Best cocktail bars in Paris

Fréquence

1.  Fréquence

If you like your music and you like your drink (that’ll be most of you, then), try Fréquence. The dozens of soul and reggae sleeves behind the counter give a good indication as to what you’ll hear here. The cocktails are diverse – and crucially, delicious.

Cambridge Public House

2.  Cambridge Public House

You’d struggle to find a cosier drinking den than this pub-like affair in the Marais. From the vintage furnishings to the piano in the corner to the staff in blue overalls, it’s all low-key and down-to-earth here. And in Paris’s flashy bar landscape, that makes a refreshing change. Care about how what’s in your glass gets there? Happily, the Cambridge only works with sustainable spirit brands.

Danico

3.  Danico

  • Bars and pubs
  • Cocktail bars
  • 2e arrondissement
  • price 3 of 4

At Danico, they know how to make you feel at home. With its green velvet armchairs, black-and-white marble counter and hugely catchy ’80s soundtrack, this Brooklyn-style bar – yes, another one – is pretty much destined for your Instagram feed. The staff are very welcoming. And the drinks? Totally fab.

Combat

4.  Combat

  • 19e arrondissement
  • price 2 of 4

This cosy Belleville hangout is talked about for a reason. The setting’s laid-back, the staff friendly and the cocktails, well, they’re superb. Elena Schmitt and Margot Lecarpentier (ex- Experimental Cocktail Club ) know their way round a well-balanced mix, and their new opening, not far from the Parc de Belleville, delivers. The food’s good, too – try the terrine (€8) with gherkins and rustic Thierry Breton bread.

Sister Midnight

5.  Sister Midnight

At this elegant bar in Pigalle (formerly the home of Paris's red light district), owners Jen Riley and Joseph Boyley serve up seriously fresh cocktails in its OTT, panther-like room. At Sister Midnight , you'll find drag shows, live music and more, and likely have a night you'll never forget. La Mano Negra was wrong, Paris by night isn't over at Galle-Pi.

Bar Nouveau

6.  Bar Nouveau

This bar opened in summer 2023, and is already one of the top spots in Paris. The offering from Rémy Savage and his team at Bar Nouveau is already incredibly accomplished, with a beautifully curated cocktail menu of subtle and elegant flavours. Upstairs is giving neo-Art Nouveau in its  décor, while  downstairs is more gloomy and industrial. Both are great, and so are the staff.

Classique

7.  Classique

A pretty apothecary-style bar with a cute tree-lined terrace away from Pigalle, this cocktail bar features retro interiors, period tiles, chiselled glass fittings and luminous green crosses inherited from an old pharmacy. Mysterious amber jars sit in dark wooden cupboards. Behind Classique 's long marble counter, Hugo Combe prepares his magical blends (€12-13). For an aperitif, the drinks are paired with sumptuous small plates, and on Sundays you can grab brunch for €20.

Little Red Door

8.  Little Red Door

Oddly, the red door doesn’t actually open – you go in via the blue one on the left. But that dinky lil’ rectangle has become pretty much emblematic of Parisian cocktail excellence since Little Red Door first appeared on the World’s 50 Best Bars list a few years back. Inside, you’ll find a dim-lit speakeasy with matchless charm – think tin ceilings, insanely comfy chesterfields and midnight-blue velvet armchairs.

Le CopperBay

9.  Le CopperBay

  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Strasbourg-Saint-Denis
  • Recommended

Nautical-themed drinking hole Le CopperBay is a sophisticated and elegant cocktail bar hidden away down the quiet Rue Bouchardon. Against a décor of wood panelling and ropes, experienced cocktail crafters Elfi, Julien and Aurélie serve you up a sailor-friendly rum on the rocks, or something a little more adventurous from their ambitious mixology menu. It’s classy, yet not extortionate by Paris standards: cocktails cost around €10 each and a half-pint of Demory will set you back €7. Oh, and the menu is travel-themed, with drink names like Falouka, De La Bretagne and Coco Lima.

Cravan

10.  Cravan

The 16th isn’t exactly the buzziest part of town when it comes to drinking out. But Cravan alone is reason alone to pop on down for a bev. Classed as a national ’historic monument’, the art nouveau building it’s housed in makes a dramatic backdrop against which to enjoy their speciality inter-war cocktails. The soundtrack’s pleasingly jazzy, and the small plates menu is excellent.

Candelaria

11.  Candelaria

To get to this buzzing spot, you’ll first have to pass through the tiny white taqueria that operates out of the same address. The backroom is where the Marais’s moneyed thirty-somethings come for their margaritas – and all manner of other top-notch cocktails. Don’t miss out.

Castor Club

12.  Castor Club

  • Saint-Michel

The Left Bank may not be known for its nightlife, but perhaps that’s because some of its best haunts are concealed behind featureless façades. That’s true of the très  modish Castor Club, anyway. This dimly lit wood-panelled bar plays a mix of Nashville pop from the ’50s and ’60s, and the cocktail choices are eclectic.

Andy Wahloo

13.  Andy Wahloo

  • 3e arrondissement

For almost 20 years, the Mazouz brothers have been serving as a case study in ‘bars for dummies,’ which should de distributed to all entrepreneurs interested in mixology. Order an exceptional Old Fashioned (or their Mexican version, with mezcal from Oaxaca), and stay till late when a DJ brings the vibes. You'll pay a Parisian price for Andy Wahloo – drinks are around €15 – but it's worth it, in our humble opinion.

Bluebird

14.  Bluebird

There's a seriously chilled-out atmosphere at Bluebird, and it's complimented by a warm colour scheme, copper ceiling and a smoking room surrounded by an aquarium; it feels a bit like a cross between a cosy hotel bar and the back room of a chic Chinese restaurant. Milanese barman Flavio Angiolho rustles up an unforgettable negroni with bitter, red vermouth and thyme liqueur directly imported from Italy. And because one should never drink on an empty stomach, we recommend ordering the very generous club sandwich.

