Cruisewear for men: What guys should pack for a cruise

Mature man using laptop on ship deck

Perhaps one of the most understated joys of cruising is that you only have to unpack once. The challenge lies in what to pack in the first place. While some may say that guys have it easier than women, choosing the right cruisewear for men can be just as tricky.

No matter the destination, men will need certain clothing essentials for a cruise that they might not need for other vacations. This can range from attire for formal or themed nights to the right outfits for a range of activities in port.

If you're wondering exactly what you need to wear on a cruise — or need to assist your husband, father, son, partner or male friend — we've got you covered with helpful specifics on the perfect cruisewear for men. Read on to discover what guys should pack for their next cruise.

What should men wear during the day on a cruise?

boat cruise outfit male

Most cruises are casual getaways during the day. Pack and dress for the kind of activities you'll enjoy on board, whether it's lounging at the pool (a rash guard, swim trunks, flip-flops and a hat), sweating it out in the gym (athleticwear and sneakers) or hanging out with a book or card game in a lounge (shorts or jeans and a comfortable top).

Daytime dress can be a bit more elevated on Europe cruises, as well as ships with older or wealthier clientele. This more refined style can best be described as resort casual, where you'll find mostly polos and collared shirts during the day. Linen or khaki pants or Bermuda shorts complete the look.

Don't forget to pack appropriate clothing for activities in port. You'll want to dress in layers, bring a hat for sun protection, a jacket or vest for cool mornings or windy afternoons, and wear sturdy shoes for hikes or sneakers for exploring a town. Tote around beach flip-flops for a quick change if you're mixing up beach time with excursions that require more walking.

What's acceptable attire for men for dinner on casual evenings?

Across all cruise lines, table service dinners will always feel more elevated, often the only time of day when a dress code is clearly communicated. That said, casual evenings have become more casual, especially on the big-ship lines – which can be a relief to men who don't want to schlep their workweek suits on vacation with them.

As a general guideline, if you're at a table service restaurant for dinner (whether it be the main dining room or a specialty restaurant on board), men should dress in a collared shirt and long pants. Jeans tend to be acceptable on casual evenings, as long as they're not riddled with holes, and on some lines, like always-relaxed Norwegian Cruise Line, a nice T-shirt is fine. (A fitted T-shirt with a jacket over it is never a problem.)

What you can't wear, according to the dinner dress code on most lines, are bathing suits, cutoff jeans, sleeveless shirts and baseball hats.

Shorts are an ambiguous, often frowned upon, option for evening attire. Most dress codes won't specifically prohibit shorts, leaving it up to the individual. A pair of chino, pleated or linen shorts can suffice for a more refined look, especially when paired with a collared shirt. Cutoffs, denim, cargo shorts and sports shorts at any seated, table service dinner are a no-go.

As for shoes, sneakers can be permissible on nonformal nights, but footwear like beach flip-flops are often prohibited.

While teens should emulate the grown-ups for dinnerwear, most cruise lines don't fuss about the dress code for younger boys. If you can't get your kid into a polo shirt and khakis, a clean shirt and nonathletic shorts will suffice.

If you'd rather spend your evening in gym shorts and flip-flops, the buffet and other fast casual or counter-service venues will have more relaxed dress codes at night. Or, you can order room service and enjoy dinner in your bathrobe.

Are formal nights still a thing? Will I need to bring a tuxedo?

boat cruise outfit male

Most major cruise lines hold formal nights, usually twice on a weeklong sailing. These days, the theme is more "dress your best" or "elegant" than strictly formal. Even on big-ship cruise lines, guests find it fun to don a more upscale look, pose for a professional photo shoot and enjoy dinner, drinks and perhaps a show in style.

Formal nights on most lines don't mean black tie. On casual lines, such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean, men can get away with a button-down, long-sleeve shirt, khakis, nice shoes and no tie. On more upscale lines, guys should pack a suit or at least a sports coat and slacks. Ties are usually optional.

When in doubt, pack a jacket you can always take off if no one else is wearing one.

Some cruise lines, however, skew a bit fancier. Cunard features black-tie galas on its sailings that are often themed (think Roaring '20s and Masquerade Ball). P&O Cruises typically has signature black-tie evenings, and many smaller luxury lines (including Silversea, Seabourn and Regent) will host black-tie evenings throughout extended sailings.

While full tuxedo regalia on black-tie evenings is encouraged (satin lapel, pocket trim, satin side stripe down the leg of the trousers), a dark suit and necktie pass muster.

Also, culturally appropriate formal attire is always an option, such as Scottish kilt suits or military dress uniforms.

If you're traveling with family, boys and teenagers are required to dress in accordance with the guidelines for dining at table service restaurants on formal nights as well, but the stakes are lower. The minimum requirement for kids is nice slacks and a collared shirt. Teens should opt for dress shoes, but younger boys can get away with sneakers.

If you're taking family photos, tuxedos, suits, blazers and ties are not required but add flare and personality to a look. Get creative with kids who prefer comfort; put babies in a tuxedo-print onesie and young boys in an adorable sweater vest on formal evenings.

On some lines, such as Norwegian Cruise Line , elegant night is always optional.

Do guys need to dress up on theme nights?

Many cruise lines will have themed evenings or parties where you might want to dress the part. If you're attending a themed cruise (such as a gay cruise or music cruise ), be prepared for costume parties on multiple nights.

Popular theme nights are wide-ranging, though the most recurring are tropical parties (Hawaiian shirts encouraged), '80s nights and white nights (all-white attire).

Disney Cruise Line passengers regularly dress up for its hallmark Pirate Night. Virgin Voyages ' Scarlet Night encourages guests to don red attire.

Themed attire on theme nights is not required for dining and is opt-in fun. If you're traveling with a group, organizing matching costumes or outfits can enhance the fun and make for great vacation photos. Check with your cruise line about which theme nights you should expect.

What are the best cruise clothing and accessories for men?

boat cruise outfit male

Need to add a few new pieces to your wardrobe before your cruise vacation? Here are our picks of cruisewear staples for men.

A classic Hawaiian shirt

If you're sailing on a tropical itinerary, you're going to want to make sure you pack at least one Hawaiian floral shirt. The Columbia Men's Tamiami Short-sleeve Shirt is a top choice, with SPF 40 sun protection and nice ventilation.

A shirt for hot days in port

At sea, you've got the benefit of the ocean breezes, but tropical ports can get sweltering hot, especially in the summer months. Opt for the Vineyard Vines Men's Destin Stripe Sankaty Performance Polo for its moisture-wicking and quick-drying fabric, along with its SPF 30 sun protection.

A pair of travel pants

The best pair of travel pants balance comfort and function and are acceptable on board and in port. The 33,000ft Men's Waterproof Pants are surprisingly comfortable, breathable and have a nice flexible give to them. They also feature a commendable 10,000mm waterproof rating, great for coverage if you get stuck exploring in the rain.

A pair of sandals for most occasions

From the pool deck to the streets of a port, the right pair of sandals signify vacation. The sophisticated yet practical Ecco Men's Flowt Luxe Slide Sandals are an ideal match for days spent walking, yet have an elegant design that can fit well into a smart, casual dinner on board. If the dinner dress code has a strict no-sandals policy, the Cole Haan Men's 2.Zerogrand Penny Loafers are a great nautical alternative.

The ideal layer for windy nights on deck

When you're out at sea it can get windy, especially at night. Pack The North Face Men's Cyclone Windbreaker Jacket , which features a compact, lightweight and durable design. The jacket is windproof, water-repellent and has UPF 40+.

Water shoes to protect your feet

If you're planning for any water-based adventures on your cruise, a high-quality pair of water shoes will help protect your feet. Merrell Men's Wildwood Aerosport Water Shoes are light, comfortable and breathable. They also offer great traction on slippery rocks, shell-ridden beaches and the ship's decks.

The best men's cruise travel accessories

  • Accessory storage: Keep your neckties crisp with this sturdy case for storage and travel. Or, fit all your formal night accouterments in this men's accessories storage and travel case .
  • A compact on-the-go bag: The Bellroy Mini Sling Bag is great for roving both the ship and port with enough room to store your cellphone, ship pass and a few essentials such as lip balm, sunscreen and hand sanitizer.
  • Shoe maintenance: These quality shoe bags keep your street and deck-worn shoes separate from your clothes. SneakErasers are a great travel accessory to buff out any scuff marks you may pick up on your journey.
  • Staying hydrated: A reusable water bottle is essential on a cruise, especially while in port. The Hydro Flask water bottle is a favorite for its durable design and temperature retention. Cruise lines allow reusable bottles, though they must be empty when boarding.
  • Express yourself: Stretch beyond your normal style — you're on a ship! Cruise life gives you the freedom to add some character and flair to your look, so pack some fun accessories like these nautical cuff links , colorful lapel pins or a flashy hat .

Bottom line

It's not "anything goes," but you'll find more flexibility than ever when it comes to cruise line dress codes. When in doubt, it's better to be overdressed than underdressed, especially when arriving for a seated dinner. Better to pack the tie and jacket and ditch them if no one else is wearing them than to risk awkward conversations with the crew or side-eye from other diners if you're not in compliance with the attire policy.

And if casual is the only way you wish to dress on vacation, know you can always go to the buffet or order room service, and you won't go hungry for want of khakis and a button-down shirt.

Caribbean Cruise Outfits For Men & Detailed Packing List

' src=

This men’s cruise packing guide includes ideas for cruise outfits for men that will help guide you in what to pack and wear on your trip.

Packing for a cruise can be such a struggle. On cruises, you will easily wear three outfits a day which makes choosing what to bring even more difficult.

As I mentioned, it’s easy to wear three outfits each day on a cruise. On a typical port day, I’ll wear a casual outfit for exploring, swimwear for the pool, then a nicer outfit for dinner. The trick is packing items that you can wear for multiple occasions.

As a women, I always pack my own bag for a cruise vacation, but end up helping my boyfriend pack as well. After taking 5 cruises together, I have cruise wear for men down to a science.

Keep reading for this simple guide to cruise outfits for men to learn what to wear when and other packing tips. Learn the best mens cruise outfits for every cruising occasion from the pool to formal dining room.

Packing for a Cruise

Before you decide what to pack, let’s talk about how to pack it. I recommend bringing one checked luggage per person and one backpack carry on.

When you arrive at the embarkation terminal, you will pass off your checked luggage to be delivered directly to your stateroom. From when you board the ship until staterooms are open (usually a few hours), you will only have access to what’s in your carry on.

I recommend keeping the following items in your carry on, then packing the rest in your suitcase.

  • Wallet/Passport/Documents
  • Simple Outfit for Dinner (in case your luggage isn’t delivered in time)

Throughout this guide you will notice some items are included in multiple collages. This is intentional to show that versatile items can be worn throughout the day by pairing them with different clothes.

For example, you can wear a button down shirt to dinner with khakis and loafers then around port with shorts and sandals. Packing versatile clothing items is the best way to fit all you cruise clothing items in one checked bag.

Port Day Outfits for Men

boat cruise outfit male

During the day in port, you will likely be doing any of the following three activities: exploring the local town, sightseeing the port, or spending time at the beach. For either of the first two, focus on comfortable footwear for walking and a casual, but nice looking outfit.

For a beach day or water excursion, I love these swim trunks because they look like shorts. Throw on a shirt and you can walk around port or town before visiting the beach.

Cruise Pool Fashion for Men

For the pool, don’t overthink it! Bring at least two swimsuits so you can always have a dry one. A good, comfortable pair of sandals can be worn to the pool and port. Finally, don’t forget sunglasses and a hat to protect yourself from the intense Caribbean sun.

Dinner Outfit Ideas for a Cruise

boat cruise outfit male

On a cruise, there will be formal nights and casual nights. Royal Caribbean and other cruise lines will outline the attire for dinner each night in your cruise compass. For a typical 7-night cruise, there are typically two formal nights and five casual nights.

On a casual night, a wide variety of outfits are appropriate. Some clothing items to avoid are tank tops, swimwear, hats, and sports gear.

The above collage shows a range of outfits to wear to dinner on a cruise. A nicer outfit is a button down shirt, slacks, and dress shoes. On the more casual end, sandals, shorts, and a collared shirt is also appropriate.

What to Wear to Formal Night for Men

boat cruise outfit male

When packing for a cruise, formal night is often what brings people the most stress. If formal night does not sound appealing to you, you can easily avoid the main dining room on these nights.

I personally love formal night! Its fun to dress a little fancy and experience a nice dinner. As with casual dinners on board, you will see a wide variety of outfits on formal night. Some people will be in tuxedos and others in shorts.

While you technically won’t be turned away for casual clothes, I recommend dressing up a bit. On the casual end, I recommend slacks and a collared shirt with dress shoes. On the fancier end, a suit is always a great decision.

Cruise Shirts

boat cruise outfit male

On boarding day of a cruise, you are guaranteed to see groups of friend and families wearing matching cruise shirts. If I’m being honest, these shirts tend to be a bit tacky, but are a great way to kick-off a group cruise.

In the above collage, I share some cruising shirts and sweatshirts that are actually cute. They are great to wear on the first day of a cruise, matching with your travel party, or as a gift for someone heading on a cruise.

Other Cruise Essentials

boat cruise outfit male

In addition to all the outfit ideas shared above, don’t forget to pack these cruise essentials :

Sunscreen – The sun is intense, so protect yourself. Supergoop is my favorite for a lightweight formula and high SPF. Portable charger – There’s nothing worse than running out of battery when you are relying on your phone for navigation and photos. This portable charger with built in cords will help with that! Hat – A hat is another great way to protect yourself from the sun or hide crazy beach hair. Bug spray – Bug spray is a great item to have on hand for any jungle excursions. Good book – Don’t forget a book for the plane and poolside. People You Meet on Vacation is one of my favorite travel-inspired books that is an easy-read. Imodium – In case you have any stomach issues, you will thank yourself for having this on hand. Reusable water bottle – Bring a reusable water bottle to fill up on board to take with you on port days. Its great to have a reliable source of water throughout the day. Waterproof phone case – Pack a waterproof phone case so you can safely take photos on or in the water. Towel Clips – The pool deck gets very windy on sea days. These towel clips will keep your towel from blowing away.

Summary of the best mens cruise outfits and packing list

To summarize mens cruise wear in a few words, it’s all about being comfortable, tropical, and appropriate for every occasion. Your suitcase should be full of shorts, Hawaiian shirts, sandals, and swimwear.

While there are no strict dress codes on cruises like there used to be, there are still a few occasions to dress up. For more dinners, smart casual is the way to go with a collared shirt or polo shirts being the perfect thing to wear. On formal night, step it up a bit with a long sleeve dress shirt and pants.

