Celebrity cruise ship in Alaska

Celebrity Cruises is known as an award-winning cruise line that provides upscale cruise experiences, and their sailings to Alaska are no exception.

They offer their guests the opportunity to discover the wild beauty of the Last Frontier with 6 and 7-day cruises along with optional land tours for a more immersive experience and the chance to explore the wonders of the Last Frontier.

With its growing fleet, Celebrity is sending three ships to Alaska for the upcoming cruise season , including the acclaimed Celebrity Edge, the first in its revolutionary series of ships that has won many awards. With 8 different itineraries , sailing both the Inside Passage and the Gulf of Alaska, there are ample ways to explore Alaska's ports of call and see its majestic glacial landscapes.

Since there are quite a few different options for a Celebrity cruise to Alaska, here is a breakdown of what you need to know when choosing an unforgettable Alaska cruise vacation.

Celebrity’s sailings to Alaska

Family excursion

For the upcoming Alaska cruise season, Celebrity has three of its award-winning ships sailing to Alaska, including Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Summit, and Celebrity Edge. All of these ships provide incredible onboard amenities and activities, including the cruise line’s renowned food and dining experiences.

With a number of cruises of the Inside Passage as well as sailings farther north to the Gulf of Alaska, Celebrity visits numerous fantastic ports of call as well as scenic viewing of glaciers such as Hubbard Glacier and Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier.

All of Celebrity's cruises to Alaska are 6 or 7 days, although there is the option to add land tours on southbound or northbound itineraries, with as much as a week to explore the interior region and Alaska in more depth. Embarkation for Celebrity’s Alaska cruises includes major port cities like Seattle and Vancouver or Seward , Alaska, for southbound sailings. Seattle can be very convenient for departure as it has many affordable flight options. For those who depart from Vancouver, a passport is required to fly into this Canadian port from the United States.

Celebrity’s Alaska itineraries

Dawes

Celebrity has numerous sailings throughout the Alaska cruise season with 8 different itineraries that sail both the Inside Passage and Gulf Of Alaska.

Most Celebrity's cruises are weeklong cruises, sailing roundtrip from Seattle or Vancouver. Celebrity also has its “Alaska Dawes Glacier" cruises, which are one-way cruises, either northbound or southbound, starting or ending in Seward, Alaska. The cruise line also offers a 6-night sailing.

Celebrity sails to several ports of call, including Ketchikan , Sitka , Juneau , Icy Strait Point , Skagway , Victoria, and Vancouver, Canada, with numerous excursion options. Scenic cruising of the incredible 30-mile Endicott Arm fjord to face Dawes Glacier, a 600-foot-tall wall of ice, is a can't-miss opportunity to see one of Alaska's top natural wonders. Other Alaska cruise highlights include charming coastal towns and plenty of chances to see local marine and animal life, including whales and bears.

Celebrity’s Alaska excursions

Bear

Celebrity offers a huge variety of excursions for guests to enjoy. They are categorized as sustainable, multi-day, wellness, culinary, cultural, adventure, aquatic, sightseeing, wildlife ,  flightseeing, and accessible. They also have Private Journeys, where the cruise line can create your own specific excursion that meets your interests and schedule. Another good option are their smaller group tours, which enhance the onshore experience without the hassles of dealing with being part of a larger group. Some highlights include:

  • Visit the Tongass National Forest, which covers close to half of the state and includes the largest temperate rainforest in the world.
  • See, learn, and interact with wildlife, including the majestic whales of the region, such as humpbacks and orcas, with a number of guided excursions on luxury catamarans, Zodiacs, and special safari vessels that visit well-known feeding grounds for whales.
  • Thrill-seeking activities, such as flightseeing, get the most majestic views of the rugged landscape, fjords , and glaciers . How about a helicopter ride to a glacier or ride the world’s longest ZipRyder at Icy Strait Point?
  • Enjoy world-class fishing and get the catch of a lifetime – salmon, halibut, Arctic Char, and others, depending on the season and location.
  • Explore the history and rich culture of Alaska with exceptional immersive excursions to watch, listen, see, and taste the story of the ancient Tlingit tribe through tours of villages and clan houses, totem carving demos, storytelling, and sampling of native foods.
  • Try some of the tastiest local cruising, including feasting on the freshest line-caught salmon, grilled to perfection and served in park-like outdoor settings or rustic lodges in view of a massive glacier.

