Saisonstart für die 3. Mann Tour in Wien

Auf den spuren von filmbösewicht orson wells in „der dritte mann“ – wien kanal feiert heuer 100-jähriges jubiläum.

Wien (OTS) - Das Wiener Kanalnetz war ein Drehort des Kinoklassikers „Der dritte Mann“, der 1949 in London Premiere hatte. Ab 2. Mai können Interessierte wieder in die Kanalisation zu den Originalschauplätzen abtauchen. Dabei erhalten sie Einblicke in die Filmwelt von damals und in den heutigen Arbeitsalltag der Wien Kanal-Mitarbeiter*innen. „Die „3. Mann Tour“ im Kanal zählt jährlich rund 19.000 Besucher*innen und ist ein Highlight für Gäste aus aller Welt und für die Wiener*innen selbst“, so Klimastadtrat Jürgen Czernohorszky.

Die Führung startet vis-à-vis vom Café Museum im Esperantopark am Karlsplatz. Gekennzeichnet ist der Einstieg durch ein überdimensionales rotes Betonkanalgitter samt weit sichtbaren Leuchtbuchstaben „3. Mann Tour“. Sie weisen den Weg sieben Meter in die Tiefe - in den Wiener Untergrund. Kanalarbeiter*innen führen 50 Minuten mit spannenden Erzählungen und erstaunlichen Fakten durch ein heute modernes Abwassersystem in historischen Gemäuern.

Heuer steht der Saisonstart unter besonderen Vorzeichen, denn der städtische Kanalbetrieb wird 100 Jahre alt. Seit ihrer Kommunalisierung im Jahr 1923 hat sich die Unternehmung der Stadt Wien zu einer wichtigen Säule der öffentlichen Daseinsvorsorge entwickelt. „Wien Kanal trägt wesentlich zur Gesundheit und Sicherheit der Wienerinnen und Wiener wie auch zum Umweltschutz bei“, betont Czernohorszky.

Bei der Tour wird daher großes Augenmerk auf den bewussten Umgang mit den Abwasseranlagen gelegt. Die Abwasserprofis von Wien Kanal fischen täglich 20.000 kg Müll aus den unterirdischen Röhren – Müll, der dort nichts verloren hat. „Wir haben in Wien ein bestens ausgebautes Angebot für die richtige Müllentsorgung, Kanal und Klo müssen nicht als Mistkübel verwendet werden. Wir alle können hier einen Beitrag zum Klimaschutz leisten. Meine Bitte an jede Wienerin und jeden Wiener lautet: Spül keinen Müll!“, so Czernohorszky.

Große Filmgeschichte in Wien

Die „3. Mann Tour“ verbindet Informationen über technologische Innovationen mit großer (Film-)Geschichte. Gedreht wurden Szenen des Thrillers „Der dritte Mann“, der ein düsteres Wien der Nachkriegszeit zeichnet, im November 1948 im so genannten Cholerakanal unter dem Karlsplatz. Der Einstieg ist wohl auch der berühmteste Kanaldeckel der Welt. Die Verfolgungsjagd von Orson Wells alias Harry Lime auf der Kinoleinwand machte nicht nur die Wiener Kanalisation bekannt. Noch immer genügen nur drei Takte Zithermusik, um die Dritte-Mann-Melodie zu erkennen. Die Musik stammt aus der Feder des Wiener Heurigenmusikers Anton Karas und verhalf ihm zu Weltruhm. Die Film-Besetzung kann sich immer noch sehen lassen: Joseph Cotten, Orson Welles, Alida Valli, Anni Rosar und Paul Hörbiger spielen in dem Thriller, der bis heute übrigens regelmäßig im Wiener Burgkino gezeigt wird.

Informationen zur Kanaltour

Führungen gibt es von 2. Mai bis 31. Oktober, Donnerstag bis Sonntag, zwischen 10:00 und 20:00 Uhr. Die Touren finden zu jeder vollen Stunde statt, die letzte Führung beginnt um 19:00 Uhr. Aufgrund der großen Nachfrage werden Reservierungen dringend empfohlen. Der Wunschtermin kann bequem über www.drittemanntour.at gebucht werden. Englischsprachige Führungen finden jeweils um 15 Uhr und nach Vereinbarung statt. Bitte beachten Sie das Mindestalter von 12 Jahren für einen Besuch im Kanal!

Museum, Kino und Walk

Zur Einstimmung vor der „3. Mann Tour“ im Kanal empfiehlt sich ein Besuch im BURGKINO , wo der Thriller regelmäßig zwei bis drei Mal pro Woche gezeigt wird. Termine: www.burgkino.at/movie/third-man

Nur einen Spaziergang vom Kanal über den Naschmarkt entfernt, in der Pressgasse 25 im 4. Bezirk, befindet sich die größte Privatsammlung zum Film „Der dritte Mann“. Carol Reeds Filmklassiker spielt aber nicht nur im Wiener Kanalsystem. Die rund zweieinhalbstündige Führung von WALK folgt Harry Limes Spuren auf den gepflasterten Straßen Wiens. Dabei werden die wichtigsten Drehorte besucht, vom Film erzählt und vom „anderen“ Wien der Nachkriegszeit berichtet – Kriegsruinen, Besatzung, Schwarzmarkt und Ost-West-Spionage.

Vom Kanal aufs Riesenrad

Eine Kooperation gibt es wieder mit dem Wiener Riesenrad. Beim 1947 wieder in Betrieb genommenen Wiener Wahrzeichen wurde die Szene gedreht, in der Holly Martins zum ersten Mal mit dem tot geglaubten Harry Lime spricht. Mit jedem Ticket für die Kanalisation erhalten Besucher*innen der Kanaltour einen Ermäßigungsgutschein für eine Fahrt mit dem Riesenrad. Statt 13,50 Euro bezahlen Sie nur 12,00 Euro für das unvergessliche Erlebnis hoch über den Dächern Wiens.

Wien Kanal - Die Abwasserprofis

Rund 450 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter halten das Kanalnetz funktionsfähig und sauber. So werden zum Beispiel täglich bis zu 20 Tonnen abgelagertes Material aus den Kanälen geräumt, um den Abfluss zur Kläranlage zu garantieren. 99,8 Prozent aller Haushalte in Wien sind an das städtische Kanalnetz angeschlossen. Trotzdem wächst das Wiener Kanalnetz jährlich um rund zehn Kilometer. Mehr als 700 Kanalbaustellen werden jedes Jahr zur Erhaltung und Reparatur durchgeführt. Durchschnittlich fünf Kilometer Kanal werden unterirdisch, also nahezu aufgrabungsfrei saniert. Unterirdisch sind auch die Roboter von Wien Kanal unterwegs. Allein im vergangenen Jahr haben sie mehr als 200 Kilometer im Abwasserlabyrinth zurückgelegt und die Rohre auf Beschädigungen untersucht.

Over the past week, students at dozens of universities held demonstrations, set up encampments and, at times, seized academic buildings. In response, administrators at many of those colleges decided to crack down and called in the local police to detain and arrest demonstrators.

As of Thursday, the police had arrested 2,000 people across more than 40 campuses, a situation so startling that President Biden could no longer ignore it.

Jonathan Wolfe, who has been covering the student protests for The Times, and Peter Baker, the chief White House correspondent, discuss the history-making week.