Remember, clothes to wear on a cruise are meant to enhance your experience. This means dressing for the occasion for also wearing what’s comfortable.

Yes, it is ok to wear jeans on a cruise. In fact, they are a great thing to wear to dinner on a non-formal night. For formal night, jeans are too casual to adhere to the dress code.

There is no dress code on a cruise outside of the dining room and restaurants. The dress code for the dining room varies each night depending on the theme. On casual nights, resort wear such as a collared shirt and shorts are appropriate. For formal night, wear long pants and a long sleeve collared shirt. You can also wear a suit to be on the dressier side. On any night, swimwear is prohibited in the dining room.

Some people get dressed up on cruises and others prefer to stay casual. If you don’t want to dress up, simply avoid the dining room on formal night. Other people enjoy dressing up and will wear a suit or tux on formal nights.

No, you do not need a suit on a cruise. Some people will wear a suit on formal night but it is not required buy the dress code.

Considerations for What to Wear on cruise for men

For those of you who are first time cruisers it it worth pointing out that cruise cabin staterooms are not renowned for being large. You want to not overpack so your luggage and packing will take up less space in your cabin.

One way of ensuring you pack lightly for a cruise is to pack a cruise capsule wardrobe. We like to use either the sudoku packing method or the 54321 packing technique to put together our men’s cruise capsule wardrobes.

Click here for what we think men’s travel essentials are.

Cruise Line

The cruise line you are traveling on will greatly influence the essential items on your men’s cruise packing list.

For instance, Cunard is renowned for being a much more formal line, and therefore you will see people wearing more formal and smart casual attire in the dining room.

Whereas, Norwegian Cruise Line on the other hand operates free style dining. This means that you are not set to a set dining room time and there are not formal nights or formal dinner to worry about.

Some cruises such as Disney also run theme nights, which require specific packing items.

Be sure to check out our cruise line specific dress code posts for information.

Cruise Itinerary Length

The length of your cruise ship itinerary will greatly impact your packing depending on whether there are laundry facilities on your ship, and whether you are happy to do laundry on your cruise vacation.

We have packing lists for specific cruise lengths below to help guide you on the quantities you need to pack.

  • 4 day cruise packing list
  • 5 day cruise packing list
  • 7 day cruise packing list
  • 14 day cruise packing list

Formal Nights

As I mentioned above cruise formal nights take place in the main dining room but it depends on the length of your cruise and the line you are sailing with as to how many you can expect.

Although some lines still recommend formalwear such as black tie tuxedos for formal nights, many places now will see men wearing chinos and a sports jacket instead.

If you have 2 or more formal nights we recommend packing just one jacket and trousers and using different button-down shirts and ties to style them differently.

Destination/

Whether you are traveling on warm weather cruises such as to the Caribbean, Mexico, French Polynesia or Fiji or a cold weather cruise i.e. Alaska, Iceland or the Baltics will affect how many layers you need.

However we always recommend packing a top layer for on the cruise ship where the air conditioning can be very strong.

Shore Excursions

The type of shore excursion you plan on doing will also affect the type of clothes you will need to pack. If you plan to do a lot of snorkelling and water activities then you will need more swimwear and snorkeling equipment with you.

Whereas if you are traveling to just cities, then comfortable walking shoes will need to be top of your list.

How to Put Together a Men’s Cruise Capsule wardrobe

Now capsule wardrobes are great not only for cruises but for other types of travel and for those who want to minimise their wardrobe more generally.

As such there are a few main capsule wardrobe rules or principles that you should try to abide by when putting together your cruise capsule wardrobe

The main rules for putting together a cruise capsule wardrobe are:

Only take beloved items

By this I mean only take items that you are absolutely 100% sure that you want to wear.

If you don’t wear it at home it is unlikely it will be come a go to item on a cruise ship.

Everything must work in more than one outfit

Don’t pack anything that can only be worn in one way.

Color schemes

Now this isn’t necessary in all capsule wardrobes but picking a color pallete so that everything complements each other is a great idea.

So now we have discussed why you should pack a capsule wardrobe and the basics about packing capsule rules we will turn our attention to how to put together a cruise capsule wardrobe and the best men’s wear for cruises.

In this section of the guide we will look at the best cruise wear for men, and put together some men’s cruise outfit ideas for your to give you inspiration for what to wear as a man on a cruise.

Note : although this aims to be a universal guide for the best cruise wear for men we have indicated the optional items which are weather dependent.

Casual Cruise Outfits for Men

MAn in shorts and shirt on a cruise ship

For a week’s cruise you will likely need around 3-4 casual outfits. These can be used on the day on the ship both on port days and sea days and can also be used on shore excursions and days in port.

Therefore we recommend packing the following items as part of your men’s cruise capsule wardrobe.

No matter the destination you are traveling to a t shirt is a great pick for a man on a cruise. These work no matter the destination and can be used in port and on shore excursions as well as on the cruise ship during the day.

Also if you have a casual night in the main dining room, then t shirts will be appropraite attite.

And plain smart t shirts or even polo shirts will work on smart casual nights in the main dining room. Note: in the buffet restaurant on cruise ships you can wear t shirts for both lunch and dinner any day of your cruise.

Click here to shop men’s t shirts on Amazon

If you decide to wear tank tops these will not be permitted in the main dining room at night.

Note : I often find that people tend to have a bit more humor on a cruise ship than they do on land. Therefore you will often find people especially men wearing comedy cruise related t shirts.

Click cruise pun shirts here .

Shorts are an essential on any hot weather cruise. If you plan on heading to any beaches or sticking poolside, then we recommend packing quick dry shorts.

It can be hard to dry shorts in humid conditions so we recommend quick dry ones in the Caribbean and Mexico etc.

Click here to shop quick dry shorts for men.

However it is also worth bringing smarter chino shorts or classic fit shorts with you like the ones below for in European cities for instance, and for using on casual nights on the cruise ship.

If you are traveling to Europe we also recommend avoiding cargo shorts where possible. This is because they will likely mark you as a tourist.

Click here to shop smart cruise shorts for men.

Even if you are traveling to a cold weather destination, such as going on a Baltic or an Alaskan cruise we recommend taking swimwear with you.

That is because even if the swimming pools aren’t heated (although many are heated on Alaskan cruises) , there are still lots of hot tubs for you to enjoy.

The only exception to this may be if you are traveling on a river cruise in Europe as most but not all of these have hot tubs. It is worth checking before travel so you know what to pack.

Also the good thing about cruises is that you will see all sorts of swimwear. On my cruises from America you will find most men wear swimming trunks. However on cruises with more European passengers you will also find that some men wear speedos.

Click here to shop men’s swimwear for cruises.

Rash Vest (optional)

A rash vest is an optional for most but is something that my husband always has on his cruise packing list. He likes to wear it out on the pool deck but I know not all men do.

However if you are traveling to a location where you plan to snorkel and do water sports it is good to have as extra protection from the sun.

Click here to shop men’s rash vests.

Sun hat (optional)

Only required if you plan to go on hot weather cruises. When I have cruised in the Caribbean the most common type of hat I see being worn by men is a baseball cap.

Required on cruises no matter the destination in my opinion.

Smart Casual Men’s Cruise Wear for Men

Man dress in smart casual men's cruise outfit with Alaska in background

Smart casual will be what you see most men wearing on a cruise at night. The best smart casual cruise wear for men in our opinion are:

Polo Shirts

If you don’t like wearing shirts then polo shirts are a great compromise for smart casual wear on cruises.

Click here to buy polo shirts.

Shirt (long or short-sleeve shirts)

Shirts both long and short sleeve will commonly be seen in the restuarants on cruise ships.

In hot weather destinations you tend to see more short sleeve shirts however it is worth noting that the air conditioning in the dining rooms can make you feel chilly.

On top of regular shirts you will also see many men wearing on cruise ships is

Hawaiian shirts

Hawaiian shirts are very popular on hot weather cruises, not just on a Hawaiian cruise.

Click here to shop Hawaiian shirts for cruises

Note : on many cruises shorts are not allowed in the main dining room so even on a hot weather cruise you will need a longer length pant if you want to eat in a main dining room or a specialty restaurant.

Chinos are a great choice for smart casual cruise wear for men, and can also be used as part of a formal cruise outfit on most cruise lines.

Linen pants are another great pick for men’s smart casual cruise outfits.

Click here to shop men’s chinos.

Smart Jeans

We are most commonly asked “Are jeans OK on a cruise?” And on most cruise lines smart jeans are acceptable for the main dining room.

However if you are not allowed jeans in the main dining room on your cruise it is still worth packing jeans for cooler days.

Reversible Belt

To ensure you have a belt for various colored chinos, shorts and jeans we recommend packing a reversible belt. This way you will only need one belt with you.

Click here to shop reversible belts.

Formal Cruise Wear for Men

Formal nights are not as common as they once were on cruises and the formal night dress codes are not as strict anymore.

It is worth checking your cruise lines policy regarding formal attire before packing but generally speaking the below will meet most (but not all) cruise formal night dress codes.

Note : Norwegian Cruise Line does not have formal lines and Cunard still tends to be the most formal.

Sports Jacket

My husband tends to find a sports jacket the perfect cruise outfit for formal nights.

Other good jacket choices for cruise formal nights include linen jackets. If you are worried about traveling with linen because of creases check out this post.

Click here to shop sports jackets.

As we mentioned above. These transition from smart casual to formal outfits depending on how you style them.

Tie (optional)

My husband hates wearing a tie, and a tie is not required on most cruises. Therefore it really depends on whether or not you wear ties as to whether you should pack one.

Tuxedo and dress shirt (optional)

A tuxedo and dress shirt shirt are really optional on most cruise lines (check your cruise line before travel). Therefore you would only need to pack this on a few cruise lines. However if you want to wear one then feel free to pack one.

Best men’s shoes for cruises

When I create any of my packing lists I recommend trying to limit the number of shoes you pack to 2 -3 pairs.

No matter where you are traveling you should pack:

These work no matter the destination you are traveling to whether cities, beaches or countryside. Great sneaker brands for cruises are Hoka and All Birds.

Depending on the time of year and destination you are traveling to you may need to buy a pair that has some water resistant qualities or that are light weight to cope with the heat.

Smarter Shoes

Sneakers often allowed in main dining rooms so you will need smarter shoes or dress shoes for smart casual evenings or formal nights on cruise ships.

Cruise Wear for Men

I love shopping for my husband’s clothes—it’s more fun and easier than shopping for myself, which he appreciates given his hectic schedule. Right before our trips, shopping for cruise clothes is an enjoyable ritual for him, often adding new items to his wardrobe before we go.

StitchFix has been a game-changer, creating a versatile capsule wardrobe for various occasions. Despite using the service, we still enjoy picking up additional pieces to complete his cruise attire because dressing for work isn’t the same as dressing for a cruise! He’s my playful “StitchFix model.”

Cruise Clothes for Men for Daytime Activities

  • For casual daytime activities like poolside relaxation or ship exploration, choose comfy and breathable options: shorts, tees, polos, sandals, or sneakers.
  • Opt for athletic wear, such as shorts and a moisture-wicking tee, for activities like rock climbing or zip-lining.
  • Dress comfortably and respectfully for port visits, adjusting to the destination. In the Caribbean, wear swimwear and light clothing. In the Mediterranean, opt for pants or jeans with a polo shirt.
  • For visiting European churches, cover your knees and shoulders—no shorts or tank tops.
  • In hot weather, lighter colors keep you cool under the sun.
  • Always check the dress code for restaurants or lounges you plan to visit during the day.

T-shirts are a must-have in your cruise clothes for men’s ensembles—versatile, comfortable, and suitable for any occasion. Pack 4-5, including basic plain ones and those with fun graphics, but avoid anything offensive. Consider bringing shirts that are dry-quick

They pair well with swimwear, shorts, jeans, khakis, and linen pants. For a dressier dinner look, a high-quality t-shirt can be combined with a button-down shirt, blazer, or jacket for a stylish vibe.

Include 1-2 plain dark-colored T-shirts for versatility. My brother opts for multi-pack cotton shirts, keeping things easy and functional for his travels—it works for him.

Fun Cruise T-Shirts for Men

For a hot and sunny destination, include shorts in your men’s cruise wardrobe—they’re comfortable, practical, and ideal for staying cool in the heat.

When selecting shorts, consider the length and fit. Cargo or quick-drying shorts offer a casual look for a day out in port, while linen or golf shorts can be dressed up for a more formal appearance.

boat cruise outfit male

Create a laid-back daytime look by pairing your shorts with a comfortable t-shirt or polo shirt. For a chic appearance, dress them up with a button-down shirt.

My husband loves his cargo shorts for their comfort and casual style, plus the convenient pockets for small items. Quick-drying shorts are another favorite—they can double as swimwear if the occasion arises. You never know!

boat cruise outfit male

Sea days revolve around the lido deck and pool, while port days are for beach and water activities if in the Caribbean. Pack swimwear even for an Alaskan cruise —you might find a hot tub and indoor pool or be surprised by warm sunny days.

By the pool, my husband goes for swim shorts and a T-shirt. Beach-hopping in the Caribbean means swim shorts and an SPF swim tee for swimming and sunbathing. His favorite is an Amazon Essentials Swim Tee , that we’ve purchased him in multiple colors, and they’ve lasted for years.

Comfortable Footwear

boat cruise outfit male

Comfortable footwear is a crucial part of your cruise wardrobe, considering the amount of walking around the cruise ship and in port.

Flip-flops are great for pool or beach days. Just be mindful of walking in them. Crocs and Keens are popular choices among cruisers.

Certain sneakers may be acceptable for dinner on non-formal nights in the main dining room. My husband vouches for the Adidas Cloudfoam sneakers as the most comfortable ever, and I had to get my own pair—now I’m obsessed!

Pack a hat to shield your head and face from the sun, and consider one that covers your neck to prevent sunburn (learned this the hard way once—it wasn’t pretty).

Don’t forget to slather on sunscreen for added protection.

Men’s Cruise Outfits for Evening Activities

  • We suggest more than just a swimsuit as evening approaches, even in a freestyle setting.
  • For men’s cruise attire, my husband’s decades-old advice stands strong: jeans and a polo shirt. It’s collared, casual yet not too formal—a practical and timeless choice for ship activities.
  • On casual nights, go for a sharp pair of jeans or pants, a basic top, and some dressy sneakers or shoes. Aim for smart casual, and you’re good to go.

