Can you return items purchased from Trek Bike?

Trek Bike accepts returns within 30 days of the original purchase date. 

There are a few different ways to go about the return depending on whether you purchased your item from an authorized Trek retailer or online at trekbikes.com.

No matter how you purchased your item, you can return it either in-store or through the mail depending on your preference. 

Here is a little more about what you need to know about each return type with Trek:

In-person returns

If there is an authorized Trek retailer near you, you can return your item right in the store for a refund. You can find a Trek retailer in your area on their website . 

To return in-store, you need the item you wish to return and your store receipt or a copy of your confirmation email for online orders. 

If you purchased a bike that was assembled in the store, you will need to return the bike to the store that originally built it for you. 

Mail returns

If you can’t get to a Trek retailer or just prefer to mail in your return, you can easily do so as well. 

If you have an account with Trek online, your return shipping is always free. You can print a prepaid shipping label right from your account, package up your item, and drop it off for shipment. 

If you did not set up a Trek account and just checked out as a guest or purchased in a Trek store, you will be responsible for return shipping costs.

Trek asks that you ship your item using UPS, FedEx, or USPS so that you can track the status of your return should anything happen to it in transit.

What are the exclusions under the Bontrager Warranty?

The Bontrager Warranty excludes coverage for the following situations:

– Regular wear and tear – Incorrect assembly – Corrosion

– Improper maintenance – Installation of components, parts, or accessories that were not originally intended for or compatible with the bicycle as sold – Damage or failure resulting from accidents, misuse, abuse, or neglect

– Labor costs for replacing or changing parts

– Non-proprietary products not covered by the original manufacturer’s warranty.

What warranty policies cover Trek and Bontrager goods?

Trek and Bontrager goods are backed by comprehensive warranty policies and return programs to provide customers with confidence in their purchases and ensure they can fully enjoy their products.

How long do you have to return items to Trek Bike? 

You must initiate your return with Trek within 30 days of purchase. 

You can return in-store within that 30-day window. If you are returning your item by mail, make sure you initiate the return in your online account within 30 days.

Once it is initiated, ship your item back to Trek as soon as you can to avoid delays with your return and refund processing. 

Can I make split payments for my order on trekbikes.com?

On trekbikes.com, we currently do not support split payments using multiple credit cards for a single transaction. If you have multiple items and wish to use more than one credit card, we recommend placing separate orders for each item.

Alternatively, you can choose to visit a nearby Trek dealer as they may have the capability to process payments using multiple cards.

How are credit card returns processed?

Credit card returns are typically processed promptly upon confirmation of the return. In most cases, customers can expect to see the credit reflecting in their accounts within 4 to 10 business days. However, it is advised to allow for up to 30 days for the credit to appear.

Will Trek Bike refund shipping charges on returns?

Any customer with a Trek account will receive a prepaid shipping label to ship back returned items.

If you do not have an account set up, you will have to pay for shipping out of pocket and it will not be reimbursed by Trek. 

It’s also important to know that if you receive a damaged or incorrect item from Trek, they will reimburse you for any shipping charges you paid on the original order as well.

If this happens to your order, make sure to let them know when you initiate your return to ensure you are fully reimbursed. 

Under what conditions will shipping charges be refunded by Trek?

Shipping charges will be refunded by Trek under the following conditions: 1) If Trek ships the incorrect merchandise 2) If the merchandise was shipped damaged or defective 3) If the merchandise was damaged in shipping.

How long will it take to receive my refund from Trek Bike? 

Most refunds will credit to your account within 10 days of the return being processed by Trek. However, depending on your bank your refund may take up to 30 days to show up.

If after 30 days you have not received your refund, please contact Trek and they will make it right for you. 

Can you return used items to Trek Bike if it doesn’t work?

Trek is great about returns. They offer an “Unconditional Guarantee” return policy within 30 days of your purchase.

What this means for you as the customer is that if you are not satisfied with your order for any reason, you can return it for an exchange or refund. 

This guarantee applies to anything you purchase, even if it has been installed on your bike or used. 