Monsieur Antoine

15.  Monsieur Antoine

  • Saint-Ambroise

With its low-lighting and gloomy front windows, Monsieur Antoine, on a sidestreet off Avenue Parmentier, is hardly eye-catching. But once inside, you're immediately welcomed by its  rock soundtrack, and the sound of the cocktail shaker at work. There's a weekly changing list of ten drinks, with syrups made in-house and fruit juice that's freshly squeezed each morning. We would recommend trying them all, but you might not make it home.

The Cocktail Bars of Paris: A Guide by Arrondissement

The Cocktail Bars of Paris: A Guide by Arrondissement

For generations there was nothing to rival the list of French wines found in the bistros and brasseries of Paris, but since the early 2000s, there’s been a new kid on the block – the cocktail bar. The French have been distilling liqueurs and spirits for centuries but always looked to other countries when it came to intoxicating combinations. The first French guide to mixing drinks in “the American, English, and Italian mode” was published in 1889 by Parisian Emile Lefeuvre . In 1920s Paris, cocktails ran freely when adventuresome American bartenders, unemployed due to Prohibition at home, were eager to share their methods and recipes. But, alas, cocktail culture soon languished with the exception of few stalwarts, Harry’s New York Bar and Bar Hemingway at the Ritz.

Now, everything old is new again. There are hundreds of bars in Paris dedicated to the cocktail. Some pay tribute to the clandestine speakeasy of old. Others are cutting-edge modern. Some focus on. Asian flavors and South American spirits, with a trend toward organic, natural, ingredients. Many mixologists have a hand in making their own infusions and essences on site. It’s pure alchemy.

With the welcome news that bars and restaurant terrasses will be reopening on May 19 as part of the lifting of pandemic restrictions, we’re fêting these great drinking dens with the ultimate guide. Here we drink our way through Paris, sampling stand-outs in each arrondissement. From the wild and woolly to world class, for the well-heeled, hipster, or abstainer, there’s a cocktail bar for everyone in Paris.

1 st Arrondissement

Bar isadora.

60 rue Jean Jacques Rousseau, 75001

Bar Isadora is gorgeous, roaring-20s kind of place, popular with a thirties kind of crowd, many who consider it to be the top cocktail bar in Paris. Bar Isadora is a chic and cheerful destination tucked into the very heart of the city. On the unique drinks list is the Mata Hari , concocted from gin, Chartreuse and Asian pandan syrup, with rich vanilla tones. Featuring an upbeat and well-curated soundtrack, the bar staff at Isadora will soon be ‘spinning’ the classic fine à l’eau into something new by creating a fine oil of coconut, verjus, and home-grown grape syrup to add to premium cognac. Isadora’s small kitchen provides a fresh daily menu; organic and homemade. They are known for their impeccable service.

Jefrey’s cocktail bar.

14 Rue Saint-Sauveur, 75002

A dapper classic cocktail and whiskey bar spread over two intimate floors in the Montorgueil district of Paris, Jefrey’s makes old favorites and astonishing seasonal concoctions. Regular whiskey enthusiasts and English-speaking travelers enjoy the jazz and hip-hop sounds as the evening develops. Jefrey’s “Ink Menu” features 12 cocktails inspired by tattoo artists. If cocktails are your poison then rue Saint-Saveur is the place to be.

The Experimental Cocktail Club

37 rue Saint-Sauveur, 75002

No list of cocktail bars is complete without mentioning The Experimental Cocktail Club. It’s where many young Parisian bartenders have cut their teeth. Innovative, audacious recipes are concocted at this comfortable speak-easy themed bar, considered the home of the rebirth of cocktail culture in Paris. Those bitters you puzzle about in the gourmet shop – these mixologists know what to do with them. This place is an institution.

Le Mary Celeste

1 rue Commines, 75003.

In 2020, Le Mary Celeste was once again shortlisted for the Best International Restaurant Bar by the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation. Mary Celeste is named after a ghost ship found adrift with a hold fully stocked with alcohol – a perfect name for a cocktail and seafood bar. Their invigorating Rise and Shine is crafted from Mescal, licorice liqueur, coffee powder and lemon. The Rain Dog is made from bourbon, Amaro Diesus liqueur, syrup, lemon, Angostura bitters and mint. The interior of Le Mary Celeste is centered around a counter – a hip place for sampling drinks and oysters.

15 Boulevard du Temple, 75003

The eye-catching bar Bisou doesn’t have a menu, but share your preferences with the mixologist behind the marble bar and they’ll make anything that suits your fancy for about €15 a pop. The décor is pretty, pink, fun and flamingoes. The cocktails may be adventurous and high-flying, but Bisou takes a sustainable approach and only works with organic, locally sourced products. All their syrups and juices are made in house, they strive to create zero waste and have long said goodbye to plastic straws. It’s like having a boyfriend who listens to you. The romantic patio at Bisou is dripping with hanging plants and ambience.

Sherry Butt

20 Rue Beautreillis, 75004

Concealed behind a Marais façade, Sherry Butt consists of dark, mirrored rooms and a bar featuring a distinguished selection of world-renowned whiskies. Adherents to the “less is more philosophy,” the two experienced bartenders make most of the limited cocktail menu, which includes a selection of intriguing flavors they make themselves. Using a laboratory device called the Rotovap, they create homemade distillations and extracts like syrup of pine nuts, syrup of champagne and a spirit made from Japanese plums. Sherry Butt is on-trend with carbonations and natural fermentations that rival Kombucha. The Khalassi made of Peruvian Pisco, coconut-cardamom lassi, vanilla syrup, roasted pistachios and dried rose petals sounds fascinating. DJs spin the tunes on the weekends, fine tuning the music to the atmosphere at the time.