Jeans and Pants

boat cruise outfit male

Opt for breathable cotton jeans and wrinkle-resistant chinos for cruise ship evenings. Jeans are versatile for multiple wear, while chinos can be dressed up or down—pair them with a button-down and blazer for a chic night.

My husband swears by his travel pants—super comfy and suitable for various occasions. They’ve become a staple in his cruise attire.

Polos and Button-Down Shirts

boat cruise outfit male

Level up from a t-shirt with a polo or button-down shirt—it instantly elevates your outfit.

With various fits, colors, and fabrics available, opt for breathable and comfortable materials to avoid feeling itchy and sweaty. Choosing a collared shirt doesn’t mean you should be ready to take it off at any moment.

boat cruise outfit male

A linen button-down is a nice piece to add to your men’s cruise wear, as it’s light to wear, and you don’t have to worry about it being overly wrinkled.

Since you’re on a cruise vacation, bring 1-2 Hawaiian shirts that scream vacation time.

boat cruise outfit male

Bring a hoodie, light jacket, or rain jacket for added comfort. Whether cruising the Caribbean or Mexican Riviera, nights on the ship can get chilly and windy outside. Always be prepared for unexpected rain.

Men’s Formal Chic Night Cruise Wear

kathy and her husband dressed up for cruise formal night

What do men wear on cruises for formal nights?

The days of formal nights when men used to dress up in tuxedos no longer exist, at least not on mainstream cruise lines. The guidelines have been relaxed, and it’s now more of a night where they ask that you dress up – a chic night. You have to be slightly more polished than usual.

You can mix and match for chic nights with these ideas:

  • A pair of chinos, a long-sleeved or short-sleeved button-down collared shirt, a belt, nice shoes, and an optional tie.
  • A dressy sweater , chinos, belt, and nice shoes.
  • A blazer, sportscoat , or nice button-down cardigan sweater with chinos, a button-down or polo shirt, and nice shoes.
  • A blazer or a sportscoat is an article of clothing that every man should have in their closet. It’s one item that easily transforms your casual look into a dressier one.
  • A suit with a button-down collared shirt, belt, nice shoes, and an optional tie.
  • On some cruises, a classic pair of jeans can pass as chic; make sure they are not distressed. Darker colored jeans work best.

Dressy Sweater, Blazer or Sports Coat

boat cruise outfit male

A dressy sweater, blazer, or sports coat goes well with a nice pair of pants for a chic night.

Paired with Chinos, Dress Pants, or Dark Jeans

boat cruise outfit male

A pair of chinos or dressy pants, and sometimes, even a pair of nice dark jeans, will work well for a chic night. Just pair it with a nice shirt, blazer, or a dressy sweater (if the jacket is required). You don’t want to wear jeans if it’s a full-on formal night on the cruise.

Button Downs or Polo Shirts

boat cruise outfit male

Button-downs can be as dressy and as casual as you want them to be. They are versatile and can be worn more than once during the cruise. You are set for a chic night once you pair this with a blazer and nice pants.

The Optional Suit

boat cruise outfit male

A nice suit covers you well for a formal or chic night. It’s an option if you want to pack it with you. Wear it with a tie, button down, or no tie, and even a polo shirt.

Dress Shoes

Pack dress shoes or even dressy sneakers to complete your men’s cruise outfits for chic or elegant evening nights on the cruise.

While adding another pair of shoes for limited wear can be frustrating, the enjoyment of dining at main and specialty restaurants makes it worthwhile. With NCL, there’s no need to worry about specific shoes for evening chic.

Accessories

  • Nice Belt : Start with a stylish belt as a chic accessory.
  • Classic Watch: Add a classic watch for a touch of sophistication.
  • Subtle Cufflinks: Consider subtle cufflinks to enhance the refined look.
  • Sophisticated Pocket Square: Complete the ensemble with a sophisticated pocket square.
  • A tie: Include a tie to elevate the outfit.
  • Coordinate Colors and Style: Ensure accessories complement your outfit’s overall color scheme and style for a polished appearance.

  • Learn to roll or fold your clothes to save space.
  • Buy compression packing cubes .
  • Check the weather forecast for your itinerary and pack accordingly. Bring lightweight clothing for warmer climates and layering pieces for cooler temperatures.

Do you have to dress up every night on a cruise?

Dressing up every night on a cruise isn’t necessary. Most cruise lines have varying dress codes, allowing casual attire during the day and a more casual or “smart casual” look in the evening. Save the swim trunks for the daytime and wear nice pants at night.

In my household, my husband often struggles with what to pack when we cruise. We use a cruise packing list to keep organized and to make sure that nothing is forgotten at home. Yes, this has happened in the past (dress shoes!).

What to Wear on a Cruise for Men

Ilana and Frank formal night cruise wear

When planning what to wear on a cruise for men, consider the cruise line dress code as a starting point to help you plan what to wear in the evening. These days, most cruises are less formal than just a few years ago.

However many cruise lines will have one or two formal nights , or dress- up evenings, where suits or dress pants and a dress shirt are appropriate. Make sure to pack dress shoes, dress socks and a belt.

The other evenings will be a casual or smart casual dress code. Most men will be wearing beige chinos or dark pants or jeans, with a polo style shirt. What you’d wear to a nice restaurant is perfect for dining rooms and restaurants on board.

Caribbean and other warm weather cruises (Mexico, Bahamas, Bermuda ) call for casual cruise wear during the day. When planning what to wear on a cruise , pack bathing suits for sea days and beach shore excursions, and shorts and t-shirts.

Remember comfortable walking shoes and sandals or flip flops for the pool.

As we were getting ready for a recent cruise, my husband had a hard time finding resort wear and cruise attire for men in stores. We were pleasantly surprised at the stylish and affordable items we found on Amazon.

Classic Polo Shirt

Solid color classic polo shirts are perfect worn with shorts for sightseeing during the day in a cruise port. However, this is also great to wear for dinner in the evening with a pair of khakis or dark jeans.

Nautica is one of my husband and son’s favorite brands for casual men’s cruisewear for quality and comfort at a reasonable price.

What Clothes To Pack For A Cruise: A Concise Packing List (For Men)

boat cruise outfit male

Heading out into the open seas soon, and want to make sure you’re dressed right? Look no further. We’re gonna cover exactly what clothes to pack for a cruise in this article.

And yes, you’re on a menswear website, so our focus is on tackling that cruise packing list for men. There seem to be more guides out there designed for ladies when it comes to packing for trips. This, unfortunately, doesn’t mean that men’s suitcases are a straight-forward endeavor.

This is true when it comes to packing for a cruise, and especially when figuring out what to include in your vacation wardrobe.

boat cruise outfit male

Not all boat holidays are the same. Different parts of the ship have different temperature situations to consider, not to mention the range of programming and points of disembarking—sometimes it feels like you’re packing for every season. Keep reading to get the details!

Jump To Any Section

A Quick Cruise Packing List (For Men)

If you just need a checklist to start packing, to check over what you’ve already packed, or to jog your memory for things you might’ve forgotten, I’ve listed everything right in this section (we’ll get into each item further down in this article):

What to Pack for Every Cruise

Regardless of whether you’re on a cruise in the Caribbean or a multi-stop European voyage, you’re definitely going to need a few style basics that can be used to create several outfits.

In general, you’ll want to follow the basics and guidelines we outline in our men’s summer fashion article.

We’re assuming a 7-day cruise for this packing list, but if you’re taking a longer 10- or 14-day cruise, you may have to double up on some of these.

Men’s Swimsuit

When going on a cruise, you should bring at least two different swimsuits. You have the option of buying various quick-drying swim shorts that are comfortable and excellent for catamaran snorkeling trips and beach outings.

Obviously, you’ll go for your favorite colors to wear, though if you’re on a tropical cruise, it’s a good time to experiment with brighter hues and lively patterns if it’s something you’ve always wanted to do but never had the opportunity.

If you know the programming will have a white party or a deck cocktail, and if you’re more of a sunbather and feet-dipper, rather than a full-on swimmer, here’s a trick to help you pack more efficiently.

Go for fitted, above-the-knee shorts, in white or cream. If you aren’t planning on getting wet, it’ll serve all of the above purposes.

Mack Weldon Swim Board Shorts

Last but not least Like its socks or boxer briefs, Mack Weldon has turned its penchant for design and performance into some must-buy swim trunks. These feature four-way stretch fabric and zip front and back pockets to protect your EDC from wind and waves.

Which leads us to our next cruise essential…

Classic Fit Shorts

When choosing what clothes to pack for a cruise, remember that you’ll always look great in beige or tan shorts with a classic fit .

Again, depending on your poolside preferences, jersey or linen shorts will get a ton of mileage on a cruise.

J.Crew Stretch Chino Shorts in Stone

Wearing shorts made of jersey material with pockets is ideal when you’re lounging by the pool, walking around the cruise ship, or visiting the ports, since it’s lightweight and made for comfort and warm weather.

Unless there’s a non-neutral color that you really love and want to wear a lot, shades like gray, navy blue, black, and olive will be the easiest to partner shirts with (in addition to the prior mentioned white or cream ).

Classic Fit Men’s Chinos

Khaki pants should always be on your list of what to pack for a cruise. In general, cruises are mostly resort-casual during the day, and chinos are a perfect, elegant approach to a relaxed on-vacation look. Plus, they’re super versatile.

Chinos are ideal for a variety of occasions, including smart casual evenings and events that take place in the ship’s main dining rooms and restaurants .

Banana Republic Chinos

BR has a variety of chinos in different fits and fabric styles, some 100% cotton, others with a bit of stretch for comfort.

Bring along at least one or two pairs of classic pants that you can wear with a button-down shirt or a polo top—a pair of maroon pants might be a fun option .

Long-sleeve Linen Shirt

Long-sleeve linen shirts are worth mentioning. They’re lightweight and look cruise-appropriate, with or without a collar.

Again, because of the casual-leaning nature of cruises, they may not be as versatile as their short-sleeve, collared counterparts (which are perfectly appropriate by the pool and walking around during the day).

But to be honest, I’d recommend a linen shirt for your everyday, walk-around outfit because they look so great in tropical locales (and on ships). They’re flowy and cool, as well, and are easily dressed up or down.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Effortless Gent | effortlessgent.com (@effortlessgent)

If you opt to bring a long-sleeve linen shirt , you can pair it with chinos and leather loafers for an elegantly casual dinner look . If you don’t bring one, just replace with a short-sleeve collared shirt and a blazer.

Short-Sleeve Collared Shirts

Polo shirts and short-sleeve button-ups, like khaki or linen shorts, can do double and triple duty on basically any kind of cruise.

short sleeve shirt fit - peter manning short sleeve shirts

How Should Polos and Short Sleeve Button Up Shirts Fit?

In fact, unless there is formal programming on the boat, you can likely get away with just packing a polo a day in different colors, since you can wear them with shorts or pants, and with or without a blazer or jacket.

Short-sleeve button-ups are even more versatile since they can sometimes pass as more formal shirts when paired with a sport jacket .

Speaking of jackets, you should probably bring a sport coat. They’re the cherry on top for the resort casual or smart casual outfits you’ll be wearing on the ship.

The one exception is if you’re packing a full suit. If you are strategic with your suit selection, you can skip bringing a sport coat and just wear the suit trousers and jacket separately as needed. (See below for our thoughts on bringing a suit.)

Spier & Mackay Navy Hopsack Jacket

A luxurious, open weave wool silk blend fabric from Italian mill Lanificio di Pray. This perfect relaxed, versatile, warm weather jacket features an unstructured cut with no padding or canvassing.

So what kind of sport coat? I’d recommend a lightweight, unstructured navy jacket made from cotton, linen, silk, wool, or some combination of those. That’s gonna be your most versatile and comfortable jacket. It’ll go with stone chinos, white denim, light grey linen trousers, light khaki chino shorts, everything.

For shoes, you’ll need: One sharp pair of loafers , one pair of white / neutral low-profile leather or canvas sneakers , and a pair of flip-flops or slides for the pool or beach.

A leather boat shoe ( worn with or without socks ) could replace both flip flops and sneakers, though if they get scuffed up on the beach or wash away with the waves, you won’t have a backup casual shoe option.

Want ONE Pair of Great Loafers?

These Grant Stone Suede Loafers Are It. Read Our Review →

Most likely, your loafers will see the most use. That’s because they’re a great option for your resort casual outfits. Minimal canvas or white leather sneakers (or boat shoes) are fine too, but how often do we get to step up our style in a fun, OK-to-show-out situation such as a fancy cruise?

Loafers are the most balanced way to approach effortless formality, perfect for a cruise. They can be worn with shorts and they’re great traveling shoes too, since they’re easy to slip on and off.

Accessories

When it comes to accessories, consider bringing a leather belt , one or two watches , a pair of sunglasses , and one to two hats . You may need one or two ties , too, if you have any formal dinners to attend.

For ties , you’re certainly welcome to pack just one, if you’re okay with not mixing it up. And, you can also pack several if you know you’ll be wearing a tie often, and it doesn’t take up packing space from the essentials. Some cruises do have more than one semi-formal in its duration.

For watches , you can bring one, as long as it’s a versatile, luxury sport watch . Most luxury sport watches can be paired with a suit. And if there’s a truly formal, tuxedo-appropriate event, you can just go watchless, per old traditions. Otherwise, bring one dress watch and one casual watch .

To protect yourself from the sun, bring hats and sunglasses —two of each in case you lose one.

Specific Clothes for Specific Cruises

Now that we’ve covered the essentials you’ll need on every cruise, here are some pieces you may need to consider for more specialized situations.

A lot of these can actually take the place of some of the above essentials, if you like, though they aren’t as easily multi-use. Read on to see what I mean!

A Summer-Weight Suit

While you won’t always need a fully formal/black-tie optional situation, you may need at least one proper suit.

If a particular program or time of evening at a ship’s dining hall is truly black tie, you’ll know because the cruise line will fully communicate that to you. However, in the semi-formal or cocktail realm, it’s best to avoid landmines and just bring a suit.

The Perennial Suit from Suitsupply

The perfect suit to have, if you only have one suit. Available in classic colors and a variety of cuts.

When you’re on the boat, you’ll never be that far away from your room, and if you don’t end up wearing the jacket and the pants together, they’ll be effective separates for dinner or drinks .

Even if you don’t wear a dress shirt , you can wear a short-sleeve button-up, camp collar shirt , or ribbed hem polo shirt in its place. Plus, the jacket can serve as a piece of outerwear for places on the boat that are air-conditioned.

If, and only if, there’s formal programming at any point in the cruise, will you need a tuxedo plus all its accoutrement. And typically, the cruise line will be pretty blatant about it in their messaging.

