About the prix de l'arc de triomphe.

The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is a prestigious horse race that takes place annually in Paris, France. It is considered one of the most important horse races in the world and is held on the first Sunday in October at Longchamp Racecourse.

The race was first run in 1920 and has since become one of the most popular and competitive horse races in Europe. It covers a distance of 2,400 meters (1.5 miles) and is open to horses aged three years and older. The race is run on turf and features a purse of around €5 million, making it one of the richest horse races in the world.

The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe attracts some of the best horses and jockeys from around the world. It has been won by many of the greatest horses in history, including Sea Bird, Alleged, Dancing Brave, and Enable. The race also features a large and enthusiastic crowd, with thousands of people attending each year to watch the horses race to the finish line.

In recent years, the race has been held at Chantilly Racecourse while Longchamp underwent a major renovation. However, in 2018 the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe returned to its original home at Longchamp Racecourse. The race is an important part of the French sporting and cultural calendar and continues to be one of the most prestigious horse races in the world.

Namibia Desert Safari: Ride to the Sea

I cannot say enough good things about the Rainforest Adventure. The hosts were both wonderful - knowledgeable, friendly, fun and competent. They were always alert to riders and horses and the horses were amazing - well trained, responsive and fun! We loved every minute of it - from waking in the morning to setting down at night under the mosquito nets, it was the perfect balance of fun and relaxation. I would highly recommend this ride!

Newsdate: Friday, June 14, 2024 - 11:30 am Location: LEXINGTON, Kentucky

Amplify Horse Racing is accepting applications for the fall 2024 intake of its Mentorship Program, now through June 30. The program provides an introductory step for youth and young adults who want to learn more about the Thoroughbred industry by matching them with experienced industry professionals who can offer career guidance. The fall session will run from August 1 through October 31.

The suggested age range for mentee candidates is 15-25, with no restrictions based on academic achievement. The program is also accepting potential mentors who can demonstrate substantial and relevant experience in the Thoroughbred horse industry or an applied field, and can meet the program’s minimum training requirements, background check, and time commitment. All applicants must be residents of the United States, U.S. territories, or Canada.

Amplify will host a live-streamed Q&A session for potential mentees and mentors on Facebook, X and YouTube on Thursday, June 20 from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. ET. Viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions in real time about program logistics and timeline, or can submit questions in advance to [email protected]. Schedule a reminder here.

Amplify will also award travel grants to outstanding mentees of 2024 who complete their intake of the program having demonstrated a strong work ethic and dedication to pursuing involvement in the Thoroughbred industry. Award recipients will have the opportunity to travel to Kentucky for a weekend of behind-the-scenes tours in November, and will be recognized at Amplify’s annual youth and young adult Thoroughbred industry networking event.

“I knew that applying for this program could allow me the opportunity to explore future career paths,” said spring 2024 mentee, Grace Conley. “Through my mentorship, I now have connections to people in equine media and communications if I ever need a letter of recommendation or want to apply for an internship. I was also able to meet a lot of different people and see new places that are important to the industry.”

To learn about the program and apply today, prospective mentors and mentees can visit www.amplifyhorseracing.org/mentorship , or contact [email protected] for more information.

The two-year growth of horse racing’s U.S. governing body propelled by tech

Lisa Lazarus knew what it felt like to work at well-established fixtures of the sports industry. Her career path features extended stays with the NFL and the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (the world’s governing body of equine sports). But a little more than two years ago, Lazarus became the first CEO of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority, the new national governing body for a sport that saw $210.7 million bet on this year’s Kentucky Derby alone, with a total of $11.66 billion wagered in 2023, according to horse racing site Equibase. Born out of a 2020 congressional act , HISA needed to grow in every direction while also using a short onramp. It was an experience that somewhat mirrors the infancy of a startup, figuring out the day-to-day operations, how to offer a product and to scale that product. The growth of HISA, Lazarus said, so far has leaned on technology -- through both the constant improvement of its portal and an innovative deal with data firm Palantir Technologies to create a rating system for a horse’s potential risk factor ahead of a race. “I realized very quickly that the opportunity to really make a difference was going to be in the data,” Lazarus told SBJ ahead of this weekend’s Belmont Stakes. “And as much as horse racing was an incredibly data-rich sport, they were unbelievably behind other sports, and the rest of the world, in terms of using that data [for safety] in a sophisticated way.” This approach is one we’ve seen in North American leagues, like the NFL’s ongoing use of AWS for player safety or the NBA’s seasonlong data collection for its workload study. Last year’s,  12 horse deaths occurred in the lead-up to the Kentucky Derby, a tragedy that prompted an emergency summit for HISA and the creation of stricter safety measures -- pausing monetary track-based incentives and start limits, for example. And shortly after, HISA established its connection to Palantir via the Breeders’ Cup and its CEO, Drew Fleming. Lazarus said that HISA needed to turbocharge its process to harness its data faster. Palantir has long served the U.S. intelligence community but has branched into sports, such as its ongoing relationship with Ferrari (which included work with Ferrari in F1 from 2017 to 2022). After a trial project, Lazarus received a major vote of confidence from her technology lead at HISA, Steve Keech, who told her that “with Palantir, I speed up what I’m doing by 18 months” on a specific project. HISA and Palantir announced their collaboration in late 2023. Lazarus didn’t share financials but said it was a five-year deal between the two.

Palantir’s role in racehorse safety

Right now, Palantir’s risk rating system has seen use at 10 tracks. Through the feedback of this soft launch, Lazarus said, HISA has learned how veterinarians are using it as a mapping tool for their inspection loads. She expects the Palantir rating system to roll out to every racetrack in the next couple months. The ratings have produced a couple of instances where vets said they initially wouldn’t have taken a more in-depth look at a horse, only to do so after the ratings prompted a HISA Check (what Lazarus called the Palantir-related checkup), which led to the scratch of a horse. Another benefit of Palantir’s technology will be the constant improvement via machine learning when comparing hypotheses (risk-factor ratings) to outcomes (racing finishes). Lazarus sees HISA’s identity growing into that of a data organization -- a cutting-edge group sitting on more than 2.5 million medical/veterinary records.

Widening the portal

The constant development of HISA’s portal has been a primary focus. Because it's a governing body for a sprawling sport, it needed a system that registered every racetrack as well as every person involved in horse racing. At first, it was a bare-bones offering to input veterinary data. Now, integrations have made for a less labor-intensive user experience, she shared, like pulling info from billing record files to photo or dictation uploads. Lazarus said it was her first time experiencing a portal build, which was daunting. Without a tech background, it made her lean on the expertise of Keech and others to problem-solve. These are two early milestones en route to more tech-infused innovations, Lazarus feels, as HISA works to improve horse racing for animals, jockeys and trainers.