5 th Arrondissement

283 Rue Saint-Jacques, 75005

A short walk from the Port-Royal RER station, just south of the Luxembourg Gardens, Solera is a friendly venue worthy of your time. It’s an unforgettable food/drink experience. The bartenders come from a high-end background but get down with creative cocktails. They can make you a personalized cocktail or mocktail in a specialty container. The Masterpiece is a balanced mix of Gin, ginger cordial, crème de pêche , organic tonic, bitter plum and Thai basil. It’s served in a snail-shaped vessel smoked under a cloche of dried verbena. The tasteful, frondy, neo art-deco interior glows blue. The under 40 crowd relaxes to a tipsy French soundtrack.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Tiger Paris (@tigerparis_) on Sep 30, 2020 at 8:12am PDT

13 rue Princesse,  75006

“Welcome to the Jungle of Gin,” Tiger Bar’s website says. Located on a pretty street rife with other bistros, Tiger is the pre-eminent gin bar in Paris. No gin joint of a bygone era, Tiger is an aesthetically pleasing fusion of blond wood and Japanese spa aesthetic where each gin cocktail is a new experience. They have a 100 varieties of gin, so hey, a new gin every week. They have 13 signature gin cocktails. The wait staff really knows their stuff.

7 th Arrondissement

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by GATSBY (@gatsbybarparis) on Dec 19, 2019 at 9:15am PST

64 Avenue Bosquet, 75007

Le Gatsby is a great find. It’s a tiny, crisp place with many 1920s and 30s touches –  club chairs, a smoking room, art deco lamps. Vincent the bartender recreates the Roaring Twenties with cocktails named after ‘20s icons. The Baker – no doubt Josephine – features Vodka, Cointreau, Strawberry puree, egg white and Perrier. The Edith features Hendrick’s Gin, dry Noilly Prat, Suze aperitif and Maraschino liqueur. And The Chaplin is made from two varieties of rum with lemon juice, blueberry puree and chestnut syrup.

8 th Arrondissement

Jacopo/le bar cache.

5 bis Rue Vernet, 75008

Located in the ritzy part of Paris just off the Champs Élysées, Jacopo is a young, cool bistro with an industrial chic décor, with touches of zingy blue and amazing food. But it’s beyond the bank of refrigerators and down cement stairs that customers will find Le Bar Cache, one of Paris’s trendy hidden bars. Rigged up like an American speakeasy with antiques, candelabras and large leather sofas, one can imbibe creations like the Frelon Vert – Grey Goose Vodka, matcha tea, lemon and pineapple juice, Benedictine, and Chartreuse. Or Le Japonais – Bombay Sapphire gin, cucumber juice, Wasabi, lemon juice and homemade ginger cordial. Sounds almost healthy.

9 th Arrondissement

The Lulu White Drinking Club

12 Rue Frochot, 75009

This bar, specializing in absinthe-laced cocktails, takes its name from the New Orleans’ brothel madam Lulu White and Lulu’s a bit of a motif here with images from her 1920s mugshot at every turn. Lulu White’s English-speaking staff and turn-of-the-last century décor of mirrors and mahogany make this bar a world apart from the sometimes insalubrious Pigalle. The select menu offers only nine original cocktails, including the Knock on Wood , made with cognac, Armagnac and absinthe, and the Vaudeville , a giddy blend of rum and tequila with a sugary lemon tang. Then there’s absinthe to sample plus dancing to Jazz, Blues and other New Orleans inspired specialties.

10 th Arrondissement

Gravity Bar

44 Rue des Vinaigriers, 75010

Near Canal Saint-Martin , the bartenders at this small space are adept at shaking up the classics or creating their own cocktails, like Cream Pie , made with Madeira, crème de cacao, crème de menthe and almond-flavored crème fraîche . At Gravity the motif isn’t outer space, but skate park where swooping waves of gravity-defying plywood extend above the space and the half-moon bar.  They’ve got great looking food too. Summertime cocktails have names like Pink Pool, Mr. Greenthumb and Clockwork Soda – created from Rum, Almond, Lime and Mandarin Bergamot Soda. Drinks are listed not by spirit but by sensation.

11th Arrondissement

5 rue Sedain, 75011.

Once you make it past the tempting smells emanating from Da Vita pizzeria, you’ll find Moonshiner, a kind of lush speakeasy accessible through the restaurant’s cold storage door. They stay true to their Prohibition vibe, but no password is required. During Covid they’ve had a cocktail delivery service which in itself seems almost as spurious as a 1920s booze can. The Lover’s Last Sip is comprised of Botanist gin, Lillet Blanc infused with strawberries, Rinquinquin – a peachy aperitif – and basil.

12 th Arrondissement

82 rue de Charenton, 75012

Here the waiters serve you without trousers, but with a shirt and a bow tie and, phew, boxers. Who can help but laugh? The Calbar Qui Rit (the Laughing Calbar) is beverage made from Plantation rum, coconut and pandan water, lemon juice and decorated with silver palettes. If you order a Surprise Me , watch out – one of the bartenders will make you a special creation. Although their dress code is rather ridiculous they have great taste in music and work in a cool industrial chic setting. There are four non-alcoholic choices including The Grasshopper made from mint, white chocolate and cream.

