Residents from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries who hold tourist visa to Saudi Arabia can now get permits to perform Umrah as well as visit the Rawdah Sharif at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

The Saudi Ministry of Tourism on Thursday announced that GCC residents can obtain a tourist visa online.

After obtaining a e-visa, GCC residents can pre-book their Umrah and Rawdah Sharif permits via the Eatmarna application.

Difference 1: Nationality

• Tourist Visa: The fee to apply for Saudi Tourist Visa is SR 440.

Saudi tourist visa holders now permitted to perform Umrah

The regulation applies to citizens of 49 countries

According to the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, travellers who have obtained tourist visas and commercial visas will now be allowed to perform the Umrah pilgrimage during their stay in Saudi Arabia.  

Previously, Saudi Arabia issued specific Hajj and Umrah visas for pilgrims, allowing them to only travel between the cities of Mecca (Makkah) and Medina (Madinah) to perform the rituals.

Tourist visas can be obtained online through the Visit Saudi Arabia portal or on arrival at Saudi Arabian airports.

Tourist visas are valid for a period of 12 months, upon arrival at one of the Saudi airports without the need for prior application, and the visa holders will be allowed to visit other cities and regions throughout the kingdom.

The decision was made in order to streamline the Umrah visa application process and allow as many people as possible to perform the pilgrimage.

The new regulation applies to citizens of the 49 countries eligible for electronic tourist visa applications, as well as  holders of US, UK and Schengen visas.

The ministry also announced that family visit visa holders from different nationalities can perform Umrah by booking an appointment through the Eatmarna app or the National Unified Visa Platform.

To perform Umrah, visitors must obtain comprehensive health insurance, which includes coverage of treatment costs of Covid-19, accidents resulting in death or disability and expenses incurred due to flight delays or cancellations.

Umrah season began on 30 July 2022.

Saudi Arabia has allowed all types of visa holders to perform the Umrah pilgrimage.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has enabled all types of visa holders and those coming from all across the world for tourism and visit purposes to perform Umrah during their stay in the kingdom. Additionally, it has permitted incoming travellers who hold visas from the US, the UK and Schengen countries, Saudi Press Agency  reported.

The decision coincides with the start of the Umrah season for the current year, after the ending of the recent Hajj pilgrimage.

Meanwhile, the ‘Maqam’ platform, in cooperation with tourism companies and agencies, has enabled incoming pilgrims to obtain an Umrah visa.

Those who are issued visas on arrival at a Saudi airport from eligible countries and those who hold nationalities of the US, UK or Schengen countries, can perform Umrah provided that they carry an entry stamp from the issuing country.

Travellers who have obtained a family visit visa or are on a personal visit can also perform Umrah by booking an appointment through the Eatamarna app.

However, visitors who wish to perform Umrah are required to obtain comprehensive health insurance, which includes Covid-19 treatment coverage, as well as that of personal accidents resulting in death or disability, flight delays or cancellations, among others.

Earlier this year, the kingdom launched an electronic visa processing app for pilgrims planning to perform the Umrah pilgrimage.

Did you know that you can go to Umrah with a tourist visa ? It is official in many areas around the world, including the USA, Canada, France, and more.

In 2019, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the opening of tourist visas to all visitors from all over the world.

Which can be used to perform Umrah, but not during the Hajj season.

Moreover, a tourist visa does not exclude any tourist for reasons of religion or belief, and the tourist can make multiple visits within a year, provided that the visit does not exceed 90 days.

Among the characteristics of the Saudi tourist visa:

• No sponsor is needed like work visas.
• Religion or belief has nothing to do with obtaining the visa.
• Opportunity for multiple visits to Saudi Arabia within a year.

How to Get a Saudi Tourist Visa?

You can obtain a Saudi tourist visa in one of the following ways:

Firstly: E-Visa Online

To get a Saudi tourist E-Visa online do the following:

• Visit the “ Visit Saudi ” website, and get sure that you can get an E-Visa.
• Enter your nationality in the box, then fill out the application, and pay the visa fee.
• Wait for the approval of your tourist visa, it takes 5-30 minutes.
• Note that No travel tickets, hotel reservations, or a hard copy of the visa are required.
• Only the residential address is requested.

The Saudi tourist visa conditions include:

• You must be at least 18 years old to enter alone. 
• Passengers under the age of 18 may only enter if they are accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or adult sibling (over 18).
• Your passport must be valid for at least six months after the date of entry into Saudi Arabia,
• with the exception of United States citizens; United States citizens may enter as long as their passport is valid, regardless of the time remaining before expiration.

Secondly: Visa on Arrival

You can obtain a Saudi tourist visa upon arrival in Saudi Arabia through the following airports and ports:

• King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh (RUH).
• King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah (JED).
• King Fahd International Airport in Dammam (DMM).
• Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Medinah (MED).
• Prince Abdul Majeed bin Abdulaziz Airport in Al-Ula (ULH).
• King Fahd Bridge Exit between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
• Al Batha land port between Saudi Arabia and the Emirates.

Conditions for obtaining a tourist visa upon arrival:

Find out which countries can get a visa on arrival from here , 

and if you are not a citizen of any, you must meet the following conditions:

• To be a holder of an American, British, or Schengen visa.
• The visa must be valid not expired or canceled.
• The visa must be a tourist or business visa; because other types of visas are not accepted.
• You must have used the visa previously at least once during your travel to the country from which the visa was issued, 

and the visa or one of the pages of the passport must be stamped by the country issuing the visa.

• Travel must be with Saudi Airlines, Flynas, Flyadeal, Saudi Gulf Airlines, or any Saudi airline only.

