercial flights, and it can take almost an entire day. But it's hard to beat the country's luxury accommodations and gorgeous landscape.

The Maldives also has some of the most beautiful marine life and coveted spots for snorkeling and scuba diving.

No matter where you go, overwater bungalows are the ultimate all-inclusive splurge.

best travel groups on facebook

Overwater bungalows — villas standing on poles over open ocean water — are prevalent at all-inclusive resorts in destinations like the Maldives, Fiji, and Bali.

But I've also come across the luxurious accommodations at select adults-only Sandals Resorts throughout the Caribbean.

I think having a private villa on the water is the perfect way to unwind and relax.

Adults-only vacations are on the rise.

best travel groups on facebook

Traveling with kids can be a blast, but I also think it's important for adults to take a much-needed break on their own.

Adults-only resorts have been a total respite for me and my husband after hectic months of juggling work with our kids' school and sports schedules.

If you're looking to unwind with a partner, relax on a girls' trip, or even connect with your adult children, there are countless adults-only, all-inclusive resorts to choose from, depending on where you're looking to visit.

Some properties, including Sandals and Beaches Resorts, also offer butler service. Designated staff members can help with anything from room requests and dining reservations to cabana rentals and transportation coordination.

I upgraded to the service at my favorite adults-only spot, Le Blanc Los Cabos, and I felt totally pampered.

Isla Mujeres is pure luxury.

best travel groups on facebook

Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancún, is known for its crystal-clear, turquoise water and peaceful vibe. It's also home to Playa Norte, one of the best beaches in Mexico .

Impressions Isla Mujeres by Secrets is a gorgeous all-inclusive resort on the island. It offers luxury at its finest, but with only 125 rooms, it has a boutique feel.

One of my favorite features of the resort is the waterslide that leads right into the beautiful ocean.

There are plenty of all-inclusive packages at sea.

best travel groups on facebook

Cruising is one of the most popular vacations , whether it's an epic adventure on a Royal Caribbean Cruise, a couples-only journey on Virgin Voyages, or a regal tour of Europe on Viking River Cruises.

Although cruises aren't traditionally considered all-inclusive, with the right booking, they can have the same feel as a luxury resort.

Most cruise bookings include food, nonalcoholic drinks, and live entertainment. If you add beverage packages and excursions in advance, your trip should be fully paid for before you depart.

Book a small-group or private tour if you're looking for adventure.

best travel groups on facebook

Group travel is a great way to explore new places while soaking up culture and history.

Popular destinations include Italy, Japan, Costa Rica, and Alaska, and many travel companies take care of everything for you, essentially making it all-inclusive.

I like Adventures by Disney , which offers small-group travel all over the world facilitated by seasoned guides. All the trip details are taken care of, including experiences, food, lodging, and transportation.

Additionally, Kensington Tours offers luxury private travel where every facet of the trip is meticulously planned for you.

Popular Michigan beach ranked among top 25 in US

Only 1 michigan beach made the list.

Ken Haddad , Digital Managing Editor

A popular Michigan beach has been named one of the best in the country.

Travel + Leisure recently released their list of the top 25 beaches in the U.S., ranked using different factors like:

Recommended Videos

  • Sand quality
  • Level of privacy
  • Public transportation and parking
  • Shaded areas

Only one of Michigan’s beaches cracked the list: Grand Haven State Park .

Here’s what the writers said about it:

“Set on the shores of Lake Michigan, this 48-acre park with powdery white sand offers activities like fat-tire biking, barbecuing, sunbathing, swimming, and volleyball. There’s also a playground for the children, as well as scenic views of the lake and the Grand Haven South Pier and Lighthouses. While away the day on the beach, staying long enough to see a magical, dip-dyed sunset,” T+L wrote.

Most other beaches ranked were along ocean coastlines, including in Hawaii, San Diego, Florida and North Carolina.

Check out the full list of beaches here.

The 50 Best Bars in North America 2024 Were Just Announced

By Charlie Hobbs

Image may contain Pub Alcohol Bar Bar Counter Beverage Person Adult Cup Bartender and Lamp

Since 2022, when World's 50 Best first began ranking North America’s 50 Best Bars, New York City and Mexico City have vied for the top spot. Always the bridesmaid, CDMX's Handshake Speakeasy has earned second place for the last two years in a row (first trailing Attaboy, then Double Chicken Please —both beloved Lower East Side joints). This year, however, the Colonia Juarez cocktail bar takes first place at long last.

While New York City is no longer top dog, its watering holes occupy second, third, and fourth place with Superbueno, Overstory , and Martiny’s, respectively. Rounding out the top five is another Mexico City establishment, Rayo.

Last year’s number one, Double Chicken Please, has fallen to seventh—but New York City continues to house more of North America’s top bars than any other city, with 12 of the US’s 26 entries. The other bars are Katana Kitten (No. 12), Employees Only (No. 15), Dante (No. 20), Attaboy (No. 31), The Dead Rabbit (No. 33), Maison Premiere (No .41), new entry Angel’s Share (No.43), and Milady’s (No.44). With the exception of Maison Premiere in Williamsburg, all of the above bars are located in downtown Manhattan.

