Residents of a nondescript high-rise wake up one day to find their building covered by a void that annihilates anything that comes in contact with it. Convinced right away that this “black veil” is here to stay, the hundred-odd occupants go into survival mode, forming racial gangs, hoarding resources and putting up barricades. Nobler values yield to primitive instincts and the foundations of civilisation begin to crack.

French filmmaker Guillaume Nicloux’s nihilistic dystopian drama La tour proceeds with the inexorability of a boulder rolling down a hill. Taking the premise at face value, Nicloux sidesteps logical explanations, presenting the veil as an abstract entity that simply exists. This purity of outline allows the film to accommodate several allegorical interpretations: religious, social and existential. Even so, La tour is a blunt, brutal confrontation with France’s contemporary race relations, with the Black-Blanc-Beur utopianism of yore making way for a bleaker, more desperate vision.

Shot entirely indoors in artificial light, this quintessential product of the pandemic era envisages a world in which the public realm is a source of constant dread. Yet the exterminating angel in this unforgiving tower in lockdown isn’t the world, but humankind itself.

A French tenement building is covered in a thick dark cloud blocking all contact with the outside world. With only what they have inside the tower, the residents of the building must do what they can to survive. But as time passes and there is seemingly no end to this supernatural quarantine, floors of the tower become segregated by race, food becomes scarce, and humanity seeps from the tenants by the day.

LOCKDOWN TOWER covers seven long years trapped inside this tower, taking the madness of a lockdown to horrifying and dreadful lengths. The premise is obviously a response to the recent lockdown we all experienced and does a great job of conveying the confusion, panic, and eventual acceptance to this new way of life we all went through just a few short years ago. LOCKDOWN TOWER is a rather joyless film, showing nothing but the hurt and heartache that comes when society falls. Even something as simple as a bedtime story rings with utter sadness and despair. So if you’re looking for a cheery horror flick, this ain’t it.

LOCKDOWN TOWER does go to exhaustive lengths to show people at their worst. Racism, xenophobia, ageism, and even the right to have a child is changed due to the new situations. Food is scarce that animals that were kept as pets are now bred for food. It gets so bad that children are even made so that the adults can survive. It’s pretty gruesome stuff and while the film doesn’t show every gory detail, the look of soulessness in the eyes of the survivors shows that they’ve witnessed some horrible things and most likely did a lot of them too in order to survive.

The metaphor is thick in LOCKDOWN TOWER. Ending with a bedtime story that is a little too opaque for me, I feel some kind of resolution to this predicament would have finished this story off more appropriately. Having the darkness pass and seeing how much society has devolved when they finally came out of their homes would have made the point LOCKDOWN TOWER is trying to make much more thunderous in my opinion. Still, the quiet way this one fades out keeps in tone with the rest of this bleak film.

There are quite a few lulls as director/writer Guillaume Nicloux is much more interested in having the viewer wallow in the dread that give you a punchy story. Most of the action, save for the initial panic, is cut away from, while the bulk of the time focuses of these poor souls simply trying to survive. Reminiscent of Xavier Gens’ THE DIVIDE from more than a decade ago, LOCKDOWN TOWER might be a bit too soon for some, but if you’re looking for a survival film that is hopeless, bleak, and nihilistic, this one’s for you.

Waterbomb Festival 2024 Reveals Seoul’s Date, Lineup & Los Angeles as New Venue

Waterbomb Festival 2024 has revealed its lineup of artists and dates for the Seoul location. The famous Korean music festival will also occur this year in Los Angeles.

The official website of Waterbomb Festival has announced all its locations for its 2024 edition, including Japan, Singapore, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Taipei, Ho Chi Minh, Los Angeles, and Dubai. The dates and ticketing information for the world tour are yet to be revealed.

All About Waterbomb Festival 2024

The Waterbomb Festival 2024 will be in Seoul from July 5 to 7. In addition to Seoul, the K-pop festival will occur in South Korea’s Jeju, Daegu, Busan, Incheon, Daejeon, Suwon, and Gwangju. Before Seoul’s grand celebration, the Waterbomb Festival will kick off in Xiamen on May 18 and 19.

