Jungle Cruise 2 - What We Know So Far

Dwayne Johnson in Jungle Cruise

Disney has a long history of adapting its theme park rides for the big screen, and its latest, " Jungle Cruise ," is another hit for the House of Mouse. Based on the ride of the same name, the movie stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Jack Whitehall as explorers who sail deep into the Amazon jungle to find an ancient tree that grows petals with healing capabilities. Naturally, there are some bad people who want the tree's petals for themselves, and they're not above summoning spirits to aid their cause.

"Jungle Cruise" is a pulpy adventure in the vein of "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Indiana Jones," making it the perfect viewing for the summer movie season. And now that the film has passed the $100 million mark (per The Hollywood Reporter ), Disney is officially moving forward with a sequel. But what can viewers expect from "Jungle Cruise 2" when it eventually arrives on their screens?

When will Jungle Cruise 2 be released?

At the time of this writing, a release date for "Jungle Cruise 2" has yet to be confirmed. The movie is in the very early stages of the pre-production process, so viewers will just have to be patient for now. As Radio Times points out, studio blockbusters tend to take around two years to complete, so the sequel could arrive in 2023 at the earliest.

Of course, the production of "Jungle Cruise 2" could be delayed due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic, as well as the schedules of the film's stars. Dwayne Johnson keeps himself very busy, taking on a lot of roles in tentpole flicks. It remains to be seen if "Jungle Cruise 2" will be his priority now that DC's " Black Adam " has finished shooting. However, chances are he'll want to keep the current "Jungle Cruise" momentum rolling and get the sequel wrapped up while the iron is hot.

Who's in Jungle Cruise 2?

As the "The Hollywood Reporter" notes, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are set to reprise their roles as Frank Wolff and Dr. Lily Houghton, respectively, for the next jungle-faring adventure. While his status for the sequel remains unconfirmed, British comedian Jack Whitehall could return as MacGregor, Lily's younger brother who — often against his better judgment — helps his sibling on her dangerous quests. Whitehall is a big name in the U.K, but "Jungle Cruise 2" is an ideal vehicle for continuing to solidify his presence in Hollywood.

While no other casting announcements have been made official at the time of this writing, the first movie did leave the door open to some interesting possibilities. Given that Frank has a history with Aguirre, Édgar Ramírez might be brought back as the ghostly serpentine villain. While the bad guy was turned to stone at the end of the first "Jungle Cruise," Aguirre's backstory with Frank has only been explored briefly, and the film gave us the impression that the former allies have some unfinished business with each other.

Of course, the "Jungle Cruise" ride has a wealth of interesting characters, and the sequel could feature more of them. With that in mind, expect some fresh faces to appear in "Jungle Cruise 2."

What's the plot of Jungle Cruise 2?

Details about the plot for "Jungle Cruise 2" are being kept under wraps for now, but the good news is that the story is in trustworthy hands. Michael Green, who co-wrote the first film, will pen the script for the next installment. Jaume Collet-Serra is reportedly set to return to the director's chair as well.

According to Digital Spy , the sequel could feature a fish-out-of-water story for Frank now that he's been brought out of the jungle and forced to navigate 1920s London. Additionally, "Jungle Cruise 2" could explore MacGregor's story more after he came out as gay in the first film. However, this was only tacitly implied and the word "gay" is never actually said, so perhaps the next movie could be an opportunity to give MacGregor a positive LGBTQ+ love story and spend more time developing his character.

Regardless of the direction "Jungle Cruise 2" goes in, viewers can look forward to another family-friendly adventure that puts the film's heroes in a perilous situation. And with Frank definitely set to play a huge part, he'll undoubtedly have plenty of corny jokes to share along the way.

Jungle Cruise 2 has been confirmed — here's what you need to know about the sequel

Welcome to the jungle (again, again)

preview for Jungle Cruise trailer 2 (Disney)

Many expected that Jungle Cruise would, like most films of its ilk, have a post-credits scene that teased a potential sequel. However, this Disney movie has proven itself to be the exception to the rule.

Despite the lack of a post-credits tease, Disney has confirmed that a sequel is in the works! Given its performance , it seemed pretty inevitably. What can we expect for Lily, MacGregor, and Skippy — err, we mean Frank — in Jungle Cruise 2 ? We'll tell you, but warning: Jungle Cruise spoilers follow .

Jungle Cruise 2 cast: Will Emily Blunt, Dwayne Johnson, and Jack Whitehall return?

The short answer is yes . Blunt and Johnson will return as Frank the skipper and Dr Lily Houghton. While there's been no official word on Whitehall's return as Lily's brother, given he's already tweeted his excitement for the sequel we imagine this means he's on board (sorry.)

Michael Green, who co-wrote the first film, is set to pen the sequel. It hasn't been confirmed, but we imagine director Jaume Collet-Serra will return (though he's currently busy with Black Adam ), along with the movie's producing team and executive producer.

Jungle Cruise 2 plot: What will Jungle Cruise 2 be about?

