Jack Draper makes the final of the Sofia Open

Britain's Jack Draper became the youngest Brit in 14 years to reach an ATP Tour final after defeating Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3 6-4 at the Sofia Open.

At 21 years old, Draper is the youngest British player to compete in a final on the men's circuit since Andy Murray in 2009.

Less than a week on from winning an ATP Challenger Tour event in Italy, he will face Adrian Mannarino in the final on Saturday, after the Frenchman beat Pavel Kotov 6-2 7-6(2) in the other semi-final.

"Obviously I am very proud. Andy is an amazing player. I hope one day I can do what he's done in the sport but it's a long way to go and I'll keep trying," said Draper.

"I didn't serve as well today but the opponent was putting a lot of pressure on my serve. I think I've got to just try and keep the rhythm. It was tough out here with some tense moments. It was a semi-final to get into my first final so I was nervous, but I came through it well."

Great Britain's Daniel Evans, Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie, Leon Smith, Neal Skupski and Jack Draper celebrate qualifying for the final eight

Draper only joined the ATP Tour in 2021 and received a wild card for Wimbledon, where he took the first set off defending champion Novak Djokovic before going on to lose in four sets.

He won his first Challenger event in 2022 and broke into the top 100 on the ATP rankings in June of that year, before earning a direct entry into Wimbledon and won his first Grand Slam match.

Later that summer, Draper beat Stefanos Tsitsipas and reached the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open, the first time he made the last eight of an ATP 1000 tournament.

He made the fourth round of the US Open after beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets and qualified for the NextGen ATP finals - an end-of-season event for the top eight highest-ranked players aged 21 or under.

Britain's Jack Draper hit a spectacular backhand to help setup his US Open win over Radu Albot.

Draper made a strong start to 2023 as he made the Adelaide International 2 semi-finals after getting the better of Karen Khachanov but lost to Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open.

Since then, it's been a season turmoiled by injury but he came back for the US Open and made it to the second week of the Grand Slam after victories over Radu Albot, 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz and Michael Mmoh.

The Briton kicked on from his run as Flushing Meadows with another Challenger final appearance at the Open d'Orleans to get back inside the world's top 100. He won his fifth Challenger title at the Trofeo Faip-Perrel in early November.

Jack Draper US Open

The action continues at ATP Rome Day 2 as players look to fine-tune their clay-court game ahead of the 2024 French Open. We have some intriguing matches on the Thursday slate, including Jack Draper vs. Borna Coric. As always, we at LWOT have the preview and prediction for all matches around the grounds of Rome. But who will advance?

ATP Rome Day 2 Predictions

Dominik koepfer vs andrea vavassori.

Head-to-Head : first meeting

Dominik Koepfer comes to ATP Rome on a five-match losing streak. He has yet to win a clay-court match this year. Italian wildcard Andrea Vavassori loves clay and has had most of his ATP success on the surface. He comes into Rome on a three-match losing streak but should be able to engage the home crowd.

Prediction: Vavassori in 3

Roberto Carballes Baena vs Christopher O’Connell

Roberto Carballes Baena has played some of the best tennis of his career over the last 12 months. He is 7-3 in his last ten clay-court matches, including a run to the Marrakech final. Christopher O’Connell has never been a great clay-court player and has yet to win a ATP main draw match on the surface this year. Carballes Baena should use his movement and consistency to cruise to victory.

Prediction: Carballes Baena in 2

J.J. Wolf vs Stefano Napolitano

25-year-old American J.J. Wolf has had a tough 2024 season. He is 1-5 in tour-level matches and 3-11 overall. He looks to get back on track against wildcard Stefano Napolitano. The 29-year-old Italian has dominated the Challenger Tour this year, holding a 15-5 record. That said, he has just one tour-level win in his career. He is 8-4 on the clay and should be able to push around the American.

Prediction: Napolitano in 2

Jack Draper vs Borna Coric

Jack Draper is on the brink of top 20 breakout, but can it happen on the clay? The 22-year-old Brit is 3-3 on the surface this year but has played some tight matches against top 10 players. Borna Coric has always been a solid clay-courter but comes to ATP Rome out of form. He is 3-7 since February. I think Draper’s ability to move Coric around the court will wear down the Croatian.

Prediction: Draper in 3

Madrid Open 2024 tennis: Australia’s Jordan Thompson wins maiden ATP Masters 1000 title

Thompson, now a six-time ATP Tour doubles champion, had teamed with Sebastian Korda for the first time. It was the duo’s maiden ATP Masters 1000 doubles title.

Australian tennis player Jordan Thompson , partnering USA’s Sebastian Korda, won the Madrid Open 2024 men’s doubles title at the Manolo Santana Stadium on Saturday.

In the final between two unseeded pairs at the clay court tournament, Thompson and Korda defeated Uruguay’s Ariel Behar and Czechia’s Adam Pavlasek 6-3, 7(9)-6(7) in 77 minutes to win their maiden ATP Masters 1000 tennis title in doubles.

Thompson is now a six-time ATP Tour doubles champion. The 30-year-old teamed up with Sebastian Korda for the first time with the duo clinching their maiden ATP Masters 1000 doubles title.

Thompson and Korda entered the main Madrid Open main draw by using a spot reserved for singles players as part of a trial for a new doubles format.

Korda and Thompson got a crucial break in the fourth game and went on to win the first set. The Australian-American duo was unable to find a break in the second set but saved a crucial set point when trailing 7-6 in the tie-break.

In all, Korda and Thompson saved six break points against Behar and Pavlasek in the title decider.

Thompson and Korda defeated top-seeded Indo-Aussie pair Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden in the first round before getting the better of John Peers and Andres Molteni in the second.

In the quarter-finals, Thompson and Korda accounted for Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli and then staged a gritty comeback to beat Jamie Murray and Michael Venus, both former Grand Slam champions, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 in the semi-finals.

This was Thompson’s fifth title on the ATP Tour this year. He won the ATP 250 doubles titles in Dallas, Los Cabos and Houston in addition to clinching the singles crown in Los Cabos.

In the men’s singles, Australia’s Alex de Minaur, seeded 10th, and Max Purcell failed to progress past the round of 64.

In the WTA events, Daria Saville was ousted in the round of 64 while Ellen Perez and her American partner Nicole Melichar-Martinez were knocked out in the first round of doubles.
