Safari tent in Herefordshire: Embrace slowing down in nature’s paradise at this enchanting glamping abode nestled along the bank of the River Wye. Where you can spend your days exploring wonderful Herefordshire before returning for some magical riverside dining.

River Safari

7.3 miles W of Hereford

Sleeps 4 | dog friendly

From £130 per night

Rewild and connect with nature at River Safari. Listen to the gentle babble of the River Wye flowing past your hidden retreat, as birds sing their morning melody… providing the most peaceful soundscape. Dine alfresco along the river bank before lighting the fire pit and getting cosy under the blankets until the stars twinkle above. Share stories, toast marshmallows or simply gaze up at the stars. Head inside your rustic abode to find a beautiful open plan living space, sumptuous double bed and sweet bunk beds for the little ones… the perfect family glamping getaway!

Full description

Step inside.

River Safari pays respect to a traditional style of glamping; one where you switch off from the outside world, share stories beside flickering flames, and spend quality time with the ones you love most. Wander across the bridge to reach your secluded retreat situated in a bow of the River Wye. Upon entering the hideaway, you’ll discover a sociable open plan living space complete with rustic wooden furnishings and all the necessities for your glamping getaway. The warming wood-burner will keep you nice and toasty on those cooler eves, and the comfy sofa is an inviting spot for an afternoon snooze! To the left, discover the sweet kitchen area, complete with a gas 2 ring hob, gas oven and fridge with ice-box. Here, you will love rustling up a family feast to be enjoyed at the lovely dining table. As the day draws to a close, younger guests can get snug in their bunk beds, closing the curtains to create a little den! The main bedroom is nestled to the back of the tent, complete with a gorgeous hand-crafted wooden bed. Drift off into a sweet slumber before waking to the sound of birdsong… bliss!

You’ll find a separate shower-room in the blue hut next to the tent. It‘s beautifully presented and provides the perfect spot to freshen up after a wild dip in the River Wye!

You will simply adore spending your days roaming the lush green garden area, taking trips through the orchard down to the river, beloved pooch in tow! Get lost in a good read in the dappled sunlight beneath the trees, listening to the gentle flow of the river. Play family games and make the most of spending some quality time together in nature’s paradise. Enjoy breakfast alfresco on the picnic bench beside the tent, or head down to the riverside on a balmy summer's eve and rustle up a feast over the firepit! There’s easy access for canoes and fishing available (at an additional cost). Toast marshmallow until your heart's content and stay snuggled beside flickering flames until the embers soften. Here, you will make magical memories that last a lifetime.

Eco-features

Spend quality time with your loved ones and embrace a digital detox at River Safari, as there is no WiFi available. It is totally off-grid, a real escape to the wild!

We wouldn’t blame you for wanting to spend your days at River Safari, going on woodland trails and foraging for goods. If you do decide to venture out there is also plenty to discover nearby. Herefordshire boasts a variety of wild landscapes…Canoe the River Wye, go on a countryside ramble or explore its winding country lanes by bike. For independent shops, delicious eateries and a whole load of history, head into the Cathedral city of Hereford. Settled on the River Wye, have a picnic by the water or marvel at the golden-stone Cathedral. Visit the Old Market for open-air shopping, dining and cinema or head to The Courtyard Hereford for theatre, comedy and art workshops. Hereford is also home to the Chained Library, the very last of its kind, which is definitely worth a visit!

Alternatively, head out of the city towards Breinton springs, this leads you through an apple orchard, where you can visit The Museum of Cider. Or why not stop at Monkland Cheese Dairy for a cheese tasting tour, pick up some delicious cheese, chutneys and local jams to later be enjoyed with a glass of your favourite! The National Trust house of Berrington Hall, The Weir Garden and Brobury House should also be added to your itinerary. Or pack up a picnic and make your way to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or the Brecon Beacons - both making for unforgettable day trips. The list is endless… you’ll want to return to River Safari time and time again!