Celebrity’s add-on land tours

Train

Celebrity's add-on land tours, "cruise tours" as they refer to it, give guests the opportunity to extend their cruise by as much as a week. On land, cruisers stay in authentic lodges and travel remote roads and railways in deluxe motor coaches and on a luxurious train with domed glass ceilings enough to places like Anchorage , Talkeetna, Denali , Fairbanks , Homer, and Alyeska.

Accommodations for land tours are among the best lodgings available in the Alaksa interior with boutique style and local properties range from the luxurious Alyeska Resort, whose amenities include a heated pool with mountain views, to the charmingly rustic Denali Park Village, whose buildings are tucked into a forested 20-acre site along the Nenana River.

Another highlight for land tours is the Wilderness Express, where passengers travel from Anchorage to Fairbanks with 360-degree windows and onboard cuisine.

What to know when picking a Celebrity cruise to Alaska

Fjord

Celebrity is known for its sophisticated ships and focus on service. For those who love upscale ship amenities while cruising Alaska, Celebrity is a great choice. The cruise line provides for a more quiet and relaxed cruise experience. With a couple of different ships to choose from, including the popular Celebrity Edge, it can make for a perfect Alaska cruise vacation. Some points to consider when booking a Celebrity cruise for your Alaska cruise vacation:

  • Many Celebrity cruises tend to be popular with the 40/50+ age demographic, but families are welcome. While they do have complimentary kids programs onboard. Their ships do lack many of the bells and whistles, such as sky-high slides, waterparks, splash pads, and rock climbing. This is something to consider for families traveling with kids who may miss those signature onboard activities found on Carnival Cruise Line , Norwegian Cruise Line, and Royal Caribbean ships.
  • Celebrity cruise fares can be higher priced than the other major cruise lines, but they do offer a number of ongoing promotions, which makes it more affordable than people might think. Currently, there are cruises for the 2024 Alaska season that start as low as $295 per person for a weeklong cruise.
  • North or southbound cruises provide add-on tours, which can be a great way to explore in more depth, especially areas in the interior that are farther from cruise ports of call. Celebrity arranges all of the transportation, including trains, high end logging, and expert guides to accompany the tours.
  • Celebrity has a wide variety of cabin options, including luxurious suites, for those who want to splurge, with incredible in-cabin views of Alaska.

Cruising in Alaska

Is an Alaska cruise good for families?

Absolutely. With spectacular wildlife and dozens of thrilling, kid-friendly activities, Alaska is perfect for families. Kids will love spotting bears and whales, and the whole family can try sea kayaking, go zip lining, join guided hikes through the forest, and learn to drive a team of husky dogs. Here’s all you need to know about cruising in Alaska as a family.

Find out More

Can I add a land tour before or after my Alaska cruise?

With one of our 9- to 13-night Alaska Cruisetours, you can combine your seven-night Alaska cruise with an exciting land tour where you’ll visit destinations like cultured Anchorage, folksy Talkeetna, and wild Denali, giving you a more diverse experience of the magnificent 49th state and more opportunities to spot the Big Five: Moose, caribou, wolf, Dall sheep, and grizzly bear.

Will I see a glacier on my Alaska cruise?

Many of our itineraries spend a day cruising the beautiful Endicott Arm Fjord, the end of which is dominated by the mighty Dawes Glacier. Others take you to Hubbard Glacier, a vast wall of ice.

From Juneau, you can take an excursion to Mendenhall Glacier, where you can see fantastic views of the ice on a hike or join a kayak tour. From Seward, you could join a challenging hike to Exit Glacier, which flows slowly from the enormous Harding Icefield. Wherever you go in Alaska, you’ll see glaciers in the distance, high in the mountains, sometimes hanging dramatically over a wall of rock.

What should I pack for an Alaska cruise?

When you’re packing for an Alaska cruise, you’ll want to plan for any kind of weather, from hot sun to ethereal mist and rain showers—often in the same day. Layers, light waterproof jackets, good walking shoes, and a hat and gloves are the essentials; Alaska can be cold as well as warm and sunny.

Pack binoculars for spotting all that incredible wildlife, and camera lens or smartphone. You will also need sunblock and insect repellant. Remember swimwear for the ship; even if it’s cool outside, the Solarium on board is climate controlled and covered, so you can relax on a lounger in the warmth, and swim in the pool. Pack Evening Chic outfits for our dressier nights.