So, what is it that pushed Handshake Speakeasy over the top this year? The details are unclear, but the bar—which is notoriously difficult to find, and therefore aptly named—has for one thing maintained its quality with nothing short of steadfast joy. Emma Sleight, 50 Best’s Head of Content, notes in a statement that the bar is “part of a strong cocktail culture in Mexico ” that warrants celebration. Adding to the mystique is bar director Eric van Beek, who with his team cooks up clarified juices, fat-washed spirits, and home-made syrups from a proper alchemist’s laboratory hidden onsite.

There are, as always, superlatives galore to be picked apart from the results. Superbueno earns the title of Disaronno Highest Entry for its debut at number two (the bar opened in early 2023) and in the process also takes the crown as the best bar in the United States. Toronto 's Civil Liberties is the best bar in Canada for the third year in the row (No. 21), while the best bar in the Caribbean is Puerto Rico ’s La Factoría (No. 18). Grand Cayman marks its first entry on the list with Library by the Sea (No. 35)—it was also recognized with the London Essence Best New Opening Award.

Also notable: San Francisco ’s True Laurel (No. 30) takes home the Kettle One Sustainable Bar Award with some much-needed representation for the West Coast ( Los Angeles has two entries, Thunderbolt at No. 8, and Mírate at No. 46.) The 270 members of the voting academy bestowed Claudia Cabrera of Mexico City’s Kaito del Valle with the Roku Industry Icon Award for her work championing female bartenders through her Japanese izakaya-style bar program.

The full list of winners can be found below, to be studied for your next few rounds of drinking on this great continent.

My Secret to Weeks of Free Lodging in Europe

I wanted to stay in apartments or houses—but i was a brand-new college grad on a budget.

This is One Thing , a column with tips on how to live.

After I graduated from college, I knew I wanted to travel for a few months, so I secured a part-time job that could be done remotely. I didn’t want to do my work shifts from a hostel bunk bed or random cafés that stayed open late. (I’d be in Europe, thanks to an EU passport, and my gig was based in the states.) Paying for Airbnbs the entire trip would eat up way too much of my paychecks. It was kismet that just as I was starting to plan my travels, my friend sent me a video about a couple traveling the world and dog-sitting along the way, using an app called Trusted Housesitters .

As an avid dog lover, I thought it was perfect. I paid a little over $100 to make an account, then started browsing housesits around the world. I adorned my profile with pictures of me and the various dogs in my life, and applied for opportunities across the ocean. Before I had even left the United States, I had three gigs set up: I’d spend about 10 days in Scotland and Wales, then three weeks in Amsterdam.

Just like when setting up drinks through a dating app, you do have to be vigilant and pay attention for red flags when talking to potential hosts. My stay in Scotland was less than ideal for many reasons—the situation could have been easily avoided if I had listened to my gut and declined that gig. (The app does do background checks, and there’s an opportunity for both sides to leave reviews, meaning you don’t go in completely unaware.) But the other dog-sits were fantastic. One experience went so well that last fall, I returned to Amsterdam to once again to dog-sit Pretzel, a lovely Maltipoo, while her parents got married and went on their honeymoon.

Although I opted for longer sits abroad, there is also the option to just watch a furry friend stateside for a weekend. (If you do go internationally, be mindful that you might potentially need a work visa.) I just checked the app, and as I’m writing this, there are opportunities available in cities that include Austin, Atlanta, and Boulder.

Of course, you have the responsibility of taking care of someone else’s dog—you need to do some planning and can’t just leave the pet alone all day, and the owners don’t pay you. But the free accommodations feel like a fair exchange to me. I also love that many of the dog-sit locations are in more residential areas, so you’re able to experience local life in whatever city you’re in. Plus, you get to hang with a cute dog. What could be better?

Update, April 29, 2024: This piece has been updated to clarify the documentation needed to housesit internationally.

A brief guide to all the MICHELIN Key hotels in Chicago.

Travel Hotels Chicago MICHELIN Keys

best travel groups on facebook

On April 24, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide announced its very first Key hotels in the United States — a brand new distinction recognizing the most outstanding hotels in the country. We're thrilled to report that in Chicago, eight hotels earned at least One Key. Of those, half make their home in the kinds of historic buildings that give this city its well-earned reputation as one of the most architecturally distinguished cities in the country. Follow Michigan Avenue north from the heart of the Loop to the Gold Coast and you’ll pass within two blocks of all but one of them. The Chicago Athletic Association sits within a Venetian Gothic landmark. The Gwen makes its home in a storied 1929 Art Deco skyscraper. The Pendry sets up shop in the masterpiece that is the 1929 Art Deco Carbide & Carbon Building. And the lower floors of the Viceroy make use of the meticulously-preserved, 1920s-vintage Cedar Hotel. There are Key hotels too in newer builds, among them the Peninsula (with uniformed bellboys and staffers who seem to know the name of each individual guest) and the Waldorf Astoria , its lobby a marble marvel. Below, explore the map and scroll down for more about each of the MICHELIN Guide’s eight hotels in Chicago.