Luxury (Safari-Style) Rafting Trips

Luxury (Safari-Style ) Rafting Trips

One of the common requests for our custom rafting adventures is to have additional luxury. Safari style trips allow for the enjoyment of the outdoors without the need to “rough it.” With a range of possibilities available, trip customization allows us to meet most groups’ desires. Some people want sit down 3 course meals, and a hot shower. Others just want to be able to roll into a camp that is all set up with some appetizers and chilled beverages.

If glamping (luxury camping) doesn’t sound nice enough, spend a night or two in river-side lodges as you float downstream or spend every night in a lodge. Having said that, some of the Safari Camps are nicer then the lodges.

river safari glamping

Glamping Safari Style

Pampered camping means arriving each night at camp to a clean roomy walk-in tent with off-the-ground cots. High quality sleeping bags or flannel bedding are provided depending upon what will keep your most comfortable on that particular river. In the morning the crew will also break-down your sleeping accommodations, load them on rafts and head down to set-up for the next night. If you prefer there are also trips where you come back to the same base camp each night.

Wall tent with cots

Riverside Dining

The menus are adjusted to meet the needs of the trip. Options include bringing along a professional chef, all organic foods, wine tasting, linen covered tables for sit down dining, and multi-course meals. Family style fine dining is a popular option to soak in company, incredible scenery, and culinary delights.

Additional Amenities

Depending upon the trip, some or all of the additional amenities below will be available. Customized trips are the best way to get your preferred experience.

 • hot showers at camp
 • comfortable chairs
 • hot tubs or hot springs
 • fireside live music

Best Rivers for Luxury Rafting

Below are our preferred whitewater rivers for luxury rafting trips.

Cataract Canyon , Utah

Our most popular luxury trip. Cataract Canyon provides similar scenery to the Grand Canyon with big high volume rapids most springs and early summers. Since Grand Canyon trips off only minor luxury many people pivot to raft Cataract Canyon which provides the best luxury rafting trips on the Colorado River.

Salmon River , Idaho

Option to stay in lodges some nights. Rafts can run ahead to set up camp. Potential to have people on different length trips with historic dirt airstrips along the river. The upstream Middle Fork of the Salmon River has glamping options.

Rogue River , Oregon

Potential to do a lodge-to-lodge trip with no camping. People can fly in or out on wilderness airstrips as well. Rafts can also go ahead to have camp set up for when you arrive.

rafters eating sit down 3 course dinner

Middle Fork Salmon River , Idaho

Multiple Glamping options. Middle Fork Salmon Trips have some tasty menus and a sweep raft is common which actually goes ahead to have camp set up when you arrive.

Futaleufu River, Chile

One the best high volume rivers in the world. Trip options include travel from lodge to lodge or staying at a base camp with a bar and hot tub. The challenge for this trip is the travel to the river in northern Patagonia.

Grand Canyon , Arizona – Minor Luxuries

Trickier river for luxury trips. While there are some small changes to be made to increase the comfort on Grand Canyon rafting trips, options are limited due to the length of the trip and National Park Service regulations. The best luxury rafting trips in Grand Canyon are actually upstream in Cataract Canyon where more major luxuries can be provided.

Luxury to Meet your Needs

Luxury rafting trips are unique experiences developed for the group at hand. We know the options and what works best having run custom luxury trips for 25+ years. Kern River Rafting Safari - Whitewater

Kern River Rafting Safari

Trip length, who it's for.

Class IV for experienced and beginner paddlers. Minimum age 12 (16 - high water)

GATEWAY CITY

Meeting location.

Combine big summer whitewater rafting, a beautiful high desert canyon cut through the Sierra foothills, and an ultra-comfortable ‘safari style’ backcountry camp (think glamping). California is renowned for its world-class whitewater rivers. And with its granite gorges, smooth boulders, steep drops, and swirling pools, the Kern is quintessential California whitewater. This is a uniquely action-packed and comfortable luxury camping adventure on one the finest Class IV rivers in the West – there is no other trip like it in the United States.

A note from Pete – The Kern & our Safari Camp:

Rafting Glamping Tent

We are so excited to show people the Kern River. It is quintessential Califorina Whitewater and one of the rivers I dreamed about running when I first started guiding. It is also giving us a chance to bring our award winning Upper Klamath Safari Camp trip and concept to another river.