If you join activities like kayaking, all safety gear will be provided.

What are the best things to do in Alaska?

Alaska is all about exploring the Great Outdoors with family and friends, learning about US History and enjoying wildlife. There are hikes, kayaking, mountain biking, ziplining, and dog sledding for more energetic travelers.

For a less testing but equally thrilling experience, you could join a whale-watching tour, or take a helicopter or floatplane flightseeing trip, soaring over forests and glaciers. Alaska is brimming with history and culture, too. Explore the cultures of the Native Alaskans, and learn about the Klondike Gold Rush.

Make a point of trying the local cuisine in Alaska, which is famous for its seafood. You’ll find Alaskan salmon on every menu. King crab is delicious in a chowder, or with melted butter. Black cod and halibut are delicious and often served with fries; fish and chips is a popular dish in Alaska. You’ll also find seasonal berries on every menu, locally roasted coffee, and a wide assortment of craft beers.

What kind of animals can I see in Alaska?

You’ll likely see a wide variety of animals in Alaska. If you’re lucky, you can spot brown and black bears; the Spasski River Valley near Icy Strait Point is a great place for bear-spotting, as are the rivers around Ketchikan in July, peak salmon spawning season, when bears come to feast on the fish. For guaranteed bear viewing, head to the Fortress of the Bear near Sitka, which raises orphaned bears in a natural setting.

You’ll also see whales; the Inside Passage is a great place to spot humpbacks and orcas. Look out for bald eagles perched in the trees, steller sea lions spread out on rocks, and cute sea otters bobbing in the water. To search for the Big Five—grizzly bears, wolves, caribou, Dall sheep, and moose—extend your vacation with a Cruisetour and a visit to Denali National Park.

When's the best time to cruise to Alaska?

Alaska’s summer season begins in early May and extends until late September. There are compelling reasons to cruise to Alaska in any month of the summer, depending on whether you’re interested in maximizing your chances of spotting whales, seeing the Northern Lights, getting closer to glaciers, or traveling when there are fewer people around. See our blog post to learn more about the best time to cruise to Alaska.

What Celebrity ships sail to Alaska?

Celebrity Cruises has three ships operating different itineraries in Alaska. These include Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Solstice, and Celebrity Summit.

Where do Alaska cruises embark from?

Most of Celebrity’s Alaska cruises sail round-trip from either Vancouver or Seattle. You could also opt for a one-way cruise between Vancouver and Seward or Vancouver and Seattle. If you choose a Cruisetour, you could sail from Vancouver to Seward and then fly out of Anchorage after the tour. Other itineraries begin in Fairbanks and, after the land journey, sail south from Seward to Vancouver.

How long are Alaskan cruises?

Celebrity’s Alaskan cruises range from six to seven nights, but if you extend your voyage into a Cruisetour, the duration is nine to 13 nights. You could also consider extending your vacation with a night or two in either Vancouver or Seattle, depending on which itinerary you have chosen.

I went on a 8-day cruise to Alaska. Here are 12 things that surprised me the most.

  • I sailed on the Celebrity Millennium around Alaska as my first cruise since the height of COVID-19.
  • Even though it was summer, it was quite chilly outside, and the sun would set as late as 10 p.m.
  • I found out I could get meals from the main dining room ordered to my stateroom for dinner.

I sailed on the Celebrity Millennium for eight days.

My family of six took a cruise to Alaska on the Celebrity Millennium , which took us to places like Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Skagway, and the Hubbard Glacier.

Even though I've been on five cruises with my family, this was the first one since the height of the coronavirus pandemic, and there were some things I didn't expect about the overall experience.

Even though it was summer, it was still cold and sometimes too foggy to see anything.

alaska cruise celebrity

When most people book a cruise in the summer , they picture days lounging by the pool, drinking frozen margaritas, and wearing shorts.

The ports we visited in Alaska were all pretty warm, but days at sea were quite cold. It was often too windy to enjoy any of the outdoor activities, such as movies at the outside cinema or games by the pool deck.

We were also looking forward to sailing through Alaska's picturesque Inside Passage, but it was too foggy to see anything.

There were blanket stations throughout the pool deck — I grabbed a few to stay warm on my stateroom balcony, too — and on our very cold journey to Hubbard Glacier, the crew passed out hot chocolate to everyone outside.