Will it be easy to find my way in the Moscow Metro? It is a question many visitors ask themselves before hitting the streets of the Russian capital. As metro is the main means of transport in Moscow – fast, reliable and safe – having some skills in using it will help make your visit more successful and smooth. On top of this, it is the most beautiful metro in the world !

. There are over 220 stations and 15 lines in the Moscow Metro. It is open from 6 am to 1 am. Trains come very frequently: during the rush hour you won't wait for more than 90 seconds! Distances between stations are quite long – 1,5 to 2 or even 3 kilometers. Metro runs inside the city borders only. To get to the airport you will need to take an onground train - Aeroexpress.

RATES AND TICKETS

Paper ticket A fee is fixed and does not depend on how far you go. There are tickets for a number of trips: 1, 2 or 60 trips; or for a number of days: 1, 3 days or a month. Your trips are recorded on a paper ticket. Ifyou buy a ticket for several trips you can share it with your traveling partner passing it from one to the other at the turnstile.

On every station there is cashier and machines (you can switch it to English). Cards and cash are accepted. 1 trip - 55 RUB 2 trips - 110 RUB

Tickets for 60 trips and day passes are available only at the cashier's.

60 rides - 1900 RUB

1 day - 230 RUB 3 days - 438 RUB 30 days - 2170 RUB.

The cheapest way to travel is buying Troyka card . It is a plastic card you can top up for any amount at the machine or at the ticket office. With it every trip costs 38 RUB in the metro and 21 RUB in a bus. You can get the card in any ticket office. Be prepared to leave a deposit of 50 RUB. You can get it back returning the card to the cashier.

One turnstile at every station accept PayPass and payments with phones. It has a sticker with the logos and located next to the security's cabin.

GETTING ORIENTED

At the platfrom you will see one of these signs.

It indicates the line you are at now (line 6), shows the direction train run and the final stations. Numbers below there are of those lines you can change from this line.

In trains, stations are announced in Russian and English. In newer trains there are also visual indication of there you are on the line.

To change lines look for these signs. This one shows the way to line 2.

There are also signs on the platfrom. They will help you to havigate yourself. (To the lines 3 and 5 in this case).

San Diego FC Chrome Ball Tour

San Diego FC (SDFC) 2024 Chrome Ball Tour presented by Trust & Will is headed to the city of Chula Vista for the fifth and largest stop of the tour on Saturday, May 4. The Chrome Ball Tour in Chula Vista will kick off with a Chula Vista first responders tournament, featuring the Chula Vista Fire Department and players from the Chula Vista Police Department .

The event will also feature a 3v3 street soccer tournament, a local car show, a Lucha Libre performance with Masked Republic, a San Diego FC Colors of the Community Fashion Show featuring a musical performance by Chula Vista natives Rossi Rock and Sebby OG, and musical acts featuring South Bay native DJ Beto Perez, world-renowned cumbia band Vilma Diaz y La Sonora, and San Diego native Lil Rob.

Additionally, the Chrome Ball Tour stop in Chula Vista will have a beer garden and a kids area that will include face painting, inflatables and more. The event is free to the public and will run from Noon to 10 p.m. PT.

“It’s been 30 years. Maybe it’s time to rekindle the flame of Nicole.”

Lifetime has officially announced its forthcoming docuseries on Nicole Brown Simpson , timed to the 30-year anniversary of her death. Titled The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and billed as an explosive two-night event, the four-part series will premiere June 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

As The Hollywood Reporter previously reported , despite the timing of the docuseries announcement coming so soon after Simpson’s death, The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson has been in the works for more than a year.

The documentary “provides an opportunity for Nicole’s own narrative and voice to be heard in one of the most notorious crimes and trials in history,” says Lifetime of the project, which features 50 participants of those who knew Nicole the best and unprecedented access to exclusive home videos and interviews.