Our Upper Klamath River Safari took almost 5 years to develop and eventually introduced 1000’s of people to wild rivers. Along the way it won awards from Sunset and other publications. The trip was active, very comfortable, and most importantly – really fun. With Klamath Dam removal (a great thing for the river) 2023 was our last season doing the Upper Klamath River Safari. We are now beyond excited to be able to bring the same style trip to the Kern River and Southern California.

I love extremely remote and wild places. But I also love active days outside followed by good food and drink, unique & comfortable accommodations, all shared with friends new and old. It is why we designed the Upper Klamath River Safari and why we are so excited for this trip.

I hope we will have a chance to show it to you.

Beginning in its headwaters on Mt Whitney, California’s highest peak, the Kern tumbles south through wilderness and then the Kernville area before turning southwest and cutting a deep canyon through the Greenhorn Mountains. Known as the ‘Lower Kern,’ this canyon creates a stretch that is accessible but secluded, with high desert beauty and amazing summer whitewater.

The whitewater is the style that has made California famous in the boating community – big clean drops over massive boulders bounded by stunning granite walls. The two-day trip begins with a fun Class-III warm-up, making this stretch a recommended rafting trip for first-timers or experts in good health. There is plenty of opportunity to learn the finer points of river running before the whitewater intensifies. From lunch on day one through the end of day two the river is packed with exciting but approachable Class IV whitewater – there are few summer stretches of river like it.

In the afternoon we will float into our Kern River Safari Camp . The camp is a safari style riverside base camp located deep in the canyon. There is a shaded eating and hang-out area, hammocks, and beach games. You’ll enjoy your own shaded safari style walk-in tent with a private deck that is set among massive granite boulders with views of the river and the high desert canyon. The late afternoon can be spent hiking, playing games in the sun, having a drink by the river, or just lounging in a hammock. In the evening we will serve appetizers, a big dinner, and dessert, followed by a comfortable night under the star-studded high desert sky.

The Kern Rafting Safari is done with Momentum’s signature style, attention to detail, and handcrafted quality. With creative menus, personal service and hospitality, one of the most experienced (and friendly) guide staffs in the world, and with all the little touches we are known for. Our comfortable camp makes this trip an incredible introduction to camping (and ideal for those who find regular camping to be not their cup of tea:)). And the itinerary and the Class III warm up section make it a perfect rafting trip for first-timers in good health, as they have plenty of time to master the finer points of river running.

The location of the Kern also adds to its accessibility. It is a short 3 hour drive from the Los Angeles area, 4 hours from Palm Springs, and there are direct flights from cities like San Francisco, Phoenix, and Denver. Trips can be combined with time exploring Historic Kernville and Sequoia National Park, as well as enjoying world class fly fishing, hiking, and mountain biking.

Join us for a unique combination of some of the country’s best summer whitewater and a unique safari style riverside retreat – all a short drive from LA. It’s a quick, active, and comfortable wild river escape – away from traffic, lines, and hectic daily schedules.

Please Note: This trip is perfect for experienced and first time paddlers (and for those who find regular camping to be not their cup of tea). However all guests need to be in reasonable physical condition for the whitewater rafting section. If you have any questions or concerns please give us a call or an email.

River Safari

This wildlife park re-creates the habitats of numerous world-famous rivers, including the Yangtze, Mississippi and Congo. While most are underwhelming, the Mekong River and Amazon Flooded Forest exhibits are impressive, their epic aquariums rippling with giant catfish and stingrays, electric eels, red-bellied piranhas, manatees and sea cows. Another highlight is the Giant Panda Forest enclosure, home to rare red pandas and the park's famous black-and-whiters, Kai Kai and Jia Jia.

Young kids (at least 1.06cm tall) will enjoy the 10-minute Amazon River Quest Boat Ride (adult/child S$5/3), a tranquil, theme park–style tour past roaming monkeys, wild cats and exotic bird life. The ride begins with a big splash, so if you're sitting in the front row, keep feet and bags off the floor. Boat-ride time slots fill quickly, so go early. Discounted multi-park tickets are available, which includes the Singapore Zoo , Night Safari and Jurong Bird Park .