While there's plenty of room to explore further stories within the Disney Adventure Theme Park Universe (which is as sprawling as the MCU ), we imagine Jungle Cruise 2 will keep its focus on the trio that made the first film a success.

Lily's goal was to research the healing properties of the flower she acquired during the first film, so the sequel could be another MacGuffin chase for the next phase of her research. What we'd love to see though, is a fish out of water story about Frank, a man who hadn't left the Amazon River since the 1500s, in London in the 1920s.

dwayne johnson and emily blunt, jungle cruise

Another storyline we'd want to see explored is McGregor's. The character is (arguably) Disney's first explicitly gay character — despite the fact that his coming out moment never includes the word 'gay' — and a sequel would be a great chance for Disney to explore a potential romance for him.

Of course, they could go the Pirates route and reveal that Aguirre, the film's big bad and another conquistador, isn't actually turned to stone at the end — or somehow he's revived and freed of the curse like Frank was — and seeks his revenge on Frank, Lily, and MacGregor.

Jungle Cruise 2 would likely take place in the intervening years between the first and second World Wars, but we highly doubt Disney will go the full Indiana Jones Nazi baddie route, especially given they've already had a German baddie in the first film. This is all speculation for now, but you can be sure that whatever updates Johnson throws our way, we'll be all over.

Jungle Cruise 2 release date: When will the sequel be out?

Given the sequel was only just announced, and Blunt and Johnson are already working on another film together , we're likely going to be waiting a while. This also means it's going to be quite a wait for a trailer.

Jungle Cruise is out in UK and US cinemas now and on Disney+ Premier Access.

Ulraviolent Indian Action Movie With 92% RT Score Is Getting A Hollywood Remake From John Wick Producers

Why warcraft 2 never happened, denzel washington's gladiator 2 character explained: everything we know about macrinus, why jungle cruise producer is confident for disney movie sequel.

Jungle Cruise   producer Hiram Garcia confirms that the blockbuster movie's sequel is in the works. Inspired by the well-loved Disney theme park attraction of the same name,  Jungle Cruise  tells the story of a riverboat captain who reluctantly guides a scientist through the Amazon jungle in search of the mythical Tree of Life. The fantasy adventure film was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starred Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

Jungle Cruise was 17 years in the making, having been in development since 2004. After multiple revisions, production finally pushed through in 2018. It was initially slated for a 2019-2020 release but got delayed due to COVID-19. It finally opened simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ on July 30, 2021. The movie grossed $220 million worldwide against a $200 million production budget. Its success provides the groundwork for future installments, and a Jungle Cruise sequel has already been confirmed with Johnson and Blunt reprising their roles.

In a recent interview with  Collider ,  Garcia revealed that  Jungle Cruise 2  is currently in development. Garcia worked on the original film through Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions, which co-produced the movie with Disney. He confirmed that they are already working with a team of writers for the sequel. According to the producer, they already have a working premise for the story and are just waiting for the go-signal to head into production. He also said that director Collet-Serra will be back to helm the exciting project. Read his comments below:

"We have an idea of what we want for the story, and we're [in] the process of just pushing that along and honing it. But, yeah, it's an ongoing process, and we are cooking with it, and it is in development. It's part of the game of this business where our job as producers is to keep several boulders moving and we're pushing each one up just a little bit at a time every day trying to get it over the hill ready to go to be green-lit and shot. Jungle Cruise is one of those that's a priority, and we spend a lot of time pushing that boulder every day."

Interestingly,  Jungle Cruise  opened to mixed reviews  with critics saying that its plot has been seen many times in films from the same genre. However, audiences loved the movie for its family-friendly entertainment value. Many viewers also praised Johnson and Blunt's brilliant performances. Despite the opposing reviews, Jungle Cruise is considered to be a commercial success. Given the circumstances brought about by the pandemic, the movie's day-and-date release was a hit both at the box office and on Disney+. More importantly, its achievement lies in the fact that it proved moviegoers were ready to enjoy the cinemas once again, paving the way for other films to follow suit.

It can be said that the upcoming Jungle Cruise   sequel, which Garcia emphasized as a "priority" project for both Disney and Johnson's production, is a make-or-break film. If Johnson and Blunt's chemistry performs well at the box office again, it could usher another mega-franchise for Disney  much like Pirates of the Caribbean .  This time around, fans hopefully don't have to wait years before the much-anticipated second installment hits the big screen.

Jungle Cruise 2: 5 Quick Things We Know About The Disney Movie

Disney is taking us on a Jungle Cruise adventure once again.

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in The Jungle Cruise.

With how popular Disney's many live-action films have been for so long, it was only a matter of time before they decided to create another movie that’s full of fun, fantasy, and adventure. This time, it was Jungle Cruise , a fun adventure based on the theme park ride of the same name.

With a successful box office and positive reviews, it seemed that it would only be a matter of time before a sequel was announced. Luckily, we have some answers to some of your biggest questions on the matter of a Jungle Cruise 2 sequel, which is now on the list of upcoming Dwayne Johnson movies and Emily Blunt movies , so get ready.

