The 1975 announce 39-date North American tour

The massive still...at their very best tour features shows across the u.s. and canada, beginning in september of this year..

1975 pga tour schedule

The 1975 have announced a behemoth run of shows in the U.S. and Canada slated for this fall. The band's Still...at their very best tour kicks off on September 26 at Sacramento's Golden 1 Center, and will wrap up almost three whole months later at Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena. In celebration, they've also released Episode 4 of their absurdist video series "A Theatrical Performance Of An Intimate Moment."

Still...at their very best is a continuation of the 1975's ongoing At Their Very Best tour, which has been marked by near-constant online discourse, mostly thanks to the antics of frontman Matty Healy. These include eating raw meat on stage, making out with fans, cameramen, and security guards, and — oh, yeah — dating Taylor Swift . These new shows promise an expanded production, but what that means is still anyone's guess.

Padraig Harrington, Sandra Palmer lead World Golf HOF class

  • ESPN News Services

PINEHURST, N.C. -- Three-time major champion Padraig Harrington was among six inductions into the World Golf Hall of Fame, closing out his acceptance Monday night by citing a line his late swing coach Bob Torrance always told him when they starting a practice session.

"These are the happiest days of our lives," Harrington said.

It was all so fitting. No one could claim to work harder than Harrington, who, even at 52, is still searching to get better. He remains willing to try just about anything yet he mentioned the constants in his career that allowed him to lead the way in Irish golf.

His wife of 34 years. The same equipment company, Wilson, and manager, Adrian Mitchell, for his entire career.

"I have a deep sense of satisfaction and validation," he said.

Harrington, whose 21 worldwide wins include the British Open in 2007 and 2008 and the PGA Championship in 2008, joined 19-time LPGA winner Sandra Palmer as the only living inductees.

"This really feels like a dream," Palmer said, who thrust both arms in the air when she was introduced to the 29 other members of the Hall of Fame in attendance.

LPGA great Beverly Hanson, former Open Championship winner and golf course architect Tom Weiskopf and former U.S. Open champion Johnny Farrell were to be inducted posthumously.

Also being inducted were the remaining seven founders of the LPGA Tour -- Alice Bauer, Bettye Danoff, Helen Dettweiler, Helen Hicks, Opal Hill, Sally Sessions and Shirley Spork -- who will be going in as a group. The other six founders previously were inducted on their own.

It will be the largest World Golf Hall of Fame class since 2008.

This was the 50th anniversary of golf's Hall of Fame, and it came full circle. It was created in 1974 at Pinehurst -- President Gerald Ford attended -- and later was run by the PGA of America until attendance lagged and it closed. A new one began in 1996 in St. Augustine, Florida.

Now it's back at Pinehurst, a practical move made possible when the USGA established a second office in Pinehurst Village, and the Hall of Fame now occupies the second floor of the "Experience Building" on its new campus. It is operated by the World Golf Foundation, with a board of leaders from golf's biggest organizations.

Harrington grew up in Ireland dreaming more about claret jugs and the Wanamaker Trophy than the Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame is largely an American thing, though Harrington fully understood that it was a label attached to the very best. That was the case particularly on the PGA Tour Champions when he heard about the "Hall of Fame" in reference to so many of his peers -- from Bernhard Langer and Vijay Singh , from Ernie Els to Fred Couples .

"You kind of look at these guys and and you want to be one of them. You want to be part of it," Harrington said last week. "And many of the guys on the Champions Tour, their careers were a little bit ahead of me so they were actually guys I would have looked up to when I was turning pro. They're guys I would have watched on TV at pro events.

"So it's nice to be part of that crowd."

He got his first big breakthrough at Carnoustie in 2007 when he overcame a double bogey on the final hole to beat Sergio Garcia to win the British Open. A year later, he won the Open at Royal Birkdale and a month later became the first European winner of the PGA Championship in 78 years.

He had three other wins on the PGA Tour, 12 other wins on the European Tour and five other on circuits around the world. He also played on six Ryder Cup teams and was captain in the 2021 matches at Whistling Straits.

Palmer was a two-time major champion among her 19 LPGA victories. She went seven years before winning her first LPGA event in 1971, and then she won with alarming regularity. Her first major was the 1975 U.S. Open.