To get here catch bus 138 from the Ang Mo Kio MRT station.

13 of the Best Summer Glamping Resorts in North America

May 16, 2024 | Samantha Barry

Camping has boomed in popularity in recent years. And with the increase in popularity of camping has been the increase in popularity of glamping. Glamping provides much of the serenity and beauty of the great outdoors but with some of the luxuries and amenities of a resort. Trade your small tent and sleeping bag for a full bed in a cozy yurt, treehouse, dome, or minimalist cabin. This elevated camping trip experience in many ways is the best of both worlds, providing the serenity, privacy, and connection of nature while offering access to amenities you don’t often have when car camping. In some cases it’s an upgrade from your typical camping trip with more amenities and nicer accommodations, while other times it’s straight-up luxury camping.

North America Glamping Destinations

Getaway, new england (and many other destinations).

Look no further than Getaway, which has outposts across the U.S., if you want the experience of camping without having to set up a tent. In New England, Blake Brook is just 90 minutes from Boston, and just an hour from ski resorts like Gunstock and Mount Sunapee . Other New England outposts include an Eastern Catskills location that’s just 30 minutes from Windham Mountain Club . Getaway’s tiny cabins are fully equipped with a shower, AC and heat, kitchenettes, a comfy queen bed, and an outdoor patio area with a fire pit, grill grate, picnic table, and chairs. Unlike campgrounds, where campsites are typically on top of one another, Getaway’s cabins are spaced out, often surrounded by trees, and providing space and privacy.

Lumen Nature Retreat, New Hampshire

Lumen Nature Retreat , in Woodstock, New Hampshire, is home to 35 Nordic cabins and A-Frame tents. In the summer spend your day hiking in Franconia State Park and taking in the beauty of the White Mountains. In the winter, ski at nearby Loon Mountain (located 8 miles away). After a long day of adventures, take advantage of Lumen’s private saunas and settle in for a truly relaxing evening. Cabins come with cozy bedrooms, seating areas, and kitchenettes, while each site also comes with a private “smokeless” stainless steel fire pit. Lumen Nature Retreat is located about two hours north of Boston, and just over an hour from Manchester.

Hub North, New Hampshire

Hub North, a glamping vacation property complete with yurts, tents, and a full lodge, is located just south of the Maine border in Gorham, New Hampshire. The lodge, featuring a spacious kitchen, dining area, and living space, can sleep up to 10 people, making this the perfect spot year-round if you’ll be traveling with a big group. Travelers in the summer have the choice of A-frame tents or fully-insulated yurts with queen beds. The campground also has an outdoor kitchen, dining space, and fire pits.

Hub North is 13 miles from Wildcat Mountain , while Black Mountain , Attitash , Bretton Woods , Sunday River , Cranmore , and Cannon are all within 30 miles. In the summer Hub North is also a prime spot to stay for access to great mountain biking and hiking, thanks to its location in the Northern Presidential Range of the White Mountains.

Terramor Outdoor Resort, Bar Harbor, Maine

In 2020, KOA opened its first glamping experience in Bar Harbor — Terramor Outdoor Resort . Terramor Outdoor Resort is conveniently near one of the East Coast’s best national parks, Acadia National Park. Terramor’s glamping tents (sleep 2-5) are spaced out to provide privacy, while offering a selection of great amenities like an electric kettle, local pour-over coffee, portable heater, a fire pit and complimentary firewood, lantern, and other comforts of home. Terramor offers a complimentary grab-and-go breakfast each morning, and also has an on-property restaurant and bar, Kitchen [207], which is open for dinner. There is also a lawn for games, a refreshing pool, morning yoga in the pavilion, and lobster-to-table cookouts.

While the most popular time for the area is summer, there is still fun to be had in the winter, with ski areas such as Camden Ski Bowl nearby.