I thought there would be more food options available throughout the day.

alaska cruise celebrity

Although there was plenty of specialty dining for dinner and a massive buffet on the pool deck, we'd occasionally come back tired and hungry from our excursions and realize there was nowhere unique to eat until our set meal time.

The buffet was closed between lunch and dinner, except for the pizza bar. Even the burger station on the pool deck wasn't available.

I'm glad I packed eye masks for sleeping.

alaska cruise celebrity

In Alaska, the sun rose as early as 3 a.m. and set as late as 10 p.m.

Since the sun was out so late, I didn't feel tired, but bringing an eye mask helped me maintain a regular sleep schedule .

I'd definitely recommend packing one, especially if you're a light sleeper like me.

Even though the ship provided hand sanitizer and masks, I didn't see many guests using them.

alaska cruise celebrity

As this was my first cruise since the pandemic, I was curious about what health protocols would be put in place, if any. For example, guests needed a negative COVID-19 test to board the ship. We also provided proof of vaccination.

I didn't notice any social-distancing measures on board, but I saw staff frequently wipe down buttons, tables, and other frequently touched surfaces. Plus, there was hand sanitizer near the dining areas.

I also appreciated that they gave guests reusable masks with Celebrity branding, but I rarely saw anyone wearing them. Every staff member I saw was masked, though.

The onboarding process and safety briefing was surprisingly easy.

alaska cruise celebrity

Unlike many other cruise lines I've sailed with, Celebrity only required us to watch a video and check in at the muster station as part of our mandatory safety briefing.

We checked in there with the staff as soon as we stepped on the ship and were then free to wander and go to our staterooms, making this the quickest briefing I've ever experienced.

Since our stateroom was part of the concierge class, we also got to enjoy an exclusive lunch in the main dining room. Overall, it was by far the smoothest embarkation process I've experienced.

We used our phones a lot more than I expected.

alaska cruise celebrity

Passengers could book dining reservations, check the daily itinerary, and even look at dinner menus in advance through Celebrity's app.

The general cruise fare included a basic Wi-Fi package, which pretty much only worked for the app.

We used the messaging feature to stay connected, setting up a group chat to let each other know where on the boat to meet and send reminders about dinner reservations or excursion times .

It was important to keep my phone charged to stay connected with my family and easily know what was happening around the ship.

We drank so much coffee.

alaska cruise celebrity

Celebrity offers passengers a basic drink package as part of the original fare.

My family stuck with the classic drinks package , which covered any drink up to $9. If we wanted to buy beverages that weren't part of our fare, like a premium cocktail , we only had to pay the difference.

I don't drink a lot of alcohol, but fortunately, the ship had a coffee shop that was covered by my package. Having access to unlimited iced lattes and specialty hot teas was a major highlight.

People were casually dressed in the main dining room.

alaska cruise celebrity

Although there were signs about not wearing flip-flops or shorts in the dining room, that definitely didn't stop anyone.

I noticed a lot of guests not following the dress code during dinner but still being allowed in the dining room.

Additionally, the formal nights called for "evening chic," which Celebrity describes as a "modern take on dressing up," listing cocktail dresses and designer jeans as examples.

Some passengers wore dresses and heels, but I was able to opt for sandals and a sundress, which was more comfortable.

I could've ordered pretty much any meal to my stateroom with room service, even food from the main dining room.

alaska cruise celebrity

One night, I started to feel bloated from the amount of food we'd been eating and skipped dining in the main room.

My parents let me know that our waiter asked if I wanted any food sent to me.

I could've ordered anything from the main dining room — even a plate of beef Wellington — and had it delivered to my stateroom.

Taking the steps to make our room feel like a home made a huge difference.

alaska cruise celebrity

We brought magnetic hooks to hang our laundry bags, and my brother and dad hung a shoe rack over their connecting door to maximize space.

To further personalize our room, we placed magnets that we purchased at various ports on our stateroom door.

By day six, we started to run out of things to do.

alaska cruise celebrity

Since this was a trip to Alaska and it was usually too cold to lounge on the pool deck or swim, we were surprised by the lack of onboard activities — especially during sea days.

We attended our fair share of trivia sessions, as well as silent disco nights, but would've enjoyed more options like bingo or mini golf.

Le Petit Chef was an adorable specialty-dining experience that felt worth the price.

alaska cruise celebrity

Normally, my parents stick to eating dinner in the main dining room instead of the specialty restaurants, but when we found out Le Petit Chef — an immersive 3D dining show featuring "the smallest chef in the world" — was offered on board, we booked a reservation right away.