 La Folie en Tete

33 Rue de la Butte aux Cailles, 75013

La Folie en Tête is a small, young-at-heart bar located on a cobblestone hill of Butte aux Cailles. Its relaxed space where the inexpensive cocktails and the kindness of the waiters attract regular customers. There’s a real village feel to this locale. La Folie En Tête has been in place since 1991. The walls of the bar are decked in a variety of musical instruments and the bar highlights World music with samplings of rock and jazz. Some regulars come back to jam – and they have a 6-track CD to prove it. The Caïpi-Fresh – caïpiroska – a typical South American cocktail prepared with fresh fruits: kiwi, strawberry or raspberry is just 6 €. I said it was inexpensive. La Folie en Tête translates to “Madness in the Head.”

Café bohème.

19 Boulevard Edgar Quinet, 75014.

The interior of Café Bohème rivals its patio as a light and airy place evocative of boho teatime and cakes. Cocktails include the Violet Spritz , with violet liqueur, prosecco and ginger ale; the Tulipe , with gin, Aperol, lemon and grapefruit juice or the signature strawberry, raspberry and passion fruit Mojito . The bar offers an array of fresh juices and the alcohol free Arthur , named after Rimbaud. Café Bohème aims to be whimsical, and succeeds in not being overly so. The bar is tastefully festooned with lacy lampshades and dried flowers. With its light-handed palette it stands out from its other neighbors on the boulevard, which largely appears to be patio-central in the shadow of the Tour Montparnasse .

There are many fine restaurants in the quiet 15th arrondissement, Le Cherine, and Le Veraison, par exemple, but the only dedicated cocktail bar of note is Le Zero de Conduite, where the game-playing clientele suck on cocktail smoothies served in baby bottles. If you must, it’s located at located at 102 rue du Theatre. If you want to save yourself from this kind of regression, the district does boast the only cocktail supply shop in Paris, Oogy Wawa, offering a wide selection of bar equipment and cocktail ingredients if you’d rather mix your own drink. If you’re wondering ,Oogy Wawa is “Cheers!” in the Zulu language.

17 rue Jean de la Fontaine, 75016

Named after a part-time boxer and erstwhile poet in post-World War I Paris, Arthur Cravan was wilder than his uncle Oscar Wilde and treated life like performance art. Today the cocktail bar named for Cravan is housed in an Art Nouveau building designed by one of the movement’s paragons – Hector Guimard . Amid a cool palette of old tiles and silvered mirrors, the experienced owners create sleek cocktails behind the zinc bar – reminiscent of the zesty ‘20s – like the French 75 made from gin, absinthe and Champagne or The  Yellow with gin, gentian and yellow chartreuse. Conde Nast Traveler called it one of The Best New Bars in the World.

At Pistache – le petit cocktail , the airy, appealing space is decorated with brass and teal, and an orange tree complements the jungle print motif. There’s a real garden in behind the cocktail bar.  The service is excellent with a friendly welcome. It’s a real neighborhood place.

Le Très Particulier, tucked away in a grove of city trees on the slopes of Montmartre, is a sumptuous lounge and solarium, part of the hotel complex of the same name. In this ivy-draped space, Le Très Particulier’s head bartender Valentin Vignolles will expertly create something special for the curious, younger crowd, as well as their affluent guests. Ingredients include natural, homemade concoctions – infusions, syrups and perfumed sugars. Their eponymous house cocktail is created from gin, elderflower cordial, tonic, and lemon verbena. The rest of the drinks on the menu are inspired by film titles. The West Egg will set you back €18. The Honey Bunny and Pineapple Express are non-alcoholic drinks that also reflect contemporary movies. Surrounding a stone-clad house, the terraces at La Pavillon Puebla are set under shady chestnuts where garlands of lights twinkle after twilight over the dance floor. The eclectic décor features boho benches and cushions, velvet couches, along with wrought iron bistro tables. The Blondin cocktail walks the tightrope of Mezcal, Pimms, spice syrup, lemon juice and hellfire bitters. There’s the classic Dark and Stormy and the contrasting mocktail, the Clear and Sunny . The Pavillon is very casual and very pretty.

No camo and macho posturing at Combat; instead you’ll find the creative cocktail project of three female friends, apprenticed at the famed Experimental Cocktail Club. Combat is bright, modern and subtly decorated. Mustard-colored tiles frame a long shelf displaying Combat’s range of spirits. The stainless steel bar resembles a laboratory dedicated to mixology. Currently, Combat’s signature recipe is the savory, smoky Quatresse made with sage, Suze aperitif, simple syrup, lemon, and the peaty Laphroaig Scotch whisky. They also specialize in aperitif cocktails; typically something dry and a little bitter. The bar is located in what was once the Quartier du Combat, an area where wild animals were once baited to fight. It’s also a nod to the fight the three young owners had to put up to open the bar.

La Commune is a punch club where many of their house concoctions are beautifully presented to your table in classic punch bowls, where individual cups are filled with alcoholic elixirs, made from the likes of vodka, juice, green tea, cucumber syrup and Kaffir lime. Individual drinks like The Bramble combine gin with lemon juice and blackberry crème. The floor to ceiling windows, curtains of greenery and fairy lights give La Commune the feel of a perennial patio. The club also offers history and art talks and tours.

Whether you’re looking for fun things to do in Paris at night with friends or a fun date night with your loved one, these Paris cocktail bars will not disappoint.

1. Moonshiner

Moonshiner is one of the best cocktail bars in Paris.

Behind a large refrigerator door tucked at the rear of a pizzeria lies Moonshiner , the speakeasy-style cocktail bar serving up creative cocktails that are everything but average.

A hefty dose of nostalgia will hit you when you step into this 1920s-themed bar decorated with quirky drinking vessels, old books, and dim lighting to fit the prohibition era when alcohol was illegal.

The retro jazz music in the background sets the tone for an evening of well-made complex cocktails with no shortcuts on quality.