Autocamp Catskills, New York

Autocamp has outposts across the U.S., combining the comforts of a resort with the spirit of a nature retreat. Its Catskills location offers a variety of lodging options, including custom-designed Airstreams, luxury tents, and cabins. The airstreams are ideal for couples, featuring a private bedroom with a panoramic window for lying under the stars, a comfortable sitting area, and kitchenette that’s perfect for cooking dinner together. Airstreams come with walk-in rain showers and enough space to give you all the comforts of home amidst the beauty of nature. Spring for one of the cabins if you want more space and added amenities. All airstreams and cabins have flat-screen TVs, heat, and air conditioning.

The Catskills location has outdoor spaces with fire pits, WiFi throughout the property, and a fully-equipped clubhouse with food, drinks, and games. There are also complimentary bikes on the property along with music performances, yoga classes, scenic hikes, and art classes. If you’re checking out the region’s ski resorts, Plattekill and Hunter Mountain are within an hour of Autocamp Catskills.

The Resort at Paws Up, Montana

Everything is bigger in Montana, even the glamping properties. The Resort at Paws Up spans 37,000 acres of wilderness, with 10 miles of the Blackfoot River running through it. Its 28 luxury homes range from smaller 2-bedroom vacation homes up to larger estates and ranch styles. Paws Up has six camps with safari-style luxury glamping tents that cater to a variety of travelers. Moonlight Camp is the most secluded, and features one and two-bedroom luxury tents. North Bank Camp (pictured below), dubbed Glamping 2.0, takes it up a notch with its two and three-bedroom tents. All of Paws Up tents come with their own camping butler.

For an even more unique and upgraded experience, check out The Green O properties at Paws Up Ranch. Described on their website as the “perfect blend of adventure and serenity,” these ‘hauses’ are tucked away in the forest for the ultimate sense of privacy. The Tree Haus, Green Haus, Light Haus, and Round Haus all have unique amenities. The Tree Haus is an elevated space with floor-to-ceiling windows to appreciate the foliage. The Light Haus and Green Haus are inspired by different elements of nature with large windows and skylights that let you appreciate the beauty in the comfort of a modern home. And The Round Haus features curved, floor-to-ceiling windows that offer 180-degree panoramic views.

Your glamping retreat has great views, but for a different perspective, get out on the water. Float down the river and you’ll be treated to incredible scenery you otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to see. While whitewater rafting is far from a life raft, it is indeed life-affirming. Understanding the Margaret River region

The Margaret River wine region is famous worldwide for world-class waves, fine dining and the city of Busselton in the North, and Margaret River town in the centre.

In addition, several sizeable towns, villages and localities are sprinkled around the Margaret River region, and people who aren’t familiar with the area make the mistake of saying, “They are in Margaret River.”

Well, I’m here to say they are NOT really in Margaret River. If you book accommodation in the North (say in Dunsborough, Yallingup or Busselton) and you want to spend time near the big waves of Prevelly or at the wineries around Margaret River town, you will spend a LOT of time in the car each day. (eg Busselton to Prevelly Beach is about 50 minutes drive one way, in good traffic!)

Augusta is a charming seaside village right to the south of the Margaret River Wine region. While its ocean views are spectacular, it’s not as accessible to the wineries and activities around Margaret River Town. (Augusta is about 1 hours and 15 minutes’ drive south of Busselton!!!)

It makes sense to get an understanding of what you want to see and do – when booking where you want to stay, hence this explanation of where the towns are, before we delve into this summary of glamping options in the broader Margaret River area!

Why Go Glamping in the Margaret River Region

The Margaret River Region, renowned for its wine, surf, and natural beauty, offers an immersive experience that’s only made better with glamping.

Here are five amazing reasons to go glamping in this beautiful part of Western Australia:

 • Nature Meets Luxury: Glamping allows you to be close to the nature of Margaret River without compromising on comfort. Enjoy luxuries like hot showers and plush bedding, then step straight into nature.
 • An Eco-Friendly Experience: Many glamping sites prioritise sustainability. Staying in an eco-conscious tent means reducing your carbon footprint while still enjoying the region’s wonders.
 • More Privacy: Glamping often offers secluded spots rather than being confined to a hotel room in a bustling centre, ensuring peace and privacy. This makes it an ideal choice for romantic getaways, family adventures or reflective solo trips away from the crowds.
 • The Accommodation is the experience: sometimes we stay in accommodation in a utilitarian way; the hotel is a place to sleep and shower… but I love that glamping is the experience itself, so we can take it easy and hang about for hours, connecting as family/ or as a couple, as the case may be.
 • Un- plugging; While the situation varies, some of these glamping experiences are unplugged which means its time to get the books out, enjoy roasting marshmellows around the campfire, or a cosy game of cards. That’s what holidays are all about!