Trek does ask that you clean the item thoroughly before returning it to them for a refund or exchange. Any items received that are not cleaned to Trek’s standards will; be shipped back to you at your expense. 

The holiday return policy for orders on Trekbikes.com states that any orders placed on Trekbikes.com between November 24th and January 1st are eligible to be returned up until January 31st.

Does Trek offer international shipping services?

Currently, our shipping services are available exclusively for addresses within the United States. Please note that we do not provide shipping to freight forwarding addresses at this time.

Bicycles & Merchandise

If you are not fully satisfied for any reason, you may return the item for a full refund within 30 days. 

All returns/exchanges must be brand new and accompanied with all of the original packaging, paperwork and receipt. Bicycles must be in showroom condition. Subject to manager's approval. 

The refund will be issued in the same form as the original payment. 

Exceptions: For credit/debit card returns, the exact card must be present.  Cash or debit purchases over $250 will be refunded in the form of a mailed check within 10 business days of return.

Exceptions: Special order items are subject to a 25% restocking fee.

LABOR FEES ARE NOT REFUNDABLE .

Trek Warranty/Customer Service Experience?

What's you guys experience with Trek when it comes to warranty stuff? I ask because I am really struggling to stay on board the Trek train. I bought a ProCal and within 300 miles the rear wheel bearings were shot. I was wanting carbon wheels anyways so I took it as a good opportunity to buy a set of Kovee 23 wheels. That was November 8th. Since then the original stock wheel has been at the shop. Trek first sent the wrong bearings. Then the shop discovered the end cap was damaged as well. Trek has sent 3 different end caps, all of them were the wrong one and did not fit. I STILL don't have a stock rear wheel. Now, I broke the rear Kovee hoop 2 weeks ago. I go to my Trek shop and he calls them up. They are going to warranty it for the 200$ replacement fee listed in their wheel protection agreement. Since I don't have the Kovee OR the stock wheel, the rep said they would just ship a new Kovee and new stock wheel (since they can't figure out what parts to ship for the original one) at the same time. He was on speaker, so I heard with my own ears they were shipping out last Monday, January 15th. Fast forward to today. It has been 3+ months with no stock wheel and 2 weeks with no replacement carbon wheel. Does Trek always suck this bad? Or am I just this unlucky?:madman:

I have had only very good experiences with Trek warranties. I have had three warranties issues on an old '12 OCLV Superfly 100 frame: 1. delamination in the seat tube--replaced front triangle in about a week. 2. creaked chainstay right behind the chain wheel (this happened twice)--both times replaced in about a week. That frame was notorious for problems. But it did ride well! It could be your shop's relationship with Trek. Perhaps they have an outstanding balance owed to Trek for bikes and/or parts. Bike manufactures don't like to continue supporting bike shops that owe them money. (It is important to note, that I don't know you or your shop and this is pure speculation on my part.) Maybe it is time to see if your bike shop can contact the Trek outside rep. They often have more information and can get things moving along, that is if the relationship between the rep, the shop, and Trek are all in good standing. The last option is to take the whole mess to a different Trek bike shop and see if they can do something to get you back on your bike asap. Even if that other shop is in a different town nearby, it could be worth the effort. Another option is to call Trek customer service directly yourself. Know that this is not normally received well by your LBS. It undermines that relationship. Trek is one of the largest bike manufacturers in the world. Because of their scale, sometimes things fall through the cracks. That is part of the reason it is so important to have a good relationship with your LBS and they in turn have a good relationship with their suppliers. Trek generally has a good staff working, both in house as well as representing their line as outside reps. Good luck and in the future, consider some different wheels made by someone other that Trek! Haha!

It sounds like the issue is not Trek, but your local shop. I’ve had nothing but good experience with Trek, and have heard numerous stories of Trek replacing wheels and frames when in marginal circumstances. ANY Trek authorized dealer can handle warranties. I had my 9.8 frame replaced with an upgraded 9.9 frame/ shock after discovering a few small cracks around the seat/top tube junction. Trek, along with my LBS were excellent. I had an answer within a few hours and my new frame at the shop and built up all within about 4 days. I’ll forever stay with Trek because of my experience and I can be confident spending my money on their brand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have to say that my warranty experiences with Trek have been excellent. The issues involved blown shocks, bad wheel bearings, and bad pivot bearings on two different bikes. Sorry you're running into obstacles.