The dining experience, which cost around $55 per person, features a cartoon chef that's projected onto the table and plates.

It was surprisingly heartwarming, and the food was pretty delicious , especially after watching the little animated chef cook it in front of us.

  • Author: Ariel Johns

alaska cruise celebrity

In celebration of the Alaska season opening, Celebrity Cruises, voted best premium cruise line 15 years running, welcomes you to embark on an Alaska cruise , and set sail on the adventure of a lifetime. Prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking beauty and awe-inspiring landscapes that Alaska has to offer while navigating through the icy waters, from the comfort of the award-winning luxury cruise ship, Celebrity Millennium ® . Bask in the magic of the region as you indulge in world-class cuisine, enjoy top-notch amenities, and immerse yourself in the wonders of Alaska while exploring the ports on your enchanting shore excursions.

Set sail on a 7-Night Southbound Glacier Cruise onboard the Celebrity Millennium ® . This floating ‘resort at sea’ is a stunning 2200-passenger ship that was completely revolutionized in 2019 after a multi-million dollar transformation, and recently became one of the first-ever cruise ships to receive the highly coveted Forbes Travel Guide 4-Star Rating.

7-Night Southbound Glacier Cruise Itinerary (Seward, Alaska – Vancouver, British Columbia)

Celebrity Cruises caters each cruise itinerary to allow for extraordinary shore excursions tailored to “Ignite your sense of wonder, inspiration, and adventure. “

Day 1 – Seward , Alaska

Located on the stunning Kenai Peninsula, Seward, Alaska, is a picturesque coastal town known for its breathtaking scenery, charming harbor, and abundant wildlife. Here you will board the Millennium and meet the staff. You’re welcome to get settled in and explore the ship before its departure.

Day 2 – Hubbard Glacier (Cruising)

The largest river of ice in North America, Hubbard Glacier is a magnificent icy wonder, measuring 7 miles wide, 76 miles long, and as tall as a 30-story building above the waterline. For the best view, stand on the helideck where the crew will be waiting with hot cocoa to keep you warm. The remainder of the day and evening are for cruising and enjoying all the activities the ship has to offer.

Day 3 – Juneau, Alaska

With roughly 12 hours of docking time, Alaska’s capital is yours to explore. Journey through the rainforest and soar above the ground at 1800 ft. on the Goldbelt Tram. After ascending to the top, take in the stunning scenery while sipping an ice-cold Alaskan beer at the Timberline Bar & Grill. From here, go outside and hike the trails. Breathe in the fresh air as you spot totem poles, bald eagles soaring above, icy waterfalls, and snow-capped mountains. After a quick round of shopping in the gift shop, return to sea level where downtown Juneau awaits you, with its artisan shops and restaurants like Tracy’s King Crab Shack and Hangar on the Wharf.

An image of Ariel holding a pint of beer with snow-capped mountains behind her, and an image of two men holding king crab legs at Tracy's King Crab Shack.

Day 4 – Skagway, Alaska

Travel back in time to the days of the Alaska gold rush in historic Skagway. Step into the shoes of the Klondike gold rushers, and learn the art of gold-panning. Dog lovers have an opportunity to learn about the Iditarod and watch a team of sled dogs in action as they run around the track during a demonstration. Then get ready for wet kisses and snuggles as you get up close and personal with the newest addition to the team, the new puppies. If relaxation and beauty are what you desire, the best way to see Skagway is aboard the White Pass Train. Sit back and relax as the vintage train winds its way through lush greens, rugged mountains, dramatic canyons, cascading waterfalls, and tunnels. You can opt for the long train ride, or follow my plan and do the sled dog excursion first, and then hop on the train for the remainder of its journey.

An image of Ariel holding a puppy next to a photo of lush greenery and snow-capped mountains in the background.

Day 5 – Icy Strait Point, Alaska

Icy Strait Point offers an authentic and immersive experience, allowing visitors to connect with the rich history of Alaska and explore the pristine wilderness of the region. For those who love spotting wildlife, book a whale-watching tour and witness humpback whales, orcas, seals, and otters playing in the water, as bald eagles circle overhead. Foodies will be in their element with a hands-on tasting session in Alaska’s Wildest Kitchen. And for the thrill ride seekers like myself, the Icy Strait Point ZipRider® is for you! The world’s longest zip line ride is a one-of-a-kind thrilling experience that you won’t want to miss. Take in the views as you journey to the top of Hoonah Mountain on a gondola ride. Then you’re off on a race to the bottom dropping 1330 ft., and soaring above the rainforest below at speeds exceeding 60 mph!