Permanent Fixtures VS Moveable Glamping Tents – Which One to Choose?

When you’re booking a glamping trip, there are two main options to choose from – Permanent fixtures and moveable tents.

Moveable tents are booked through a glamping company and pitched wherever you please, whether on a campsite, near a beach or in your friend’s backyard.

Moveable tents add an element of customization and offer a fresh backdrop for your glamping adventure. You can normally add on extras such as a hamper, bike hire or added luxury when booking.

On the other hand, permanent fixtures are tents located at a glamping site booked similarly to how you would book a hotel.

Permanent fixtures, entrenched at specific sites, offer a seamlessly integrated experience. These accommodations often include on-site cafes, guest laundry, and other amenities.

We’ve covered both options in the article so you can know all the available options.

 • I have been on two glamping safari trips in Africa on two very different budgets.
 • My all-inclusive stay was great but my cheaper glamping experience was fine, too.
 • Private game reserves are actually the most important thing to splurge on, not accommodations.

I've been on two African safari trips . Both involved glamping but on completely different budgets.

My first more affordable trip, a lodge in South Africa with separate safari excursions, cost me about $1,100. My second, an all-inclusive lodge in Tanzania, cost me about $4,000 after a 50% off deal.

Here's how the two compare and what I think you should look for before you plan an African safari .

My affordable safari experience was at Jackalberry Ridge, where some tents cost $80 a night.

The first time I went on a safari, I went to Kruger National Park in South Africa. I didn't book a tour package, instead opting to stay at affordable lodging and book safari day trips to the park.

I stayed five nights near Kruger and one night in Johannesburg before my flight home. I spent around $1,100 for lodging, safari tours, a rental car, and food (not including flights).

After landing in Johannesburg, I rented a car ($130 for five days) to drive to my lodging in Marloth Park, a town bordering the edge of Kruger National Park.

I was staying at Jackalberry Ridge , a self-catering accommodation with no on-site restaurant, no room service, and limited housekeeping.

The one-bedroom tents at Jackalberry Ridge go for as low as $80 a night, and two-bedroom tents go for $135.

When I checked in late, there was no one at the reception desk — just an envelope with my name on it containing my keys and a map.

For my next safari trip, I leveled up.

I saw a Travelzoo deal for an all-inclusive safari at Taasa Lodge , a five-star luxury safari in Tanzania.

The deal was $6,000 for two people for a whole week — the lodge is usually $12,950 for two for seven nights. It was still a splurge, but I'd be saving more than 50% on a bucket-list experience.

The package came with seven nights of lodging, two safari activities a day, three daily meals, and drinks.

Still, we spent more than the original advertised price. There are obligatory "daily government park fees" and "daily concession fees" that added about $893 per person to our bill.

We also had to take a regional flight to get to Taasa, which was more expensive than my rental car in South Africa.

To redeem the Travelzoo deal, we had to complete our booking through a specific travel agency.

We ended up opting for an all-inclusive add-on package which includes the $893 fees above, domestic airfares from Arusha to Taasa (which would already cost around $600), and our agency arranging our Tanzanian tourist visa and airport transfers. The add-on also included extra activities at the resort (more on that later).

Overall, we paid $1,715 per person on top of the $3,000 each for the lodge stay.

I hadn't anticipated paying so many extras, but it was nice to have someone take care of the logistics of getting to the resort.

When I arrived at the lodge, the staff greeted me with a glass of juice and a wet towel to refresh myself.

My tent was quite spacious. I especially liked that it had a desk and plenty of outlets I could use to charge my electronics. Our bathroom was behind our bed, and I was glad it was inside the tent this time.

We also got a butler who kept track of our schedules and made sure we had what we needed.