In fact, most cruise lines won’t have anything that formal , and you’ll more likely run into this situation if you’re on a private cruise. Meaning, perhaps the social club you’re in or the company you work for is throwing a special event.

That being the case, there might be a formal dinner with a presentation, maybe there’s a Bond-like casino theme going on, or sometimes one of your stops includes a banquet hall situation.

These days, you can often wear a crisp black suit to formal events. You’ll just need a different suit, maybe in gray or navy, if there’s a cocktail on another day, so that you can differentiate your formal and cocktail attire.

Dress Shirt

Similar to a tuxedo, you won’t often need a dress shirt at most resort-style cruises. Naturally, you’ll need at least one or two , if any of the above formal situations are expected.

Otherwise, it’s a matter of how much you want to spruce it up at semi-formals, at dinner, and at cocktail events.

Dress shirts aren’t as versatile as short-sleeve button-ups, when it comes to what goes on during a cruise, but they also don’t take up that much room.

As always, feel free to pack one or two, if you like, as long as it doesn’t take up the space of an essential.

Dress Shoes

If you have a nice pair of leather or suede loafers such as what I’ve mentioned above, you can probably get away with that for most resort casual and formal dress codes.

Again, pay attention to the cruise’s schedule of events. If you’re attending a particularly high-end cruise trip, then you may need specific dress shoes like oxfords or bluchers, which are a step above loafers in terms of formality .

Sports- & Activity-Specific Gear

If you’re going on a cruise built around a specific hobby or activity, like golfing or hiking, you’ll obviously need to pack accordingly.

You might do some hiking during general travel cruises, in which case your sneakers will do just fine. However, if it’s an actual hiking tour, you’ll need your trail shoes or hiking boots .

Make sure your boots are fully broken in, or you’ll be in a lot of pain during the activities !

Other possible sports clothes and gear you might need include golf cleats, since golf tour cruises are common among hobbyists, and possibly even wetsuits, if you go on a diving cruise.

Diving cruises typically provide all of the gear though, so it really depends on the cruise line. It’s the same situation with golf gear.

Which leads us to our next topic…

Non-Clothing Items to Pack for a Cruise

Toiletries and medicine.

You’ll probably find soap and shampoo in your stateroom on cruise ships just as you would in a hotel. But, the onboard items might not work well for your hair and skin , or you might not like the scent .

If that sounds like you, then it’s best to bring your own toiletries whenever possible—especially if you have allergies.

Since you’ll be under the sun a lot, sunscreen is also very important!

Pack more than you believe you’ll require because it might be challenging to get your preferred brands in ports outside of the country and cruise liners often charge exorbitant fees for the sale of necessities.

Travel Gear

Not all of us have the good fortune to live within a couple of hours drive of a major seaport. The majority of cruise passengers must either fly or drive to their embarkation port, which means they must pack for both modes of transportation.

Accessories for the airplane, such as a neck cushion, eye mask, or noise-canceling headphones, should be included for lengthy flights and overnight flights leading up to a cruise vacation.

If you have a pre-cruise hotel stay planned, you might want to think about packing the essentials for that extended stay in a separate bag so that you won’t have to unpack as well as repack your primary suitcase .

This will save you time and energy.

You’re going to want to bring your tablet computer or an electronic book reader with you for both the pre-cruise travel and if you want to relax with a good book , or audio book , under the sun while you’re on the boat.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should a man wear on a cruise .

  • a) a classic linen shirt or b) a camp collar shirt , with
  • a) chino shorts or b) chino pants, and
  • a) white minimalist sneakers or b) brown loafers.

Choosing one option from each line is a simple outfit option that would cover a wide range of cruise dress codes (or lack of dress codes).

Of course, if you’re attending a formal event or lounging by the pool, you’ll need something a bit different. See the above article for all our suggestions.

How many outfits do I need for a 7-day cruise?

If you follow the Lean Wardrobe philosophy , most / all of your individual items can be mixed and matched into a number of wardrobes, so you don’t have to bring tons of stuff.

In general, you should carry enough clothing to make at least 6-7 outfits (individual items can be repeated in several of these outfits, of course). Depending on the cruise program, you will need a mix of formal / semi-formal outfits and resort casual outfits .

You’ll also need pool and loungewear, and practical attire for adventures on dry land.

What should I wear during the day on a cruise ship?

The goal here is to be casual, yet put together and stylish. Try tailored shorts, linen shirts , and minimal canvas or leather sneakers, for starters. This will take you from the deck to the dock, throughout the towns you’re exploring, and back again.

Don’t forget your accessories, like a straw panama hat, a handkerchief or bandana (to wipe your hands or sweaty brow) and classically shaped sunglasses for a bit of sun protection.

Are jeans OK on a cruise?

Yes, jeans are generally OK on a cruise, particularly during the day or in casual settings. For max versatility, bring a pair of clean, dark wash, straight leg jeans with minimal distressing and fading. These can easily be dressed up or down.

It’s best to avoid distressed or overly casual jeans. They’re not as versatile and may not be suitable for some dining venues or formal events on board.

Can I wear shorts to dinner on a cruise?

Shorts are perfectly fine for daytime activities, though they are most likely not appropriate for the cruise ship’s formal dining settings and events. To be safe, wear trousers or chinos paired with a collared shirt for a more polished, dinner-appropriate look .

The more casual dining venues or buffet-style restaurants may be more lenient with their dress code, allowing shorts during meal times.

What is smart casual attire for a cruise ship?

Smart casual attire for men on a cruise ship might include dress chinos or tailored trousers, a crisp button-down shirt or ribbed hem polo shirt , and a lightweight sport coat. Finish the look with loafers or dress shoes, a clean dress belt, and a refined watch .

The smart casual dress code allows for a more relaxed vibe while still maintaining a refined appearance, perfect for most cruise ship events and dining venues.

Are there any items I should avoid packing for a cruise?

You can probably leave these things at home:

  • Overly casual items like distressed jeans or offensive / corny graphic tees (not appropriate for a classy cruise ship)
  • Heavy coats or bulky sweaters (not needed in a tropical cruise climate)
  • Basic toiletries (unless you need them for a specific reason) such as soap and shampoo, towels, a hair dryer, etc. The cruise ship will provide these for you

Bon Voyage!

When traveling on a cruise, it’s common to bring too many clothes and forget everything else.

When you take your luggage out of the closet and start packing for your next trip, refer to this list so that you can make sure you have everything you need, not only in terms of clothing but also the accessories and toiletries you’ll need.

Most importantly, loosen up and enjoy yourself. You’re going on a cruise! If you have any more questions on what to pack for a one or two week cruise, you can DM us on Instagram anytime.

Hey, guys! Are you planning to go on a cruise and wondering what to wear? Let’s talk cruise fashion for men so you can look your best on your trip.

First and foremost, make sure to pack clothes that are appropriate for the weather and activities, both onboard and on excursions. Check your cruise line’s dress code well before your cruise so you can be sure you have everything you need. You don’t want to be caught wearing shorts at a specialty restaurant, or long pants on a beach day.

What Men Wear on Cruises

For daytime activities, go for casual wear like shorts, T-shirts, and polo shirts. Don’t forget to bring comfortable footwear like sneakers or sandals. If you plan to go to the fitness center or participate in sports, pack workout clothes as well.

On dressier nights, a blazer or sports coat paired with dress pants and a collared shirt is a great option. You can also add a tie to dress it up even more, and be sure to bring dress shoes that match.

The luxury cruise lines have formal nights and require men to wear a suit and tie, or at least a dress shirt and dress pants. If you choose to bring a suit, make sure it fits properly and is well-pressed. Although the mainstream and premier cruise lines have relaxed their dress codes, some people still dress in formal wear; it’s just not required on those lines.

Also, don’t forget to pack swimwear and beachwear for days spent lounging by the pool or on the beach. Board shorts, swim trunks, and T-shirts are all great options.

Choosing What to Pack

We’re assuming this is a seven-night cruise to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Mexican Riviera, Bermuda, or the Mediterranean and are planning accordingly. There are usually five or six port days where you’ll be going on excursions, and a sea day or two where you’ll stay onboard. In the evenings, dinners will usually be casual unless you go to a specialty restaurant or it’s a dressy night.

I’ve chosen items in mostly blues and tans that mix and match well. A link to the retailer is listed below each item in case you want to check it out.

Store inventories are fluid, so you may click on an item to shop it and find it’s no longer available. In any case, you can see the look I was going for.

Let’s start with some bottoms: three pairs of shorts, a pair of khakis, and jeans.

Navy shorts

Now, let’s find some shirts. Three T-shirts, one long-sleeved shirt, two camp shirts, a polo, and a graphic tee.

Blue tee

And some shoes and accessories: sunglasses, watch, belt, loafers, boat shoes, sneakers, and a couple of ball caps.

Sunglasses 2

Plus, an optional blazer, a hoodie, and a swimsuit.

For the pool or beach, a swimsuit, tee, hat, and sunglasses are the best.

Working Out

If you work out, you will want clothing especially for that.

Casual Evenings

For casual evenings, you may be able to wear shorts if you are eating in a casual restaurant, but for a main dining room, you will want to wear long pants.

Dressier Evenings

If you are dining at a specialty restaurant or going to the theater, you will want to dress up a little. Up your game with a button-up shirt, khakis, and blazer.

Travel Outfit

For travel, you want to be comfortable but also look nice. This outfit will accomplish both.

Simply pack a variety of items you can mix and match for different occasions, and make sure they fit well and are appropriate for the activity or dress code. Cruising has become a popular way to travel, and it’s not just for retirees anymore. With the wide variety of activities and destinations available, there’s something for everyone on a cruise. However, packing for a cruise can be a challenge, especially when it comes to choosing the right outfits. Men, in particular, may struggle with finding the right cruise outfits that are both stylish and practical.

Understanding the dress codes on a cruise ship is essential when packing for a cruise. Different cruise lines have different dress codes, which can range from casual to formal. It’s important to research the dress codes for your specific cruise and pack accordingly. Additionally, choosing the right outfits for different activities on the cruise is important. Whether you’re lounging by the pool or going to a formal dinner, having the appropriate attire will make you feel comfortable and confident.

Key Takeaways

  • Choosing the right outfits for different activities on the cruise is important.
  • Packing for a cruise can be a challenge, but with the right knowledge and planning, it can be stress-free.

Understanding Cruise Dress Codes

When it comes to dressing for a cruise, it’s important to understand the dress codes that may be in place. Cruise lines typically have a variety of dress codes for different occasions and venues on board. These dress codes are in place to ensure that all guests feel comfortable and appropriately dressed for the occasion.

One of the most common dress codes on a cruise is “cruise casual.” This dress code is typically required in most dining venues during the day and evening. It allows for comfortable, relaxed clothing such as khakis, jeans, shorts, and collared shirts. However, tank tops, swimwear, and flip-flops are usually not allowed in dining venues during this dress code.

For formal dining, cruise lines often have a “formal night” dress code. This is typically the most formal dress code on board and requires formal attire such as a tuxedo or suit and tie for men and an evening gown or cocktail dress for women.

Semi-formal dress codes are also common on cruises. This dress code is less formal than formal night but still requires dressier attire such as a blazer and slacks for men and a dress or skirt and blouse for women.

Smart casual is another dress code that may be required in certain dining venues. This dress code is similar to cruise casual but with a slightly dressier twist. It may require collared shirts and dress shoes for men and sundresses or dressy pants for women.

In addition to these dress codes, some cruises also have theme nights such as pirate night or 80s night. These dress codes are usually more relaxed and allow for fun, themed attire.

It’s important to note that each cruise line may have different dress codes and norms for what is acceptable attire. It’s always a good idea to check with your specific cruise line before packing to ensure that you have appropriate attire for all occasions on board.

Choosing the Right Outfits

When it comes to choosing the right outfits for a cruise, there are a few things to keep in mind. First and foremost, it’s important to consider the dress code of the cruise line you’ll be sailing with. Some cruise lines have formal nights, while others are more casual. Check the dress code policy before packing to ensure that you have appropriate attire for all occasions.

For formal nights, men should wear a suit or tuxedo with dress shoes and a tie. A bow tie can also be a stylish option. For more casual evenings, a polo shirt or dress shirt with khaki trousers or jeans is appropriate. Boat shoes or loafers are a good choice for footwear.

For daytime activities, such as lounging by the pool or exploring ports of call, casual attire is the norm. Shorts and a t-shirt or tank top are comfortable options, and sandals or sneakers are good choices for footwear. A hat can also provide protection from the sun.

If you plan to participate in sailing or water sports, be sure to pack appropriate attire such as a swimsuit and shorts. Sandals or water shoes are also a good idea.

Accessories can also add a touch of style to any outfit. A blazer or sport coat can dress up a casual look, while a dress watch or leather bag can add sophistication. Don’t forget to pack a lightweight jacket or long pants for cooler evenings.

Overall, it’s important to pack a variety of outfits that are appropriate for the activities and dress code of your cruise. With a little planning, you can look stylish and feel comfortable throughout your vacation.

Packing for Different Cruise Activities

When going on a cruise, it’s important to pack for different activities that you might encounter. This section will provide some guidelines for packing for various activities on a cruise.

Restaurants

Most cruise ships have a variety of restaurants onboard, ranging from casual to formal. For casual dining, pack comfortable clothing such as shorts, t-shirts, and sandals. For formal dining, pack dressier clothing such as a suit or dress. Check with your cruise line for specific dress codes.

Cruise ships offer a variety of activities such as swimming, golfing, and sightseeing. For swimming, pack swimsuits and cover-ups. For golfing, pack appropriate golf attire. For sightseeing, pack comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.

If you plan on spending time at the pool, pack a sturdy swimsuit and flip flops. Consider packing a cover-up or t-shirt to protect your skin from the sun.

If you plan on working out, pack appropriate gym attire and shoes. Some cruise ships have fitness centers with weight machines and cardio equipment.

If you’re cruising in Europe, pack clothing appropriate for the weather. Consider packing layers for cooler temperatures. Also, pack comfortable walking shoes for sightseeing.

Shore Excursions

If you plan on going on shore excursions, pack clothing appropriate for the activities. For example, if you’re going on a hiking excursion, pack sturdy shoes and comfortable clothing.

To fully enjoy the views on a cruise, consider packing binoculars and a camera. Also, pack sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.

Overall, when packing for a cruise, it’s important to be prepared for a variety of activities and environments. By following these guidelines, you’ll be ready for whatever your cruise has in store.