Jungle Cruise 2 Is Confirmed - But There’s No Set Release Date

If you’ve been wondering if we’re going to see our favorite adventurers again, fear not, because it’s been confirmed that Jungle Cruise 2 is happening, according to The Hollywood Reporter , and joining Disney’s ongoing upcoming films list.

However, even if the announcement has come out, there is no set release date as to when this sequel will premiere. This isn’t much of a surprise, considering it was only just announced a couple of months ago and filming is very unlikely to have started at this point, but it’s good to know that sooner or later, we’ll be returning to the jungle as if we had never left. It won’t be on any 2021 new movie releases , but, hopefully, we’ll get some more updates on it soon.

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in Jungle Cruise.

Dwayne Johnson And Emily Blunt Will Return

Another great piece of news is that both stars of the original film, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt , are set to return in Jungle Cruise 2 , as noted in The Hollywood Reporter article from earlier.

Dwayne Johnson played Frank Wolff, a steamboat skipper who reluctantly agrees to guide two explorers on a quest for the mythical Tree of Life. Emily Blunt played Dr. Lily Houghton, an adventurous and virtuous botanist working in a male-dominated field who goes on the quest to find the tree to harness its power for modern-day medicine.

I found Johnson and Blunt’s chemistry very enjoyable in the adventure film and they worked well off of each other, so hearing that they’re going to be coming back together makes this fan very happy. It’s unknown who else from the original cast might still come along, but as time goes on, I’m sure we’ll find out more.

Jungle Cruise 2 Producer Says That Johnson And Blunt’s Characters Are Going To Have Fun, Exciting Stories In The Sequel

At the end of Jungle Cruise, it seems like there wasn’t much adventure left to explore in their quest, so what exactly were they going to do now that that journey is over?

Thankfully, that’s exactly what Jungle Cruise 2 producer, Hiram Garcia, predicted fans would want to know, and said that the sequel has unlimited possibilities in an exclusive interview with ScreenRant .

Now that the fans have embraced us and have been asking for a sequel, we really start to have fun! We've met these two characters who share amazing chemistry and the world is at our disposal. We're talking about a lot of big, fun concepts that take us to different places in the world. Who knows what mysteries and supernatural things these guys are going to encounter? I can't give anything away, but I can tell you we are bringing the whole team back. Through the first film, we formed great friendships and love and I think this will continue for the sequel. Our established relationships are going to benefit the film even more. We're excited with all the ideas we've been brainstorming on and we’re determined to get going as fast as possible.

Just hearing that gets me so pumped for the next film, and the possibilities that it might bring. Is Jungle Cruise going to turn into another awesome Pirates of the Caribbean franchise where we get to explore the world? I’m so excited to see what is next.

Jaume Collet-Serra Is Expected Back To Direct, As Well As Michael Green To Pen The Script

Via the same The Hollywood Reporter article from before, it’s also been reported that Jaume Collet-Serra , who directed the first Jungle Cruise, will return to direct the sequel.

Jaume Collet-Sera is a director with a plethora of intriguing films in his catalogue, including the horror films House of Wax, Orphan, and The Shallows. He’s also been the director of some of the best Liam Neesen movies , such as Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night, and The Commuter.

With how great Jungle Cruise ended up turning out, it’s no surprise that he is expected to return. It seems that Collet-Sera has actually gotten along with Dwayne Johnson quite well, as he’s also directing the upcoming DC film, Black Adam , in which Dwayne Johnson also stars.

Michael Green, who also penned some of the script for the first Jungle Cruise, is expected to return to write. Green has also been quite active in Hollywood, writing for a plethora of super fun films, such as Hugh Jackman 's last Wolverine film, Logan, the long-awaited sequel Blade Runner 2049, a remake of one of the best mystery movies , 2017's Murder on the Orient Express, as well as another murder mystery coming out next year, Death on the Nile.

With such talented creatives back for the sequel, I have a feeling that Jungle Cruise 2 is going to be just as entertaining and fun as the first.

Dwayne Johnson Is Eager To Get Started On Jungle Cruise 2

Dwayne Johnson is about just as excited as you are for the upcoming sequel. Reacting to the news, Johnson posted on his Instagram that he was eager to get back to work, and thanks the fans for watching  Jungle Cruise so that it could get a sequel.

Em & I raisin’ a glass to you in celebration of our official JUNGLE CRUISE SEQUEL. THANK YOU and your families around the world for discovering and loving our film ~ in theaters and in your living rooms. And a HUGE MAHALO for making JUNGLE CRUISE cross that $100M mark at the US box office. JUNGLE CRUISE is only the 4th movie of 2021 to achieve that milestone. Not an easy accomplishment these days, so thank you guys so much! Let’s get this sequel on the road….Jaume Collet-Serra back to direct. Michael Green back to write. And I get to tag along as Emily Blunt’s sidekick.

Emily Blunt actually doesn’t have any social media, but if he’s ready to work on the sequel, I’m sure she’s just as eager to start working as well - and boss around Dwayne Johnson some more in the upcoming film.
