European Center for Jewish Students

European Center for Jewish Students (ECJS) is drastically changing the landscape of Jewish young adults across Europe. Based in Brussels, ECJS is a non‐profit, apolitical organization which caters to the needs and interests of all Jewish students and young professionals, regardless of background or affiliation. ECJS arrange and subsidize inter‐European retreats and seminars, which hundreds of participants value and enjoy, due to their unique blend of Jewish tradition and European culture. Spearheaded by Executive Director Rabbi Zevi Ives, ECJS has succeeded, though its wide range of innovative effective programs, in uniting young European Jews and fostering in them a strong sense of identity, community and pride.

It’s a challenging time for Jewish communities in Europe. Anti-Semitism is on the rise as populism and the politics of the lowest common denominator are gaining traction. Our communities often need round the clock protection and our practices and customs such as keeping Kosher are under pressure from increasing political interference.

I believe that the key to Jewish continuity in Europe is by connecting the young Jews scattered throughout Europe. By educating, empowering and uniting them we are generating dynamic leaders who take the responsibility of the future of our people personally.

ECJS caters to the needs and interests of all Jewish students and young professionals throughout Europe, regardless of background, affiliation or practice. At ECJS events, these young adults discover, identify with and take pride our unique heritage and family that spans across the globe. The events include several annual European conventions, Israel solidarity trips, and cultural affairs.

ECJS provides educational, social and cultural activities throughout the year. Program highlights include: trips to historical Jewish sites, dynamic Shabbat meals, stimulating lectures on contemporary Jewish issues, and network opportunities for students and young professionals.

ECJS has created a virtual community spanning Europe in which all participants have formed lifelong bonds between one another. The warmth and friendship that are abundant at ECJS programs carries on long after its conclusion continuing to unify young Jews of all walks of life. Hundreds of young adults have formed meaningful relationships with Jewish partners.

ECJS participants become more active in their local Jewish communities and with Jewish life in general. This is the key to Jewish continuity in Europe.

Creativity – Activity – Service

The three pillars of CAS Trips are: Creativity, Activity and Service – inspired by International Baccalaureate pedagogy. CAS Trips harness the power of travel to open students’ minds to the long-term value and possibilities of CAS.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

Every single one of our programs acts on at least four UN SDGs. We analyze destinations and select partner organizations first-hand, using the UN SDGs as a lens to translate experiences into action.

Sustainable Travel

All our programs approach sustainable travel in a holistic way. We include a standard carbon removal on all trips,  and we also strongly believe that economic and social development is just as important when it comes to Sustainability , as taking care of our environment.