There is also a selection of house cocktails and beers to choose from. Try their Smokey Island, the spicy beer if you want to try something new, or their Hossegor which has the right amounts of sweet and sour.

Visit the smoking room, and you will find a locked safe. If you can guess the lock, you win a gift.

So, if you’re looking for speakeasy bars in Paris, Moonshiner is one not to miss.

The 24 Best Bars in Paris

The 24 Best Bars in Paris According to a Local

Gone are the days when  un verre du vin at a local cave or a dry-gin martini at your hotel bar were the only options for a boozy night out in Paris. Thanks to game changers like Experimental Cocktail Club —which generated an impressive group of talented mixologists, many of whom went on to open their own bars here—there's now no shortage of spots to sip inventive drinks in Paris. Whether they're sneakily hidden behind a washing machine or announced upon the grand marble walls of an 18th-century palace, the places on this list offer a tipple for all types of imbibing travelers. Read on for our list of the best bars in Paris to uncover on your next trip.

Coper Bay Paris Bar

CopperBay Arrow

The marine-inspired decor makes this unpretentious spot feel like vacation: shades of blue and green, ropes draped from the ceiling (in between the requisite Edison bulbs), and wooden ores hung as wall art. The menu, which changes seasonally, comes in two forms: handwritten in script on a giant paper scroll behind the bar and via a deck of cards that explain the components of each cocktail via a hefty description and a colorful pie chart. While they can make anything you want, specialities are worth trying like the Petit Artichaut made with a nut butter-infused whisky, bitters, Pedro Ximenez sherry, and Guinness. They also do a selection of beers (from local Parisian brewery Demory), ciders from Appie, and natural white or red wine by the glass or bottle.

Tiger Arrow

Fittingly, Tiger is covered in hanging and potted plants, palm-leaf wallpaper, and green mosaic tiles. Decor aside, this place is all about gin. The menu is loaded with 130 different varieties to choose from including Tanqueray and Forest Dry. You can go simple with house-made tonic, or mixed and garnished with a candied orange or twig of lavender. There are options a plenty like the ‘Last Call’ with a dash of absinthe, pineapple juice, and cinnamon.

Lavomatic Bar Paris

Lavomatic Arrow

Coins and fabric softener are not needed to enter this bar, hidden behind what appear to be working washing machines and dryers. Just find the right door disguised as a washer (straight opposite the entrance), open it, and head up the narrow wooden staircase. Soon enough, you'll find yourself in a super modern, fluorescent-lit space with a few Brillo pad poufs to sit and sip on. The cocktail menu offers an array of eclectic mashups—some of which are signatures, some of which are seasonal or timely. You can also order natural wine or beer like La Marise from Belgium.

Candelaria Bar Paris

Candelaria Arrow

Since opening in 2011, Candelaria has catapulted to the top of many "Best" lists including a five-year streak on the World's 50 Best Bars list. While the bar staff has seen some turnover since its opening, the drinks themselves have never faltered and the team is often changing things up by playing with thematic ingredients like avocado and Mezcal. In fact, they stock a large selection of the smokey agave spirit and have a 16-page booklet, organized by taste (“bitter,” “earthy,” “funky,” etc.), devoted to the stuff. The regular cocktail carte changes every two months and recent concoctions included the “AWOL” made with gin, basil and fennel and the “Golden Chakra” featuring mezcal, chai and coconut.

Les Ambassadeurs Arrow

Located within the remodeled  Hôtel de Crillon , a certified palace dating back to the late 18th century, this high-class cocktail joint was created with the intention of drawing in fashionable Parisians, and, as the name implies, ambassadors and other dignitaries. Most of the room’s original fixtures remain intact: the soaring slabs of marble walls, the fresco-painted ceiling, the gilded moldings, and the pane-glass windows draped with curtains that face Place de la Concorde. But the furniture and overall ambiance was given a contemporary facelift thanks to designer Chahan Minassian when the hotel reopened in 2017. He added a bit of rock n’ roll to four original chandeliers by draping them with metal chains and the central horseshoe-shaped bar is the perfect stage for the uniformed barmen who occasionally go all Tom Cruise performing tricks of the trade. Generally, there’s ambient music overhead, but in the evenings there’s live music—either from the grand piano, a singing duo, or even Mike D of the Beastie Boys who spun a late-night DJ set.

cocktail tour in paris

Cambridge Public House Arrow

No you’re not in London , but yes this is most definitely a British-inspired watering hole. Denoted as such by the three co-founders, who met and worked in the Big Smoke, this pub in the Marais is always popping. You may have to speak an octave higher than normal over the Tears for Fears blasting from the speakers to hear whomever you’re chatting with. While you can book one of the tables or plush velvet banquettes, there’s a room-for-everyone vibe at the living room-esque space (complete with a Chesterfield couch) where the distinguished color scheme includes forest greens and woodsy browns and the deco includes 18th century oil paintings of hounds. The cocktails change regularly, and there’s always a weekly special such as the recent Trance Dance featuring apple, cinnamon, gingerbread, and rum. Menus are in English, and each drink is listed with three easy adjectives to help describe them such as “velvety, earthy, fresh” for the signature Cigarette After Sex, which has been on the menu since the bar opened in 2019.