Weiskopf, who died in August 2022 of pancreatic cancer, won 16 times on the PGA Tour and captured his lone major at Royal Troon in the British Open. His contributions extended to golf architecture and candid, unfailingly accurate commentary on television. His design work was known for the short par 4s, among the most exciting and enjoyable holes.

Hanson was renowned not only for what she won but whom she beat. The North Dakota native won 17 times on the LPGA Tour and three majors. She won her first event as a pro by beating Babe Zaharias and she won two of her majors by beating Louise Suggs.

Farrell previously was a member of the PGA Hall of Fame in Pinehurst before it moved. A 22-time winner, he was famous for his one-shot victory in a 36-hole playoff against Bobby Jones in the 1928 U.S. Open. He spent the second half of his life as a club pro at Quaker Ridge and Baltusrol.

2024 NBA playoffs bracket, schedule, scores: Celtics look to build on NBA Finals lead vs. Mavericks in Game 2

Boston will host dallas at td garden on sunday night.

play-in-1.png

The Boston Celtics made a huge statement in Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals and will look to build on their series lead when they host the Dallas Mavericks at TD Garden on Sunday night. Game 2 of this best-of-seven series will tip at 8 p.m. ET.

The Celtics, seeking their first championship since 2008, had six players score in double figures on Thursday. Jaylen Brown scored 22 points, Kristaps Porzingis made an immediate impact off the bench and added 20 as Boston flexed its muscles against Dallas in a 107-89 win  to open the series.

Dallas cut the deficit to eight points in the third quarter, but Boston answered with a 14-0 run to quickly pull away again. Luka Doncic led Dallas with 30 points, while P.J. Washington added 14 points and eight rebounds. Kyrie Irving , a former Celtic, scored just 12 points on 6-for-19 shooting, including 0-of-5 from 3-point range. More importantly, Irving has now lost 11 consecutive games  against his former team.

The Celtics are looking for their first NBA title since 2008. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are taking aim at their second title in franchise history and their first since 2011. Regardless of which of the three remaining teams wins the 2024 title, the NBA will have its sixth different champion in six years -- something that has not happened since 1975-1980 .

The postseason field started with 20 teams, and now we're down to two. The Warriors , Kings , Hawks and Bulls were ousted in the Play-In Tournament before the Pelicans , Suns , Clippers , Lakers , Heat , 76ers , Bucks and Magic were eliminated in the first round. The Cavaliers , Thunder , Knicks and Nuggets were sent home in the second round with the Pacers and Timberwolves bowing out in the conference finals.

Here's a look at the upcoming schedule, as well as all the playoff scores. All games airing on ABC, ESPN and NBA TV are streaming on  fubo  (try for free).

DUBLIN, Ohio – Officials of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday announced today that the Captains Club has selected Barbara Nicklaus as the 2025 Tournament Honoree during what will be the 50 th playing of the PGA TOUR Signature Event hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus.

Often referred to as the “First Lady of Golf,” and fittingly the inaugural recipient of the PGA of America First Lady of Golf Award in 1998, Barbara Nicklaus has been an influential figure in the game of golf, first and foremost as a guiding force behind her husband Jack Nicklaus throughout his Hall of Fame career. Instrumental in the formation of the PGA TOUR, Jack Nicklaus won 73 PGA TOUR titles and a record 18 major championships and has been a pioneering golf course designer with close to 320 courses to his credit.

In 1974, Jack Nicklaus opened Muirfield Village Golf Club, and he founded the Memorial Tournament in 1976, an endeavor he often has said wouldn’t have been as successful without the support and guidance of Barbara. That success includes raising more than $52 million thus far for central Ohio charities and beyond.

In that vein, Barbara Nicklaus has blazed her own trail with her steadfast devotion to family and community, and for decades has been known as one of the most tireless supporters of charitable causes, especially the health and well-being of children. In 2004, Jack and Barbara started the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, which has raised more than $200 million toward the mission of enhancing access to world-class health care for children and families in South Florida, across North America and beyond. The Foundation is now part of the Memorial’s collaborating charitable partners, along with Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, which has been a primary beneficiary of the Memorial Tournament since its inception.

