Question: Why did a generation of people choose my songs as the backdrop to their life? 

The answer is: I don’t know. But I’d like to find out. 

I’ve always been fascinated by family. I see the way a lovely relationship blossoms over the years and that thrills me. I wonder why two people grow together and their bonds become stronger. And when I look at my career as a singer/songwriter, I see the same thing. The relationship between me and you is just as special, it’s just as beautiful. Just as I see family staying together over the decades, I see us staying together for 30 or 40 years. So I ask myself this: what compels people to stay with an artist over such a long period of time? What is it about my work that keeps tapping people on their shoulders? 

Music is important. It’s the thing that lives in the space as life is unfolding. And some of the music from the early part of my career, in Wet Wet Wet, has lived on for two generations. People love those songs and that’s why we still play them. My next tour will be the songs from Popped In, Souled Out and the tour will be a beast – it will be 75 people on stage and five trucks, and enough caterers to feed a small army. The Lost Chapter, in comparison, is a whisper. It’ll give people the chance to see the other side of me, as a songwriter, and to find out a different part of my make-up. 

When we toured Pellow Talk, people went away knowing a lot more about me. And now that we’re touring The Lost Chapter, people will walk away knowing more about my music – my tastes, my loves, and who I am as a singer/songwriter. 

Here’s the thing: I think the best experiences come when we are willing to give a little piece of ourselves. They happen by chance when we’re willing to invest. So I’m asking you to invest a couple of hours of your time in this show, to go somewhere you might not be expecting, and to enjoy that time with me. 

The one thing you can always rely on with me is a great sense of melody and an entertaining evening. So The Lost Chapter won’t be about shoegazing or looking at the floor. You’re not going to come expecting an ice cream and then be served a beef bhuna. But the quality of a musician’s work isn’t dictated by the chart position. If that was the case, I’d have stopped many years ago. Sometimes, the best work is the stuff that gets left on the cutting room floor, it’s the stuff that people are too afraid to share, or too insecure to release. Until now… 

The Lost Chapter is about music but even more than that, it’s about feelings. The evening will have a happy song, a deep song, a song that will transport you. When I was a kid – and, I’m sure, when you were kids – we’d go round to each other’s houses and we’d listen to each other’s records. We’d find out what each other was into over the course of a few hours. And The Lost Chapter will be a bit like that – the only difference being that, as I’m a singer/songwriter, some of those songs will be mine. By the end of the evening, we’ll have shared our music, shared our stories, and shared our emotions. We’ll go home richer for the experience, knowing one another more. 

The wee record that lives in the book was recorded at the start of summer 2023, over 48 hours, with three other musicians. Some of those tunes will be recognisable to some fans – though the versions they’ll hear now are different to the ones they’ve heard before. And I’ll explain why that is – because sometimes, less is more. The bravest thing is to walk away. You don’t need to put cinnamon in the stew. You can leave it be. 

I’ll leave you with one final image. When people talk about women who are naturally beautiful, they say things like this: ‘She doesn’t need that make-up,’ or ‘She doesn’t need to dress up like that,’ or ‘She should just let herself be her.’ And that’s what The Lost Chapter is. It’s about the beauty of the music – it’s about stripping it down rather than dressing it up. It's about me holding your hand and walking you through an evening of song. I hope you enjoy it.

The Wet Wet Wet star has announced a make-over of his 2022 tour and has renamed it 'Pellow Talk - The Lost Chapter'.

Marti Pellow has reimagined his 2022 tour renaming it Pellow Talk - The Lost Chapter, announcing a string of new dates for 2023.

The new dates will see Pellow perform in 25 venues across the UK, including Aberdeen, Barrow, Milton Keynes, Lichfield, Fleet and Stratford Upon Avon.

Taking to his official website to announce the new show dates, Marti Pellow said he was overjoyed with the response to his 2022 tour.

"I’ve been thrilled with the response to Pellow Talk . It has been the most intimate show I’ve done," he said.

"I wanted to do some more shows in this way and The Lost Chapter is a reimagined show that connects you, the audience, with me, the songwriter.

The Wet Wet Wet singer's stage show is an intimate theatre show set in a 1970s sitting room – much like the one he grew up in – where he talks about his life, addictions, music making and stardom, interspersed with live singing of some of his most famous hits.

Reviews have lauded the production, with one saying it "takes the audience on an... extraordinary journey."

"The narrative is swathed in the most beautiful music – and, happily, in unexpected song choices that show his range as a singer. There are moments when you can hear a pin-drop, so refined and dreamy are his vocals," said the Express and Star, adding there is vulnerability to the moving production.

Pellow Talk for fans as Marti heads for Midlands

Heart-throb Marti Pellow will visit Telford, Walsall and Stourbridge this autumn as part of an up-close-and-personal tour.

The singer, who shipped millions of records with Wet Wet Wet before conquering London's West End and New York's Broadway, is planning an intimate tour called Pellow Talk.

He'll be telling stories about his career in a show that is peppered with music.

The star will feature at Telford Oakengates Theatre on September 30, Stourbridge Town Hall on October 2 and Walsall's Art Centre on October 27. Meet and greet packages for most venues on his 39-date tour sold out in minutes.

The singer said he was looking forward to his Pellow Talk concerts.

Marti said: "The fans have never seen me like this before. They’ve never been this close.

"I’m inviting them to spend an intimate evening with me. Think of it as coming back to my place for a night of stories and songs.

"Pellow Talk is a chance to learn all about me, not just as a singer and songwriter with Wet Wet Wet, but as a boy and a man. It’s a chance to understand the DNA of the hits that we’ve listened to and loved over the years.

"The evening will be wrapped in music, from songs you know to ones you’ll get to know. There’ll be laughter as we travel from the banks of the River Clyde to the top of the charts, then onto Broadway and beyond."

The star will be revealing more about the tour later in the year, but added: "There’ll be no mask and no character. This is me, Marti, stepping out of the shadows, speaking directly to the fans. The invitation is there. I hope they come and spend some time with me. Enough living has been done for a life to unfold. Enough years have passed for a story to be told."

Audio description is a live commentary interspersed with the actors' dialogue. This is relayed via a headset linked to the infra-red audio system. There is a short 'programme notes' session, before the production, which explains the atmosphere, costumes, characters and action.

Signed performances are ideal for those who use sign language. Trained British Signed Language (BSL) signers usually stand to one side of the stage and interpret the script used by the performers at the same time as it is being performed.

R Relaxed Screening/Performance

Open to everyone, but particularly appropriate for anyone who may find the usual theatre/cinema environment challenging, due to an Autism Spectrum Condition, a learning disability, or a fear of the dark, loud noises or confined spaces.

Relaxed Performances/Screenings provide a relaxed environment, where elements are adapted to reduce anxiety or stress. Lighting and sound levels are adjusted to soften their impact and there is a relaxed attitude to noise and leaving and re-entering the auditorium during the performance/screening.

Designated 'chill-out' areas are provided outside the auditorium with activities for people to use if being in the auditorium becomes overwhelming for them.

T Touch Tour

A Touch Tour is ideal for blind and partially-sighted audiences to familiarise themselves with the set ahead of the performance.

C Captioned Screening/Performance

Captions display dialogue on-screen (similar to subtitles) and also describe the audio or sound portion of a film/performance allowing audience members who are D/deaf or hard of hearing to follow the script and the action of the film/performance at the same time.

For live performances, the screen is positioned at the side of the stage.