Definitly a shop issue. This is not typical of Trek Warranty. I process a number of warranties through Trek every year (for the last 18 years) and have never had a situation like this. I tend to stay on top of my claims though, and call Trek if things aren't happening fast enough for my liking. I also double check through the tech site to make sure I'm getting the right parts.

My experience with Trek across 3 bikes, Superfly FS, Fuel Ex and Remedy has been nothing short of exemplary.. they usually decide quickly and get the new item to the LBS in short order. My only delays have been waiting for 9.9 frame parts to be made, painted and sent to the LBS. All fitting has been at their expense and comms have been good. I had a problem with a set of Line Pro 30 wheels and they replaced them too... It's been a factor for me on MTB's so getting warranty items resolved makes a difference. The LBS relationship makes a difference in my view....

I work P/T in a trek shop. I have seen them cover stuff that was at best questionable and at worst an outright lie. They have the best coverage in the business in my opinion. They are usually faster than this though. We at our shop will keep the customer informed on issues like this.  

Only one frame issue in 31 years of riding Treks. Painless exchange. I will only buy new Treks. Local shop stands behind anything. Not cheap but worth it.

2016 Farley 9.6 was my first Trek, I love the bike but the freehub has failed 3x. The pawls blow. I've had the bike 1.5 years and they just warrantied the hub again. So, shitty hub but awesome of Trek to stand behind it. They also warrantied the frame, with a matching fork.  

I have had a couple warrant claims with frames and components over the years and Trek has been fantastic. My local bike shop West Michigan Bike & Fitness has been amazing in helping me and I think this is the key to getting things done quickly with any manufacturer when you have an issue.

Local shop and Trek came through for me when I cracked the frame on my '16 Fuel EX 9.8. Trek gave me a couple of options, and I went with a credit value of above blue book on the 9.8 toward a '18 Trek. I went down two notches in the model line, so the credit will cover a whole new bike plus a couple of upgrades. Bike is on the way as we speak. Whole process took less than two weeks. With service like this I'm sticking with Trek as long as they keep making bikes I like. FWIW Trek would have replaced the frame with an '18 9.8, but there were many compatibility issues. They said they would cover the cost of new parts, but I would have ended up with a mix of old and new parts. The bike was old enough that some of the older wear items I would be keeping were due for replacement or service. New bike with all new warranties at no out of pocket expense sounder better to me.

Hey all - wanted to resurrect this thread and get some advice - I hit up against some rocks and put 2 cracks in my '17 Slash. I submitted for crash replacement through LBS and was offered 20% off MSRP for a new frame + I would have to pay shipping, a LBS handling fee and tax (I'm assuming this is taxed although I didn't explicitly ask - and tax her is 8.5%), so I would have to pay over $3300 to crash replace a $3600 a frame that is a year old! I wasn't expecting a free frame or anything, but 20% off full retail + fees does not really seem to be taking care of your customers. I could just wait for a demo day or sale and get a much better deal. Researching the interwebz, it seems like many Trek crash replacements and especially other bike companies have taken care of their customers much better than this - I see a lot of 20% off dealer cost (which I believe is 20% off $2500, a much more generous crash replacement that is actually taking care of a customer). How do I get these more generous crash replacements? Do I bypass the LBS and contact Trek directly? Also, I do have a couple industry contacts, but I hate calling in favors and giving them more work to do on my behalf unless it would make a huge difference, which may be worth it in this situation. Thanks for your advice!

Where can I have a Trek bike delivered?

You can opt to have your new Trek bike shipped to your home address or your local Trek store. If you opt for their click-and-collect option, you can pick your order up within 3 to 5 working days. 

Will Trek bikes go on sale?

Does Trek offer a lifetime warranty?

Yes. In the UK and US, it’s normally either one or two years against defects in manufacturing or materials. There’s also a one-year crash replacement warranty on helmets. Bike frames are warrantied for life for the original owner and a limited-time warranty may also be offered to subsequent owners. Most other items are warranted for one or two years. 