The network says the docuseries will reveal “shocking new details in the tragic story” and will “shed new light” on her life and death, as Nicole’s sisters and closest friends “come forward for the first time to share her truth.”

“What happened to our sister Nicole should never have happened to her or to any other woman,” say the Brown sisters in a statement. “Her life was stolen from her and while her abuser is finally gone, it doesn’t take away the anguish we feel or the pain of her children who lost their mother. We hope that by sharing Nicole’s story, it will help others recognize the signs and get the help they need and her legacy will continue to live on.”

The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions for Lifetime and hails from the teams behind Lifetime’s acclaimed documentaries, with Jesse Daniels ( Surviving R. Kelly ), Melissa Moore ( The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard ), Rit Saraswat ( Surviving R. Kelly: Part II), Brie Miranda Bryant ( Where is Wendy Williams?, Janet Jackson, Surviving R. Kelly ), Kim Chessler ( Dance Moms ) and Julie Pizzi ( Vanderpump Villa ) as executive producers.

The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson is part of Lifetime’s Stop Violence Against Women initiative and in collaboration with the National Domestic Abuse Hotline. Lifetime is also producing new PSAs, one featuring Denise and Tanya Brown, and another featuring Jana Kramer, a survivor of domestic abuse and the star of Lifetime’s Gaslit By My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story , which debuts the following week.

Lifetime Television is part of A+E Networks, a joint venture of the Disney-ABC Television Group and Hearst Corporation. A+E Networks has worldwide distribution rights.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Grace Kim stumbled to a 5-over 76 on Saturday in the LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship — and still held onto a share of the lead.

It was that kind of a day at Wilshire Country Club, the tree-lined layout made difficult by bumpy poa annua greens and tricky wind conditions.

“It’s tough for everyone today,” Kim said. “It was just one of those days. It’s just golf.”

Four strokes ahead entering the day after rounds of 64 and 66, Kim was tied with fellow Australian Hannah Green, the defending champion who saved par with a 12-footer on the par-3 18th for a 70. They were at 7-under 206.

“The putt that I made on 18 almost felt like I birdie,” Green said.

Maja Stark, playing alongside Kim in the final group, bogeyed the 18th for a 73.

“You know that you can’t take every missed putt too personally because that’s going to happen for everyone,” Stark said.

The Swede was a stroke back with Jin Hee Im, the South Korean player who had a back-nine 30 in a 63 for the best round of the day, and Germany’s Esther Henseleit (71). Nasa Hataoka of Japan was 5 under after a 64.

Kim bogeyed the par-5 second hole and had a double bogey on the par-3 fourth. She also dropped shots on the par-4 10th and 16th holes.

“I tried to stay in the present of just the next shot, giving myself good chances,” said the 23-year-old Kim, The LOTTE Championship last year in Hawaii for her first LPGA Tour title. “I know I had a few three-putts in there, but just keeping my head in the game and not losing that shot focus.”

The 27-year-old Green rebounded from a 2-foot par miss on the par-4 17th with the par save on 18. After bogeying three of the last six holes on the front nine, she played a four-hole stretch on the back nine in 4 under. She eagled the par-5 13th and birdied 14 and 16, then missed the short putt on 17.

“I didn’t really have many full swings. Had a lot of half-shots in,” said Green, the winner in Singapore early last month for her fourth LPGA Tour title. “With the greens firming up and getting bouncy it kind of made it hard to completely trust that shot.”

Stark finished second last week outside Houston in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda in the first major of the year. Korda withdrew Monday, a day after her record-tying fifth straight victory.

Billie Eilish is embarking on a world tour in support of her forthcoming third album, “ Hit Me Hard and Soft ,” set for release on May 17.

The Live Nation-produced tour will kick off in September in Quebec and continue through North America until December. In February 2025, Eilish will hit Australia, followed by Europe, the U.K. and Ireland from April to late July.

Tickets will be available for presale for American Express cardholders on April 30, with additional presales running throughout the week. General tickets go on sale May 3 through Ticketmaster .