“This honor is so incredibly special to me, and I can’t thank the Captains Club enough for thinking of me,” Barbara Nicklaus said. “When the Captains Club gathered for their annual meeting and our longtime friend Charlie Mechem called in to relay the news, I was overcome with emotion and, honestly, speechless. The Memorial Tournament has held such a special place in our family’s life. It’s been wonderful to walk side-by-side with Jack and to watch his dream become our reality over the years. Looking back at the list of those who have been honored since 1976, I can’t express how humbled I am to join this elite group that I have looked up to and respected for so long.”

Jack Nicklaus added: “Everybody has thought that this golf tournament was about Jack Nicklaus. Yes, Jack Nicklaus has been a big part of it, but Jack Nicklaus has always been a team and partnership with Barbara Nicklaus. Barbara Nicklaus has been the First Lady of Golf. She has received numerous awards for what she has meant to the game of golf. And the Captains Club felt it only fitting at the 50th playing of the Memorial Tournament that Barbara is the one who should be honored.

“I am so delighted and so happy, and I’m so proud of her. She's done so much for so many, and for 50 years here at Muirfield Village Golf Club she has contributed so much and has had very little recognition. It's been hogged by her husband. So to have this happen, I mean, when it happened the other day, the tears just ran down my face.”

Born Barbara Jean Bash on February 28, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, Barbara is the daughter of the late Stanley and Helen Bash of Clintonville, Ohio. Her father was a math teacher and her mother a home maker. After graduating from North High School in 1957, she attended The Ohio State University to study nursing. She met Jack Nicklaus during their first week on campus as freshmen, and they were married July 23, 1960.

Five years later, the Nicklauses took up residence in South Florida’s North Palm Beach, where they raised five children: Jack II, Steve, Nan, Gary and Michael. They have 24 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

As Jack marched on to a Hall of Fame career, Barbara was there every step of the way as a constant source of support and comfort. Along the way, she was a devoted mother while pursuing her passion for helping others. Her philanthropic efforts have had wide-ranging impact. In addition to serving as chair of the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, Barbara joined with Jack and the PGA TOUR to start Play Yellow, a golf industry-wide initiative that has raised more than $130 million in five years for the Children’s Miracle Network of hospitals.

Her resolute efforts on behalf of others have been recognized by several organizations. Among honors Mrs. Nicklaus has received are the 2015 Bob Jones Award given by the U.S. Golf Association and the 2019 PGA of America Distinguished Service Award.

Presented annually since 1955, the Bob Jones Award is the USGA’s highest honor, recognizing an individual who demonstrates the spirit, personal character and respect for the game exhibited by Jones, winner of nine USGA championships. Barbara and Jack are the only wife and husband to receive the award in separate years, as Jack received the Bob Jones Award in 1975. The PGA Distinguished Service Award has honored outstanding individuals who display leadership and humanitarian qualities, including integrity, sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the game of golf. The PGA honored Jack in 2000, on the eve of his final PGA Championship appearance.

“Barbara’s generosity of spirit and deep respect for the game have touched the lives of countless families throughout the world,” Thomas J. O’Toole Jr., president of the USGA in 2015, said of Barbara Nicklaus at the time she was honored. “Her dedication to support players and spouses, and advocacy for multiple causes, are worthy of our highest honor. She has been the rock for arguably the game’s greatest champion, while raising a family and devoting her heart and soul into what she believes in. We are proud to bestow this award upon her to recognize her lasting contribution to the game.”

Barbara Nicklaus also was instrumental in the creation of the PGA TOUR Wives Association in 1988. The association found its roots in the first TOUR wives golf tournament, featuring the husbands serving as caddies, at the 1987 Players Championship. The event was so impactful in raising charitable funds that some of the most active wives¾ Nicklaus, Patsy Graham, Vicky Waldorf and Maria Floyd¾decided to form a group for charitable work. Thus, the PGA TOUR Wives Association was born. For more than 35 years the organization has given back to the golf community and child-related charities through volunteerism plus more than $5 million in contributions. During that time, Barbara has served as a mentor, friend and inspiration to its members and beyond.

Twice the Nicklauses have been named Family of the Year in the world of golf.

Barbara Nicklaus will be honored during a ceremony at Muirfield Village Golf Club on the eve of the first round of the 2025 Memorial Tournament.