Maison Proust Arrow

As you walk into this 23-room boutique hotel—newly-opened in January 2023—you’ll struggle to choose a seat not because it’s crowded, but because there are so many exquisite options. As the third member of the Collection Maison Particuliers group, with locations in Pigalle (Maison Souquet) and near the Opéra Garnier (Maison Athénée), this new Marais Maison is devoted to French novelist Marcel Proust, and the Belle Epoque period he and his creative contemporaries lived in. There are three sultry salons to choose from for enjoying a beverage or a bite—each more austere and lush than the last: the Jardin d’Hiver (or winter garden) with plush arm chairs along the windows and facing the street; the bar area's onyx tables, crystal chandeliers, and giant gilded mirrors; and the library rotunda with hundreds of books, a golden ceiling that twinkles, and a cozy hidden nook for private rendezvous. Drink pricing is indicative that you’re somewhere exceptional (the ingredients used include caviar powder, for example) but your euros will go along way. And even if you’re just having a Perrier, sit and you’ll receive a small bowl of peanuts covered in a wasabi shell so good they’re destined to disappear in seconds.

Bar Hemingway Ritz Hotel Paris

Bar Hemingway Arrow

Despite having received a facelift after a multi-million dollar renovation, the place known for being liberated from the Nazis by author Ernest Hemingway, retains its old-world charm with tufted leather banquettes and bar stools. Another thing that thankfully, hasn't changed: legendary head barman Colin Field. The bon vivant, decked out in a white dinner jacket (complete with his name embroidered on the pocket), gleefully places your drinks, each with its own scented red or pink rose, before you while looking deep into your eyes (and seemingly your soul). Despite having created the menu—which is full of twists-on-classics such as the Clean Dirty Martini, served with a frozen cube of olive juice, and the Ritz Pimms with, of course, many secret ingredients in addition to ginger ale, Champagne, and garnishes of fruit, cucumber, fresh mint and griottine cherries—he’d much rather just choose for you. And once under his Sir-Mix-A lot spell you’ll likely just say OK.

Cravan Arrow

There's no wine or beer here, so prepare to be spoiled for choice in the cocktail department—whether you opt for a “signature” or a “classique.” The drink names themselves may sound simple—the Yellow or the Jungle—but they’re complex and clearly crafted with care. The latter, for example, is a take on a martini with the addition of sherry, while each of the three Royal drinks—Angélique, Basilic, and Shiso—are versions of the traditional Kir, but using house-made infusions to help enhance the flavor of the champagne. This is a real destination spot for people who appreciate the art of cocktail crafting, and for those who yearn for a taste of today while reveling in the atmosphere of yesterday. Since they open on the early side, with a strong focus on apéro cocktails, it’s a great place to come with friends or a date before heading out elsewhere—or if you’ve had a long day and want to relax with a tipple and a small bite before calling it an (early) night.

Gravity Bar Paris

Gravity Bar Arrow

True to its name, you'll feel as if you bolted into outer space upon walking into this spot near Canal Saint-Martin. The bar itself is your space-ship, with concrete counters and curved slats of plywood that extend over the space via the ceiling. They like to shake things up here—both with classics (previously, they've infused their spritz with OJ) or their own creations (on a recent visit, we had the Cream Paie, made with Madera, crème de cacao, and almond-flavored crème fraîche). But while they've got around a dozen quirky cocktails to keep you sated, their wine and beer selection is top-notch, too.

cocktail tour in paris

Fréquence Arrow

Because of its fairly nondescript facade, you’re coming to this bar if someone serious about cocktails and music tipped you off. It's run by former barmen who worked at two of the city's first serious cocktail joints: Sherry Butt and Andy Wahloo. Thankfully, they do offer a menu in English, because even those with a working knowledge of French may be confused by the descriptions: They’re doing interesting things, like combining pickled grapes with sake and rum, or a pineapple and lime flower vinegar with gin and Campari. Beyond their own creations (both alcoholic and non-), the menu here also offers sake, natural sparkling wines, and canned craft beer from Japan to Denmark. This is also a whiskey-drinkers joint, and for those who don't beware the brown the menu is organized by profile taste from peated (a 12-year Speyside single malt from Benriach) to spicy/salty (a 29-year single grain from North British).

Bar Sur Le Toit Arrow

Ride up, up, up and suddenly Sacré Coeur hits you at eye level, from just blocks away. Continue turning, mouth agape, and you’ll see nearly all of the city’s famous monuments—Notre Dame to the south, the Arc de Triomphe to the west, and the city’s iconic rooftops, with their rust-colored chimneys and zinc paneling in between. While it’s not the most spacious floor plan (and this place doesn’t do standing-room-only), if you’re lucky enough to snag a seat you’ll be rewarded with a panorama almost too beautiful in-person to post on Instagram. (Almost.) Whether you want a coupe of Veuve Cliquot, a simple draft Peroni, or an inspired cocktail such as the Simple Comme Bonjour with vodka, absinthe, apricot, and thyme, there’s something for everyone. The specialty drinks change seasonally, and the minimalist wine-by-the-bottle list features both French and Italian options—marked way up, because you’re on top of the world.

Chaumont Bar Arrow

There's an unpretentious elegance to this space, located inside the  Hotel Bachaumont just off the pedestrian thoroughfare of rue Montorgueil in the 2nd arrondissement. The long bar, cozy vibes, and light background music make it ideal for a date, solo drink with a book, or, if you can grab one of the few tables, a friendly group-hang. The menu is inventive and intriguing with cocktails like the Nuit Blanche made with three types of rum, chai tea, spices, fruits, and coconut water served in a mountain of bubbles atop the glass.

cocktail tour in paris

Abricot Arrow

This is serious cocktail territory, but with a side of sass. Meaning, some real thought has gone into the mixology (think bourbon paired with pomegranate shrub or aged rum with cardamom and clove), but a lot of fun was had coming up with the names and descriptions from the “boozy and balanced” Blanche Devereaux for Golden Girls fans, to the “frothy and tropical” Lac Titicaca for South American dreamers. What’s more, each cocktail is served on a rectangular, hand-sewn coaster along with a glass of water, and a welcome seasonal shot in a teeny-tiny cordial glasses. It's the newest opening on this list, with a debut date of February 2023; despite Abricot being young, it makes our list for the pedigree alone. And maybe also its cute, emoji-inspired logo and fun decor details—like disco-ball planters.