Essentials for Cruise Climate and Weather

When packing for a cruise, it is important to consider the climate and weather conditions you will encounter on your trip. Here are some essentials to pack for a comfortable and enjoyable cruise experience:

Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays is crucial on a cruise, especially if you plan on spending a lot of time outdoors. Be sure to pack a high SPF sunscreen and apply it regularly throughout the day.

The climate on a cruise can vary depending on your destination and the time of year you are traveling. It is important to research the climate of your destination and pack accordingly. If you are traveling to a warm climate, pack lightweight clothing and breathable fabrics. If you are traveling to a cooler climate, pack layers that can easily be added or removed as the temperature changes.

Cold and Windy Weather

Even if you are traveling to a warm climate, it is important to pack a light fleece or jacket for cooler evenings or windy days. This will keep you comfortable and prevent you from getting sick.

Sun Protection

In addition to sunscreen, it is important to pack a hat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from the sun’s rays. This will also help prevent headaches and eye strain.

Air-Conditioning

Many cruise ships have air-conditioned cabins and common areas, so it is important to pack a light sweater or jacket to stay comfortable in cooler temperatures.

If you are traveling during the rainy season or to a destination with unpredictable weather, it is important to pack a raincoat or poncho to stay dry.

If you are traveling to a destination with strong breezes, it is important to pack a scarf or shawl to keep your neck and shoulders warm.

By packing these essentials, you can ensure a comfortable and enjoyable cruise experience, no matter the weather conditions.

Additional Cruise Packing Tips

When packing for a cruise, it’s important to consider what to wear on a cruise and what cruise clothing is appropriate. In addition to the basics, such as oxfords and a cardigan, there are a few cruise essentials that should be included on any cruise packing list for men.

Toiletries and medicine are a must, as well as any necessary travel gear. Clothing choices should be based on the ports of call and weather conditions. Layering is key for fluctuating temperatures, and it’s important to consider the type of activities planned, such as hiking or lounging by the pool.

When it comes to footwear, flip flops are great for the pool deck, but hiking boots may be necessary for exploring certain ports of call. It’s important to pack appropriate footwear for any planned activities.

Lastly, don’t forget to consider food when packing for a cruise. While formal nights may require a suit and tie, most dining options on a cruise ship are casual. Comfortable clothing is key for enjoying all the delicious food options available.

Overall, by considering these additional cruise packing tips, men can ensure they are prepared for any situation that may arise during their cruise vacation.

Understanding Cruise Fashion Norms

When it comes to dressing for a cruise, it’s important to understand the various fashion norms that exist onboard. Different cruise lines and itineraries may have different dress codes and expectations, so it’s important to do your research before packing your bags.

One of the most common dress codes for cruises is “cruise casual.” This typically means that shorts, t-shirts, and other casual clothing is acceptable during the day, while slightly dressier attire is expected in the evenings. On some cruise lines, there may be designated “formal nights” where guests are expected to dress up in suits or formal dresses.

Another popular dress code is “smart casual,” which usually means collared shirts and slacks for men, and dresses or dressy separates for women. This dress code is often required in the ship’s dining rooms and other public areas.

“Resort casual” is another common dress code, which is similar to cruise casual but with a slightly dressier twist. This dress code is often used on luxury cruise lines or in more upscale dining venues.

“Semi-formal” is another dress code that may be required on some cruise lines, which typically means a suit and tie for men and a cocktail dress for women.

In addition to these dress codes, many cruises also feature “theme nights” where guests are encouraged to dress up in a specific style or costume. For example, some cruises may have a “pirate night” where guests are encouraged to dress up like pirates.

It’s important to note that different cruise lines may have different dress codes and expectations, so it’s important to check with your specific cruise line before packing your bags. When packing for a cruise, it’s also important to consider the fabrics of your clothing, as you’ll want to choose items that are comfortable, breathable, and easy to care for.

A boat cruise party is a fantastic way to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a memorable day on the water. But when it comes to deciding what to wear, the choices can feel overwhelming.

Whether you’re attending a yacht party, a sunset cruise, or a tropical island excursion, it’s essential to dress the part. The right attire will not only make you look stylish but also ensure you’re comfortable throughout the event. In this article, we’ll provide you with some helpful tips and outfit ideas to help you nail your boat cruise party look.

When considering your outfit for a boat cruise party, it’s important to strike a balance between style and practicality. You want to look chic and put-together while still being able to move freely and enjoy the festivities. Keep in mind the overall theme of the event, the location, and the expected weather conditions to choose the perfect outfit.

Next, we’ll explore different clothing styles that are well-suited for boat cruise parties. Whether you prefer a sophisticated and elegant look or a more casual and laid-back vibe, there are options for everyone. Let’s delve into the world of fashion on the high seas!

Choosing the Right Clothing Style

When it comes to choosing the right clothing style for a boat cruise party, it’s essential to consider the overall vibe and theme of the event. Is it a formal affair, or a more casual gathering? Are you attending a daytime cruise or an evening soirée under the stars? Answering these questions will help you determine the appropriate level of formality for your outfit.

If the boat cruise party is more formal, opt for elegant and sophisticated attire. Ladies can consider a stylish maxi dress in a flowing fabric, paired with strappy sandals or heels. Gentlemen can’t go wrong with a tailored suit or a dress shirt and trousers combo, paired with loafers or boat shoes.

For a more casual boat cruise party, embrace a laid-back and relaxed style. Ladies can opt for a breezy sundress in vibrant colors or patterns, paired with comfortable sandals or wedges. Gentlemen can go for a comfortable linen shirt paired with chinos or khaki shorts and boat shoes.

It’s also important to consider the weather conditions when choosing your outfit. If you’re attending a daytime cruise in hot and sunny weather, opt for lightweight fabrics that breathe well, such as linen or cotton. For cooler evenings, you might want to bring along a light jacket or sweater to layer over your outfit.

Additionally, consider the practicality of your outfit. Remember that you’ll be on a boat, and there might be some movement and wind. Choose clothing that will allow you to move freely and won’t be easily blown around by the wind. Avoid oversized, flowy garments or long trailing skirts that might get in the way.

By considering the formality of the event, the time of day, the weather conditions, and the practicality of your outfit, you can choose the perfect clothing style for your boat cruise party. Now, let’s move on to some outfit ideas for women and men to help you put together a memorable and stylish look.

And don’t forget to accessorize with sunglasses, a stylish watch, and a straw hat to complete your look. Now, let’s move on to the next section and discuss how to elevate your boat cruise party outfit with accessories.

Accessorizing for the Boat Cruise Party

Accessories can take your boat cruise party outfit from ordinary to extraordinary. They add the perfect finishing touches and elevate your style to the next level. Here are some ideas for accessorizing your boat cruise party look:

1. Statement Jewelry: Add some flair to your outfit with statement jewelry pieces. For women, consider layering necklaces, stacking bangles, or wearing bold statement earrings. For men, opt for a stylish watch, a statement ring, or a sophisticated bracelet. Just be mindful not to overdo it – choose one or two standout pieces to avoid overwhelming your look.

2. Hats and Caps: Protect yourself from the sun while adding a stylish touch with a hat or cap. For women, a wide-brimmed hat not only provides shade but also adds an element of glamour to your ensemble. For men, a classic baseball cap or a captain’s hat can add a playful and nautical vibe to your outfit.

3. Sunglasses: A must-have accessory for any boat cruise party, sunglasses not only protect your eyes from the sun but also add instant coolness to your look. Choose a style that complements the shape of your face and matches your personal style. Aviators, wayfarers, or oversized sunglasses are popular choices that never go out of style.

4. Bags and Clutches: Opt for a stylish and practical bag or clutch to carry your essentials during the boat cruise party. For women, a crossbody bag or a woven beach tote can be both fashionable and functional. For men, choose a sleek messenger bag or a compact leather wallet to keep your belongings organized.

5. Belts: Don’t underestimate the power of a well-chosen belt to pull your outfit together. Both men and women can benefit from adding a stylish belt to their boat cruise party look. Choose a belt that complements the colors and style of your outfit and opt for a material like woven fabric or leather for a touch of elegance.

Remember to consider the practicality of the accessories you choose. Ensure they won’t get in the way or hinder your ability to move freely during the boat cruise party. By selecting the right accessories, you can add flair, personality, and individuality to your boat cruise party outfit. Now, let’s move on to the next section and discuss shoe options for the boat cruise party.

Shoe Options for the Boat Cruise Party

Choosing the right shoes for a boat cruise party is crucial to ensure both style and comfort. You’ll want a pair of shoes that not only complements your outfit but also allows you to move around the boat with ease. Here are some shoe options to consider:

1. Boat Shoes: Boat shoes are a classic and practical choice for a boat cruise party. They are designed with a non-slip sole, making it easy to navigate the boat’s deck. Opt for boat shoes in neutral colors like brown or navy, which can easily coordinate with various outfits. They pair well with both casual and formal attire.

2. Sandals: Women can opt for stylish and comfortable sandals for a boat cruise party. Choose strappy sandals or embellished flat sandals to add a touch of elegance to your look. Look for sandals with secure straps or buckles to ensure they stay in place while you’re on the move.

3. Espadrilles: Espadrilles are a trendy choice for both men and women. These lightweight shoes with a rope or jute sole offer both comfort and style. Women can choose espadrille wedges for added height, while men can opt for espadrille sneakers or loafers for a relaxed yet fashionable look.

4. Sneakers: Sneakers are a versatile option for a more casual boat cruise party. For women, choose white canvas sneakers or slip-on sneakers that are comfortable and easy to wear. Men can opt for clean and stylish sneakers in neutral colors like white or gray to add a cool and laid-back vibe to their outfit.

5. Wedges: If you want the height of heels without sacrificing stability, wedges are a great choice. Women can opt for wedge sandals or espadrille wedges for a comfortable yet chic look. Choose wedges with a stable platform sole to ensure you can walk confidently on the boat’s deck.

Remember to consider the terrain of the boat and the level of formality when choosing your shoes. Ensure that your shoes are broken in and comfortable to prevent discomfort during the boat cruise party. By selecting the right footwear, you can complete your outfit and enjoy the celebration with ease. Now, let’s move on to the next section and explore styling tips for hair and makeup for the boat cruise party.

Styling Tips for Hair and Makeup

Completing your boat cruise party look goes beyond just choosing the right outfit and accessories. Paying attention to your hair and makeup can elevate your overall appearance and tie everything together. Here are some styling tips for hair and makeup for the boat cruise party:

  • Opt for hairstyles that can withstand a breeze and stay in place during the boat cruise. Chic hairstyles like a classic updo, a messy bun, or beachy waves are great options.
  • Consider using a sea salt spray to create beachy texture and add some volume to your hair. This will give your hair an effortless and beachy look.
  • If your boat cruise party involves water activities, consider styling your hair in braids or a ponytail to keep it out of your face and prevent it from getting wet.
  • Accessorize your hair with headbands, hair clips, or floral accessories that fit the theme of the event and add a touch of flair.
  • Opt for a lightweight and long-lasting foundation or tinted moisturizer to withstand the heat and humidity.
  • Use waterproof or smudge-proof mascara to prevent any mishaps if you’re near water or in case of sweating.
  • Keep your eye makeup simple yet elegant with neutral shades or a subtle pop of color.
  • Consider using a lip stain or a long-lasting lipstick formula to maintain a vibrant lip color throughout the boat cruise party.
  • Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s rays. Choose a lightweight sunscreen that won’t feel heavy or greasy.

Remember, the goal of your hair and makeup for a boat cruise party is to create a look that is natural, fresh, and able to withstand the elements. Keep in mind the expected weather conditions, the formality of the event, and your personal style when choosing your hair and makeup. Now, let’s move on to the next section and discuss the essential packing items for a boat cruise party.

Packing Essentials for the Boat Cruise Party

When preparing for a boat cruise party, it’s important to pack strategically to ensure you have all the essentials for a fun and enjoyable experience. Here are some packing essentials to consider:

1. Swimwear: Pack your favorite swimwear, whether it’s a bikini, a one-piece, or swim trunks. You’ll have the opportunity to take a dip or enjoy water activities during the boat cruise party, so having swimwear on hand is essential.

2. Cover-ups: Don’t forget to pack stylish cover-ups to wear over your swimwear. Choose a lightweight and breathable cover-up, such as a sarong, a kaftan, or a linen shirt, to provide some coverage when needed.

3. Sun Protection: Protecting your skin from the sun’s rays is crucial during a boat cruise. Pack sunscreen with a high SPF, sunglasses to shield your eyes, and a wide-brimmed hat to keep your face shaded. It’s also a good idea to bring a beach umbrella or a sunshade to provide extra protection on the boat’s deck.

4. Comfortable Clothing: Pack comfortable and breathable clothing for the boat cruise party. Opt for lightweight fabrics like linen, cotton, or silk that allow for easy movement and ventilation. Pack a few versatile outfits that can be mixed and matched, taking into account the expected weather conditions and the formality of the event.

5. Towel: While many boat cruises provide towels, it’s a good idea to bring your own just in case. Choose a lightweight and quick-drying towel that won’t take up much space in your bag.

6. Waterproof Bag: Keep your personal belongings dry and protected by packing them in a waterproof bag or pouch. This is especially important if you’ll be participating in water activities or if there’s a chance of splashes on the boat.

7. Medications and Toiletries: Don’t forget any essential medications you may need during the boat cruise party. Pack a small toiletry bag with travel-sized toiletries, including toothpaste, a toothbrush, facial cleanser, and any other personal care items you may need.

8. Entertainment and Gadgets: Bring along some form of entertainment, such as a book, a deck of cards, or portable speakers to enjoy music on the boat. Remember to pack your phone, camera, or any other gadgets you may want to capture memorable moments.

9. Cash and Identification: It’s always a good idea to have some cash on hand for any additional expenses during the boat cruise party. Don’t forget to bring your identification, such as a driver’s license or passport, in case it’s needed for check-in or other purposes.

10. Snacks and Refreshments: While most boat cruises provide food and refreshments, it’s a good idea to pack some snacks and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and keep hunger at bay.

By packing these essentials, you’ll be well-prepared for a fantastic boat cruise party. Remember to pack light and only bring what you truly need to avoid overpacking. Now, let’s wrap up the article.

30 Boat Party Outfits for Men That Are Stylish Yet Practical

Boat Party Outfits For Men. A boat party is one of the most expensive festivities. That said, you may be required to wear slightly fancier outfits instead of your usual go-to party getups.

The catch is that not all boat parties are created equal. Some give you the leeway to dress in slightly less formal outfits. And others allow you to decide on your own. But most boat parties are particular with dress code and style rules. And this is common in the most elite cruise parties.