In addition to those two ways,

Umrah With a Tourist Visa Cost

The total cost is about 131.77 $ (494.15 SAR), which includes:

• The visa issuance fee is 80$ (300SAR)
• Health Insurance for 32.5$ (122  SAR).
• The tax is 15%, which is 16.8$ (63 SAR).
• The payment fee is 2.44 $ ( 9.15 SAR) for cards (Visa, MasterCard, UnionPay, Apple Pay) 
• or 3.57$ (13.41 SAR)  for American Express cards.

Saudi Arabia has announced a significant change to its Umrah visa rules ahead of the upcoming pilgrimage season. According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the Umrah visa will now remain valid for a period of three months (90 days) from the date of issuance. This adjustment marks a departure from the previous system where the validity period began upon entry into the country.

Under the previous regulations, Umrah pilgrims had a three-month time to complete their pilgrimage, starting from the moment they arrived in Saudi Arabia. However, the new rule begins 90 day validity of the visa from the day it is issued.

It is important to note that the Umrah visa is distinct from the regular tourist visa issued by Saudi Arabia. While the tourist visa permits multiple entries and is valid for 90 days, the Umrah visa is a single-entry visa specifically for pilgrimage purposes, also to be used for within 90 days of issue. Changes to visa rules are made in co-ordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and are designed to simplify Hajj preparations. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah clarified that the final date for Umrah visas will be Dhul Qadah 15 (corresponding to May 15).

What are the new Umrah Visa Rules

• Umra visa is valid for 3 months from Date of Issue. You can enter from any point in Saudi and by any mode of transport. You can get it issued online or via an agent who can get it issued for you online. Umrah visa fee is 300 Saudi Riyals +100 Saudi riyal insurance fee.
• The Last Date to Leave Saudi after Umrah is 15th of Dhū al-Qaʿdah, which is 25 days before Hajj.
• If one buys a Saudi Airlines or FlyNas Air Tickets to travel to Saudi, the Airlines provide a 96hrs Free Visa.
• Being Muslim, one can perform Umrah on any kind of Visa, be it a Business Visa, Visit Visa or Tourist Visa.
• Cost of each Visa is SR 300.
• A Muslim Passport Holder of any country having Schengen Visa or US Visa stamped on their Passport, and having used it once...can get a One Tourist Visa on Arrival on payment of 400 Saudi Riyal.
• With the earlier Umrah Visa, the maximum stay period was restricted to 38 days and had to be used within 90 days from date of issuance. Now the period has been extended to 90 days from Visa Issuance, upto the maximum of 90 days from Issue date, but needs exit before 15th day of Dhū al-Qaʿdah, which is 25 days before Hajj.
• First the Visas used to be issued by the Embassy through Agents. Now can be applied and issued Online Directly.
• Earlier, the last date of Issue of Umrah Visa was 15th of Ramzaan, however, now it can be issued till the end of the Islamic month of Shawwal.
• Now  Mehram  is not compulsory for women travelling without their husbands.

Despite the extension of the visa validity, visitors are reminded that the Umrah visa is strictly for pilgrimage purposes and does not authorize any form of employment or unrelated activities while in the country. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah emphasizes the importance of adhering to the new visa regulations and leaving the country before the visa expiration date.

Furthermore, it is crucial to understand that the Umrah visa does not grant permission to perform Hajj rituals. Those intending to participate in the Hajj pilgrimage must obtain a separate Saudi Hajj visa. The deadline for the issuance of Hajj 2024 visas is set for April 29, 2024, underscoring the importance of timely application for prospective pilgrims.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has clarified that foreigners who are coming to the Kingdom on tourist visa can perform Umrah after obtaining Umrah permit by completing the procedures on the Eatmarna and Tawakkalna applications.

Free Accommodation

Umrah visa holders can travel across Saudi Arabia

The visa is valid for 30 days, says ministry

Cairo: Saudi authorities have said that overseas Muslims with visas issued for performing umrah or lesser pilgrimage are allowed to move across the kingdom during their stay.

“The stay duration for arrivals on Umrah visas are 30 days,” the Ministry of Umrah and Hajj was quoted in the local media as saying.

“The umrah pilgrim is free to move between the cities of Holy Mecca and Madina and across all cities of the kingdom during his stay,” the ministry added.

Saudi authorities have recently eased measures for performing umrah as the kingdom has largely relaxed restrictions against COVID-19.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has lifted several precautionary measures including cancellations of permits for praying at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and visiting the Prophet’s Mohammed Mosque in Medina.

The Ministry has also said the immunisation check to enter both holy sites has been scrapped for all worshippers.

The ministry has, moreover, cancelled the once-obligatory registration of immunisation data for overseas Muslims to get an umrah permit.

A mandatory presentation of a negative PCR test result to get access to both sacred places has been lifted too.

In recent weeks, Saudi Arabia has seen a steady fall in COVID-19 infection rates.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah on Sunday disclosed the expiry date for Umrah visas for foreign pilgrims, as the country gears up to welcome Hajj pilgrims in the upcoming months.

According to the  Saudi Gazette , the ministry announced that the expiry date for Umrah visas has been pushed back Dhul Qadah 29 to Dhul Qadah 15

This means that foreign Umrah pilgrims must leave the country before Dhul Qadah 15.

This move comes as part of the government’s attempt to ensure a smooth flow of pilgrims to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah from all over the world for the annual pilgrimage of Hajj.

The ministry also clarified that the validity of the three-month Umrah visa will begin from the date of issuance, instead of previously approved validity from the date of entry into Saudi Arabia.

This clarification in response to a number of inquiries made through X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to the minstry, the validity of the Umrah visa is three months from the date of its issuance, provided that it expires no later than Dhul Qadah 15.

This is in accordance with the coordination made between the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“This date of Dhul Qadah 15 was approved, two weeks (14 days) earlier than the previously announced expiry date of Dhul Qadah 29,” the Ministry added.