My tent was luxurious and equipped with a comfortable king bed and a large living room.

At the private game reserve, we got pretty close to wildlife.

Taasa is located inside a private game reserve, which means staff can pretty much drive anywhere within it. This was a huge leg up from my day trips in Kruger National Park on my last safari.

Inside national parks like Kruger or Serengeti, you're only allowed to drive on designated roads for safety reasons (both for the tourists and the animals).

But in a private reserve, guides can drive offroad. Plus, the guides communicate with each other when they find something special.

We saw a bunch of animals in the private reserve and Serengeti.

We also left the reserve to spend a couple of days going into Serengeti National Park, as there were things you could only find there instead of within the private reserve.

Every dinner at the resort consisted of three courses: soup, an entrée, and a dessert.

The main course was usually some type of Western food, and there was always a vegetarian option.

One morning, we had a special breakfast on the plains.

On one day of the trip, we had a special bush breakfast. It was one of the extra activities we got with that special add-on package.

Instead of our usual safari breakfast, we had freshly prepared omelets in the wild.

We also got another special treat in the bush that morning — a toilet!

When you're offroading looking for wild animals, you can end up pretty far from a proper toilet.

On most safari days, the car stops (when guides think it's safe), and people go behind the car to do their business.

This was the only time we had this portable toilet while out on a safari. On my budget safari day trips at Kruger, we'd have to wait until we reached a rest-stop facility.

Again, we spent a lot of time watching lions.

After breakfast, we were back in safari mode.

We found a family of lions, and as we were in the private reserve, we were able to stay and watch the cubs play for quite a while.

At Kruger, when lions are spotted, traffic starts backing up on the road as all the safari cruisers stop to look, so you can't stay too long.

Here, we knew no one else would be coming.

Our trip ended with a great happy hour and outdoor dinner.

My big takeaway is that it's really worth paying to be inside a private reserve.

In my opinion, the difference between these two safari trips that's the most worth paying for is being in a private reserve.

After all, the main reason I fly to Africa is for the safari, not the glamping.

I much preferred my lodging at Taasa, mostly because of the bathroom. But if I hadn't had the 50% off deal, I'm not sure the full price would've been worth it.

Overnight Safari Option 1 (USD 220.00 Per Person excl Nat Park Fees)

The journey starts at 15:00hrs on Day 1 where you will be taken on your first game drive with sunset views & spectacular scenery to your camping site where you will be welcomed with refreshing cocktails & snacks. Simply enjoy the night sounds & camp fire dinners served under the stars in a bush campsite. Day 2 starts off with an early morning walk to beat the harsh African sun but also a time when predators like lion are at their most active. Coffee & a snack will be offered enroute. A break for brunch will be taken at one of the many shaded picnic sites in the park and a chance for a snooze to the sounds of the savanna insects and birds. Weather & temperature dependent, the afternoon will either consist of another guided walk or a game drive through the park. This is an all-inclusive package.

Overnight Safaris Option 2 (USD 300.00 Per Person excl Nat Park Fees)

Our second overnight experience is a ‘2 days 1 night safaris’ which starts at 05:45hrs from your hotel from where you will be transferred to the start of your designated walking safari through the Zambezi Park. On arrival at the private campsite you will enjoy a light hearty lunch & an afternoon siesta. The afternoon will consist of another guided walking safari through areas with small streams & thickets and a good chance of prime game viewing. You will arrive back at camp for a cold beer and a chance of seeing a magnificent Zambezi sunset. A safari dinner will be served around the campfire whist your guide indulges you with tales of the bush and some close wildlife encounters. Settle in for the night in one of our comfortable tents and enjoy the thrill of sleeping in the wild. Day 2 kicks off at dawn with another guided walk and a good chance of seeing those nocturnal animals that have not yet scurried back into their burrows.

Tea, coffee & biscuits will satisfy you until your break for brunch and an afternoon siesta. The afternoon walks can be the most rewarding as most animals come out in the cool of the day to graze and drink along the spring lines and river. After a rendezvous with your driver guests will be dropped back at their hotels completely satisfied with an unforgettable night’s sleep. This is also an all-inclusive package.