Do I have to pay for the assembly of a bike?

No. If you order a bike from Trek’s site, it will be assembled for free by the retailer. Allow at least 24 hours for them to build and check your bike. 

Why is my promo code not working?

Some of Trek’s promo codes may be valid for one full-price item for a limited time, so check that you’ve got a qualifying item in your cart and the expiry date of your code. You can’t usually combine promo codes with other offers. If it’s been applied, you should see it reflected in your price total on checkout. 

Does Trek accept returns?

Yes, Trek allows you to return any item within 30 days of purchase. They must be in as-new condition and with their original packaging to qualify for a full refund. Okay! If you do need to make a return here's what you need to know:

30-Day Easy Return Policy

If for any reason you're not happy with anything you ordered from us, just send it back to us within 30 days by following the instructions below.

The product must be in unused or 'like-new' condition - we encourage you to try any of our products to make sure you love it, but we cannot accept returns that are abused, stained, washed/laundered, have visible pet hair, or are otherwise damaged (unless the damage is the result of a manufacturer's defect, in which case it's likely covered under our  Lifetime Warranty ).

Holiday Extension: All purchases made in November or December are allowed an extended return window thru 1/31. We'll make it easy for the recipient to handle any returns or exchanges.

How To Return/Exchange An Item

If you'd like to return or exchange an item, just click the link below to initiate your return request.

We'll help you confirm that your item(s) are eligible for return/exchange and see if there's anything we can do that might help you avoid having to send an item back.

Once approved, we'll provide you with a paid postage label so you can easily send the item back to us. (The cost of the postage will be deducted from your refund unless the return is our fault, see below for details)

When sending items back, be sure to include a copy of your order receipt email or order number along with any pertinent phone/email contact info, so we can reach you if necessary.

How Much Do I Get Back?

When we receive the item(s) we'll process a refund for the full amount you paid for the item(s)  minus:

  • The postage paid on your initial order, along with any Shipping Protection added (if applicable) .
  • $10 Flat Rate Return Label Fee (Contiguous US) . Of course, if the return or exchange is due to an error on our part, we'll gladly cover the shipping costs for you and not deduct it from your refund. Note: If you're returning an item from outside the Contiguous US we'll need to deduct the actual cost of the return postage label.

If exchanging for a different item, we'll refund you if the difference is in your favor or collect the necessary payment info from you to ship the new item(s) to you.

PLEASE NOTE:  If the items we receive back from you are damaged, or not in the condition required by our Return Policy, we will not be able to issue you a refund as described above. We don't like that situation any more than you do, so please only send back items that are in like-new condition. If you have any questions about whether your return will be accepted before you send it, don't hesitate to reach out. If we have to decline your returned item, you will need to cover the postage cost if you'd like the item returned to you.

What If I Don't Have My Receipt?

If you purchased an item from us and don't have a receipt or proof of purchase we may be able to offer you store credit that can be used on our website (on a case-by-case basis).

This only applies to items that are returned in new/unused and re-sellable condition.

Trek Light Gear cannot accept returns for any used (even slightly-used) items without proof of purchase or receipt from our store. If you purchased through our website, or received a gift from someone, and can't find your receipt just let us know and we can help you look up the original order in our system.

If you purchased one of our products from another reseller or shop, you'll need to return the item to the store you purchased from and abide by their return policy.

We have made our inventory available to all Trek retailers so that you find the right bike for you when you want it. In order to give you the best possible riding experience, your retailer will need at least 24 hours to build and fine-tune your new bike before it is ready for collection or delivery. There are no additional assembly charges for bikes. You will be contacted once it is ready for pick-up or delivery. Some Trek bikes come with a kickstand and/or pedals as standard equipment and some do not. Please make arrangements with your Trek retailer if you are unable to pick up within 14 days. Picking up your order Please bring a copy of your receipt, the card used in the transaction, and a photo ID. Bike order Bikes are intricate machines. Each order can only use one shipping method. If you want an order to ship to your home and your local retailer you will need to place a separate order for each method of delivery desired.

International shipping