Bisou Arrow

There's no menu at this small bar off the boulevard in the Haute Marais. It's all about what you like—and what the bartender feels like making. You discuss your liquor and flavors of choice with whomever's shaking things up, and voilà! A mysterious cocktail will appear. Considering its small size and romantic vibe, it's best for a date or a small group of friends. There's a definite "let us impress you" vibe here—but not at all in a boastful, intimidating way. The bar staff are friendly and having as much fun as (they hope) you're having. It's also quite remarkable to see how they come up with concoctions off the top of their head—and remember who "ordered" what. They are definitely on top of their game.

Moonshiner bar paris

Moonshiner Arrow

Your first thought will be, "Am I in the right place?" and "Can I order a slice or do I have to get a whole pie?" The bar's located behind an operating small pizza parlor. The dark and moody Moonshiner is all speakeasy, complete with Art Deco furnishings like etched mirrors and old record players. The place skews younger (20s and 30s), a mix of local Parisians, expats and tourists. Most are serious about their booze though. The menu features a few classic cocktails, like an Old Fashioned, but the majority of the suggestions come with fun names, featuring a mix of interesting syrups and liqueurs; on a recent visit, we saw names like "Money Time" and "Back to Basil."

Harry's New York Bar Arrow

The red leather booths and wooden bar at Harry's Bar New York date back to the early 20th century. Hemingway and Sartre drank here; George Gershwin composed "An American in Paris" on the piano upstairs—the history and connection to the U.S. makes this bar an institution for both expats and visitors. The menu consists of classics like the Side Car, Dry Martini, Stinger, and, of course, the Bloody Mary (ordered any time of the day, not just brunch!).

Le Mary Celeste Bar Paris

Le Mary Celeste Arrow

Since opening in the haute Marais in 2013, it’s become a real neighborhood hotspot for both locals and visitors who come as much for the food as they do the cocktails and wine. Since the place is the third opening from the Quixotic team behind Candelaria, it’s no surprise that the drinks here are inspired and come with clever names like the “Rain Dog” (bourbon, lemon, mint) or the “Hufflepuff” (Beefeater, pimento, vermouth, lemon and tonic). Since the place comes from the Quixotic Team behind Candelaria, it’s no surprise that the cocktails here are inspired. But beyond the craft concoctions of the liquor variety, they offer an impressive wine list featuring small, independent (mostly French) winemarkers some of whom show up for occasional “meet the maker” events, which, of course, include tastings.

Danico Bar Paris

Danico Arrow

Nico de Soto is something of a cocktail legend: After getting his start with the Experimental Cocktail Group (and winning various awards, including Most Influential Bartender at Paris's Cocktail & Spirits show in 2014), he opened his own joint in New York, called Mace. Danico is his first piloted project back on his home turf and it's a definite winner. His newly-launched menu format, which will change every six months, is travel-minded and will reflect a specific region of the world. First up? Indonesia, with cocktails such as the "Mad Dog" featuring mezcal, Kaffir lime, and pink guava juice, and the "Beji Griya," named after a Balinese temple and waterfall, with curry leaf-infused vodka.

Experimental Cocktail Club Arrow

When it opened in 2007, Experimental Cocktail Club (ECC, for short) became the benchmark for all other Parisian cocktail bars that followed. Today, its reputation precedes it and the place remains packed night-after-night with a mature mix of Parisians and tourists. The whole point of this place is to serve cocktails you've never had before. (Get it? Experimental?) The 12 suggestions might include ingredients like cordial de fleurs de sureau (elderberry liquor) and an oeuf entier (a whole egg). But the bartenders and servers are happy to help you navigate the options and will gladly make suggestions based on what you like (and what you don't). While they tend to switch up the selection every six months, you're bound to find a winner.

Combat Arrow

Considering its location is a bit beyond the center, this is a great destination for seeing “the real Paris.” Start (or end) the night here with a friend or a date before or after popping over to any number of the neighborhood’s popular restaurants. Margot Lecarpentier—Paris’s “most influential bartender” as dubbed by the World’s Best Bar list in 2020—calls Combat, her first bar baby, a "cocktail bistro.” While it’s definitely not your typical swanky speakeasy, it’s not a total dive either; it’s somewhere in between, a real neighborhood gem beyond the saturated tourist sites. (Though, you actually can see the tip of the Tower from the top of busy rue de Belleville.) You’d be forgiven for walking right past the bar’s black and white exterior since it blends seamlessly into the block’s gritty and eclectic mix of businesses from dim sum spots to organic épiceries. Considering Lecarpentier’s pedigree, you can bet the drinks here are going to be smartly crafted and super tasty: Simple, pack-a-punch options Zouzou and Nirvana are bound to tempt anyone with a penchant for unique spirits such as eau de vie (aquavit) and cachaça. Anyone from New York in the early aughts will also appreciate the addition of pickleback shots, as well as cocktail-and-snack pairings for a reasonable $16.

Little Red Door Paris Bar

Little Red Door Arrow

pened by Experimental Cocktail Club protégée Timothée Prangé and Dotan Shalev, the drinks here are beyond clever and well thought-out. The menu itself is an actual work of art with each of the 14 cocktails getting a two-page illustrative treatment by a local artist. Only the drink’s name is listed, though, as they encourage cocktail aficionados to be brave and guess the ingredients upon the first taste. (But for those who don’t want to risk it, there is a card that pulls out revealing what’s inside.) They update the menu about twice a year and drinks are served in all sorts of vessels from vintage glassware to quirky porcelain bust mugs.

