Girls Trip!: Oprah Winfrey And Gayle King Take A Hilarious Joy Ride

Oprah Winfrey and her best friend Gayle King have hit the road for a hilarious girls road trip. 

Part one of their three-part series, The OG Chronicles: Joy Ride , is out now and follows the gal pals as they take a "multi-stop adventure through Santa Barbara" and bring their fans all the laughs, Oprah Daily reports.

It's been 15-years since the besties hopped into a red Chevy Impala and made the trek from Santa Barbara, California, to New York City. The trip was filmed for an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show back in 2006.

This time, they are visiting some of their favorite people in the city. 

King, who is behind the wheel, came with a few wisecracking comments as they made their way to their destinations in a Lexus ES 350 F Sport. 

“Tell the people: You don't like to merge,” King tells Winfrey. “You don't like to pass cars! You don't like to be on the highway!”

“That’s why I’m not driving,” Winfrey responds. 

During their excursion, fans learn some interesting facts about the longtime friends, and in case you didn't know, King has tagged along with Winfrey and her partner Stedman Graham on every vacation the couple has taken since 1983. 

“The three of us have had a wonderful time,” King said. “If I was the third wheel, I didn't know it! If Stedman didn't like me, that would've been tough.” 

Part two and three of The OG Chronicles: Joy Ride will air every Thursday for the rest of September.

Oprah and Gayle take ‘joy ride’ 15 years after famous road trip

TV-icon best friends Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King are hitting the road again, 15 years after their cross-country ‘Oprah’ road trip.

Television icons Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King are on the road again, 15 years after their cross-country trek was broadcast as part of the 21st season of Winfrey’s eponymous daytime show.

The two best friends left Santa Barbara, California in the summer of 2006 in a Chevy Impala to drive across America’s states and end up in New York City 10 days later — just in time for the Tony Awards. The recorded trip was an absolute fan-favorite, with dozens of hilarious moments as the friends traversed the nation.

Now they are headed on a short road trip through Santa Barbara, where Winfrey lives, for something called “The OG Chronicles: Joy Ride.” The three-part event will air on OprahDaily.com.

In the trailer that was posted Thursday, King says, “After the year we’ve had, we thought a drive around the neighborhood with a friend seems joyful. A joy ride through Santa Barbara surprising some of our favorite people.”

The pair will be dropping in on some “Oprah Insiders” — subscribers to Oprah Daily. The $50 annual subscription provides “insider-only” exclusive content, unlimited access to a 10-year, searchable digital archive of past issues of O, The Oprah Magazine , as well as a weekly newsletter that includes special deals and discounts.

The subscription also comes with one year of O Quarterly , which is the new premium print edition formerly known as O , which ceased publication last year.

Members also get invitations to private Winfrey and King video live streams — like the joy ride itself.

King recently told Entertainment Tonight she and Winfrey often travel together, usually with Winfrey’s partner Stedman Graham.

“I’m a proud third wheeler,” the CBS This Morning co-host admitted. “I make no apologies for that. I got divorced back in 1994, and I’ve been their third wheel ever since. The good news is that Stedman is always very welcoming, so it never occurs to me when she says, ‘We’re going to so and so,’ I’m like, ‘When?’ It doesn’t occur to me that I’m not invited. But throughout the years, we’ve gone on some great trips together. And that’s not gonna change.”

In this episode of “The OG Chronicles,” the two are discussing trip traps—like the nagging mother-in-law, the always-late friend, or the untrustworthy boyfriend—and how to deal.

Everyone’s favorite duo is back. “ The OG Chronicles ”—a series in which Oprah and Gayle answer reader questions, chat about trends, and delightfully riff off each other—has made its glorious return.

In this new episode, Oprah and Gayle are taking questions all about a timely subject: travel. Having been friends for decades, the pair have gone on many a trip together (their cross-country road trip was the subject of the last “OG Chronicles”— watch it here —and earlier this year, they visited a wellness retreat in Italy together). But, as Oprah and Gayle explain in the video, they each have a distinct approach to travel.

“We love to go on trips together, but we are totally different travelers,” Gayle says before taking a beat. “I didn’t write that line... You think we’re totally different travelers?” she says to Oprah—who responds, no hesitation, “Yeah, we are totally different travelers.”

Oprah goes on to share where they diverge: Gayle loves the exploration part of traveling—going into town, shopping, and seeing what the locale has to offer. Oprah would rather find herself a sunny spot on the hotel balcony or pool to read and soak in some vitamin D.

“If she’s been to the town 10 times already—it’s the same shops,” Oprah says. “I still like to go,” Gayle answers.

After agreeing to disagree, Oprah and Gayle dig into some questions from Oprah Daily readers—and you’re going to want to take their advice. They cover a handful of tricky situations, like, for example, what to do if traveling with your new husband...and his can’t-stop-complaining mother.

Plus: How to travel with your adult children—when they never offer to pay for anything; whether to be worried about your boyfriend going on a rowdy bachelor trip (hint: if you don’t trust him at home, that’s a bigger issue); and what to do with a friend who’s always late . “I have left some people on the tarmac,” Oprah says to that last one.

The duo wraps up with a question about their most memorable vacation. For both of them, their most recent trip to Italy reigns supreme. “This last vacation was so meaningful to me because it was a full-circle moment to be able to take all of my friends on vacation,” Oprah says. Gayle King  and  Oprah Winfrey  are back on the road again! The duo recently took a trip together to Jordan, which they shared with their Instagram followers.

"Visited Jordan this week, and there was so much to see and experience," Winfrey captioned her Instagram post on Sunday night, joking that "it takes 3 days to really see it all" but she and King "only spent 3 hours." 

"We visited the site where John the Baptist baptized Jesus, Petra and all its fascinations, camels, and the spot where the big boulder comes rolling out of Indiana Jones. So much history there in the 'Rose City,' voted one of the 7 new wonders of the world," Winfrey wrote. "Put it on your must see list if you haven’t already!"

Winfrey's gallery of photos features the best friends exploring the desert and all it had to offer, including the camels. In one photo, the former talk show host poses beside the working animal, giving the camera a duck face to rival that of the resting camel.

Meanwhile, King shared a different perspective of the trip, sharing a behind-the-scenes video of their journey to the Dead Sea. In the video, the  CBS Mornings  host prepares for a Dead Sea "float and mud bath," clad in a bathing suit and shower cap. "It feels great," King says as she's covered in mud before heading into the water. "I do wish it wasn't raining, but it feels great. We're at the Dead Sea, people. We have to do it!" 

It's clear that Winfrey also had some feelings about the rain considering that, when the camera pans to feature her, she's standing several feet away from King, sheltered under an umbrella and fully clothed. Waving from under her umbrella, Winfrey jokes that she's "doing just fine" as she watches her friends get ready to jump into the water. 

"I have a facial at two-thirty," she adds to the laughter of the group, before announcing that she's going to "mosey on back, my purse is getting wet."

King also posted some photos of herself posing with Michelle Miller's new book, "Belonging," which she'd been reading while on the trip.

She captioned the post, "On the road in Jordan! reading a GREAT book in the middle of the sidewalk as one does. Bravo @michellemiller29 your book BELONGING is knock out! I've always admired you and now I give you a standing ovation what a story you have to tell...I'm only half way through your life journey... and journey is the word here..."
