Since the mid 1800’s, the world’s hunting fraternity has known that BC was home to some of the world’s most magnificent big game populations. From mountain-tops to valley bottoms, rivers and lakes to grasslands and lush forests, BC has quality habitat for wildlife in which to thrive. This helps produce quality big game populations throughout the province. In BC guide outfitters are licensed with the exclusive rights to guide non-resident big game hunters in their specific territory. Our Prime Hunting Area and Location

Batnuni Lake Guides & Outfitters operates its Moose and Bear Hunts within a huge area of roughly 2500 square miles of prime Canadian Moose and Black Bear habitat located West of the Rocky Mountains.

Covering long distances, we have over 200 lakes and 3 major rivers, the Blackwater, Euchiniko and Chilako. The area is made up of; timber, logged areas, lakes, creeks and beaver swamps. This provides you with one of BC’s premier moose, bear, timber wolf, cougar and lynx habitat.  We have occasional sightings of mule deer, whitetail deer, and mountain goat, but due to our lower elevation, we do not offer mountain goat hunts. In Canada, grizzly bear hunting is only permitted in the Yukon territory.

Batnuni Lake Accommodations

We have a main camp consisting of two hunter’s cabins one of which can sleep five people, while the other sleeps 4. The cabins provide plenty of room for you and your friends. Hunters are kept comfortable with wood heat and access to hot showers after a hard day adventuring. For the more adventurous hunter, we have remote camps on remote BC lakes and rivers.

Our hunting accommodations camp is situated in a remote location on a gorgeous lake with a massive hunting area to explore. From opening the cabin doors in the morning hunters may be lucky enough to see local residents of the area such as beavers, muskrats, loons, otters, eagles, and bulls cruising during the rut. Famous black water wild trout will be jumping in lake and routinely draw the interest of predators.

In November of 2012, my dad and I met up in Canada for what has been the best hunting experience of my life. This was my first guided hunting trip, so I really didn’t know what to expect. Any expectations that I did have were far exceeded by Whiteswan Lake Outfitters.  My dad and I chose to have a guide each while in Whiteswan Lake which I will always do when using a guide from now on. Dad, 69 years old and I, 36 years old have very different physical abilities, a big factor when hunting in the mountains. Whiteswan Lake Outfitters tailored each of our hunts to our abilities and preferences. Both hunts resulted in a very nice Mule Deer for each of us. My guide, Chris, and hiked for hours to put glass and stalk deer. This in itself made my Mule Deer trophy all the more important to me. My dad’s hunt with Darryl, one of the owners, involved a combination of spotting from the truck and shorter walks to find the deer.  Although our hunting approaches varied, my dad and I thoroughly enjoyed hunting at Whiteswan Lake. I am happy to recommend Whiteswan Lake Outfitters to anyone no matter your age or physical capabilities. In addition to the skilled guides, the food, lodging, organization, hospitality was all five star, and I will be back someday.

CANADIAN MOOSE HUNTING

Northern bc moose.

The Largest Canadian Moose are found in Northern British Columbia. After crossing the Yukon border, they are considered Alaska Yukon Moose. Kawdy Outfitters is located on the Yukon border at the headwaters of the Yukon River drainage. Our moose carry Yukon moose genetics but are geographically considered Canadian Moose. Meaning this area harbours some of the largest Canadian moose found anywhere.

Not only is the trophy quality impressive in northern BC, but the moose population is fantastic. Unlike the Yukon, where moose densities are relatively low, we enjoy high population densities making for an action-packed hunt. In terms of both trophy quality and moose quantity, it’s certainly some of the best moose hunting on earth.

Our moose generally have tall, wide palms. They vary in width from 50″ to 65″ or more. It is important to remember that the width of the moose is actually one of the last things to consider when determining trophy quality, even though the spread is how hunters often classify moose. This is a BIG misconception.

Our BC moose hunts begins with a charter flight to one of our three unforgettable base camps. Here, our moose hunters enjoy warm cabins, a full kitchen that serves up home-cooked meals, a hot shower and attentive staff.