Le Syndicat Bar Paris

Le Syndicat Arrow

The outside of this bar is so nondescript—with graffiti and posters covering the doors, which are devoid of any signage—you may walk right past it. But once inside you'll feel as if you've entered a recording studio circa 1977. There's an unfinished, raw feeling—from exposed sheetrock on the walls to the sound proofing on the ceiling to the gold curtains sectioning the small space. The focus is on drinks made exclusively from French spirits and liqueurs. Case in point: on one visit, the bar was serving "Drop the Beet," made with Normandy Calvados, beet purée, honey syrup, and fresh lemon juice (it's super beet-y and practically a meal in itself!) and the "Saix en Provence" made with brandy from Armagnac, spicy watermelon syrup, and lavender essence.

cocktail tour in paris

Le Très Particulier Arrow

Post up at the bar inside the Hotel Particulier, a former mansion in hilly Montmartre dating back to the 19th century, and you’ll immediately feel as if you’ve entered a sacred space. Whether sitting outside or under the glass atrium surrounded by lush vegetation, or inside in the paisley carpeted dark rooms decorated with red velvet chairs and woodsy-patterned wallpaper, having a cocktail here is straight out of an adults-only fairytale. The drinks are made with house-made syrups like salty plum wine, infusions such as tonka bean rum, and fresh grown ingredients from the garden including herbs and honey made by the dashing young proprietor, Oscar Comtet, himself. Many of them are named after literary or films classic films; on one visit, the menu featured the Laura Palmer, made with the aperitif Americano Cocchi, lime juice, sugar syrup, and fresh sage.

What To Know Before You Go to a Paris Cocktail Bar

Curious about the craft cocktail scene in the City of Light? Here’s a bit of local insight for enjoying an evening arrosé .

How much do cocktails cost in Paris?

Expect to spend 8-16€ for a drink at a typical cocktail bar in Paris. Prices do vary beaucoup from one bar to the next though, with some student-friendly spots offering 5-7€ cocktails during happy hours while drinks at upscale, iconic spots like the Hemingway Bar in the Ritz Paris go for 30€.

Where are the best cocktail bars in Paris?

Le Marais and the 10th Arrondissement  have the highest concentration of top cocktail bars in Paris. The upper Marais has traditionally been the hotspot for hip hangouts, but more recently the 10th Arrondissement has become the place-to-be for trendy cocktail lovers in the city.

Where can you have a quiet drink in Paris?

If you’re looking for a more intimate atmosphere to take your significant other or for a first date, the trendy cocktail bars may not be your best option: they can sometimes be crowded and a bit too noisy. You’re better off going to the quieter cocktail bars of upscale hotels with a calmer crowd, like the bar of The Ritz, the Hôtel Costes, the Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers , the Hôtel des Grands Boulevards, or the Hotel Bachaumont .

The Coolest Coffee Shops in Paris

Oui, those charming Parisian cafés serve coffee, but sometimes you’re in the mood for a cozy, quiet spot to sip a Flat White rather than a bustling street corner café serving tight shots of espresso. These are our picks for the best coffee shops in Paris.

Taylor Swift parties with Travis Kelce, Mahomes couple in Vegas as she feels ‘sad’ about going back on tour: reports

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

It’s party time!

Taylor Swift reportedly partied with boyfriend Travis Kelce and friends Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes in Las Vegas less than two weeks before she’s set to go back on her Eras Tour.

The foursome recently hit up Easy’s Cocktail Lounge   inside the Aria Resort & Casino for a night of drinking and fun, according to TMZ .

The celeb hotspot is reportedly “secluded” and “tucked away” inside the Proper Eats Food Hall in the hotel, making it hard for fans to spot the famous group.

Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, Brittany Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes at a party.

The outlet does not yet have pictures of Swift hanging out with Kelce and pals Brittany and Patrick, both 28, in Sin City, and reps for the stars did not immediately return our requests for comment.

Since Swift has been having the time of her life with her boyfriend and friends, she is reportedly feeling torn about returning to the international leg of her Eras Tour after spending so much time with Kelce.

A source told Us Weekly Friday that the “Bad Blood” singer and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, both 34, have “deepened their bond” during “all the time they’ve spent together recently.”

“It makes the prospect of her tour more challenging. She’ll be sad,” the insider claimed.

Swift’s tour is set to resume May 9 in Paris.

However, the couple, who went public last September, both understand that work is their top priority.

“They support and respect [each other],” Us Weekly’s source also said.

“They have busy careers, so they understand those commitments, as difficult as it is.”

Since Swift’s last international show in Singapore in March, she and Kelce have been spotted on several outings together.

Last month, the couple was seen on a romantic vacation in the Bahamas .

Swift, who wore a yellow-and-white striped bikini  by Montce ( top  $143,  bottom  $94) and black sunglasses during the getaway, kissed her beau at the time, as they frolicked together in the clear blue water.

Then, two weeks ago, the pair attended Coachella to catch Swift’s pals Ice Spice and Jack Antonoff perform.

At one point, Kelce protectively wrapped his arms around his girlfriend as they danced in the crowd.

Although the “Cruel Summer” songstress will be back on the road soon, Kelce — who is currently in his offseason from the NFL — shared that he will be traveling to Europe to support Swift at a few of her shows.

“Oh, you know I gotta go support,” he told “Entertainment Tonight” earlier this month when asked if he would be “packing [his] bags” soon.

The “Catching Kelce” alum also told the outlet that he is more than happy to be there for Swift like she was there for him during the most recent NFL season.

“We are both very career-driven,” Kelce added.

“I think we both love what we do and any chance that I can show my support to her — knowing that she has shown me all the support in the world throughout the season — it’s just been an amazing experience getting to know Tay.”