An up close image of Ariel on the zip rider next to a zoomed out picture with trees in the background.

Day 6 – Ketchikan, Alaska

Known as the “Salmon Capital of the World,” Ketchikan entices visitors with its charming waterfront, vibrant arts scene, and captivating outdoor adventures. The Best of Ketchikan by Land and Sea offers a tour of the coastline by boat, before stepping on land to explore an old cannery and native village. The Tongass Rainforest trail expedition takes tourists on a journey through the nation’s largest   national forest, Tongass Rainforest. Water lovers will love the Tatoosh Islands Wilderness Kayak Adventure. Spend two hours in a kayak paddling around the Tatoosh Islands while spotting bald eagles, harbor seals, and starfish.

Day 7 – Inside Passage (Cruising)

Get lost in the beauty of this coastal route. Relax on the ship while you take in the tapestry of snow-capped mountains, fjords, glaciers, lush forests, and abundant wildlife. This day is perfect for ship activities like wine tasting, treating yourself to a spa day, relaxing in the Persian Garden, taking a dip in the hot tub, or cozying up with a book and cocktail in one of the ship’s many lounges.

An image of Ariel in the deck hot tub. You can see land out the windows off the deck.

Day 8 – Vancouver, British Columbia

The cruise has come to an end with a morning arrival in British Columbia. Enjoy a last breakfast before departing.

The allure of an Alaska cruise is to soak up Alaska’s unparalleled beauty and explore its stunning landscapes, but Millennium’s onboard experience is equally as remarkable. Millennium also has three specialty restaurants, modern Italian Tuscan Grille, sushi bistro Sushi on Five, and a visual spectacle unlike any other, Le Petit Chef. AquaClass guests can also experience the bold and elegant Blu, and cutting-edge Luminae is exclusively reserved for guests of The Retreat®. All menus are posted daily on Celebrity’s app, making it helpful in deciding where to dine.

Beverage Program

The Millennium also caters to the cocktail and wine enthusiast, with menus offering a “diverse selection of classics, the latest trends, craft beers, and a wine selection that is unsurpassed.” Oenophiles will appreciate the ship’s robust wine program having won 100 Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence and 9 Best of Awards of Excellence – the most ever awarded in the cruise industry. Guests can partake in wine tastings and workshops, and can even craft their own wine with Blendtique Custom Crafted Wines. And for those who crave a good martini, visit the Martini Bar and order the martini flight. The ship’s flair bartenders will put on an eye-popping performance before serving you six miniature martinis.

Royal Caribbean to fix cruise infrastructure issue in Alaska — but it’s not what you think

Ashley Kosciolek

Ah, scenic Juneau, Alaska — where the allure of lush forests, cascading waterfalls and majestic glaciers draws as many as 16,000 cruise passengers a day. The downside? The constant influx of visitors is putting a strain on local infrastructure.

Royal Caribbean Group — which operates Royal Caribbean International , Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises — has partnered with Alaska Native corporation Goldbelt, Inc., to eliminate the problem of slow, unreliable Wi-Fi in port by bringing Starlink to several public areas and Juneau businesses.

alaska cruise celebrity

You might think connectivity isn't a big concern for people visiting the 49th state's remote, nature-forward capital, which can only be reached by air or sea, but it turns out that isn't the case. When the port is at maximum capacity, up to six ships can call there in a single day. With that many people in town, public Wi-Fi offered by local businesses is often difficult and frustrating to use for both visitors and locals.

"The number one complaint from this summer was a slow-down of internet speed during busy days downtown," McHugh Pierre, Goldbelt's president and CEO, said in a press release. "We are excited to collaborate with Royal Caribbean Group to explore a solution and add satellite internet capacity to town. This project will help locals and visitors have a better internet experience every day of the week."

Installation began the week of Aug. 26 at the Goldbelt Tram Lower Terminal and will continue north on Franklin Street. The pilot program's full range will be activated in the coming weeks. As each new hub becomes available, passengers, other visitors and locals will be able to connect for free and stay connected via one seamless network as they move about Juneau's downtown.