After a hot breakfast, you can expect to leave camp on horseback at daylight with your guide and often a wrangler. Hunting begins as soon as you ride out of camp. Moose hunters can expect to spend a few hours in the saddle each day, but it varies depending on where where a bull is spotted and your guide’s game plan for the day.

We highly recommend combining moose with mountain caribou as you will often see trophy caribou on your moose hunt. If you are successful in the first few days hunting moose (which is quite likely) it’s an excellent opportunity to hunt a second species.

For hunters who prefer not to ride horses or simply want the experience, we also offer moose hunts from lakes where we use boats. For specific availability and details on these hunts, please give us a call or send us a message!

A new world record mountain goat was taken recently in the Northern Coastal Mountains. Trophy billies 10 inches+ are the norm, not the exception.

Trophy black bears are exceptional in this area. The Northern Coastal Mountains of British Columbia have long been known as one of the best trophy bear hunting areas. Our bear hunts are conducted from our main base camp or from a remote cabin located on a fish-filled lake accessible by truck. The base camp offers many of the comforts of home.

Guided Moose Hunts

We have packages for most moose hunters, from affordable truck-accessible camps to remote fly-in wilderness rut hunts. Often hunters combine a moose hunt with a hunt for other big game species prevalent in our area, such as wolf, black bear, mountain goat, mule deer, or wolverine, and may even try some upland bird hunting for grouse.

Rocky Mountain Elk

Our Sawtooth Outfitting territory is an elk hunter’s dream come true!

Elk Hunting is our specialty. Our Sawtooth outfitting territory is located in the Purcell Mountains, which are particularly renowned for heavy, dark antlered Bulls. This area has many remote basins and lush undergrowth, which provides an abundance of food and cover for the big bulls. Our guides are skilled at coaxing these bulls out into the open.

British Columbia is one of the few areas in North America where you can hunt Elk with a rifle during the rut. In 1998, the East Kootenay region was designated a 6 point or better Elk region. This fact, combined with proactive habitat restoration efforts, has resulted in our Elk populations reaching an all-time high, with many mature bulls available. The past several years have been excellent trophy Elk hunting in the East Kootenays, and we expect the next few to be the same or better.

Nonetheless, we take only 6-8 Elk hunters in the hunting territory per week to ensure a healthy population of mature bulls. And with over 350,000 acres in our territories, we have plenty of area to move around in search of your trophy bull. We use horses, ATV or 4X4 vehicles to get close, and then hike to access the back end of isolated river valleys that hold the big mature bulls. Our area has over 30 such valleys (anywhere from 3 to 14 miles long).

Most of our hunters combine their Elk hunt with the pursuit of mule deer, whitetail and wolf which are included (apart from the tags) in the base price of the package.

Ryan and Katie, First and foremost, thank you for a wonderful experience.  Both Steve and I meant it on after the first day when we said the trip was a smashing success even if we never bagged an elk.  And we sure as hell bagged a couple huge elk!!!  Bonus beyond expectations.

You are both a pleasure to be with, and we felt very fortunate to have found you.  As soon as our calendars are clear enough for us to pull the trigger, we’ll be booking again. – WOW!  There are not words adequate to describe how incredible Ryan, Katie and Sawtooth Outfitters are.

My brother and I booked a 2:1 7-day Elk trip.  We were prepared to see some beautiful country, backpack some miles (we worked to get in shape ahead of time), and work hard for a chance at a bull elk.  We had no idea!  The general area, and in particular Sawtooth Outfitters’ exclusive territory, is beautiful beyond words. Just packing out and camping in some of the valleys was worth the price of admission, even if we never saw an elk!  And elk we saw! I don’t believe I’ve worked so hard on any pack trip in my life.  It was incredibly testing, but always enjoyable.  The work was so much of the pleasure!  And, any time we thought we were working hard, we needed only look to Ryan, who was working twice as hard.  Every time we got to the “top”, and there was another ridge or mountain to climb, it was invigorating and inspiring to see the beauty and land get only more incredible.