So if you’ve been invited, you don’t have a choice but to adhere to these simple yet tricky key pointers.

Tips When Going On Boat Trips

  • Colors . Look for garments in pale and ocean blue, beige, white, etc. Your color combos should give off the vibe you’re holiday-ready. Stick to vibrant and primary colors when attending evening events.
  • Fabric . With just one glance at you, they should feel that you’re taking the venue and occasion well. For one, your fabric should have the resort feel in it. Invest in French button-down linen and a crisp white shirt.
  • Accessories . These little guys will separate you from the crowd. Use them to take your looks to the next level. Start with sunglasses and silk scarves in paisley prints, to name a few. I would also say “yes” to linen pocketsquares.
  • Wear nautical overalls . The nautical style is not about trends alone. The point here is that you have to don a particular aesthetic when going out for a boat trip.
  • Sunblock . Pack a lotion with sunscreen protection. Unless you want those sunburns to get in the way, put sunblock on your checklist.

What To Avoid

  • Form-fitting outfits. Expect that you’ll be spending most of your time sitting on the boat. That said, choose clothes that won’t keep you from moving. Mind that you should be comfortable enough to enjoy your trip. Stay away from tight and very short garments.
  • Overpacking . Overdressing is one thing, and overpacking is another. Remember that it’s a hassle to bring lots of unnecessary, heavy items with you. It might ruin the fun.
  • Boots . Save them for your winter dates and autumn photoshoots. Go for loafers and sneakers, instead. Flip-flops and sandals will do as well, as long as the setting permits.

Where To Buy Boat Party Outfits

Start your shopping journey in Sperry, J.Crew, and Nautica. However, your options are limited, so you are free to check products from other brands like Uniqlo, H&M, and Topman.

How Should Men Dress For A Boat Party?

We’ve already talked about the regular Boating Outfits for Men but we felt like boat parties required a special post. It’s not called a “boat party” for nothing. And it’s not every day you attend one, so make the most out of it. Like with other events and festivities, try to adhere to the theme in the best way possible. But this doesn’t mean you will go overboard.

Boat Party Outfits For Men

Do your part to keep your ensemble from looking like a costume. If you’ve never been to a boat party, I understand that things can be a bit more difficult for you. But worry not – I am here to guide you along the way!

↓ 30 – Polo Shirt

One step ahead from your daily basic tee – a polo shirt! Having a few of these in your closet is very helpful. They are essential members of your wardrobe. Stack your pile with black, navy blue, and white polo shirts. For boat trips, pair a white polo with blue nautical-themed shorts.

↓ 29 – Check Shirt

A flannel or a check shirt looks good over the water. I would recommend that you stick to minimal designs. Overkill styles might ruin the fun. Pair it with a dark-colored bottom, and voila! When it’s hot, don’t forget to roll up your sleeves.

Boat Party Outfits For Men

↓ 28 – Casual

If they are not strict with the dress code, that’s great news! But don’t take it so lightly. At the very least, consider how you match the colors. For starters, stick to contrast colors and solid hues. Try not to create a color combo that is a sight for an eyesore. Take a look at Froy Guttierez’s outfit: a stone blue tee paired with indigo board shorts.

↓ 27 – Polka Dots

It’s not a bad idea to play with prints and patterns once in a while. For one, you can don some polka-dotted shorts to show some perkiness. Wear them with a crepe pink polo shirt, and finish off the look with some sunglasses.

↓ 26 – Tailored Shorts

You might no longer be surprised to see lots of blue and white combos in this post. Let’s just say that they are regular members of the club. For one, a navy blue polo shirt looks great with cream or off-white chinos.

↓ 24 – Colorful and Playful

This is just another way to be cheerful, so why waste it? Express it through your outfits by wearing flashy colors. You can start with bright hues like yellow, orange, and red. And if you’re up for something all-out, a rainbow-inspired garment is for you!

What To Wear On Boat Trips 30

↓ 23 – Windbreaker

Jackets and coats are one thing, but windbreakers are another! This is your best companion during chilly night boat parties. Expect that you’re going to need one of these in winter and fall. For your convenience, opt for products made of materials that can stand the rigors of any weather condition.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 1

↓ 22 – Striped Outfit

If you have a vertically striped shirt, pair it with white chinos. Finish off the look with some blue boat shoes to complement the overall style. No socks are needed! A statement belt would help to elevate your ensemble. Rolling up the sleeves would also add up to your fashion game.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 2

↓ 21 – Yacht Club Attire

Strive to look preppy as much as possible when you are headed for a yacht club party. Your essentials for this look are an unstructured blazer, a tie, and a crisp white button-down ironed to perfection. Pay attention to minor yet crucial details — collars must be stiff, and your hairstyle should be on point. Your best bet: go for a slicked-back style.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 3

↓ 20 – Neckerchief

A neckerchief is a worthy addition to the team. It can amp up your ensemble, no matter how simple it is. Red is your best bet here, but black will do just the same. Consider color coordination before wearing this ornament. Also, it’s called “neckerchief” for a reason, so don’t tie it somewhere else.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 4

↓ 19 – Sunglasses

If a boat trip is your thing, sunglasses are part of your essentials. As funny as it sounds, but you can’t last a day without them. Being stylish aside, functionality will matter, especially in summer when the sun can get really bright, and its heat might burn your face and eyes. Consider yourself warned!

What To Wear On Boat Trips 5

↓ 18 – Panama Hat

Grab your Panama hats and brim hats for summer and spring. For winter and fall, keep your beanies close.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 6

↓ 17 – Pocketsquare

Be it single or square fold — you recognize a pocketsquare when you see one. It has the same effect as neckerchieves — both of them can do some color pop. Having one pocketsquare or two is a great idea. Let’s say your outfit is missing something, then this little piece of clothing could help.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 7

↓ 16 – Statement Belt

The rule of thumb here is to pair it with simple outfits. Avoid combining too many colors to avoid clashing. This can easily catch others’ attention, so be careful in choosing the design as it can make or break your outfit. Spice up your look and choose a bright color. It would pop and let it be the focal point of your outfit.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 26

↓ 15 – White Pants

A boat trip is relaxing, and your choice of trousers shouldn’t say otherwise. Go for less or unstructured linen trousers in navy or cream.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 8

↓ 14 – Seersucker

Seersucker or “railroad stripe,” is a thin fabric made of 100% cotton. This look is perfect for sailing, and it makes an outfit more interesting. If you find your fit boring, then it’s time to grab that seersucker to make some magic!

What To Wear On Boat Trips 10

↓ 13 – Jacket

Ditch the heavy types, and opt for lightly tailored ones. Jackets or blazers are a great way to experiment with bolder patterns and textures. Here’s my detailed guide on Types of Jackets for Men & How to Them.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 10

↓ 12 – Shorts

It’s most likely that boat trips are held in summer. And that entails the leeway to don above the knee clothes like shorts. Longer or baggier styles will make the proportion seem off.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 12

↓ 11 – Mandarin Collar

Not your ordinary button-down! The shirt’s distinct collars called “mandarin” make the shirt more interesting. And see how the absence of typical collars makes a difference. Wear it with chinos or jeans, and don’t forget to cuff them. Now, this may not be for every man. If you don’t feel like it, stick to your typical white shirts.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 13

↓ 10 – Crisp White Shirt

Think of a boat party like your first date. Dress as preppy as you can, but try not to look so formal, though. A crisp white shirt is a surefire way to start. Pair it with some trousers in blue: navy or Aegean are recommended for such a setting. Never leave your shirt untucked as it would look sloppy, which will therefore ruin the preppy look.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 14

↓ 9 – All-White Boat Party Outfits

Nothing beats the versatility of white for its classic look. I mean, no one’s ever been a laughingstock for being in an all-white outfit. Just be careful not to overdo it. A helpful tip: break the dullness by incorporating other contrast colors like brown or black. And you can do it through your footwear or accessories.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 31

↓ 8 – Cruise Party Outfit Ideas

If your cruise party is rather casual, wear a crisp white shirt (preferably linen for summer and spring). Your usual Oxford button-down would do just as fine. Team it up with some chino shorts.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 32

↓ 7 – Footwear Choice

Choose from loafers, boat shoes, and flip-flops. Sneakers are also acceptable, but it would be on a case-to-case basis. But not all boat parties accept them per the dress code. If unsure, leave them at the streetwear scene. Avoid any type of boots at all costs – save them for your winter dates.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 11

↓ 6 – For Plus-Size Men

Wear anything you want. But if you want to look less broad just a little bit, opt for vertical stripes. Flannels are also your best bet. Ditch lousy and baggy fits as they will make you appear bigger. Simple fashion tricks like tucking in your shirt your pants will help you achieve a fashion-forward look.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 16

↓ 5 – For Mature Men

Older men should stick to solid hues and contrast colors as much as possible. As we know it, brighter shades don’t look good in all adult gents. So when in doubt, opt for black, blue, and white. Leave brown for your accessories like belts and shoes.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 17

↓ 4 – For Skinny Men

Not that it’s wrong to be skinny. But if you want to look slightly broader, opt for horizontal stripes. Also, men with slim body types steer clear of ill-fitting clothes. And it’s important to be aware of your body measurements.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 22

↓ 3 – For Short Guys

Short guys should look for vertical stripes. The style rules for plus-size gents apply here. Take note that check shirts look great in shorter men as well. And at any cost, avoid oversized shirts and below-the-knee shorts. You can also cuff your pants and roll up the sleeves to create some lengthening effect.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 21

↓ 2 – Monochrome

To get this style right, team up outfits of a similar shade together. And do not go overboard by pushing yourself to wear clothes with the exact same shades. Double denim is also a big no-no.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 18

↓ 1 – Minimalist

If you are a fan of minimalism, wear the simplest outfit combos you can think of. For starters, the fewer prints and patterns your clothes have, the better. And leave those unnecessary accessories at home.

What To Wear On Boat Trips 20

I hope you liked these picks. If you’re still confused, that’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up. And don’t forget that it often comes down to how you pair your outfits.

Never overlook the fit and fabric as they are essential building blocks of your wardrobe. Also, colors and prints would say a lot about your getup. Mix, match, and try every combo you can think of. It’s not a crime to experiment and explore.

Deciding Your Cruise Party Attire

When preparing for a boat cruise party, it’s essential to consider the occasion and dress appropriately. Your outfit not only reflects your personal style but also sets the tone for the event. Here are some tips to help you decide on the perfect cruise party attire.

Firstly, consider the formality level of the event. Is it a casual affair or a more formal gathering? Knowing the expected dress code will provide you with guidance on what is appropriate. For formal parties, opt for elegant clothing such as a dress or pantsuit for women and a suit or dress shirt with trousers for men. If it’s a casual party, you can be more relaxed with your outfit choices, such as wearing a summer dress or khaki pants with a collared shirt.

Secondly, think about your personal style and comfort level. While it’s important to adhere to the dress code, you should also feel confident and comfortable in what you wear. Experiment with different styles and find something that suits your taste while still aligning with the formality level of the event.

Additionally, consider the time of day of the party boat cruise. Daytime events tend to be more laid-back and call for lighter and breezier outfits, like sundresses or linen shirts. Evening parties create an opportunity to dress up a bit more with cocktail dresses or tailored blazers.

Lastly, be mindful of accessories and footwear . Hats and sunglasses not only add style to your ensemble but also provide protection against UV rays when you’re out on the water. Comfortable footwear is also crucial as you may be climbing in and out of the boat. Consider opting for water-resistant shoes like flip flops or boat shoes.

Remember, above all else, confidence is key when it comes to fashion choices. Don’t be afraid to express yourself through your outfit while ensuring it aligns with the occasion and venue.

Consider the Setting and Weather

When attending a boat cruise party, considering the setting and weather is essential in determining your outfit choices. Dressing appropriately for the environment ensures both comfort and style throughout the event.

The setting of the boat cruise party plays a significant role in deciding your attire. Is it a casual gathering on a lake or a more formal event on an ocean cruise ship? Understanding the location will guide you in selecting suitable clothing. For example, if it’s a relaxed party on a lake, you can opt for casual beachwear like swimsuits with coverups or shirts, paired with shorts or lightweight pants. On the other hand, a formal event on a cruise ship may call for more elegant attire such as cocktail dresses or dressy separates.

Alongside the setting, weather conditions are crucial to consider. If the party takes place during summer months when it gets hot, prioritize lightweight and breathable fabrics to stay cool. Cotton, linen, and chiffon are ideal choices that allow air circulation and minimize discomfort caused by sweat. Additionally, keep in mind that being on water can be breezy, so carrying a light sweater or jacket is advisable in case temperatures drop unexpectedly.

Imagine attending a boat cruise party on a sunny day at Lake Travis in Texas during the summer. You might decide to wear a stylish one-piece swimsuit with a colorful coverup, accessorized with sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and comfortable flip flops. This ensemble not only protects you from the bright sunlight reflecting off the water but also exudes confidence and beach-ready vibes.

Remember to check the specific guidelines provided by the organizers if any regarding dress code or any additional considerations related to the setting and weather. Their recommendations may offer further insights into what would be appropriate for the event.

By taking into account both the setting and weather of the boat cruise party, you can create an ensemble that balances style, comfort, and practicality.

Know the Event’s Formality Level

When attending a boat cruise party, it’s important to dress appropriately for the occasion. The first step in curating your outfit is to determine the formality level of the event. Is it a casual gathering or a more formal affair? Knowing this will help guide your fashion choices and ensure you feel comfortable while looking stylish.

It may seem like a no-brainer, but understanding the event’s formality level will save you from potential fashion mishaps. A casual boat party might call for more relaxed attire, such as shorts and a t-shirt or a summer dress. On the other hand, a formal boat party may require a more elegant ensemble, such as pants and a button-down shirt for men, or a dress for women. By knowing the expected dress code, you can avoid feeling underdressed or overdressed.

Consider researching the venue and any specific guidelines provided by the hosts. Are there any themes or special instructions to follow? Perhaps the event has a specific style or ambiance that should influence your outfit choices. Taking the time to understand these details will allow you to create a look that aligns with the overall vibe of the boat cruise party.

For example, imagine you are attending a luxurious yacht party on Lake Travis. The invitation indicates that it’s an upscale affair with a “Gatsby Glam” theme. In this case, gentlemen might opt for tailored suits paired with stylish accessories like suspenders and fedora hats. Ladies could choose elegant cocktail dresses or flowy gowns embellished with sequins and pearls. Knowing the formality level and theme helps you make confident decisions when selecting your boat party outfit.