Royal Caribbean isn't new to Starlink, which was developed by Elon Musk's SpaceX company. In 2022, the Royal Caribbean family of brands was the first to commit to adding Starlink to its ships for faster connections at sea that allow everything from surfing the internet and checking email to video calling and streaming.

Cruise terminals where Royal Caribbean home ports its ships also provide connectivity for passengers, but this is the first time a cruise line has outfitted a large part of a downtown port area ashore with Wi-Fi.

"We are constantly striving to find innovative solutions to support our communities and enhance the travel experience for residents and cruise guests alike," Preston Carnahan, associate vice president of West Coast destinations for Royal Caribbean Group, said. "Our new pilot program aims to alleviate internet congestion and provide additional bandwidth for locals while providing internet connectivity for our guests from ship to shore."

The line's statement also stresses the need for user feedback to evaluate the program's effectiveness and determine whether similar initiatives will be rolled out in other ports.

For years, Juneau's borough officials have heard complaints that the influx of cruise passengers detracts from everyone's enjoyment of the city. On June 3, several major cruise lines — including Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line , Norwegian Cruise Line and others that are members of the Cruise Lines International Association — agreed to limit the total number of ships per day to five and the total number of passengers to 16,000 Sunday through Friday and 12,000 on Saturdays.

Gospel group the nelons’ frightening final moments revealed before deadly plane crash.

A new report has detailed the final moments on board the plane that crashed and killed three members of a musical group.

Celebrity Deaths 2023: In Memoriam

Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News.

A preliminary report revealed the final moments of the July 26 plane crash that left members of gospel group The Nelons dead.

The National Transportation Safety Board released the report on August 28, nearly a month after the fatal crash took the lives of six plane passengers and the pilot . Three of the deceased were members of the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame quartet.

The report revealed the pilot declared an emergency after the loss of autopilot and told the Salt Lake City Air Route Traffic Control Centre controller he was trying to regain control of the aircraft, as per Fox News Digital . Witnesses also described the moments before and after the crash.

The plane crash killed The Nelons band members Jason Clark, wife Kelly Nelon Clark and daughter Amber Nelon Kistler. Their other daughter, Autumn (left), was not on the plane at the time. Picture: Jason Kempin/Getty Images

“One witness located near the accident site heard a ‘loud whining noise’ that diminished and then increased followed shortly thereafter by smoke emanating from the area of the accident site,” the report read. “Another witness observed the airplane overhead in a ‘barrel roll’ manoeuvre and heard the airplane’s engine ‘roaring loud’ until they heard the airplane impact terrain. The witness stated that they saw the smoke in the area shortly after.”

The Nelons were part of the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame.

The Nelons’ co-founder Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler died in the crash, according to a statement shared by daughter and fourth band member Autumn Nelon Streetman.

“Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark,” she said at the time. “We appreciate your continued prayers, love and support as we navigate the coming days.”

Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler, their assistant Melodi Hodges, the pilot Larry Haynie, and his wife Melissa were also killed in the crash, according to Nelon Streetman.

The Nelons had been travelling to join Gaither Homecoming Cruise in Alaska. Autumn, who had not been travelling on the plane with her parents and sister, made it safely to Seattle at the time.

The preliminary report on the July 26 crash noted the information was “subject to change.” A final report on the probable cause of the crash could take up to two years to complete, National Transportation Safety Board spokesperson Keith Holloway previously said.

Autumn (left), who is expecting her first child, is mourning the loss of her parents and sister.

Prior to the single-engine Pilatus PC-12/47E turboprop airplane crashing, Dr. Alan Diehl, a former NTSB, FAA and U.S. Air Force Crash Investigator, Aviation Psychologist and author of, Requiem for Camelot , described to Fox News Digital what the passengers on the fatal flight may have experienced.

“Dark terror. That’s what you usually hear in my novel when I talk about [John F. Kennedy Jr.] falling from the sky,” Diehl shared. “I said it was all over, but the screaming, and that’s based on, you know, he didn’t have a voice recorder on his airplane, but I’m sure that he and his two passengers were just in terror as the plane was falling out of the sky, much like this one.”

“But of course, in this case, you know the actual breakup, we don’t know — the plane may have lost pressurisation. And in a way… if the breakup occurred early enough, and they lost pressurisation, they may have actually been unconscious or semi-conscious at the last minute or so. And that would be merciful. They would say that was God’s mercy.”