We saw elk the first day out, numerous mule deer, mountain goats and all kinds of other wildlife. After Ryan called, and we then stalked and bagged a beautiful 6×6 trophy bull elk, we packed it out for a couple of days (lots of very rewarding work).  But, Ryan didn’t stop there. As long as we were interested in putting in the effort, he was right there with us.  Ryan called in another beautiful bull a few days later, and we took a 7×6 beauty as well.   I cannot imagine a better hunt, or a better outfitter.

The camps and lodge are beautiful, yet you don’t ever feel like you’re in a hotel – they’re still rustic, but we had all the amenities we could ever have wanted.  The camping/packing was perfect and very rewarding.   I truly could not have hoped for a better hunt (it would have been amazing if we’d never bagged a bull; it was that great!).  If you get the chance, go get in shape (although there were others successfully hunting that didn’t put the miles or elevation in that we did), and prepare to be amazed.

The most rewarding hunt/work I’ve ever done. Thank you, Ryan, Katie and Shelly.  You’re amazing and we’ll be seeing you again!!

Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia

Guide outfitters are the founders of the tourism industry and an important part of the outdoor heritage of British Columbia. By the late 1800s, the world’s hunting fraternity had learned that British Columbia (BC) harboured one of North America’s most magnificent big-game populations. Local hunters started guiding services to meet the demand for quality big-game hunts.

British Columbia is fortunate to be able to offer 18 of the 30 North American big-game species. In 1961, legislation provided guide outfitters with the exclusive rights to guide non-resident big game hunters in a specific area (BC resident hunters are not required to use a guide). This exclusivity of the guide outfitter certificate became the foundation of the guide outfitting industry in British Columbia.

More than 5,000 hunters come to BC each year and spend more, per day, per capita, than any other visitor to our province.

Our guide outfitters enjoy showcasing “Super, Natural British Columbia” to their clients. The Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia is a non-profit society that was established in 1966 to represent the guide outfitting industry and we are proud to be the voice of the outfitting family here in BC.

The country we hunt is beautiful, very huntable, with many different species of game. Our stone sheep hunts are classic, extreme mountain adventures. Our moose hunts can be lake hunts, river hunts or alpine hunts. They can be comfortable or demanding, depending on the hunter’s preference. Mountain caribou hunts are alpine hunts and can be more or less demanding as desired. Our mountain goat hunts are high-adventure hunts that require hunters to be in medium to good shape.

The world’s hunting fraternity has known that BC was home to some of the world’s most magnificent big game populations. From mountain-tops to valley bottoms, rivers and lakes to grasslands and lush forests. Our guides are licensed with the exclusive rights to guide non-resident big game hunters in their our territory. We have immense knowledge of the wildlife populations where we guide.

British Columbia Hunting Trips

B.C. hunting has been referred to as “the best place on earth” to fulfill your hunting dreams. And it’s no wonder that British Columbia carries this reputation. With some of the largest and most plentiful hunting opportunities for mule deer, white tail deer, elk, moose, cougar, bobcat, lynx and turkey. Our hunting success rates and trophy animals set the standard for B.C. hunting!

This area is unique in that it produces trophy-class animals of all five species with little travel between hunting areas. That means it’s the ideal location for a trophy combo hunt. On a 10-day hunt, taking two species is very possible.

The remote nature of our hunting area means there is little outside hunting pressure. And the sheer size allows us to manage it in ways that are unthinkable anywhere else. When you hunt a specific hunting area, there’s a chance an animal hasnt been harvested there in years. We take far fewer hunters than this area can handle. Because of that, our clients experience an unrivaled density of game and trophy quality. Our goal is to leave this area better than we found it.

Comfortable Base Camps are located throughout the area, strategically located to hunt the surrounding areas. The main base camp of Nadina Outfitters is a comfortable lodge setting offering a small number of sleeping rooms, hot showers, electricity, land-line phone, unlimited WIFI, and of course plenty of family-style meals. Other camps consist of cabins or wooden floor wall tents, and either style offers a warm and comfortable place to sleep and eat after your hunt.

Spike Camps are sometimes used throughout the area when suitable, especially when goat hunting, offering flexibility to move in search of your game and cover as much area as possible.