Remember that while it’s important to follow the event’s dress code, it’s also an opportunity to show off your personal style and creativity. Feel free to add your own unique touch through accessories, colors, and patterns that reflect your taste and personality. The goal is to strike a balance between adhering to the formality level and expressing yourself through fashion.

With a clear understanding of the event’s formality level, let’s dive into some stylish outfit ideas for a cruise party. Whether you’re going for a casual or chic look, these suggestions will help you put together a fashionable ensemble that ensures you stand out on the water.

Stylish Outfit Ideas for Cruise Party

For a casual boat party, opt for a relaxed yet fashionable ensemble. Start with comfortable and water-resistant footwear such as flip-flops or boat shoes, as you’ll be moving in and out of the boat. Pair them with shorts or a summer skirt in light, breathable fabrics like linen or cotton. Add a stylish swimsuit and complement it with a shirt or cover-up to transition from swimming to socializing. Complete your look with accessories like hats and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun’s rays while adding flair to your outfit.

If the boat cruise party leans towards semi-formal or formal attire, elevate your style with sophisticated clothing choices. Men can don dress pants paired with collared shirts, opting for pastel tones or classic white for a refined touch. Consider layering with lightweight blazers or sport coats for added elegance. Women can choose cocktail dresses that flatter their body shape and suit the occasion. Opt for flowy materials, vibrant colors, or bold prints that capture the essence of being on the water. Enhance your outfit with statement jewelry, elegant heels, and a clutch to tie everything together.

Remember to consider practicality along with style when selecting your boat cruise party outfit. Bring along a change of clothes in case unexpected circumstances arise during the event, such as rain or cooler temperatures. Additionally, wearing sunscreen is essential to protect exposed areas from the bright sunlight reflecting off the water.

Now that we’ve explored different outfit ideas for a boat cruise party, you’re ready to make a splash with your fabulous fashion choices.

From Casual to Chic: Clothing Ideas

When it comes to choosing the perfect outfit for a boat cruise party, there are numerous options that can take you from casual to chic, depending on the formality of the event.

For a more casual boat party, consider opting for comfortable yet fashionable attire. A simple sundress in a bright color or floral print paired with sandals can create a relaxed and summery vibe. Alternatively, you could go for a lightweight jumpsuit or romper that allows ease of movement while keeping you cool. Pair it with some statement earrings and a wide-brimmed hat to elevate your look.

If the boat party has a semi-formal dress code, you might want to dress up a bit more without sacrificing comfort. A maxi dress or a flowy skirt with a blouse can strike the perfect balance between elegance and ease. Add some strappy heels and delicate jewelry to complete the sophisticated ensemble. Remember to bring along a light jacket or shawl in case the ocean breeze gets chilly during the evening.

Now, if you’re attending a formal boat party, it’s time to step up your game and embrace elegant attire. Men can opt for tailored pants paired with a button-down shirt and loafers for a classic and polished look. Women, on the other hand, may want to don an evening gown or cocktail dress in luxurious fabrics such as silk or chiffon. Add some heels, statement jewelry, and an elegant clutch for an ensemble that exudes glamour and sophistication.

Remember, these are just general ideas as boat party dress codes may vary based on the event’s theme or host’s preferences. Always check any mentioned guidelines or recommendations beforehand.

Choosing the Right Accessories for Your Outfit

Accessories play a crucial role in completing your boat cruise party outfit and adding that extra touch of style. From shoes to jewelry to headgear, let’s explore some tips on how to choose the right accessories to enhance your overall look.

  • Shoes: When it comes to footwear for a boat party, comfort and functionality are key. Opt for comfortable and water-resistant options such as flip flops or boat shoes that are easy to slip on and off and provide good traction on wet surfaces. If you’re looking to add a touch of glamour, consider metallic or embellished sandals. Just make sure they are suitable for walking and dancing.
  • Jewelry: Don’t be afraid to let your jewelry shine during a boat party. However, keep in mind that excessive or oversized pieces can become cumbersome in the lively environment on deck. Opt for statement earrings or delicate necklaces that won’t get tangled up in the wind or hinder your movements. Consider choosing jewelry with nautical-inspired elements like anchor motifs or seashells for a thematic touch.
  • Headgear: Protecting yourself from the bright sunlight reflecting off the water is important, so don’t forget to wear a stylish hat. A wide-brimmed straw hat not only provides shade but also adds a fashionable twist to your outfit. You can also accessorize with a headscarf tied in a chic knot or opt for a trendy cap if it matches the overall style you’re going for.

Remember, accessories are meant to complement your outfit, so choose pieces that align with your personal style and enhance the overall look without overpowering it. Experiment with different combinations and have fun showcasing your individuality while adhering to any mentioned dress codes.

Shoes, Jewelry and Headgear

When it comes to attending a boat cruise party, you want to strike the right balance between style and practicality with your choice of shoes, jewelry, and headgear. Starting with footwear, it’s important to opt for comfortable and water-resistant options. Climbing in and out of the boat requires shoes that can withstand some water splashing or slipping on wet surfaces. Flip flops or boat shoes are popular choices that provide both comfort and functionality. Just make sure they have a good grip to prevent any accidents.

Moving on to jewelry, simplicity is key on a boat party. Avoid wearing expensive or delicate pieces that could easily be lost or damaged. Instead, opt for minimalistic accessories such as a pair of hoop earrings or a simple necklace that can complement your outfit without being too flashy. Remember that you’ll be in close proximity to water, so it’s best to leave your precious gems and valuable items at home to avoid any mishaps.

Let’s imagine you’re attending an elegant sunset boat party where the dress code is semi-formal. Pairing your outfit with a stylish wide-brimmed hat not only adds an element of sophistication but also provides protection against the sun’s rays. A floppy straw hat or a classy fedora can elevate your look while shielding your face from harmful UV radiation.

“I always bring my favorite wide-brimmed hat when attending boat parties. It adds a touch of glamour to my outfit while keeping my face shaded from the sun. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter!” – Emma, avid boat party-goer.

Remember that different boat parties may have varying dress codes, so consider the formality level when selecting your shoes, jewelry, and headgear. For more casual gatherings, flip flops, dainty anklets, and a stylish baseball cap could be more fitting. Don’t be afraid to showcase your personal style, but always keep practicality in mind amidst the nautical setting.

Protecting Yourself: Sunblock and More

While boat cruise parties offer a perfect ambiance for celebration and fun, it’s essential to protect yourself from the elements. The bright sunlight reflecting off the water can intensify UV exposure, making sun protection a top priority during your time on the boat. Don’t let harsh sunburns ruin your experience or put your long-term skin health at risk.

Applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF is crucial to shield your exposed skin from harmful UV rays. Make sure to cover all areas that are not protected by clothing, including face, neck, arms, and legs. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially if you’ve been swimming or sweating profusely.

“I learned my lesson the hard way after getting a terrible sunburn during a boat party last summer. Ever since then, I religiously apply sunscreen before stepping on board. It’s become an essential part of my pre-party routine.” – James, frequent boat party attendee.

In addition to sunblock, it’s wise to bring along other protective accessories such as sunglasses and hats. Sunglasses will shield your eyes from intense sunlight and reduce glare off the water’s surface. Opt for a pair with polarized lenses for the best protection and improved visibility on the water.

Lastly, it’s always a good idea to have a lightweight cover-up or a sweatshirt on hand in case the weather turns cooler during the party or if there is unexpected rain. Being prepared will ensure you stay comfortable throughout the event.

( If you decide to go beyond partying on a boat to living on a boat, then here are the best boats to live in year-round and enjoy every moment of it. )

It can be a difficult and complex process for someone that has never been to a boat party to know the best outfit.

With the classic arrangement of a cruise boat party, everyone will like to be at their best and not fall short of a fashion mistake. Based on the schedule and magnitude of the event, it is evident that the outfit of boat parties will differ.

For instance, the outfit for a dinner or business party will always be different from a cocktail or dance event. In this article, you will discover the right outfit for a cruise boat party.

Here are some other ideas for outfits you should wear to a boat party:

Cocktail Boat Party Outfit

If you are invited to this monumental event onboard, the first thing that comes to mind is wearing the right outfit.

Cocktail Boat Party Outfit

Without any iota of doubt, a mixture of business and casual wear will work well for a cocktail boat party.

Nevertheless, some cruise boat organizers may also lay out certain fashion rules to follow either for a night or day party.

Night: For night cocktail cruise parties, men can wear their smart coats or suits. This is because men usually fall on the formal angle of things. In most cases, men may require a black tie to match.

Women tend to blow out on mini outfits with Skechers BOBS Women’s Plush-Wag Flat Party footwear . To get the job done, a clutch and a chic blazer will be the most appropriate for women attending cocktail boat parties. Paring a blouse and suit can as well be a great outfit.

Daytime: Cocktail boat parties during the day can be outstanding if you know the right-wear to blend in. I recommend the Houstil Women’s Cocktail Party Dress .

Men can wear slacks with a jacket or a smart coat or GuyTalk Formal Party Suit . Solid or printed shirts combined with a smooth tie will give you a nice look. When planning for a daytime cocktail boat party, men can also try the combination of a blazer and Khakis.

Knee-length outfits  will always make a woman charming for a cocktail cruise boat party. When dressing for a cocktail boat party as a woman ensure to keep your knee leveled and don’t accessorize too much.

Dinner Boat Party Outfit

Without any iota of doubt, dinner parties usually fall at night-time. This means that guests can simply take off their minds from the timing of the event.

A dinner boat party can either be a casual, semi-formal, or formal occasion. If you are invited to a festive dinner boat party, then it is important to stick with the traditional fashion sense.

Dinner Boat Party Outfit

For men, a blazer, and printed shirts combined with slacks will go well. Another great idea for men going to a dinner cruise boat part is Khakis.

When it comes to a loose sequined outfit for dinner boat parties, women will never go wrong. A summer dress or gown is another option that a woman can wear. Matching and combining a wrap-around along with a flowing skirt remains a great idea.

Speaking of dinner on a boat, here are 10 dinners on a boat idea you will ‘live’ to remember

Dance Cruise Boat Party Wear

There is always a high-class taste of glamour when it comes to a boat party. First, the venue is designed to suit the taste and desires of the invitee.

Dance Cruise Boat Party Wear

However, it is often a casual fashion sense that flows in most cruise parties. The glam quotient usually acts as the normal model for high-class night parties.

A party where people dance on a cruise boat will expose you to a plethora of fashion senses on the sea.

Night: Dress shirts and comfortable slacks are great for an event of this nature. Remember, if the organizer specifies a unique fashion code, then go along with it.

To handle the chill at night, men can pair it up with a classic jacket . The party outfit will be complete if you wear normal leather shoes having a strong grip.

Owing to the comfort and classy appeal of women, frilly skirts, and flowing gowns are great choices. Women can also pair the outfit with a sequined jacket or a wrap. Select classic flat-boating shoes and avoid wearing heels.

Daytime: In most cases, men can wear the same dress they used for night dance boat parties during the day as well.

Nevertheless, leaning towards an outfit that is not sharp but more casual will make men unleash a prominent personality.

Both short and long flowing skirts will match a woman swiftly when attending a daytime dance boat party. This outfit can be paired with tops or a convenient wrap and summer clothes can as well be great.

Business Boat Party Wear

In real-time, a business party often comes with additional formal activities. On a cruise boat, business parties often take place in a casual and relaxed setting.

boat cruise outfit male

With this idea, partners in business will have to get rid of any stuffy formal outfits and put on a professional look.

Business party outfits for a cruise boat have almost the same fashion sense both during the day and at night.

A formal tie and suit remain great for men. The normal office outfit will work well for women. A blazer and trousers paired with a good blouse remain a perfect business party on the boat. Pantsuits, a pencil skirt, and tailored dress will not make women go wrong.

Boat Party Outfit When It’s Cold

On a cold boat party, women can wear a chiffon skirt, clutch, and leather leggings and combine them with a cardigan to shield from the tough climatic condition. I recommend the Urban CoCo Chiffon Solid Beach Maxi Skirt .

Boat Party Outfit When It's Cold

Men can simply maintain a thick Khaki or jeans and combine them with a black jacket. Both men and when should cover their legs with thick and tough shoes.

Boat Party Outfit In 70-degree Weather

At seventy degrees, the weather is too hot and people may find it difficult to wear any formal clothes.  Wearing simple and exposable sportswear will favor both men and women.

Women can as well go for shorts or near the keen jeans and a light t-shirt. See our recommended Baleaf Women’s Long-Sleeve T-Shirt .

General Boat Party Outfit Tips:

  • For evening events, primary and vibrant colors remain the best.
  • Form-fitting outfits should be avoided at all costs.

Watch:Crazy moment Doncaster man on Nile cruise buys clothes from men in boat

This is the incredible moment a Doncaster man on a Nile cruise struck a deal with two men who sold him clothes from a boat alongside his moving ship – in a viral TikTok video which has been seen more than four million times.

Holidaymaker Terry Hill, who dubs himself the Donny Knight, was enjoyed a cruise along the River Nile in Egypt when two men in a bright blue rowing boat pulled alongside the ship and attempted to flog him traditional Egyptian clothing.

And after some bartering and the clothing being hurled into his cabin from below, Terry landed himself a bargain – netting the traditional outfit for just £10.

The clip has since gone viral, with millions of views around the globe.

Terry, who became an internet sensation at the 2018 World Cup when he was filmed performing a daredevil leap from a bus stop in Silver Street dressed as a knight during England post match victory celebrations, was enjoying the view of the river from his balcony bedroom when two men approached the side of the boat.

After securing their boat to the cruise ship, the men began trying to sell him clothing, saying they had a great deal on a Jellabiya - a traditional Egyptian robe.

Posting to TikTok, he explained: 'I'm in my room and someone is shouting up at the window. They've hooked up to the cruise ship.”

The men on the ship then model the clothes they are trying to sell, explaining that there are two pieces and the robe is available in black and white.

'What on earth are you doing?' Mr Hill asks, before the man throws the robe into his room.

After some bartering back and forth, the pair strike a deal for £10 – and he is then filmed chucking the bag of cash back to the rower, before they travel across the river to another cruise ship.

Terry from Balby also went viral in 2021 as England reached the final of Euro 2020 – organising a horseback parade around Corfu dressed in his Donny Knight costume.

He also took to the skies for a parasailing voyage ahead of England’s defeat by Italy.

Holidaymaker Terry Hill struck a bargain with two men who pulled up alongside his cruise ship to sell him clothes.

VANCOUVER,Canada -- Several people were injured after a seaplane collided with a boat in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

Citing a statement from Harbour Air, local outlet Vancouver Sun reported that all five passengers and pilot aboard the aircraft were uninjured and safe, while all passengers aboard the boat were accounted for.

Two people on the boat had to be hospitalized, according to ABC News.

Investigators say that area of the harbor where the crash occurred is supposed to be reserved for seaplane operations.

A full investigation into the cause of the collision was underway, VPD said on Saturday.

ABC News contributed to this report.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

boat cruise outfit male

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

boat cruise outfit male

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

boat cruise outfit male

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Different epochs

Taking a walk along the Moscow River by boat, you will witness the architecture of Moscow from different eras and styles. Archaeological studies indicate that already in the XI century there stood a fortified settlement on Borovitsky hill, which is now called the Kremlin. Little fortress could not accommodate all the residents of the rapidly growing city, and the Grand Duke ordered the construction of a new Kremlin, larger than the former.

Boat trip around Kolomenskoe Park

The tour starts from the pier Klenovy (Maple) Boulevard and provides reat views of Nicholas Perervinsky monastery.

Nicholas Perervinsky monastery was founded during the Battle of Kulikov in about 1380. The monastery, got its name from the surrounding area – “Pererva”, which can be translated like “tear off” and because of the location –  here the river abruptly changed its course, turning to Kolomna, which was on the opposite bank.

Nowadays Kolomenskoye is State Art, Historical, Architectural and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve, which doors are open to everyone who wants to get in touch with the ancient history of Russia.

Take a break from the big city hustle in the shady parks and gardens of the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. Don’t miss a wonderful Church of the Ascension and Tsar Alexey’s Palace in Kolomenskoye!

Downtown of Moscow and Moscow river

Church of St. Nicholas in Khamovniki.

The banks of the Moscow River are decorated with numerous monasteries and temples.

Novospassky Monastery

It was founded in the thirteenth century on the spot where now stands the Danilovsky monastery (near Tulskaya metro station). After a few decades, in 1330, Ivan Kalita transferred the monastery on the Borovitskii hill of the Kremlin. However, in the fifteenth century, Spassky Monastery again moved, this time to a more spacious place on Krasnoholmskaya waterfront.

Church of St. Nicholas in Zayaitskom

Church of St. Nicholas was built in the middle of the XVIII century in baroque style. During the fire of 1812 the building survived, but the utensils were looted. Parishioners gathered donations and restored the temple. In Soviet times, it was closed and opened again only in 1992.

Cathedral of Christ the Savior

The previous church was erected in honor of the victory over Napoleon’s troops and was under construction for almost 44 years, but was demolished in 1937. The current building was constructed in 1994-1997. It is the tallest Orthodox church in the world and one of the largest.

The temple was built during the reign of Tsar Fedor Alekseevich in 1679-82 in late Muscovite  Baroque style and can be characterized as bonfire temple. Each gable is a symbol of a heavenly fire.

Novodevichy Convent

One of the most famous monasteries in Moscow presumably founded in 1524. Novodevichy’s status among other monasteries was high enough, it was in this monastery where the women of the royal blood, the wives of Tsars and local rulers of Moscow were kept in prison as nuns.

St. Andrew’s church

(male acts as Compound Patriarch of Moscow)

St. Andrew’s church stands right on the slopes of the Sparrow Hills, on the way down to the Moscow River, on the territory of the Nature Reserve “Sparrow Hills”. The monastery is small in size but is very cozy. It’s situated in a quiet courtyard surrounded by temples, fruit trees and flowers.

Demi Moore on Full Frontal Nudity With Margaret Qualley in ‘The Substance’: ‘A Very Vulnerable Experience’ but I Had a ‘Great Partner Who I Felt Very Safe With’

CANNES, FRANCE - MAY 19: Demi Moore and her dog Pilaf attend a photocall at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival at the Carlton Cannes Hotel on May 19, 2024 in Cannes, France. (Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)

Demi Moore ‘s new film, the feminist body horror “ The Substance ,” sees her bare it all, with several scenes featuring full nudity. At the Cannes Film Festival press conference for the film on Monday, the 61-year-old actor discussed the “vulnerable experience.”

“Going into it, it was really spelled out — the level of vulnerability and rawness that was really required to tell the story,” Moore said. “And it was a very vulnerable experience and just required a lot of sensitivity and a lot of conversation about what we were trying to accomplish.”

As the film progresses, Moore becomes horribly disfigured thanks to the abuse her other half Qualley is inflicting on her. By the film’s last act, she quite resembles Anjelica Huston from the 1990 film “The Witches,” after she transforms into a humpback abomination.

Dennis Quaid also stars in the film as an “asshole,” as he described his character during the presser. The late Ray Liotta was meant to have the role before his passing in May 2022, and Quaid dedicated his performance to him.

“In my heart, I dedicated this role to Ray Liotta, who was set to play it,” Quaid said. “It was this week, two years ago that he passed, so I’d like to remember him. He was such an incredible actor.”

Cannes went wild for “The Substance” at its premiere on Sunday night, giving the film an 11-minute standing ovation , the longest of the fest so far.

In an interview with Variety , the French director discussed the film’s feminist themes, saying that body horror is “the perfect vehicle to express the violence all these women’s issues are about.”

With an undercurrent of #MeToo at this year’s festival as the movement grows in France, Fargeat hopes the film will shine even more light on the issue. “It’s a little stone in the huge wall we still have to build regarding this issue, and to be honest, I hope my film will also be one of the stones of that wall. That’s really what I intended to do with it.”

That's the end of our coverage today, but we'll be back with more updates and analysis on the war in Ukraine soon.

If you're just checking in, here is a recap of the key developments today.

  • Vladimir Putin made his first trip to North Korea in 24 years, where he and Kim Jong Un signed an agreement pledging mutual aid if either country faces "aggression";
  • The Russian leader was then received in Vietnam, where he will be continue a state visit tomorrow;
  • Russia has been attempting to replace "significant losses" by recruiting soldiers from African countries, the UK's defence ministry said;
  • Germany held up the 14th package of EU sanctions on Russia, sources said.

Vladimir Putin has undertaken two state visits today, in North Korea and Vietnam, as he seeks to shore up support from his allies while the West pursues further sanctions.

In an opinion piece timed for his Vietnam visit, Vladimir Putin has applauded the country for supporting "a pragmatic way to solve the crisis" in Ukraine.

Vietnam, which officially pursues a neutral foreign policy, has abstained from condemning Russia's invasion.

As well as praising Vietnam for its "balanced" stance on the war, Mr Putin listed progress on payments, energy and trade between the countries in the article published in Vietnam's Communist Party newspaper Nhan Dan.

"Putin's visit to North Korea and Vietnam is to demonstrate that Western attempts to isolate Russia are not working and that Russia has partners in Asia," said Carl Thayer, an expert on Vietnam security at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra.

The Southeast Asian country will be the third nation Mr Putin has visited, after China and North Korea, since he was sworn in for a fifth term in May.

"No country should give Putin a platform to promote his war of aggression and otherwise allow him to normalise his atrocities," a spokesperson for the US embassy in Hanoi said this week.

Russia has historically been Vietnam's major military supplier, so any potential arms deals will be closely watched.

Vietnam has been gearing up for a full state welcome for the Russian leader's first visit since 2017 and his fifth in total.

Vladimir Putin has arrived in Vietnam, Russian news agency RIA-Novosti reports.

It is a state visit aimed at strengthening ties with a longtime partner of Moscow's.

In Hanoi, the Russian leader is scheduled to meet Vietnam's most powerful politician, Communist Party general secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, then the new president, To Lam, and other politicians.

The trip has resulted in a sharp rebuke from the US embassy in Hanoi.

It comes after Mr Putin's first trip to North Korea in 24 years, where he and Kim Jong Un signed an agreement pledging mutual aid if either country faces "aggression".

Germany is holding up the 14th package of EU sanctions on Russia, sources say.

Officials from the bloc's 27 countries have been debating the package for over a month, which would make EU operators responsible for sanctions violations by subsidiaries and partners.

Germany's hesitation was due in part to an internal disagreement between its foreign ministry and the chancellor's office, diplomats and a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The roadblock remained despite the scrapping of a clause that Berlin found problematic - one that would have forced subsidiaries to "contractually prohibit re-exportation to Russia and re-exportation for use in Russia".

The EU's sanctions efforts have been undermined by circumvention via third countries. The inclusion of this clause would have further tightened the bloc's measures.

Ambassadors will continue the debate tomorrow, they said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced two more signatures have been added to his Peace Summit communique.

He said the Organisation of American States, which represents countries in North and South America, and Antigua and Barbuda have signed it.

"We view the entire world as equals, and this is our ideological difference from Russia in international relations," the Ukrainian president said.

"Putin, however, wants only his voice to matter, or those he chooses. This is a typically colonial world view that we, together with all our partners, must break."

He said the format of the Peace Summit will ensure "fair treatment for every nation", including, of course, Ukraine.

Nearly 80 countries have already approved the final communique covering steps toward nuclear safety, food security, and the release of prisoners and deportees, including thousands of children abducted by Russia.

One person has been killed and three others have been injured in a Russian shelling attack in Donetsk, Ukraine's police force has said.

In a post on Telegram, it said there had been 2,291 strikes in the eastern region in the last 24 hours.

Russia used "aviation, rocket salvo systems and artillery", it added.

Over the past few months, fighting has been surging across the frontline in the eastern Donetsk region.

Russian forces have been trying to reach the key hilltop city of Chasiv Yar and other strategic hubs in the region.

Russian troops also launched an offensive in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region.

Mr Putin said he wanted to establish a buffer zone there to prevent Ukrainian cross-border attacks.

The offensive drew some Ukrainian fighters away from Donetsk, but many remain.

Reuters captured these photos of Ukraine troops operating in the area.

Russia has been attempting to replace "significant losses" by recruiting soldiers from African countries, the UK's defence ministry has said.

Ukrainian intelligence has been reporting increased Russian efforts to recruit from several African countries in recent days.

"This recruitment campaign is likely an attempt to replace significant battlefield losses and sustain offensive activity across the front," the MoD said.

"Russia is likely expanding its recruitment across the global south to avoid additional mobilisations within Russian itself."

It added that previous mobilisations within Russia had resulted in a record labour shortage and the mass departure of skilled workers.

Vladimir Putin's visit to North Korea has come to an end, with the Russian president leaving Pyongyang after a busy day of diplomacy.

His next stop is Vietnam.

The headline from Mr Putin's visit is no doubt the agreement signed between the two countries that, its leaders say, covers security, trade, investment and cultural and humanitarian ties among other things.

The deal has triggered plenty of reaction from around the world, with Washington and Seoul among those expressing concern about the growing military ties between Russia and North Korea.

Below, we've taken a look at exactly how Mr Putin's visit shaped up.

Opening remarks

The warm words between the Kremlin and Pyongyang started before Mr Putin's plane had even touched down, with the Russian leader penning an open letter in North Korean state media.

It was here that we first got confirmation of an agreement that would be signed by the two countries. Mr Putin called it a partnership that would help in the "fight against the imperialist hegemonistic policies of the US and its satellites against the Russian Federation".

There was also some appreciation shown for North Korea's "firm support" for Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Mr Putin claimed the US were doing everything they could to "prolong and inflame" the conflict, which Russia began in February 2022.

'Rock star' welcome in Pyongyang

When Mr Putin arrived in Pyongyang in the early hours of the morning, he was met personally by Kim Jong Un, a red carpet and a bouquet of roses.

State television then showed his motorcade driving through brightly lit neighbourhoods, with the 105-storey Ryugyong Hotel glowing with LED lights that said "Welcome Putin".

The streets of the capital were lined with hundreds of thousands of people holding flowers and waving Russian and North Korean flags, welcoming Mr Putin back on to North Korean soil for the first time in 24 years.

There was then a lavish ceremony in Pyongyang's main square, crowded with people and colourful decorations, where Mr Kim introduced key members of the North Korean leadership.

As a military band played, the two leaders walked down another red carpet and greeted dignitaries. Artillery guns fired a welcoming salvo.

As our Asia correspondent Nicole Johnston put it, North Korea gave Mr Putin "a rock star's welcome".

The 'comprehensive strategic partnership pact'

Fundamental to this trip for both Russia and North Korea is the document signed by the two nations, which both of its leaders have been at pains to describe in bold terms.

Mr Kim calls it the "strongest ever treaty", while for Mr Putin, it's a "breakthrough document".

The two leaders were first joined by ministers from both countries for initial talks. They then engaged in one-on-one talks that lasted two hours, according to reports.

This new agreement marks a new period of relations between the two countries, one that, according to North Korea's leader, is "incomparable".

It reportedly covers everything from investment to strengthening cultural ties and cooperating on health, medical education and science.

But it's the inclusion of a mutual defence clause, in case of "aggression", as Mr Putin put it, that stands out.

Mr Kim told reporters that North Korea will respond "without hesitation" to "incidents or wars" facing either his country or Russia.

He did not elaborate on what the response will entail, though he did say the agreement is "defensive and peaceful in nature".

Russia also doesn't rule out the "development" of military-technical cooperation between the two nations.

There's already an assumption that North Korea is sending Russia ammunition to use in Ukraine, while there are fears that Moscow will pass on aid for Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programmes in return.

The signing of this agreement will do little to subdue those concerns.

Gifts and goodbyes

With business out the way, Mr Putin and Mr Kim spent the next few hours having a bit of fun.

There was the exchanging of gifts, with the Russian leader receiving works of art depicting himself.

For Mr Kim there was a tea set, an admiral's dirk (a type of dagger) and a Russian-built limousine, which both leaders took turns at driving.

Mr Putin then laid a wreath at the Liberation monument in Pyongyang, which was erected in 1946 in memory of Red Army soldiers killed liberating the Korean Peninsula from Japanese occupation.

Keeping with that theme, both leaders took their seats at a gala concert, where songs performed all evoked war and defence of the nation.

Russian state media reported the concert included excerpts from wartime songs, including Where the Motherland Begins, We Need One Victory and Katyusha, as well as song by groups who regularly support Mr Putin at political rallies.

Putin's opinion piece

As Mr Putin heads for Vietnam, a newspaper in the country has published an opinion piece he has written.

In the piece, he praised Vietnam for its "balanced" stance on the Ukraine war and applauded the communist-ruled country for supporting "a pragmatic way to solve" the conflict.

He also said Russia and Vietnam shared "similar assessments of the situation in the Asia-Pacific region".

He is due to arrive in Hanoi overnight and plans to meet Vietnamese leaders tomorrow, on the heels of his trip to North Korea.

It will be his first trip to the country since 2017.
